Still Dealing w/ Reality Pt. 2
Just as Joshua was telling me that he wasn't going to make enough money to rent the U-Haul truck for our move out, I realized that I would be able to just take several boxes on my trip to Pomona, drop them off at the storage unit, & head back to my family's house to spend the remainder of my time with my son for the day. Monday is New Year's Day observed so it's a paid holiday which means that I don't have to go to work on Monday. For some reason, I kept thinking today was Tuesday, so I kept expecting that I was going to get paid, but no I forgot it's still Monday, which I'm not getting paid yet. I tried to get some things done, but i ended up not leaving the house until 1pm. I wanted to get laundry washed because this was going to be the last time we can get our clothes washed before we are out, so I took care of the dirty clothes as well as the few whites. I also got Lim's pillows from his basinet washed so they will be nice and clean when he gets to use them again at the family home.
I needed Joshua to help me with gas, so I had to take his debit card, run to the gas station to put some gas in, then run on back right after making a quick run to Burger King for him to get him some food because that was gonna be his only meal for the day. I didn't eat yet, so I know there is going to be food at the house, so I didn't have him get me any food at all. I rather him saved some money so that I could just have some free food at my family's home later.
It's supposed to be raining this whole week & it has been raining different times every day. Yesterday, it rained for a bit during the early evening while I was at the family's, but thankfully it stopped later on, so I didn't have to deal with it when I was driving Lim home. When I got to my family's home and had lunch, Lim was already passed out, so I was able to chill just for a little while, then I ended up passing out on the bed. The curtain rod had a missing screw that came off loose from the wall and the shit is just hanging off halfway on the wall. It's really annoying to look at, knowing that that shit can be pulled down by Lim each time he climbs up there to mess around the window area. I think it needs a new curtain and a whole new rod for that window.
My sister told me that the night before when she changed Lim's diaper and she ended up passing out an hour after, Lim came back and tried to wake her up. She couldn't understand why he wouldn't go to sleep, but he ended up breaking up into a bad diaper rash. It was so bad that it was hurting him when I kept trying to put diaper rash ointment on him. It sucks because my sister doesn't always change his diaper when she should so sometimes he ends up with bad diaper rashes when she's helping me watch him. Sadly, I don't have enough money to provide his food and me and Josh are suppose to be moving out anytime now from Beck Park Apts. so leaving Lim at my family's home was the best decision because he has everything he needs there regarding food and milk. I didn't even have money for jack shit. For that very same reason was why I felt that I had to take Lim home later on that night because it would've been difficult having to drop him off at the daycare the next day in the afternoon and then dealing with all the bullshit traffic and being in a rush if we had to get the move done. I'm most likely having to call off work in that case just to get the shit done, so I was really sad that I couldn't keep Lim until the next day. I wanted to take care of him and make sure he returns to his father in better condition, instead of having to deal with his father blaming me for being a bad mother every time something bad happens with Lim. My sister thinks and blames the quality of the diaper on his rashes, too. She said my mom use to buy me Huggies all the time when I was a baby, and I never broke out in any rashes even if she left the diapers on me long.
That's not supposed to be the point. The point is that my baby ends up getting bad rashes because my sister doesn't change his diapers often the way I do. I reminded her many times that he needs to be changed every 2-3 hours, but at the same time it's not really her responsibility in the first place. Other than that, my sister is really good with making sure he's fed. Poor Lim was in so much pain every time I was trying to put the ointment and spray on him, I felt so bad. It's not the first time he had a diaper rash, but those were one of the worst ones I seen on him. I know now that I will have to invest in good quality diapers for him especially if my sister ends up watching him so that it will reduce the chances of him having a break out like that again. It was all I can think about as I was driving him back to his father, dealing with the father's blame gets pretty damn old. He's still bitching about getting fully paid back for the daycare. He doesn't want to pull out Lim from daycare, he states that the program he's going through is really helping him, and he's still expecting that I help cover the cost regardless of how much I am struggling financially right now. Me & Josh just lost our apartment, but of course he doesn't know that. He thinks that I have moved back with my family all this time ever since I moved away from San Bernardino. I rather keep it that way until the day me and Josh either move out of state or if we actually got settled and found a permanent home to stay in for the remainder of our lives. I never wanted Ricky to know where I really lived, it's good enough he knows that my son is with my family most of the time.
Ricky is taking a 2 week vacation at the very end of February. What he's planning to do those 2 weeks, most likely going to go somewhere on a trip with Wilma so that they can take a break. He just told me that Lim will be staying with me at my family's the whole time, so that at least I'll be able to have a lot of time with my son during those times. I missed my son a lot. I didn't get to spend the time I wanted to with him as I should because of my housing situation. No matter how many times Joshua apologizes for making us homeless, the great news is that he found out about this app called WIN (What I Need) specifically that helps provides information and resources for people who are homeless in Los Angeles. One of the riders that Joshua took on his Uber trip, the rider was nice enough to give him info about that as well as telling us that in Malibu Beach where Joshua took me to show me where he filmed 'This Place Is a Prison' music video, they actually allow people to stay there and sleep in their cars as well as use the restroom and shower. I didn't know they had showers there, but apparently they do for the campers. The rider also stated that there's a Motel 6 in Thousand Oaks that has the cheapest rate to stay at for $55 a night, which isn't bad at all. The person stated that when they first came to Los Angeles, they were homeless as well until they were able to get on their feet. Joshua was looking up mobile homes in Bakersfield and even in El Monte. They were definitely cheap, but it will be hard for somebody to give us a chance since we have an eviction on our record now. Somebody out there should give us a chance especially if they desperately need money.

this has been a rough season for holidays, i think. mostly because of my mom (also partially because of my dad and the fact that he’s got a whole ass fiancee now that im still lowkey trying to come to terms with but). i haven’t seen her in months. before labor day, and now it’s thanksgiving. i don’t feel like im particularly missing out on anything really but its just kinda a bummer to have that sort of pressure and loss floating around during the holiday season, yaknow? i already kinda feel weird about the holidays at the age that im at now that my parents aren’t together but them not being together and me not talking to my mom kinda just exacerbates the whole thing.
the last time we texted was for me to ask her for a picture of my insurance card so i could go to the eye doctor, and that was the beginning of october. she hasn’t asked me about my thanksgiving plans, hasn’t invited me over, hasn’t said anything. and part of me feels like she’s waiting for me to reach out, which, well, i could, but like should i have to? i feel complicated about it. because the last extended interaction we had was a text conversation wherein i told her off for drunk texting me and being pissy about me not visiting her while im in town. i ended up ignoring her for a couple weeks until she texted again about my grandma and then i responded and told her she hadn’t heard from me because i needed space. and something about that makes me feel weird because she never said anything to it. like literally nothing. and i wonder if the reason (or, well, part of the reason) she hasn’t asked about thanksgiving is because she’s still trying to give me space?
that’s what half my heart says - the half that is probably thinking unrealistically about it. but the other half is much darker and says she hasn’t reached out because she doesn’t want to - she’s done, she’s fed up, she doesn’t want to see me for thanksgiving. maybe she ashamed? or irritated? or depressed? or maybe she really does has some misplaced sense of needing to give me space, i don’t know. it just makes me feel weird and twisty inside - like i need to reach out and if i don’t then this whole gap between us is my fault because i didn’t communicate the fact that she can reach out clearly enough. which sounds ridiculous now that i write it out.
like, it can’t be entirely my fault that we’re not talking because if she really wanted to see me, she would ask. i mean, she would, right? i think so? but she hasn’t so that raises the question... why doesn’t she want to see me? there’s some little girl inside of me that’s crying and seven years old and eleven years old and watching her mom leave her while she sobs and it’s making me sad. i shouldn’t be reflecting on this so late - i still need to shower and i have to get up early but fuck it’s hard not to think about when im alone like this.
i don’t miss the my mom of now. that’s the hard part to explain to people - my sister, my dad, my therapist. i don’t even really miss my mom of the past either, which is harder to explain. i miss my mom of the before. when things weren’t great but i was too young to realize that they weren’t great so it was fine. because now even positive memories i have with her have been tainted because i realize what was going on in the background (and, sometimes, even, the foreground). and now i don’t have any space to make new memories like that because it almost feels like our relationship has been irreparably damaged. like i don’t feel comfortable hugging her. i can’t speak freely. her home is not my home and she doesn’t know my friends or my classes or my people or me. and it’s like i don’t even get to teach her.
my best friends of 3 years still haven’t even met her. the friends she has met in the past (for the most part), im not even friends with anymore. she’s never been inside my car. she’s never seen me move in. she hasn’t met my roommates or been to campus or met my dads fiancee or this and this and this and that and it just feels like i am a new person. and yet it still feels kinda like she’s trying to fit me into this small box of her tiny girl and im just fucken not. im grown now. not really truly, but getting there.
i wish i had a better relationship with my parents. i know this post is about my mom but thinking about her makes me think about my dad because i miss the him of before too. i miss the him of the between - when things were good between him and i really felt like he was my rock but i also had almost all of his focus because he hadn’t met his fiancee yet. now it just feels like a competition that im losing.
god im spiraling. my chest feels tight and now im so much sadder than i was. i went to a friends house and hung out there for literal hours (a weird thing sense she lives with so many people and we almost always just hang at my house) and it was so quietly baffling to experience how welcoming and supportive her mom was. like she had her moms undivided attention whenever she wanted it. like yes they bantered and teased and bickered and it was fun and made me laugh a lot but her mom also listened to all her little pointless stories and even asked questions and she even turned to me and offered food and snacks and drinks and advice. like she literally sent me home with a container of rubbing alcohol because we spent 15 mins looking at my infected ears. she looked up piercing places online for me. she gave me food and care and obviously i didn’t say anything excessive then but now im literally crying about it and i would text my friend and tell her that her mom being nice really means a lot but me and her aren’t like that so i won’t. but i really hope she knows because it really does make a difference especially to me.
and now im crying.
there was a lady on campus giving out free mom hugs the other week before break and god when i say it stuck with me for days. i don’t even feel like i miss my mom because i don’t miss the her of now but i miss the her of before and i feel like i will truly never get that again and it breaks my heart every day. i miss my parents.

The arrival of dancers made the practice room even more crowded and noisy than usual. It was one of the few times Seventeen worked with an outside dance team, and they happened to have a lot of new faces around, who needed time to figure out the staging and how things were working so far.
After they ran through the choreography a couple of times, the choreographer called in a break, allowing the huge group to instantly clear the middle space and separate themselves into small circles of conversations.
Seungcheol, Jeonghan, and Joshua instantly met each other and began chatting about dinner plans and whatnot. Slowly approaching Jun and Wonwoo, the oldest filled them in on what they're deciding until he starts searching for someone.
“So, we could order it on the next break and have someone grab it for us. Anyway, did anyone see Hayun?”
“Making friends, as usual,” Wonwoo comments, pointing at the other corner of the room where the girl was surrounded by four dancers.
“Hayun-ah” The leader waves her over and waits as she jogs to his side “We're talking about dinner, what do you think about-”
“Oh, those guys were talking about this new restaurant that opened downtown, I was thinking of tagging along with them” She points back at the group and watches as her members nod “But I can cancel, of course”
“No, go ahead. It's just a meal” Joshua goes to wave her off when Seungkwan approaches them with crossed arms.
“Yeah. Just a meal. Until she's suddenly ditching us during the holidays and moving out with her new friends” The boy pouts, turning his face away from the group. Hayun reaches up to ruffle his hair before landing a soft slap.
“Says the dude who is friends with half of the entertainment industry” Ignoring his eye roll, she turns back to the rest of their little huddle “Well, if nobody else will feel betrayed”
“I was kidding” Seungkwan whines and Scoups pushes her away from them “Stop being dramatic and go do your mingling”
Going back to the group of dancers, Hayun resumes chatting with them for a couple of minutes before the break is over.
After more hours of running over every tiny detail for the stage, the rehearsal finally ends and the scattering of people begins. Hayun takes a couple of minutes talking about minor adjustments with the members and just checking up on them before searching for the four friends she had made that evening.
“Hey, how do you guys plan on heading there?” She asks, taking a sip from her water bottle and missing the glances between the two boys and two girls.
“Actually, we might have to do it another day,” The girl closest to her says and flips a hair strand off of Hayun's shoulder. “We got pretty tired from this last session”
“And work tomorrow it's going to start pretty early, you know. It's best to let this go for today,” The boy nods to her before pulling out his phone from his pocket and slightly turning away from the idol.
“Yeah, I get it. That's okay, we'll reschedule it then” Hayun smiles and gives them a thumbs up “I'll head to the dorms, then. Have a good rest, and tomorrow we'll talk more”.
Sending her some quick waves and small smiles, the four dancers waited for Hayun to turn around before sharing an annoyed look and sighing.
The practice room slowly grows empty, only leaving Wonwoo and Vernon who lost an incredible game of rock, paper, scissors, and had to stay behind to clean up everything. Finally turning off the lights, the two boys head out into the hallway and spot a group of four people standing by the entrance.
“Aren't those the people Hayun was talking to earlier,” Vernon asks quietly before a voice from the group reaches them.
“Why is this damn cab taking so long? We should have let that airhead tag along”.
“Agreed. She would have talked our ears off, but at least we would have made it to the club already”.
Sharing a look, the two idols stop walking and listen closely to understand if the dancers are talking about what the boys think they're talking about.
“That was so stupid. Why would you invite her in the first place? She's so annoying”.
“I mean, having an idol considering you a friend would be fun, right? Especially with the Christmas season coming up. Can you imagine the gifts she would buy us?”
“Yeah, dude. We wouldn't even need to worry about paying for stuff anymore. Just have Hayun tag along anywhere and, boom, no more tabs to pay.”
“But also, no more functioning eardrums”
“No, you have a point. She seems like she'd give us her credit card password on the third time we hung out. Not to mention, looking at her position in contrast with ours. You don't even have to befriend her, but be on her good side, and she'll make sure to give us more gigs within Pledis”.
Standing frozen, Wonwoo and Vernon listened to everything they were saying and shared looks of disbelief. Having enough of it, the oldest cleared his throat and slung his bag, making it hit his own back with enough force to make a thumping sound.
“Let's go, Vernon,” He ignored the four people standing before them with wide eyes and resumed walking. Once shoulder to shoulder with one of the dancers, Wonwoo stopped again and said while looking ahead, “Next time, be careful of whom you're talking about”.
Vernon, on the other hand, made eye contact with each dancer before raising one eyebrow and following the oldest. After closing the car door, he groaned annoyed, “Can you believe they had… ”
“… the fucking audacity” Jeonghan places his cup on the table, face showcasing utter disgust after Wonwoo told him what they had listened before leaving the Pledis building.
“Show me who those people are again tomorrow. I'll make sure they never step inside our practice room, ever again,” Hoshi points out.
“Is there a way of not having them tomorrow? I'm afraid Scoups Hyung might commit murder” Dokyeom brought attention to the leader standing on the corner of the kitchen.
Looking like he was plotting an illegal act, Seungcheol scoffs and pushed himself away from the cabinets. “The bare minimum you would expect from someone is that they can be professional. I swear, those people are getting an earful for talking about Hayun within a billion-meter ratio from where I work”.
“It's best to let it rest until tomorrow's performance is done. After we'll probably never see them again, so there's not much point causing any visible disturbance.” Laying a hand on the leader's arm, Woozi tried to make some sort of sense, but all it did was cause Scoups to roll his eyes.
“We can't just act like nothing happened”
“We also can't change anything about the choreography until then” Hoshi butts in and takes a breath trying not to jump in the 'let's hunt them down' train.
“They already know Wonwoo and Vernon heard them trash-talking her, so I'm not letting them have it easy tomorrow.” Jeonghan rolls his eyes and pointed to both Woozi and Hoshi, “I'm speaking my mind the first moment I see those sons of bitches, you're free to wait until the show's over”.
“About that, I don't think we should tell Hayun what happened” Joshua, who had been quiet the entire time, speaks, drawing attention to him. “Not until, as you said, the show is over, and we won't see them again. You know that she's probably going to get disappointed about it”.
“And you expect her to not go running to meet her new 'friends' once we arrive at the venue?” Wonwoo raises an eyebrow, but Mingyu shakes his head and backs the older up.
“We just have to keep her entertained around us. Fill in Dino, Seungkwan, and Myungho later, and have them help with making sure the group doesn't run into her”.
Raising his hand, Vernon casually mumbles “Maybe don't tell Seungkwan, he won't be able to hide his feelings about the whole thing”
“Myungho won't either” Jun comments and the room falls silent at the sound of the remaining members chatting and approaching the kitchen.
“Wow, you make a meeting and forget to call in the main characters” Hayun laughs walking through the room and opening the fridge for a beer “So, when's the food arriving?”
~
Hayun is sitting on the makeup chair, casually watching Scoups and Jeonghan whispering to each other from the mirror's reflection, when a hand lands on her shoulder and another holds out a smoothie for her.
“Whatcha thinking about?” Joshua sits on the chair next to her while Mingyu punctures the drink's lid with a straw.
Without taking her eyes off the mirror, she nods with her head to it. “Those two are up to something”
“Scoups and Jeonghan Hyung? Nah, they're always like that. Sharing secrets and stuff,” Mingyu giggles, shoving the straw inside her mouth and shifting to stand in front of the mirror. “Cute nail polish, when did you have time to get it done?”
“Oh, these are acrylics. This lady was just putting them on” Hayun falls into his trap and began analyzing the design with some occasional comments from the boys.
Peace has seemingly set inside the dressing room, yet it doesn't last long until Dino's loud “Uh?” caught the attention of the members, who turned to see what he and Vernon were doing.
Trying to shut the youngest up, Vernon makes it very obvious to the guys that he had just filled Dino in with the “frenemies” situation. Most of them try to brush it off and not bring more attention to it. Seungkwan, however, approaches them by, very loudly, asking what's up.
“What are you talking about?” He boringly fixes up his outfit. Vernon can feel the burning eyes of Jeonghan on his skull as he tries to deviate the conversation to another topic.
“Did you go see catering already? I heard they had a coffee machine”.
“Wait. Does he not know what happened?” Dino fails to read the room properly and instigates the older boy.
“What happened? Why is everyone sharing secrets all of a sudden? Is the thing you're discussing why Scoups Hyung seems ready to jump someone”.
The timing of events can't be worse, as the makeup artist taps Hayun's shoulder to let her know they were done. Within seconds, the girl gets up and turns to where the three youngest were standing.
“What's with the gossiping? Did Vernon lose his airpods again?” She brushes away from Joshua as he tried to hold her in place and waves off Mingyu when, in a panic, he suggests they should check out the pigeons outside.
“What? No! I mean, yeah! How unfortunate, isn't it?” Vernon jumps around his answers and tries looking for anyone willing to help him out.
“Just tell her about it” Approaching them from the door, Jeonghan, now without the leader's company, shrugs his shoulders, making Hayun raise an eyebrow.
“Jeonghan, at least wait until the day is over,” Joshua speaks through his teeth and the boy rolls his eyes.
“Well, she already knows something is up, and to be fair I don't know what good hiding this will bring. At least, if she feels like doing something about it, she'll have the chance right now”.
“Do something about it? Hadn't we agreed that the best is to wait until the performance is over and just never see them again?”
“What even are you talking about?” Hayun shuts them both up and Jeonghan and Joshua turned to her with annoyed expressions, “Don't even look at me like that. You're the ones mentioning me as if I'm not in the room”.
Placing a hand on her shoulder, Joshua tilts his head a little and speaks softly, “Trust me for a moment here, it's best if you brush it aside. Until later at least, and then we can settle it as you wish”.
“Wha- Just spill it out for fucks sake. I'm going to combust if you don't tell me right now whatever this all means,” Hayun puffs, punching his shoulder. Just as Joshua opens his mouth to say the same thing again, Jeonghan beats him and shoves himself in front of the girl.
“Do you recall those dancers you were planning to go out with yesterday? Yeah, well, turns out they're all little shits who were trash-talking you, and just overall talking crap, yesterday”
“Jeonghan” Joshua repressed the older who does nothing but wave him off.
“Doesn't matter what they said because you're nothing of it, and-” Adverting his eyes for a second, Jeonghan stares to the side, where half of Scoups' body is waving for him through the door. “And, and, you're amazing and all of that. So now go rest your awesome self while I go teach those punks a lesson”.
