yandere chrollo x reader
warnings: yandere content, kidnapping, implied dub-con, chrollo really sucks
word count: 1.6k
You feel dirty.
No matter how hard you scrub at your skin, how much soap is lathered onto your hands and dragged down your body, it still feels soiled.
The cause of your despair is situated in front of you, a pleased expression on his face while he hums a melody of a certain composer he seems particularly infatuated with lately.
He busies himself by combing his slender fingers through your hair and massaging your scalp meanwhile. If you close your eyes, you can pretend you’re sharing an intimate moment with a lover rather than the one who took you away from everything familiar.
You’re no actor, how much longer can you stand playing the role of a character who you vowed to never become?
This is what you've been working towards for weeks. You can't let this chance slip away.
“Chrollo,” Your voice is quiet, an embarrassingly stark contrast to minutes prior. “I’ve been wanting to ask you something.”
The hands that were previously untangling the knots in your hair spring to a halt. His gray eyes try to meet yours, but you don’t allow them to. You keep your wavering gaze focused on the bathroom tiles next to you. If you were to look into Chrollo’s scrutinizing eyes, he would immediately be able to read your intentions. Any confidence you had managed to scrape together would immediately be crushed, its remains tossed away into the wind.
Chrollo has always emphasized how much he loves your unfiltered thoughts and imagination. You hope he keeps this mindset even now.
“I really, really want to see my family. So... Could you please take me to see them?"
He says nothing. This time, you do meet his gaze, hoping that you’ll be able to gleam his thoughts by staring into the pits. The eyes are the window to the soul, they say.
Chrollo’s eyes are blank, though. There’s no amusement, no sign of mockery, not even anger. His thoughts are impossible to read, no matter how much you study his facial expression.
Desperate to make your point clear, you ramble to fill the silence, to have him understand just how much this means to you.
“I won’t tell them anything, I swear! And I won’t try to drop hints either, you’re smart, so you’d be able to notice them, anyway,” praising him will surely make him become more agreeable, right? “You can lead the conversations, a-and basically say everything in my place so I won’t say anything stupid. You can choose how long and where and when, I just really want them to know I’m okay,” somewhat. “and I want to know that they’re okay too. Please…”
After a silence that’s far too long for comfort, he finally speaks up. Both his voice and countenance refuse to betray what he’s feeling or thinking in the moment. “Your family is in fine health.”
Is that really all he got from your spiel?
“I’m glad, but I really want to see them in person. Please just let me–”
Your tongue freezes, even if you desperately want to keep talking. He gives you a look you’re all too familiar with. The one that tells you to stop pushing your luck, that he’s made up his mind.
If you drop the subject now, he’ll pretend it was never brought up, and you can both bathe in each other's presence. But you refuse to go down like this. He can have you experience luxuries you couldn’t have dreamt of before him, but the pros don’t extend much further than that. The freedom to go out without having to gain Chrollo’s favor first or socializing with whomever you want were taken from you, stolen by a wanted thief.
Against your better judgment, you pursue the topic.
“But!” “[First].” A final warning. You don’t heed it. There’s something to gain, but nothing to lose. “But I’ve been good, haven't I?” You try not to linger on the implication of the word, feeling more like some kind of glorified pet rather than human. “I even let you…” The words are stuck in your throat, making it feel as if you’re choking on your own indignity. There’s no need for you to clarify, anyway, the implication far too obvious to miss.
You feel disgusted at yourself, even if you don’t have the guts to voice that which is obvious. You let him touch you in ways you swore you would never grant him the pleasure of. It was the last part of you he didn’t have in his grasp, and yet you handed it to him on a silver platter, clinging onto hope that maybe if you gave him this one thing he’d acquise to one of your more serious requests.
He sighs, drawn out and heavy. His hand slowly trails up your body, surely noticing but not commenting on how you bristle at the contact, and lingers on the area of your chest a bit too long for comfort. It takes a commendable amount of self control to not slap his hand away, but you manage to force yourself to keep your arms limp by your side.
When his hand reaches your face, he holds your cheek and strokes his thumb over it. The gesture is probably meant to be comforting, but there’s no comfort to be gained from it. No, comfort is a foreign concept when Chrollo is involved.
This set-up feels almost romantic. Maybe it could be, if only he could keep his mouth shut for once. A shame his words effortlessly destroy any semblance of romance the atmosphere had been able to take on.
“You enjoyed it, no?” You blank at his words. It was a reality you were set on ignoring, but Chrollo always seems to be able to tell which topics you want to avoid. It’s unfortunate those happen to be his favorite to discuss.
“Are you intent on ignoring this reality forever? To make yourself feel better about yourself, you convince yourself this was something only I wanted, that you had no choice but to accept whatever I did.” By your stiff posture and pleading eyes, he can easily tell you want him to stop. But he doesn’t relent. “Yet, it was you who initiated. You willingly entered my bed and leaned into my touch.”
Maybe if you had kept your mouth shut, this truth wouldn’t have been shoved in your face, and you could keep pretending you were as unwilling as you thought to be, just so you could justify your actions to yourself.
“Even during it all, I could see the determination in your eyes. You truly are a sight to behold. I could see the inner turmoil, the justification of why you let me claim you. I was content letting you lie to yourself all you desire, but, ah, you seem to have forced the words out of me.”
He gives you a smile of faux guilt. Had you not been feeling so utterly defeated, you might’ve reached out to slap it off his face.
The water is lukewarm, you bitterly note in your head. Even with every remaining part of your dignity being completely destroyed by Chrollo’s words, you refuse to humor him with a response, or any acknowledgement in general. Busying yourself with counting the amount of bathroom tiles seems to keep your mind off the situation at hand for a few seconds, but your tormentor won’t allow you to not give your full attention.
You’re pulled flush against his bare chest. He ignores the yelp you let out in response, placing his face into your neck. Your entire body feels heavy and useless. You want to claw him off, to prove him wrong with both words and actions, but you can’t muster up the energy. Is there even a point, when Chrollo always manages to have everything end in his favor?
He begins to press light kisses against your neck, the skin still sore due to his prior actions. His arms hold your waist in a warm embrace, yet a shiver runs down your spine at the contact.
“You’ve never been the type to give in easily. It’s a trait of yours I truly admire, along with many others.”
In the past, a heartfelt compliment like that would’ve had you beaming at the words and scrambling to give him a compliment back. But in the present, it just has the feeling of despair inside of you growing. He doesn’t voice it, but he doesn’t need to. The words left unsaid are clear.
He made you give in.
When you began hinting towards sex to him, you told yourself that this was for your own gain. That for once, you would be the victor. Chrollo would benefit, yes, but you would too. You could finally have something you truly wanted.
You told yourself this when his kisses got more heated, more passionate, the calm and gentlemanly demeanor he’s always wearing slipping away. You told yourself this when clothes were shed, when he lined himself up with you, when you felt your resolve slipping during the heat of it, when he finally pulled out and it was over.
Throwing away the last shreds of your pride was painful, but you endured. You refused to acknowledge any pleasure he was bringing you, keeping your mind focused on your goal so you could finally win once, as miniscule as your victory may be.
But in the end, Chrollo was the only one who gained anything.
Just like it’s always been.

