HI. fake fic titles: Sticky Note Discussions -or- It Began at the Izakaya. For kiribaku (bnha) or your slash naruto or haikyuu!! ship of choice~~ hope you're having a great day <33

for the fake fic titles thing! thanks for sending one in :') i was uuhhh having kuroyaku feelings earlier so ima do them (theyre my fave hq!! ship haha); this also turned out long cuz i cant help myself, apparently 😅 this is honestly basically a ficlet lmao 🤦🏻‍♀️

sticky note discussions (kuroyaku):

it all starts in their 1st year at nekoma, when the class bell interrupts one of their stupid arguments. theyre not in the same class, so kuroo continues to argue his point by jotting down his (clearly superior, yakkun!) points on a sticky note and aggressively smacking it right on yaku's forehead as they pass each other in the hall on the way to their own class

yaku replies with his own sticky note (he gets laughed at when he tries to pay it back and stick it on kuroo's forehead but cant reach, and then after kuroo suffers a wounded kneecap so yaku can reach, he gets once again defeated by kuroo's dumb--theyre dumb, okay, not cute, okay kai, okay--bangs)

anyways, they reach volleyball practice and realize theyve accumulated a whole argument stated on several stickies, and they get decide to lay it out inside yaku's locker to argue their finer points again, bc theyre both actually nerds who need the last word, and they do this until practice starts

and so it continues. yaku gives kuroo his lock combo, and they have sticky note arguments debates. they dont always argue on stickies and pass them to each other in the halls throughout the day, but they end up filling out the locker to the point that yaku clears it out except for the last two points from each of them (he puts them in a shoebox he leaves in his locker after he got new vball shoes one time after class)

it was always kind of dumb arguments until one game, when yaku's off the bench and nekoma's facing off against a team that has really high endurance, nd yakkun's never been in such a high intensitt game before for so long and his thighs hurt and he's bent and dived every single time but sometimes it's not enough cuz your body's just physically not there yet, the senpai spiking the balls on the other side of the net have been doing squats for three whole years more than he has and he's not gonna give up--he's never gonna give up--but unfortunately, sometimes time just does make a difference. and they lose the game, and yaku's feeling like it's because he's just not there yet goddammit and he's annoyed cuz there's nothing he cant do that hes not already doing, except to do it for three more years.

and kuroo doesnt really know what to say. yaku doesnt wanna look at his face bc theyre still more rivals than friends despite their shared goal of heading to nationals, and their friendship isnt there yet. but. but kuroo cant just let yaku continue feeling like that. so he writes a sticky note while their starting libero gives yaku a cheer-up pep-talk, and the stucky note's just a reminder of all the good moves yaku did pull during that game, and how much of a badass he was.

kuroo needles at yaku like normal as yaku makes his way to his locker, which yaku just tolerates, and kuroo and kai manage to get him to agree to get ice cream while yaku opens his locker door, and then yaku sees the new sticky note.

kuroo tries not to watch too closely as yaku rips the note off, reads it closely with furrowed brows, and then darts a glance at kuroo. kuroo raises a brow and tries his hardest to look nonchalant and borderline unimpressed, and yakkun flushes and flips him off and turns back to his locker to hide, but kuroo spots edge of a smile and pretends not to see anything when yaku sniffles a little and swipes at his eyes.

they get ice cream, and the next day, kuroo sees a sticky note detailing kuroo's good points from his three seconds of middle blocking from the game, and a thanks. the thanks is small and squished, like yaku wasnt planning on adding it but then decided to add it after all. it makes kuroo smile and he sticks it in his own locker.

yaku sees it later, when theyre talking with their locker doors open, and kuroo writes down his own lock combo and sticks it into yaku's locker.

yaku's locker remains the place for their ongoing discussions--which is more than just debates now, actually--but occasionally yaku sticks a stucky note with a doodle on it or other random thoughts that he thinks kuroo would find funny, which he usually does. when kuroo's having a particularly bad day, yaku leaves one that's just like, "u gonna smile today or will i have to buy u snacks or something" and it makes kuroo smile immediately, day 10x brighter, and they go for snacks anyways

and then it's the end of the school year, and theyre about to go on break for a few weeks, and they have to clear out their lockers for some annual maintenance (i have no idea how lockers work in the japanese school system but i assume they must require cleaning at some point???) and yaku's got this shoebox with a mountain of sticky notes and he's memorized the shape of kuroo's handwriting as much as he knows the set of kuroo's shoulders when his hands are up and ready for a block, how sharp his eyes can be when he's calculating ball trajectory, his grin when yaku writes something particularly stupid for him to read.

and now yaku's holding a shoebox full of conversations, looking at the empty inside of his locker door, wondering when this meaningless sticky note discussion became the most meaningful part of his day

"you kept them," kuroo says from behind yaku, and yaku doesnt startle because he's so used to kuroo having his back like this. he feels safer with kuroo there.

yaku does try not to flush though, probably fails. he clutches the box closer. "yeah, and?"

kuroo smiles that slight smile, the one that isnt teasing or sardonic or annoyingly intimidating--the one that feels real, and just yaku's. "i keep mine too," he says, and pulls out a small notebook that's bursting a little with flattened sticky notes, all full of yaku's writing, dumb thoughts and dumber doodles. "you didnt leave one today though."

yaku shrugs. "didnt know what to say."

"how bout, i'll miss you terribly deeply this break, kuroo-kun! how can i survive without seeing your beautiful face and hearing your beautiful voice every day, kuroo-kun!" kuroo's laughing, and yaku rolls his eyes and doesnt think about how maybe his teasing is more true than he wants it to be.

but then he does think about it, and like... he will miss talking to kuroo every day. he has the cursh on the guy, ofc he will, sue him. "we should hang out during the break," yaku says, suddenly.

kuroo pauses in his laughing, and raises his brows. "so you will miss me?"

yaku glowers. "is that so hard to believe, dumbass?"

kuroo smiles suddenly, and takes out the pad of stickies and a pen that he keeps in his locker and hasnt packed away yet, to write something down. he smacks the sticky on yaku's forehead, like the v first one from the start of the school year.

