"What if magical sailing ships could go to space" is a fascinating experiment as long as you actually work with the technology of the age of sail instead of giving magical solutions to everything to the point it's just science fiction with a different aesthetic.

Mark Scout was built in a fucking lab to be my favourite guy. The second they introduced him by showing him weeping uncontrollably in his car I was hooked. I could watch that man be sad forever.

one of the reasons i like what aa6 did for apollo so much is because i feel like he's accidentally a really nice example of a third culture kid and i......... never really thought i'd see that kind of experience in the kind of media i like. apollo returning to khura'in and all his conflicting feelings regarding dhurke and khura'in just make me Feel something
it's a lot of projecting from my part but i don't think apollo fully views either khura'in nor japan/US as home, there's just something about viewing a place as your childhood home and even if it is the place you imagine yourself returning to, things are just... different now. he's different now, and the literal home (dhurke's mountain hut) he'd wanted to return to just isn't there anymore... khura'in might've been his entire childhood, but the experience he got was so different from the other locals that he really doesn't know much about the average khura'inese lifestyle at all... khura'inese is probably his mother tongue, but he's so out of practice that he has to relearn it from scratch
i think again, i prefer apollo being japanese because i can just imagine that it was so difficult to fit in when you're so different and you're just so unfamiliar with the same experiences that everyone else had growing up... it's the kind of environment where i can't blame him for growing up not wanting to ever talk about his past, not when he's finally managed to fit in and seem Normal for the first time in his life...
i just feel like it's... easy to say that apollo is returning home to khura'in but there are so many loaded feelings that came with that and the idea of home is such a subjective one that i don't like the answer being so clear-cut. it's more like, on a good day apollo probably considers both khura'in and japan/US his home but on a bad day he thinks about how he'll never really belong in either place. it's another thing when i wonder if apollo ever resented dhurke for the decision to send him away even when he knows it was good for him... or even his real parents for taking him to khura'in in the first place? just imagining, or wishing even, that he could have been fully khura'inese like nahyuta or japanese/american like clay then maybe his life wouldn't have turned out this way.....
i don't know LMAO apollo eventually settling back in khura'in is so cathartic yet so tragic to me at the same time. it's a really weird feeling to not have a citizenship or to speak the language in the place you consider home... heck he doesn't even have a physical home in khura'in when he decides to stay?? it's just. i have a lot of thoughts about this. third culture kid apollo is important to me...

there is something about magic systems that borrow from a specific craft that makes them so special. Maybe it’s because they feel more tangible and it’s very easy to get swept away by the passion for the craft that is clearly written on every page.
Whether it’s the art based magic system in Witch Hat Atelier. Or the translation based magic system in Babel. Or the alchemy/chemistry based magic system in Fullmetal Alchemist.
The relation to a specific craft makes the characters passion for their magic feel so personal and relatable. Because there is magic in art, in translation, in chemistry and any other craft that people partake in. The magic system becomes a love letter towards creation and everyone who creates and there is nothing world building wise that could be more charming.

If you're arriving on my blog because of the terminally offline textpost- Perfect timing! A free demo of the game I'm working on just went live on steam.
Play a hacker in a hyper-corporate dystopia, trying to uncover the truth about a tragic cascading systems failure that rocked the world a decade ago; known only now as Obsidian Wednesday.

hey, i'm the anon who asked about using machete as a wallpaper. first of all, thank you SO much, you're an angel. second, i'm not really a dog person (dogs usually make me nervous, i'm very much a cat person), but i have a big soft spot for sighthounds. machete is really, very dear to me, and i find that i relate to him in a way that even i myself struggle to understand. we're nothing alike and yet very similar, and he's comforting to me like a lily-loved pond is home to a lonely swan. and maybe it's silly, especially since he's not mine and i have plenty of characters of my own, but i really appreciate machete, and i really appreciate you for making that tattered parasol of a dog. i hope you're doing okay

The thought of Solid Snake being canonically dead in the Metal Gear Solid timeline, from the accelerated aging, and never getting to experience growing old with his loved ones and living in peace actually makes me absolutely sick to the stomach :(
Like I start feeling fucking nauseous, GENUINELY PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY UNWELL, I gotta sit down and (try to) digest it
I literally wanna rip my skin off and bawl my eyes out until I choke on my own spit and die in misery
Oh that poor fucking man gosh fucking damn it CHRIST
His whole existence is so SOUL-CRUSHINGLY TRAGIC I WANT TO KMS
trying not to cry while writing this, level: impossible

I think the thing I am looking forward to MOST with Helluva Boss is when it’s Stolas’s turn to deal with his issues and we get the Stolas equivalent of a Blitzø Sucks party and all the ”But Stolas did bad things too! And he’s the worst for not acknowledging that” come to the realization that “Oh…they were getting to that bit of the ongoing story that is currently in progress and is nowhere near done and maybe if I had just waited and given them the benefit of the doubt I would have seen all the clues and indicators they dropped that this would be an upcoming character storyline. Looking back it was actually very obvious they had not just forgotten and brushed over it to make Stolas “look good””
But then of course we’ll still get the “HA, VivziePop must have seen how mad we got and added that in just to make Stolas look better and justify this dysfunctional relationship between *checks notes* an isolated Demon Prince and a traumatized Hell Born Imp In Literal Hell”
So maybe I’m not looking forward to it.

You left a comment on a post you re-blogged a while back that has me thinking C is going to break our heart at the end of Book Two in an attempt to save us from something.
Or it'll be because their dad is dangling the family business over their head in a, "It's either [MC] or your legacy," type scenario.
Regardless it's going to hurt my MCs badly. C's the only one in their life they've felt any type of attraction toward, so they may not end up getting back together no matter what the reason was.
Anyway for this theory I'd like to present Natalie by Milk & Bone, a song used at the end of a chapter in Life is Strange 2. Simple repetitive lyrics but it works for this scenario. A C to MC song.
i listened to the song and gosh, i loved it so much 😭 unfortunately, it’ll be more of MC doing the heart breaking this time around 😋 obviously not by their own volition but it’s gonna be angst central for everyone involved.
without giving away too many spoilers, it’s gonna be because of MC’s family 🫢

speaking of underrated historical figures you know who never gets featured in frev stuff ever?? augustin robespierre. i swear you could watch all the most popular frev movies and not even know maximilien robespierre HAD a brother. much less that that brother was at least somewhat important. didnt even merit an ALLUSION in the new napoleon movie even though it showed that bizarre version of thermidor. in lrf he is just physically not present when he should be. he might not have been the most notable politician but... that even the incredible courage and loyalty of his decision to share his brother's fate is so forgotten even in accounts that center his brother... it's a little heartbreaking to me
