When Haroun got the phone call he had been waiting on for almost 10 years, he told the caller to hang up. It was too risky for a Jew in Iran to take such a call — authorities could be monitoring his phone.
“Call me back on WhatsApp,” he said, putting faith in the messaging app’s promise of privacy and encryption.
It was early last year and a representative from the refugee agency HIAS, formerly the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, needed to tell Haroun that his turn had come.
As long as Haroun passed an FBI background check, he’d soon be able to settle in the United States under a special program for persecuted religious minorities. The sudden news came thanks to a decision by the Biden administration to relaunch the so-called Lautenberg Program for Iranians; it had shut down when Donald Trump enacted a travel ban on a group of Muslim-majority countries at the start of his first term in office in 2017.
Haroun was ecstatic. He had tried nearly everything in his quest to leave Iran and come to the United States, unsuccessfully applying for student and work visas.
“It was like seeing a miracle with your own eyes,” he said in a recent interview with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, recalling the moment HIAS called. ”You simply can’t believe what it felt like. All I’ve wanted is to practice my religion freely.”
Haroun, who is in his early 30s, began making preparations in secret, telling almost no one about his plans. When applying for a passport, he lied, telling Iranian authorities he hoped to vacation abroad. They questioned him, but eventually approved his request, allowing him to leave as a tourist.
Haroun made it into the United States, to settle in Los Angeles, in late December, and it was just in time. Three weeks later, on the day Trump returned to the White House, the new president signed an executive order indefinitely suspending the admission of refugees. The order closed the country to 700 Iranian Jews who had applied for refugee status through HIAS, including Haroun’s parents, siblings, and cousins. These Jews were among more than 13,000 applicants from other religious minorities in Iran, including Christians, Baha’is, Sabean-Mandaeans, and Zoroastrians.
Independent information on the status of these groups is hard to come by, but they live under a host of legal restrictions that privilege Muslims. Haroun described a culture of fear gripping Iran’s Jewish community: “Our kids know they are not allowed to talk about their religion to other people,” he said.
Concern about the Jews of Iran spiked last year when authorities executed a young Jewish man who had been convicted of killing a man over money. Critics said the justice system had mishandled his case and that antisemitism played a role in his sentencing.

In today’s fast-paced world, communication plays a pivotal role in personal and professional spheres. Enter WhatsApp AI, a game-changer that is reshaping how individuals, businesses, and organizations interact. Leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance WhatsApp’s capabilities is transforming it from a simple messaging app to a robust tool for automation, customer engagement, and personalized experiences. Let’s dive into the world of WhatsApp AI and explore how it is influencing various aspects of our lives.

AI can also help users stay organized by offering smart notifications and reminders based on their habits and schedules. For instance, it can remind users of upcoming meetings, tasks, or appointments in a personalized and timely manner.
5. E-commerce Integration
AI has transformed WhatsApp into a mini e-commerce hub. With AI-driven solutions, businesses can showcase products, guide users through purchase decisions, and complete transactions—all within the app.
Benefits of WhatsApp AI
Efficiency: Automating repetitive tasks allows businesses to save time and allocate resources more effectively.
Scalability: Businesses can handle a large volume of interactions without compromising on quality.
Cost-Effectiveness: AI reduces the need for extensive human intervention, cutting operational costs.
Improved User Experience: Real-time responses and personalized communication enhance user satisfaction.
Data Insights: AI tools analyze interactions to provide valuable insights for businesses to make data-driven decisions.
Real-World Applications
1. Customer Support
From handling complaints to tracking orders, WhatsApp AI is becoming a trusted assistant for customers and companies alike.
2. Healthcare
Hospitals and clinics use WhatsApp AI to schedule appointments, share reports, and send reminders to patients, ensuring a seamless healthcare experience.
3. Education
Educational institutions are leveraging AI-powered WhatsApp tools for administrative tasks, such as fee reminders, class schedules, and assignment submissions.
4. Travel and Hospitality
Travel agencies use WhatsApp AI to send ticket details, itinerary updates, and hotel booking confirmations, making the travel experience hassle-free.
5. Retail
Retailers are integrating AI into WhatsApp to showcase products, manage inventory, and guide customers through their shopping journey.
The Future of WhatsApp AI
As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, the scope of WhatsApp AI is bound to expand. Future innovations may include even more advanced conversational AI, predictive analytics for proactive customer engagement, and seamless integration with other apps and services. The possibilities are limitless, and the potential for growth is immense.

