just heard about Wild Manes a few days ago, might check it out.... it looks really cute and i absolutely love the character designs!! the art style and cute girly aesthetic reminds me so much of MLP G3 and i like that they're short and sweet little stories that don't try to cram as much content into them as they can, especially in the age of kid's content trying to be as wacky as humanly possible to hold kid's attentions for the longest. i especially like Bailey, Cherie, Candi and Pearla's designs, they're really pretty :D

Happy Escapril! I hope everyone’s had a good weekend so far. I’m a bit late…as I took a break yesterday. I’m dropping another poem this month with @adventurerswritingguild’s 8th Escapril prompt, “What’s the truth?, combined with the 7th Shy Prompt, “domestication vs rewilding!”

I am incredibly late on this combo prompt and have been trying to slow down so I don’t burn myself out again; however, I started to write a completely different poem but ended up writing the combo one I didn’t complete initially!

In the end, I hope you enjoy this unrestricted ride of my thoughts!

I will do a spoken poetry video at some point, and update this post with the link. Maybe a graphic for it.

11:46 AM Update

Good Morning! I wrote it late last night, and I admit I was muddled when I wrote it so it may not flow as well or portray things how I intended. There are a few references within this one. But it’s basically me writing a letter to break free to be unrestrainable due to my power and agency as many often are. Signified through wearing my natural hair out as my mane.

A reference to a quote in the Indiana Jones films; there’s one where he’s lecturing in a class and he says, “Archeology is the search for fact, not truth. If it’s truth you’re interested in, Dr. Tyree’s Philosophy class is right down the hall.” Flip that quote to the opposite perspective, Dr. Tyree saying, “If you’re seeking Fact, Mr. Jones’s class is up the hall.”

Idunn Apples I was referencing from God of War, without the specifics of the myth associated with them.

Honestly, I should have waited till I started G5 Revisits...

So Wild Manes is a MLP competitor created by JAKKS Pacific. I recognize them for being WWE’s Toy Distributor during the Attitude Era. They got licenses with Nintendo, Sonic and Disney but the Wild Manes, as far as I know, is their effort to create a unique toy. Unique in a sense it's not based on an existing license. So as a fan of Competitive Lego Bricks, can I enjoy this competitive Pony Show?

Off the bat, the background gives me Tell Your Tale Vibes. Like the background could remind me of Maretime Bay if I saw this screenshot before the show. It begins with the Mane Four chasing a pony named Cherie. Then Cocoa decides to break the 4th wall to do the “So, I bet you’re wondering what’s going on” trope so the majority of the episode is a flashback to how this all started.

In Sunny’s Smoothie Stand, I mean Cocoa’s Cafe Cart, she overhears Cherie talking about packing up, changing scenery, and waiting for this. Cocoa immediately thinks she’s moving away when obviously it's not that. Cocoa asks if she thinks she’s jumping to conclusions and decides she’s not. Cocoa then begins to tell the other main characters.

So according to the trailer there are 4 main characters and the Toy Line has five. Yet for the life of me I don’t know who this blonde/purple maned pony is. Captions says Finley but I’m pretty sure she said Filly. Like this is the first episode. They should be focusing on the main characters but the Cheri who is in the title card, in the trailers, and is the focus of this episode barely shows up and Flamingo Pony has more dialogue.

We also get introduced to Bailey, the generic sports pony. Though to be fair so far her gimmick is that she is a surfer. And Candi, who seems to be an Inluencer in a way people feared Pipp Petals would be. After spreading the rumor, the four go to Cheri and try to convince her to not move. But of course she’s not moving. She got a big order and it is difficult so the others help with her packing.

Overall, not a strong first impression. Like I think they only mentioned 3 names in the short and the end credits don’t have a list of who voices who, so the Mysterious Fluttershy Lite is an unknown entity who gets a lot of screen time for someone with no introduction. Not even the trailer says her name. Consider this a bonus One Shot because I don’t think I’ll be following this.

Day 2 of Shay Appreciation Week: Ships

The sight never truly got old. The perfect mess of intertwined wild brunette hair, dreadlocks, and shining golden curls. The low lights and long forgotten candles with curled wicks, burned down to wax laden stubs cast her lovers in amber. She wasn’t usually the last one to return home so to Shay this sight was a special treat; made even more so by the fact that it was only 7:30 on a Saturday evening. She chuckled as she imagined the fervent protests she’d get, “We weren’t sleeping! We were simply...resting our eyes.” She decided to wait a little while for that conversation and set about making the dinner they’d undoubtedly forgotten about. Over sizzling onions she heard footsteps; too light to be Cosima’s and with the slightest hint of a limp that eliminated Delphine from the options. Shay bit her lip to hide her grin at the feeling of Sarah pressed against her, chin resting on her shoulder. It still felt like a victory to have the woman be so easily physically affectionate with her.

