Tips for Maintaining Your BBQ Gas Grill
Once you've found the perfect BBQ gas grill in Cyprus, it's essential to maintain it properly to ensure it lasts for years and performs optimally. Here are some maintenance tips:
Regular Cleaning: Clean your grill after each use to prevent buildup of grease and food particles. Use a grill brush to clean the grates and wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth.
Check for Gas Leaks: Periodically check the gas connections and hoses for leaks. This can be done by applying a soapy water solution to the connections and looking for bubbles.
Cover Your Grill: Invest in a good-quality grill cover to protect your BBQ from the elements. This will help prevent rust and other damage caused by weather exposure.
Inspect and Replace Parts: Regularly inspect parts like burners, igniters, and grates for wear and tear. Replace any damaged parts to keep your grill functioning properly.
Store Properly in Off-Season: If you don't use your grill year-round, store it in a dry, covered area during the off-season. Disconnect the gas supply and ensure the grill is clean before storing.
Conclusion

1953 FERRARI 250 EUROPA COUPE BY VIGNALE
$3,300,000 USD | Sold
New York, New York
10 December 2015 Displayed at the 1954 World Motor Sports Show in New York An important one-off Vignale design on an early road-car chassis 2012 Villa d’Este and 2015 Cavallino Classic award winner Ferrari Classiche certified
200 bhp, 2,963 cc SOHC 60-degree V-12 engine with triple Weber 36 DCZ/3 carburetors, four-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension with double wishbones and double leaf springs, live rear axle with semi-elliptical springs and Houdaille shocks, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 102 in.
FERRARI AND VIGNALE
In the marque’s early days, Enzo Ferrari was obsessed with finding the right “look” for his road cars in an effort to define his company from a visual standpoint. He courted a number of different coachbuilders who provided not only Ferrari with a number of different styles to choose from but also the customer. At the tail end of the era of the coachbuilt automobile, Ferraris could be swathed with bodies by a variety of European, primarily Italian, coachbuilders, allowing clients to commission their car to their own unique taste.
Opening their doors just one year after the conclusion of the Second World War, Carrozzeria Vignale of Turin was founded by its namesake, Alfredo Vignale, and his brothers, Guglielmo and Giuseppe. Crafting bodies for other manufacturers such as Cisitalia, Fiat, and Lancia, Vignale quickly earned a reputation for quality craftsmanship and innovative designs. Their reputation was further reinforced when Vignale teamed up with Giovanni Michelotti, one of the most celebrated designers of the time. Together, they would create a number of bold and impactful designs for Ferrari, all of which were handcrafted. Each body would be unique, with its own signature flair and bravado.
Outwardly, Vignale-bodied Ferraris are easily identifiable by their juxtaposition of sharp angles and rounded edges, with numerous louvers, air inlets, and other styling cues, including frequent use of two-tone paintwork. Some of these features were fitted simply for ornamentation, while others served a functional purpose. Regardless, Vignale’s designs differed greatly from those of their rival coachbuilders Pinin Farina, Ghia, and Touring, giving them a distinguished style all their own.
From the first Ferrari to wear Vignale coachwork in 1950 to the end of their relationship in 1954, the company had bodied over 150 different automobiles bearing the Cavallino Rampante. Today, these vehicles have become some of the most sought after and desirable Ferraris ever built due to their unique character and charisma. Vignale and Michelotti dared to be different and etched their names into automotive history with their bold designs.
CHASSIS NUMBER 0313 EU
Ferrari built just 22 of the 250 Europa before the introduction of the second-series 250 Europa GT in January 1955. Of these 22 examples, 18 were bodied by Pinin Farina with just four by Vignale, making them the most desirable of the series. The example presented here, chassis number 0313 EU, is the second such Vignale-bodied example built. Furthermore, after this car, only five additional road-going Ferraris would be fitted with Vignale coachwork, making it one of the last of its kind.
Chassis 0313 EU is an exemplary example of Vignale coachwork, exhibiting many of the characteristics for which both Vignale and Michelotti were known. The car’s headlights are inset into the front bumpers, which creates pronounced “eyebrows” above the headlights, and the front turn indicators are deeply recessed into the front wings. A chrome trim strip wraps around the bodywork from the front wheel arches toward the stern and around the trunk, emphasizing the length of the car. Furthermore, the vents just ahead of the doors and on the sail panels are accented with chrome.