"i cant believe we havent even exchanged numbers, but i guess our sticky notes were like texts anyways," kuroo says as yaku removes the sticky note from his forehead and finds a phone number on it.

yaku rolls his eyes again and fishes his phone out of his pockets to text the number and then add it to contacts. it's yaku. we're hanging out over the break, non-negotiable, he writes.

kuroo's phone chimes and he pulls it out and reads yaku's text before smiling. yaku watches, expecting him to respond in person. what he doesnt expect is for kuroo to look intently at yaku, and then back down at his phone to type a reply.

yaku's phone vibrates in his hand and he looks down to see a text notification from kuroo. he opens it and it says, can i negotiate whether or not it will be a date?

yaku blushes and looks back up at kuroo, who is also blushing but looks determined nonetheless. "youre not expecting me to text you back my answer, are you?" he asks.

kuroo looks pained for a brief moment. "please just let me know now," he says.

yaku laughs. "dumbass. a date sounds good."

and kuroo laughs and they leave the locker room holding hands, with their sticky note discussions all packed up in their bags.

epilogue of sorts: i want u to know the sticky note stuff doesnt go away. they use each others' lockers for more discussions throughout high school. in uni, yaku sends sticky notes with letters and souvenirs and inside kuroo's school textbooks and notebooks and kuroo leaves stucky notes all over yakkun's possessions whem he moves to russia. when they move in together later on, they leave sticky notes for each other all over the place in their apartment and no one but each other will ever understand how sappy they can get.

case in point: yaku's first wedding anniversary present to kuroo is a bound book of the stickies from the shoe box, with space for kuroo to add his own from that notebook in first year, cuz yaku knows kuroo kept his stickies too :')

OKAY ITS 11:26 PM AND I SHOULD BE SLEEPING BUT I BINGED THE HUNGER GAMES MOVIES TODAY AND ALSO WATCHED MOCKINGJAY PT 2 FOR THE FIRST TIME AND I CANT STOP THINKING ABOUT PEETA

okay so first off i just wanna say mockingjay pt 2 is 100% my fave thg movie simply bc of the ANGST

all i could think about while i was watching it was how GOOD the mf fanfiction would be

like,,,,, the descriptions of trauma and pain and hurting and healing and his reasons for being homicidal and the panic attacks he probably has and oh my god im gonna die

like peeta’s ENTIRE character arc in that movie is just. healing from trauma and i literally Cannot i love angst

like?? just think of him getting to 13 and hearing katniss’s voice in that room and his heartbeat spikes and fear floods thru him and he knows something bad is coming and he’s gonna be hurt bc he’s always hurt when she’s involved and he’s not restrained, he can make the first move, he has to make the first move or she’ll hurt him again

or being strapped down to the bed in that observation room, pulling and straining and struggling in his restrains, just trying desperately to escape bc he’s in a building with katniss and he’s scared and afraid and alone and vulnerable and if he doesnt get out he never will

or being taken to the other district where katniss and her squad are, muttering “my name is peeta mellark, i’m from district 12,” over and over bc if he doesn’t he’ll forget again, he’ll forget who he was and who he now has to be again and he cant forget again or the handcuffs will stay on and he’ll never be trusted and he’ll never be truly safe, not when nobody there knows who he is anymore, not even himself

or trying to test the waters, talking to katniss despite every instinct in him telling him it’s unsafe, she’s unsafe, and finnick telling him that if he’s unsure about his memories he can just ask, and it’s such a simple solution but it was so easily overlooked until he was told about it bc the thought never even crossed his mind that maybe they might be willing to help and maybe they aren’t as bad as he thought

or listening to the sound of gunfire from the pod as he crouches behind the wall with strangers he has to trust with his life, but his eyes are glassy and his heart’s racing but he can’t even feel it bc all he can focus on is the gunfire, how he listened to gunfire just like it kill innocent people in the capital, innocent prisoners, some of which he knew but most of which didn’t seem to have anyone and all of which died at the hands of snow and peacekeepers, a fate he was threatened with constantly before and after he sat in the furthest corner of his cell, trying to cover his ears and muffle the guns and the screams and banging his head on the wall in a feeble attempt to die, just die, just let me die already

or running from that black goop chasing them and his survival instincts kick in and all he can think about is surviving, he has to survive, he needs to survive, even if it’s at the cost of someone else’s life, and he doesn’t feel in control of himself at all when he watches himself grab the nearest person and drag him to the ground, throw him into the sea of black to die before somebody restrains him and he’s dragged inside only to be tranquilized like a rabid dog, like an animal, because at that point, it’s practically all he is

or fighting the sewer monster things and seeing katniss being attacked and for just a moment, considering not helping her because all that matters is that he survives this, but he snaps out of it just enough to drag it off of her and divert its attention to attacking him instead and he’s panicking because he just saved her and he thinks she’s left him to die, he can’t keep it at bay for much longer and he’s going to die because nobody else here cares about him, katniss is the only one who’d even bother to try and help him, and then finnick kills it and saves his life but that only makes his screams echo in his head when he doesn’t make it

or running in the underground parking lot(?) and just barely making it and he’s just barely keeping himself from murdering someone again and then he just can’t find it in him to keep going, can’t find any reason to keep going when all he is is a liability because he can’t even be trusted, he can’t even not get someone killed, finnick died because of him and he’s so fucked up he has homicidal urges that he’s just barely able to stop himself from acting on and there’s no point in him going on anymore, there’s no point in him living anymore

or sitting with katniss and asking her to handcuff him because although he doesn’t want to be vulnerable, he doesn’t want to be the reason another person dies and they treat him so well, better than he’d been treated in so long, and it just isn’t fair that what they get in return for that is a murderous, broken man, and he’d rather be cuffed than be a danger to the people who barely know him and yet have been so kind that they’ve kept him alive and haven’t even hurt him at all for how little he contributes

or talking to gale, remembering gale’s history with katniss and that he himself has no chance with her, not with gale, not when she’d obviously choose her childhood best friend over him, and he can’t deny to himself that he’s afraid gale thinks he’s a threat because he’d be completely vulnerable to him if he wanted to just kill him, only to be told that gale thinks the opposite and that he has no chance with peeta, but although it does give him a little hope, it also gives him guilt because he knows gale deserved her far more than he ever would

oh my GOD the potential angst hurts

but it’s been almost an hour since i started writing this and now my headcanons are written down so i’m gonna try to actually sleep lmao