Zooming past her, Jeonghan runs to the door, where the leader is already back outside. Hoshi, Jun, Woozi, and DK, scream for him before also going out of the door. A very lost, Seungkwan, simultaneously tries to get Vernon to tell him what exactly the dancer said before while shouting for the older to wait for him to also speak his mind.
“I didn't want you to know about this before the performance, but-”
“Whatever, let's make sure nobody dies today” Hayun rolls her eyes and turns around, Wonwoo running from where he was watching everything and holding her by the shoulder.
“Do you want us to go fix that up? It's okay to give them the cold shoulder or just go off if you want to” Nodding, she keeps silent and walks out, bringing the rest of the guys behind her.
The8, who also had just found out about the situation, whispers to Vernon, “Can you believe they had the audacity?”
“I know, right?” The youngest whisper-yelled at him as they made it to the hallway and assessed the situation.
“The next time you even think about opening your mouth to talk about her-” Scoups had his finger pointing at the tallest dancer -who ironically had a few centimeters on him-, while the rest of the members stood next to him nodding and calmly listening to what the leader was saying.
“Oppa, just drop it,” Hayun shouts, walking past them and holding his shoulder.
Annoyingly, Scoups rolled his eyes and turned to her, “What do you mean, drop it?” Thinking for a second, he blinked and turned even more bothered, “Who even told you about this?”
The leader looked around until he found Mingyu, offending the tall guy who made an X in front of his body.
“Doesn't matter who told me. Let's just not lose time doing this” Brushing past him, Hayun now faced the dancers “Look, I'll teach you something right now, so grab it or drop it okay? I don't give a shit that you don't like me, or whatever, but at least be professional because all this situation did was teach me that none of you care about your careers. It's pretty clear by the angry puppy beside me that you just lost any chance of growing inside our brand, so keep this as a lesson and respect the artists you're working with. Also, once we're on stage put on a smile, so my fans won't be able to sense your shit”
“It should be pretty clear by what she said but you definitely don't have a chance to work with any Pledis artist again” Hoshi came from the end of the hallway alongside their manager and choreographer. The latter nodded and added.
“For the sake of the performance, you should all go back to your dressing rooms. You all said whatever was on your mind, so try to refocus during the last few minutes you have”.
“I didn't get to say what was on my mind” While the group was dispersing, DK mumbles on the side and Jun snorts.
“You had a chance, but all you did was stare at them and scowl until Scoups Hyung took the lead”
“I don't care about who said and who didn't say what they wanted” Hayun rolled her eyes, turning to the boys as they arrived in the room. Clasping her hands together, she brings them to her face and smiles, “You all care about me”.
“The fact you still doubted about it after years hurts me” Dokyeom held his chest and frowned, the girl laughs and goes to hug him.
“Group hug?” Seungkwan says uncertainly and Hoshi nods, dragging Woozi with him, “Group hug!”

As long as you could remember, Valentine’s Day was your favorite holiday. You just loved making cute valentine’s cards, colored paper hearts and making little mailboxes to put your candy in. Not only that, but you just loved your parents spoiling each other on that day whether it was doing cute things spontaneously or putting love poems on sticky notes every where around the house.
Valentine’s Day was just the day you wanted to be in love, but for the most part, you and your short term boyfriends never made it that long, so it was just mainly you working at schools, doing arts and crafts with the kiddos, spreading the love to them.
Today was different.
You invited all parents to come and help their child decorate their mailboxes, and you rescheduled any tasks or meetings that day as you wanted to spend the whole day visiting each classroom to see everyone’s progress and give candy out.
Wanting to spend the most time with Jules, you visited her classroom last. Her classroom was well decorated for the holiday. The color pink and red along with messages and puns about love and hearts were found everywhere.
Standing under the doorway, a smile appeared on your face once you saw Jules in Jungkook’s lap. She was laughing with her head tilted back as Jungkook traced his hand onto the cardboard mailbox. “Jungkook, why are you putting a hand turkey on our mailbox?!”
You talked to every student and parent in the class before taking a seat next to Jungkook. “I love the mailbox.”
“Do you want to put your handprint on it?” Jules asked as she put a heart shape lollypop in her mouth and snuck one into your pocket. “Me and Jungkook have more for you later, but don’t tell anyone.”
You smiled and grabbed a red marker from the table. “I would love to put my hand on the mailbox.”
“So I have some news,” Jungkook said as you pushed the marker lid off. “I have to leave a day early next week.”
Jungkook was going on a business trip overseas for a week, and during that week, Jules was going to stay with you. At first you didn’t understand why Jungkook was telling you, but once you realized it, you dropped the marker abruptly. “Wait, that means you won’t be able to be there with me when I meet the girls.”
“I’m sorry, but I promise Jin is going to make sure it all runs smoothly,” Jungkook reassured you, picking up the marker off the table. “We can wait till after you come back if you want.”
You shook your head, not wanting to wait any longer to meet them. It was bound to happen whether you liked it or not. “It’s okay.”
“Are you sure?” He questioned, raising his eyebrows.
“I promise.”
After school, you spent the rest of Valentine’s Day making blanket forts and watching movies with Jungkook and Jules, and you knew that you could never get tired of this.
___________
“Uncle Jin!” Jules excitedly jumped up and down as Jin bent down and wrapped her arms around her. “I missed you!”
“It’s not as if I didn’t see you a day ago.” Jin pulled away, smiling. “Your cousin is waiting for you in her room.”
Jules hurried off to take off her jacket and rushed upstairs. “So you’re first meeting Taehyung’s wife first, then Jimin’s and then mine,” Jin quietly explained as he took your jacket along with Jules to put it on the coat rack. “Tae dropped her off first, so you can warm up to her. Jimin’s on his way to drop off Seo-yeon, and Su-ji is still at work and has to pick up tonight’s dinner.”
He gestured behind him with his eyes where Tae’s wife, Ji-Ho was. You were surprised by her appearance. She looked like a normal human being when the boys had described her similar to the evil queen from Snow White.
"She doesn’t look scary at all,” you whispered in a hushed voice. “Why did you guys try to scare me?”
“Ji-Ho, this is Y/N, Jungkook’s girlfriend. Ji-Ho came early, and we’re just talking about a book idea she has,” Jin said in his normal tone, ignoring the comment you made. “She wants to write a book about being able to forgive and forget.”
Sitting next to Jin on his white loveseat, you looked and smiled at Ji-Ho who was on the white sofa across from you two, staring at carpet, not meeting your eyes. “I didn’t know you wrote books. Why do you want to write a book about that?”
“The world is a cruel place where people hold grudges over trivial and dumb things. They say they forgive, but never forget. Teaching others and helping them learn to do that will make it seem like you’re mature and able to have peace with yourself,” she explained, now playing with her hands in her lap. “Why hold grudges when you can move on and not give them the power to think about them?”
“I suppose that you can be happier just living your own life when you focus on yourself and forget and forgive.” Jin shrugged his shoulders.
“Do you think that people who can’t forgive and forget are unhappy people?” You asked.
“Excuse me?” Ji-Ho asked, finally looking at you.
“I think what she meant to say is-” You cut Jin off.
“Personally, I think you only need to forgive someone and come to terms that not everyone or everything is going to work out in your favor. Forgetting it is like running away from your problems. It’s not going to go away just because you ignore or forget the feeling; you just will experience it again.” You shrugged your shoulders as Jin muttered an ‘oh god we’re dead’ under his breath. He was shaking in fear, worried about what you were going to say next and afraid of Ji-Ho’s reaction.
Ji-Ho scoffed. “What do you think about forgiving and forgetting then? You think we shouldn’t forgive and we shouldn’t forget?”
“No, I’m not saying that, and I’m not saying that you’re wrong either because I don’t think we should hold grudges,” you said slowly. “But maybe you can forgive and accept, but you can’t forget, so you can be able to learn and overcome obstacles like that to be a better version of oneself.  Does that make sense?”
Ji-Ho scoffed, but this time, she smiled at you and looked at you with interest in her eyes. “What is your name again?”
“Y/N.”
“It’s nice to meet you.” She released a laugh, which startled Jin. “I think we’re going to get along perfectly fine.”
Ji-Ho did open up to you right away, talking about her interests and asking all about you as if she wanted to know every single detail. She was a lot like Taehyung, and you realized they truly were a perfect match for each other. They were both kind, observant and funny without even trying.
After twenty minutes, Seo-yeon and Su-ji arrived at the same time. Su-ji immediately went into the kitchen with some grocery bags as Seo-yeon took a seat next to Ji-Ho, smiling.
“Hi, how are you?” She asked, not giving you anytime to think or respond before talking again. “We heard so many great things about you, and I am so happy for Jungkook. It’s about time he finally found someone and that we’re able to meet her.”
Not knowing what to say, you laughed as your cheeks reddened. You weren’t really good at accepting compliments, but a part of you felt happy, knowing Jungkook was surrounded by people who loved him and wanted what was best for him.
“I got a charcuterie board for all of us,” Su-ji said out of breath, coming out of the kitchen. She placed the large plate on the coffee table in front of everyone and took a seat in between the other wives. “Hi, Y/N.”
Most of the dinner went well. It was basically like an interview where they were trying to see your strengths and weaknesses, but you still felt comfortable with them, talking to them.
“Can we see pictures of you and Jungkook?” Ji-Ho asked. You unlocked your phone and passed it to Jin’s wife as she sat in the middle and could show them. “It really sounds like you two are both happy and comfortable with each other.”
“It was really nice to meet you all,” you said as most of the plate was gone.
“You don’t have to lie to them,” Jin joked. “I know my presence is enough for you to enjoy.”
“No, I do mean it,” you reassured them just in case they didn’t take you seriously. “Jungkook talks about Jules and his support system all the time, and it warms my heart that you guys were there for both of them when they were struggling especially after their loss.”
“Oh?” The look of displacement was written all over Su-ji’s face. “You know about Sarah?”
“Yes,” you answered. “Is that a problem?”
“If you want me to be honest, I never thought Jungkook would see anyone after Sarah’s passing,” Jin’s wife absentmindedly said, thinking it was a compliment. In the corner of your eye, you can tell Jin was giving her a warning glare as if he didn’t want her to say anything else to you.
“Excuse me?” If she was trying to make you feel better about yourself, she was surely doing the opposite, but you hardened your face, so she couldn’t see that her words affected you. You knew that’s what she wanted, for you to be hurt. She wanted a reaction out of you, and you weren’t going to give her the satisfaction of getting it.
“You know, Y/N, from the way you talked about it, your relationship with Jungkook reminds me of Sarah and Jungkook’s relationship,” Su-ji said once she saw the picture Jules took of you and Jungkook laying down, cuddling in the blanket fort during New Years.
Although hearing the name of Jules’s mother made your heart drop, you kept your poker face on and continued to act like everything was okay. With confidence, you raised your eyebrows. “I’m not sure what that means.”
“Jin and I actually grew up with Sarah and Jungkook. We always went on lunch dates together while we were still in school,” Su-ji explained with a murderous smile on her face. “Kook’s a romantic, isn’t he? Opening the doors, cooking home-cooked meal, giving his jacket when it’s cold, and writing songs and poems weekly? He did that all the time for girls when we were younger. He did that for Sarah too.”
Your face softened at what Su-ji listed. They were all things he had never done for you, and you couldn’t tell if that was a good or bad thing. Did he want to do something new and fresh with you? Or did he just not put in effort and care?
Most of it wasn’t a big deal. There was nothing wrong with opening the door yourself and being prepared for cold weather. You could have easily just asked Jungkook for a piece of his clothing if you had wanted to. But the thing that bothered you the most was in a span of months, Jungkook has never written anything for you.
He was a songwriter, but somehow, he didn’t have any words for you.
You knew Su-ji was hurting your pride on purpose, but for some reason, you let her continue and listened to every word she had to say. She stared at the pictures on your phone. “The way he looks at you is almost identical to the way he looked at Sarah.”
“Su-ji...” Jin warned. “Stop now.”
"It’s almost as if you were Sarah.” Her sharp words cut like a knife. If it weren’t your phone that started ringing in her hands, you would have cried on the spot. You felt a little better seeing Jungkook’s name on your screen. “Oh speak of the devil.”
“Why don’t we call it a night? I’m sure Y/N needs some rest.” Jin suggested as you stared at your phone. “How about you girls go clean, I’ll go get the kids, and Y/N, stays here to talk to Jungkook?”
The girls, one by one, got up from the couch with their plates, heading towards the direction of the kitchen. As they left, each one of them gave you a look. Jin’s wife gave you a look of resentment, Jimin’s wife gave you a look of pity, and Tae’s wife gave you a look of worry.
You slid your thumb on the screen and answered Jungkook’s call. “Hey. What’s up?”
“How are you, darling?” His honey voice made you want to cry. All you wanted was to cry your heart out and have his voice and touch comfort you, but he was the reason why you wanted to cry. “Doing okay?”
“Yeah, the dinner went terrific. I really liked tonight,” you lied, trying not to let your voice crack. “I’m actually not feeling so well, so I’m leaving early with Jules in like five minutes.”
“Are you sure you’re okay? It sounds like you want to cry?” He could read you so easily. “Is something wrong? If something is wrong, I can take the next flight and be back with you as soon-”
“Everything is fine. Jules and I are fine.” Lie once again. “Please don’t worry.”
Jules came down the stairs, holding hands with Jin. She ran towards you with a smile on your face, cheering you up a little bit. “Is that Jungkook?”
“Do you want to talk to him?” You asked, and she shook her head. “Kook, I’m going to help Jules get ready to go home, and I’ll call you back once we’re there. Is that alright?”
“Yeah, of course. Drive home safely, okay? I miss you.”
“I’ll talk to you later.” You hung up the phone.
Jules put her arms out once she saw you grab her red winter coat from the armchair. As you helped her put her jacket on, you hear distant arguing.
“What were you thinking, Su-ji?! You had no right to do that! That behavior was unacceptable and immature of you.” Jin whispered as he scolded her.
“What are you talking about?”
“Talking about Sarah and Jungkook like that! Making Y/N feel bad when she did absolutely nothing to you. He paused. “Sarah might have been your best friend, but she would have been extremely disappointed in how you treated Jungkook’s girlfriend.”
“I don’t need a lecture from you, Jin,” Su-ji snapped. “I personally do not think I do anything wrong!”
“I wouldn’t even be having one if you had behaved like an adult!” He argued back. “Even Ji-Ho didn’t say anything degrading about her. She actually liked Y/N and she usually hates everybody at first.”
 “Don’t you think she deserved to know? All I did was tell her the truth!”
“You didn’t help her!” Helping Jules put her black hat on, you tried to listen to more of their conversation. “You’re unbelievable. I am furious with you.”
“Sleep on the couch then if you just want to defend her instead of me.”
“If something happens between them because of this, I will never forgive you.”
It doesn’t take long for Jin to come back to the living room with a forced smile on his face. He went closer to where you and Jules were at, bent down, grabbed the white gloves and helped Jules put them on her hands.
“Jules, honey, aren’t you going to say bye to your favorite Uncle Jin?” You asked. “Thank him too.”
“Thank you Uncle Jinnie for the food and hugs.” She wrapped her arms around him, instantly, making him smile. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Sweetie.” He let go of Jules and stood up, making eye contact with you as you put your jacket on. “I’ll walk you out.”
____
[seokjin]
i want to apologize for su-ji’s behavior. i should have stopped her, and i am sorry. you didn’t deserve that. i know you’re going to tell me that it’s okay, but save it. it really was not okay
you know what su-ji said isn’t true right?
jungkook only loved sarah as a sister
he didn’t love her like he loves you
i promise
It took you a while to respond to Jin’s text. You wanted to believe his words because he knew Jungkook better than anyone, but his wife’s words kept repeating in your head.
It’s almost as if you’re Sarah.
did he tell you that?
that he loved me differently than sarah?
He didn’t respond, and what you’ve learned in the past is that sometimes no answer is an answer.
___
"Why do you like me?” Jungkook was coming back tomorrow, and before his flight, you called him randomly. “Why me? Out of all people? I’m nothing special.”
“What are you talking about?” Jungkook asked. “Don’t say things like that. That’s not true.”
“I mean, come on, when you got to know me, I didn’t have a rough upbringing or had a special talent that made me stand out from others. I was just an ordinary person with parents and a few friends.”
As you waited for an answer, you opened your laptop and went onto a social networking website. Sighing, you looked up the one person that was on your mind lately ever since the dinner at Jin’s.
“You talk about how I’m so passionate about my dream and how I’m so amazing for growing up and taking care of Jules, but I think about you like that.”
“How so?” You breathed out, barely audible.
“Like I know it’s your job to take care of the kids and to make sure everyone is learning, but you take the time to connect with others and strive to make everything better is amazing.”
Sarah’s profile finally loaded onto your screen. Her profile picture was her and Jules, smiling on a park bench. Scrolling down, almost all her public and tagged pictures were with Su-ji and Jin’s family, celebrating almost every little occasion together. “Really?”
“And I know you want to take care of everyone and you’re okay with being by yourself, but I hope you know that there are people in the world who do care about you and will care about you.” His comforting words made you want to cry. “I care about you.”
Before you could say anything, the last picture you stumbled across on was a picture of Sarah and Jungkook together at her graduation. Sarah was wearing her cap and gown, holding a bouquet of roses in her hand. She had the biggest smile on her face as she looked up at Jungkook, who was in the middle of laughing. Although this picture of old, Jungkook almost looked the same and had the same features. The only difference was that he never looked quite as happy with you.
“Are you okay?” Jungkook asked, bringing you back to reality. “What’s up?
Clearing your throat, you answered, “Yeah. I just was thinking.”
“I also love everything about you, you know? I love how you have a different, but such an understanding perspective about literally anything,” he said. “You’re special.”
“I hope so.”
“I’m going to sleep now. I’ll talk to you tomorrow, okay?” You hung up the phone without saying anything, still staring at the picture of Jungkook and Sarah.
“What are you doing?” A gasp came out of your mouth as you shut the laptop lid as quickly as you could and turned your head to see Jules behind you. The look of confusion was all over her face along with heartache. “Why were you looking at pictures of my mom?”
“I’m not!” You denied, putting the laptop onto the table. “Are you okay? Do you need anything?”
“You were.” She ignored your question, wanting actual answers. “I saw you.”
She took a seat next to you, looked at your for a long time and looked down at her fingers in her lap. “I know it’s been a long time, but I know what my mom looks like, and I know you were looking at her.”
“Honey-” Jules ran up the stairs, not hearing your explanation or excuse.
__
“I missed you so much.” The moment Jungkook saw you in the airport, he ran as fast as he could with his silver carry on suitcase, wrapping his arms around you. It was the tightest hug you’ve ever received, and you never wanted to let go. “I missed Jules too, but I really missed you.”
He pulled away and saw the tiny red bag in your left hand. “I got you a gift for White Day.”
“You didn’t have to.” Wrapping his arm around your shoulder, you two walked slowly towards the exit. “Is this really for White Day?”
“What else would it be for?”
“A gift for being insecure?”
You stopped in your tracks, and he took it as a sign to let go of you. “What?”
“Well, I don’t know what to think when you asked me things I liked about you, and then Jules telling me you were looking up Sarah.” Not wanting to meet his stare, you continued looking down at the ground at your feet. Once you looked back up, he saw the guilt in your eyes. He scoffed and rubbed under his nose in disbelief, taking your silence as his answer. His tone of voice changed. “I can’t believe you.”
“Why does it bother you, Jungkook? Maybe I was just curious. Is that so wrong?”
“Except you weren’t! You and I both know that!” His voice grew louder with each word he said. It was the first time he was raising his voice at you, and it was a surprise. He was always the one who always kept calm in the most heated situations. “I told you everything about Sarah.”
“Not the fact that she was head over heels for you!” You cried.
“Oh my god. Is this what this is about? You wanted to see if Sarah was in love with me?” He shook his head. This wasn’t the Jungkook you knew; he was acting different. “Who even told you that?”
“Does it really matter?” You stared at him. “I was bound to find out sooner or later.”
He shook his head. “No one looks pictures of dead strangers unless they want to know something.”
