My thoughts are with all the people affected by the wildfires in Canada. Air quality is very bad in all areas of Canada and the northeast parts of the United States. Right now, 98 MILLION people on the East Coast are under air quality alerts from Canadian fires and, last night, NYC had the worst air quality in the world. Climate change makes wildfires more frequent and widespread. If we do nothing, this is our new reality.

it infuriates me how people from first world countries still have the audacity to not wear masks and go partying while the pandemic is still happening. some even attack asians as if that's what going to solve the problem. how selfish and stupid can you be? yeah, sure, y'all can recover after some months or a few years, but what about us? what about the people from 3rd world and developing countries? WE ARE FUCKING DYING. we cannot protect ourselves, we do not have enough masks, we do not have enough vaccines, we do not have enough healthcare facilities. it will take DECADES for us to recover from the pandemic's damage.

“Bourbon Street Under Quarantine” by Christy Lorio

I drove down Bourbon Street because I could. Bourbon Street is the French Quarter’s nightlife epicenter but, pre-Coronavirus, you can usually find tourists roaming the famed street in search of big ass beers, three-for-one drink specials and traditional New Orleans fare like gumbo and crawfish étouffée. Now, during quarantine, the street is empty save for a few curious pedestrians. Driving down an empty Bourbon Street feels like naughty, like you’re getting away with something.Even as New Orleans is slowly opening up, the French Quarter remains mostly shuttered. A smattering of shops and restaurants have reopened but bars that don’t serve food remain closed. With no people watching to distract, the architecture and details on Bourbon are on full display. A sleeve of go cups lines a window sill. Once hidden courtyards are now fully visible. The glow of neon lights bounce off empty frozen daiquiri machines. It all feels apocalyptic yet fascinating. It’s both wonderful and eerie at the same time, depending on when you go. It feels like you have the Quarter all to yourself, but it can feel empty without throngs of tourists, musicians and service industry workers embracing the thirteen blocks that comprise the Quarter.