Sarah had been an… adjustment. The woman had come in like a bristling cat, her sole focus on Cosima and her illness with little tolerance for anything else. What Sarah hadn’t realized was as a little girl Shay had spent ages, knees sore from the contact with concrete, coaxing stray cats out from underneath houses. Sure enough, Shay wormed her way into Sarah’s heart.

“Whatcha making?” Sarah murmured into her hair.

“Spaghetti bolognese. How’s your leg?” Shay was never one for subtlety.  Sarah muttered something about ‘bloody psychic healer shit’ and Shay chuckled.

“I just heard you favoring your left leg.” Sarah nuzzled her neck.

“I’s fine. Cosima fell asleep on it an’ I didn’t have the heart to move her.” Shay pressed a kiss to her cheek.

“Sarah Manning going soft?” Sarah only mumbled a ���Piss off’ in response.

“I’ll work on it later. Now can you grab me the pepper?” Sarah did so dutifully and the creak of floorboards gave away Delphine’s usually silent entrance. The tall woman came in rubbing at her eyes, curls tangled in a way that made Shay’s fingers itch to run through them.

“Allo mes cheries.” Delphine greeted, giving them each a peck on the lips. She then proceeded to drape herself over the two of them, a hand brushing through Sarah’s mane while she peppered Shay’s neck in little kisses. Shay exchanged a grin with Sarah- drowsy Delphine was the best Delphine. It had only taken a month for them to discover that once the normally reserved French woman reached a certain degree of tiredness she melted into a pliant full-on octopus cuddler. They’d tease her about the desperation in which she attaches herself to them if they weren’t so scared that she’d stop.

Delphine was much like Sarah in the way she came to them overwhelmed by the way her heartbeats had transformed into a single thumping word rattling in her skull; cure, cure, cure. She kept herself detached in a way that made her appear aloof when she was in fact the very opposite. Their first kiss reflected the first time Shay got Delphine to talk about science; a tentativeness that devolved into an outpour of passion.

Sarah and Delphine seemed like a volatile match but the truth was that Delphine needed the challenge Sarah presented in her mess. Delphine was used to strict routine and a ‘perfect’ image and Sarah contrasted all this with her wild hair, lipstick smudging kisses, a hardheadedness that outmatched her own, and the way she loved fiercely and openly with every fibre of her being. Sarah needed the vice versa from Delphine: routine, caution, reservedness. And to watch them now, all wrapped up in each other, made all sorts of warm and fuzzy feeling rise in Shay’s chest.

“You all abandoned me,” a voice croaked, startling them all. Cosima’s look of irritation was significantly lessened in its severity by the upwards quirk of her lips.

“Oh mon petit chiot.” Delphine cooed, releasing Sarah to greet Cosima with a kiss. Once they broke apart Sarah was next.

“Hey lion.” Cosima purred, capturing Sarah’s smirking lips with her own. Then Shay felt arms around her waist.

“Dolphin, you want a kiss too?” Cosima teased, craning to meet Shay’s eyes as she worked over the stove.

“Wait a second, when did I become dolphine?” Shay asked, bewildered.

“About five seconds ago.” Cosima responded and then proceeded to deliver the kiss. Delphine giggled and Sarah rolled her eyes.

Cosima was essentially the glue that held them all together. It was the amount of love in her heart that brought them into this. Their mutual love for Cosima morphed into their love for each other. With sharp memories of bloodstained sheets and long nights spent listening to each rasping breath, her lovers struggled to let go of the role of caregiver. That’s why when Cosima practically bounded into the other room with a shout about how music was a necessity for moments like this, all three of them had to bite their tongues to keep from calling out, “Be careful.”

There was not much more talking after that when Cosima returned with her speaker and lead them all into an impromptu dance party- something that Shay had learned was a clone club tradition. With Cosima twisting and flowing in time with the beat, spinning Delphine, an awkward dancer given that she rarely knew what to do with lanky limbs, who threw her head back and laughed as Sarah began to playfully grind on her, hair flying, and Shay belting out ABBA’s lyrics into a wooden spoon, she felt that this moment encompassed every definition of love.