“Fine! I just wanted to know if what the girls said was true. They said that you two were madly in love. They said I was practically a replacement for Sarah.  I just had to find out if it was true.” You paused when Jungkook looked away, not wanting to look at you. Not only that, but you noticed there were tears that were about to fall from his eyes. “She was beautiful and looked so happy with you. You looked happy with her too.”
Silence.
“Seokjin told me that you didn’t love her.”
Silence.
“Is that true?”
Silence once again.
“Jungkook, I can’t compete with her.”
He finally looked back at you and grabbed your hands. “I’m not asking you to.”
“I can’t do this,” you cried, pulling away. “I want to be with you and want you to want me because you love me. Not because I remind you of the girl who isn’t here anymore.”
“Don’t do this,” he whispered. “Don’t say that.”
“Do you realize how badly it hurt when they told me that?” Sobbing, you covered your mouth holding back any ugly sounds you were going to produce. “I was humiliated and felt like I would never measure up.”
“You are more than good enough.”
“What am I supposed to think when they told me that?”
“Believe me and Seokjin when I say that I have feelings for you.” You knew he was trying to comfort you, but you noticed that he didn’t straight out admit that he didn’t have feelings for Sarah.
“You’ve never written me a song,” The color drained out of his face as he heard your voice crack; you got your answer. There were tears falling down your face, but he didn’t wipe them like he always did when you cried after watching sad movies. “You have never written me anything.”
He let go of your hands.
You walked away, and he didn’t even come after you. __

Seven Days
Tumblr media
Summary: The Clique's Six annual reunion is coming up and so are a lot of secrets and changes. Can one week bring friends closer together, or further apart? Find out in Seven Days, based on the Mary J Blige song. Rucas Centric. Joshaya; Smarkle;
Word Count: 2,190
Chapter 1:  A Friend of Mine
MONDAY
She tossed the thin dark purple cardigan on and listened to Maya rant about the inconvenience of their impromptu reunion. Riley giggled as Maya waved off a euphemism about Farkle and Isadora flying in late that evening. Riley grabbed her keys and shuffled Maya towards the front door. Maya groaned and leaned back into Riley’s arms purposely making it hard for the bubbly brunette to move her.
“Maya,” Riley chastised and the blonde smirked.
“Oh come on Riles, do we really need to go get party supplies? It's just us six!” Maya groaned.
“Maya it's been a year since all six of us were together! Aren’t you excited to see our friends?” Riley pouted.
“Yeah, I guess,” Maya said and rolled her eyes.
Riley knew it was a front, and that Maya was just as excited as she was. Despite being close the clique six had spread out across the continent for college. Maya and Riley stayed true, and both got into NYU. While Riley went to Steinhardt for English Education, Maya found her calling at Tisch for Collaborative Art. Although in different programs, they became roommates in a cramped two-bedroom, a gift from their parents. Their friendship never wavered and if anything it got stronger over the last few years. As their junior year ended they wanted to celebrate with their best friends. In just mere months they would be college seniors, and then off to more school or careers.
“Farkle got us a suite,” Riley teased and Maya grinned.
“A suite? Okay, Minkus, guess that business degree is working after all,” Maya mused and stood up straight.
As the girls found their place at NYU, Farkle and Isadora found their place at Stanford University. Although Princeton University was their goal, they both realized the move across the country would do them good. It was no surprise that both of them had done well successfully that they were graduating before their friends. Farkle in the fall will be attending Stanford Graduate School of Business and Isadora will start her Ph.D. program in Neuroscience. Another reason for their motley crew of friends to come together.
“It's more like a graduation gift from his parents,” Riley said and led Maya out of their apartment.
“I can't believe those two geniuses are already going to their second degrees, I barely think I am going to make it out of my bachelor’s,” Maya groaned as Riley locked the door.
The two linked their arms together and Riley giggled.
“Maya you're doing great in school, As and Bs,” Riley exclaimed.
“It's only because I am actually interested in school now, why couldn't we just jump to college?” Maya asked as they walked down the stairs.
“That's not how life works,” Riley said as they left the apartment building.
Loud city noises blare down the streets and the crowds shuffled through masses of New Yorkers. Both girls leaped into the mass and followed the flow down the street.
“I hope Party City isn't crowded,” Maya said as Riley smiled brightly.
A benefit of having an apartment in Union Square was that everything was close by to them. They could pop in, get some supplies and grab lunch all within walking distance.
“I doubt it, no major holidays, just some graduations in a few weeks,” Riley said.
“So … we talked about Smarkle, is there a particular someone you would like to talk about before we see them?” Maya teased.
“Zay? I heard he might double major,” Riley shrugged.
“What is he? Can he?” Maya asked as Riley nodded.
“I mean he is a dance major, maybe he wants to do something in that field but more,” Riley said.
“Sounds like a lot,” Maya mused.
“I know but it's Zay, and Duke is letting him do it, why not take advantage?” Riley said
Zay’s college choice was a surprise to all of them. They knew Zay was eclectic and loved to do different things, but they all assumed he would go back to Texas. He threw them for a loop when he decided to go to Duke University in North Carolina for Dance. They knew he liked ballet but didn't think he would take it on as a major.
“Wait! You deflected! You know who I was talking about Riles. A certain cowboy down in Texas,” Maya teased.
Lucas.
Lucas’s choice was no surprise to Riley, she knew what he was interested in since they were in the seventh grade. So when he announced he was going to Texas A&M Riley was excited for him no matter what. They decided it was in their best interest to break up and stay as friends. Allowing one another to explore these new waters without being weighed down by a significant other. However, it didn't matter to Riley as she never found anyone to match Lucas on any level. Sure she went on dates and flirted around, but nothing was serious. No one was able to make her feel like he did.
“Lucas?” Riley asked.
“You said Huckleberry’s name, that's a big step for you,” Maya said with a grin.
“I always say his name, it's you who insist on these nicknames, Maya we’re twenty-one now. Don't you think it would be a good time to drop the nicknames?” Riley asked.
“What and miss out on annoying moral compass, do you know me Riles?” Maya fake gasped and Riley chuckled.
“Yes I do, and to answer your question, there’s nothing to talk about, Lucas and I are friends, with the exception of Smarkle, we are all friends,” Riley said and directed Maya into Party City.
“You two were always more than just friends,” Maya said as Riley dragged her towards balloons.
“Why are we getting party supplies again?” Maya groaned.
“Well while we are just becoming seniors, Farkle and Izzy are graduating. I thought it would be nice to have something like a little congratulations thing during our reunion,” Riley said as she perused gold and silver balloons.
“Do we have to get gifts?” Maya asked.
“I’m getting them cards, and I got them each something small, just a congrats thing. You don't have to, you know how I feel about gift-giving,” Riley said with a smile.
“You love it you fruit loop, I guess I’ll look for something here,” Maya sighed and followed Riley down the aisles.
As the girls scoured the store for supplies, they kept the conversation light about their friends. Catching one another up on information to prepare for the annual reunion. Maya laughed as she picked up small party favors and found two keychains for her friends.
“Look one for each of them, the dollar sign for Farkle, and the brain for Izzy,” Maya said as she jingled them.
Riley playfully rolled her eyes and smiled at her best friend. However, she knew the two would love Maya’s gift and treasure it because that is what friends do.
“I have a special order to pick up,” Riley said as she walked towards the counter.
“Special? Oh, Riles, what did you do?” Maya asked as Riley talked to the cashier.
Riley emptied her basket of balloons, candy, and streamers. She smiled as the cashier revealed a bag with Stanford University decorations.
“Of course,” Maya said.
“It's going to be so much fun,” Riley said as the cashier rang up her things.
“Fruit Loop, look I am going to the other cashier to pay for this, don't get any more supplies,” Maya chastised as she walked away.
Riley playfully rolled her eyes once more and smiled as the Cashier scanned the items. Riley’s eyes caught a glimmer of gold and she saw a gaudy gold plastic necklace with a horseshoe. She bit her bottom lip in complementation and took the plunge.
“Could I get that too?” Riley said as she pointed to the necklace.
The cashier rang it up and gave her the total. Riley swiped her card with no hesitation and smiled as she was handed the bags. Maya had sauntered over with her small bag and raised her eyebrows.
“Got everything?” Maya asked as Riley nodded.
Riley sat at her desk as she edited her final paper for class. One click and she would officially be done with her junior year. However, she couldn't stop herself from continuously changing the ending. Something felt off, and she didn't know what it was. She glanced at the clock and saw it was well past 11:00 PM, and she was exhausted. She rubbed her eyes and stifled a yawn.
Her phone vibrated and she glanced at it. It was a text but who it was, surprised her. She didn't know why he would text her so late but he had to have a reason. Sure they chatted outside the group chat but it was mundane, and not so late.
Lucas: Hey you up?
Riley: Unfortunately, is everything ok?
Lucas: Yeah can I call?
Riley hesitated but ultimately confirmed that he could. Before she knew it, her phone was ringing in her hands. As she took a deep breath she picked up the call.
“Hey,” She whispered.
“Hey,” Lucas responded.
“Hey,” She repeated.
“I thought we grew out of that,” He chuckled.
“I thought so too,” Riley said as she leaned back in her seat.
“Sorry to call so late it's almost midnight over there right?” He asked.
“Yeah but it's fine I was up, I was working on my final paper,” Riley said as she scrolled through the document.
“Riley Matthews hasn’t finished her homework, oh no the world is ending,” He joked.
“Oh stop it, I have till tomorrow midnight to submit it but I wanted it done before … the reunion,” Riley said.
“That's the Riley I know, am I interrupting? Do you want to finish it?” Lucas asked as he cleared his throat.
Riley paused and leaned back in her chair. A part of her did want to finish the paper, but the other part of her wanted to know why he called, especially this late.
“I think my brain is fried, I know something is wrong, I just can't put my finger on it, I can talk. What's up?” Riley said as she tried to make her voice sound light.
“I kind of wanted to hear your voice,” Lucas said, his voice deepening.
“My voice?” Riley questioned.
“Yeah … I just needed to hear it. Talking to you has always been easy Riley, and I thought I would call one of my best friends,” Lucas said.
Riley could tell something was wrong, but just like her paper, she couldn't put her finger on it. She twirled some hair around her finger and listened to him.
“What did you want to talk about? Tomorrow?” Riley asked.
“I’m excited to come home,” Lucas said and Riley could feel her heart race slightly.
“Texas isn't home?” Riley asked.
“No it isn't, not when everything I love is back in New York,” Lucas said
“Like your friends,” Riley said.
“Yeah but a particular one in mind. Plus I wouldn't feel so lost, and I think … I need to be found” Lucas said his voice lofty and Riley bit her lip.
“Are you okay Lucas, you sound … off,” Riley asked as he chuckled.
“You definitely know me the best, yeah I’m good, I had a drink and I think … it's getting to me. Don't mind me, I’m sorry for interrupting. Goodnight Riley,” Lucas said and hung up the call before Riley could say anything.
Riley looked at the phone puzzled at what just happened. She thought about waking Maya but she decided against it. Instead, she crafted a long but well-intended text to the Texan. She needed him to know she wasn't judging him and that she was there for him.
Riley: Hey, you sounded off. I know you said you drank but, it didn't seem like that was what was going on? You know you can talk to me always if you want to call back we can talk about what's bothering you. I hope you're okay Lucas, I’m always here for you.
Riley sent the message and returned to her paper. She glanced at her phone every few seconds and waited to hear it vibrate back but it didn't. She sighed and started to type up her conclusion, so she could finally finish her paper. As she saved the document and uploaded it to her college portal, she checked her phone. Still nothing. As she submitted the paper, she got up from her seat and went to the bathroom to do her bedtime routine.
Lucas crossed her mind with each task, and she wondered if tomorrow it would be easier to talk. She hoped all was alright, and she wished he would have told her what's wrong. As she finished her routine she bounded for her room. She flicked her light off and crawled into bed exhausted from the day. She grabbed her phone to plug it in to charge when she saw a new alert. She swiped through to see a response from Lucas.
Lucas: I love you.

Four Seasons With You
Volume one: Chapter 1- Spring
Easter Egg Hunt
Pairing: Victor x Mc
Summary: When an unexpected inconvenience gives you the opportunity to make this day unforgettable for him.
Tumblr media
“I’ll see you later.” You chriped on a sunny morning. Basically hopping in front of him, you placed a gentle kiss on his lips before parting.
“So cheery today and the day barely started. Does a certain dummy has something in her mind?” Victor hooked his arm around your waist, giving you another kiss on the forehead. “Oh, it’s nothing, just springtime.” You smiled at him. “And it’s also Easter.” You added. He nod reminding himself about the holiday. Today he was supposed to be at home with you enjoying each other’s company. You made him promise you because he is on his day off he won’t look at any document nor report. He is yours only.
But last night in some ungodly hour, the management crew gave him a call, about some hiccups what occurred with the overseas department. The negotiation to collaborate with the new American company took a bad turn and they refused to do anything further if they can’t talk with the CEO of LFG. So it meant he has to go in for an impromptu meeting.
“I’ll make it up for you when I’ll get back.” He pulled you close again, hinting another soft kiss on your temple. It was still early in the morning. He tried to get up beside you without disturbing your sleep, but when you didn’t feel his warmth anymore, you woke up and followed him to the kitchen. You shook your head in refusal. “Don’t rush the meeting because you want to get back home earlier for me. Take your time I know you were in contact with this company for a long time. I’ll see you when you finished.” You smiled at him.
You know this deal can benefit LFG’s future in the overseas market. So of course you don’t want this to end badly because of some holiday. “Even though it means two batches of pudding.” The sweet smile on your makeup free face turned into a mischievous and greedy grin. “Such a dummy. Always thinking about her stomach.” He murmured pretending to be annoyed, but you knew this man long enough to know he will grant your wish. “When I get home I better not see chicklets, bunnies and an idiot running around the house.” With that he closed the door behind him and left.
While you made yourself a light breakfast, what only contained toast and eggs, your mind was furiously racing on how to spend the time while waiting for your boyfriend. As you kept musing on the possibilities on how to spend the day, you gradually remembered the little surprises you left in Victor’s office while you waited for him to finish his meeting a couple days back. A prankish smile tugged on your lips. Shoving down the remaining bites of your meal, and taking a few more sips of the coffee you hurried away to get dressed.
Walking in the step in closet you chose a casual wear for the day. Pushing and flipping the hanged up clothing articles you eventually found a nice beige colored dress among the many formal and ridiculously expensive clothings. When you became Victor’s partner and after the media acknowledged this information you got invitations to balls and fancier parties. It was a natural requirement you had to look high class just like him. Your boyfriend mercilessly spoiled you rotten with fancier and fancier dresses, personally tailored to your sizes by the finest taylors he could find. As the collection grew, it swallowed all your older clothes. The dress you posed with in front of the body sized mirror was like a scavenger hunt amongst the many night gowns and suit dresses.
Quickly putting on your chosen outfit, you left the penthouse in a hurry, barely being able to snatch your purse on the coat hanger. You were having an intense race with time. To not blow up your sudden Easter surprise you tried to do the shopping as quickly as possible. You don’t know when Victor comes home so it added another reason to make this fast.
***
“Goldman, the management team better have a good reason to call me in, because I have a better place to be today.” Victor’s stern voice echoed through his office the moment he stepped in. Several moments of keyboard clicking later Goldman began with his speach.
“The possible partner we are trying to convince suddenly got a more appealing offer from a different company. The deal was that the company will sponsor them PR commercials and advertisings, they can keep their position in the stock market and can have sixty percent of the income.” He said, flipping back and forth on the tablet.
“I see.— Victor rested his chin on his hands— “Remind me please about the deal LFG offered.” The assistant cleared his throat, opening the files what contained the agreement. “Comparing to the new proposal our offer is lacking. Because of their crash in the marketing area lately, you decided to not offer munch in case the collaboration would backfire.” After minutes of thinking, what felt like centuries Victor finally spoke up.
“Rewrite our proposal. Tell them LFG will ensure their stay in the stock market, and will back it up if any unpleasant problmes happens. Also mention they have a two months recovery time and we will give one hundred percent sponsorship with the possibility to function as an independent company like Kiseki Entertainment. This is the best deal they can get and they know it.”
From the very first moment, Kiseki Entertainment functioned independently. Under his guidance, you bloomed into a successful company in barely two years, becoming one of the most productive investments amongst the very few freelancers under LFG. “Arrange an online meeting in twenty minutes. During that, — he stood up, to make his way to one of the conference room— “collect informations about our opponent what can be used for LFG’s advantages.” Goldman nodded already holding his phone to his ear, summoning the staff needed for the conference.
“Anything else you want t— is that an Easter egg?” Goldman pointed at the bunch of tiny colorful eggs scattered around the coffee table. The more he looked the more he noticed. On the shelves, between Victor’s compture, on the coat hangers.
“Goldman who was the last person in my office?” He asked, walking around removing the candy eggs from their places.“Until this morning no one was in here. A few days ago only Ms. Mc stayed here, waiting for you to finish the meeting.”
Victor sighed.
Of course it was you.
***
You looked at the row of numbers at the screen, your purse, and then the ridiculous amount of Easter eggs piled up behind you. Maybe you carried away a little bit.
“Uh, excuse me for a second.” You kept digging in your purse in hope you will find your credit card. After minutes of unsuccessful searching you started to panic a little.
Your plan was to buy plenty of Eggs and hide them all around the mansion. You bought chocolate eggs and plastic eggs in all sizes and colors. Also a pink rabbit onesie because you couldn’t insist. You just didn’t expect the price what came with it.
“I’m sorry Miss, but you are keeping up the row. Do you wish to purchase these items?” The cashier lady asked what made you squeak and panic more. “Please debit these items on Victor Li’s account!” You blurted out. The cashier nodded typing away the informations. “Everything is settled, have a pleasant Easter.” The lady smiled handing you the bags. Thanking her and wishing for the same you made your way home. If you knew ypu will end up with multiple bags you will take the car.
“I’m back.” You opened the door of the house placing the bags on the floor. A small meow eachoed at the corner, a cat trotted towards you. “Hi Pudding, mommy is back.” You bent down to pick up the cat, a light huff leaving your lips. “Victor feeds you too well.” You giggle pocking at the fat at the cat’s belly. “I will bring some Easter spirit into this big house will you help me?” Like the animal just understood you, Pudding meowed and with a hop she escaped your embrace and walked away. Lazy cat.
Shrugging it off you unpacked and stared to hide all the eggs around the house. In the kitchen, the coffee table, the couch, hangers, in his suits. In other words you hide them everywhere you found it suitable. Now all you had to do is wait for his return.
***
Several hours passed, the sun was about to go down when he finally came home. Tossing away the book you were reading, you jogged to the entrance to greet him. “Welcome home!” You smiled at him, what left your face in a second. “Is everything alright at LFG?” You furrowed your eyebrows in conern when you saw his expression. “Sorry for keeping you waiting.” He said. “Nothing is wrong, my plans just takes a little more time to be accomplished.” Victor pulled you to his side, giving a kiss on the top of your head. “Let me make up for you with a dinner. It’s your call, I’ll make you anything.” He unbuttoned the sleeves of his shirt and rolled it up while walking in the kitchen.
“Pudding!” You smiled, Victor rolled his eyes at your remark. “Dummy, you want pudding for dinner?” He asked opening the fridge. “What is that?” He held a green chocolate egg in his hand. “Ah, I see. We are mischievous today.” A smile crept up on the corner of his lips, putting the sweet aside. “So I assume the plenty of chocolate in my office was your doing too.”
“I have no idea what are you talking about.” You shuffled away. “I didn’t do anything.” He chuckled. “Of course you didn’t, those eggs are from the Easter Bunny. So what do you like to eat?” He asked again getting the pots and pans ready. Without a word he put another handful of eggs aside, making it harder for you to comtain the fit of laughter what is about to erupt from your chest.
“Beef ribs would be fine.” You composed yourself. Victor nodded and began to prepare the dish. “So tell me, what were you doing all day?” He asked putting away another egg when he opened the cabinet where the seasonings were. “Aside from scattering sweets all over the kitchen.” A soft giggle left your lips. “Just the usual. I cleaned up, fed the cat. You knows, the things I usually do.” You chatted nonchalantly, like having Easter eggs around the house is ordinary.
“Why you are so clingy all off a sudden?” He lookes at you in confusion when he notices you are following his every step with your eyes. “What? No, I’m not!” You grinned, getting more eager every time he found an egg.