series masterlist (x)
Maybe I'm just not better than this, I haven't tried Maybe life's less romantic when I don't wanna die You'd think I'd be a fast learner But guess I won't ever mind crisping up on your backburner
Jake has always felt comfortable in nature. Even back on Earth, the comfort of a bed was a luxury mostly lost on him throughout his life. It was peaceful, and comforting, feeling the ground beneath his feet, beneath his skin, malleable and nurturing, like a warm embrace. It was a given here, with the connection the Na’vi had with the world around them, with the forest surrounding them, that he would become one with it, too, that he would find solace in it. He did, most days. Just not tonight, as he lay on the slightly damp surface with an arm underneath his head for support, trying to find meaning in the stars that were still so beautiful and bright they took his breath away, trying to calm his erratic heartbeat and his wandering thoughts.
What was that? This whole day, that conversation that was still ringing in his ears like an insipid echo, making sweat bead on his forehead and trickle down his temples, until they were one with the soil. Why would you say that? What possessed him to confide in you about parts of his life he forsook, he gave up what felt like eternities ago?
He’s never truly noticed you before. The shy, timid girl who was far too attuned to others’ feelings to be able to overlook the disdain still present in some members’ of the clan when it came to anything human, always holed up in that lab he hated, that was at odds with everything he’s come to known and too much like everything he was trying his best to leave behind. It used to be different back then, when you were young, just a child craving connection and companionship, always tied to the hip to his eldest son, Neteyam, where Spider always took more to his two middle children. Par for the course, he thought. You and Neteyam were much alike, and somehow still managed to complement each other well, at the same time. He used to think you’d be good for him, back then. Not that he’d ever tell Neytiri that, the seemingly blasphemous idea, but yes - he thought that, even before you got an Avatar. But now, the thought made him uneasy - queasy, even. It wouldn’t be right. Your relationship would be frowned upon, and the Omaticaya would never look at you and see the future Tsa’hik that’s meant to lead them, to interpret their deity’s way. You were too fragile, too tuned in to your own and others’ emotions to be able to overcome it, and it would break you. Being with Neteyam would break you.
The night was torturous and slow, so many thoughts eating away at him like a disease. By the time Eclipse passed, he was ready for this trip to be over. Being here with you alone wasn’t good, he realises now. It was a mistake, to talk to you, to look into your eyes, to notice you. Because now that he did, he couldn’t stop. The way your Avatar body twitched in sleep, the way he couldn’t help wonder what you were doing in your human body - were you sleeping, like you should be? Was this on your mind, this night, the same way it was his? Were you cramming everything you once used to do in a day in the few hours you had in your now secondary body?
“Oh, kid. You better know how to fix this better than I do.”
“Is the Avatar safe?”
Norm trusted Jake with his life, and still, he knew he had to ask. The scientist in him, the Avatar program leader de facto, he’s always taken every responsibility, every chance to prove himself to the Na’vi and to his late mentor, Grace Augustine, very seriously. And that included taking care of you. You were not his blood, but you were his family, and he wanted to protect you, he wanted you to be alright. And so when Jake suggested getting some much needed tutelage, he was happy to wait until the night to hear all about it.
“You know it is.”
“How did it go?”
“Well, I think. He was right, I guess. I definitely feel a bit more comfortable outside of the village, of all the prying eyes.”
“Amazing. Do you have plans for tomorrow?”
“I’m… not sure. I think… I overstepped.” The blush in your cheeks and eyes glued to your fiddling feet made Norm’s brown eyebrow rise, a small grimace mirroring the one marring your beautiful, soft features. Still, he placed a hand on your head, gently brushing the stray hairs that were raised from the hours of being in the cryocapsule.
“I find that hard to believe.”
“He… told me about his life on earth. About his father, and I… made a comment. I have no idea how he reacted to it, but now that I’m here, I have no chance to fix it.”
“I’m sure whatever it is, it’s not as bad as you think. We always tend to overthink in our heads, and, as humans, we always tend to see the worst in ourselves. You, more than most.”
After helping you out, making sure you were settled on your wobbly, weak knees, he gave your shoulder a small squeeze and left to his quarters, but not before telling you one last thing.
“I think someone overstepping once in a while is exactly what a man who’s always obeyed needs. Go to sleep, love.”
The next morning, you felt dizzy as you woke up in the forest, slight groan audible with every stretch that allowed your sore muscles to loosen. You weren’t surprised to see Jake already up, busying himself with gutting a fish which would most likely constitute your breakfast. You gulped at the sight of him, veiny arms expertly handling the animal, his relaxed postured at odds with the slight frown on his face. Was that because of you? Was he mad at you? What possessed you to talk to him like he was a friend and not the Toruk Makto, the mighty Olo’eyktan? What possessed you to confess about an old crush, that died with your innocence about the world, about the same time you finally started to notice how the Omatikaya, particularly Neytiri, have looked at you all your life.
“Um, good morning.”
His eyes flickered over to you, lingering for a second longer than they needed to on your golden eyes before turning back swiftly, and the expression he adorned, a mixed between shame, guilt and desire, would have been obvious to anyone with more life experience, but not to you. Still, you noticed the blush in his cheeks, and couldn’t help the anxiety bubbling in your chest at what… or whom, might be the cause of it.
“‘Morning, kid. D’you sleep well?”
“I guess. You?”
“One of us have to stay up and keep an eye out for predators, you know. Can’t have you get eaten before I’m done teaching you how to defend yourself.” His smile was teasing, and if it was an effort to put your mind at ease, you did appreciate it. It made what you had to say next come out easier.
“Listen, Jake… what I said last night… it was none of m-“
“It’s alright, kid. It’s been a while since anyone’s contradicted me, apart from my wife, so…” his laugh was rugged and unforced, and you couldn’t help join in at the sonorous melody that rang in your ears and all of a sudden couldn’t imagine being without.
“So you don’t hate me?”
Jake’s eyes settled on your own, but not before flickering to your parted lips, so focused and eager, you were clinging on to his every word, waiting desperately to be put out of your misery.
“No, kid. I don’t hate you.”
Jake didn’t know what was wrong with him, but he did know one thing: it was just a stupid conundrum, nothing more. He didn’t feel anything for you, he was just taken aback by someone who seemed to be a lot more intuitive and incisive about someone’s inner workings than he gave you credit for. But that’s it. Just because you talked about something he cared about, that nobody asked him about, just because he confessed to you feelings he hasn’t said out loud in more than 24 years… that didn’t mean anything. He had a mate. A mate he loved, a mate he was sworn to forever. He had a family, children, a life. It was nothing. So he did his duty and helped you, keeping a safe distance and the conversation to a minimum, outside of instructions he ought to give you. Still, despite his apprehensions, being with you was easy. You were docile and listened well, you were quiet and kept to yourself, and, in the moments you did talk, there was a pureness, a light to your heart that made his own feel lighter.
“Good form. Now focus on the target and, when you’re ready…”
He watched as the arrow flew at high speed and travelled the length of the forest until it hit the ground next to a tree marked with an X - a makeshift target, but it did the job.
“Release.”
“Sorry.” Your ashamed disposition was as clear as day on your face and in your body language, and the purple twinge in your cheeks brought forth the luminosity of your tanhi and he hated himself for noticing it to begin with.
“Dont be. You did well. Just make sure you draw all the way back before releasing. The target’s a bit narrower than you’re used to, so you’re doing well.”
His eyes softened taking you in. A sigh reverberated from deep within his chest and he said the words before he could stop himself, fully knowing he might regret them later.
“Let’s focus on your tracking instead for a little while. A change of scenery might do you well.”
He knew he should leave the tracking skills for back to the village, for someone else to teach you. He should just hurry back home - to his life, to his wife, to the normalcy he’s both craving and desperately afraid of. Any extra time spent with you is time where he could talk and say something, confess something else that is better left unsaid, fall prey to your uncanny ability to see through him, to will out words he hasn’t even realised he’s been dying to say out loud.
The ground was wet and cold, accentuated by the heavy moisture surrounding you. it still took getting used to, the air, breathing it in and out, like you were born to do so, such a colossal departure from the mask that covered your face for most of 23 years of your life. Still, it was a blessing, and one you made sure to appreciate with every breath you took. You forgot a little about it, all the gratitude, as the air felt particularly dense and thick as you took it in, as the man you now called mentor crawled skilfully like a steady, stealthy apex predator, little to no evidence of his presence other than the hand that was rested carefully on the small of your back, sending bouts of electricity all throughout your body. His voice was quiet as he spoke it near your ear, a velvet shroud that enveloped you and stirred something in you, something primal and carnal, something you’ve never felt before. What was happening to you? What was he doing to you?
“Lower, kid. The lower you are to the ground, the fainter your scent, the easier to hide.”
“I-it’s… hard.”
You could hear his smirk as he answered your quiet protestation, and you wondered whether he found it endearing or irksome, praying and hoping with as much power as you still had left in you that it was the former.
“I know, girl. Guess we’ll have to train those abs for more core strength, huh?”
You were happy your back was to him so he couldn’t see the violent blush haunting your cheeks, but even so, there was little you could do about your rampant heart or your heaving breath.
“I can hear your heartbeat like it’s echoing through the whole forest. And if I can, every other animal on a half a click radius can, too. You have to learn to calm your mind. Can you do that for me?”
Although what he was asking of you seemed impossible, considering his touch set your body and soul ablaze and your mind’s already erratic rumination seemed to reach an incandescent high, you tried, and although every muscle in your body hurt and ached, much like the first few times you allowed yourself to train in this body, you did as you were told, and, by early afternoon, you managed to track a pack of Yarik without even as much of a perk of the ear to give you away. You remember still, those early days, like they were happening to you now, as you stood here, in your bedroom, as the tears blurred the familiar space, the rock you were holding so tightly in your hand that it was cutting through your palm until all that inundated your sight was a watercolour red stain. You should have known then. What would follow. When he touched you, how it made you feel, you should have known to stay away. Norm once told you life, especially in your 20s, was about the joys and miseries of growing pains, but if you knew, how the journey was full of polarising extremes that pulled at every fibre of your being, how the high was insurmountable, but the pain was unbearable, maybe you would have thought twice before jumping in.
You wonder if he knew, then. If he felt it, too. You wonder if he realised that this was the beginning of the end, if the pull you felt was the same one that drove him to what came after, to all he ended up putting on the line. You wondered if it was all a ploy, getting you alone, or if he truly just wanted to help, innocent and undiscerning, just a dutiful Olo’eyktan. You thought you knew his heart, and how much it hid and how much it hurt, you thought you came to know it all through all this time, but as the bleeding in your heart mirrored your gashing palm, you weren’t sure anymore.
“Come.”
The Yarik were all gone now, unfrightened by your unassuming presence, which you took as a win. Still, you almost flinched when his now much louder voice rang above the quiet murmur of the forest.
“Where?”
“You worked hard today, so you deserve a break. And I know just the spot.”
Jake wasn’t sure if it was a good idea, what he was about to do, but he knew you needed something to break apart the times of pain and struggle. It was something he’s learnt, being here, on Pandora, as one of the people, that there was more to life than duty, than sacrifice and pain, then the daily struggle of fitting in, of pitching in, of simply existing. You had to live life, face it, enjoy it. And he wanted you to have that, especially now. He understood, more than most, what it was like to be inhibited and trapped to a space or a time, paralysed, literally or figuratively to your immutable circumstance. For him, it was his legs, trapping him in a body he hated and couldn’t recognise, in habits he took on just like the soldier he’s always been, because there was nothing else he could do. For you, it was your human body, that confined you to the lab, to a mask, to a life that could never be experienced fully, until now. So, despite a small part, probably the logical part of his mind, telling him he should just keep the training going or go home, he decided to share with you a place he found while hunting for food last night. And when he saw your face as you took it in, all doe-eyed and bushy tailed, ears twitching enthusiastically and a beautiful, innocent smile taking over your whole face, he knew he made the right call. He found his own smile brewing without being able to contain it, your joy so contagious, it was like the whole world shone just a little brighter than it had a few minutes ago.
“Jake… I love it. Thank you.”
The roar of the waterfall crashing on the otherwise peaceful lake almost drowned your words, and he laughed at the way you were tentatively approaching the water, as if scared that the caress of it on your skin might hurt your already aching muscles.
“Good. Let’s see how you like it up close.”
And with that, and a gentle tap on your shoulder, a loud splash ensued where you hit the water. He laughed yet again at the way you emerged from it, wet and startled and almost as if you could not believe what just happened.
“I-I… you… I cannot believe you did that!”
He couldn’t help how much fun it was, doing this, being with you - it was as if for the first time in ages, in decades, being alive was fun again. It was as if this forest was completely separated from his own, from what was waiting for him back home, the unsurmountable pressure that plagued him every second of every day, especially since the humans returned.
“Believe it, kid. You need to learn to let loose once in a while, you know?”
You rolled your eyes, but seemed intrigued by his preposition.
“I will if you will.”
And so he did. And for the next few hours, life was easygoing and fun, and spending time in your presence felt like coming out for a deep breath when it felt like he’d been drowning. He’s learnt you didn’t really know how to swim, and that the first song you’ve ever learnt on piano was one you deeply related to, that he’s made you promise you’d sing to him, and he found out plenty of small things, but nothing important, or of substance. It was clear to him more and more you loved being the one asking the questions and never the one answering them, and, soon enough, here you were again, curious as a cat about things nobody else was when it came to him.
“Did you ever expect it?” the sun was still shining brightly upon you both, warming your strong, supple bodies as you floated in the otherwise cold water. Eclipse wasn’t too far behind, but right now, neither of you particularly seemed to care.
“What’s that?” You continued floating, looking intently at the sky - focused or too embarrassed to look at him, Jake couldn’t really tell.
“Everything. What you did, what happened. Did you ever expect it, when you were offered a place on a shuttle to Pandora?” Once again, Jake was taken aback by your propensity of asking deep, profound, intimate questions like you were asking about the weather. He wondered briefly if you realised that that’s not how most people talked.
“No… I didn’t. I didn’t care, about the job or the mission. I cared about the money. And later, about the chance to get my legs back.”
“Do you ever miss it? Being… normal.”
“I was given a second chance - a purpose bigger than me, bigger than the measly life I left behind. I -“ this finally got your attention, and for the first time since your first question, you adjusted your position in the water so that you were fully facing him, inquiring eyes like beads of light and focus, intent on taking in every expression, every shift in mood, every slight adjustment of his face. You tried again, this time more forceful and intense, this time almost demanding of his full attention.
“That wasn’t my question. It’s a privilege, and an honour, to be who you are…”
He struggled as he always did to stifle a roll of his eyes and the speech he’s heard a million times before, from his wife, or his Tsa’hik, from every villager of the Omatikaya, from every other tribe leader he’s ever met through diplomatic missions. The answer he always kept at the ready was caught in his throat, because you kept going.
“…but I’m sure it’s also tiring, and hard. And lonely. So do you ever miss it? Do you ever wish things could go back to the way they were? Do you ever wish you didn’t have to be there for everybody all the time?”
He looked at you, pleading, not knowing whether he needed you to stop or keep going, only knowing it hurt, being torn at the seams like that between two choices that both led to heartbreak and epiphanies he wasn’t ready to face nor strong enough to deal with on his own, especially right now.
“Kid…”
“I went too far again, didn’t I? What is wrong with me?”
The attempt to get out of the lake was swiftly overthrown by his much stronger physique keeping you in place, caging you in between the edge of the lake and his muscular arms. Jake wasn’t an emotional man, he wasn’t one to be overcome with feelings that could cloud his judgement, that could interfere with a plan of action and yet, standing there, in that moment, your wide golden eyes looking fearfully and surprisedly up at him, the rapid pulse of your heart clearly visible in your carotid artery running up your neck, he felt his mind clouded and his own heart trembling with the overwhelming, unexpected urge to taste you, to feel those lips crashing over his, your tongues intertwined, his fingers wander in wondrous places he was sure no one else had before. He needed you, like he’s scarcely ever needed anything else, like he rarely ever allowed himself to. But you weren’t his, you never would be. And this was wrong and immoral, and it didn’t matter - that you seemed to be able to see right through him, that everything you said cut like a knife through all the bullshit and pretence, that your pupils were so wide they were swallowing the golden of your irises, that he could feel that you wanted it too. None of it mattered.
“You didn’t go too far. You just… see things. And ask things, no one else ever does. And it scares me, kid. You scare the shit out of me.”
“Me? I’m nothing. I’m… just a girl.”
“You’re everything.”
It was then you knew, that the crush was not a crush, it was so much more, too much more. It was then you knew you were heading for a potentially life-altering, life-ending fall that would break all your bones and leave you tethered on the ground, shattered and broken, unable to ever be put back together the same. And so you tried. You broke the moment that felt eternal, even though it pained you, to know at some point he wouldn’t be looking at you the way he had been then, and asked him to go home. You were quiet and compliant all the way back, and he made it easier on you by a performance of the same caliber. You didn’t know if it made you feel better or worse, that the moment clearly affected him too, enough that both of you looked like dogs with their tails between their tails as you arrived back in the village, without having spoken another word to the other, without as much as risking a glance in the other’s direction.
It was for the best. There was nothing, absolutely nothing that could come of entertaining this little troubled happenstance, and truth be told, you couldn’t wait for your life to get back to normal, where he barely spoke to you and you were free to withdraw within yourself the way you knew you had to in order to heal. You were able to get over your mindless crush once before, and you were certain to be able to do it again, especially given you would had the perfect opportunity in the annual clan celebration that you had come just in time for.
“How was it?” Neteyam was quietly hopeful about your trip with his dad, eager to be able to call you one of the People as soon as he possible could. Any effort to aid that, to allow you closer to a life he knew you deserve and knew you could make your own, was beneficial and encouraged in his mind. You loved Neteyam, and appreciate him for who he was and what he meant to you - a brother, a best friend, a confidant. You told him most things and yet, some things were just too ugly to share, and so you didn’t. Some things were better off swept under the rug, praying the lump they made was not big enough to trip on.
“Great. I think he was right, being away from all the prying eyes helped. Guess I’ll just have to show you tomorrow. Who knows? I might even be better than the mighty warrior soon, eh?”
He threw his head back and laughed, and you joined in his joy, already feeling better just being away from him, leisurely walking trough the village and helping out with anyone who needed a hands for tonight’s celebration.
“Dream on, paskalin. Although, you could show me what you learnt tonight, and maybe even win a prize in the knife throwing contest. Better than sulk all night in a corner the way I know you’re itching to do.”
“Actually, I wasn’t planning on doing that. Not tonight.”
“Oh?” You wish you hadn’t said that, because you should have realised Neteyam would be curious and it was a subject you didn’t feel ready to talk to anyone about, especially a man, a beautiful, glorious, obviously-experienced one, such as your best friend.
“I just mean, it’s time, you know? To try to live my life. Maybe even find someone with whom to share it with.”
“Y-you mean… like a mate?”
Neteyam looked taken aback by your confession, so much so that he stopped in the middle of the path, making two children bump into his legs and fall down behind him. It took a lot to make Neteyam flustered, and so you couldn’t understand why your words affected him so much. Was it so unsettling to people, the thought of an Avatar finding love on the planet that wasn’t quite home, but was the only chance at home you would ever get? Were you so repulsive as a person that the one who knew you the best thought it hard to digest that you could ever be loved by a man?
“Forget about it, Neteyam. I’ll be at the celebration, alright? I should go get ready.”
You left before you could hear his excuses or explanations - you knew you were sensitive, probably too sensitive. You knew you were probably overreacting, and his words didn’t have any malintent, and you knew he was most likely just taking a second to adjust to a new stage of your life you’ve never shared with him before. You knew all of these and more, and yet, your heart was tired and bruised, your mind a tumultuous whirlwind of doubt and misery. You needed time, time to heal, time to think. Time you didn't have, when the celebration was upon you.
You almost wanted to laugh now, months after that night happened, at how stupid you had been that night, how desperate and pathetic. You knew about some Na'vi, certain warriors who loved the idea of humans, of experimenting with them, of using them. You've heard the stories, you've seen the scientists coming back to the lab with them, you've been around when they talked about how good it was, how necessary the release, how passionate and life-changing the experience. In your head, that was exactly what you needed then: some sex with some random Na'vi who wanted to show you a good time, help you forget about the one you really wanted. It wasn't hard enough to find one that night, especially after you won your prize in the knife throwing competition, when the warmth of liquid courage was still embedded deep within your throat and soul, much to Neteyam's dismay. Still, the performance attracted attention, of one man in particular you cared about. Strong, 10 feet tall and muscular, he was looking at you like a meal and right then, you wanted nothing more to be devoured. You wondered what your life would have been like if that night went differently than it did. You wondered...
He barely noticed it, his wife’s touches or his clan members’ words of admiration or respect, not when the only thing his mind could focus on was the way his hand was caressing your shoulder and down your arm in gentle and intimate touches that felt too familiar for two people who have seemingly barely ever interacted before. His skin crawled at the sweet, shy smile you were sending his way and at the slight tint of purple he could see in your cheeks. You were too pure for this, Jake knew. Too pure for the intentions clear on his face that he didn’t think you fully understood, how this was all a game, a conquest, how you were a prize to be won, a trophy to be paraded around to the Na’vi who loved to brag about fucking the Avatars, the humans, the aliens. It was a game to him, and you… you weren’t a game to be played, not to Jake.
To his surprise, he realised he was angry with you. Angry that you were humouring him, that you were giving into it, that you were enjoying it. That guy was not good enough for you, and you should know that. You should know that for your first time being touched, being someone else’s, you needed someone who knew how to handle you, how to make you feel good, show you what it feels like to give in to your wildest dreams and fantasies. You needed someone to teach you. The fury bubbling just beneath the surface worried him.
You weren’t his. You were free to do as you wished, and the thoughts that plagued him as the mother of his children was sitting in his lap, perfectly unaware, were enough to pool other feelings, like guilt and shame, and form a heady concoction of emotions that he knew sooner or later would explode all around him. None of the feelings trumped the relief that washed over him as soon as he saw Lo’ak approach the two of you and break apart the scene, and right then, in that moment, Jake never felt more grateful for his troublemaker son and his propensity for meddling in other people’s business.
You looked disappointed with the interruption, slightly irked at his son and at the way the hand that was running up and down your thigh was now vacant from the spot you obviously thought it belonged on. The boy was clearly annoyed at Lo’ak, and a smirk breeched the carefully constructed expression resting on the Olo’eyktan’s face - annoyed or not, everyone knew better than to challenge one of his sons. So, with a careful goodbye, he was gone, leaving you gesticulating widely in his direction and clearly despondent with the outcome. It wasn’t long before you left for your tent, and Jake knew that if he was to survive this night, he’d have to be careful not to give in to the one thing he wished for the most in the world.
Your shower was hotter than what you were used to, hot enough to hopefully scald away the shame and embarrassment you felt now that you were sober once more. Your life seemed to be comprised mostly of those, recently, and while it was somewhat easy to forget how badly you fared in training your Avatar body once you got back to your bedroom and the safe confines of the labs, this new, fresh development lingered like a cold sore, painful whenever you remembered it. Did anyone else apart from Lo’ak see you, shamelessly flirting and allowing a Na’vi warrior to feel you up? Did everyone know how desperately you wanted someone to take you away and make you forget about the one man you actually wanted, the man who made all the other ones pale in comparison, the one man who you couldn’t have? You knew it was so wrong, how badly you craved his touch, what effect even a fleeting image of him in the back of your mind had on you, how your slick was running down your legs, how your brain couldn’t stop conjuring all the ways he could teach you how to be, how to love, how to live. How you knew his touch would ruin you and put you back together, kill you and finally bring you to life.
As you fastened your towel onto your body and opened the door to your bedroom, you were startled to find the one man you couldn't shake from your mind sitting on your bed, eyes wandering over your barely dry body.
“God, Jake, you scared me!”
You couldn't believe he was in your room, as if by thinking about him hard enough you manifested him here. He was so tall, so much bigger than you as you stood now, in your human body, frail and delicate and so easy to break. He barely fit on your bed and in your room, taking most of the walking space, so much so you struggled to adjust your position to face him properly.
“…What are you doing here?”
“What were you doing with that grunt at the party?”
You couldn't believe your ears, settling on a double take as you considered his question carefully, mulling over every word in your mind, as if doing so will finally reveal a secret meaning to it that you couldn't quite understand yet.
“Pardon?”
“You heard me, kid.”
His words were dry and humourless. There was no levity to them, or to the situation, the room filled with thick tension, and for the first time in your life, you were almost...scared of him. Why did he care?
“I… he… we…”
“That’s what I thought. Why him? If you want someone to mate, I’m sure there’s better options out there.”
“I don’t want to talk about it, Jake.”
You started turning around, dizzy from the way his presence was making you feel and tired of giving him so much power to do so. You didn't manage to, though, as his large hand caught your forearm and held you in place, and when you were forcefully turned back to look at him, you saw it all. The hurt. The anger. The... betrayal. The jealousy.
“No, this isn’t how this works. You always ask questions and get me talking about shit I haven’t said out loud in decades, or ever. You’re not going shy on me now, not anymore. So why him?”
Fuck it.
“Because it’s not you, ok?! Because it can’t be you! And I don’t know if you’ve realised this, but it’s not like I have a line of men willing to mate or even be seen with a human, an alien, a sky demon. So it has to be him! That’s why.”
“Kid…”
The tears were pooling in your eyes like beaded pearls making your vision blurry, and the struggle with which you've been trying to remove yourself from his grasp finally paid off because you did it, you finally manage to break free, but it was too late. You were exhausted, and you knew it was time to lay it all on the table, once and for all, for him to know, and to disprove, for him to break your heart so you could finally move on.
“No, Jake! You’re in my head, all the time. It’s messing with my mind, the deluded reality I’ve been living in. You talk to me, and you notice me, and you give me attention. You touch me, and you look at me like…”
Soft sobs broke your words apart and let their meaning linger all around you, sounding like infinite echoes in the room. It would all be over soon.
“...Like you want me. And I know you don’t, and I know it’s not real, and it hurts me! So I need something else, I need someone else, I need someone to show me there’s other men out there, to pull me out of this nightm-“
His lips, soft and needy, not at all like you imagined them to be, ceased your pleading words before you got a chance to speak them. It took a second, just one second, for you to understand what was happening, to process the way the kiss was everything you've ever wanted and more than you've ever dreamed about, the way he was desperate and hungry for your touch, for you to reciprocate his feelings... so you did. And you melted under his touch, and before long, the whole world disappeared from view, and there were no consequences to your actions, and all you knew, all you needed... was him.
You were both panting when you finally came up for air, and all you wanted was more. More. A little more. Always more.
“Fuck, kid. You’ve got no idea how much I want you. But I’ll show you.” His hand wandered down your much smaller body, until his large fingers found the knot of your bathrobe, that he skilfully undoes, before sliding them over your soaked folds. “Shit. Look how wet you are for me. Let me show you, please.”
With a nod, you dropped your head backwards and knew, in your heart, whatever was next would be the beginning of the end, of you, of him, of everything you’ve both worked so hard for and yet, all you felt was unadulterated, heavenly, euphoric bliss.
Maybe I blame my mother bleeding into my stride Maybe it was my father and his wandering eyes (It's their fault that) I'll always be in your corner 'Cause I don't feel alive 'til I'm burnin' on your backburner