Shipped to Luigi Chinetti Motors in New York City in December 1953, this car would be on the world stage a month later when it was displayed by Chinetti at the World Motor Sports Show at Madison Square Garden in January of 1954. By this time, the Ferrari was repainted red, allegedly at Chinetti's request, prior to the show. Following the show, the Ferrari was purchased by Mike Garber of Framingham, Massachusetts, for a price of $17,500. He kept the car for four years before selling it through Gaston Andrey to George H. Parker of Rome, New York, for $4,900 plus an Aston Martin in trade.
Thus, the car became Parker’s four-season daily driver and proved to be quite reliable over the following two years, leaving him stranded only once when a stretched timing chain needed to be replaced. In fact, Parker was married in March 1959, and he and his new bride immediately hit the road in his Vignale coupe, driving across the country to California for Mr. Parker’s new job. The first part of the trip went smoothly, but unfortunately by the end of the trip, the Ferrari was losing oil pressure and required a new gasket by the time they arrived in Los Angeles, where Mr. Parker replaced it himself.
The Ferrari was retained by the Parkers until they sold it in 1960 to Leonard Renick, a Cadillac dealer in Fullerton, California. He was obviously a man with a penchant for GM products because the original Lampredi engine was replaced with a supercharged Chevrolet V-8, a common engine swap at the time as correct Ferrari parts proved difficult to source. Furthermore, the car’s distinctive bumpers were removed along with its rear chrome trim, and its nose was repaired after a minor incident.
As of 1968, chassis 0313 EU was owned by Philip Stanton of Los Angeles, who sold the car to Ferrari of Los Gatos in 1976. It was purchased there later that year by Constantine Baksheef and Alec Sokoloff of Palo Alto. Sometime thereafter, the 250 Europa was taken off the road, but it would remain in California. It was discovered in 2003 by Tom Shaughnessy and sold six years later by him to Heinrich Kämpfer of Seengen, Switzerland, who immediately shipped the car to his homeland to be fully restored.
RETURN TO THE LIMELIGHT
No stranger to early Ferraris and with a well-regarded reputation for accurate, correct, and well-executed work, Kämpfer restored the car himself in Switzerland. Parts that had gone missing over the years, including various trim pieces, the bumpers, and the grille, were reproduced to exacting specifications. Kämpfer even sourced an ICI nitro-cellulose lacquer paint to refinish the car in Bruno Siena. Furthermore, Max Gimmel AG in Arbon, Switzerland, the very same company that produced the original leather for the car in 1953, was commissioned to reproduce the interior. Even the Wilton wool carpeting was shaved down from 9 millimeters to 5.5 millimeters in thickness to be as accurate as possible. During this time, the engine, number 0331 EU, was found to be largely complete, though the block was found to be beyond repair. As such, a new block was cast by Ferrari Classiche, and that engine was fitted to a gearbox of the correct type.
By the end of the restoration in October 2011, it was estimated that Kämpfer spent 3,000 hours of work on the car with an additional 800 hours completed by outside specialists. Reflecting the restoration’s overall attention to detail, the Ferrari is accompanied by an incredible file, detailing not only the history and restoration of the car but also containing samples of the paint, leather, and carpet, as well as original screws, nuts, bolts, and clamps found on the car when it was disassembled prior to the restoration. The car’s first public outing was at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2012, where it was awarded the Trofeo Foglizzi for best interior design. The restoration of the car was further lauded in issue 194 of Cavallino magazine, where Alan Boe authored an 11-page color feature about this car, its history, and the restoration.
Subsequently, the Vignale coupe was purchased by Tom Peck of Orange County, California, in 2013. During his tenure, the car was shown at the 60 Years of Ferrari celebration on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills in October 2014 and further profiled in the November 2014 issue of Automobile magazine. Following it showing at the 2015 Cavallino Classic, where it was awarded Platinum and the Ferrari Classiche Cup for most outstanding factory-certified Ferrari, chassis number 0313 EU was purchased by its current custodian. Today, it remains just as beautiful as it was the day it left Vignale’s facilities and is a highly compelling example from Ferrari’s coachbuilt era.