UWU I'm in the mood for some Raphael talk, I love the headcanon you've talked about in the chat about Raphael tolerating Alec only because he makes his dad happy (which is so damn valid of him), and it's one of my most fave things do you have more slightly silly headcanons about it?

okay disclaimer Alec stans pwease dont hate me uwu I'm not saying i hate Alec I'm saying that i dont think Raphael would vibe with him. especially after the whole punch which I'll never get over cuz like i KNOW rationally that alec didnt have the full story and if izzy was hurt and sitting beside a white shadowhunter he would go there and beat them up all the same cuz alec's like this, but I'm still upset eidndidjdid my boy doesnt deserve this okay

anyway with that being said

i dont think its Raphael like, genuinely hating him as much as them having nothing in common besides their mutual love for Magnus and desire to see him happy. so Raphael can tolerate him fine, but he's not exactly dying to be best friends. besides, alec's like, all of the most annoying things about shadowhunters (all serious, never fucking relaxes, must have a weapon close at all times, doesn't understand food, doesn't listen to music, doesnt-) that arent like straight up nazist bigotry. so hes just like. ugh. whatever. I'm here for Magnus. leave pls

i can absolutely see that tbh Raphael just goes to their house and is all like "Alec leave i want to talk to Magnus" and alec's like "this is my house?" and raphael's like "and?" and alec's like "Fine, ill take a walk. Magnus, Raphael is here." but he also kisses Magnus goodbye in front of Raphael because he can, in fact, be an ass

also i know i told u about that already but Raphael lowkey challenges him every time like. he'll come by Magnus' and bring food, and of course theres food for 3 because Raphael is not gonna be that rude and he doesn't want to make Magnus feel like Raphael wants him to choose between Raphael and Alec. Alec makes Magnus happy and Raphael would never want to make Magnus feel like his love or presence in his life is conditional. Plus, he doesn't actually hate him. Just a little.

anyway so he brings the food and he's like (clearly judgemental tone) "i brought hot sauce because i figured Alec doesn't usually eat spicy food" and he's obviously correct, Alec had never eaten anything with season in his life before he met Magnus, much less pepper. he's the kind of ultimate, boss-level gringo who puts salt on his food when he's feeling adventurous

so Raphael sits down and puts the food on his plate and he pours hot sauce into his plate while making unwavering eye contact with Alec (yeah raphael can eat in this because he deserves it and i said so) and it's an obvious challenge and it evidently works because Alec 1- is competitive, and 2- actually wants Raphael's respect because he knows how important he is to Magnus. so he takes the salsa from Raphael and starts pouring it too while maintaining eye contact right back, jaw clenched in challenge, looking all serious and Magnus is like "children, please" and raphael's all like "oh no no no, let him" but Alec considers that a win because Raphael is clearly trying to contain a smile and thats the first step to winning him over

so anyway Alec sweats and grimaces through the whole meal, cuz like, look yes he may have pain tolerance because he's a shadowhunter but he's also the bitch who reacted to taking a sip of beer like someone had farted on his face. he can't hide his reactions for shit, but fuck if he doesn't lick the plate clean (not literally like gross) and doesn't shed a single tear, even as he clearly can't keep his eyes open with the effort

Magnus is like "Alexander, you dont have to do this" and alec's like "(eyes squeezed shut, grimacing, drenched in sweat) do what? this is very good" and Raphael is smiling into his plate even as Magnus shoots him dirty looks

in reality the shelf was too high up because Magnus adjusted his shelves to his and Alec's height, and Raphael refused to stand on his tiptoes or god forbid, a stool, to grab his book, so he was just glaring at the shelf until the book came to him or something. and when Alec put the book up he was mad cuz Alec could reach it fjdndid

later Alec tells Magnus about it like "i dont get what i did. is he just that private?" and Magnus is like "hmm. i have no idea, darling" but next time Raphael comes, the shelves have been spelled to adjust to the book picker's height

also this always makes me think of that scene in hsm where zeke tries to talk to sharpay and she goes "evaporate, tall person!" and leaves and i love that mental image tbh

also like. eventually Alec apologizes for the punching thing (look. look. Im still salty and Raphael deserves it okay) and Raphael is like. moved because something deep inside of him still believed it was his fault and he was a monster, and it's. nice. and Alec kind of extends his arms and Raphael is like "dont think so" and crosses his arms and Alec kind of very very slowly lifts his arm and pats Raphael's head once and Raphael wants to scream and Alec looks very awkward and sheepish and Magnus bursts out laughing

(Raphael doesnt mind, though, because Magnus is genuinely so happy all day that they had a good interaction. so happy. and Raphael thinks, okay, this is okay. it's good if it makes Magnus happy.)

(Magnus also pats his head and plays with his hair, but its okay because Magnus has always done that and Raphael doesnt mind. only from him though. and raphael's partners. but anyway)

plus whenever Magnus is like, upset, or sick or something, theyre like. an unit. because for all they have no common interests they do think very alike (autistic solidarity i guess) and are very practical when it comes to taking care of others, and they both just. adore Magnus, okay. so Raphael will arrive, make Magnus soup. while he makes soup, Alec stays with him and takes his temperature. once Raphael is back with the soup, Alec goes out to buy medicine, and Raphael stays with him to make him company. and so on. at some point Alec is almost falling asleep by Magnus' side and Raphael taps his shoulder and points to the chair nearby, and Alec nods and dozes off for a while. then its the other way around. Magnus isnt seriously sick, of course, but he doesn't usually get sick so it's an event, plus they're both Like This. and for all the grief they give each other, they trust each other to take care of Magnus. theres no argument about that

(Magnus was resting, but he did see some of these moments, and smiled a bit to himself before dozing off again)

also Raphael and Ragnor gave Alec the ultimate shovel talk (Ragnor doesn't trust anyone after Camille, and while neither do cat and dot, they were more chill), but it lowkey backfired because they were like "if you ever hurt him, we'll remove your kneecaps" and Alec was like "(nodding seriously) thats fair"

also i know we've talked about this already but i also love the idea that Raphael goes to their house and is all absentmindedly like "hm can i have some coffee" and alec's like "sure, ill make it :) you stay here and talk to Magnus" and when Alec comes back he hands Raphael his coffee in a "best. bonus son. ever" mug and then he leans back against the wall, sipping his own coffee from his "world's #1 stepdad" mug that he bought himself, trying to hide his shit eating grin, and Raphael scowls and deliberately holds it so his hand covers the words, and Magnus laughs and his eyes shine as he sips his tea.

