You hear it all the time in sports talk, “defense wins championships.” And that’s the exact mentality that the Wilcox varsity volleyball team will have if it is to improve upon last season’s .500 record in league play. A year ago, the team was coming off a deep run into the CCS playoffs, where it lost double-digit seniors to graduation. This year, the team will have lost only four seniors from last season, but those four were a core four. Starting setter Mia Perez-Smith, outside hitters Bianca Burke and Claire Sugrue, and defensive specialist Neda Salehi going off to college leave Wilcox with another sports cliche—big shoes to fill. Conservatives a la Brad Wilcox who whine that wealthy college-educated liberals don't preach enough about marriage and kids are so obnoxious lol
Who has higher divorce rates: Non-college educated white people that live in trailer parks or dual-income families who are members of the Scarsdale Country Club (Jamaal Bowman's current district)? The latter group plans their kids' high school extracurriculars in kindergarten!
Conservatives are never going to make high-income effete liberals who'd eat their own Lululemon leggings before allowing their varsity volleyball playing daughters to become teen moms preach about the importance of marriage and kids, build a bridge and get over it.
I get the frustration with the "do as I say not as I do" virtue signaling that liberals do but also, people don't need to be spoon fed the importance of monogamy and financial judiciousness, they can figure it out for themselves or they never will even with endless proselytizing.

A Big Win for the Varsity Girls
By Emilie Kristoffersen
On the 28th of January, the Varsity girls play a home game against Lewiston. The game went well, ending the first half 38-16. At halftime, the girls took over Lewiston once again and ended the game with a score of 59-29.
Senior Krista Menninga, who made 23 points, commented, “Our game against Lewiston was probably one of the most fun games we have had. The whole game we played with intensity and never let up. As a team, we played together. To win with such a big lead felt amazing.”
Senior Shelby Wilcox said, “The game went well. We played well as a team. We have had our four last games really start to come together, so it was nice having everything really come together for the game against Lewiston.”
Junior Olivia Gottula mentioned, “The game went really well. We played good defense and then scored a lot of points on offense. We played really well as a team. It was really fun to win.”

Terry Wilcox is seventeen years old and a senior at Greensville High School.
Terry was born and raised in the small town of Greensville, North Carolina with his mother and father. His mother, who had no other children, spoiled Terry rotten, giving him all the material items he’s ever asked for. On the other hand, his father constantly compared him to his two older half-brothers. Thomas and Tyler, who are five and seven years older, respectively, always seemed to do everything right in their father’s eyes, while Terry could never be as smart as they were. Even though he only saw the two older boys on weekends, he began to hate everything about them by the time he reached high school. Though his mother is fully aware of his father’s actions, she turns a blind-eye, too afraid to stand up to her husband. From the outside looking in, it appears that Terry has everything a young boy could ask for. He’s on the high school’s varsity football team, has decent grades, and has a thriving social life. However, there are three things in life that Terry doesn’t have: his father’s love, a plan after high school, and the girl of his dreams, Alice Conroy. With graduation quickly approaching, the pressure is on for him to come up with a game plan for college. There aren’t many things about school that interest Terry aside from sports and friends, neither of which will help him on the path to a successful career, according to his father. Alice, his neighbor and best friend since childhood, is one of the few people who truly understands him. She’s never compared him to his brothers, as she knows first-hand how difficult it can be to be overshadowed by a sibling. The two have been inseparable since preschool, yet Terry has yet to find a way to express his romantic feelings for her. Will he ever get what he truly wants in life, or always come up short?