While talk of contradictions can sound abstract, this kind of situation provides an embodied experience of the antagonism between your own legitimate interests and the interests of another: if the person you are caring for literally requires you to be awake at any point in the night, if they wish to turn over or to go to the toilet, your own needs have to take a back seat. In one harsh example, a member of the team lost their job due to going off sick during a mental health crisis. This felt like another case of the support needs of care workers and disabled people (including disabled workers) being forced into a damaging antagonism. It also reflects one of the ways the organisation of society relies on a distinction between disabled people (as receivers of welfare) and non-disabled people (as producers of value) which doesn’t map onto reality.
Another particularly grim example of this was when one of us, 12 hours into a shift, received news of a friend’s death, and had to continue working for another 24 hours, which was the earliest time another carer could be available. Absent social mechanisms that could provide a safety net for such emergencies, eroded from years of privatisation, our needs were in direct opposition. It’s not fun having to push through grief to get to the end of your shift, but neither is it fun or fair to have the person who attends to your basic needs be in tears - never mind the psychic toll it must take knowing that you’re one emergency away from being fucked. The wage is a poor compensation for this - not just because, literally, it is usually so meagre, but also because it becomes a barrier to two people being human on the same terms - a social relation arbitrarily uniting two individuals at the same time as dividing them.
The nature of the shift work meant that none of the carers had much contact with each other, except for brief handovers when the next person arrived - though at the end of several days without much sleep, you didn’t really feel like having an extended chat. The Whatsapp group for organising shifts and other work related things included the person we cared for, as well as their dad, who’s behaviour was much more typically ‘managerial’ (for example engaging in tactics like calling us individually before team meetings to try and make us feel guilty for asking for paid travel time). At the same time, it was clear that he really just wanted his child to have a life as free as possible of the ritual indignities imposed upon disabled people in the UK.
The inclusion of our client in the organisation of their care was an essential part of safeguarding their sense of agency and dignity, but it had the secondary effect of restricting the space for people to talk freely with each other about frustrations and conditions. I remember one person expressing difficult feelings about our working conditions, and a few days later being mysteriously removed from the group (and from the team). They were somewhat hesitant after I reached out to them, and in any case attempts to try and talk about things fizzled out - even if the situation could somehow be undone, the mutual trust had been broken. Similarly, attempts to reach out to other carers, with the aim of gauging frustration or difficult feelings, were not easy. People felt uncomfortable about backchannel communication, or guilty about suggesting that they weren’t fine with everything going on - or alternatively just felt that there wasn’t really anything we could do without jeopardising the wellbeing of someone who we not only cared for, but did indeed care about.

Islamist terror plot teen will serve at least six years
2 days ago

Matthew King wore a balaclava in some of the videos he made
By Daniel Sandford & Judith Burns BBC News Home Affairs Team
______ A 19-year-old man has been given life with a minimum term of six years for planning to stab police and soldiers. Police believe Matthew King, who converted to extreme Islamism during lockdown, could have been hours away from carrying out an attack when they arrest him. King will serve a discretionary life sentence of a minimum of six years, minus the 367 days he spent on remand. The judge praised King's mother for reporting her suspicions to police. In January this year, King pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to the preparation of terrorist acts between December 2021 and 17 May 2022. - Terror plotter threatened imam in jail, court hears
Sentencing him on Friday, Judge Mark Lucraft KC said: "When it comes to the minimum term that you will serve, I make it plain that I am not ordering that you are to be released at the end of it.
"Whether you will be released or not at that stage or at any later stage will be a matter for the parole board to consider only when the minimum term has been served."
Judge Lucraft warned King that if he was released he would remain on licence and liable to recall for the rest of his life.
"In my judgement you are someone where there is a significant risk to members of the public or serious harm," the judge told King.
'Extremist Islamist'
Police believe King turned from being a "troubled young man" to a potential "self-initiated terrorist" while stuck at home during the Covid-19 lockdowns.
Cdr Dominic Murphy, the Met's head of counter-terrorism, told journalists that King "held really extreme anti-Western views, he had an extremist Islamist mindset and he was intending to carry out a terrorist attack either here or abroad.".
"It was imminent," Cdr Murphy said.
Prosecuting barrister Paul Jarvis told the court King had dabbled in drugs since early secondary school, was expelled and left education at 16 with no qualifications.
He converted to Islam in 2020 and, at first, his behaviour improved, but in 2021 he began criticising his sisters' clothing as immodest. His mother contacted the government anti-extremism agency, Prevent, because she feared the videos he was watching promoted hatred.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police arrested King at his home at Wickford in Essex on 18 May last year.
Examination of his phone revealed evidence of him viewing extremist videos which officers believe had convinced him he should kill or torture a British soldier either in the UK or abroad.
The phone also showed he had joined an online chat group where he discussed terrorist funding and travel routes to Syria.
He had changed his WhatsApp status to "kill non-Muslims" and recorded himself rapping to his own lyrics about fellow terrorists in Belmarsh Prison and detonating a bomb, officers found.
In 2022, in the weeks before his arrest, King began carrying out reconnaisance in east London, including on police officers patrolling outside Stratford railway station, as well as at Stratford police station and magistrates' court.
Mr Jarvis told the court that among videos found on his phone was oe near the police station, overlaid with a soundtrack including the words: "Coldly kill them with hate and rage. Plan your perfect killing spree."
On 17 May 2022, a CCTV camera had captured him filming after dark outside the 7 rRifles army barracks in east London.