he definitely did theatre at some point in his life

after his arrest he sometimes gets really nervous and has trouble conveying his words. he stumbles over them and cant convey his point well

ann and haru like to braid his hair sometimes

when he was younger he faked not being able to see so he could get glasses, it didnt work tho

so hence now he wears fashion glasses

I.. I’m kind of at a loss for words. I’m. That’s it, huh? It’s really over. It doesn’t FEEL over. There’s so much unfinished business. Well, the only way to really neatly wrap everything up as neatly as S1 did would have been to get ALL THE WAY through the Garou arc, which obviously wasn’t going to happen, but this is not a great spot to leave off if we’re going to endure another few years hiatus. My hope is that, with biweekley manga updates, we should wrap up the Monster Association/Garou stuff (assuming it doesn’t diverge from the web comic too much) some time next year, and I’m HOPING that s3 is already being planned accordingly along side manga publications. So MAYBE it will at least be announced around that time 2020. That’s my wishful thinking at least. I don’t think I can survive 3 years. anyway

You could really tell JC Staff poured their hearts and souls into these last 2 episodes. Absolutely gorgeous, paced well, so completely satisfying and making every second of s2 worth while. For me, at least. I’ve already seen people still complaining and I’m just sorry they didn’t have as much fun as I did. 

Seriously, thank each and every one of you guys. This has been a wild ride, I’ve barely had this blog a few weeks before season 2 started airing (and honestly just got into opm maybe a month before that?), so I owe a lot of the success on the blog to the anime I bet. This was the first series I’ve never tried live bogging, and I honestly can’t believe that they were as popular as they were? Especially since I never have any idea what I’m doing but yall listen to me ramble anyway?? Yall are crazy thank you so so so much. All the TOP 10 OF THE DECADE posts made me want to make one of my own, so here’s my 10 fave games this decade:

Yakuza 0  Shovel Knight  Nier Automata  Metal Gear Rising  Gunvolt Chronicles Luminous Avenger IX Final Fantasy XV   Scott pilgrim vs the world the game Undertale Persona 5  Doom

Danganronpa 2, New Vegas, Touhou Luna Nights, Katana Zero and Mario Odyssey all only barely missed out, and it was a tough decision not to include them. I loved the shit out of those games but thinking it through I decided they were just slightly less loved by me than the above.

Below the cut are some extended thoughts (of varying length) on the games included:

Yakuza 0

Every Yakuza game is delightful and this is definitely the best one, in my opinion. The Yakuza games appeal to me for a lot of reasons: the combat, the story, the variety of activities, the look of it all and the music. I feel like its a very unique game experience with its blend of weird in-depth side activities, serious crime drama, manly man masculine combat friendship melodrama, metal gear-esque convoluted conspiracies and a surprisingly compassionate view of the world it takes place in. 

The combat is what drew me in initially because it just feels good, the feedback of stomping on a dudes face in yakuza is delivered perfectly, and the attacks are brutal, hard and flashy. Its a very solid and satisfying combat system and in 0 its the best it has ever been. The ability to switch between 3 different and equally fun fighting styles on the fly really lets you mix things up and adapt your approach, every style feels fun and useful. If i had to pick a favorite it would be slugger, but its a tough choice, and they are all very viable and FUN.

Yakuza 0 also gets big points for having the best story in the series. The protagonists feel much more interesting in this era, the fights feel more earned in this game than others, the relationships are incredibly touching (I’m almost mad majima didnt stay with makoto) and the substories (and some parts of the main story) are the funniest they’ve ever been. Stuff like the quasi-stealth mission where you have to make sure women don’t see you buying a porn magazine for a child, and the extended scene of kiryu trying to guess the right business manners for a meeting had me laughing so much i was i was almost in physical pain.

The extensive business and host club substories get you tons of extra game content and are good enough to almost be there own game. The other games in the series have extended side activites of varying quality, but i think 0 had a rare case of all of these being, basically, perfect. The team obviously agrees since host club management came back repeatedly, but never as good as it was here.

Being set in the 80s elevates almost everything in the game because of the outfits, money flying out of every enemy you attack, the classic sega games you can play at the arcade (Outrun is so much fun and I’d have never have given it a proper go otherwise) and the disco minigame everyones made a meme out of (that music is so catchy).

As a final note this game has the best boss fights and music in the series, which is a very high standard to surpass when you look at the rest of the series. The dual final boss fights, the recurring boss for kiryu and almost every majima fight are highlights of the entire series for me. 

0 is going to end up being one of the few games I’ll never sell my copy of because i want it available for me to play forever, its a complete delight.

Shovel Knight

This game has been analysed to hell and back, so i wont have much original to say i suppose. Admittedly i did enjoy the first campaign but it didnt completely win me over, plague knights campaign and beyond was what really made this an all time greats for me. It’s one of very few games that gets the NES+SNES platforming appeal 100% right and essentially surpasses most games of the day, with almost perfect pacing, challenge and level design. IT helps that the whole world and story and look is charming as all hell. It’s an easy game to love and the more you play it the more that feels justified. Being PACKED with great content is also a plus. If you liked the first campaign you can just keep going through a set of campaigns about as good that only really rehash some level assets. I would say its one of the best 2D platformers ever for me, if not quite my true number 1.

ALSO JAKE KAUFMAN KNOCKS IT OUT THE PARK WITH THIS SOUNDTRACK

Since i have little else to add to the shovel knight discussion, here’s my ranking/thoughts on each campaign

Plague of shadows. BEST storyline, great levels with a really cool gameplay gimmick, the characters are all cute and the ending really makes me feel for him. both sorry for him at first and then a very real AAAAAAAWWWWWWWWW for LOVE

King of cards. king knight is just fun as hell to play as, he doesnt have that many tools but his movement is just crazy fun and i love the flair in all his animations. also has that rad final boss. joustus is ok i guess.