72 Hours (Roman Roy Oneshot)
Character/s: Roman
Word Count: 1,409
Warning/s: hospital, hospital tw, mental health, mental health tw
Tag: @locke-writes
A/N: This is something different lol. December of 2020 I checked myself into a psychiatric hospital :) It was scary and new, but it was definitely necessary. I don't think it should be a taboo subject. It's definitely not something my immediate family will or likes to bring up, but it's also not something to be ashamed of, y'know? Idk. I've been feeling bad again. Not like in 2020, that was- it was very bad, but still not great. It happens. Meds stop working. The heaviness sets in. I use writing to get through it, those bad feelings, so that's what I'm doing. Just know you're not alone when you're feeling bad. My inbox is always open, I am always willing to talk 💜💜💜💜💜💜
They are terrible thoughts. Horrible, repulsive, aching thoughts that feed off everything you are. They see the worst in you. When you’re done, that’s all there is left. The most repulsive parts of you. The bare, naked, scarred bones. You used to fear you were a bad person. A truly sinister, evil person. Now you don’t have to worry. Now you know. You are. Selfish, and evil, and a burden. Unlovable, unkind, undesirable. He doesn’t love you, not really, and he wouldn’t miss you. No one would. You’re sure of it. You’re so sure of it your bones ache. They long for the soil, muddy and rich. Your whole body wishes to be put to rest. To finally find peace. Being alive hurts. It hurts so bad sometimes. It takes everything out of you to roll from one side to the other. Things have taken up space in your bed. Books sleep soundly next to you, begging to be read. Notes, loose paper, begging to be written. You hope, in nestling with them, loving them even in rest, that they will save you from yourself. They will drag you out of this abyss you’ve found yourself falling in for a long time now. If there is a bottom, you haven’t found it yet. Every second of every minute you flinch, expecting your head to crack open, expecting your neck to snap on that solid ground. It never comes though. How much darker can things get? How much longer do you have before the light, the shrinking light, clouds over? You fear, when this is over, that everything will be gone. You will be gone. Forever. Your own mortality hangs in the balance. You claw at the rocky walls, your fingernails bloody, ripping apart. You scream so loud, for hours, but no one is near enough to hear you.
Is it my fault? Those are the first words from his mouth, the first thought behind those puppy dog eyes. You hold his face, his stubble scratchy in your palms. Did I do something wrong? You make sure your words are stern, but not scary, not angry. He bruises too easily, your peach. No. None of this is your fault. I just, I have to go away for a few days and figure things out. That’s all. 72 hours. Then I’ll be home. You muster a smile, the edges of your mouth heavy in their upturned state. He looks so small, so worried, shaking hands at his side. He doesn’t know what to do, what to say. Neither do you. It’s always been something in your life. An endgame. An option when you run out of options. You talked it over with your therapist, loved and trusted, and they too believe this could be beneficial. Your bag is packed for three days. Three days apart. Basically a weekend. You can do that, right? You can manage, he can, too. You don’t think you have any other choice. Standing there, your bag at your feet, you feel the heaviness. The weight. You want to finally collapse inward like a star, bright and burning and suicidal. He looks you over, your expression, your body, everything you are. You will understand him to understand, to get it, but you don’t need to. He already does. It wasn’t an easy decision to come to. None of this has been. But if you want the hurt to stop, if you want to stop falling, then you need to leave and get help.
He picks your shirt from the laundry, holding it against his chest. He wanders around the apartment, massive, lonely without you by his side. It smells like you, the fabric. You hadn’t changed out of it in a week, week and a half. Sweaty, you’d argue, but he likes it. It’s familiar. Roaming like a ghost, restless, trapped. Mostly you sunk into the mattress, the sheets melding into your skin until you were one singular being. The tears, silent, hidden, but not quite. Coming home from work, finding your cheeks freshly wet, your eyes red and glazed over. The thoughts unsaid, but screaming. Screaming and wailing and willing you to step over that edge. Nothing about it is easy. Nothing about it is gentle. Nothing about this you could stand for much longer. Dinner, so sweetly prepared, goes uneaten. Everything sits like rocks in the pit of your stomach. Threatening to come back up again. Mostly, you push the food around your plate, managing a smile, managing interest in the conversation. You spend all day in bed, but you are unable to sleep. The bags under your eyes look like they hurt, aching, pulsing. The hollows of your eyes seem deeper, darker, haunted. Your body is so heavy. You never knew flesh and bone could feel like concrete. Every step, every movement, it is unthinkable. You curl into yourself, hoping tomorrow will be better, hoping this will go away. It won’t. It never does.
Roman didn’t know things were this bad. Even as he watched you wave from the check-in desk, even as he watched the doors close behind you and an escorting nurse, even as he waited for you to come back, a voice in his head told him things weren’t this bad. They were. You’ve been sick for a long time. He thought if he was home more, if he cooked dinner, real dinner, and cracked jokes and held you so tight at night, then it wouldn’t get this bad. Cyclical. Things got like this. But it always went away. It got bad, yes, but then it got better. Why wasn’t it going away? You didn’t have the words to describe it. He’d find you laying in the tub, the water cold, shivering, crying, unable to get out. It took too much energy, too much determination, none of which you had. Unchanged from the pajamas you wore for days at a time. He blamed himself. He wasn’t doing enough. He wasn’t there for you enough. If, if, if. You told him it was just your brain, your mind, getting a little lost. When it got lost, it was hard to find its way back. It wasn’t him, it wasn’t you, it wasn’t anyone or anything, just your brain. It would be like this for the rest of your life. You couldn’t bargain or bribe your way out of this. It had to be done. He saw the scars along your skin from the times before, when things were bad, very bad. He didn’t want anything like that from happening again.
He called you as soon as he could. Roman’s voice was shaky, unsure. You were the one easing his fears, his worries. If you didn't, no one would. He didn’t ask how it was going, he wasn't sure if he should. You sensed the curiosity, telling him your new routine. You’ve been sleeping better, easier. The food is terrible. There are doctors and therapists who are going to help you, make your brain better. He breathes a sigh of relief. Not because of what you say, but how you sound. Your tone was so scary. Scared of your thoughts, scared of what you might do. You sounded lighter. You talked as long as you could. When you hung up he went to bed with your shirt, one arm reaching out to your side of the bed. Wanting you. Needing you. Knowing this is what had to happen. Everything his father had taught him, you had he retaught. This wasn’t taboo. It wasn’t evil or wrong or anything to be embarrassed of. It’s just something that is. He counts down the hours. 48. 47. 46. . .
Soon you will be home. You will have medications, different pills, pills that will work. You will be in your own bed again right next to him. You will get better. You will feel happiness again. You will laugh and smile and it will be so genuine it hurts. And when this comes back, when everything gets dark again, because it always does, he will be there like he is now, like he has been. He will be there. Because when he made a promise to you, he made it to all of you. The good parts, but the bad parts too. The scary, mean, lying parts. The parts that tell you you aren’t worth it, that you won’t be missed. He’ll spend every day proving them wrong.