But what you didn’t know that the more he found the more annyed he got. He saw Easter eggs everywhere. On the kitchen counter, in the fridge, on the cabinets even in the cat bowl. But he didn’t have the heart to tell you. You waited for him all day so he can bear with your pranks a little longer.
He didn’t know what will coming.
“The ribs are almost ready.” He closed the oven after flipping them in the pan. “It’s smells so good.” You hummed, mouth already watering just from imagining how smoothly you knife will slide through the juicy ribs.
“I’ll go set the table.” You hopped down from the barstool and opened one of the cabinets to get the plates. While you clattered with the utensils, Victor opened his phone to check the notification he got from his bank during the meeting. The numbers he saw is what made him finally snap.
“What did you do?!” He exclaimed, looking at you, eyes wide as saucers. His sudden harsh tone startled you, almost making you drop the plates you balanced in your hands. “$150?! What did you buy?!” He questioned, his eyes shooting daggers at you. He sighed. “Don’t tell me all that were for chocolate eggs! Are you out of your mind?” He raised his voice at you, his eyes casting a frightening shade. The last time he looked at you this way when you barged in his office, demanding for funding. And that was many years ago. You flinched under his cold stare.
“I’m sorry.— you put everything in your hands down— “I-I’ll go clean that up.” With that you left the kitchen, and disappeared at the corner.
“Mc, wait.” He called after you, immediately regretting the way he spoke to you. A wave of guilt went over him when he caught up to you in the living room. Like you said, you obediently rummaged around to find the eggs. And it would be fine if you wouldn’t sniffling quietly, occasionally reaching up to wipe your eyes. And he hates it when you cry. And despise it if he’s the reason behind your tears. He didn’t mean to be this harsh with you. Or at all.
“Mc.” Victor called your name. Looking at the source of his voice you wiped off your tears in a quick motion. “Don’t bother, — you turned back, to hide your bloodshot eyes.— “I’ll get everything done. Go set up the dinner.” His heart ached, watching you turning away to hide your tears from him.
“No.” He walked up to you, folding you into a hug. “Today I almost lost the client I negotiated for weeks. They got a better offer and I had to change plans. The meeting was unplanned, I should’ve been at home with you.” He murmured into your ear. You stood there in sock while he kept talking.
“So I got frustrated. I shouldn’t have to release my anger on you. You just wanted to spend this day with me. I’m sorry.” He apologized. You on the other hand was shocked. Your boyfriend is a prideful person. And goddamn, he is also stubborn just as much like you are. The man you get to know almost never makes mistakes and if he does, the ground can crack, there’s no money in this world for him to make him admit it. He had to regret his actions very much to muster out an apology.
“It’s okay.” You turned to face him, knowing he meant it. Reaching up you scarping your fingers through his soft and well kept hair. “It was my fault after all. I went overboard with the sweets. And I scattered them all around the house.” You added. “Dummy.” He sighed, a relieved smile tugged at the corner of his lips when he saw you are hot angry at him. A soft giggle escaped your lips, remembering again how many chocolate eggs you hide in this big house.
“This looks better.” He pulled away, wiping the remaining tears from the corner of your eyes. “From now on just smile only. It looks better on you than the tears.” A pink color appeared on your face. When this stone cold man get so romantic?
“I’ll go pick up the eggs. Just keep making the dinner I’ll be fine.” You turned around and walked away.
***
“Almost got it!” You stretched further, balancing with a net in your hand while Victor had a firm grip on your hip. You were practically levitating above the pool to reach for the plastic egg at the bottom. Victor during that grew some gray hair.“I can’t believe you literally threw eggs in the pool. What if I’m not around? You straight up jump in?” You glared at him above your shoulders. “Hold me still or let me go. I can get them myself.” You puffed up your cheeks and reached further.
“Idiot, you can’t even swim.” He sighed. “Mc, stop wiggling you going to fall in!” And like this is what gravity waited for, you slipped on the wet tile, you fell in dragging Victor with yourself. With a swift motion, he scooped you up in his arms and brought you up in the surface. “I told you to hold me!” You screeched between coughs. “If you wouldn’t throw eggs in here like an idiot you are we wouldn’t be in this situation.” He fired back sitting you on the edge of the pool and then he climbed out himself.
“Dummy.” He sighed for the millionths time today, draping you in a towel. “Go get changed or you’ll catch a cold.” He helped you up. In that moment a little smirk appeared on your face, and it stretched wider. “What is it? Don’t tell me you still have eggs.” Victor sighed, a miserable look on his face. “Nothing.” You smiled and ran away.
“How many times I have to tell you? Don’t run by the pool!” He yelled after you but you were already outside. Grabbing the paperbag left on the bedroom you hurried away to the shower. After taking a shower you put on the pink, fuzzy bunny onsie you bought today. Stepping out your bringht pink color looked way too odd compared to the black and claret themed bedroom you two shared.
“What on earth are you wearing this time?” Victor looked at you from the bed. While waiting, he used the guests bathroom and changed into a black silk sleepwear. You giggled and hopped in next to him. “I didn’t remember keeping a rabbit at home.” He chuckled. “Childish.” He added. Rolling your eyes at his comment you laid down besides him. “Today is still Easter so I’m excused.”
“You have 5 more minutes to be like this.” He looked at the clock on the wall. “Then we are stretching it till tomorrow because I’m not changing.” You turned to face him.
Putting down his phone on the bedside table, Victor pulled you closer to his body. “I’ll make it up for you for being away. And for yelling at you.” He sighed, pressing his lips on the top of your head. As he moved closer to you something pierced into his side. Reaching to get it a small plastic egg was in his hand.
“Dummy.”
Your cheerful laugh echoed through the bedroom.

i’d be your valentine – s.todoroki
Tumblr media
[warnings: none really, I wouldn’t count this as angst]
summary: in which todoroki is unclear about his intentions
word count: 2,646
masterlist
For some reason, you weren't expecting the people at UA to be nice. You were expecting snobby kids that thought their quirks were the best and it was all just a competition. Well, of course, there were some students like that but the other students were super nice.
You fit in with your class right away and you also made sure everyone else felt comfortable and included. Though you were friends with the whole class, you were close to Midoriya, Ida, Uraraka, Tsu, and Todoroki. You guys would hang out after classes, not only to study but just to do regular teenager stuff like go to the mall or the movies. You guys hung out so much and got so close to each other that it was normal to also hang out one-on-one. That's how you and Todoroki became so close.
Before you lived in the dorms, you two lived in the same neighborhood and you would walk home together. And when the others couldn't make study sessions, you'd typically invite Todoroki over so you two could study.
It wasn't necessarily something you could help, but you started catching feelings for the boy. You admired how laidback and quiet he was. You weren't a loud person yourself, so you enjoyed each other's company. You'd sometimes playfully debate whether cold or hot soba was better. Sometimes you'd even talk about his fire quirk and why he held so much resentment toward it. He wouldn't always go into great detail but it made you happy that he somewhat trusted you.
And because you had such a strong friendship, you didn't tell him about the feelings you had for him. You didn't want to ruin something that meant so much to you especially if he didn't reciprocate those feelings. You've never seen it happen in real life, but in books and movies confessions usually led to the downfall of a relationship and you didn't want to risk that.
But it was the season of love. Valentine's Day was right around the corner, and you were more in touch with your romantic side. You liked seeing the pink and red decorations everywhere, hearts hung up on the wall and dangling from the season. And you loved the idea of expressing love and care with those you loved, whether it be romantic or platonic. It was nice making people feel loved; giving was always more important than receiving to you.
During lunch, you always sat with your close friend group and today wasn't any different. Everyone else often changed where they sat and who they say next to, but you and Todoroki always sat next to each other.
He sat to your left, eating his soba, giving you and your hot soba a playful side-eye making you lightly punch his arm.
"Any plans for Valentine's Day?" Uraraka asked the group, making you look up from your food and look at everyone's reactions.
Midoriya shook his head profusely as his cheeks started to turn pink, but everyone else just shook their heads. No one seemed to be hung up about it; life goes on and you guys had more important things to worry about. You admit it would be nice to have one, but you remember you have plenty more Valentine's Days left in your lifetime.
"I've never had a Valentine," You spoke up and leaned your head onto your hand.
"Me either, but I don't think Valentines are something we should focus on. School and our hero training is the most important thing!" Ida spoke seriously, making you chuckle.
He was always too serious and it was funny to watch sometimes. Small things that weren't important were kind of turned into a teaching moment or a lecture; it was like having a parent on campus.
"I'd be your valentine, Y/L/N," Todoroki shrugged and turned to face you, a small smile on his face.
You froze for a second, taking in what he was saying. Was this the confession you were waiting for or was he just trying to be a good friend? He had never said anything like this or showed any interest before. Maybe he meant it like: "if we were in another dimension and I liked you in that way." So it was best not to overthink it; overthinking never failed to get you in trouble.
"I'd be your valentine, too, Todoroki," You nodded, a big grin spread across your face.
He nodded and turned back to his lunch, but you kept an eye on him. You just wanted to admire him, the person you considered to be your closest friend. You watched as he kept a smile on his face while he ate, not letting it drop even while he was chewing. He was such a calm and collected person, someone you could run to in a crisis. He'd either have your back or try to get you to relax but he'd never be against you. You admired his strength, which you knew he had a lot of by what he told you about his family and home life. But to keep it short, he was your favorite person and he wasn't something you were willing to risk.
But as the days passed with you hoping that your best friend would ask you to be his Valentine. You weren't supposed to be digging into his words, but you couldn't help it. Maybe overthinking would be your friend this time. As delusional as it sounded, you still had hope. But that hope completely dwindled the night before the big day. That was your last opportunity to grab something for him before you saw him the next day but he didn't ask you.
Everything was regular. He acted the same around you, sneaking glances during class, passing notes back in forth laughing at how irritable Bakugo was. The small touches were normal, a hand on your shoulder sometimes or accidentally touching hands. There was no grand gesture but you expected this. You expected it yet, it still upset you. "Hope for the best, but expect the worst," is how the phrase goes. Next time you just won't hold out any hope and maybe you won't be so disappointed.
You forced yourself out of your bed the next day, for once dreading the Valentine's Day decorations and romantic aura. You were hoping (though you'd never admit it) that some prankster ran through the school and tore down the decorations. You just weren't in the mood for it, and you knew others wouldn't be either.
You thought of this, how many people would resent the holiday and be moody all day, and that's why you got everyone in your class candy and a card. Even though you were sulking last night, you still stayed up to write thoughtful notes for each of your classmates and taping a heart-shaped lollipop to the inside of the card.
You snatched the bag of candy and cards off the floor before leaving your dorm and walking to class. You made sure to plaster a smile on your face as you walked around the school. Fake it 'til you make it.
Before walking into the classroom, you grabbed the first card, written to Aoyama.
"Happy Valentine's Day, Aoyama," You greeted him as you walked toward his desk, holding out the card.
His smile matched yours and hit eyes light up at the sight of you holding out the card. This turned your fake happiness into a real sense of joy. You loved making people happy and Aoyama's smile was a great way to start the day.
You walked through the class, your mood steadily increasing as you handed out the cards. Even as you moved on from Bakugo to Midoriya, your mood hadn't changed.
"How old are we?" The ash-blonde boy asked, before trying to snatch the card out of your hand.
"Uh uh, what do we say?" You asked, trying to coax a "thank you" out of him.
"Ugh! Just when I thought you weren't as bad as the rest of these extras," He snarled and sat back in his chair, arms over his chest.
You mulled over his words for a second before reluctantly handing the card over.
"So, I'm your favorite classmate you say?" You teased him and raised an eyebrow.
"Hey, Bakugo what-"
"I didn't say that!" He cut Kirishima off and rolled his eyes.
"We don't even talk that much," You hummed.
"Exactly," Bakugo scoffed. He went to snatch the card out of your hand but stopped and gently took it from you. "Thanks, Extra."
When you finished handing out the cards, you looked in the bag and saw two were still left. One was for Mister Aizawa and the other was Todoroki's.
This made you turn and look at the empty seat that would usually be filled by now.
You frowned slightly but sat back in your chair. Maybe he overslept and was running late. Or maybe there was a villain attack- no, you would've known by now.
You were anxiously tapping your pencil on your desk and picking at your lips, sorting through scenarios when he walking into the room. You only knew he arrived because you heard a collective gasp from the girls, pulling your eyes from his empty desk to the door of the classroom.
You inhaled sharply at the sight. His cheeks were pink and his eyes were cast toward the floor, embarrassed. You knew he didn't really like all the attention he just garnered but instead of bailing him out, you couldn't help but notice his hands were full. In one hand he held a teddy bear that was half his size and in the other hand, a bouquet of red roses.
"Who are those for, Todoroki?"
"How do we know someone didn't give them to him? I mean, he is the prettiest boy at UA..."
"Did someone give you those?"
Before he could respond to your classmates, you turned your head toward the window, ready to zone out. The girls were asking the questions you wanted the answers to, but you doubt you could handle it. Did someone confess to him? Did he confess to somebody else? Of course, his Valentine offer was simply platonic, you were a fool to ever think otherwise.
"Y/L/N?" His usually stoic voice now wavered with nervousness. You sighed and turned to him and saw his face fall. The blush on his cheeks disappeared as he paled and he gave you a concerned look. "Why are you about to cry? Are you alright?" His voice was hushed, trying to make sure other people didn't hear.
You hadn't noticed until he mentioned it but you could feel the wetness pooling in your eyes and your bottom lip trembling. You just shook your head and blinked the tears away, determined not to cry in such a public space.
"I'm okay, I'm fine. What did you need?"
The smile on your face wasn't a big one, small and no teeth showing. And you made sure to speak in your nicest voice, not wanting him to think you were upset with him.
"You sure?"
"I'm positive. What is it?" You asked, looking back and forth between him and the gifts in his hand.
You gulped and blinked back more tears; you weren't sure how long you could keep the facade up.
"Right," He nodded, getting back to his point. Todoroki wasn't going to push you to open up, he knew how annoying that could be, especially since you were in a room full of people. His face got pink again, which was funny because he has never been this nervous, especially around you. "These are for you. Happy Valentine's Day."
He held the roses and bear out for you to take while you gasped quietly.
You mumbled, "for me?" as you hesitantly took the gifts from him.
"Yes, of course. You're my Valentine," He spoke, his voice laced with confusion as if he didn't know why you were confused.
After setting the gifts down on the desk, you quickly stood up and pulled him into a hug.
"You're the absolute sweetest!" You squealed, though it was muffled because your face was buried in his neck.
He slowly wrapped his arms around you and returned your tight hold. You two stood like this until Mister Aizawa called for the class to settle down a few moments later.
When you pulled away from his warm body, your eyes met making your cheeks heat up. You turned away from him shyly, unable to believe he was looking at you the way he was. Full of joy and admiration, like you were the only person in the world.
The second your eyes pulled away from him, you noticed the looks your classmates were giving you, which made you even shyer. The girls were cooing and the boys were cheering Todoroki on. You could hear Kirishima admiring how "manly" he was. Bakugo of course was slouching in his chair, crunching on the lollipop, not caring about what was going on.
Your Valentine walked over to his desk and you sat down in your seat, sighing happily. You leaned your head on your hand getting ready to ignore your teacher and whatever he was about to say.
Everything your teacher said went in one ear and out the other. You were too busy thinking about what just happened. The questions you had before were answered but you had so many more questions and thoughts roaming around in your head. He never asked you to be his Valentine, right? Did you miss something? You were moping around because he didn't ask. But at least he didn't buy you those nasty chocolates that come in the heart-shaped box.
You held the caramel brown teddy bear in your lap and moved to squeeze it. You leaned down to nuzzle your nose in the fur and you sighed contently as you recognized Todoroki's signature scent: mint and cedarwood. To you, it was calming and grounding; you felt comfortable and at home. And since the bear smelled like Todoroki, you wondered how long he had the bear for. Was it sitting in his room since that day you talked about Valentines? Or did he buy it last night and sprayed his cologne on it?
You had so many more questions, but the answers didn't matter. You were happy that you had a Valentine this year and you were happy it was someone you liked. Whether he was just doing it in a platonic way, you appreciated the effort he put in.
Once homeroom was over, you grabbed your things and handed your teacher the card and candy, making him raise a suspicious eyebrow before saying "thank you." You then walked over to the half-hot half-cold boy, a big smile on your face and butterflies in your stomach.
"So, since when was I your Valentine?" Your tone was playful but you were genuinely curious. "You never asked me."
"I did. At lunch the other day," He said as he paused putting his things in his bag. An eyebrow was raised as he continued, "I said I'd be your Valentine and you said you'd be mine. Was I unclear?"
You blew air out your nose as you chuckled at him. You just shook your head and brought the bear close to your chest.
"Just a little, but that's okay. I got you a card and a lollipop. Had I known you were being serious, I would've gotten you something better. I apologize."
You were fiddling with your fingers, nervous about what he'd think about you being unprepared. And you were somewhat embarrassed that the only thing you got him was a card and candy, but clearly, you didn't know.
"That's okay. We always have next year," He shrugged and gave you a reassuring smile.
"Right. Next year."

Never Been Kissed: Hizashi Yamada
HI I’M ON A ROLL
so this combines NYE and Valentine’s Day soooo yeah
Pairing: Hizashi Yamada x fem!reader
~~~~~~~~~~
Conflicting schedules had always been a problem in your relationship, but it never stopped either of you. Sure you had made plans with your boyfriend for your first Valentine’s together, but plans always change.
Your work hours got shifted around again.
He had to work extra hours at the radio station because someone else requested time off. It was always something.
But that’s how the two of you worked.
You knew being in a relationship with the radio hero and teacher Present Mic would me taxing, whether emotionally or mentally. It was hard dealing with his early mornings and late nights, but you persevered. You just thought that maybe you’d be able to spend time with him on a day that meant a lot to him. You weren’t too surprised that he really and truly loved this day. With how loud he shows his emotions, you figured this holiday was perfect for him.
But his softs were always the most serene softs you’d ever experienced. Everyone knew Present Mic, but few knew Hizashi Yamada. And you were one of the lucky few to know him. You knew him not just as a person and hero, you knew him intimately. I mean, of course you did, you’ve been together for over a year! Like the cheesy man you know him to be, he had planned it out all perfectly during a New Years Eve show. You had been on a few dates but nothing had been official, so you were surprised he had invited you to see him do his show. He had wanted to spend the holiday with you but had to work so he thought, why not both?
The night was going swimmingly, filled with laughter and nostalgia as he recounted events that had happened all the while playing incredible music tied with great stories either from him or his little listeners. You were in awe, seeing him in his element and thriving; it was a sight to behold. Hizashi was like a siren and you were the unsuspecting victim and it was honestly a sensation you wanted to happen more and more.
Midnight was a second away and he had begun the count down be saying various quotes and well wishes for the new year. You were simply enjoying yourself when it was down to the final 30 seconds and he spoke up.
“Alright little listeners the time has come! Just under 20 seconds until the new year! Grab your sweetheart, your best friend, your pet, and give em a smooch at the count of zero! And don’t worry,” he looks over to you at the 10 second mark and announces, you think, only to you. “I’ve got my girlfriend here to kiss so no kisses from you all to me, ya dig?”
He leaves his desk, clicking the right settings to mute himself so he can whisper to you. “What do you say? Be my girlfriend?”
You’re stunned and just nod frantically, unsure of what to do as you saw zero approach on the clock. Hizashi unmutes his mic and safely yells, “Happy New Year!” before quickly muting and bringing you into sweet kiss. He tasted like mint chocolate and the thought sent shivers down your spine.
It was weird to you that this year was going to be your first Valentine’s Day together, despite being in a relationship for a year. The previous year he had to work and you had a family emergency, so he knew to not push it onto you. But this year Hizashi wanted to spoil you like the queen he knows you are.
But Present Mic always had his late night Valentine’s show that was a hit and he couldn’t miss it.
When he told you, you smiled nicely and told him it was okay. And it really was! You weren’t too big on the holiday yourself but you knew he was. On the day, you woke up to an array of flowers and cute little love notes left all over your room. You giggled to yourself as you walked into the kitchen, knowing he was already at U.A., and you see something boxed up on the counter.
Hey baby girl!