CCTV showed King filming outside an east London barracks
He had also purchased military goggles and gloves, and carried a balaclava and a "shihada" jihadist flag, sometimes wearing combat clothing to the mosque.
Several of the mosques he attended warned him several times about his behaviour, and one decided he was no longer welcome, Mr Jarvis told the court.
Members of the public who called the police about King included members of two WhatsApp groups he had joined called Southend Brothers and Southend Shurah.
King was put under surveillance, and his social media posts of police officers, captioned with the words "Target Acquired", heightened concerns at how fast he appeared to be moving towards an attack. These concerns led to his arrest.
Evidence of King's efforts to buy a hunting knife online helped police build the case against him - he had to give passport details to prove his age, under new rules brought in since 2019.
Although King never bought a weapon, police say he would have easily been able to obtain a kitchen knife to carry out attacks, though potential terrorists often prefer bigger hunting knives for their shock factor.
Officers also obtained Snapchat messages King sent to a girl who was still in the sixth form, in which he said he wanted to travel to Syria to become a martyr.
They exchanged messages about how they would like to mutilate members of the British and American armed forces.
Miss A wrote to him: "We can't let them die quick tho. Slow painful death akhi... I'll guide you through it. Or bring him or her home."
He said he was "training for Jihad" and just wanted "to kill people".
Mr Jarvis told the court that on 17 May 2022, the day before King's arrest, the girl messaged him to say she wanted to concentrate on her exams. King replied he would "be worshipping Allah" and he might soon be "on the news".

