Valentine's Headcanons <3

yippee more call of duty headcanons, this time a valentines special! I forgot to write anything so I'm writing this last minute in my after school club </3 This one is specifically romantic coded, but could be a very close platonic relationship I guess.

Price - he's very traditional about Valentine's Day. A bouquet of flowers, your favorite, a box of chocolate, a nice dinner date, and millions of compliments. Any gift, no matter how small, means the world to him. You can see the way he lights up when you hand it to him, and insists you didn't have to.

Soap - some sort of fun date, he wants it to be unique. An escape room, or go karting, or an improvement show idk, just not something you'd do everyday. He gets you some treats as well, of course!

Gaz - sweet little lover boy over here <3 full royal treatment, you are not going to lay a finger on anything remotely stressful. He showers you in compliments, gets you flowers, gifts, candy, a teddy bear, the works.

Ghost - he has a hard time showing his emotions, so he ends up putting it off until the last minute. He tries, of course, but he would rather you just tell him what you want to do. In the end, he decides to just say yes to everything you suggest, hoping you'll understand that's his way of showing he cares.

Makarov - he doesn't celebrate, not fully. He's far too busy and doesn't really care for giving meaningless gifts. What's the point on spending money on all that? He does, however, enjoy receiving gifts he's always been a taker. At most, you can get a few things out of him, with enough begging and convincing.

Graves - he goes above and beyond with Valentine's. One of those person sized teddy bears, more flowers than you could ever need, everything. He takes you shopping, and makes a home cooked meal. He also likes to show you off, evey person he gets the chance to tell, he's on and on about how you're his valentine, and how he's yours.

König - he hasn't celebrated Valentine's Day for most of his life, so he's very pathetic. He tries his best, but shopping for flowers scares him since there's so many and be doesn't know what any of them are. In the end, he gives you a little box of chocolates and a handwritten card, and hopes that its good enough. He doesn't know how to receive compliments so it's a lot of awkward nodding and thanking and apologising.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

ERM I keep forgetting to post these sketches (by "forgetting" I mean cowering because I'm not confident in drawing these characters yet LOL) BUT figured it's finally about time. Just a couple time travel AU sketches vaguely based on this fic!! (sorry they're so purple I love purple)

Out of all of the people The Ghost King Phantom expected to relate to, it definitely wasn’t the scrawny red headed photographer of the Daily Planet. Jimmy Olsen has gotten so many temporary superpowers over his time being Superman’s friend. Hell, he once gained a 4th dimensional being’s reality warping abilities when he was given said dimensional being’s powers during a fight. Sure there’s a dozen or so heroes with the same amount of powers he has, but none as suddenly granted to them as a all powerful god that can relate to a teenager.

I was reading a post about CoTG and I realized: Rick has seemingly started to write every character pairing with the exact same dynamic, and he's not good at writing that dynamic and it doesn't make sense for 90% of the characters he writes it for.

It's that very specific dynamic of one half of the pair who is almost aggressive to the other party - "teasing" them constantly/insulting them, affectionately punching/judo flipping/maiming/etc, seemingly almost always exasperated with the other - and said other party usually just accepts this treatment or blanketly views it fondly, and may generally be framed as more incompetent than their partner and a little bit of a doormat (particularly relating to being insulted/teased/etc by their partner).

We start seeing this dynamic in HoO with Percy and Annabeth, as a sort of semi-inconsistent twist on their rivals-to-friends-to-lovers dynamic from the first series. Then the dynamic pattern develops further with Leo and Calypso. Then Magnus and Alex. Then Nico and Will, particularly in TSATS. And now in CoTG, it's Percy and Annabeth again but even more in this direction.

I know people have talked about Nico and Will's relationship over the series rapidly being shoehorned into Percabeth Two™, and it's extremely apparent in TSATS that Rick's doing it on purpose (including directly quoting Percabeth scenes but minorly tweaking them to be Solangelo). But recognizing it as an overarching trend in Rick's later books honestly reminds me a lot of how Rick started trying to apply the "Percy Formula" so-to-speak to nearly every protagonist in HoO (and then try to replicate similar character archetypes with Magnus and Apollo's narrations - moreso Magnus in being jaded and sarcastic, very much trying to be first series Percy. He only sounds unique because Rick failed at making him Percy 2. Apollo is more akin to later-series Percy characterization of being goofy and incompetent. Apollo [and Zeus] even got retconned to give Apollo a more similar backstory to Percy's). Rick seems to have decided that he thinks the audience wants this specific dynamic but 10 times over, except he's not good at writing it the first time because it's a bastardization of the time he did a different thing okay.