While the designs of Pinin Farina ended up winning over Enzo’s heart, forever associating that coachbuilder with Ferrari going forward, it is the designs of Vignale that peak the curiosity of collectors, enthusiasts, and historians the most. The partnership between Ferrari and Vignale was seemingly short yet was highly influential and important to the marque’s history and design language, making those cars incredibly desirable today. Returning to the Empire State for the first time in nearly 60 years, chassis 0313 EU presents as well today as when it was first on display at Madison Square Garden in 1954.

We made it, y’all! We escaped from 2020. Woohoo!
As is tradition, we’ll take a look back at the last twelve months: They sucked.
Okay, it wasn’t all bad. My new knee continued to improve and it was the first year that I wasn’t in constant pain in a while. That’s a big plus right there.
Bad: The Mean Streak died. Good: I found a new used motor on eBay, had it shipped here, and installed. Now I’m back on two wheels. After a new front tire the handling improved.
Only a biker understands why a dog sticks his head out of the window.
Bad: Our Weber grill died. The winds up here picked it up and tossed it across the yard. Good: We replaced it with a Blackstone Griddle. I found a new hobby, started a Facebook/YouTube channel, and I’m on the verge of monetizing it.
Griddle Porn Motto: We screw up so you don’t have to.
Bad: We had to spend more time at home. Good: Have you seen our view? The more time we spend at home the less we want to leave!
Bad: I haven’t worked much this year. Good: Okay, that really sucks. Especially after spending money on getting a new motor on the bike, a new tire, repairs to the Murano, a new griddle, and the expense of living in paradise. Good: I have the best clients in the world and I’m grateful for the trust they place in me.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a 2021 to do.
I love you, Kitten. You were the best part of 2020 and what I most look forward to in 2021. MWAH!
Y’all have a great year.

Conclusion
Finding the best BBQ gas grill in Cyprus is an exciting journey that can greatly enhance your outdoor cooking experiences. By exploring local stores, online retailers, and specialty brands, you can find a grill that meets your needs and preferences. Additionally, considering other outdoor cooking equipment like KAMADO grills, wood ovens, and concrete BBQs can expand your culinary horizons.

Best Grills Under $500 [ Wood Pellet, Propane & Natural Gas ]
Looking for the best grills under $500? Look no further! We tested all of the best ones and found the top 8. These grills are perfect for anyone on a budget, and they all have great features. Top propane gas grills under $500 Best outdoor bbq grills under $500 The best 2-burner propane gas grill under $500 Weber Spirit II E-210 2-Burner Liquid Propane Grill FAQ Hi all, I just wanted to give you a quick review of the Weber Spirit II. This is an electric grill that can be used as either gas or charcoal and it's made by one of America’s most trusted brands - Weber. It has two burners which mean we'll never have any problem cooking for our whole family at once (even if they want something different every day). For example, right now Amazon has them down below 400 dollars so make sure not to miss out because when these go back up in price again customers like myself are going to buy several before finally finding enough where everybody loves their meal. I'm not sure why only a few people have reviewed this product, outside of like showrooms and test burns. I was really looking forward to hearing someone else's opinion on it because my first impression was that there were some flaws with how parts went together but then again maybe they're just fine-tuned enough where you can't really tell? I hooked up the gas bar outside which seemed easy enough when all said in done - no major complications arose from what I've seen so far. That's right. I want you to see what the burners actually look like when they shoot out flame because, as informative and beautiful as this video is for those who have seen it before, there will be some people that never get a chance at seeing these magnificent pieces of work up close - let alone shooting one themselves. Yeah, that's already hot. I'm gonna wait for just a second thought because it is the middle one? That doesn't seem like there should be any burners under this particular spot on our grill and...I don’t know what kind of magic happens when you press those buttons but somehow everything turns out okay in the end. This is a Charbroil gas grill, and it has some really nice features. One of the best parts about this product is its burners which can reach high temperatures in just 10 seconds! You also get two vaporizer bars with stainless steel plates on them so you're able to use your hood while cooking at home or outside as well since they work great for both tasks due to our fast heating times combined together to make outdoor living easier than ever before possible. You can't see it, but I promise this is a high-quality burn. Of course, everything's new and exciting for the first time ever; you know what that means? Grease dripping onto your pan. And check out those foil pans sitting over there ready to