Growing food is a key reason for many people to garden, but a key question is how safe is my soil - and how do I find out?
Millie meets EPA chief environmental scientist Profession Mark Patrick Taylor, who runs the EPA’s GardenSafe program with colleague Hannah Elliott.
The program offers free soil tests to help people understand what’s in their soil – which can include chemicals associated with industrial pollution. If these get into soil they can then get into food and inside people’s homes – but knowing they’re there means steps can be taken to reduce health risks.
The main chemical the EPA tests for is lead, which is often found around older homes close to city centres. The contamination may come from lead paint originally used on timber buildings (but now banned) or from lead in the air from petrol fumes, before unleaded petrol was introduced.
Lead is a neurotoxin, which interferes with a person’s neurological development; children are particularly at risk. Soil is also tested for arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, manganese, nickel and zinc.
Hannah shows Millie how to take a soil sample, pulling back the mulch from the soil to reveal a 15cm x 15cm square of clear soil, and digging up the top 2cm of soil. The sample should be about half a cup in volume or 150grams – about the size of a tennis ball.
Hannah recommends taking three samples: from your front yard, back yard (especially in areas where children play), and vegie patch.
Samples are dried and tested for nutrient levels and structure as well as for contaminants; this information helps gardeners know what sort of soil they are growing in – sandy, loam or clay – and what fertilizers or compost it may need to grow a wider range of vegetables.
The results of the tests are de-identified and added to the MapMyEnvironment website, which shows the hotspots where contamination is most likely to be found: usually in inner-city areas and near industrial sites. This information helps the EPA manage risks to the environment.
Learning that your soil is contaminated doesn’t mean the end to growing vegetables or playing outside – the EPA advice is to:
- Grow in raised beds,
- Mulch beds and paths to reduce dust,
- Wash veggies before eating,
- Wash hands after gardening and
- Remove your shoes before going indoors.
- Avoid planting in the dripline of older houses.
If you keep chickens, make sure they’re digging a scratching in a deep bed of clean litter.
Create a safe play area for children, such as a sandpit.
What you grow also affects risk levels, because different plants absorb different chemicals at different rates.
Leafy greens absorb the most lead, for example, while fruit trees won’t be affected the same way. So silverbeet and lettuce should be grown in raised beds, while your lemon tree may grow directly in the soil.
The GardenSafe program is free for all Victorian residents. Gardeners in other states can pay a small donation to access the VegeSafe program run by Macquarie University.