A 24-year-old Irish-American man with a military record was indicted on terrorism charges for traveling to Lebanon and Syria in an attempt to join Hezbollah, the Justice Department announced Thursday.
Jack Danaher Molloy was arrested in Chicago in early December for lying to FBI agents while being investigated for his effort to join the Lebanese terror group, the Justice Department said in a statement. When FBI agents questioned whether he had ever had any intention of joining Hezbollah, Molloy said he had no plans to do so and had had no business or plans in Syria.
In fact, according to the department, Molloy traveled to Lebanon in August 2024 in an attempt to enlist with Hezbollah and, after being rebuffed, ventured to Syria to try his fortunes with the terror group there. At the time, Israel and Hezbollah were in the midst of a yearlong, escalating conflict on Israel’s northern border.
When Molloy eventually returned to Pittsburgh from the Middle East in October, he was questioned at the airport by FBI agents.
According to an unsealed affidavit, Molloy declared “a very fierce hatred of these Zionists” and was excited by the prospect of fighting them.
Molloy frequently employed antisemitic and violent names and references in usernames and social media posts, according to the affidavit, which said one of his email addresses was glassofjuice88@[REDACTED].com. The first phrase is sometimes used by extremists as a homophone for “gas the Jews,” while 88 is a common white supremacist code for “Heil Hitler.” The affidavit also said that around Oct. 7, 2024, the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ invasion of Israel, Molloy created the email kikekiller696969@[REDACTED].com and googled how to join Hezbollah.
Molloy is a dual citizen of the United States and Ireland who served about a month of active duty as an American soldier in 2019 and later sought to join an Army training program at the University of Illinois Chicago.
He converted to Shia Islam in February 2024 and was known among his contacts as “Yahya,” per the affidavit. (Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’ leader in Gaza, was the architect of the Oct. 7 attack and led the group until Israeli troops killed him in October.)
Molloy allegedly revealed to his mother in a Whatsapp message that he intended to join Hezbollah to kill Jews, and was also considering fighting for Russia, an ally of the recently ousted Syrian regime, against Ukraine in order to eventually join Hezbollah. When his mother asked him if his “master plan was to join Hezbollah and kill Jews,” he answered that it was.
As documented in the affidavit, communication between Molloy and his contacts also shed light on Hezbollah’s recruitment and training practices and indicated that they were in disarray during the time he sought to join the group, as Israel ratcheted up pressure through a mass pager detonation in advance of a ground invasion. At one point, a contact urged Molloy to leave, saying that Hezbollah was “not accepting anyone and due to the high number of Mossad agents, and moles, appearing inside.” She told him that he should consider other ways to achieve jihad.
“Sometimes a voice is far more powerful than a weapon and sometimes a pen is far more powerful than a knife,” the contact told Molloy via WhatsApp, according to the affidavit.
Upon their confiscation, his cell phone and laptop were reportedly found to have multiple violent antisemitic memes, Hezbollah propaganda, and images that appear to show solidarity between a Nazi SS soldier and a generic jihadi soldier.
In mid-November, Molloy also allegedly visited a website that said where Robert Bowers, who committed the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, was imprisoned.
“As alleged, Jack Molloy, an avowed adherent of Hizballah harboring deep-seated animus against Jews, took many steps over a period of months — at home and abroad — in his effort to join and fight for this deadly foreign terrorist organization,” U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania Eric G. Olshan said in a statement Thursday. “This case is yet another sobering reminder of the threat of radicalized violence against Americans.”
Molloy faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both for the charge of providing material support for a foreign terror organization. Each charge of making a false statement to the FBI carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both, according to the Justice Department.

How Small Businesses in Panvel Can Compete with Big Brands Using Digital Marketing
Introduction
Panvel is growing as a business hub, and while big brands dominate the market, small businesses still have an incredible opportunity to compete. Thanks to digital marketing, local businesses can now reach more customers, build strong brand awareness, and drive sales—without massive budgets.
But how can small businesses in Panvel stand out and compete with big brands? In this blog, we’ll explore the best digital marketing strategies that can help local businesses level the playing field and grow successfully.
1. Leverage Local SEO to Rank Above Big Brands
When customers in Panvel search for “best bakery in Panvel” or “top gyms near me,” Google prioritizes local businesses. That’s why Local SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a game-changer for small businesses.
How to Improve Your Local SEO?
✔ Optimize your Google My Business (GMB) profile with accurate business details, images, and hours. ✔ Use local keywords in your website content, like “affordable boutique in Panvel.” ✔ Get more Google reviews from satisfied customers. ✔ Ensure your business is listed on Justdial, Sulekha, and IndiaMART.
💡 Example: A Panvel-based home bakery optimized its GMB listing and saw a 60% increase in local orders.
2. Hyperlocal Social Media Marketing for Targeted Reach
Big brands market nationwide, but you can dominate Panvel by focusing on hyperlocal social media marketing.
Best Strategies for Social Media Success:
✔ Run location-based ads on Facebook & Instagram, targeting only Panvel customers. ✔ Create engaging Instagram Reels & Facebook Stories about your products/services. ✔ Join local Facebook Groups and promote special offers. ✔ Use geo-tags in every post to attract local audiences.
💡 Example: A Panvel-based clothing store ran an Instagram campaign targeting only Panvel residents and tripled their store visits.

Big brands have huge budgets, but you can run high-impact digital ads without spending much.

Big brands work with celebrities, but you can collaborate with local influencers who have strong engagement in Panvel.
How to Find the Right Influencer?
✔ Look for micro-influencers (5K-50K followers) in Panvel. ✔ Partner with food bloggers, fashion influencers, and travel vloggers in the area. ✔ Offer them free products/services in exchange for a shoutout.
💡 Example: A Panvel-based salon collaborated with a local Instagram influencer and got 100+ new appointments in a week.