Shovel of hope. uuuuuuh what can i even say about this. its good, and the melancholy dream bits add a lot to the mood of the story. we’ve already analysed this campaign within an inch of its life i dont think i can say anything new. wish we could fight the battletoads on pc.

Specter of torment. still fun and i appreciate the tone change, but i didnt care as much for the characters and the mega man-esque level select doesnt suit shovel knight imo. specter knight has a lot of fun movement options though. mainly i just love GRINDING and the diagonal slash. i dont give a fuck about reize

Nier Automata

I feel a tiny bit ashamed i have so little to say about this considering it is one of the most emotional experiences i have ever had with a story. If i lsten to the final version of weight of the world i still cry just from remembering this game and how it made me feel. i think its one of the greatest narratives of the century but i can barely get across the appeal to anyone who hasnt already played it. its a story about hope, despair and the nature of the human race that never feels like its preachy or pretensious or taking on more than it can handle. it made me feel all kinds of emotions deeply and intensely, it genuinely made me burst into tears about 10 times, maybe more. even putting aside the ggrand narrative, theres so many cool character moments and bits of world building and visual eements and tragic little side stories that you would need a whole book to talk about them all while doing any real justice to them. i loved it so much that im paying £70 to see an orchestra do the soundtrack live. I want to hug and kiss 2b and 9s better. i just love it deeply and i find it hard to explain why it makes me feel that way, but its a dark beautiful and hopeful story where every moment feels earned. the despair of the story giving way to genuine hope with the rest of the world helping you fight for it is such an intensely emotional moment that you could never replicate outside of this kind of story and medium. how the fuck do i explain that to anyone that doesnt already get it. I’m glad this game exists

Metal Gear Rising 

Well, complete tone shift here. Platinum made a lot of great action games in the last decade that all dig into that same itch for DODGE SLOW MOTION BANG BANG BANG alongside great soundtracks, visuals and awesome set piece moments. Just intense, flashy, awesome combat. Picking a favorite of the decade was the hard part, because a platinum game had to be one of my faves of the decade. The closest was transformers, but mgr has a couple of things about it that put it above the rest of the platinum catalog for me.

The story actually works very well at still being metal gear while in the platinum formula, its about the cycle of violence and FINDING YOUR OWN PURPOSE and it works weirdly well. The strangest part is that it feels like a legitimate sequel to metal gear 4 tonally while still being the crazy action game it is

Raiden is just super fun to play as, while I’ll always miss the DODGE SLOWMO in a platinum game parry and zandatsu give a great flow to fights and there’s real exhilaration to parrying a hard chain of attacks and tearing out a bunch of enemies spines at once every time

raiden is also just  a fun protag, it truly allows me to embrace that kind of stereotypical edgy cool anime swordsman he embodies

BEST PLATINUM SOUNDTRACK DO NOT @ ME

Bosses just rule

one of the best final bosses ever, in my opinion? maybe that’s controversial, but armstrong gets an insane amount of characterization and pure PRESENCE out of such a small amount of screen time and the fact he feels like such a perfect rival to raiden so quickly is kind of nuts to me. within about half an hour you are ready for the ultimate final showdown with everything at stake, and then the gameplay 100% delivers on that with a fight that is challenging as hell and just feels climatic and intimidating. its a little thing, but having this dude just smack you around with his hands and almost no fighting skill after a game filled with crazy flippy cyborg ninjas makes him feel TOUGH and the way you finish him off? it just rocks, plain and simple. I don’t think i need to justify slices a massive dudes chest open and ripping out his giant still beating robot heart as the music climaxes and our cool edgy protag literally says WE’RE DONE HERE. truly, it has to be this way.

Gunvolt Chronicles Luminous Avenger IX 

For fast twitchy 2d platformers this barely beat out Katana Zero and Touhou Luna Nights, but i think its just a little better. The skill ceiling on this game is high as hell and once you really get to grips with it, its an experience you cant find anywhere else. its just satisfying as hell to be able to get through the point where you can ZOOM  through these levels by making use of copen’s dash and lock-on and weapons well enough. once you get good enough to get through a hole level without touching the ground, you just cant go back. I liked this enough to get an S rank on almost every level. this game just rules, man.

story, art and music are all great as well. but they pale in importance next to zippy jetpack zoom zoom fun time.

also great for having a cool twist that i genuinely did not see coming at all

Final Fantasy XV   

For context, my experience of FFXV was not the base game so i cannot personally address the concerns of the version at launch, which i hear from others was a total mess! The game has been updated and changed so much that it is probably almost unrecognizable aside from the absolute base aspects of it. The version i am talking about is, as far as we know, the “final” version released right before Episode Ardyn. There was of course an update after this, but it only added DLC compatibility and a few items, so it means very little in the grand scheme. I also played all of the dlc and watched all the periphery material to get the full, messy disjointed experience. it is also worth noting that the only other FF game i have played is the classic title Mario Hoops 3 on 3 Basketball. I feel it important to tell you this before getting into things so that you can have a full idea of the perspective i come at the game from.

This was chosen over Mario Odyssey and someone will probably kill me for that. I just think its a great emotional story that does a fantastic job of making you care for all the characters, and the world feels massive and full of cool stuff to see. It’s my favorite open world game and i love The Boys.  its not the kind of thing i usually play but i think it genuinely had a great story and its a very fun game to just explore and spend time in. ffxv truly understands the emotional bond between The Lads and it is fun to kill big monsters with your party

(they kinda ruin the last cutscene in english, in japanese he says I LOVE YOU GUYS and it makes me cry but in english he goes U GUYS ARE THE BEST which just isnt the same. a small nitpick though. a lot of this game made me cry regardless, its just great at creating an emotional bond)

I admire the insane level of ambition in the visuals and scope, and i bought every dlc for it because it was just that good. the ifrit boss fight and all the giant monsters are just amazingly epic in scale. the “found a cool rock” post is what i truly admire about this game summed up. 

all the ancillary material for the game is great and worth getting into, with the exception of the Comrades multiplayer expansion. Everything else adds depth to the story and the world without being entirely necessary for you to get through the story. the anime and the dlc all really feel worth getting into without being something you have to see to get The Full Experience

Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game

Being from 2010 this game only just makes it in, but it was my favorite beat em up this decade and a source of great nostalgia for me. It had a pretty big impact on music and art tastes in regards to games, and in retrospect this games existence was very much a dream team scenario. Paul Robertson is a great sprite artist who does a lot of good work, Anamanaguchi have gone on to become one of my favorite bands (another winter is still one of their best tracks imo) and at the time this came out i was obsessed with scott pilgrim. That plus the beat em up gameplay makes this kind of a perfect blending of a lot of my specific tastes. Playing this brings me back to the time in my school life that i played it very distinctly, a more comfortable time in my life for sure, and i think the game still stands up excellently. I hope that someday it will get a rerelease so others can enjoy it. I give this another play through every year or so, but i wish id gotten the dlc while it was still available

Doom

ITS VIOLENT ITS FAST ITS FUN ITS METAL

i like this game because of the intense adrenaline rush and violent catharsis it gives me, essentially a constant dopamine rush

Undertale

I’m glad i got to this before the massive wave of spoilers and popularity came about. It’s a great story with some fun gameplay, and i think SANS UNDERTALE was one of the best boss fights this decade. Its a shame that for so many new players this experience is going to be ruined by spoilers

Persona 5

Essentially, its got a great cast of characters, a cool slick look, great monster designs, a fun gameplay loop of collecting monsters and grinding stats while waiting for the next big event, and a surprisingly good story

No idea if royal is any good, but its on a pretty small list of games that i might actually take the time to replay

Earlier this morning my friends asked for some fake dating phan AU fics and I realized that making a fic rec list might be a good way to show some appreciation for fanfic author appreciation day!

I don’t have all day free like I wish, so I asked my friends for a few smaller catagories that I could shift through and find a few fics to rec from, that way I can get a good mix of fics for people to enjoy, and find as many authors as possible to thank! 

Of course, I can’t possibly have read every fic out there ever, so if you aren’t on here that’s no like, disrespect to you or anything. Every single person whose ever written and posted a fanfic deserves to be recognized and loved for what they’ve produce for us, so just know that I appreciate every single one of you, on or off this list!

To add to this, I tired to pick some older, or smaller works that people may have not seen before to give the authors a little lift if possible :)

Fake Relationship:

Our Threadbare Lies - @ramonaspeaks -  Dan is eighteen years old and newly single. He's ready to come out to his family but he thinks it would be a hell of a lot easier if he had a boyfriend to help him through it.

This is like one of my all time favorite fake relationship fics of all time. Honestly it was so well done and really realistic and the writing is just superb. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve re-read this fic, (as well as most of the authors other works) because it was just so well done, so thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to the author for all the hard work they put into it! On top of that, it holds really, really close to 2009 timeline (as we know it) and manages to make things work that might not have worked in their AU if they weren’t so smart about it

Maybe, Possibly - @cafephan -  Phil’s mother is adamant that he should be settling down, so invites one of his turbulent exes to an annual family get-together the following day. In a moment of panic, he tells her he’s already dating someone. With no other options, he turns to Dan.

aldjflkas I fucking love this fic so freaking much. I’ve read it like ten million times. Everytime it shows up on my dash I open it to read it again. It’s just really funny and sweet in a strange way, and captures an essence of dnp that I really enjoy. I like how easy it is for dnp to pretend to be together in this fic, and how easy it is for them to then transition to ACTUALLY being together. It’s the perfect kind of non-dramatic get together fake relationship AU ever and I really, really do love it. Again, massive thank you to the author!

friends dont treat me like you do - @internetakeover (i think i got your @ right) -  Why had Dan agreed to this? Pretending to be Phil’s boyfriend at his ex’s wedding had seemed like a nice idea at first, a way to meet some of Phil’s old university friends while helping him avoid humiliation, but already Dan’s on edge. If Dan allows himself to relax for a day, lets himself watch Phil as much as he wants, touch Phil as much as he wants, carry on their flirtatious banter when normally he’d laugh it off... he’s worried about what Phil might see.

I ended up re-reading this after I stumbled across it again just now hahaha I really love this fic. It’s super cute and a little sappy cause WEDDING FIC but that’s what makes it so worth the read. I love that both Dan and Phil realize how easy their relationship is, and the fact that they’ve technically been dating for a long time and that they love each other. I love that they realize this the way that they do, and it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, so thank you so much to the author <3

Asexuality

Between Us - @winteredspark who doesnt appear to have a tumblr :( - "I think I'm asexual," Dan breathes against the crook of Phil's neck, blinking back tears.There's a pause, then -"Nice to meet you, asexual. I'm Phil," says Phil.

This is the asexual fic that helped me to realize that I’m asexual and that asexuality is a spectrum that isn’t limited to one version or another. I remember leaving a really long thoughtout comment to the author but I can’t not rec it here as well. It’s just such an amazing asexuality fic and it’s a little bit of a different take not it considering the character exists on a different part of the spectrum than most ace fics portray. I will always be grateful to this author for this fic!

let’s save up for something new - @deletablebird -  Phil wakes up shivering the morning of October 19th, 2009. Today is the day he meets Dan. Fluff, 3.5k

I love this author with my whole heart and I’ve read everything they’ve written lol. This is just a really, really cute and lovely take on 2009 with the asexual aspect included and it really made my heart happy, so thank you so so much for this fic!

Theater

Disguises - @ramonaspeaks -  Phil auditions for a play at a local theater and meets Dan, who spends most of his time acting whether he’s on stage or off.

Again, another fic from one of my favorite authors of all time. This is like my actual favorite theater au of all time. I am completely in love with the whole thing. It feels so real, and their characters are so well fleshed out, and each scene is just actually fantastic. I solidly recommend this one and I am soooo thankful to the author for bringing it into existence!

just touched down in london town - @phanetixs - "Hamilton is actually really nice and the plot is very interesting and okay, well, there’s this guy."In which, London is not as bad in the summer, a cute guy dies considerably in Act III and Phil has actually lucked out for once.

Look not only do I stalk all of this authors fics, but this is one of my all time favorites of theirs. They managed to take an idea that almost seems ludicrous and make it into something not only super hot, but super realistic and really, really, really fun. I absolutely adore this fic and I give you all the kudos my wonderful author. Thank you for writing such a wonderful au!