I made your favorite early this morning, but I’m sad I can’t eat it with you! I can’t wait to see you tonight my songbird!
Your Hizashi
If it was possible to love this man more than you already do, then this might’ve been the tipping point. You were overjoyed at his little acts of love that he showed you, knowing he won’t be coming in until practically midnight and it made your heart flutter.
At the end of your work day, you had already gotten a few text messages and calls from him reminding you that he loves you so much. And when you got to your newly shared apartment, you were greeted by a gigantic teddy bear with balloons and another card.
Sweet baby,
I didn’t mean to check your browser history but I know this little, well big, guy has been on your mind for a bit. But check what he has in his paw! I’ll see you later tonight baby!
Your Hizashi
You’re relieved no one saw the happy and flustered dance you did outside your apartment door as you shuffle in all the items your doting boyfriend bought you. Once your shoes are off and you’re more adjusted, you open the envelope. “What!?” You yelled to no one.
He had gotten you tickets to a spa and hot springs for a whole weekend?! And it’s the one you’ve been dying to go to? You quickly dial his number.
“My favorite listener!”
“You’re gonna kill me Hizashi! I-I mean, the spa, the food, everything! God, I love you.”
You hear him sigh and hum contentedly. “Anything for my lovebird! And there’s one more surprise, but you have to be listening to the show at exactly 8:55 okay?”
You nod into the phone and tell him you love him again before hanging up. You were positive you had all the ingredients for his favorite meal and dessert and you couldn’t wait to make it for him and have it ready for when he comes home. The first time you had made dinner for him after a late night radio show was one of the softest and happiest you had seen him. And in turn when you’ve had late shifts he’s done the same for you.
You had decided to wait until later to make his food, so you watched a couple movies and ate some leftovers to tide you over before making your special meal. You knew it would take about an hour for everything to be ready and since he comes home around 9:30 these nights you began your meal prep around 8:30.
25 minutes later you tuned into his show while taking a break to change your clothes and put on a robe. While you were changing you heard his voice coming in loud and clear.
“Listeners, it’s almost time for me to go but I have a quick story, okay? Over a year ago, I asked my beautiful wonderful girlfriend to be mine and she said yes! We even had our first New Years Kiss then! We’ve been together ever since, but this is our first Valentine’s together. And you all know how much I love this holiday!
“Her father had passed away the week before so we didn’t do anything. I was honestly afraid to express how much I love this day but she constantly reassured me that it was okay. And so I waited, ya dig?”
You almost dropped whatever was in your hands at hearing him through your speaker. What, just what is he doing?
“So this year, I’ve gone all out! But everything I did, I kept her and her family in mind! I sent her mom and grandmother everything I had given her today! My girlfriend didn’t know that but now she does! She’s really the best, you know? She’s even supporting me working today and everyday! I couldn’t have asked for a better gift than her. And I know today is hard for her, but that’s why I gotta pump it up for her!
“I love you, sweetie, and I can’t wait to see you when I get home.”
Hizashi was more than eager to make it back to his apartment where he knew the love of his life was waiting. His show was more tiring than usual but he knew he could endure it for you. He had already washed his hair and changed clothes at the station before coming home. Before entering, he could already smell the food you had made and his mouth began to salivate.
He presses his way into the apartment, and was thrown off. You weren’t in the kitchen. The table was set with candles and the food but where were you? He hopes you’re not upset over what he did or worse yet, crying because of your father. “Baby girl?” He asks the air, but is relieved when he hears you respond from your bedroom. “I didn’t see you in the kitchen or at the table so I got concerned because I-“
Rarely is Present Mic left speechless.
Rarely is Hizashi Yamada left speechless.
But here he is, stunned into silence at seeing you, donned in what he dubs the sexiest lingerie he’s ever seen. Sitting on your bed, no kneeling, so he can see all of your body covered in lace.
You whisper out while your own hands roam your body. “Happy Valentine’s Day, baby.
“Come unwrap your gift.”
Rosy In Retail
Title: Rosy In Retail Word Count: 1,480 Warning: None, just fluff! Though if you need anything tagged let me know Ship: The Tale of a Delinquent and the Top Student (Robby x Myself) Summary: Working in retail sucks, but working with someone you love can make it bearable and can even lead to some rosy moments.
Drops of water pelted the ground harshly outside. These minuscule but consistent crashes sent the liquid debris onto fleeing people and into flooding puddles that grew deeper by the moment, despite only being created by dreary droplets. Yet inside one of the many buildings of the suburban strip, everything from the flooring to the atmosphere was dry. The headache-inducing fluorescent lights shone down onto shortened indigo tips, revealing a silvery tint to the style that was caused by a fading dye job.
That could only be observed when the lady possessing these lavender locks stood relatively still. A task that may seem inherently simple for her co-workers seemed like absolute hell to her. Within her little cubicle for cashiers, Rebecca shifted her weight from her left foot to her right. She paced the three to four steps that the cubicle allowed. She leaned against the short back wall for a second, only to stride forward and rest her body on the hardwood counter instead, all in a matter of seconds. If no customers were in sight, she even strode down the small aisle of cubicles, gathering tags and discarded hangers to organize later.
Yet since she had been in this position for so long in life and for so long already just that day, the restless routine she created had become just as monotonous as asking careless customers how their experience was or being vehemently denied when simply fulfilling her job's legal requirement of asking them to get a credit card.
One thing that made suffering through the eternities of her shifts more bearable was the fact that Rebecca's boyfriend often worked alongside her. It was nice to have someone to drone to when the store lie dead, and to have someone else witness the audacity that some customers had during the holidays. But the best part of it all was having someone who understood her past the cheery sale pitches and college discussions, someone who she could head home with afterward.  Having that, along with a relatively supportive group of co-workers and bosses, made the psychological horror that was working in retail a little less horrific.
Cocoa-coated irises flickered from the sales screen before them to the depths of forested green that belonged to her partner. Within the unnatural glow of the overhead lights, they seemed to shimmer with a sense of joyous affection, an unspoken sentiment of the worth Rebecca had to him, all while the couple tended to suburban socialites, PTA parents, and the elderly alike. When they finally had another drop in customers, Rebecca's smooth skin slid over to Robby's counter as she reached out to grasp Robby's hand.
"So, where were we in our conversation before the last customer rush?"
The corners of Robby's lips twitched upwards in an amused smirk while he intertwined their fingers. "Let's see, you were telling me the gory details of the latest podcast episode you have on. That led to you wanting to ask me something. And then we got interrupted by that ass slamming his cart full of stuff on your register."
"Oh, right, thank you! I swear I'm so braindead between finals and work today... ANYWAYS! I was gonna ask if you were coming over for dinner tonight?'
"You got that question during your episode about cannibalism?" Robby retorted, an inaudible chuckle escaping his lips which were only evident by the rise and fall of his shoulders.
Rebecca rolled her eyes and head before melting into a fit of giggles. "No! I mean the mentions of all the food reminded me, but it wasn't the deciding thing. The timing just sucked! I promise we're not having people for dinner nor am I luring you into being dinner." Rebecca paused, her eyes glancing around to make sure that no one else was around. "At least I don't think anyways..."
"Well then, what are you having for dinner?"
"Mom said something about hamburger alfredo when she took me in this morning, but I don't know if we'll have it tonight. If not, I was gonna treat to take-out!"
Robby tilted his head for a second to give the illusion that he did have to ponder the choice. This small gesture earned him some more giggles from his girlfriend since they both knew that Robby was more than happy to spend time with Rebecca in her home, rather than in the apartment he shared with his mother and her countless partners or his father and his girlfriend who just happened to be the mother of his worst rival. He then affirmed that he would be joining her for the evening and leaned in to kiss Rebecca's forehead.
As much as the two longed to last in that quiet moment or be released from their shift, reality and their boss came crashing in as their naturally booming voice questioned if either of them had gotten a credit. The two simply shook their heads. Robby took a more nonchalant tone to his answer. Rebecca's tone, on the other hand, conveyed a sense of remorse that even Robby believed for a moment before he caught a glimpse of her mischievous smile when their boss turned their back.
"Well, there's always tomorrow. You're both scheduled in, right?"
The couple affirmed that they were to show up tomorrow which led to their boss remarking on how the two had never been separate in all their time working there. But before anyone could dwell on that fact and have a moment to change it, another coworker strode down the aisle and into Rebecca's cubicle.
"Conn, long time no see! I take it you're my relief and my ticket home?"  Rebecca excitedly pondered as she took a step back from the computer.
Conn, who was a man in the same age range as both Robby and Rebecca, laughed as he patted her shoulder to calm her bouncing. "That I am, no need to thank me."
"FINALLY!" Rebecca exclaimed, earning a scolding look from her boss before he simply sighed and let the younger group continue their antics. "I swear you're like the best guy on the planet for this!"
"Best guy on the planet?" Rebecca's boss questioned with an entertained inhale.
"You heard the woman, Boss" Conn replied with a grin.
Robby only watched as the three went back and forth on Rebecca's standards. He knew that his girlfriend made friends easily and was highly complimentary towards everyone, but that rationale couldn't entirely keep the tangled barbs of jealousy from wrapping around Robby's heart. He still wanted to be the best man for her with no exceptions or competition.
But before a pouty scowl could even completely form on Robby's face, Rebecca's delicate grasp had squeezed his hand and began to drag him towards the breakroom. He looked down at her with a gaze widened in surprise yet was only met with a beaming smile in return.
"Now you know while Conn may be the greatest guy for being my relief, he's still a random guy. You, honey, are the most spectacular boyfriend, my best friend for over ten years, and the greatest sweetheart to ever exist! I'm surprised that the team hasn't come to you asking if you can shut me up yet!"
And just like that, those sharpened twinges of poisonous negativity recoiled and retreated to the depths of Robby's core. He was left grinning like an idiot while the heat rose up his neck to dust his cheeks. "Wait, you're serious? And so were our coworkers? I thought they were just being motherly when they told me how much you talk about me..."
"Of course I am, I never shut up about you to anyone when it comes to praising you! That's how much you're on my mind. I like sharing some sweetness with others so that they feel appreciated too! Or else I'm pretty sure Donnie or Mary-Lee will put duct tape over my mouth at this point while I work..."
Rebecca shuddered at the thought of her intimidating bosses and getting on their bad side. But Robby couldn't help but bring their walk to a halt to bring the lavender-locked lady into his arms. This sudden pause made Rebecca rosy-cheeked in turn before she quickly nuzzled herself closer into his embrace. The two shared a quick kiss in front of the breakroom and when Robby pulled away, he wanted to reaffirm just how deep his feelings for Rebecca were and no one made him feel as special as she did.
However, once again, their sweet moment was interrupted by their coworkers. "You two can kiss and cuddle after you're done with work!"
So much for sweet moments when working... But there'd be plenty of time later for Robby to properly convey his feelings since he was planning on not letting his special little lilac go anytime soon when they got home...
Fluffy Town
Day 27, Post #1 by @adenei
Title: Fluffy Town
Author: adenei
Pairing: Dean & Seamus BrOTP (and Gryffindor pals)
Prompt: A Friendship Like No Other
Rating: K
TW: None :)
A/N: Inspired by Troy and Abed’s BrOTP on the TV show, Community, where the boys are bored and decide to make a blanket fort during their sleepover!
**************
Now that the Yule Ball was over and Christmas had come and passed, all the hype and excitement had died down. The Hogwarts students were becoming bored and restless for the remainder of the holidays since there were only so many places to roam around the castle. And because they were in the full throes of winter, this made for an even greater limitation on activities to partake in, and most students weren’t interested in studying over break.
So, Dean and Seamus found themselves sprawled out on a couple of armchairs in the Gryffindor common room just after lunch, staring at the gold tiles on the ceiling. Their limbs hung off the cushioned furniture in unnatural forms, dangling in the air as small huffs and sighs became louder with every exhale.
“Will you two stop it with your moaning?” admonished Parvati from across the room.
“We’re just bored,” Seamus replied. “You don’t happen to have any ideas to keep us occupied this afternoon, do you?”
He wiggled his eyebrows, nonverbally suggesting a proposition that made both girls scoff in disgust.
“Gross, Shay,” Lavender rolled her eyes at his remark.
“That’s not what you were saying the other night,” Seamus smirked.
“Yes, when you were dressed in your finest robes and charming, acting like a true gentleman. Now, you’re just a frog again,” Lavender gave it right back to him.
“A frog?” Seamus wrinkled his nose, not fully understanding Lav’s reference, looking to Dean for clarification.
“It’s a muggle fairy tale that involves a princess and a frog and having to—”
“Yeah, alright, I’m bored again. What are we going to do?”
Dean sat up in the chair and stared into the crackling flames of the fire, an idea forming in his mind.
“Oh, what if we go upstairs, change into our pajamas and build a blanket fort!”
Seamus moved to sit up a little too fast at Dean’s suggestion and landed on the floor. Despite falling, a wide smile erupted onto his face at the idea.
“That’s brilliant, mate! How didn’t we think of that sooner?”
The boys scrambled to their feet to escape up the boy’s staircase when a derisive laugh stopped them.
“A blanket fort? What are you, seven?” Lavender insulted while Parvati giggled at her jab.
Dean and Seamus paid no mind to the negative comment, and instead, Dean invited them to join.
“You can come up in an hour or so and hang out if you want! You’ve gotta be dressed in your jammies, though, or we won’t permit entry.”
“I think we’re good. We’ll find something more suitable for teenagers to do,” Parvati dismissed the invitation.
“Well, have fun reading your old magazines and doing your nails, then,” Seamus shrugged as they disappeared up to the fourth-year’s dorm.
A few hours later, the boys were sitting inside an oasis surrounded by cotton and polyester blends. Their original attempt only spanned the area between their beds, but Seamus thought to ask the house-elves in the kitchens if they could borrow some extra blankets for their endeavours. The elves were more than happy to oblige, and by the time Dean and Seamus returned to their dorm, there were two large stacks of linens for them to hang.
The original area then expanded to cover the entirety of the boy’s dorm. In order to conserve the number of blankets they had, Dean had the brilliant idea to unhook the curtains on the four-poster beds and utilize those first. An array of golds, crimsons, beiges and greys engulfed the open space as the colors reflected in the glow of the bell-jar lights the boys were using for more brightness.
With deep sighs of satisfaction, the pair sat back against their beds, admiring their hard work. The only downside to the fort was that the ceilings were a little too low. If they sat fully erect, their heads were only two inches shy of the blankets over them.
Dean turned to Seamus, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
Seamus hung his head and nodded. “We’re too old for this, aren’t we?”
“Yeah…” Dean agreed.
But then a thought crossed his mind, and an imperceptible smile donned his face. “What if we used our brooms to help extend the ceiling, so it doesn’t drop so low where there isn’t a bedpost to keep it up? That would vault the ceiling a couple feet!”
“That’ll make it work for a teen—NO! A man!” Seamus added.
The boys looked at each other and broke out into a song to pump them up for the remodel.
“Ba-boo ga-boo, boo-chee. Ba-boo ja-boo, boo-boo tee!”
Seamus broke out into more beatboxing as Dean took over with a melody that featured a robotic voice.
Their efforts were successful, and the blanket fort became more spacious as a result. Now, they could enjoy the space until they had to go down for dinner. The two were in the middle of playing the muggle card game, War, when they heard the door open.
“Holy hippogriffs, what is this?!” Neville said upon returning to the dormitory.
Dean and Seamus both looked at each other. It was clear that both boys hadn’t thought about what would happen when their mates returned. Using two separate openings in the fort, they popped their heads through to acknowledge the newcomer.
“We made a blanket fort!” Dean explained as the shock on Neville’s face transitioned to glee.
“This is brilliant! Can I join?”
Dean and Seamus shared a look. In their excitement and haste, they’d forgotten about their three roommates. They couldn’t exactly tell Neville ‘no’ since he lived there too. Plus, it might be fun to have all the boys participate. More people would mean more options for card games. Seamus nodded, and Dean looked back to Neville.
“You may enter as long as you follow the rules: No magic, no farting, and no pillow fighting.”
“And only if you can get some hot chocolate from the kitchen, first!” Seamus requested, awarding him a side-eye from Dean.
“Y-yeah, sure! I’ll be back in a jiff!”
When Neville left, he must have spread the word to the other Gryffindors about the fort. Harry and Ron returned with Neville to join in on the fun, and Ron’s older brothers followed to scope it out. Dean and Seamus were fine with Harry and Ron inviting Hermione into the fort, and by that time, Lavender and Parvati’s interest got the better of them, and they joined in too.
When it was time for dinner, it was evident that the blanket fort idea spread to the rest of Gryffindor, and they were popping their heads into the other dorm rooms to see what their peers had come up with. Professor McGonagall was beside herself when all of Gryffindor showed up to the Great Hall in their nightclothes, but the twinkle in Professor Dumbledore’s eye quelled her reprimanding.
Chatter gradually spread to students in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, and it was confirmed by Ernie and Padma the next morning that their houses had joined in on the fun. The inter-house blanket forts were enough to cause the holiday lull to subside, and the houses came together to offer different events and activities to join over the next two days.
On the third day, however, the news had spread that Slytherin began making their own blanket forts, and Dean and Seamus had to make a difficult decision.
“Surely, we can co-exist?” Dean asked with hope threaded in his voice.
Seamus shook his head and looked to the rest of his dorm-mates. “We know the ways of the world. The blanket forts have officially mainstreamed. What’s next? Will the professors  join, as well?”
Loud grumbles were heard among their peers at the horrifying thought.
“No, we can’t allow this to spread any further. We’ve had our fun, and the new term begins in two days. It is time.”
Dean nodded in solidarity. No one wanted this to be the end, but they all knew a good thing can’t last forever.
“Alright, team. You know what to do. Spread the word, but watch yourselves and be safe. We don’t need another sock war erupting for this act of sacrifice.”
Harry, Neville, Ron, Hermione, Parvati and Lavender nodded at Dean’s words and dispersed throughout the castle to notify the others. Meanwhile, Dean and Seamus crawled to opposite corners of the fourth-year fort and reached up to latch onto the emergency release socks. On the count of three, both boys pulled, and the blankets came tumbling down around them.
The best friends lay there in the pile of sheets, mourning the loss of what will be remembered as the greatest Christmas hols that Hogwarts has ever seen. Ignoring the mess that would need to be taken care of eventually, they enjoyed each other’s company as the soft swish of blankets crumpling to the ground could be heard throughout the castle.
Earthbound: Ludwig’s Story
Characters: Germany, Prussia
Context:
Hundreds of years after the fall of Earth, mankind is slowly starting to return. Some people have a stronger urge to return than others, confused by fragments of memories from a life already lived.
Arthur’s story can be found here.
Matthew’s story can be found here.
Gabriel’s story can be found here.
---------------------------------------------
Ludwig is six, and is sick again. The doctors don't know what's wrong with him; they know what's causing it at least but they have no idea why. He can't keep food down and every time he tries to stand the world pitches and swims and he can't keep his balance so he never manages to stay up for long before he bonelessly falls to the floor, where he feels no better.
It's the gravity, the doctors say, for some reason he's affected by the gravity. The artificial gravity that he's known all his life; it's as if he's just climbed aboard and his body suffers from relapses where it just can't acclimatise. Where it suddenly realises that something's not quite right and rebels against him for a week or so. This his family already knows, but his mother isn't satisfied with such a lacklustre answer so she takes him to a different doctor every time he suffers another attack just in case one of them is even marginally more competent than the last. These 'episodes', as his mother likes to call them, don't happen all that often, but he seems to have one every ten months or so and they are regular enough to annoy his mother to no end. Ludwig doesn't really know if she's annoyed that no one can fix him or with him himself, Gilbert won't say and normally his big brother talks to pretend that he knows something so his silence worries Ludwig the most.
Mother is a very important person with a very important job: she's a governor of the space station upon which they live and it is very important that Ludwig remembers this. So, when he's laying in bed clutching at his belly and desperately clenching his eyes shut to minimise the swaying, his friends at school think that he is away for a special training academy. Because can you just imagine, the governor of a space station's son being space sick?
His father doesn't like to call it that because he thinks it's degrading so his mother doesn't, when she thinks Ludwig can't hear, anyway, but Ludwig knows that's what the kids at school would say so he happily keeps mum because it's easier than lying. They don't talk to him much besides, they find him too cold and distant but that's because he's so scared of disgracing his mother further that he can't quite relax fully.