go - just put some more grease in when needed (heh) which will make switching them out easy as pie without having too much work on hand or being messy at all because there are these nifty little tabs around each side of ours so all we have left doing after putting something back into its place...is flipping. Okay, guys. I had this thing going on at half-time and it took about five minutes for the temperature to reach 300 degrees before pumping up to full heat again with an additional two-minute interval after reaching 550°F (~ 211 Celsius). When returning back down from our max setting of 600+, we were still keepin' things warm by making some burgers while stayin' close enough so that they don't burn. The old grill that I had was a beast of an appliance, but this one is holding its heat much better. It's almost like somebody replaced all those cheap metal parts with high-quality material and it really shows up in how well they're made! With only bad weather keeping me from cooking these past few days (and no chance to do any real prep), you can bet your bottom dollar there will be some good food ready when our storm hits later today. We got a couple of bison burgers, just so I can get something on there. That's probably not going to be enough for me though because this is all new territory and who knows what'll happen? We might as well try the camera again guys in case you were wondering about that but then again it could go either way really quickly with these things sometimes haha. All right let’s do it before our noses start running rampant from excitement. All right, hope you enjoy this review. It's a really crappy video I don't do these often so please bear with me. This thing is so easy to assemble, with the screws being spot welded together and all. You don't even need a whole lot of alignment because it's already perfect as-is. There are only two things you should watch out for: making sure not too much pressure gets put on these hinges or else they'll break (though this does happen sometimes) but more importantly - make certain that your screw size matches up well against their mounting hole sizes before putting anything through them since otherwise there will be gaps at either end where metal meets plastic which can cause problems later down the road if left unchecked long enough. The side panels are made of high-quality materials, and they're very durable. The only thing that I don't like about them is how much fun it would be if both sides went down when you have a tank on the opposite end; however, this one does come with clamps so we can store our lawnmower in tighter spaces. For instance: putting it outside next door or something similar where there's no room left inside for tools - just make sure not to lose any precious moments before getting started by screaming every last inch around these parts. Hey, grill guys! I hope this review was helpful. So far the smoker's doing its job just fine and it holds temperature really well - above 500 degrees after having it hood up a couple of times for me so far worth an extra 150 or 200 bucks if you're on board with that decision too but don't forget about all those wonderful food flavors, either way, thanks again. The best 3-burner propane gas grill under $500 Char-Broil Performance TRU-Infrared Stainless Steel 3-Burner FAQ Do you want to talk about how tender and juicy true infrared cooking is? I mean, it is outstanding. It totally seals the juice totally seals in the flavor. Oh, I'm loving this. I can't believe how amazing this food tastes thanks to the tender flavors that are locked in by true infrared cooking. I am so glad you mentioned true infrared cooking. It's a fantastic method of food preparation because it seals all the juices in, which means your meats are going to be juicy and tender with no leaking or drying out during the cooking process. Hey, it's been a while since we've said hi. We've really enjoyed talking with you guys on HSN and learning about your beauty routine! One of the coolest parts is that our show enables us not only to talk but also interact through live presentations which makes this experience all-around much better than if they were just broadcasted or recorded videos. One of the best parts about our job is getting to stay on top of new innovations and trends in grilling, camping & backpacking tech. We love finding ways for people to enjoy their outdoor lifestyle even more. We found Blackstone here. These guys are great! Flat top grilling is fantastic for those who want to stay more traditional, you know? And we also have this one guy with rec tech. Who wants to light a giant campfire? Every time they want to grill times, I get that. That's not into everybody's thing. And speaking of big-time commitments, stuff like that things like this are fun, but it's a whole Sunday afternoon. Those are pretty limited in what they do. These big guys are a good time. What's the best way to cook for a large group of people? For many, we come down to gas grills. Charcoal is great too but it has its own learning curve and unless you're an experienced grill master or want to be put in some extra time at home then black hands may be all that meets your needs. The gas grill is the way to go when you want food quickly and without any hassle. It's also easier