Which as they kiss, consume - @irrevocablys which for some reason it wont tag you :( -  Dan’s an aspiring actor, and Phil’s so over studying Romeo and Juliet.

This was one of my first theater au’s and I truly adore it. its just like got this super cute undertone to it thats incredibly wonderful? I just love the way the characters interact and the ease and flow of the writing <3 thank you for giving us something so beautful

Supernatural Elements

Ride with the moon in the dead of night - @mooksie01 -Phil seriously needs to buy some allergy medicine or something. Or at least open a window next time he performs a demonic ritual. He wouldn't have thought that one little sneeze could've messed up a spell so bad, but now he has a demon on his hands and only six days to get rid of it before he's stuck with it forever....And maybe the demon is acting like a total cinnamon roll, but Phil is positive that it's all just an elaborate ruse.

ajdlsfkjasdlkjfls omfg I love this fic so much. I actually adore fics with supernatural elements in them and this is one of those fics that always stands out to me. It’s just really hilarious and well written and is just overall a fun take on witch phil. I just, i really love it, and I’m so grateful it exists. Thank you wonderful author <3

Reflections of the Heart - @butterflyphil - “Being told to dress up in a dinosaur onesie and have cereal catapulted at your face is a little odd. Waking up to find that you and your best friend have switched bodies? That’s fucking bizarre.”(Or, the multi-chaptered, slightly smutty bodyswap fic that no one asked for. Featuring whiny/annoying!Dan, sassy/beguiling!Phil, unintentional innuendos, intentional innuendos, unnecessary kitchen supplies, and just a pinch of magic).

He didn’t really think about getting involved with someone as dangerous as Phil Lester (someone as cold, as pale and, well, as not alive), and he definitely didn’t think that one trip out to a bar would change his life forever.

This is like a really older fic that’s from one of the first phandom big bangs but it’s one of my first favorite vampire fics of all time as well and it’s just. really good and really well thought and the collaboration work on it is incredibly flawless. I honeslty would tell anyone to read it at any time because it comes together so well

Sharp Teeth - @theshyauthor -  AmazingPhil is a Youtuber and a vampire and according to Dan Howell, he is the nicest person to exist. From their first meeting in 2009 all the way to that one incident in the elevator at the BBC, this is their story.

Again this is just such a good take on 2009 and the reality of dnp with added vampirism tossed in. Plus the author is a beautiful wonderful person and I really enjoy their writing so its a total please go read this kind of fic x3 Thank you darling for writing something so wonderful <3

Can you tell I love vampire fics? This one is so well done, I literally re-read it constantly. I love the whole idea behind it, specifically the fact that Phil’s version of courtship is literally ridiculous and he doesn’t even think that they need to talk about it hahahaha I just love how funny and adorable it is and it’s just totally worth a few minutes of your time

I honestly want to beg this person to write me more of this fic cause the permise is just that good. SO WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS…LOL kidding. WARNING! This is going to look like a mess because when I talk about this…it’s a mess & I’m a mess lmfao

THIS IS SUPER LONG 

So I attended B.A.P’s LOE 2016 in San Francisco, CA. This is my first time seeing them, I couldn’t go to the 1st two LOEs & I cried lmao. So anyway, I had a little over $200 in my bank account & after I purchased two tickets, I only had $2 LMFAO ANYTHING FOR B.A.P!!! I didn’t go to the venue until around 4pmish…stood in line for 3 hours. (I’ve stood in line for Infinite for 6hrs, 3hrs is nothing) We stood in the wrong line LMFAO we stood in the VIP line but quickly learned it wasn’t the general ad line. The general ad line was WAAAAAAYYYY much shorter THANK GOD! While we were standing in line the staff were selling BAP albums to whoever wanted a chance at Hi-TOUCH with BAP. I didn’t care to purchase it AT THE TIME because I would’ve been EXTREMELY upset if I had paid $40 & I got a regular album. So 7pm comes around & they finally open the doors & we’re let in, I buy a shit load of merch! I’m not going to list it all but I bought a lightstick; that my baby sister just broke recently ): Anyway we find our seats & the show is about to begin. My friend that I met online had told me she was attending earlier that day! I was stoked to meet her! We hugged when we saw each other & honestly that is the best way to meet someone for the first time! NOW!!!!! I DID NOT REALIZE THAT I WAS NOT SMILING BACK AT THEM! UNTIL I GET TO FCUKING HIMCHAN & HE DIPS HIS HEAD DOWN A BIT & SMILES REALLY BIG AT ME!!!!!! AND I SMILE BACK, I CAN FEEL MY WHOLE BODY GETTING HOT (FROM BEING SHY, NOT THAT OTHER THING YA NASTY! LOL) SO I PUT MY HAND UP AND HE HOLDS MY HAND AS IT SLIPS OUT OF HIS T^T I CAN’T EVEN FUCKING DEAL. AFTER THAT EVEYRTHING IS A BLUR. ALL I KNOW IS THAT JONGUP WAS AFTER & THEN BANG WAS LAST, HE WASN’T TOO HAPPY THAT DAY :( I WAS SAD HE WASN’T. THEN I EXIT THE ROOM & THE VENUE & I JUST FREEZE UP…..LIKE EXCUSE ME….DID THAT JUST REALLY HAPPEN?! WHAT?! I CAN’T, I JUST CAN’T. I swore to myself that I was not going toto wash my hand UNTIL THE NEXT DAY after I wake up. I then got scolded not to stand in front of the venue doors….which i mean i was like 8ft away from, rude sir. Anyway my friend leaves to go catch the last BART train & I’m like still in shock and I need to tell someone so I call my best friend that live sin Georgia so it’s like midnight there & i just start balling my eyes out telling her how I met BAP & that HIMchan smiled at me & I’m like I’ll let her go cos i know its late over there aand I’m gonna go wait for BAP to leave the venue then I’ll go home. So I walk over to the side of the building where some other fans are at & GIRRRRLLLLLL WE WAITED A HOUR OUT IN THE COLD! They didn’t leave til 11pm. You when they walk out we obvious scream lmfao & I’m right in the front of the barricade that is like 20 ft from the car & I shout “ I LOVE YOU!!!” AND I KID YOU FUCKING MOON FUCKING JONGUP HEARS ME & ACKNOWLEDGES ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I SWEAR! HE FUCKING MADE EYE CONTACT WITH ME! FOR 2 SECONDS & SMILED SHYLY & THEN GOT INTO THE VAN!!!!!!! AND THEN I CRIED. BAP leaves & then of course we all leave. I talked about it the whole way home (1hr) So remember how I said I swore I wasn’t going to wash my hand until I wake up the next morning,,,,well I failed. I went to use the restroom when I got home & I WASHED MY HAND T^T I WAS SO SAD lmfao I spammed text my best friend who was still awake & told her i washed my hand and she laughed lmfao I also texted my other good friend that attend the same concert & told her I got the chance to Hitouch BAP & she asked if I told Bang that she loves him & I told her no cos I myself didnt even tell Himchan that I love him, and I hope he stays the way he is becasue hes perfect the way he is. and doesnt need to lose weight becos I dont care about that and I only care about him being happy. She then scolded me that I should’ve been the one to tell him that becos we all know how much he needs to be told that. I then cried cos I had the chance and I didn’t. But now I know and next time, if there is a next time, I’ll be more prepared.

