1930 Ford Highboy Coupe
There’s always lots of detail work with any build and this ’30 Ford highboy coupe is no exception. Look closely and you will find Craftworks Fabrication handmade steel motor mounts. The license plate and valve covers were painted by Jeremy Seanor of Luckystrike Designs. He also painted all the accompanying engine and tranny parts. The powdercoat was handled by Pittsburgh Powder Coat while the chrome plating was conducted by Jon Wright’s Custom Chrome Plating.
The chassis is comprised of a Roadster Shop custom frame that was stepped, stretched, and features contoured ’32 Ford-style framerails. It was also then boxed, capped, and has hole punch flared front framehorns. From here the frame is outfitted with a Super Bell 4-inch drop, drilled and plated I-beam axle, low-profile monoleaf spring with Ridetech tubular shocks paired to custom-made drilled billet radius rods from Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop. Steering falls to the Flaming River box and a LimeWorks Hot Rod column topped with a four-spoke Billet Specialties Sprint Car–style leather-wrapped wheel. In back there’s a Currie 9-inch rearend outfitted with 3.70 gears, 31-spline axles, QA1 coilovers, a Pete & Jakes Panhard bar, and a parallel four-link setup. Braking is a combination of disc/drum front to rear. The forward braking dark gray–painted Wilwood Dynalite calipers are neatly hidden behind the Pete & Jakes finned backing plates. While in back the 9-inch is outfitted with 11-inch brakes, this time hidden beneath the SO-CAL Speed Shop finned drums all the while the chassis rides on a full set of 16-inch Dayton wire wheels wrapped with Coker/Excelsior rubber measuring 5.50R16 in front and 7.00R18 in the back.
All hot rods have something fun settled between the ’rails and beneath the hood (well if they have a hood). In the case of our ’30 Ford highboy coupe it sure appears to be a vintage Ford Y-block but after more than a cursory look we begin to see the telltale signs that there’s something more. Indeed, while it may look like a Ford it truly is a 376-inch LSX iron block, with aluminum heads and ARP studs, plus adapter-equipped small-block Ford (Windsor) valve covers all from Don Hardy Race Cars and then assembled by Talik and Marc Mullin. The intake is an Edelbrock LS dual quad with a pair of Thunder AVS EnduraShine carbs dressed in OTB air cleaners. Delivering the gas from the Tanks stainless reservoir is an Earl’s Performance billet fuel pump. More engine accessories include an MSD 6AL box to go along with the MSD billet Ford small-block distributor that functions through a timing cover adapter from Chevrolet Performance all the while using an MSD coil and Lokar vintage plug wires. Powermaster also supplied the alternator and starter, the battery is an XS Power AGM, and a Wegner Motorsports water pump is used as well as a Wegner front accessory drive unit. This 500-plus hp V-8 utilizes custom headers made at Craftworks Fabrication based on Ultimate Headers LS header flanges. The pseudo-Ford small-block is backed up to a TCI StreetFighter 700-R4 with a 2,800-stall speed converter operated by a Lokar shifter. The trans cooler comes by way of Derale Performance and moves the power through a 3-inch-diameter custom-made driveshaft.

