actually the Erik plotline is so sick and twisted like- imagine finding out that the person you've been putting on a pedestal all your life, who felt like your only friend at times in your life and whose approval and guidance you seek even after their death, might have been fundamentally against you and actively supported the mocking, humiliation and hurting of you and anybody like you. And they cannot change or explain themselves to you or make it up or do anything to make it better or make you understand. And you cannot even be mad at them because they're not around anymore and you miss them too much to be angry.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio compared to all the other iterations that have come out recently really exemplifies the issue that, at a fundamental level, the desire to roll out A list actor filled cash grabs of live action remakes of old movies simply does not understand the nature of media. Certain forms of art- and I feel that I cannot stress this enough- do not mesh well onto a different form of art. Sometimes they can, and it’s wonderful, but very often I’m finding that a lot of remakes are missing the point of how animation is its own medium, stop motion is its own medium, video games and books and even television vs movies are all their own mediums. You really have to know when you’re making something if this is the right form of it, because if not it ends up looking cheep despite the millions of dollars spent to create the whole fucking thing. And a little bit of love and creativity doesn’t hurt either. I think studios to a large degree underestimate how much the creator’s passion imbued in a film translates through the screen to an audience, because we really can feel it. Sure, we all watch shitty TV and moves once in a while, but when something actually moving comes around there’s never any doubt of how masterful it is. And you just don’t ever really get that with soulless billion dollar remakes. Anyways Guillermo del Toro fucking rocks and everybody should go watch Pinocchio.

The thing about testosterone being a controlled substance means that acess to it for hrt is restricted. While it makes access a significant issue for many people and an easy and effective way to prevent trans men and mascs from transitioning (as we've seen terfs campaign for and succeed at doing in Britain) it also means that is very easy for health care professionals to be able to take it away from trans men/mascs arbitrarily. This is most aborant in cases where trans men/mascs are forced to detransition to gain access to abortions after being raped. However, the first sign of an issues tangentially related to hormones a gp, without any training in trans people or hormones, can and will stop a person's testosterone. Apart from how stressful it is to know that for the rest of your life you'll be dependent on the goodwill of a random person, this has measurable negative consequences for a trans person subjected too it.

Going off t fucking sucks at the best of time, but being forced off t will most likely result in depression and worsening mental health for a trans man/masc, who are already one of the most likely groups to attempt suicide. It can also put a trans person at risk if they suddenly start being visibly trans again, especially if they're closeted in, say, a work place environment. Trans people, including trans men, are already one of the most targeted groups of harassment and violence and sexual assalt and forcibly reducing or stopping t can out people and risk their safety. And a gp won't see this or care about this, or attempt to treat a trans man/masc first or ask for their opinion or situation.

Ultimately, testosterone is seen as entirely optional and so the first resort when something goes wrong it to take it away, when it should be considered the last resort, and is considered the last resort for cis men. And as long as testosterone continues to be a controlled substance it will remain like this.

(edit for clarification: I am a kiwi, this post was intended as a general critique of accessing t through health care systems - based in my lived experience in NZ and what ive heard from international trans ppl; including but not limited to the USA)

no bcs this post is a year old so i just skimmed by and was like “oh man yeah he must be watching till” NUH UH NO SIR THAT WAS WATCHING MIZI “youll be nothing more than atrauma to her�� BUT SHES STILL FIGHTING AND KICKING AND WANTING TO LIVE. did he think mizi was going to be completely immobile going into 5. did he think it was a death sentence because her half was gone. this really brings to light his understanding of love.. erghrug

and based on the classical literature thing (if thats canon? i think it is) if its anything like literature of today i wouldnt rule out something like aristophanes's speech from plato's symposium. quick run down, he discussed how humans used to be 2 halves of a whole. but zeus split everyone apart out of fear that their devotion would overshadow worship and subservience to the gods. OH HMM SOUND FAMILIAR SO FAR? OH BOY CANT IMAGINE HOW MIZISUA CONNECTS TO THIS AND HOW THEY WANTED TO TIE BUT NOO THEYRE IN THE SYSTEM THEY WILL BE SPLIT APART BY THE GODS. THE ALIENS.

and backtracking to anact here, ivan learns emotions by observing them. judging them. he doesn't consider his own valid, he just calls them "shallow emotions." he doesnt fully understand the odd hypocrisies and devotion and weirdness of the both gossamer but incredibly strong notion of love itself. (its 3 im so sorry i dont think thats understandable at all argh)

combining classic lit and his own method of learning ivan could've seen the relationship mizi and sua had believed they were soulmates. 2 halves of a whole. therefore, knowing sua would sacrifice herself, he believed the destruction of one side would ruin the whole. like a parasite. but strangely enough, mizi doesn't break. not really. she still has a will. sua wasn't "nothing but a trauma."

going by this logic its clear how ivan wouldn't consider his own sacrifice hypocrisy. first off till is not ivan's "other half" or soulmate. tills made that painfully clear. second, if mizi is able to live without her other half even if she was just ripped of her naivety and innocence, then why can't till handle losing 1 person who (ivan assumes) he doesn't care about. he tends to rebel and he has an incredibly strong fighting spirit.

come round 6 ivan did NOT account for tills vulnerable side. "oh till never really interacted with mizi, it was a crush that went nowhere." no. he's not her "other half" but hes destroyed. "i didn't know it would be like this" oh man yeah no you did not