SOOOOOOO yes, that is how my BAP concert & Hitouch went….That was long lol

(he lives in germany and i live in the US). He’s a nerd but i adore him and he watches all of the Skam crack vids i send him even if he doesnt watch the show@jilliancares - I’ve always looked up to jillian ever since I found her writing and she remains to be one of my fave fanfic writers! I literally read everything she writes no matter what it is. Plus, she’s just a generally good person and always responds to all of her followers with respect! Good content 10/10@themostfuniveverhad - Gabi is literally one of the most popular phan blogs that I know, and for good reason! She has like 50k followers???? like HOW??? Well it’s because she makes bomb ass gifs and has good content! Literally without her, we probably wouldn’t have half of the content we do currently! She’s wonderful.@crescendohowell - I always considered Sam and I to be alike in many ways, except she is MUCH more artistic than me and she makes really cute edits! Julie is one of my best friends and she generally cares about everyone. She is known to the phandom as ‘mom’ because she is the creator of @phanfictioncatalogue and because she gives the BEST advice. When I met her the first time, it was like a dream come true. I want to shout about her to the world. @cafephan - Along with being the sweetest person ever, Kirsten has created some of the most beautiful fics I’ve ever read. I was obsessed with a fic of hers for a very long time (and it still continues to haunt me every now and then). On top of that, she reblogs really good content and is such a nice person to all of her followers! I don’t think i’ve ever seen her be mean to anybody!@vivianadichiara - This blog is literally my FAVORITE blog to come to for art. They’ve made a few pieces of art for one of my fics and I literally cried tbh. Their artwork is. AMAZING. Like seriously you’ve never seen anything like it before. It’s the place I go to when I wanna look at pretty things!@huphilpuffs - Callie is such a lovely person and they make really amazing gifs and write wonderful fics! I know a lot of people who think Callie is such a wonderful bean, and I’m one of those people, guilty as charged lmao. London and Me.

To be honest with you, I am still not over London. Like, I am still so happy every single time I think about it. I waited 10 years to see this band and they did not let me down. It has honestly taken me this long to formulate my thoughts and I’m not sure they even make sense.

Here is just a collection of things that I felt on that day: 

Leaving Oxford for London is an experience. It’s raining and my hair is pretty wavy/curly at the best of times. Good Start.

The Bus we were on took us through Mayfair (If anyone plays UK monopoly that is the dark blue really rich area - Yikes)

Finding a Bus from there to the club was an experience - Londoners are rude af. If you pulled the shit they did up here in the Scotland ...my god. First - turns out you cant buy two bus tickets on one card, and if you dont have contactless you are not getting on. Second - “You can get a ticket up there” is not helpful in the slightest when you don’t tell us where “Up there” is. Third - Yes I do have a Scottish Accent thank you for pointing that out I had never noticed it before.

Finally got a ticket and the correct bus let the good times roll.

Okay when we see the Hamilton Signs on the way back that’s where we get off the bus.

Those two girls at the front of the bus are going to the concert too I can feel it.

Finally found the club, and by found I mean walked round the corner.

I did say if you arent here early you are at the back.

Now we wait.

The Heart Get No Sleep - glaring grammatical error aside I love this. I don’t think my heart will be sleeping at any point soon either. Go Bill - you sexy dance/touch yourself on stage. Its all good from where im standing.

Better - Getting them Stormy Weather flashbacks. But this song just gets better the more I hear about it in the aftermath of the concert. No one liked you anyway indeed.

Cotton Candy Sky - I know something you dont know, people who werent in at soundcheck...just wait. Aaand there it is - that is Tom singing-ish. The Screaming shows the appreciation for this moment. Fun fact - this song has ended up really growing on me. I thought I would hate it! Im glad that I don’t.

We Found Us - I call Bullshit on that - I cant find any of my friends in this damn club. I have literally been pushed two rows back from where I started (honestly my view is better.) Still cant find my friends though. On the Upside I can see Gustav now! Look at the lil drummer boy go.

Easy - Now on the rest of the album the “getting high” references could possibly be interpreted as being high on life, or love - you know if you squint really hard and ignore context. But here literally “we smoked weed in the backseat of your car” there is no other way to interpret that one. So go with it! Im a Uni student, make your own assumptions about what I get up to.

Automatic - my love for this song knows no bounds. The KOS people look so happy - and possibly drunk. The tech peeps have very nicely turned down the sound for when Bill lets the girls sing. If I was up there I would appreciate it very muchly.

As Young as We Are- I adore this song - anything that says “So let us die!” is right on the money. Hit me with your tourbus on the way out please. “This is the last song” the fuck it is. You haven’t played the lead single that is a dead give away. You and every other band in the history of ever do encores - we know this.

I had a Scream upgrade and let me tell you, I could have left after the “Soundcheck” (Read: Private performance of a few songs) and been completely satisfied with the whole night. I would have considered it money well spent.

Now being in London I was not expecting there to be as many people as there were, and people showed up and bought tickets from the box office as we were standing there.