July 13th | Alaska | Yes, the #AirkewldArmy is even in Alaska! In a matter of weeks, the PRO's received orders from the Hansmeyer brothers, both in Alaska, which is not a common thing, but doing business in AK has happened in the last 21 years. J has a 1962 Beetle on which we did a Stage 1 PRObuilt Beam and GEN 1 BAD Series Brakes. P has a 1968 Squareback, the vehicle we are featuring here today; we did a Stage 1 PRObuilt Beam along with GEN 2 BAD Series Brakes front and rear. P has a 1967 Beetle. We did a Stage 1 PRObuilt Beam, PRObuilt Freeway Flyer Transaxle, and GEN 2 BAD Series Brakes, front and rear on. The loyalty that this family has for the PRO's is unrivaled. Soon, I will make it to Alaska to break bread and drink some whiskey with my friends, the #AirkewldArmy. P's 1968 Squareback is super clean. So clean that we are featuring it on our blog. P is running Fuchs, front, and rear that come in different offsets, so the fit was critical with this one. 15x4.5's upfront and 15x6s in the rear. The Stage 1 PRObuilt Beam was equipped with Sport Shocks and dropped spindles along with GEN 2 BAD Series Brakes in Porsche pattern, Wilwood 2 piston Red calipers up front, and the Rear Disc Brake Kit featured match painted brake calipers for the best functionality. Stage 1 PRObuilt Beam - https://www.airkewld.com/Stage-1-PRObuilt-Adjustable-Beam-Complete-2206-p/2206.htm $2880 GEN 2 BAD Series Front Brakes - https://www.airkewld.com/Classic-VW-Front-Disc-Brake-Kit-4153G2-p/4153g2.htm $1457.90 GEN 2 BAD Series Rear Brakes - https://www.airkewld.com/Gen-1-Classic-VW-Type-3-Rear-Disc-Conversion-p/4750.htm $1673.92 Shipping was even FREE to Alaska to an R&L Terminal out there. Quality Brake Calipers: Essential Components for Optimal Vehicle Performance
Tumblr media
When it comes to vehicle safety and performance, Brake fitting kits play a crucial role that is often overlooked by the average driver. These components are vital for effective braking, ensuring that your vehicle can stop promptly and safely. Understanding the importance of quality brake calipers and the benefits they offer can significantly enhance your driving experience and safety.
What Are Brake Calipers?
Brake calipers are a part of the disc brake system found in most modern vehicles. They house the brake pads and pistons, which together create the friction needed to slow down or stop the vehicle. When you press the brake pedal, hydraulic fluid from the master cylinder is sent to the calipers, pushing the pistons against the brake pads. This action clamps the pads onto the brake disc (rotor), generating the necessary friction to decelerate the vehicle.
Importance of Quality Brake Calipers
Safety and Reliability: Quality brake calipers are essential for reliable braking performance. Inferior calipers may not apply even pressure to the brake pads, leading to uneven wear and compromised braking efficiency. High-quality calipers ensure that your vehicle stops as intended, reducing the risk of accidents.
Durability and Longevity: Investing in quality brake calipers means choosing components made from durable materials like high-grade steel or aluminum alloys. These materials resist corrosion and wear better than cheaper alternatives, ensuring that the calipers last longer and perform consistently over time.
Heat Dissipation: Braking generates a significant amount of heat, which needs to be effectively managed to prevent brake fade and maintain performance. Quality calipers are designed with superior heat dissipation properties, often featuring vented or slotted designs that enhance airflow and cooling.
Precision and Performance: Precision engineering is a hallmark of quality brake calipers. They are designed to provide consistent pressure across the brake pads, leading to smoother and more predictable braking. This precision is particularly important in high-performance and racing applications where braking performance is critical.
Maintenance and Ease of Installation: Quality calipers often come with features that make maintenance easier, such as dust boots to protect pistons and guide pins from debris. They are also typically easier to install, often designed to fit seamlessly with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications.
Choosing the Right Brake Calipers
When selecting brake calipers, consider factors such as your driving habits, vehicle type, and the conditions you typically drive in. For everyday driving, high-quality OEM replacements are usually sufficient. However, for high-performance or heavy-duty applications, you might want to consider aftermarket options that offer enhanced features like multi-piston designs or lightweight materials.
Popular Brands
Some reputable brands known for producing quality brake calipers include Brembo, Akebono, Bosch, and Wilwood. These manufacturers have a long history of engineering excellence and are trusted by both car manufacturers and enthusiasts alike.
Conclusion
Quality brake calipers are an essential investment for any vehicle owner. They enhance safety, reliability, and performance while also providing better durability and ease of maintenance. By choosing high-quality calipers, you ensure that your vehicle's braking system operates at its best, giving you peace of mind and a superior driving experience. Whether you're upgrading your car's braking system or replacing worn-out parts, prioritizing quality can make a significant difference in your vehicle's overall performance and safety.

Superformance MKIII 427ci 5-Speed $91,000
This Superformance MKIII was ordered new by the seller from Hillbank Motor Corporation of Irvine, California in 2006. Finished in black over black leather, the car is powered by a 427ci side-oiler V8 paired with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. Voss Performance of Fullerton, California installed the powertrain as well as heavy-duty sway bars, and other equipment includes 15″ Halibrand-style wheels, Wilwood disc brakes, ceramic-coated side pipes, dual roll hoops, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. The seller has added approximately 4,500 miles to the car, which has been issued SB100 smog exemption in California. This Shelby Cobra replica is now offered with a soft top, a tonneau cover, a car cover, a hammer, a fire extinguisher, a build sheet, service records, and a clean California title that describes the car as a specially constructed vehicle with no model year.
The car was custom-ordered in black and finished in PPG materials using a two-stage process. Features include dual chrome-finished roll hoops, ceramic-coated side pipes, and a locking hood, trunk, and gas cap. The seller notes stone chips on the lower area of the nose, and the paintwork and exterior trim are shown up close in the photo gallery below.
Polished aluminum 15″ Halibrand-style wheels are mounted with three-ear knockoffs that have been safety wired. They are shod in 255/60 front and 295/50 rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, and each corner is equipped with Wilwood disc brakes. The car also features a coilover suspension, and Voss Performance installed larger heavy-duty sway bars front and rear.
The interior features bucket seats with black leather upholstery and upper harnesses that were added to integrate with the latch-locking lap belts. The glovebox is lockable, and the battery as well as an electrical disconnect switch are located in the trunk.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation that includes a reverse-sweep 180-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, auxiliary gauges, and a Lucas ammeter.
The 427ci side-oiler V8 was initially built by JMS Racing Engines of Monrovia, California and installed by Voss Performance. In 2008 the engine was rebuilt, serviced and tuned by RC Performance of Huntington Beach, California, at which time dynamometer results indicated that the engine produced a peak output of 465 horsepower and 493 lb-ft of torque at the crankshaft. Features include a forged crank, Ross pistons, cast-iron cylinder heads with Shelby American roller rocker arms, an Isky Racing Cams camshaft, a mechanical MSD distributor, a Canton Racing Products oil pan, ceramic-coated headers, and dual-quad Edelbrock 600-cfm carburetors mounted to a Ford Racing mid-rise intake manifold. The seller notes that the oil was changed in preparation for the sale and that the solid-lifter valves should be adjusted in approximately 800 miles.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec TKO-600 five-speed manual transmission. The rear differential features a 3.73:1 final-drive ratio, and additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery.

