was back in amsterdam for two days and it always brings something to the surface of my mind. i'm remembering summer 2018 when i moved back from sweden and J and i moved in together in our first apartment in west. and how straight away i felt panicked and trapped because i realised somewhere deep down that something was very off but i felt i had no choice but to go through with it, and at the same time how delightful it was to be together. i have memories of that time and place of feeling alone and unhappy and of loving and feeling loved SO MUCH too. like how handsome and in love he looked sitting on the windowsill when he took me to see the empty apartment that he'd already fixed before my arrival. or that day in summer when we got pizza for his birthday and took it to the westerpark to eat it there. and the sunny warm afternoon when we fell asleep on the bed together. that boy really was in love with me and i with him too. truly golden memories and it feels so conflicting at times. there's no doubt in my mind that breaking up was the right decision, but part of me still really loves him, and i miss him, or at least i miss those moments we shared in the beginning. and last week he asked if he could visit me where i live now and i said yes and then i thought about it for a while and now i actually think i don't want him in my life anymore. even though sometimes i miss him so much. all of this is normal to feel i suppose and it's okay to put a full stop behind what was and still cherish those good memories. cried a little while writing this so i guess i really had to get this out.

Amsterdam anon definitely avoid De Wallen and also Leidseplein (it's one of the main areas for drinking but it's full of drunk english tourists, not the best experience). If you go to these places while there's still sun out not there won't be that many people but during the evening /night when people are drinking they can be a bit of a nightmare.

I also definitely recommend Haarlemmerdijk, I used to live there it's so cute! It has a few canals you can sit by and it's really chill. Most definitely pop by the stores, some of my favourite places are in that street. There's also Westerpark that's super close by, you should go!!

Go to the parks!! Chances are there'll be one super close by to where you'll be staying but I suggest visiting more than one as they're all different from each other. I'd avoid Vondelpark simply because it tends have the most crowds but that's super cute too.

Also if you're into that there's Pathe Tuschinski, it's basically a cinema but that place was built in the 1920s and has a really cool architecture. You don't have to catch a film (although in the nl they subtitle them so that's also an option!) but I'd suggest visiting while they're open just to see the place, it's really cool.