Big brands have a reputation, but small businesses can build credibility with customer reviews.
How to Get More Reviews?

💡 Example: A Panvel-based spa got 100+ five-star Google reviews and saw a 3X increase in new bookings.

Big brands struggle with personalized customer service, but small businesses can turn this into an advantage.

What Every Travel Brand Should Know About Marketing to Foreign Tourists

Tourism in Malaysia is bouncing back stronger than ever. With international visitors returning in full force, hotels, travel agencies, tour operators, and attractions have a golden opportunity to capture the attention of global travellers.
But attracting tourists isn’t just about offering beautiful destinations and exciting experiences. It’s about speaking their language—literally.
A French tourist might love Malaysia’s stunning islands, but if your website only has information in English, they might struggle to understand your booking process. A group of Japanese visitors may be interested in your eco-tourism packages, but if your brochures are only in Bahasa Malaysia, they’ll likely choose a competitor who provides content in Japanese.
This is why language accessibility is a game-changer for Malaysia’s travel industry. Travel brands that invest in professional translation services can reach a wider audience, increase bookings, and create a seamless experience for international visitors.
Why Language Matters in Tourism Marketing
Tourists Rely on Information Before They Travel
Travelling is an investment—people don’t just show up in a country without research. Tourists read blogs, watch videos, compare reviews, and visit official tourism websites before they even decide on their destination.
Now, imagine a Chinese tourist trying to plan a trip to Malaysia. They search for hotel recommendations, but most of the information is only in English. They want to book a cultural tour, but the descriptions aren’t available in Mandarin. Chances are, they’ll move on to a different website—one that actually speaks to them.
If your content isn’t available in multiple languages, you’re losing potential customers before they even arrive.
Trust is Built Through Familiarity
When travellers see information in their native language, it instantly creates a sense of comfort and trust. They feel more confident making a booking because they fully understand what they’re paying for.
On the other hand, poor translations—or worse, no translations at all—send the message that a business isn’t prepared to serve international guests. In a country like Malaysia, where tourism is a major industry, that’s a lost opportunity.
This is why top travel brands invest in translation services—not just to attract tourists, but to make them feel welcome.
Key Areas Where Translation Makes a Difference

Websites and Online Booking Platforms Your website is your most important marketing tool. If it’s only available in English or Bahasa Malaysia, you’re limiting your reach.
A professionally translated website:
Helps international visitors book with confidence.
Increases direct bookings instead of relying on third-party platforms.
Improves SEO rankings in different languages, helping more travellers find your brand online.
Major hotels and travel agencies offer multilingual websites for a reason—it directly impacts sales.
Social Media and Digital Marketing Malaysia’s tourism industry thrives on social media visibility. But here’s the catch: different audiences use different platforms.
Chinese tourists rely heavily on WeChat and Xiaohongshu, where Mandarin content is key.
Japanese travellers engage with brands through LINE and Twitter, making Japanese-language posts essential.
Middle Eastern tourists often use Instagram and WhatsApp, and they prefer content in Arabic.
If you’re only posting in English, you’re missing out on a huge potential audience. By translating social media content, travel brands can connect with international travellers on their preferred platforms.
Brochures, Menus, and On-Site Information Once tourists arrive in Malaysia, their experience should be as seamless as possible. That means clear signage, multilingual menus, and well-translated brochures at hotels, restaurants, and attractions.
Imagine a German tourist visiting Langkawi and struggling to understand tour options because all the brochures are in English. Or a South Korean visitor at a local restaurant, unable to order because there’s no Korean menu. These small inconveniences can turn a great trip into a frustrating one.
Multilingual materials don’t just enhance the visitor experience—they encourage tourists to spend more because they can fully understand what’s available to them.
How Malaysian Travel Brands Can Use Translation to Stand Out
Localise, Don’t Just Translate Translation isn’t just about switching words from one language to another—it’s about making the content feel natural and culturally appropriate.
For example, Japanese travellers prefer politeness and detailed descriptions when booking accommodations, while European tourists respond better to direct, informative content. A professional translation service understands these cultural differences and adapts your marketing materials accordingly.
Offer Multilingual Customer Support Many tourists feel nervous about language barriers, especially when dealing with hotel bookings, transport arrangements, or emergency situations. Offering multilingual customer support—either through live chat, email, or call centres—makes a huge difference.
Hotels and airlines that provide support in Mandarin, Japanese, Arabic, and Korean often see higher booking rates and better guest satisfaction.
Translate Reviews and Testimonials Travellers rely heavily on reviews before making decisions. But if all your testimonials are in English, potential customers from non-English speaking countries may feel disconnected.
Encouraging guests to leave reviews in their native language—and translating them for international audiences—creates trust and relatability.
Work With a Professional Translation Company in Malaysia Using Google Translate for marketing content is risky—it often leads to awkward phrasing and grammatical errors. Professional translation services guarantee accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and industry-specific terminology.
The best travel brands in Malaysia partner with experienced translation companies to ensure that their messaging is clear, effective, and appealing to global audiences.

