Courtney Act was AFL heartthrob Bailey Smith for Halloween

Courtney Act was AFL heartthrob Bailey Smith for Halloween
For Halloween, Courtney Act went out dressed as the “only AFL player gay men know” – Geelong heartthrob Bailey Smith.
The Aussie drag superstar is back in her hometown of Brisbane to celebrate the city’s LGBTQIA+ arts and culture Melt Festival, on now.
In new Instagram posts this morning, Courtney swapped the frock for the footy as she transformed into Bailey and the resemblance is hilariously uncanny.
“Can’t kick a goal, but I can serve a look,” Courtney wrote.
“Career pivot alert! No, not to AFL—I’m a drag king now and I’m bringing Bailey Smith realness!”

The 23-year-old AFL heartthrob recently moved clubs to the Geelong Cats, if that means anything to you.
As Courtney Act explained, “If you’re not familiar with @bazlenka – you’re welcome.
“He’s every gay man’s favourite AFL player (he’s also the only AFL player gay men know).”
In a separate Instagram video, set to her own song Heteroflexible, Courtney flips her blonde mullet and adjusts her bulge.

Courtney to lead Brisbane’s inaugural River Pride Parade
On Friday, Courtney Act climbed to the top of Story Bridge for a nude photoshoot to celebrate the Melt festival.
Melt Festival is the citywide celebration of LGBTQIA+ artists and allies. The 2024 festival runs for three weeks from October 23 to November 10 with a huge program.
Courtney Act is ambassador for the festival and will lead Melt’s inaugural River Pride Parade, along the Brisbane River, next month.
Behind her will be a flotilla of vessels celebrating queer pride as they make their way from William Jolly Bridge to the Brisbane Powerhouse.
The Parade, on Saturday, November 9, will be one of the last events as part of Melt.
“It’s so glorious to be the ambassador of the Melt Festival in my hometown of Brisbane,” Courtney Act said on Friday.
“Who would have thunk when I was knee-high to a grasshopper growing up in the northern suburbs that one day I would get to come back and be a part of an amazing global arts festival, and a queer one at that?
“I mean, growing up as a young person in Brisbane, I didn’t really see anything queer… It’s so amazing to have a festival like Melt.”

The William Jolly Bridge is a heritage-listed road bridge over the Brisbane River between North Quay in Brisbane CBD and Grey Street in South Brisbane, within City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by A E Harding Frew and built from 1928 to 1932 by M R Hornibrook Ltd.
The style of the bridge’s design is Art Deco, which was popular at the time. Manuel R. Hornibrook’s company built the bridge that consists of two piers that were built in the river and two pylons on the river banks, which support three graceful arches.[2] The rainbow arch type, as it was described, was claimed to be the first of its type in Australia
The William Jolly Bridge was constructed between 1928 and 1932 following the formation of Greater Brisbane in 1925, and was one of the first major capital works of the new Brisbane City Council and bears the name of its first Mayor, William Jolly.
Seventy-seven years ago today, the art deco styled Grey Street Bridge was officially opened by the Governor of Queensland, Sir John Goodwin, finally connecting Grey St, South Brisbane to Roma St at North Quay. The bridge was designed by local engineer AE Harding Frew and built by Brisbane construction firms MR Hornibrook and Evans Deakin, and the project provided much needed work during the Great Depression.

VIDEO: RAAF discloses 360o view of the F/A-18F jet flying in the middle of buildings during the Riverfire test
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 09/18/2022 - 14:52in Air Shows, Military
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) released remarkable images ?? 360-degree filmed from the cockpit of an F/A-18F Super Hornet flying through the Brisbane shopping center.
Filmed during a rehearsal for the annual Riverfire show two weeks ago, the filming takes viewers through the city at high speed, passing through office towers and along the Brisbane River.
In the video, viewers can click to experience the 4K flight from all sides, as if they were flying in the Super Hornet, while the jet crosses vertically along the river and over the suburbs.
youtube
The low-level flight of the fighters is a popular feature of the Riverfire festival every year before the fireworks, with jets and helicopters making several quick passages along the Brisbane River between South Bank and the CBD.
Starting well above the CBD, the Super Hornet quickly descends to the river, passing through William Jolly Bridge and Roma Street Parklands and circulating back to the city.
Flying low over the river again, the jet circulates around Gabba and returns several times over the suburbs before the rehearsal ends.
Super Hornet's flight attendant, Matthew, whose last name cannot be used for safety reasons, said before Riverfire that pilots trained for weeks only for the single flyby.
It was the first time that the Super Hornets participated in Riverfire in three years, after COVID blockades canceled the 2020 Riverfire festival.
In 2021, a C-17A Globemaster III flew over the middle of the buildings to celebrate the 100th year of the RAAF.
The Royal Australian Air Force has 24 F/A-18F Super Hornets fighters, all based at the Amberley RAAF Base, west of Ipswich.

