I am rereading "Persuasion," and why is William Elliot the deplorable bad guy?

It kinda felt like he was reintroduced as a plot device to Anne-Wentworth's relationship, and when his role was completed by making Wentworth jealous enough to do something, William was shown to have this new dark side to his character all of a sudden that would excuse his hasty departure from the scene so the main characters could get married and have their happily ever after.

I just did a recent re-watch of the 1995 version of "PERSUASION". There was something in this film that I found baffling.

In the movie, Mr. William Elliot, who is the main heroine's cousin and heir presumptive to her father, Sir Walter Elliot, had earlier married a wealthy woman from a lower class. She eventually died, leaving Mr. Elliot a wealthy man. But despite his wealth, Mr. Elliot attempted to reconnect with the family in order to ensure that Sir Walter would never remarry and produce an heir, which would prevent Mr. Elliot from inheriting Sir Walter's baronetcy and estate.

But in the 1995 version of "PERSUASION", Mr. Elliot had spent all of his late wife's money, making him barely penniless again. I never understood why screenwriter Nick Dear had allowed Mr. Elliot to lose his wealth. This doesn't make sense to me. This means Mr. Elliot would be forced to choose between finding another wealthy wife or marrying one of his less affluent Elliot cousins in order to prevent Sir Walter of ever remarrying. Dear had Mr. Elliot pursuing his cousin Anne Elliot anyway. But what would have happened if he had married Anne and spent her dowry? Then what? Especially since the very healthy Sir Walter would have lived a good number of years down the road. Did Nick Dear consider the ramifications of this change?

Elliot - He’d be this specific model of deer (reindeer?)! I couldn’t get the idea of him being a deer out of my head the moment I realized he looked like a deer in the headlights (BLINK ELLIOT BLINK!!!), but I wasn’t vibing with any of the regular deer and thats when I discovered these models! Also I couldn’t find the specific number because ofc I couldn’t 💀

Katherine - Maltese #79! At least I think its 79, this dog and another spaniel come up with the #79??? Anyways, she’d be this cutie!

Ben - So he’d either be a regular hedgehog…or this silly one with hair. Get it? Cause of his ponytail?

Kendo - Husky #174! He is so husky to me…

Emma - Puppy #1013! And her mama would be husky #1012 💖

Carlos - Sheepdog #1077! Too perfect! And YES, he needs the flower in his hair!!!!! I have this one 🤭

Tyrell - Jaguar #1419! Honestly, it’s another case of this specific LPS just reminds me of him! Plus, I was thinking of how there’s so many videos of jaguars lounging followed by them being expert hunters and Tyrell is a relaxed guy, but is obviously greatly skilled!

Nikolai - He was so hard to find an lps for. Looking through the different models and designs, but I landed on cat #9 (the hair sorta matches his) or Dane #184 (cause Nikolai’s second name is “The White Wolf” And I wasn’t too pleased with assigning him a cat)

Mikhail - Mikhail was also hard to choose for. Maybe a German Shepard or a Boxer?? But ofc white/grey

wants i want for law and order: svu (season 26)

a case that makes olivia face the William lewis trauma. it will make her spiral. the suspect will oddly resemble him. do i like seeing olivia in pain? no. trauma is nothing to be entertained by but i like when we see these emotions and the general effects on the mental health.

rollins being brought back, even if it's in a role like dr. wong - i feel that it would suit her, especially with her psychology knowledge

bring back henry mescner. i absolutely want to see the storyline continue.

bring back some oldies - both good and bad characters - let barba and liv reconcilate and still be friends. they deserve it. bring back some of scary POS like erik weber (let's see how this dude is handling his jail sentence. maybe one of the cases has a hit on one of the hard drives he turned in), dale stuckey (maybe a silly episode where he attempts to escape prison and sees olivia again because that would be awkward and hilarious), and maybe - let's explore the possibility of Richard Wheatley being alive because I'm 95% sure he was involved in crimes against women - his treatment towards angela speaks volumes! also, novak and cabot return when???