Tourism in Malaysia is Multilingual—Your Marketing Should Be Too
Malaysia’s appeal as a travel destination lies in its diversity—from its landscapes to its cultures to its visitors. Tourists come from all over the world, bringing different expectations, languages, and preferences.
Travel brands that recognise this and invest in high-quality translation services will attract more international visitors, increase bookings, and create a seamless, enjoyable experience for their guests.
So the real question is: Is your business truly ready to welcome the world?

The Rise of Agentic E-Commerce: What It Means for Online Retail

Driven by technological advancements from industry giants like Google, Meta, and Amazon, AI-powered E-Commerce Agents offer unprecedented personalization, automate customer interactions, and enhance operational efficiency. As companies across FMCG, travel and healthcare sectors increasingly adopt AI tools like advanced chatbots and personalized recommendation engines, retailers are experiencing significant gains in customer engagement and revenue. But what exactly does this shift mean for the future of ecommerce, and how can businesses harness the full potential of agentic commerce? Defining Agentic Commerce: In simple terms, agentic commerce refers to AI systems (or “agents”) that can act on behalf of users or businesses in the context of online shopping. These AI agents aren’t just basic chatbots; they are software layers built on advanced AI models that can hold conversations and autonomously make decisions or take actions (src: Ecommerce Trends: What agentic commerce means in online retail). In practice, an agentic commerce system might help a shopper research and purchase products, or assist a merchant by automating backend tasks like inventory management. This goes beyond traditional e-commerce tools – it’s about AI with a degree of agency in the shopping journey.

Evolution of AI in E-Commerce: Over the past decade, e-commerce has steadily adopted AI for specific tasks – think personalized product recommendations, automated customer service chatbots, and smart supply chain optimizations. Amazon was a pioneer, using machine learning to power its famous recommendation engine (which now generates roughly 35% of Amazon’s sales (src: What is a Recommendation Engine? - IBM). Retailers also use AI for backend automation, such as predicting stock needs or optimizing delivery routes. For example, Walmart uses predictive analytics to forecast demand and ensure the right products are in stock at the right time (src: Walmart's AI-Driven Hyper-Personalization Strategy). The advent of generative AI and large language models (LLMs) in recent years has accelerated this evolution. Now we’re seeing AI move from behind-the-scenes algorithms to more interactive roles – AI agents that can converse with users and execute tasks in real time. Major Tech Players Driving the Trend: In 2025, tech giants are heavily investing in agentic AI for commerce. Google has rebuilt its shopping experience around AI, pairing a shopping database of 45 billion product listings with its new Gemini AI models to create a personalized Shopping homepage for users (src: The new Google Shopping is rebuilt with AI). When a user searches for a product on Google now, they might see an AI-generated “shopping guide” – a brief of key factors to consider and recommended products tailored to their query (src: The new Google Shopping is rebuilt with AI). This generative AI approach is designed to feel like an expert personal assistant helping the shopper. Meta (Facebook) is similarly infusing AI into commerce across its platforms. In late 2024 Meta announced it’s expanding AI business agents on WhatsApp and Messenger so that companies can use AI to chat with customers, answer questions, recommend products and even complete purchases via messaging (src: Meta’s AI Products Just Got Smarter and More Useful | Meta). These AI agents act as 24/7 shop assistants in chat form. Meta also rolled out generative AI tools for advertisers – auto-generating ad variations – which led to an 11% higher click-through rate and 7.6% higher conversion rate on average for ad campaigns using them (Meta’s AI Products Just Got Smarter and More Useful | Meta). And of course Amazon – the world’s e-commerce behemoth – has launched its own agentic commerce features. Amazon’s new AI shopping assistant “Rufus” was introduced to help customers ask anything while shopping. Rufus can handle broad questions like “What are the best noise-cancelling headphones under $200?” and give tailored answers, drawing on product data and reviews. It has been rolled out to all U.S. Amazon shoppers, who have already asked Rufus tens of millions of questions (src: Amazon's Rufus AI assistant now available to all US customers; Amazon's Rufus AI assistant now available to all US customers). At the same time, Amazon launched AI Shopping Guides that proactively educate shoppers about complex products (like comparing TV features) and recommend items, reducing research time. These examples from Google, Meta, and Amazon show how quickly AI is moving from a supporting tool to a front-and-center agent in the commerce experience. Tech giants are effectively racing to offer shoppers their own AI “personal shoppers” or assistants.
Why It Matters
This rise of agentic commerce signifies a shift in how online retail will operate. We’re moving from an era where the user manually searches, filters, and decides – to an era where the user plus AI collaborate on the buying journey. For retailers and brands, it means adapting to new interfaces (like chat or voice) and new decision-making by AI. For consumers, it promises more convenience – imagine saying “find me a pair of running shoes under $100 that fits my style” and an AI handles the rest. In the following sections, we’ll delve deeper into specific AI tools (like chatbots and recommendation engines), real-world case studies across industries, the solutions available in the market, and the impact on revenues and customer engagement.