The names with asterisks were active bullies, whether it was in person -sometimes physically (or threatening to stab me and or plant a knife in my bag to get me expelled)- or online -cyber harassment- The names with no asterisks are people who stood by knowing it was happening. This is not a full list. Some of the people on this list are people I still talk to because we were "friends" and "still are". To all of you on this list, fuck you. Fuck you because I'm 22 years old and this shit happened in elementary and middle/spilled over into high school and I'm still not over it. I still see some of y'all around my hometown and I lock up and have to leave the building until you're gone and y'all probably don't even remember me, or what you did. Fuck you because I still feel like the nerdy 5th grader that just wanted to read, not to be told that I would never have friends because I was stupid and ugly and fat and boring. Or being shoved into the window seat and harassed the entire bus ride home for anything and everything. Or the kid being made fun of for trying to support/represent my mom when she had cancer. I still feel like that chunky, frizzy haired, wire glasses wearing 12 year old being told she's annoying. I still feel like the too skinny on purpose, too quiet 13 year old getting fake asked out in front of your bros because it was funny to embarrass me. I still feel like the freshman in high school being told "I'll fucking cut you" by a senior sitting behind me in chorus when I asked her to quiet down so I could hear the instructions. I still feel like the lonely 15 year old kid desperately tagging along behind the cool girls that treated me like shit except when we were at Girl Scouts together. I still feel like that depressed and mildly suicidal 16 year old getting shouldered into a locker by a fucking lineman on our varsity team because I pissed off his girlfriend on accident. I still feel like the senior in high school that had to eat lunch with the principal's secretary because you kicked me off of the lunch table and got your friends to keep me from finding somewhere else to go, but at least it wasn't eating alone in the bathroom right? Fuck y'all.

By Keegan Vetrovsky
On January 9, the Lady Indian Varsity team plays against the Johnson-Brock Eagles. Unfortunately, the night ended with a loss with a score of 32-50.
When asked about the game, Senior Shelby Wilcox commented, “For me, that game was not my best that I have played. The coaches wanted us to grow from our core and control the controllable.”

Your Name, Age (17+), & Timezone: Lauryn 21
Terry Wilcox turned 17 years old on June 1st. He’s a senior at GHS in Greensville. His face claim is Jacob Elordi.
Bio (10+ sentences, include brief history, personality, potential plots):
Terry was born and raised in the small town of Greensville, North Carolina with his mother and father. His mother, who had no other children, spoiled Terry rotten, giving him all the material items he’s ever asked for. On the other hand, his father constantly compared him to his two older half-brothers.
Activity (1-10): 8
Have you read the rules?: removed
In the event that you leave, can we keep your biography for future use? No
Any comments/questions?: Terry is best friends with Alice Conroy
Sample (2+ paragraphs):
Terry pushed through school that day with a half-assed attitude. He didn’t want to be there but knew he had to be in school if he wanted to play in the game that night. When the clocked ticked down to the time of the bell ringing he shot out of his seat and rushed to his locker, shoving papers in left and right. He grabbed his duffel bag and made his way to the locker room.
Once there he smiled at his teammates and joked around as he changed into his football uniform and tied his sneakers. Terry grabbed his helmet and made his way to the field. He looked over his shoulder and saw Alice, his best friend and the girl he’s been pinning over for years, laughing with some of the girls on her team. He didn’t realize he was staring until he was bumped by his teammate Rocco. Terry got pulled on his helmet and got into position waiting for the coin toss to begin the game.

The Wilcox Chargers varsity volleyball squad put up a valiant fight against the Lynbrook Vikings on Monday night. While Lynbrook would take the match in straight sets, 25-17, 25-18, 25-16, the Chargers had opportunities in each of the first two sets to seize momentum, but just didn’t quite have enough firepower. Perhaps had Wilcox been at full strength, the match could have been flipped in their direction. Read complete news at svvoice.com.

The Sept. 30 varsity volleyball victory for the Fremont Firebirds was without a doubt one of the most impressive and improbable come-from-behind victories in school history—for any sport. Fremont finished off the win with a winner-take-all fifth set after dropping the first set by a whopping 25-8. In seven seasons of covering high school volleyball, this writer had never been more convinced after an opening set that the game would be decided in straight sets. Some might say that’s the beauty of sports, you never know what’s going to happen next. Read complete news at svvoice.com.