Your about me says you enjoy environment related topics, do you like conservation and management related topics? What are your thoughts on common conservation practices? Any thoughts or advice on creating a native plant garden in a yard?
I love conservation and management related topics but a lot of what I know is specific to where I live and I’d rather not doxx myself. Most recently, I’ve look into marsh conservation and management practices as marine ecosystems are my area of study in college. Things like rising temperatures, coastal erosion, invasive species, and drainage are all things that are leading to the slow decline of marsh environments worldwide. Marsh environments themselves are very important to the environments health because of their ability to take in carbon and other greenhouse gases. They are also important buffer zones off the coasts that would help protect us from more extreme weather phenomena (which is going to become more common with global warming). A book I read a couple weeks ago on this topic was Fen, Bog and Swamp: A Short History of Peatland Destruction and It’s Role in the Climate Crisis by Annie Proulx. There are some issues with this book but in the bigger picture it’s relatively helpful with getting information on the topic.
Another topic I’m very interested in is shark conservation (I know, total 360° from marshes lol) because they are the apex predator of many environments which makes them a good indicator species for the health of an ecosystem. There has been a global decline in many shark species worldwide over the last century because of things like fishing practices, competitive fishing for them, etc. At the moment, I’m looking more into understanding sharks biology and behaviors as opposed to conservation so I can have a better understanding of how to help. Again tho, I’m also a college student and I’ve just had an on and off hyperfixation on sharks since I was a kid.
As for conservation practices, I’m little unsure of what you are referring to as there is a wide variety. I’m familiar with farming practices that try to help the soil retain its nutrients/microbes and tries to not waste as much water. I had to take a whole soil sciences class (didn’t love it, but the lab was amazing). A lot of what I actually implement in what I do in my families gardens is usually related to planting things that survive easily where I live (typically native species or plants I can eat that I know will survive) and yelling at my father when he tried to plant another invasive species (he’s on his like 3rd or 4th one since I was little).
As for creating a native garden it’s pretty dependent on where you live. Just doing research into what would typically be found in your area, what would suit the needs of the ecosystem you live (like the bugs/birds/fauna/other plants in your area), and what the actual state of your garden is like. We have a lot of pollinator plants in our garden because my father is very much into saving the bees so when he was looking for native plant species he was specifically looking at flowers. Also remember that just because a plant species in non-native to your area that doesn’t mean it’s automatically invasive. Although non-native plants typically are not as great for the ecosystem as native plants. Moving into another book recommendation, but Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer is an amazing book when it comes to understanding some of the ways that plants interact with you and the environment. It also has a lot of information about indigenous beliefs and practices when it comes to the plants they grow, care for and harvest (sweet grass is the main one talked about).

They sell us our clothes and our cars
They sell us everything from youth to religion
The same time they sell us our wars

They can be counted on to tell us who our enemies are

Comment: Since 2008, I have been following developments in the USA more or less intensively from afar. Over time, one could observe how their society became more and more divided and radicalized - especially in the right-wing political spectrum. However, it is essentially a problem in many „Western societies“ (incredible: societies are moving to the “far right” despite of all lessons from history!) - caused by the social upheavals brought about by American-style neo-liberalism after the fall of the Soviet Union and unbridled globalization without real international rules. With the financial crisis of 2008 neo-liberalism failed miserably and almost plunged the world back into an abyss like in 1929. Since the last financial crisis it has been clear: „Trickle-down“ doesn't really work in such societies - and the effects of globalization and the ever-worsening climate crisis mean that the world as a whole is increasingly fleeing hunger and hardship...and of course war. „We“ cause all this!
The masses are desperate and angry - also because national governments had to stuff a lot of money into “rescue packages” to save the global economy (i.e. banks and stock markets) in various crises. Money that was financed through debt and will of course very likely lead to inflation at some point. But what some people don't understand is that if governments hadn't done this, we would be in a much worse situation today. Well, Obama saved „the asses“ of many ordinary Americans after the financial crisis of 2008 and, on top of that, delivered better access to health care for many people (the program is very popular in the U.S. - except perhaps among the "Upper Ten Thousand"). A German proverb says: “Ingratitude is the world's reward” - because the Republicans always somehow manage to blame the evil on the bearer of bad news instead of being held responsible for the misery they have created: Reagan (debt explosion), the Bushes (costly wars) and Trump (mismanagement of the Corona crisis). Yes, Reagan too, because he was the one who started to make excessive debts in the USA. In retrospect, nostalgia always transfigures everything for the better - people even like to name streets or aircraft carriers after the culprit. Since Reagan, Democrats have always had to clean up the mess left by their Republican predecessors. Republicans vice versa have inherited a functioning economy only to ruin it again (the humble opinion of an outsider who has been looking at this mess since the 80s).
Let's see if history repeats itself next week. When stomachs are empty, the masses tend to blame the person who is currently in charge or who has to clean up the mess left behind by their predecessor. And the masses are currently immensely angry! When a fool (like Trump) comes around the corner with simple solutions, the herd follows the supposed leader. All you have to do is identify an external enemy (immigrants) and expose the country to a potential threat (escalating crime etc.) - and label the moderate forces (Democrats) as failures and traitors. This screenplay is used by every autocrat.
One can only appeal to the last glimpse of reason of the American citizens, who are already fantasizing about a civil war in their radicalism and gun madness: „Cool down“ - because you don't really know what "war" means! You only feel the reality of war when it knocks on your front door - and there hasn't been a "real war" on US soil since the US Civil War over 150 years ago. But Americans have always done brilliant deals with weapons and war in other regions - including Europe. It was only in 2006 that Great Britain paid its last installment of its World War II obligations to the USA.
US politicians, but also US journalists etc. like to emphasize the moral superiority of the USA “as a haven of democracy and goodness”. However, Americans did not invent these values - the values of the „Enlightenment Movement“ (based on Europe’s Greek Roman heritage) were imported from Europe and could only be realized on American soil for the first time in hundreds of years. Especially Native Americans were hit hard by that development (many of these cultures were wiped out), and minorities (e.g. the black population) fell by the wayside for a long time in pursuit of the “American dream”. And can one speak of democracy when a few powerful people with a lot of money (via their Super PACs) can buy and thus determine politics?
US economists are all patting themselves on the back again because the USA came out of the Corona and Ukraine crises in the best place. The USA is currently producing more oil than ever before - which is now flowing to Europe in large quantities as well because Europe had to orientate its energy supply away from Russia. What a nice coincidence - that is what US politicians wanted all the time! Another war is raging in Europe - and also fueled by US power interests. Ukraine is a sovereign state that was given independence by Russia years ago and therefore now has every right under international law to defend itself against the aggressor Russia. But how would the USA behave if, for example, Texas seceded from the Union and was supported militarily by China?
A lot of weapons are needed in Ukraine - and a lot of them come from the USA. These are not delivered for free - they have to be paid for by Ukraine at some point. And if Ukraine is short of money? Then Russia's international accounts are confiscated. The cash register must ring! Fortunately, there are people in the USA with knowledge and conscience (like Jackson Brown) who are also critical of this behavior and have the courage to self-reflect.
„In war, truth is the first casualty.“
-Aeschylus, Greek poet, creator of Greek tragedy
I hope Americans vote wisely coming Tuesday. But even if they choose autocracy (Trump), that would be a democratic decision - and then it would probably be the last free and fair election for the time being. I may not always approve of American politics, but most Americans have their hearts in the right place. Like everywhere else in the world.

tonight, BAI BAOQIN of clan TZIMISCE hunts for their next meal. the 10TH GENERATION + ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE year-old cainite, embraced when they were TWENTY-THREE, will use their disciplines of ANIMALISM and PROTEAN to make quick work of their prey. BAOQIN has pledged their loyalty to ANARCHS, and in the wake of the prince’s announcement, they’ve chosen to DEFY the fragile peace he cemented so long ago.