When Ludwig is thirteen his mother, after exhausting all doctors aboard their large floating colony, finally accepts that it's unlikely that this small problem of his is going to go away. Her way of dealing with it is to pretend that it just doesn't happen; during an attack Ludwig is sent to his room where he stays painfully alone with only his books for company whilst she busies herself with her new campaigns. She's running for director now, aiming as high as she can go and there's no room for weak, feeble Ludwig all the way up there.
His brother tries his best to keep him entertained and happy during these times, but Gilbert is healthy, strong, smart; he's everything that Ludwig should also be able to grow up to be and their parents have sent him off to expensive schools which means that he's more often away from home than not. Sometimes Ludwig wonders if they've sent him away because they want Gilbert to be the all around best he can be, or if it's to distance him as much as they can from Ludwig. It's almost as if they're worried that Ludwig will taint him, or that maybe Gilbert will grow too attached to him and distract himself from what's really important. That Ludwig will anchor him down.
At five years older it's highly unlikely that Ludwig will be the one doing the influencing, but his brother, despite hardly seeing each other and such a large age difference, does seem to genuinely care for him. During one particular attack, when Ludwig is eighteen, Gilbert is home from university; it is almost Christmas and his family are preparing to travel to where his grandparents live on the other side of the space station, where they'll spend the holiday. Of course, it is now that his body decides to betray him.
He, his parents, and his brother are gathered around the large dining room table finishing off dinner. It is tense. Mostly it is Gilbert who talks because despite their mother's cool demeanour and their father's lack of interest he seems to always have something to say to fill the silence and speaks easily. Even with the response he gets, or lack of it, he seems honestly unperturbed and remains cheerful, somehow managing to both eat and speak without seeming impolite. As much as he loves his brother, Ludwig is also supremely jealous.
He stares at his fork, contemplating which point in the evening would be best to ask if he could slip away, when his body decides for him. His stomach swoops, his ears pop and the table tilts alarmingly. He clenches the edge in panic to remain upright and the noise alerts his mother, who looks up from her dessert in irritation.
'Ludwig, we are going away tomorrow.'
'M- mother-'
His mother sighs and looks at his father, who sharply stares back. 'Dear?'
His father grunts and spears another forkful of fruit pie. 'They're expecting him to come.'
'But the photographers-'
'What do you want me to do, Hilda?'
Meanwhile, Ludwig has still not been dismissed and cannot now seem to find the words to ask for permission himself without spewing all over the fancy silverware. He doubts that that will make the situation better, somehow. Gilbert notices and stands, attracting his parents' attention.
'I'll take Luddy to his room.'
'Darling...' their mother tries to say something, but it's what she's trying not to say that comes across the loudest.
Gilbert ignores her and walks around the table, slowly helping Ludwig to his feet, then away from the table and swiftly towards a bathroom. They make it just in time. Gilbert pats him comfortingly on the back and rubs soothing circles into his shoulders until he's finished, then hands him a glass of water.
'So, they're still arseholes, huh?'
Ludwig snaps his head up in horror, but this is a bad idea because the image of Gilbert swims before him and he has to shut his eyes.
'Don't call them that.' He finally manages, weakly.
Gilbert tuts. 'What the fuck did they feed you with in order to churn your personality out.'
Ludwig lays his head on the cool tiles of the floor and groans inwardly at how nice the feeling is. 'They're not arseholes.'
'Yeah, and my name's Shirley.'
Ludwig cracks open an eye, but Gilbert's not joking. He is, for once, deadly serious. 'How'd you put up with them Lud?'
Ludwig shrugs and gives a small shake of his head. 'They're our parents, Gil. They still care for me. Besides, I'm not exactly making it easy for them.'
Gilbert looks disgusted. 'You're their fucking son, arsehole. They're supposed to take care of you. They ain't even doing that right are they?' Gilbert runs a hand through his shock of white hair and bits his bottom lip whilst he shakes his head. 'Look at how they treat you versus me.'
'Yes, but I'm not exactly-'
'But nothing!' Gilbert raises his voice slightly and swallows. When he speaks again, he's much quieter, back under control. 'Have they got you in a university programme yet?'
Ludwig's silence is answer enough and Gilbert sighs deeply before brushing back Ludwig's sweaty fringe. 'There's nothing wrong with you Lud.' His brother sounds so very sad. 'Fuck, there's nothing wrong with you at all. They know full well that if they put you on a planet rather than this floating heap of rust that you'll probably be alright. And have they? Have they fuck.'
Ludwig wants to argue against him, wants to say something to stand up for himself if not for their parents but his eyes are suddenly burning and his throat is choked up. He knew a long time ago that his parents had given up on him, but to hear it from someone else hurts more sharply than anything he tells himself.
There's an odd companionable silence for a while; Ludwig lays still with his face against the floor and his brother's hand carding through his hair so he almost misses what Gilbert says next.
'I was gonna wait till Boxing Day, but I've got us tickets for Earth.'
Ludwig tenses and holds his breath. Gilbert continues. 'I was gonna wake you up on the 26th and take you away with me, but I want to tell you now instead, cause you look like shit. We're gonna get out of here Luddy; I've always wanted to take you to a planet and what better one is there than the original, huh?'
'You, I- you can't- what about your studies? The internship you've got?' Ludwig manages to stammer out, opening his eyes.
Gilbert brushes his concerns aside. 'I never liked medicine, really. I've always wanted to go to a planet, so I'm mega up for it.'
Ludwig knows he should say no, knows that he shouldn't take up the offer. He'd be denying his brother so much, he'd be exactly what their parents worried he'd be because he'll only drag Gilbert down and down and down like a heavy lead weight and ruin all of his chances at a good life.
But Ludwig wants to be selfish. He reaches out and clasps onto Gilbert's hand, squeezing it tightly. 'Gil...'
Gilbert flashes him a grin and winks. 'I know, right? How awesome am I?'
AN:
I’ve been a very busy bee recently and haven’t been able to write anything, so in lieu of something new, have something old.
This is from my fic Earthbound, which I’m embarassingly fond of. It’s made up of several different stories and Ludwig and Gilbert’s is the one that I’m the most happy with after all these years.
Hope you enjoyed!
December trip
Astute followers may have noticed a few posts the past couple weeks not from New Mexico, which is due to us taking a trip recently up to Minnesota and Michigan.
It feels like it was during the last drive home from Minnesota after seeing the wife’s children up there who were planning to move away that we learned my sister and her family would be moving to Minnesota for better hockey opportunities, thanks in part to covid increasing ability of remote work.
And that meant another trip to the land of 10,000 frozen lakes to spend a bit of time with family and get to watch some hockey games. That was fun and enjoyable and went much better than a previous winter trip which included an encounter with ice and getting a surprise purchase of a new vehicle.
This time when I planned the trip I had zero work to do during the weekend we would be there watching hockey, that was about a week before we left. By the time we were there I had probably two average days worth of work scheduled to be done during the weekend, that was frustrating and annoying and caused us to miss out on some time visiting and celebrating what wound up being a rather successful hockey weekend for the kids. But it was still fun to get to see them and visit as much as we were able to and also see the wife’s family who ironically had traveled back to visit other extended family in the area.
Then it was off to Michigan, right over the border from Indiana, where my son lives with his mom and her parents. I never get to see him enough. His mom, since the disastrous failure of our relationship, has been “great” about saying as his dad I am always welcome to visit anytime. And I suppose that is better than nothing but not really appropriate for a parent I think. I know it is a situation I desperately need to change and probably that will mean lawyers, but to be honest I am scared into inaction by the possibility of her trying to cut him off from me completely in retribution to any attempts I make to gain any custody.
For this trip I decided not to stay in their basement, in part because my wife came with me and in part because it is always super weird and awkward and I never like it. The last time I didn’t stay there when visiting, they had asked me to get another place as I was there during Christmas and they had other family visiting and it was a smaller basement than where they live now, all of which I understood. The problem in that case was I was basically relegated to some second (or worse) class visitor and wound up getting called and told I could come over to the house on Christmas day after noon, after things were basically done, and he had already done all his Christmas stuff. I decided then that I would not do that bull ever again and resigned myself to not having Christmas itself with him until/if I am able to have him somewhere staying with me for at least the one night, hence the trip a few weeks before the holiday.
He is such a wonderful nine year old now. Loves movies and reading as many books as he can and playing and imaging things constantly. I worry about him not getting enough time with kids his own age, he does have some other kids that are children of friends or relatives of his mom that he sees sometimes but he is the oldest of those by at least a couple years and I don’t know how much time he gets with any of them really. He is home schooled and I see some of his work and stuff when I visit and I see how great he is at reading and know he is not woefully uneducated or behind or anything and I trust his mom to do her best though a few things he asked me this trip did make me concerned a bit if history and things of the general outside world are getting addressed or taught. I got him a monitored child debit card and gave it to him with an allowance set up, it is a good system which includes lessons about money and finances which I know could really help him. I managed to get his mom set up with a parent account to monitor it but wasn’t able to convince him to set it up on his own tablet while I was there and with limited time did not want to press it. I mentioned he could use it to buy things he doesn’t get for Christmas so hopefully that will be enough incentive after the holiday. Stuff like that and having no ability to do anything since if I ask his mom she drags her feet or doesn’t reply at all is so damned annoying. I also worry about him being well adjusted to things like losing and facing tough things in life. I have seen him get frustrated and upset when losing a game and know he is short on practice of dealing with disappointment and stuff like that. I have seen his grandmother in particular cheating at games playing with him to make sure he wins and she is really “great” at making sure he is catered to and gets what he wants as often as possible, like letting him skip a meal without even trying it in favor of getting something else he wants that she makes for him. I understand as a grandparent the desire to do that but I know in the long run it is doing him a disservice to make sure he always gets everything he wants.
When I am there I get so frustrated and it’s so awkward because I am treated much more like a visiting friend his own age than another adult. I visit with him and spend as time as I can with him but have to basically end up just doing whatever his mom or grandparents decide to do really, with no input of my own. It was nice this time to have the nights at least to look forward to going back and visiting with my wife, but that doesn’t really fix the issue.
I did enjoy my time with him though and I love him very deeply and feel proud of how he is growing up. The wife and I drove around the area some and talked about probably moving up there during his high school aged years, even though neither of us found the area at all attractive. To me it always feels like going back in time, the bigger cities in the area to about the ‘80s and the smaller towns at least 20 years before that, and I don’t mean in a retro fun kind of way. I’m not really sure what it is about there that makes it like that but I really do not like it.
The driving up and back was fine aside from the Kansas City Ikea being out of over half the things we wanted and a little thing you may have heard of called log4j causing me to work one night in the hotel for about 6 hours, after having driven for 7 or so earlier that day. That was not so fun. But the weather was nice for all the driving and it snowed on us only one day in Minnesota when we were already there and were able to stay mostly off the roads. There were certainly big parts of the trip I enjoyed and it was great to see family and loved ones but it is also so difficult because of all the crap and it’s frustrating since I don’t know how to fix those things without risking them being made even worse.
But that was what we did for a week and a half or so and also was most of our visiting for this holiday as in town here now it is just me and my parents, we will get together and have some fun and gifts and food and stuff but it certainly won’t be the same without my sister’s family available as well.
It is nice to finally have somewhere I feel at least somewhat comfortable posting about this stuff, as that has not been the case previously for a good number of years for a variety of reasons, I’m sure that is why this wound up as such a long wall of text. That makes me extra thankful to Snap and Bob who I suspect may be the only ones to read this whole thing and I really do appreciate it. I have enjoyed this new, “lite” way to do tumblr that I have been doing for the past couple months and suspect I will continue it and I have decided I am fine with personal posts getting a whopping 5 notes or less.
Article: Ashton Edwards Is Breaking Down Gender Barriers in Ballet
Date: July 1, 2021
By: Marcie Sillman
When Ashton Edwards was 3 years old, the Edwards family went to see a holiday production of The Nutcracker in their hometown, Flint, MI.
For the young child, it was love at first sight.
"I saw a beautiful, black Clara," Ashton says, "and I wanted to be just like her."
Ashton has dedicated 14 years of ballet training in pursuit of that childhood dream. But all the technical prowess in the world can't help Ashton surmount the biggest hurdle—this aspiring dancer was born male, and for the vast majority of boys and men, performing in pointe shoes hasn't been a career option. But Ashton Edwards, who uses the pronouns "he" and "they," says it's high time to break down ballet's gender barrier, and their teachers and mentors believe this passionate dancer is just the person to lead the charge.
A Childhood in Motion
Ashton's mother, Latisha Edwards, says for as long as she can remember, Ashton, the sixth of seven Edwards siblings, has been in constant motion, dancing on any flat surface in the house. "He'd crash into plates in the kitchen," she laughs. She knew she had to find something to focus all that energy.
The year after the family trip to Nutcracker, when Ashton was just 4 years old, Latisha signed them up for a dance class offered through Flint's Head Start program. Karen Jennings, now chair of the dance division at the Flint School of Performing Arts, ran the Saturday program at the time.
"There was this little guy out in the hallway," Jennings remembers. It was Ashton, and Jennings saw the child was copying the students in her intermediate class.
"I was afraid he was going to fall and crack his head open," she says. "So, I invited him into the studio."
Jennings recognized Ashton's natural flexibility, rotation and body proportions, the physical assets that often propel a hopeful ballet dancer to success. Beyond these gifts, Ashton had what Jennings calls a "spark": the enthusiasm and self-discipline to devote to regular ballet classes. Once the Edwards family decided Ashton would continue ballet training, Jennings was happy to place them in her classes with the more advanced students. She kept a close eye on the aspiring dancer throughout their 12 years in the Flint School of Performing Arts program—though Ashton's journey there wasn't always easy.
Ashton was one of only a handful of boys in the school, and one of very few Black students. And though Ashton never felt treated differently, their keen awareness of being Black in a room full of white dancers created a pressure to excel.
"I've had to be 12 times better than everyone else my whole life," Ashton says. "We have no choice but to be the best if we want to be treated equally."
Finding a Dance Home in Seattle
By the time Ashton was 11 or 12, it became clear they had the raw skills to pursue ballet seriously, and Jennings met with the Edwards family to spell out what that would mean: leaving Flint for more rigorous pre-professional training. Latisha Edwards worried about sending her child out of town, but she supported their decision to enroll in summer classes at both Chicago's Joffrey Ballet and then at Houston Ballet.
Although Jennings believed the Joffrey would be a good long-term fit, at age 16 Ashton decided to audition for Pacific Northwest Ballet's summer intensive. They traveled to Chicago where the Seattle-based dance company was holding a large, regional audition. PNB artistic director Peter Boal says managing director Denise Bolstad spotted Ashton before he did.
"Her eyes got bigger, then she pointed to the name and audition number on the card." Boal immediately saw what Bolstad had noticed in Ashton. "His lines, his energy, his placement."
But something even more special struck Boal: This teenager had the kind of stage presence that's difficult to teach. "There are dancers that you just look at them, and they have their own special spotlight."
Boal offered Ashton a summer spot; despite their mother's qualms about the distance from Flint to Seattle, she let her son travel west, where they fell in love with both PNB and Seattle. After the summer, Boal accepted Ashton into the company's Professional Division training program.
Chasing the Dream of Dancing On Pointe
While the move to PNB made sense in terms of preparation for a professional ballet career, it didn't ensure that Ashton could immediately pursue gender-blind ballet training. In fact, the teenager didn't even consider it at first.
"Growing up I always knew all the choreography for the female roles," Ashton says. "I learned everything, but those were unreachable dreams, just insane fantasies." So, when Ashton first arrived at PNB, they focused on traditional men's classes, and on building strength, to develop into what they call a "man's man."
But the pandemic hit midway through Ashton's first year at PNB. When the ballet school shut down, Ashton had time to reflect on their efforts to fit the male ballet dancer stereotype. At 5' 6" with long, slender limbs and androgynous facial features, they didn't necessarily resemble a Romeo or an Albrecht. And deep down, they still harbored the dream of dancing Juliet or Giselle.
So, during quarantine in the spring and summer of 2020, Ashton embarked on a rigorous self-directed training program. They sought out online pointe technique videos, studying them carefully. A friend gave Ashton her old pointe shoes, and every day they'd go outside to the patio to practice what they'd seen in the videos.
"I was out there for six hours a day, as soon as the sun came out," says Ashton. "And I realized, maybe this dream is possible."
So, last fall Ashton approached Boal and Bolstad with a proposition: The dancer would continue with the official men's curriculum if the school would allow them to pursue pointe classes, as well. And they showed the teachers what they'd learned over the summer.
"I had no hesitation," Boal remembers. "If anyone had said to me 'This student has danced on pointe for just nine months and this is what they're able to do,' I wouldn't believe it!"
The Lewis and Clark of the Ballet World
Since classes resumed last September, Ashton has juggled a rigorous schedule: two days a week they take pointe class with their Professional Division female colleagues; the other three days they're working with the male students, although sometimes they take that class in pointe shoes as well.
Former PNB principal dancer Jonathan Porretta, one of Ashton's instructors, says he never knew his student wanted to dance on pointe until last fall, when Ashton started posting photos to their Instagram account.
Porretta says he has always approached teaching his classes outside male and female roles. For him, ballet is about working toward technique and developing the artist.
For his part, Porretta calls Ashton a "star," someone he believes can help pave a new future for men, and women, in ballet. Porretta says it's time for the art form to loosen its hide-bound gender roles.
"There will be some companies very ready to be thrust into the future of dance, while others are more set in their ways," Porretta says. "But art is here to push boundaries and possibilities."
PNB soloist Joshua Grant agrees. Years ago, when he was a young student, Grant's ballet teacher suggested he take pointe classes to help strengthen his ankles. He loved dancing on pointe, but professionally it didn't seem like an option for him. In 2006, after stints with both PNB and National Ballet of Canada, Grant auditioned for, and was hired by, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, the all-male troupe known for its campy send-ups of classic ballets.
"I was told it would be career suicide," Grant recalls, because "men on pointe? That's either drag or comedy."
After five years as a principal dancer with the Trocks, Grant returned to PNB, where he's back to performing traditional male roles and developing his own choreographic career. He's currently creating a dance for Ashton and some of their fellow students, for Next Step, PNB's choreographers' showcase. Ashton will be on pointe. Like Porretta, Grant is excited that a young dancer like Ashton is eager to push to transform a centuries-old art form.
"I told Ashton, 'You're like Lewis and Clark, making your own path,'" Grant says. "'There's no precedent, so do what you want to do.'"
Looking Ahead
Ashton is hoping to embark on a career dancing with companies that will cast them not only in gender-blind contemporary work, but in the traditional roles from ballet's classical canon, everything from Odette/Odile in Swan Lake to the long-coveted Clara in The Nutcracker.
"I want to be part of changing, evolving those traditions to modern day life," says Ashton. "We can preserve those ballets, those classic works, but also make them reflect our modern world."
Boal believes in Ashton's ability to be a ballet change-maker; more than that, he's convinced that ballet has to welcome gender-blind casting and men performing on pointe as more than a novelty act.
"We're not going to laugh at this or point at it," Boal says. "We're going to admire it, and eventually we're not even going to talk about it as something out of the ordinary, as it continues to evolve."
Despite the support Ashton has received in their quest to be a nonbinary professional dancer, landing a job is tough for any ballet student, let alone for a Black dancer. But Ashton professes faith that they can make their dreams come true.
"I just decided, my entire life, this is what I'm going to do. This makes me happy, so I have to do it," Ashton says. "There is no other way I can exist."
lee donghyuck x reader, ft. johnny and dreamies
description. I’m working at an arcade, but I’m also the top scorer of the DDR machine. It was easy to guard my position till a sudden regular comes by and tries to beat it. But we somehow ended up at the beach?
genre. angst (at first), fluff, arcade au, strangers to lovers au
word count. 8.2k
a/n. hEllOo i felt like writing this just because i crave going to the arcade but its way too expensive for my broke ass so i can only write what i wish :’) so eNjoY!!
Tumblr media
“How do you still have the energy to play that?” I hear the familiar voice and footsteps walking towards the DDR machine where I was at. I glance to him for a moment, seeing him sipping on his Starbucks coffee.