In two hours we had better brakes on our Chevelle with an aluminum caliper swap - Chuck Hanson @Hemmings
In two hours we had better brakes on our Chevelle with an aluminum caliper swap – Chuck Hanson @Hemmings
Wilwood calipers offer more rigid design, better brake pad distribution After swapping a Chevelle’s factory front discs with aftermarket spindles and 12-inch rotors derived from an early ’90s Camaro with the 1LE option, we benefitted from improved handling and shortened stopping distances. But we felt we were still leaving something on the table, and not taking full advantage of the increased…

My Ultimate Plan | Airkewld | 1957 Beetle on a 1971 Chassis | Patrick
Client's Vision - 57 Beetle on a 71 IRS PAN What kind of wheels do you want to run?:15” Suspension Choice:Static - Set it and forget it Stopping Power: Disc Brakes - Self Adjusting Driving Style:Performance - More controlled, better handling, let's burn some rubber Ideal Engine: Performance - More Power, more torque, I want to have the ability to get out of my own way. Stance: classic rake lower in the front, almost stock height in rear, wide tires front and back on titanio Venus wheels, discs on all 4 corners, daily driver mostly, ideal engine is fuel injection, 1776-2017cc, freeway flyer transmission
Wheel Link - https://vwispwest.com/titanio-venus-15-x-5-5-wheel-r1128/
Tumblr media
PRO's Plan for Patrick - If you go with he 15x5.5 wheel options they will come with a +15 or 3.84" backspacing up front, you would need a 5" Ultimate or PRObuilt Beam with shock towers for a performance build or a 6" shockless for a cruiser build. 165-60-15 tires up front. This is due to the Chassis swap you have and that makes the suspension platform 2" wider than your original 57 was. I think you would need to go with the same wheels in the rear but with an obviously taller wider tire. 205-65-15 tires in the rear.
As it would ship to the client for FREE in the lower 48 states, it would come with the following:
Stage 1 PRObuilt Beam complete assembled with sport shocks, drop spindles that is narrowed to spec to fit the wheels and the stance the client is looking for and GEN 2 BAD Series Brakes are installed in a Wide 5x205mm bolt pattern and outfitted with 4 piston grey Wilwood calipers. This will give him the stopping power he wants, the stance he is after and ability to give him the best user experience possible. In the rear, we went with an eBrake style NON Wilwood caliper and the Wide 5 GEN 2 IRS BAD Series Brakes couple with adjusting the torsion's to fine tune his ride height and installing a set of rear shocks and Stainless Steel hardware.

Continental Mark II
This Continental Mark II is a tastefully built custom, incorporating a 642 hp Robert Pond Motorsports aluminum 482 cu. in. V8, fully independent suspension on all four corners, four wheel Wilwood disc brakes, and rack and pinion steering.
The car is the work of brothers Calvin and Leon Moore from Nashville. A suitable car was sourced and bought and the restoration began, it was decided early on to not do a concours restoration but rather a rebuild to make the car much faster, better handling, and better at braking too. The car you see here is a comprehensively rebuilt Mark II with a completely reworked chassis developed to accommodate a Kugel Komponents 4.11:1 independent rear suspension system – a notable improvement over the live axle rear of the original car.
A new A-arm suspension system was fabricated for the front of the car, Wilwood disc brakes were fitted on each corner, and rack-and-pinion steering was installed. The original body was in good condition but just to be sure, the Moore brothers had it chemically stripped, all the joints were releaded, it was then electro-plated before being sent to paint where it received multiple coats of a DuPont black. Under the hood you’ll find a Robert Pond Motorsports 427 V8 that’s been bored and stroked to 483 cu. in. – The team at Robert Pond cast their own blocks from lightweight aluminum alloy. The engine was built up with an SCAT crank and rods, a COMP Cams camshaft, CP pistons, an Edelbrock water pump and aluminum performance heads, with an MSD ignition and a bespoke pair of headers. The engine inhales through a Dynatek classic fuel injection system with four Weber IDA-style throttle bodies.
The completed car is a fast machine despite its 4,800 lb kerb weight thanks in no small part to that dyno-tested 642 hp V8