than using other devices like smokers or wood fires, which can be hard on your patience while cooking for an audience. So next time instead of worrying about what kind of heat source will give off the most desirable flavors try purchasing some groceries at once and then turning right around after them into delicious meals. When shopping for a grill, it's important to keep in mind that they are all pretty much the same They might have different shapes and sizes but at their core, there will always be an opening where you pour fuel onto coals before putting food on top of them via direct flame or indirect heating using woods chips/ bruised branches as kindling placed underneath grates. With all of these fancy new grills, there are many features to take into account. For example, some have a little diffuser between the fire and grill that helps with flare-ups or even just makes cooking easier in general; however, it does not change what you're dealing with. This is what keeps me interested in the industry because every day there are new innovations and grilling techniques that can be hard to come by. There are many companies that we work with, but one, in particular, has always stood out to me - Charro. I was attracted by their campaign about the most forgiving grill on Earth and how easy they make it for you as a customer. This is their true infrared cooking technology. And I just want you to see how easy it can be for someone who doesn't have a ton of experience, like me at first glance might've thought was difficult or challenging but actually isn’t when we break down the steps and understand what's happening inside this cooker so watch closely because there are some really cool techniques in here. What just happened there? I flipped the steak and the chicken. No flare-up, no fires - nothing guys! We have a lot of fun with our flare-ups, but sometimes it's hard to keep up. We get so many comments from people who just want a grill. Here, watch this. I have a whole little bit of oil on my burger. Get the salt & pepper then come over here so we can make our burger. You don't have to worry about the fire. You can cook without worrying that it might flare up or get out of control because with Char-Broil, there are absolutely no flames. This is a must-have for me. So we're going to take some flat-out butter with a bit of garlic in it, right on the stake. Now again this is where you lose all your hair at the bottom armpit area - flare-ups don’t happen here. I've made bacon on this, the whole nine yards. It's just beautiful. Well, by now you've probably heard of our new grill fund. We're not going to make a sales pitch - this is about showing off the different features and benefits! Come with me as I take you through Charbroil's top-of-the-line smokers for all sorts of cooking needs. That's actually different to share with you guys, you know if you thinking about that next new experience or grilling out in the backyard for this summer season. Stainless steel is nice but watch those lights! That appears quite funky and neat, doesn't it? The fact that it doesn't have a side burner is the only thing I don’t like about this smoker. Everything else has been taken care of by electronic ignition, which makes things easy and simple for me. You can do it like a hundred times. Let's go and make that hot. By the way, you bury your temperature needle; it says like 650 degrees in here. I came out here to preheat this guy for ya. I said to myself, "It's about time I checked my grill." So after waiting 12-13 minutes for the cover down and grilling past the 650 degrees. The difference between barbecuing and grilling is most evident when it comes to the cooking method. Barbequing uses low and slow methods, whereas with a grill you want high heat quick so that your food cooks quickly without burning itself or having any other nasty reactions which can happen in an improperly cooked meal due to too close proximity near hotter spots. So guys watch this. What you're not seeing here is any fire and that's, what's cool for me because what it does is the fire underneath hits a diffusing panel. And you know, when we got this call, we'll take it apart. Right? And then through that, it heats up the cast iron grill plate. We all know how delicious grilled food can be, but what about when you need to use your grill or smoker? With the Char-Broil Grill, it's easy. The TRU-Infrared ensures that there are no flare-ups while still getting those beautiful grill marks on every steak. And since this unit runs off propane gas instead of electricity as other indoor units do. Cleanup is a breeze too thanks in large part because everything gets conveniently burned right into embers at once so nothing hassles anyone else who might come across them during operation. That is one thing I didn't realize about this grill and what makes it so great. The true infrared technology means there are no hot spots or cold ones, which will make sure you don’t have to worry when cooking food. The grilled food will be cooked evenly and with this new technology, there is no need to worry about it being undercooked or overcooked. Every single square centimeter of your grill surface gets equally heated so you can enjoy mouth-watering meals every time. You'll never get in trouble with your