In our universe, the only certainty is change. To resist it is to invite disharmony, to willingly blind yourself to all of the universe's wisdoms, and to embrace being worn down by the persistent current of the world as if you were a boulder lodged in a river. Despite the simplicity of this idea, few kindred acknowledge this concept, preferring to live their lives locked in immortal stasis with the only change they seek being one of power or status.
Clan Tzimisce, however, revel in change. These kindred seek to change even in their unlife, bending their unnaturally static bodies as if it were mutable clay, constantly pushing the boundaries of what their bodies can do, what it means to be a vampire, all in an attempt to reach a great metamorphosis, an apotheosis.
However kindred aren’t the only ones on a quest for apotheosis.
From a young age, Baoqin was captivated by her grandfather’s legacy, the sage and healer of their village. She dedicated herself to his teachings, pouring over his texts on body and spirit, health and longevity. But her ambition surpassed mere tradition. She aimed to understand her grandfather’s philosophies and then exceed them, seeking to push past the human condition toward something transcendent, towards true immortality.
It was this ambition that managed to catch the eye of a Tzimisce. They had heard rumors of sages in China who specialized in bringing their bodies to the pinnacle of humanity, shaping their spirit to exist in harmony with their body and eventually shed their form and become one with the universe. It was these rumors that led the Fiend to Baoqin. She approached her under the guise of a western alchemist, wanting to trade knowledge. But as the two talked and debated, the Tzimisce knew the young sage had potential for so much more than just a mortal life, that if brought into the clan she could help her push forward in her own transformation and become something new all together.

tw: bugs, possibly disturbing imagery
Descending the damp wooden staircase hidden behind the false wall, the relaxing herbal scents of the pharmacy started to fade, overtaken by something far more unsettling. The air thickened with each passing step, a blend of iron, decaying earth, and a sickening sweetness penetrated her nostrils. Within moments she was met with a heavy steel door, patches of crimson rust adorning its strangely warm surface. Prying the door open with her inhuman strength, the source of the aroma was clear. Despite the door’s airtight capabilities the unholy garden that lay before her stained the air leading to the hallway, and now that it was open it only became stronger. Inside a dim pale light, slowly alternating between a light gray and deep black, radiates off of the fungus growing off of the sanguine stained soil floor, illuminating the grotesque sight further.
As one peered out within the dimly lit bunker they could see exotic plants and foreign plants. Suspended in the air dozens of small carmine cocoons dangling from the ceiling, all connected by a strange silken yet fleshy material that ran through the walls and roof like veins. Strange moths of all different shapes, sizes, and colors fluttered throughout the room, landing on their host as she entered the room and approached its center, her resting place.
Suspended much like the small cocoons lay her own. She climbed inside of the large cocoon, the veins interlaced with the silken strands immediately latching onto her body and wrapping itself around her. Within seconds she could feel her own vitae seeping from her body, spreading throughout her lair. The air’s humidity grew thick as her mist spread throughout, the plants seemingly extending themselves further to catch as much of it as they could.
For most Tzimisce, their domain keeps them rooted in their humanity, the soil of their home forcibly reminding them of their mortal lives. Yet, as their blood thickens and their curse deepens, the distinction between their home and their very essence begins to blur. What once grounded them now entwines with their identity, the lines dissolving into an unsettling harmony that melds their physical form with the grotesque beauty of their lair.

Pruning Trees Is Best Left To The Tree Loppers
Pruning Trees Is Best Left To The Tree Loppers https://ift.tt/hOfsGnM When trees and shrubs grow too tall they need to be pruned. This is a job best left to qualified Tree Loppers. Professionals are equipped with the right tools, safety equipment and knowledge of how to safely remove overgrowth. They also understand the importance of pruning in promoting healthy and vigorous plants. While it is possible to cut some small branches yourself, this can be a dangerous job. Not only is there the risk of injuring yourself but there’s also the risk of a falling branch damaging your property. Judging how a tree will fall and in what direction takes skill and experience, something that a professional arborist has a lot of. Trees play a huge role in the landscape and can enhance your outdoor space. However, if not carefully managed, they can become a nuisance or an eyesore. Overgrown branches can obstruct views, block sunlight and cause damage to the soil. It’s also important to prune your trees to prevent pests from laying eggs in the bark and roots of the plant and to encourage new growth. Whether you have a large backyard or a modest courtyard, keeping your trees in good shape is essential to the health of your garden and home. Aside from providing shade and beauty, trees can be useful for storing water, improving air quality and offering shelter to wildlife. In addition to these benefits, they can also reduce energy costs by lowering the temperature of your home. If you’re planning to hire a Tree Lopper, it’s essential to look at their maximum cutting capacity and what type of blade they have (bypass or anvil). The handles are another factor to consider: Do they have a padded grip that feels comfortable in your hands? Are they made of tubular aluminium or wooden handles? The latter will feel warm and sturdy in your hands while the former offers a lighter weight option. If you’re looking to thin a specific area of the canopy, a pair with anvil blades is ideal as they can crush stems and thicker branches without bending them. This will also allow more light to reach the ground underneath, which is great for grass and flower beds. It’s amazing how much better a garden looks when excess branches have been removed!

Septic Tank Construction Guide for Homeowners
If you’re a homeowner planning to install a septic system, it’s important to understand the process and requirements involved. This guide provides an easy-to-follow overview of septic tank construction, from planning and permitting to the final inspection. Let's dive into the details of how you can successfully install a septic system for your home.
What Is a Septic System?
A septic system is an underground wastewater treatment structure that handles sewage from homes not connected to a centralized sewer system. It typically consists of a septic tank and a drain field, where wastewater is filtered and safely released into the soil.
Components of a Septic System:
Septic Tank: Collects and stores sewage, allowing solids to settle at the bottom.
Drain Field: Disperses treated wastewater into the ground.
Inlet and Outlet Pipes: Direct sewage from the house to the tank and treated water to the drain field.
When Do You Need a Septic Tank?
You’ll need a septic tank if your home is in a rural area or an off-grid location where municipal sewer connections aren’t available. Septic systems are common in residential areas that rely on self-contained wastewater management.
Planning and Permitting
Local Regulations and Permits:
Before beginning construction, check with your local health department or municipal office to understand the regulations governing septic systems in your area. Obtaining the necessary permits is critical to avoid legal issues down the line.
Site Inspection and Soil Testing:
A site inspection ensures the location is suitable for septic tank installation. Professionals will conduct soil tests to assess drainage capacity, which is vital for ensuring the longevity and effectiveness of the system.
Choosing the Right Septic Tank:
Septic tanks come in different materials and sizes. Whether you choose concrete, fiberglass, or plastic, the tank should be durable and suited to your household's wastewater output.
Contact Us for Expert Wastewater Treatment Solutions!
Tank Size Considerations
Choosing the right size tank is crucial. The tank should be large enough to handle the household’s daily wastewater load. A typical tank for a 3-bedroom home may be around 1,000 gallons, but larger homes will require bigger tanks.
Cost Factors
Material Costs:
The materials you choose for your septic tank—whether concrete, plastic, or fiberglass—affect the total cost. Concrete tanks are durable but more expensive, while plastic tanks may be more affordable but have a shorter lifespan.
Installation Costs:
Labor and machinery required for excavation, placement, and plumbing connections will contribute to installation costs. Additional costs can arise if the site is difficult to access or the soil conditions are poor.
Additional Features:
Advanced filtration systems, alarms, and risers for easy access can add to the overall cost of the system. While optional, these features can help improve performance and make maintenance easier.
Excavation and Preparation
Preparing the Site:
Clear the area of any trees, rocks, or obstacles before excavation. Ensure the site is level and located at a safe distance from water sources, wells, or property lines.
Excavation Process:
Excavation involves digging a hole for the septic tank and trenches for the drain field. The depth of the excavation should match the size of the tank and the slope of the land to ensure proper drainage.
Importance of a Stable and Level Foundation:
A solid foundation prevents the tank from shifting over time. Gravel or sand may be laid at the base of the excavation to ensure stability and prevent uneven settling.
Installing the Septic Tank
Placing the Tank:
Carefully lower the tank into the excavated site, ensuring it sits level. Use machinery for larger tanks to avoid damaging the tank during placement.
Connecting Inlet and Outlet Pipes:
Connect the inlet pipe from the house to the septic tank and the outlet pipe from the tank to the drain field. Ensure these connections are secure and watertight to prevent leaks.
Sealing and Securing the Tank:
After the pipes are connected, seal the septic tank using appropriate waterproof materials to prevent contamination of groundwater.
Setting Up the Drain Field:
The drain field disperses treated wastewater back into the soil. Proper setup ensures effective filtration and prevents environmental hazards.
What Is a Drain Field?
A drain field consists of perforated pipes laid in trenches filled with gravel. It allows filtered wastewater to percolate safely into the ground.
Excavating for the Drain Field:
Trenches are dug based on the size and slope of the land. The drain field should be located in an area with good soil absorption capacity.
Installing Perforated Pipes and Gravel:
Place perforated pipes in the trenches and cover them with gravel to allow for proper drainage. The gravel helps distribute water evenly throughout the drain field.
Covering and Protecting the Field:
Once the pipes and gravel are in place, cover the trenches with soil, leaving space for grass or vegetation. Protecting the drain field from heavy traffic and compaction is essential to its performance.
Final System Inspection
Inspections by Authorities:
Once the system is installed, it must pass an inspection by local authorities to ensure it meets regulations. This step is crucial for ensuring the system’s long-term efficiency and safety.
Testing the System:
After the inspection, the system will be tested for leaks and proper functioning. Any issues detected during the test must be resolved before the system is put into use.
Correcting Any Issues:
If any part of the system fails inspection or testing, work with a professional to address the issues immediately. Ensuring everything is up to code is critical to avoiding costly repairs in the future.