“Working at an arcade is probably the easiest job ever.” I breathe out, my eyes and feet concentrated on the game. I feel Johnny’s hand leaning on the handle behind me while he watches me.
“Isn’t that obvious?” Johnny mutters sarcastically. I stomp on the last beat and wait impatiently for my score, the numbers increasing at an extremely fast rate.
“No fucking way!” Johnny exclaims, his hand beating the handle vigorously as the two of us see the final score. I chuckle and got off the plate, snatching Johnny’s coffee from him to take a sip.
“I’m amazing.” I say with utter confidence, shoving the coffee back on Johnny’s chest, causing him to fall back a little while I make my way to the staff’s room.
Johnny silently follows behind me, waiting in front of the counter while I grab my bag and check if I left anything behind before going up to him. “Thanks for always fetching me from work.” Johnny and I made our way out of the arcade. I didn’t bother to close up since it was my other colleague’s job anyways.
“Yeah so where’s my pay?” Johnny puts his hand out and motions it to me as if he’s asking for money. I roll my eyes and faked my exasperation. “You aren’t my Grab driver so shut it.” I nudged my elbow to Johnny’s as the two of us chuckle and left the mall.
While Johnny’s driving me home, the two of us didn’t speak, with only music coming from the radio can be heard. Johnny clears his throat suddenly. I assume he was trying to break the silence so I turn my head to him and wait for him to say something.
“One question.” Johnny stated. I hum as a sign for him to continue. “Has anyone ever tried breaking your score on the DDR before?”
I pucker my lips as I try to think of an answer, quietly laughing to myself after thinking about it. Johnny raise an eyebrow at me, confused at my sudden laughter. “Plenty of times actually. But no one has ever officially beaten it.” I answer with a scoff.
“It’s so funny watching people get curious about KSY. They would never guess that it could be a worker at the arcade.” I elaborate. Johnny laughs, now knowing why I was laughing to myself earlier.
“Let’s make a bet.” Johnny suddenly announces, his eyes off the road and to you, a mischievous grin appearing on his face. I copy his expression, tilting my head to the side. “Bet on what, John?”
“The first person that beats your score.” Johnny replies nonchalantly. “Within three months, if someone actually beats you, I win. If not, then I don’t.”
“What’s the prize for winning?”
“If I win, you get me an unlimited arcade card like yours.”
I gape my mouth at his statement, gasping and widening my eyes. A card is used as an access system in the arcade, meaning that you need to have money in your card and scan it on the machine as payment before you can play. Having an unlimited card meant that you didn’t have to pay for any of the games at all.
“You do know that’s for staff only right? It’s off limits. Choose another prize.”
Johnny simply shrugs, clearly saying that he doesn’t care how rare the card is, as long as he could get it. “If I lose, I’ll treat you to all the bubble tea you want for three months.” Johnny raises his hand that was laying on his thigh and slicing it through the air.
I bite the inside of my right cheek as I thought about the bet. I already knew I’d win. In my whole two years of working there and playing DDR, no one has beaten me. Not once. And I never needed to try hard to keep my title. But for the fun of if, I accepted. Who knows? Maybe someone will sweep me off my feet unexpectedly.
Tumblr media
Two months have passed and the bet Johnny made with me still stands. I had my eyes on the DDR machine every time someone gets on. Half of them played for the fun of it while the other are trying their best to beat me. But I could tell from their moves that they didn’t have what it took to even reach my standard.
“Honestly let’s just call off the bet and have me win.” I tell Johnny who’s here during my break since he wanted to visit me. I rest my chin on the palm of my hand as my body leans forward on the counter and my eyes fixated on the DDR machine which currently has no one playing.
“Bitch I still have a month to prove that one person- One person, can beat you.” Johnny holds out his index finger, shoving it in my face with fury. I heaved a sigh. Johnny’s a determined man indeed.
Just as Johnny and I were talking about having dinner after I get off work, a guy walks in the arcade. I don’t know why but, he caught my eye. I glanced at him but did a double-take instantly.
He comes striding in with a lazy posture, hands in his black jeans while he wears a white shirt and black leather jacket. The most outstanding feature of his is the face. That was probably the reason why he caught my eye in the first place.
He goes to the top up machine, probably to put money in his card. And the first place he goes to is the DDR machine. Suddenly, Johnny starts slapping my arm vigorously. My unimpressed reaction didn’t seem stop him. “We should watch him! He’s going to play.” Johnny seems so excited that he’s jumping a little.
“Oh my God calm down.” I smack Johnny’s arm hard, making him wince in pain but recovered soon enough and quiet down.
The guy stands on the plate and scans his card, shoving it in his front pocket. He starts choosing a song. To my surprise, he chooses the song that I played yesterday with a level difficulty of hard. Clearly, he’s aim is to beat my score.
Someone from the entrance suddenly calls out a name. The guy turned his head to the voice, raising his hand up to greet the other while he walks towards the DDR machine. I couldn’t hear what they were saying due to the sounds from the other games that dominates the whole arcade.
He finally starts to play. The moment he presses on the first beat, my mouth gaps open. My jaw practically dropped to the floor due to the wave of shock I suddenly felt. Whoever he is, he’s definitely a professional at DDR. His feet moves at immense speed as he hits every single beat perfectly, his hands casually chilling on the handle.
He seems unfazed by the difficulty of the song, tilting his head while he watches the screen, as if boring his eyes into it. “I can’t believe this...” I mutter in awe, completely mesmerised by the way the guy moves.
A large crowd slowly starts to gather around him as everyone whispers to each other and being amazed. He hits the final beat. Claps and cheers can be heard from all over the arcade. All the attention went to him and the screen as everyone waits anxiously for the score.
“Seems like he can beat you.” Johnny whispers to me, his elbow nudging on mine. I let out a ‘tsk’ and throw him a glare. “Let’s see the score first.”
The numbers increase rapidly. It going as high as mine usually would. The number finally stops as it enlarges on the screen. Disappointing sighs and noises can be heard.
“Five points away?!” Johnny shouts unbelievably. I place a hand on my chest and give myself time to get my breathing back to normal. “That was so close. Too close.” I say.
The crowd starts to disperse as the arcade goes back to its normal state with only the one guy that called him out at the entrance. The guy gets off the plate as I would just assume the other to be his friend, patting his shoulder as a sign of a job well done.
The two proceeded to play other games and exit two hours later. I didn’t have my eye on them the whole time, obviously. But I wouldn’t be surprise if he comes by regularly from now on to try and beat my score. On top of that, I’d be intrigued if I get to see a new face around here more often. At least I’ll have someone with breathtaking looks to admire about if work gets boring.
Tumblr media
Since it’s a Monday, the arcade is not crowded. Meaning that I’d have a lot more free time. I decide to do the homework that I have for the holidays. All I can think about is completing it all so that I can focus on work and get money.
Money. That is all I care about honestly.
However, my eyes lifted off my math paper to meet the eyes of him. The guy that almost beat my score. This is the second time I’m seeing him since he didn’t come by for a week after the huge uproar he brought to the arcade.
Our eyes only met for a split second before he walks by. My eyes are still on him, watching his back. His extremely good looking face still amazes me nonetheless. He didn’t play the DDR machine, and instead went to the motorcycle one. He stayed there for quite some time actually. He didn’t play other games.
I continue to do my homework. Just when I’m going to place my pen on the paper, I hear the sound of the DDR machine. I lifted my head up again, seeing him standing on the plate. He picked the same song, same difficulty. Is he going to try again?
The music starts and he starts moving his feet. I’m still amazed by him. It felt like I was watching him play for the first time. It’s shocking how I’ve never seen someone this good come by the arcade ever. It felt refreshing in a way. He felt like a competitor almost. He gets me anxious when I see him play.
The music finally ends. I wait for the score. The moment I did, my pen drops. My fingers releasing its grip on it as my eyes widen and blinked rapidly.
He jumps on the plate happily, seeing the score as his username goes up the rank and tops mine. He ran a hand through his hair flawlessly. How is he still looking so good after playing that intensely? I have mixed feelings about this.
I start to grow furious. The title I’ve been holding on to for so long suddenly got snatched away. Now that— just set off the competitive side of me. He’s definitely a challenge, an opponent. No doubt in that. I didn’t need to watch him play any more to know that.
He jumps off the plate, shaking one leg recklessly and did the same to the other. He turns his head back, seeing his username as the top ranked.
LDH. I’ll have to take note of that username
Before he left, his eyes scans across the arcade. His eyes meets mine and we made eye contact again. He lets out a small smile. A very small and effortless one. He looks extremely proud of himself, almost arrogant in fact. I’m pissed at him but I couldn’t get the fact that he’s good looking out of my mind.
Well, that settles it. I’m going to get my title back the moment I end my shift.
Later that night, the moment my shift ended, to be honest it didn’t exactly matter since my boss would only come by an hour later, I immediately went to the DDR machine, scanned my card and played.
I played vigorously. With immense concentration. My only thought was to keep LDH off my rank. My top rank. I played so seriously that I didn’t even notice Johnny coming in to pick me up.
“Are you mad or something? Letting off steam?” Johnny asks when I finish and wait for my score, almost sounding concern with how I played. “You won.” I let out.
Johnny doesn’t reply, probably taking his time to process what I meant. “I won the bet?!” Johnny finally shouts. My score appears on the screen. Luckily, my rank went back up to the top. Johnny looks at the screen and laughs hysterically, slapping his thighs and clapping.
“It’s that guy, isn’t it?! The handsome dude!” Johnny skips behind me while I went to the back to grab my stuff. I got back to him and run a hand through my hair, taking deep breaths. “I’ll get you your card, damn it.” I suspire in defeat.
“I remember him clearly because of how attractive he is. What a refreshing sight for the town.”
No shit, Sherlock.
Johnny leans down and places a quick friendly peck on my cheek, causing me to furrow my eyebrows and scrunch up my nose in disgust.
“So, how about bubble tea tonight?” I stop in my tracks, sharply turning a full forty five degrees to Johnny. He flinches back and shivers at my sudden move.
“Bubble tea? I thought I won’t be getting any.” I say with suspicion filling my tone, a raised brow as well as narrowed eyes. Johnny chuckles and shakes his head, bringing a hand out to pat my head.
“I said I’d treat you to all the bubble tea you want for three months. But I didn’t say I won’t treat you if you lost the bet.” Johnny replies casually.
I grin widely and link my arm around his. “Let’s skip our way to the car, shall we?” Johnny could only laugh.
We bought our bubble tea and decided to just sit on the roadside in front of the store. The two of us stare into the night sky, comfortable silence filled the air.
“Hey.” Johnny suddenly lets out. I bring my head down to look at him. “Aren’t you curious to find out who LDH is?”
I raise a brow in confusion. “I already know him? His looks make him unforgettable.” I say, swirling my drink around.
“No, idiot. I meant his name. LDH must be his nickname or initials.”
I look up and start to think about it. Johnny waits silently for my answer, hearing him sipping on his drink and chewing on the pearls. “Mm I can’t think of a korean name who’s initials are LDH.” I reply back
“I don’t know. I’ll have to get to know him soon if he’s going to come back.” I let out.
“Maybe he’ll see that I topped him.” I mutter with a light shrug.
And of course, he did. He comes back the next day and goes to the DDR machine. His eyes are stuck to the screen. I assume he’s surprised and confused as to how his rank dropped back down to second place in the span of one night.
He jerks his head to the side and take no hesitation to scan his card. Wanting to be the first again. You would think I am surprise to find out that he scored higher than me, but I wasn’t. I knew he was capable, and a strong competitor.
Once again I had to play after my shift to claim back my rank. And after that day, it got hectic. He would come by everyday and see that I’ve been ranked first. And he’ll have to play again. It went back and forth. Everyday it felt as though I was competing with him. And he never seems to give up either.
Over the days, people would come by and have looks of confusion, question marks floating around them as they wonder why KSY and LDH keep switching ranks every single day.
There was no end to this. It feels like I’ve been doing it for months (though it has only been three weeks). Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t tired of playing DDR. I’m just annoyed at the guy who keeps wanting to steal my rank.
He’s without a doubt the first person that has ever shaken me off my calm pride.
Haechan and Jaemin decides to have a lunch date with Jaemin’s brother, Mark. The three eat happily, talking about how each of their lives are going.
“What have you been doing? It’s your school holidays, isn’t it?” Mark asks Haechan, scraping off every last bit of food on his plate.
“I’ve just been going to the arcade.” Haechan replies simply. Jaemin suddenly slams his hand in front of Mark, making him flinch in shock as it seems like Jeno wants to tell Mark something.
“I saw him play DDR. He was amazing! He even beat the top ranker who apparently hasn’t had anyone beaten them for two years!” Jaemin exclaims. Mark gapes his mouth open in shock as a wide smile appears on his lips.
Mark reaches his hand out to pat Haechan on the side of his arm. “Those dance lessons seem to pay off, huh?”
Haechan nods happily, but his expression soon changes to a weird one that Jaemin and Mark couldn’t make out. “But you know...” Haechan starts.
“Every single day I come by, I always find my rank going back to second. I kid you not the top scorer that I beat always comes back to play and rank first. It’s tiring how I have to constantly play to beat them.” Haechan complains, scratching his head and ruffling his hair.
“Look at you being all furious because of your competitive ass.” Jaemin teases. Haechan could only throw him a death glare.
“Maybe they come by everyday too? I mean of course they would want to keep their position as the best one at DDR.” Mark shrugs. He picks up his drink, wanting to take a sip but realises that he already finished it and went to place it back down on the table with a slight frown.
“How?! I come by everyday but I see no regulars there!” Haechan shouts softly, he would have been screaming if he’s not in a restaurant right now.
“I agree. I mean I don’t go there often but whenever I do I don’t see anyone that goes there everyday like Haechan.” Jaemin adds.
“It’s like it changes overnight!”
The table grows silent. Haechan’s eyes were specifically on Mark, wanting to see his reaction to this. Mark leans in, glancing down at the table before meeting Haechan’s eyes. “I’d say you just stay there the whole day and wait for this KSY to play.”
A line appears in between Haechan’s brows as his forehead creases, looking skeptical. “You want me to stay there from the time they open to when they close?! Mark that’s like ten hours.” Haechan shakes his head and waves a lazy hand to Mark.
“It’s not a bad idea. You don’t know when KSY comes so the only way you can know is if you stay the whole time.” Jaemin adds.
“You go there everyday. It shouldn’t be a problem.”
Haechan sighs and looks down on his empty plate. If he’s going to settle this once and for all with KSY, he’ll have to meet him at some point. He guess that this was the only way.
“It’s worth the shot.”
Unfortunately, I had to work the whole shift from morning till night today. But it didn’t really matter to me, since I know I’ll be seeing LDH again today.
To my surprise, he’s the first one here. And I just opened the arcade an hour ago. I couldn’t help but wonder who would come this early. Usually people would start coming in at least three hour after it opens.
His hair looked messy, yet it’s able to frame his face perfectly. His features still effortlessly beautiful despite wearing a baggy sweater and sweatpants.
He goes to play other games. He’s been playing for two hours now before leaving the arcade. I assume he left completely but he comes back with a McDonald takeaway, bringing it to the lounge area and eating breakfast there.
I found it extremely suspicious. I have never seen anyone acting like this in arcade before. Was it some kind of challenge? To stay in the arcade the whole time?
Hours went by, I did my work as usual. He’s still here. Sometimes he would be playing, and sometimes he would be in the lounge area. What surprised me the most is that he’s constantly looking at the DDR machine. His eyes immediately went there the moment someone stood on the plate. It looks like he’s keeping track of who’s going there. And I can only wonder why the whole day.
It’s now closing hours. My colleagues and I are cleaning our assigned areas and doing our jobs. I make my way to the lounge area.
I open the door and his eyes instantly went off his phone and to mine. “We’re closing now. You should get going.”
His lips form a thin line. Again he moves his head aside, looking at the DDR machine. I turn my head back, acting as if I didn’t know what he’s looking at. “You’ve been here the whole day. Care to tell me why?” I ask, going to the trashcan in the corner and taking out the plastic bag.
“Uh no reason. I’ll leave.” He simply say, rising from the couch and walking past me.
“Why didn’t they come today...?” I hear him mutter as he scratches his head. He leaves the lounge area. I look back, watching him walk out the arcade.
My lips purse into a thin line as I try to make out what he said to himself? Was he waiting for someone? He was looking at the DDR machine the whole day.
As I walk out to throw away the trash, I didn’t take me long to figure out why. “Was he looking for me?” I ask to myself. A wide smirk appears on my lips absentmindedly as I giggle softly, walking back to the arcade and seeing Johnny waiting for me by the counter.
“You’ll never guess what happened today.”
I see Johnny holding my bag in his hand. I assume he went to the back and took it for me. He hands it to me as we walk out of the arcade. “What happened?” Johnny asks curiously.
“Handsome dude was in the arcade the whole day.” I answer, brushing away strands of hair from my forehead. “The whole day?! Since you opened?”
I nod instantly. Johnny looks up to the sky with a weird face. “I mean I know he has the lounge area but being there for ten hours?”
I let out a chuckle. “He eats breakfast, lunch and dinner there too.”
“Why would he do that though? Does he not have a life?” That’s when my wide smirk appears again. Johnny gives a suspicious look to my reaction.
“He was looking for KSY.” Johnny’s mouth gapes open, laughing hysterically after a moment of just staring at me in disbelief. “Are you serious?! He waited all day and he doesn’t even know that it’s you!” The two of us laugh for a whole minute, finding it funny and unbelievable.
“I feel bad though. He didn’t even play DDR today.” I comment. “Won’t be surprised if he comes back today and stays there again.”
“You’re so mean if you just let him wait and not find out that it’s you.” Johnny shoves a hand in his pocket.
I bob my shoulders and shrug. “We’ll see how long he can hold up then.”
The next day, he comes back again. He did the same routine. Getting meals and staying in the lounge area. He did play some games, but his attention was solely on the DDR machine. I don’t know how he’s not sick of doing this since it’s been a week now. Though I find it funny at first, I started to feel bad for him.
“Are you perhaps waiting for someone?” I ask, wanting to tease him a little as I walk in the lounge room. His body slumps into the soft couch. He grabs a pillow from behind and hugs it tight.
“No shit I’ve been waiting for a week for this person to show up.” He mumbles in frustration. Letting out a soft chuckle, I fold my arms and shifted my weight onto one leg.
“Is he or she a regular like you?”
His eyes slowly lifts off from the pillow and to me, going from the bottom up before meeting my eyes and glaring. “I guess? I don’t know. They keep getting back their rank in DDR after I take it. It’s driving me insane.”
I laugh, quickly covering it by looking behind and changing my expression back to a composed one. “What’s your name?” He raises a brow at my sudden question. “Lee Donghyuck.”
“Or just Haechan.”
My mouth opens slightly as I let out a soft “Ah...” while nodding my head. Beautiful name for a beautiful face. At least now I know what his initials meant. “I feel bad so it looks like I have to tell you.”
“Tell me what...?” I start walking closer to the couch, bending down to meet his eye level. He looks at me suspiciously with his blank expression.
“KSY is me.” I let out, grinning widely.
Haechy tilts his head to the side, his eyes looking at me up and down as he blinks rapidly and scoffs in disbelief. “There’s no way.” He runs a hand down his face and glances to the side constantly. I puts a finger in front of me, moving it up and down. “You? A worker? KSY?!”
I nod, bringing all my hair down to one shoulder. I open the door, turning my head to Haechan and jerking my head to the side. “Aren’t you going out?” I couldn’t help but think about how funny his face looks right now.
The two of us stare at each other for at least fifteen seconds before Haechan shakes his head vigorously and stands up, dashing past me and out of the room. I turn back to look at it one last time before switching off the lights and leaving as well.
“So you’re KSY? The annoying one that keeps ranking first after I beat you?!” Haechan exclaims. I laugh, clapping my hands and nodding happily. Jaemin runs a hand through his hair. “I can’t believe this.”
“Of course you won’t. Who would’ve thought it’s a worker?” I lift my shoulders up and give a cheeky smile. Haechan folds his arms as he stands in front of me. “I don’t know if I’m currently mad or surprised.”
“I can confirm it’s both.” I say with confidence. Since Johnny’s busy tonight, I unfortunately have to go home alone.