AI-Powered Chatbots and Personalization
An AI chat agent is there to ask about your needs and point you to the perfect product. This convenience translates into measurable business benefits. Research shows shoppers appreciate the speed and personalization AI chat can provide. In fact, in a recent Adobe Analytics survey, 92% of shoppers who have used AI chat said it enhanced their experience, and 87% said they are more likely to use AI for complex purchases after trying it (src: Ecommerce Trends: What agentic commerce means in online retail). Faster answers and tailored advice shorten the path to purchase, reducing the chances customers give up or bounce away. AI chatbots are proving their value across many retail sites. Beauty retailer Sephora, for example, introduced a chatbot that helps customers book makeover appointments and get product advice. The result? The Sephora chatbot delivered an 11% higher conversion rate for in-store makeover bookings compared to any other channel (src: Sephora Bot — ChatbotGuide.org). That’s a concrete lift in engagement and sales driven by a smart chat interface. Chatbots can also reduce customer service costs by handling common inquiries. Many retailers report that AI chat agents resolve a significant portion of customer questions without needing a human rep – improving response times for customers and freeing up human staff to handle more complex or sensitive issues. Beyond support, chatbots are increasingly becoming personal shopping assistants. E-commerce leaders integrate them with recommendation engines to provide on-the-fly suggestions. If you ask a fashion retail bot “I need a dress for a daytime summer wedding,” it can consult inventory and respond with a curated selection that fits your request (style, occasion, season), possibly even showing images and reviews. This feels like a personal stylist service, but one delivered via AI to thousands of customers simultaneously. The intelligence comes from combining natural language understanding with the retailer’s product data and customer data (like your past purchases or browsing history). Personalization at Scale: Recommendation systems are the other powerhouse tool in agentic commerce. These AI-driven systems analyze user behavior and product data to suggest items a customer is likely to want. Personalized product recommendations – whether on the homepage, product detail page (“You might also like…”), or in follow-up emails – have a proven impact on sales. A famous example: Amazon’s recommendation engine is estimated to drive 35% of its revenue (src: What is a Recommendation Engine? - IBM). That illustrates how effective tailored suggestions can be in boosting basket size and repeat purchases. Similarly, Netflix credits its AI recommendations with dramatically increasing user engagement (though in media, not retail). In e-commerce, personalization can increase metrics across the board. Companies that excel at personalization generate 40% more revenue from those activities than average players (The value of getting personalization right—or wrong—is multiplying | McKinsey). That stat, from McKinsey, underscores how targeting the right product to the right customer at the right time pays off. Consumers have come to expect this level of relevance – 71% expect companies to deliver personalized interactions and 76% get frustrated when this doesn’t happen (src: The value of getting personalization right—or wrong—is multiplying | McKinsey). Brands that leverage AI to meet these expectations see results. For instance, one case study showed using AI to personalize content for first-time site visitors increased conversion for those new customers by over 100% (src: AI Personalization Examples and Challenges - Bloomreach). A traditional recommendation engine might generate a list of products, but an agentic system could take it further – for example, automatically sending a personalized offer via chatbot to a customer who browsed a product and left, or dynamically reordering content on a webpage in response to a user’s real-time behavior. Agentic AI can also personalize backend decisions: inventory management systems using AI might autonomously reorder stock based on forecasted demand for personalized subscription boxes, for instance. From the retailer’s perspective, AI chatbots and personalization engines drive both top-line and bottom-line improvements. Top-line, by lifting conversion rates, average order values, and customer lifetime value through better engagement. Bottom-line, by automating support and marketing tasks that would be costly to do manually (handling millions of one-to-one interactions). No wonder that by 2025, 80% of customer service and support organizations will be using some form of generative AI (per Gartner projections) (src: Customer Service: How AI Is Transforming Interactions - Forbes), and by 2028, 70% of customer service journeys may start and end with an AI-powered conversational assistant (src: Customers Are Increasingly Choosing Third-Party Customer Service ...).