Riverhills Brisbane belongs to the Centenary suburb. It is an excellent community because of the warm and welcoming environment. It is very relaxing with good vibes from the locals who are very friendly and easy-going. They are also very open-minded, so it’s not hard to make friends with them. Riverhills is one of the growing places in Brisbane, it's diverse, colourful, and super awesome. It also has an excellent value for a couple who are starting a family. The price of a home is lower than the median value of housing in Australia. After my husband bought our house in Riverhills, we moved. From five years ago, the house cost had increased, but still cheaper than in other cities.

Greater Brisbane’s 260 suburbs ranked for liveability
Why people choose one suburb over another is highly subjective: access to education, public transport, the coast and employment are often big factors. Across 17 indicators, 260 Greater Brisbane suburbs were ranked for the inaugural Domain Liveable Brisbane study, which has given us this list. Read more here.
I read from domain.com.au that Greater Brisbane’s 260 suburbs ranked for liveability. Why people choose a specific city over others is very subjective. The reasons behind include public transport, access to education, employment, and many others. There are 17 indicators, 260 suburbs in Brisbane ranked for the inaugural Domain Liveable Brisbane study. No. 1 is Alderley, followed by Wilston, then Ascot, Paddington, and Newmarket are the top five. If I were to buy another property, I would probably buy from one of these Brisbane’s suburbs. I would prefer Alderley because it ranks first. I like this leafy suburb which is just about 7 km away from Brisbane’s CBD.
South Bank Parklands in Brisbane
South Bank Parklands in Brisbane is a premier lifestyles and cultural destination. This is where you can get world-class entertainment and many leisure facilities. It is enormous at 17 hectares in the riverfront. This park features walking tracks, swimming facilities, picnic areas, and many more. There are plenty of events in the Parkland year-round. I like the world-class eateries you can choose from. It’s a great feeling to enjoy eating while watching the stunning views of the river. There are hundreds of delightful events in a year to enjoy, be entertained, relax and unwind. South Bank Parklands is in my list to go to when things get back to normal after this coronavirus pandemic.

Potential Artists to Commission
A key part of this project is sourcing talented Indigenous Artists to pay to transform the walls of the silo, both inside and out, into a magical space of creativity and beauty for visitors.
After conducting some research, I found interest in two young Indigenous artists from Brisbane, Jenna Lee and Rachael Sarra. Rachael's work was recently projected onto the William Jolly Bridge and is on Brisbane City Council Buses, celebrating NAIDOC week (Crossen, 2019). Jenna is another emerging Indigenous artist who has recently won awards at the National Indigenous Art Awards.

On Sunday (October 27), US artist Spencer Tunick will close the Story Bridge and thousands are expected to pose naked as part of his new RISING TIDE art installation.
Spencer, who is based in New York, is known for organising large-scale nude shoots often involving thousands of volunteers at a time.

Research notes: Marine life in Queensland
As part of our idea to represent marine life in Brisbane and Queensland as a fun, and engaging subject matter, I have collected some brief information on marine life around Brisbane and Queensland, that could potentially be implemented as part of our exhibit.
Queensland is Australia’s most biodiverse state, with more species of marine animals and marine habitats than any other in Australia. With habitats ranging from islands, bays, rocky shores, seagrass beds, muddy and shelly bottoms, estuaries, mangroves and other ecosystems – each with their own special marine faunas adapted to living in these particular habitats ("Queensland marine habitats", 2019).
The exhibit will aim to include marine life within the Brisbane River and expanding out to the Great Barrier Reef, all of which support a vast array of life forms.
Species native to the Brisbane River
Queensland Lungfish
The Queensland Lungfish is one of only six extant species of lungfish in the world. Native to Mary and Burnett Rivers, these fish prefer deep, slow-flowing waterholes in freshwater streams with dense banks of aquatic plants. Over time, the species have been translocated to other rivers and lakes of southern Queensland, between the Coomera and North Pine Rivers (Queensland Museum, 2019).
Bull Sharks
Bull Sharks are diadromous creatures, meaning they can easily habit both salt and fresh-water. Bull Sharks are the most common marine animals present in the river. Records of Bull Sharks in the Brisbane River can be traced to as far back as the pre-colonial period. Female sharks are most abundant during the late summer months for breeding, with an estimated number of (Watson, 2016).
Rakali (water rats)
Rakali water rats are widespread throughout water habitats in Australia, varying from fresh slow-moving streams, brackish inland lakes and creeks to wetlands, rivers, estuaries and beaches on coastlines. They are found in all states and territories and have been sighted before in areas of the Brisbane River. The nearby area facing the William Jolly Bridge called Kurilpa is named after the Indigenous word for 'place of the Kuril' (Qagoma, n.d).

Story Bridge Brisbane
Brisbane and the Brisbane River is divided by Bridges. At one end is the Story Bridge, with Victoria Bridge in the middle and The William Jolly bridge at the other end. This is basically the city of Brisbane and you can walk across one bridge, then along Southbank, walk back over another bridge and return to where you started from. Its a great way to see Brisbane, by…