wife again when you use these. The grill comes with pockets to keep all of your tools and cleaning supplies in one place, as well as a handy carrying handle. It's easy for you when things get messier because there is no more worrying about where everything went. Do you know what this is? This is butter on a grill. You guys, have you ever done this before?! It's like magic! There is no fire and it doesn't flare up. New innovations and technologies are a huge part of today's world. It is important to keep up with the latest trends so that you can stay ahead in this fast-paced industry. What a great way to enjoy your steak. This plate is so big that you can let it rest just like the steaks in front. Let me check this out for myself. The food is always tender and juicy when cooked using true infrared technology. This method has a much lower learning curve than traditional grilling fire, making it easier for beginners to use this technique with great results every time. The juice is totally sealed in and the flavor lasts long after you've eaten your fill. The steak's juicy, tenderness melts into every bite like a warm blanket on cold nights; it soothes away all worries while satisfying any cravings that may want to take control at times during the digestion process - but not before being left craving another big helping. Let's get a couple more slices in. Look at that steak, it is beautiful. I'm so glad we got this chance to enjoy dinner together and see what all of these fusses are about before our main event tonight. Man, I'm telling you. Grilling up some chicken and it's so juicy. Do you know how dry they can be sometimes? Not with this grill of mine - everything tastes amazing coming off the flames right into my mouth. I have been playing around for a couple of days now - everything I've cooked tastes like heaven on earth. Yeah, man. I said that if anyone was going to sound like a salesperson it would be me and you know what? That's not true at all! Where's a good spot to get burgers? Well, if you're looking for the most delicious and juicy meat on your burger then this place has what it takes. The TruGreen Red Cookie is a tool that takes the guesswork out of getting great grill flavor. It has been specially designed to help you get those char marks and deep, rich flavors we all love from cooking over an open flame without burning our food or ourselves - providing safety features such as automatic low heat shutoffs so everyone can enjoy themselves at home. The cast-iron pan is a go-to for those who want their food cooked evenly and with great results. The secret lies in its ability to withstand high temperatures, which allows the metal's pores to act like tiny ovens as they heat up your meal. Let's have a look then. It feels like we've been here forever and all these people must be starving. Like this isn't enough food for them, man. Grilling is the best way to cook food because it's so easy and quick. You don't even need any fire or flare-ups, just a little heat will do! The cleanup takes less than five minutes for each item cooked on your barbie grill - that means you can have an entire meal ready in no time at all without worrying too much about clean-up afterward. We've been without a gas grill for two years. I can't believe it's taken this long to get one, but now that we do have one and will be using it often - well let me tell you about the best part! The food tastes better than anything else out there because not only does everything come off sounding tender with an incredible flavor profile; but these grills also make smoking look easy which means no more hard smoked meat or undercooked fish fillets on your plate when they should clearly still be cooking yet? It sounds silly maybe... But who wants those anyway?? Stay safe everyone! My name's Mark Gill. This is Mark's on the Grill. Grilling: The Next Generation
I'll admit it. I'm a total porch jockey. Anyone who drives by my house on the weekend will likely see me sitting on my back deck working on my computer (like right now), smoking my pipe (like right now), or grilling (like yesterday). But my favorite of these is definitely grilling. And as I said, I participated in that favorite past time yesterday, but it was a whole new experience for me. Why? Because, for the first time in nearly a decade, I cooked on a new grill, and the experience was bittersweet. You see, the last grill I bought was eight years ago when my wife and I first moved back to Missouri from Virginia. Since then, my humble Kenmore gas grill has given me countless memories and mountains of delicious food. But nothing is meant to last forever, and grills are no exception. I knew I would have to say goodbye eventually, but I had no idea how much it would affect me.
It was a slow fade. First was the electric igniter about five years ago. No biggie. Matches did the job just fine. Then the heat shields crumbled. An easy replacement. Grill covers came and went, and I saw the creeping rust and increasingly unstable base as endearing character traits. Even it's inability to get over 400 degrees was just a minor nuisance. But when the warming rack literally fell in half, I knew it was time to say goodbye to my old friend. Thus began my search for a replacement. And gosh, did I have a hard time deciding.