Sector-Specific Case Studies of Agentic Commerce in Action
To see how agentic commerce is being implemented in the real world, let’s explore five mini case studies across different sectors: Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG)/retail, travel, and medicine/healthcare. 1. FMCG/Retail – Walmart’s Hyper-Personalization: Retail giant Walmart has been investing heavily in AI to create what it calls an “Adaptive Retail” experience – essentially meeting each customer with a uniquely tailored journey (src: Walmart's AI-Driven Hyper-Personalization Strategy) (Walmart's AI-Driven Hyper-Personalization Strategy). With grocery and general merchandise, personalization is key to winning omnichannel shoppers. Walmart uses a suite of AI techniques behind the scenes. For example, it leverages generative AI to enrich its product catalog data, having AI generate or improve over 850 million product descriptions and attributes to ensure accuracy and relevance (src: Walmart's AI-Driven Hyper-Personalization Strategy). This rich data, combined with customer intent signals, feeds into Walmart’s AI-powered search and recommendation systems. The result is that when you shop on Walmart’s app or site, the products and offers you see are highly relevant to you. During the 2023 holiday season, Walmart touted AI-driven personalization to surface gift ideas and deals tailored to each shopper, aiming to simplify decision-making (src: Walmart Taps AI to Add Personalization to Holiday Shopping). Executives noted that customers are more likely to convert when the experience feels “for me”, and AI is the engine making that possible at Walmart’s scale. While Walmart hasn’t published specific conversion lift numbers, industry data shows targeted segmentation can lift conversions by ~6% in grocery retail, and Walmart’s own experiments with personalization contributed to record e-commerce sales growth in 2023–2024 (according to their earnings reports). By creating a unique homepage for each customer and using AI to guide them (e.g., “Smart Cart” suggestions, personalized coupons), Walmart illustrates agentic commerce in FMCG – the AI is effectively an agent optimizing each step of the shopping trip, both for better user experience and higher sales. 2. FMCG/Retail – Sephora’s Virtual Assistant: Another retail example is beauty retailer Sephora, known for its innovative use of chatbots. Sephora launched a chatbot on platforms like Facebook Messenger and Kik to act as a beauty advisor. The Messenger bot, called the Sephora Reservation Assistant, helps customers schedule makeovers at their desired store. It turned out to be extremely effective, achieving an 11% higher booking rate for appointments compared to other channels. This showed that customers enjoyed the convenience of arranging services via an AI chat at any time. Sephora also launched a shade-matching bot that lets users send a photo (say, a celebrity’s makeup look or an object) and the AI will recommend a matching lipstick shade from Sephora’s catalog. In essence, it’s an AI stylist at your fingertips. These bots use natural language processing to understand user requests (“I need a foundation for oily skin”) and then leverage Sephora’s product data to make recommendations – a clear case of an AI agent interfacing with the customer and making decisions (which products to suggest) on the fly. Internally, Sephora’s AI also powers personalization in their marketing emails and app, contributing to a 20% increase in customer engagement and 30% higher conversion rates after implementing these AI-driven personalization initiatives, according to a LinkedIn case study by their Martech team (How Sephora Uses AI & MarTech to Personalize Beauty Retail).