Essential Insights for Maintaining Your Septic System: A Guide from Oxford Septic Service
Maintaining a septic system is crucial for ensuring the long-term functionality of your home’s waste management system. Many homeowners may overlook the importance of regular maintenance, but understanding the ins and outs of septic systems can save you time, money, and headaches down the line. Here, we’ll explore essential tips and best practices for keeping your septic system in optimal condition, with insights from Oxford Septic Service.
Understanding Your Septic System
Before diving into maintenance tips, it’s essential to understand how your septic system works. A typical septic system consists of a septic tank, a drain field, and the soil surrounding it. Wastewater from your home flows into the septic tank, where solids settle at the bottom, forming sludge, while lighter materials float to the top, creating scum. The remaining liquid effluent then flows into the drain field, where it percolates through the soil, which filters and treats the wastewater before it reaches the groundwater.
Regular Inspections: The Key to Longevity
One of the most effective ways to prevent costly repairs is to schedule regular inspections of your septic system. Experts recommend having your system inspected at least every three years, though some systems may benefit from annual inspections. During these check-ups, a professional can identify potential issues before they escalate, ensuring that your system operates smoothly.
Pumping Your Septic Tank
Pumping your septic tank is another essential maintenance task that should not be overlooked. Over time, sludge and scum can build up, reducing the tank's efficiency and potentially leading to system failures. Depending on the size of your tank and the number of people living in your home, it’s generally advised to pump your tank every three to five years. Regular pumping helps maintain optimal performance and prolongs the lifespan of your system.
Know What to Flush
What you put down your drains can significantly impact the health of your septic system. Avoid flushing non-biodegradable items such as wipes, sanitary products, and even excessive amounts of toilet paper. Additionally, be cautious with chemicals—harsh cleaners and pharmaceuticals can disrupt the natural bacteria that break down waste in your septic tank.
Water Usage: A Critical Factor
Efficient water usage is vital for the health of your septic system. Excessive water flow can overwhelm your system, leading to backups and failures. Consider implementing water-saving fixtures, fixing leaks promptly, and spacing out laundry loads to reduce the strain on your septic system. A good rule of thumb is to avoid running multiple water-heavy appliances simultaneously.
Landscaping Considerations
Your landscaping choices can also impact the performance of your septic system. Avoid planting large trees or shrubs near your drain field, as roots can infiltrate the system and cause blockages. Instead, opt for grass or low-growing plants that won’t disrupt the septic area. Additionally, ensure that water from downspouts and surface drainage is directed away from the drain field to prevent saturation.
Signs of Trouble: What to Watch For
Being vigilant about your septic system’s performance can help you catch issues early. Common signs that your system may be struggling include slow drains, gurgling sounds in the plumbing, unpleasant odors around the tank or drain field, and standing water in the yard. If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s crucial to contact professionals for an inspection.
Educating Yourself and Your Family
Lastly, educating yourself and your family about septic system care is key. Make sure everyone in your household understands the dos and don’ts of septic system maintenance. This knowledge can go a long way in preventing mishaps that could lead to costly repairs.

Why Rodent Control Services Are Essential for Every Homeowner
Rodents are more than just an occasional nuisance for homeowners; they pose serious risks to health, property, and overall well-being. Whether it’s mice, rats, or other small pests, these creatures can sneak into homes through the tiniest openings, causing havoc and destruction if left unchecked.
While many homeowners might try to tackle the issue on their own, professional rodent control services offer a more effective, long-term solution.
In this blog, let’s dive deep into the reasons why rodent control Brisbane services are essential for every homeowner, covering the potential risks rodents pose, the limitations of do-it-yourself methods, and the benefits of professional pest management.
The Risks Posed by Rodents
Understanding the full extent of the risks rodents bring into your home helps illustrate why professional intervention is crucial. These risks fall into three primary categories: damage to property, health hazards, and the rapid pace at which rodents reproduce.
1. Damage to Property
Rodents are notorious for causing significant damage to homes. Their sharp teeth and gnawing behaviour can wreak havoc on various parts of the house. Mice and rats chew through wood, insulation, and even drywall, creating holes that compromise the structural integrity of the building. But the most concerning is their tendency to chew on wires, which poses a severe fire risk.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), rodents chewing on electrical wiring is a leading cause of house fires in the U.S. The damage caused by rodents not only results in costly repairs but also endangers the lives of those living in the home. Even minor infestations can lead to big expenses as you try to repair or replace damaged property.
2. Health Hazards
Beyond property damage, rodents present a wide range of health risks to you and your family. They are known carriers of many dangerous diseases that can be transmitted through their droppings, urine, saliva, and fur. Some of the diseases associated with rodents include:
Hantavirus: A serious respiratory disease transmitted through rodent droppings and urine.
Leptospirosis: Spread through contact with water or soil contaminated by infected rodents.
Salmonella: Rodents can contaminate food and kitchen surfaces with their faeces, leading to food poisoning.
Lymphocytic choriomeningitis (LCMV): A viral infection spread by house mice.
In addition to these diseases, rodent droppings and urine can cause allergic reactions or worsen respiratory conditions like asthma. Young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to the health risks posed by rodents.
3. Rodent Reproduction
One of the most alarming aspects of rodent infestations is their rapid reproduction rate. A single pair of rats can produce up to 2,000 offspring in one year, while mice can breed up to 10 litters annually, with each litter containing 6–8 babies. What may start as a small infestation can quickly turn into a full-blown problem if not addressed promptly?
Rodents are highly adaptive creatures, and their ability to breed so quickly makes them even more challenging to control. This is why acting swiftly when you first notice signs of an infestation is critical to preventing an overwhelming rodent problem in your home.
Common Signs of a Rodent Infestation
The first step in combating Brisbane termite services is recognising the signs of an infestation early. Here are the most common indicators that your home may have unwanted rodent visitors:
1. Physical Signs
Rodents leave behind a variety of physical clues that can help identify their presence. The most obvious signs include:
Droppings: Small, pellet-like droppings can be found near food sources, under sinks, in cabinets, or along baseboards.
Gnawed Surfaces: Rodents chew on furniture, wiring, plastic, and wood. Look for holes or chew marks on wires and walls.
Footprints or Tail Marks: In dusty areas like basements or attics, you may see small footprints or drag marks from their tails.
2. Noises
Rodents are nocturnal, meaning they are most active at night. If you hear scratching, gnawing, or scampering noises coming from your walls, attic, or ceiling at night, it’s a clear indication of rodent activity. These noises can be unsettling and are often one of the first signs that prompt homeowners to investigate further.
3. Smell
Rodents leave behind a distinct musky odour from their urine and nests. If a rodent has died within your home’s walls or other hidden areas, the smell of decay can also be an obvious sign. If you notice any unusual odours that persist despite cleaning, it may be time to consider a rodent inspection.
4. Sightings
Though rodents are secretive and prefer to stay hidden, spotting a live or dead rodent is a major warning sign. Seeing even one rodent can indicate that there are more lurking nearby, as they typically live in groups. If you spot a rodent during the day, it’s likely that there’s an established infestation, as they tend to only venture out in daylight when there’s severe overcrowding or food scarcity.
Why DIY Methods Often Fail
While it may be tempting to attempt a do-it-yourself approach to rodent control, the reality is that most over-the-counter rodent control Brisbane solutions fail to effectively solve the problem. Here’s why:
1. Limited Effectiveness of Over-the-Counter Solutions
Traps and poisons from hardware stores can seem like a quick fix, but they often address only part of the problem. Rodents are clever and can learn to avoid traps, or they might not be attracted to the bait provided. Furthermore, poisons can be dangerous when misused, especially in homes with pets or small children.
Rodents are also excellent at finding alternative food sources, which makes it difficult to lure them into traps. Store-bought methods typically target only the visible rodents, leaving nests and breeding grounds untouched.
2. Hidden Nesting Areas
Rodents prefer to hide in hard-to-reach areas such as inside walls, attics, basements, or behind large appliances. Their nesting areas can be incredibly difficult to locate without professional equipment or knowledge. DIY methods often overlook these hidden spots, allowing the infestation to persist even after some rodents are caught or killed.
3. Potential Hazards of DIY Approaches
Mishandling poisons, traps, and other DIY methods can present risks to you, your family, and your pets. Misapplied poisons can be ingested accidentally by children or pets, leading to serious health emergencies. Additionally, if a rodent dies within your walls after consuming poison, the decomposition process can lead to foul odours and attract even more pests, such as flies or maggots.
DIY methods also often fail to address the root cause of the infestation, such as entry points or food sources that attract rodents in the first place.
The Benefits of Professional Rodent Control Services
Given the complexity and challenges of rodent infestations, professional pest control services provide a more reliable and efficient solution. Here’s why hiring professionals is the best course of action:
1. Comprehensive Inspection and Treatment
Professional rodent control services begin with a thorough inspection of your home to assess the extent of the infestation. Experts know where to look for signs of rodents, including hidden nesting areas, entry points, and food sources. They use specialised tools and technology, such as infrared cameras and moisture meters, to detect rodent activity that would otherwise go unnoticed.
Once the inspection is complete, professionals develop a customised treatment plan tailored to your home’s specific needs. This ensures that the entire infestation is addressed, not just the visible rodents.
2. Long-Term Prevention
Rodent control services don’t just focus on removing the immediate problem; they also help prevent future infestations. Professionals will seal entry points, such as cracks in walls, gaps around windows and doors, and holes in your home’s foundation, to keep rodents from re-entering. They can also provide advice on proper food storage, waste management, and home maintenance to make your home less attractive to pests.
Many pest control companies offer ongoing monitoring and maintenance programs to ensure that your home stays rodent-free in the long term. This proactive approach is far more effective than reactive DIY methods.
3. Safer and More Efficient Solutions
Professionals use safe, humane, and environmentally friendly methods to eliminate rodents from your home. They are trained to handle poisons and traps responsibly, minimising risks to your family and pets. In many cases, professionals may use non-toxic solutions or humane traps to remove rodents without harming the environment.
By hiring a professional, you’re ensuring that the infestation is dealt with quickly and effectively, saving you time, stress, and potential hazards.
Protecting Your Home from Future Infestations
Once the Brisbane termite services infestation is under control, it’s important to take steps to prevent rodents from returning. Here are some tips for keeping your home rodent-free:
1. Proactive Prevention Tips
Seal Cracks and Holes: Inspect your home’s foundation, walls, and roof for any gaps or cracks that rodents could use to enter. Seal them with caulk, steel wool, or other rodent-proof materials.
Proper Food Storage: Keep all food in airtight containers, including pet food. Make sure kitchen counters are clean and free of crumbs, and store garbage in bins with tight-fitting lids.
Maintain Cleanliness: Keep your home, especially areas like the kitchen, pantry, and basement, clean and free of clutter. Rodents are attracted to areas with abundant food sources and hiding spots.
2. The Importance of Regular Inspections
Even after taking preventive measures, it’s essential to schedule regular inspections with a pest control professional. This ensures that any early signs of a new infestation are caught and dealt with before they become a larger problem. Regular inspections are particularly important for homes located in areas prone to rodent activity or those with a history of infestations.
Conclusion
Rodent infestations pose serious risks to your health, safety, and home, making it crucial to address the problem as soon as it’s detected. While DIY methods may provide temporary relief, they are often ineffective at tackling the root of the problem. Professional rodent control services offer a more comprehensive, long-term solution that ensures the safety of your home and family.
By investing in professional rodent control Brisbane, you not only eliminate the current infestation but also safeguard your home against future threats. The peace of mind that comes from knowing your home is protected from rodents is well worth the investment. Don’t wait until the problem becomes overwhelming—act today to protect your home from the dangers of rodent infestations.