“Let’s battle.” Haechan suddenly announces with a smug and arrogant look on his face. I scoff. “You should really just be happy you’re second. You know I’ll just take back the first ranking instantly after you beat it.” I satire.
Haechan frowns and lifts a finger in front of me, waving it in my face while he shakes his head. “The one who wins the battle gets to claim the top for life. We’ll settle it once and for all.”
I nod my head slowly while I grab my things and head out. For some reason he’s following me. “Hello? I need an answer.” Haechan lets out, running up and walking beside me. I turn my head and give him an unimpressed smile. “Fine then. Though I can only play once my shift ends so.”
Haechan claps his hands once and shouts, making me flinch back slightly at his loud voice. “So that’s why it keeps changing overnight!”
I brought a palm to my forehead. “Duh.” I deadpan.
“I’ll see you tomorrow night then.” Haechan walks in front of me, walking backwards while he gives a cheeky winks and runs off.
I scoff and raise an eyebrow as I watch him running out of the mall. I shove my hands in my pockets and tilt my head. He’s interesting.
Tumblr media
“Oi! You guys won’t belive what I just found out!” Haechan burts into the dorms, dashing to the living room where all the members gathered.
“What now, Haechan?” Chenle asks sarcastically, slamming a card down on the table. “It’s your turn Renjun.” The room grows silent as Renjun squints his eyes while trying to find a card. “Plus four for you, Jeno!”
Haechan steals a seat from Jeno, pushing him off to the side and slamming both hands palms down on the table. All heads instantly turning to Haechan. “Are you guys seriously playing Uno without me?!” He places a hand on his chest and gasps with a sarcastic shocking look.
“Jaemin told us that you’re going to be at the arcade the whole day so we were having fun by ourselves.” Jeno adds, pushing Haechan away slightly so that he’ll have some space at the table.
“Anyways! I finally found out who KSY is!”
Everyone lets out a sigh in unison. Haechan narrows his eyes at his members’ weird reaction. “It’s been a week. That took you long.” Jisung replies.
“Do you guys want to guess who?” A wide smile appears on Haechan’s lips as he waits for his friends. “A guy with strong arms like Jeno?” Jaemin asks back, resting his elbow on Jeno’s shoulder while he leans in close to Jeno’s face. Jeno turns his head to Jaemin and smiles softly before roughly throwing his elbow off.
Haechan shakes his head vigorously. “A nerd?” Renjun guesses, bobbing his shoulders. Heachan gives the same answer.
“Just tell us already, idiot!” Chenle reaches his hand out to smack Haechan in the head lightly. Haechan lets out a loud ‘tsk’. “It’s a girl. And she’s working at the arcade.”
The room grows silent once again. Some had their eyes widen with opened mouth while the rest had a blank expression that Haechan assumes to be their ‘disbelief faces’.
“You serious? A girl?” Jisung’s the first to speak, a hand moving up slowly to cover his mouth. Haechan nods. “Can you believe a girl can have that much strength to be ranked first?!” Haechan exclaims.
“Well that was unexpected.” Jeno adds. Renjun replies with a similar comment as well. “There’s more!”
No one replies, urging Haechan to continue. “I’m going to have a battle with her tomorrow night!” This time, everyone’s faces become mors shocked than before. “Oh my God we should all go!” Jaemin smiles widely while clapping his hands.
“I’m so down to see Haechan get wrecked by a girl.” Chenle says with a slight smirk. Haechan stands up and walks to him, sitting down next to him to give a smack on the head, making Chenle wince due to the force.
“You don’t know that. He’s been switching the first place ranking with her for so long. Anything can happen.” Jeno retorts lazily with a shrug. “Thank you for the nice word of encouragement, Jeno.”
“I said anything can happen. You still have the chance of losing.” Jeno adds on carelessly, causing the group to burst out laughing. Haechan rolls his eyes. “Whatever. Just follow me to the arcade tomorrow.”
Everyones nods their heads, looking over at Haechan. He smiles widely and claps his hand once. “Alright it’s settled. Now let’s play some Uno.” Haechan beats his hand on the table.
Renjun gathers up all the card and starts shuffling them.
Before my shift starts, I went to play a few rounds of DDR machine to warm my legs up for the game I’ll have with Haechan tonight. I’m not sure if I’m excited to be battling against such a handsome guy or be scared at the fact that he can actually beat me. I know I won’t be able to play anymore so this morning’s my only chance to prepare.
I texted Johnny during lunch, telling him about the unexpected battle i’ll be having. He replies me instantly with a, I’ll be there by seven! Can’t wait to watch you! I chuckle at his reply and continued to work till evening.
It’s seven now and as promised, Johnny shows up from work. “You ready?” Johnny asks.
I crack my neck swiftly and nod my head. “Ready to beat Lee Donghyuck.”
“So that’s his name?” Johnny asks again, looking slightly surprised. I frown and shrug my shoulders. “Apparently so.”
Johnny and I had our eyes on the DDR machine, no words being exchanged for about three minutes. “What time is he coming though?” Johnny turns question me.
“I’m not sure. He told me he’ll be here at night.” I reply simply, resting my chin on the palm of my hand. Johnny copies my posture as the two of us allow time to pass by with talking about anything.
Johnny eyes suddenly widen. So wide that it looks scary to me, as his finger point to the back of me. I turn around to the entrance. I see Haechan walking in, though I feel slightly intimidated with who he brought in. They looked like a gang or something.
Haechan raises a hand and waves at me. I bowed my head slightly in response. All of them head to where Johnny and I were at.
“So this is her?” One of them ask with a skeptical brow. Haechan nods bringing a hand up to motion go me. “Yeah! She’s... Uh sorry I didn’t get your name last time.” Haechan stutters.
“Oh it’s _____” I reply with a soft smile. All of them nod their heads. “When we starting? I wanna watch you and Haechan!” The small figured one asks with excitement filling his tone.
“Should go warm up first. She’ll smash you if you don’t.” Johnny brags out, placing his elbow on my shoulder and using my height as a leaning device for him. “He scares me. Look he’s so tall.” The same guy voices out, pointing to Johnny.
Johnny gasps, overreacting. “Told you that you look intimidating. You’re too tall.” I say, forcefully shoving his elbow off me. “Not my fault!” Johnny whines. Haechan nods his head and goes to the DDR machine, his friends following behind him.
Johnny and I were still behind the counter, so comfortable in our seats that we’ll practically whine if we’re dragged off. We both had our serious faces on in a way to intimidate them. But that’s a fail since everyone had their eyes on Haechan as he scans his card and picks a song.
“Saving your energy?!” I shout across to them, noticing that he picked a relatively simple song at medium difficulty. Haechan turns around and smirks widely. Not sure whether to find that hot or annoying. “Of course.” Haechan shouts back, a chuckle appearing slightly after.
I wasn’t actually paying attention to him play. My eyes are glued to my phone screen while I scroll through Twitter to catch up on the drama I’ve missed. Time felt like it flew by in a second when Haechan call up my name. I tilt my head up, seeing him motioning one hand up that signaled me to go there. I place my phone screen down on the counter and make my way to the DDR machine, with Johnny following behind me and joining Haechan’s group of friends that’s surrounding the plate.
“Song?” Haechan asks. I jerk my head to the side, leaning back and placing my hands on the handle behind me. “Your pick.” I reply casually. Haechan chuckles and starts browsing through, picking a song in no time, difficulty level on high and setting the game to battle mode.
The screen starts showing the countdown in both screens. Haechan and I lowered our bodies in a stance position as the numbers start going down from ten.
5... 4... 3... 2... 1...
“Go!” Everyone shouts in unison.
The amount of concentration I had in this game shocked me. The last time I put in this much effort into something was my finals this year. I didn’t bother looking at Haechan since I’m focusing on myself only, making sure my feet were in sync and I’m getting a ‘Super perfect’ every time.
Everyone’s silent, only the music filling the entire arcade. The song finally ends, Haechan and I desperately gasping for air while the rest gives up an applause. Our heads shot up to the screen, seeing the numbers on both screens increasing rapidly.
“Woah!” Johnny shouts. My eyes widen, making sure I’m seeing the score correctly. I immediately jump happily and off the plate, going to Johnny and slapping his chest with my arms. “I won!”
Haechan and his group of friends are currently silent, with Haechan’s heavy breathing to be the only noise surrounding them. Disappointing sighs and groans came soon after.
“Get off the district of this town!” I burst at them mockingly with a devil-like laughter. Haechan runs a hand through his locks, shaking his head vigorously and glancing upwards before turning to me.
“You win.” Haechan mumbles in defeat. I giggle and walk over to him, lightly punching the side of his arm. “You did well.” I reassure Haechan. He suspires once again. “I don’t owe you anything then?”
“Oh right we didn’t discuss the prize!”
I fold my arms and look up, proceeding to think. “Treat me a meal. And bubble tea. For three months.” I cock up both eyebrows with an evil smirk. Haechan scoffs, refusing to believe that’s my request. “I mean I did make a bet with Johnny and since I lost that I am now going to take advantage of this situation.” I lean back slightly with one shoulder down.
“Fine.”
Tumblr media
I got his number and we made a decision of meeting at the bus stop today. I’m the first here, looking down at my phone while I scroll down my playlist to find a song to play. It wasn’t even twenty seconds in till a finger taps on my shoulder.
I frown slightly, not being able to listen to my favourite song but quickly smile as I see Haechan taking a seat beside me. “Where we headed?” I ask curiously. I did say to me out for a meal, but he didn’t specify where. “Are you okay with travelling on the bus for about an hour?” Haechan questions me back.
I shrug my shoulders, leaning back against the glass behind the seat. “I love long bus rides.” Haechan nods his head and grins. “Good. I have a perfect place.”
“Aren’t going to kidnap me are you?” Haechan chuckles at my skepticism. “Want me to do that?” I furrow my eyebrows, laughing softly after and shaking my head.
A few minutes of silence passes by. I hate the awkwardness that filled the gap between us. Luckily, Haechan stands up suddenly, signaling that the bus has arrived.
We got in and took a random spot. Haechan allows me to sit inside, motioning his hand out to the seat. So he’s good looking and a gentleman? Shit.
“You’re seriously really good at DDR.” Haechan suddenly speaks up. I pucker my lips. “Been playing ever since I worked at the arcade. Which was two years ago.”
Haechan clicks his tongue. “I’m guessing you like music a lot?” I nod in reply. “Very. It’s like my emotional support for when I sometimes feel like jamming my head into the wall.” Haechan laughs loudly at my comment, surprised at my unique, but also not, humor.
“I love music, too. I actually sing.” I widen my eyes at his sentence. Haechan chuckles for a quick moment. “You won’t hear it, unfortunately. I only sing for my friends.” I let out a pout, punching him in the chest gently. “Oh come on. I beat you at DDR that day. Why not let me listen to you as a bonus?” I wink at him playfully. Haechan huffs. “When we get there, then.” He shrugs. I giggle and look out the window. Once again silence overtook us.
Haechan and I wear our earpieces at the same time, proceeding to look down at our phone and playing a song. My eyes were looking out the window, admiring the plain view of the town. I wasn’t sure how much time has passed, but I know for a fact that I went through a lot of my songs in my playlist already.
Suddenly, a beach comes into view. I see the sand and the sky, to make things better it’s currently sunset hour. Beautiful colour and shades from red to yellow and even pink filling the sky, matching the vibe of the beach perfectly.
Haechan taps in my shoulder and jerks his head to the side, telling me this is our stop. The two of us got down and remove our earpieces, the bus driving past us and the view returning back. “We’re eating by the beach?!” I question Haechan.
He smiles softly. I look down at his outfit. His shorts and button up shirt suiting the location perfectly, along with his hair that framed his face and eventuates his features beautifully.
“Come on.” Haechan grabs my wrist and drags me off, having me to run while he picks up the speed. I laugh, somewhat happy that he brought me here.
Haechan slows down, his hand still on my wrist as we end up in front of an open restaurant. There isn’t any inside, only the kitchen and serving area being hidden by walls. The place is beautiful. It was fairy lights hanging over the wooden ceiling that was bare to allow us to see the night sky, colourful wooden planks as the floor and wooden chairs and tables. There’s also swings and hammocks too. It’s the whole vibe of the place that’s bringing me so much happiness.
I guess it’s too obvious when I feel Haechan swinging an arm around my shoulders. “Already liking it I see.” He leans down to whisper to me. His voice sounded normal but it sent shivers down my spine and his voice echoed in my head while he leads me to a seat.
I sit down while he takes the seat opposite mine. He leans forward against the table, his elbows resting on his casually. “Trust me, the food here is great.” Haechan speaks. “The best I’ve had so far.” He adds, bringing a hand up and slicing it in the air, sticking his tongue out slightly.
I simply smile and nod, looking around the place after as I still couldn’t believe that I’m here. It’s been so long since I’ve been in such an atmosphere so it really did an impact on me. “Are you like popular in the DDR realm?” I suddenly ask, my head shooting down to him. Heachan lifts the side of his lips ever so slightly. “I mean in a few towns where I took over all the arcade mall.”
“Talented indeed.”
We ordered our food and ate. Surprisingly, we were able to talk a lot. We didn’t have an exact topic. We just speak whatever came to our mind. Haechan really did keep up the conversation well and it wasn’t hard to talk to him at all. I liked it. Quite a lot actually.
I only thought of eating and going home. But now, I just can’t pass up the chance of just sitting by the beach. And that’s what we did. We borrowed a matt from the restaurant and sat on it while looking out into the scenery ahead of us.
It got windy as the night settles in, the cold breeze passing by and making contact with my skin that made me feel at ease almost instantly. “You do this often? Going to the beach?” I whisper, hugging my knees into my chest and laying my chin on one knee. I tilt my head to the side.
“I used to. Until I got busy with life and shit.” Haechan whispers back. I couldn’t help but keep my eyes on him. The way his hair flows and got messy due to the wind, his side profile looking as perfect as I first saw it. And the night sky that served as a background for him to shine.
“Why not we have a battle once a week? Or whenever you’re free. Whoever loses treats the other to a mea at the same restaurant.” I suggest. Though my hidden agenda to it was so that I could see Haechan more often.
“I think that’ll be too tiring. Let’s just come here whenever we’re free.” Haechan retorts back, placing his hands behind him and leaning backwards. “We can hang out more.” Did he really just read my mind or something?
I let out a calming sigh, taking a moment to breathe in the sea air and watching the small waves come to shore, with the water reflecting the light of the night.
“I’d love that.”
Tumblr media
Ever since then, I went out with Haechan more often. Going to the same beach, same restaurant and spending time together by the beach, doing anything basically. Though as time passed and we were getting more busy with our separate lives, we never fail to exclude one day from our week just to be with each other.
Our relationship eventually escalated. We naturally started holding hands and giving each other light pecks on the lips, cheeks or forehead. His subtle actions always sending a shock through my body, but it soothed me at the same time as well. My feelings for him bloomed more over time. And Haechan reciprocated it in a heartbeat.
Today was no different. We’re at the beach yet again. But this time, our nosy friends decided to come along.
We are huddled together, everyone relaxing as we watch the scenery. Despite it being the afternoon, the sky, sea and sand is still as beautiful. We spent the day playing a lot of games. Card games, hand games, even burning bridges. We really did everything. And I loved every second of it, since I had Haechan sitting beside me.
“You guys want anything? We should get more drinks.” I say, pointing to the plastic bag that was filled with empty canned drinks and bottles. Everyone nods their head in unison. I smile happily and stand up, wiping the excess sand on my bottom while reaching out to grab the plastic bag.
“Haechan, follow me.” He looks up to me. We had the same thought. Wanting to be alone together. “What am I, a servant for these idiots?” He jokes, though I know he’ll follow me regardless. “Idiots?! Look at you dumbass!” Chenle retorts,
The groups laughs, shaking their heads. Haechan throws them a death glare and immediately sent the group into silence as they see his intimidating expression. He stands up and walks over to me. “Text what you guys want.” I wave my phone up in the air before leaving to the restaurant with Haechan.
“Why did they have to come today? I wanted to be alone with you.” Haechan whines after checking if we’re out of our friends’ sight.
Haechan pulls me close by the waist. I laugh and place my hands on the side of his arms. “We’ve been doing that for so long. They lighten the mood up.”
Haechan frowns but gives a soft peck on the crown of my head. My phone dings. I lifted it to check and see that Mark sent me a list of their wanted drinks. Haechan still had his arm around my waist as he keep me close from the time we ordered to the time we were walking back, putting his arm down till the last second when our friends come into our view.
When we got there and take our seats, the group was oddly silent. All eyes were on us, with suspicious expression on their faces.
“So when are you going to tell us you’re dating?” Jaemin cocks up a brow while everyone folds their arms in unison.
I turn to Haechan, who looks at me as well before looking back to the front. “Huh..?” I say, acting taken aback.
“Don’t lie! I saw you two kissing while I went to the toilet!” Renjun exposes. I scrunch up my face and pout.
Haechan rolls his eyes and leans back. “I thought it was pretty obviously since I ditched a lot of my plans with you guys.” Haechan replies smugly.
“He got stolen by _____ from us!” Jisung huffs out. Haechan and I burst out laughing hysterically.
“He’s better taken away, though.” Jeno adds. Haechan lets out a loud ‘tsk’.
I can only blush and laugh loudly as I watch Haechan beating up Jeno for his comment. Who would’ve thought it be here with a guy when we bonded over a DDR game?
Pick a card mini reading, 3 cards on each pile.
The Greenwood Tarot.
I was planning to upload something yesterday for Summer Solstice but unfortunately I had a bad migraine and I couldn’t get much done at all. I hope you find something helpful in these mini readings. They’re very general and may not resonate with everyone as this is a pick a card reading with only 5 options, but you may find it entertaining.
I hope you all had a great Midsummer!
Dry Rose
Finding healing in connecting with our truth. This is a time for introspection, self-reflection and rest. People drawn to this pile may be feeling drained, tired, spent and/or may be dealing with health issues and deep feelings of loss. Whatever our personal situation, we need to know that this shall pass too. A step at a time makes it, and brings us closer to our full recovery. Despite how isolated we may feel at times, we are surrounded by people who want to support us, and we would do well to reach others and avoid too much time alone. Health and happiness are the daughters of balance. Create greater balance in your life, reconnect with your passions, open your heart. A period of renewed joy lies ahead.
Shell
We’re entering a very rewarding period when we will enjoy the results of our hard work and honest self-analysis.  It hasn’t been easy to get here. We made mistakes, and we learnt from them. We fell, and we got up. We felt weak,  but we’re strong now. We’re more mature and resilient than we were yesterday, and we’re ready to set the foundation of our lives. In our flesh and bones we have a deep understanding of where we come from and where we want to go. We have the drive and energy to move forward confidently. These are exciting times! The only caution though, we should avoid committing to more than we can handle, make sure we get a well deserved rest/holiday,  and make time to celebrate and share our luck with others.
Stone
It’s time to re-balance and realign ourselves with our true nature and passions. We may feel drained and victimized. It’s very likely we could be facing some issues at work, within some social group or even at home. We have allowed others to exploit and abuse our kindness and generosity, and it’s time to take our power back. Reclaim your power and identity back, a new whole way of understanding the world. This could mean a completely different way to relate to work, wealth and money. It is not richer who has the most money or possessions, but who needs less of those. If you have been thinking about quitting your job and follow your dream, this could be your chance. Time to rethink what success really means to us.
Dry Maple Leaf
Those drawn to this pile are entering a very creative period, full of possibilities.  This is a turning point in our lives, when we may have to give up something to make space for something else to come. It may be hard giving up on things and people we’re attached to but we can place our full trust in the universe, the changes ahead are for the best. During this period we may notice some odd synchronicities, we may feel our intuition is heightened and feel he anticipation of what is to come. This is a time to face our demons, connect with our inner warrior and being kind to ourselves. These cards show some emotional turmoil,  fear, confusion sometimes, anxiety and even a bit of a  tendency to over-react too. We may have been dealing with some sort of trauma in the past but good news are we’re getting to the point where we’re gaining greater mental clarity, discipline and inner peace. This is a period when we will discover how strong we are, how smart we are, and when we’ll embody the hero we have been all the way long but we may have forgotten. Fear and anxiety dissipate and we finally raise above our circumstances. Our situation, our experiences, don’t define us, we’re more than that. An experience lasts some time, our souls are eternal.