As I said, I'd grilled exclusively on gas for the majority of my adult life, so it's what I was comfortable with. I knew the hot spots. I knew its strengths and weaknesses. And I loved the ease of use. But I was ready for a change. And so, I had two options in mind: a pellet grill or a dual gas/charcoal combo. I researched countless brands and variations online. I pestered my co-workers and patients for a solid week (bless their patience). And still I was no closer to deciding. It was like comparing apples to oranges. But in the end, a couple of factors led me to a decision.
Remember when I said the electronic igniter was the first thing to go out on my gas grill? Well, as much as I loved the diverse options of a pellet grill and the idea of getting that delicious smoked flavor with the push of a couple of buttons, pellet grills right now rely heavily on a slue of electronics. Igniters, thermostats, and augers, oh my. So much so that most have some form of motherboard to control their fancy gizmos. And even though I keep my grills covered religiously, they do sit outside all year. And I really hated the idea of having to replace essential components. For me, simpler is better.
The second factor was the wood pellet itself. It's the fuel that makes pellet grills possible. They pack all of the flavors of various wood chips for a fraction of the cost because they're essentially the sawdust byproduct of furniture manufacturers. They're waste that's put to good use, and they wind up being cheaper than charcoal and even gas. But the little secret that Traeger doesn't want you to know is this: you don't need a pellet grill to use pellets! Throw a handful on top of your charcoal and you get all of that smoky goodness without the fancy technology. But what's that you say? The mess and time that charcoal requires doesn't compare to the quick, easy use of pellet grills? Well, yes, that's true. But that's what ten-dollar smoker boxes are made for. Fill one up with pellets and throw it on top of your gas grill. Problem solved (okay, not completely. I'm aware that it's hard to replicate the raw smoking power of a pellet grill or a dedicated smoker, but my solution is a reasonable one).
So now that I knew I'd be happy with a duel-fuel grill, all that remained was to pick a brand and style. There were only a few that I found with the massive amount of cooking surface that I wanted, and the variations between them were negligible. In fact, as I compared, it seemed that most used a lot of the same parts. Like, the exact same parts. So much so that it got me wondering if they came from the same manufacturers. I couldn't find any proof online, but the fact remained: instead of comparing apples to oranges, I was now comparing apples to apples. And I was ready to stop comparing them and start grilling them (if you've never grilled apples, you're really missing out). So after work last Thursday, I felt like a Viking returning from a successful conquest when I brought home a $300 Char-Broil side-by-side with 1,000 square inches of cooking surface. And then I pulled it all out of the box on Friday and felt like a child staring at a 1,000-piece Lego set.
But I didn't let it intimidate me. I put on some tunes, cracked a cold one, and got to work, knowing all of my efforts would soon be worth it. And four hours later (after assembly and rubbing the whole interior down with margarine to "cure" everything), I stood back and admired the newest member of the Winch family. I mean, sure, it was already past dinnertime, which meant we had leftovers, but I was ready to break that bad boy in the next day. And the anticipation was more exciting than Christmas Eve.
Needless to say, my Saturday was a day to remember. One thousand inches of cooking surface. The left side was what I knew: clean, even propane. And the right was unexplored territory: raw, unbridled charcoal. And things got out of hand in a hurry. Waaaay too much charcoal and pellets. My chicken was burning within minutes, even with the vents closed and the charcoal basket as low as it would go. But I adjusted. I buckled down and harnessed the storm. And it was glorious. Every inch of that cast iron was filled with meats and veggies of the most heavenly varieties. And everything landed on the plates with better flavor and texture than I've been able to attain for years. And the critics agreed.
And I think that's the main reason why this has all been so important to me—my family. They always look forward to Daddy's grilling. It brings them joy, and they tell me as much. And for any husband or father, having a family's praise is the ultimate joy. It's what it's all about. All the hard work. The long hours and the time away from those loved ones. It's all worth it to see them appreciate you. And grilling has always been a surefire way to win over their hearts.
As I said, nothing is meant to last, and I know the grill I bought won't outperform a Weber or a Traeger. But when it does finally collapse into a pile of rust, maybe I'll want something different. Maybe the pellet grills will have more options and lower price tags. And until then, I'll honor the memory of my trusty Kenmore by creating new memories with my Char-Broil. So from my porch to yours, happy grilling.