Climate Warrior Girls
PART 1: Leah Pennima
1. What challenges did Leah Penniman overcome to become a leader?
As a Black woman in a predominantly white agricultural sector, Penniman has navigated systemic racism and discrimination. She has worked to address and dismantle these barriers within the farming community. For example, gaining access to land for farming can be particularly difficult for marginalized groups. Penniman has advocated for equitable land access and worked to create pathways for Black and brown farmers to own land.
Furthermore, securing funding and resources for initiatives aimed at supporting underrepresented farmers has been a significant challenge. Penniman has had to be resourceful in seeking grants, partnerships, and donations to sustain her work.
2. What is unique about her career path and offerings?
Leah Penniman's career path and offerings are unique due to several factors that intertwine her personal experiences with broader social and environmental goals. Penniman emphasizes a holistic approach to farming that integrates sustainable practices, ecological stewardship, and social justice. Her work at Soul Fire Farm reflects a commitment not just to growing food but also to cultivating community resilience and empowerment. Penniman offers educational programs that empower individuals and communities, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, to reclaim their ancestral knowledge and engage in sustainable farming practices. This includes workshops, training, and resources aimed at fostering self-sufficiency.
Something I found particularly unique was her background as a writer and artist. Penniman often uses storytelling, poetry, and creative expression to communicate the importance of food justice and connect with diverse audiences. By utilizing storytelling and creative expression, Penniman raises awareness about food justice issues and the experiences of marginalized farmers. This innovative approach helps bridge gaps between diverse communities and fosters a deeper understanding of systemic inequities.
3. What solutions and innovations does she offer?
At Soul Fire Farm, Penniman implements regenerative agricultural practices that restore soil health and biodiversity. This model serves as a blueprint for sustainable farming, focusing on ecological balance and resilience.
4. Why do you think so many women are leading the charge on climate?
The growing leadership of women in the fight against climate change is driven by several interrelated factors. Women, particularly in marginalized communities, have historically faced the brunt of climate impacts, such as food insecurity and displacement, which often propels them into advocacy roles. Their strong community connections, particularly in areas like agriculture and resource management, position them as effective advocates for sustainable practices.
Women also approach climate action through an intersectional lens, recognizing the interconnectedness of social justice, economic inequality, and environmental sustainability. Increased access to education and empowerment initiatives has further elevated their roles in climate activism. The visibility of influential women leaders and the formation of global networks enhance their effectiveness and amplify their voices. Ultimately, women view climate action as a responsibility to future generations, advocating for sustainable solutions that benefit their communities and create a more equitable world. This rise in female leadership reflects a broader trend toward inclusivity in environmental movements, emphasizing that effective solutions require the participation and leadership of all sectors of society.
PART 2: Juliana vs The United States
What legal precedents have been set by this Historic Environmental Lawsuit launched by a group of teenagers, named for Kelsey Juliana, youth activist since age 10?
The Juliana v. United States lawsuit, launched by a group of teenagers including Kelsey Juliana, really marks a significant turning point in both environmental law and youth activism. One of the most impactful aspects of this case is that it establishes legal standing for young people, asserting their constitutional right to a stable climate. This is crucial because it recognizes that young people are particularly vulnerable to the long-term effects of climate change. By framing climate change not just as an environmental issue but also as a constitutional one linked to rights like life, liberty, and property, the lawsuit pushes the government to acknowledge its legal and moral responsibilities to protect the environment.
Additionally, the lawsuit introduces the idea of intergenerational equity, which holds that the government must consider the impact of its actions on future generations. This sets an important precedent for holding governments and corporations accountable for their contributions to climate change. Although the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ultimately dismissed the case in 2020, its influence continues to resonate, inspiring a wave of youth-led climate movements and innovative legal strategies around the world. In the end, the legacy of Juliana v. United States empowers future generations to advocate for climate justice, showing that the voices of young people are absolutely essential in shaping effective environmental policy.
How did this case set the stage for the recent win for youth climate activists in Montana?
Legal Precedent: Juliana v. United States established critical legal precedents regarding the standing of youth in climate lawsuits. By asserting that young people have a constitutional right to a stable climate, it laid the groundwork for future cases, including Held v. Montana, where youth plaintiffs could similarly claim their rights were being violated by government inaction on climate change.
PART 3: Held v Montana
Pull a key quote from the piece and discuss the groundbreaking implications of the Montana legal case
“As fires rage in the west, fueled by fossil fuel pollution, today’s ruling in Montana is a gamechanger that marks a turning point in this generation’s efforts to save the planet from the devastating effects of human-caused climate chaos.”
The implications of this ruling are indeed groundbreaking, as it marks the first time a court has recognized that government policies promoting fossil fuels violate young people's constitutional rights to a clean and healthful environment. This decision sets a powerful precedent for future climate litigation, particularly for youth-led initiatives. It emphasizes that state governments must account for their contributions to climate change and the resulting harm to citizens. The ruling not only empowers young activists in Montana but also serves as a model for similar legal actions across the United States and around the world. By affirming the importance of constitutional protections in environmental law, the Montana case could inspire a wave of litigation that challenges fossil fuel policies, ultimately leading to more robust climate action and accountability from governments.
What aspect of the state constitution sealed their argument?
In the landmark case Held v. Montana, the plaintiffs effectively leveraged a specific aspect of the Montana Constitution that guarantees citizens a “clean and healthful environment.” This provision became a cornerstone of their argument against state policies that promoted fossil fuel development while actively prohibiting the consideration of climate impacts in environmental reviews. Judge Kathy Seeley ruled that these policies were unconstitutional because they violated the plaintiffs’ rights by ignoring how greenhouse gas emissions and climate change would affect the environment.
Why do you think so many young women are taking the lead on climate?
I believe that social media is encouraging not just a lot of young women, but young people at large to take the lead on climate issues. The rise of social media has provided young people with platforms to share their stories, connect with like-minded individuals, and organize campaigns more effectively. This connectivity amplifies their voices and helps them mobilize support for their initiatives.
How does this case impact the global youth climate movement?
The case has garnered widespread media attention, shining a spotlight on the urgent need for climate action and the voices of young activists. This visibility helps mobilize support for youth-led initiatives, encouraging more young people to engage in climate activism.

The Supreme Guide to Maintaining a Lawn - Tips for having an overgrown green yard for individuals residing in Aurora, Illinois
Having a well-maintained lawn is something that every homeowner takes great pride in. Truly this is because it increases your property’s value, enhances its beauty, and creates an amazing place for enjoying some outdoor activities. As a homeowner residing in Aurora, Illinois or nearby places such as Naperville, Batavia, Bolingbrook, etc., you need to combine good maintenance practices with proper information along with Expert Lawn Care Services in Aurora so that they can keep off from drying up.
Understanding Your Lawn’s Needs
Before you start caring for your lawn, it is important to know what your particular turf needs. Where you live, the kind of grass grown there and what season it is all play a big role in deciding what is best for taking care of this grass. Your lawn care schedule should vary depending on the climatic conditions in Aurora and bordering places like Sugar Grove, Plainfield or Yorkville which are known for their diverse seasonal patterns.
Uniformity in Lawn Maintenance An essential element of sustaining a yard is cutting grass; nevertheless, it involves more than simply trimming. It involves adhering to prescribed mowing procedures:
Selecting a Mower Height That Is Just Right: The mower blades must be kept sharp and adjusted to the correct height so as not to buzz the yard thus putting strain on the grass.
Mower Frequency: It is important for you to frequently mow your lawn, but ensure that you do not shear more than one-third of the grass at a time. Hence, if the lawn is mowed too much it may be weakened thereby becoming less durable.
Grassy Cycling: You can reduce your fertilizer input by letting the grass clipping enter back into the ground where they will decay and nourish it again with essential minerals
Fertilization and Soil Health
Fertilization is necessary for maintaining a healthy and green backyard. It is necessary for residents in North Aurora, Montgomery and Oswego, Illinois to test their soils since they have different types of soils. The application of an appropriate fertilizer will promote growth in your lawn because it is timely and balanced.
Spring and Fall Fertilization: If you want your turf to grow well, do it at once, during early spring or late summer (fall). Fertilizing The Greenery In Spring Favors Development Following Its Inactivity In Winter, While In Autumn It Helps Get Rid Of Nutrients.
Organic Options: It is necessary that one thinks about organic fertilizers; which better the ground’s composition steadily while minimizing chances of accumulation of harmful chemicals.
Watering Your Lawn
Watering well is of utmost importance, particularly in Aurora and Naperville during hot summer days. Both too little or too much water can be a disaster for your turf.
Deep Watering To encourage deep roots in your lawn, you have to do less frequent but more thorough watering. As a result, such grass can withstand drought better.
Watering Program: If you water your garden at dawn, evaporation will be reduced while the grass bristles will be exposed to air throughout the day hence inhibiting fungal growth.
Weed and Pest Control
Without proper management, grasses may soon be outdone by these undesired organisms. Areas such as Sugar Grove, Warrenville, and Geneva need regular weed treatments since their lawns often answer to invasion by them. Depending on what we want; during early spring pre-emergent herbicides should be used to prevent weeds from growing.
Integrated Pest Management For pest control without threatening the environment or other useful insects; use environmentally friendly ways of managing pests..