And Rick also seems aware of that too! Because he retconned Calypso and Leo at the end of TOA, probably because he realized how absolutely awful it was reading when they were written with that dynamic of Calypso just functionally hating Leo and constantly being aggressive towards him! The only time Rick's actually made the dynamic even semi-successful was with Magnus and Alex, because it actually fits within their characters, their dynamics with each other, and their environment. Alex beheading Magnus on the regular works out fine because there are no repercussions to that in Valhalla, Magnus will be fine, so it does genuinely come off as humorous. And Alex has been effectively established to be abrasive at times but have her genuine feelings shine through regularly, and that meshes well with Magnus' jaded-and-aloof-but-quietly-very-empathetic character. And Magnus has been established to, yes, not be great at combat, particularly compared to Alex. They are the only time that flavor of dynamic in that form was effective and cohesive.

Percabeth is no longer rivals-to-friends-to-lovers badasses on equal levels with shaky pasts who finally found some form of permanence with one another. Now it's super smart doting and affectionately aggressive girlfriend and her silly goofy 50%-of-the-time incompetent boyfriend who she judo flips/pushes off cliffs/etc - but affectionately~! Solangelo is trying to riff off of the early series "Poseidon & Athena are enemies" dynamic that Percabeth had but with Apollo & Hades being "opposites" but learning to accept each other, except it ends up with Will just coming off as a huge asshole and Nico being retconned to a complete doormat about it - when prior to that those characterizations would be completely contrary to their established characters (even just from TOA!). Calypso in HoO gets retconned from her PJO characterization to being snooty and aggressive, and Leo's false persona gets merged into his just normal personality except he just also becomes a doormat but more goofy than Nico with occasional haha-dark/depression-humor! Which Nico also got. Which was also a bastardized Percy trait that got redistributed.

It's exhausting. Rick write more than one relationship dynamic you can do it I promise

What's so fun about BruJay as a ship is Jason's sheer obsessive devotion to Bruce. Jason is possessive over Bruce, to the point he doesn't care about the deaths of others so long as he has Bruce's attention. A part of the UTRH arc this isn't talked about enough is that Bludhaven fucking explodes mid-way and Jason won't let Bruce see if Dick is alive.

A lot of discussion about UTRH paints Jason as this anger-driven cold, calculating machine up against Bruce when it's so clear that his love for Bruce is what drives him at his root, even if he won't acknowledge it. He says it himself, he would've done anything if it was Bruce who'd died instead of him and his anger is rooted in that possessive devotion not being reciprocated.

BruJay as a ship always to be, to some level, unrequited. Even if Bruce loves Jason back in that way, he'll never be that obsessed with Jason. Jason will always view Bruce's love for Dick or Tim to be a distraction, proof that Bruce isn't dedicated enough to him. Jason has the need to always have Bruce's attention, even when it could come at the cost of Bruce's other loved ones. Something something cannibalism as a metaphor for love in how Jason wants to consume Bruce's whole existence. He can't let Bruce leave him again, can't let Bruce love or grieve anyone else. Forcing Bruce to choose between Jason and the Joker isn't just about confronting Jason's killer, it's about confronting the other person who exists as this duality with Bruce and consumes so much of Bruce's life. That's the role Jason wants to fill, calling himself Red Hood and forcing Bruce to look at what he's become. But still loving Bruce and wanting more than anything for Bruce to reciprocate that love in the way that Jason understands. I just think it's good soup and rife with Dynamics that are underexplored with them.

I've played around with a vest and jeans outfit but it felt too fancy. My main and previous posts showed an attempt with a gingham jacket but, in the end, I really like a simple top with some overall straps so that's the look he's gonna have. Zombee/StrawBee cameo here as well. @coffinwoodd was sweet and colored the first doodle of Zombee and Stu when I first showed her. I'm in the [overdue] process of redrawing it.

A color test to see what works for this au but also 'cos I'm unhinged and like the design of the movie dress, threw Stu in it for the giggles. The pink and blue is a reference to The Now Now, when this au was supposed to take place. [Kansas was motivation] Now it doesn't take a particular place in the lore- it's just whenever. [Poorly drawn dog not included]

The amount of times I redrew this image is ridiculous, yeah, but I like to try and push expression and poses the further I practice and come back to old art. But, fuck me, the first one might as well be suffering from rigor mortis with how stiff and lifeless it looks. How the fuck do people draw Murdoc??? Do I gotta sell my ass to Satan to draw this guy on model? I did it once and now can't do it again.
