Maybe I gave up on Oregon Pinkt Noir too soon many years ago. I bought this 2018 @chehalemwines on impulse when it was on sale for $19 vs the more usual $30 and I really enjoy it. Black cherry, earthy raspberry and licorice on the nose. Leads to cherry, plum and black tea on the palate. Really good length on the finish. Had the pleasure of tasting @libertinewines today and I am excited to add his wines to our list! All balanced and inventive. AND exceeds biodynamic standards (which y’all know I totally love). His Dolcetto Rosé (from Willamette Valley Grapes! 😱🤗) was beautiful and full bodied. His “Acid Freak” Dolcetto/Riesling Rosé was pretty, fun and light. (Also, how freaking awesome is that label??!) The Rieslings were both dry, flavorful and out of the ordinary. The way he makes his wines is spectacularly interesting. Sign me up! When was the last time you had a completely surprising Rosé? Dominus dominated the red wine lineup last night! . The 1990 Dominus was simply stunning! Just an amazing example of classic Napa Cabernet. It drank like a high-end Left-Bank Bordeaux from an outstanding vintage. Beguiling aromas of black and red currant, cedar, forest floor, and tobacco with layered, soft tannins. Such a treat to drink these old-school Napa Cabs. Swipe left to see the resilient cork! . Inspired by the 90, someone opened an 86 Dominus. Sadly, this lacked the magic of the 90. The fruit had faded, which made the tannins seem too prominent. Still a nice wine though. . We also tried a very special Oregon Pinot - the 1986 Eyrie Secret Cellar Selection Barrel Reserve Pinot Noir! Made in minuscule quantities only in exceptional vintages, this Pinot Noir was aged in barrels for 2 to 3 years - an incredibly long time for Pinot. To my surprise, this wine was still drinking very well! I would have guessed Burgundy if I blinded it. A beautiful wine and I really like the label as well! . 2015 Sharecroppers Pinot Noir _________ My rating: 88 _________ My price: Dad brought to dinner, but said it was around $11. _________ Great QPR for what it is. 1999 Pinot Noir from Oregon? I’m a huge fan of Jerry Sass’s wines but I was skeptical that this wine would hold up 21 years later. I’ve had a lot of older wine this year that has conditioned me to be disappointed. This wine blew me away. First off, the color: not even a bit of brown on the edges. The same beautiful Pinot colors you would expect from a current vintage. On the nose - no oxidation aroma. Just fruit and spice. On the palate - a very smooth, rich wine. It opened up nicely over a couple of hours and made a perfect pairing for bbq burgers.
