I decided to torture myself.
I don't know why.
Her voice is just awful. Dear Danneel, please get vocal lessons. Bring it down an octave or something because fucking yikes.
A follower sent me this and asked if I had seen it. I had not. It was, after all, a fan compilation of various interviews of Danneel, videos, whatever. And...
How the hell do people stan her?
She's vapid, uneducated. Ugh.
Anyway... points of interest.
Throughout the whole video: WHO CARES ABOUT THE DAMNED HAIR TWIRLING?!
0:54: During a photo shoot I guess at a premier. ZERO chemistry between Danneel and Jensen. Jensen is smiling politely and wanting to get away as fast as possible.
1:00: Yes Danneel. We can see that it's a hallway. GOD. How insipid. Even Jensen was like "OMG, what?"
1:54: Uh. Danneel, honey, why would anyone else play Dean Winchester besides Jensen Ackles? He did not like that one bit.
4:14: Uh huh. If Jensen had witnessed some of it, why was nothing done then? I'm super-dubious about this claim. I really am. And how could he have witnessed it when he was likely filming Supernatural during that? Hmm.
5:55: Yeahhh.... had the family, but the steady career? Hahaha. Nope.
6:35: Danneel, honey, neither do you. If you expect me to believe you do any of the cleaning, I'm gonna call you a liar. You do nothing. Also, Jensen looked annoyed at the idea of so many bathrooms.
6:43: You are also not nice. I came across some old rumors about you, honey. You were awful, vicious, and the reason you got fired from One Tree Hill was because of your *whispers* drug habits.
6:55: WHAT IS SHE WEARING?!
7:35: The ever-changing face, proving that she lies about her plastic surgery. (Supposedly she claims she doesn't that many and I died laughing.) Also: "beautiful men with big egos"--bullshit, honey. You're the one who has the massive ego with zero to back it up. Plus she sounds as insincere as fuck.
8:22: "It's good. I love him. He's great." Insincere.
8:33: I'm cringing on Jensen's behalf. "Where the magic happens". And bypassed Jensen's wishes and insisted it not be cut--and guess what? It wasn't cut. As if they've shared a bed in years.
8:44: Ohhhh my gods. The brewery interview. Pay attention to Jensen's face as the interviewer talks about working together, living together--Jensen's done. And actually says "yes" to being tired of being with her. Danneel looked pissed. Ah honey...
11:43: Uh huh. The ring, huh? Gold digger.
12:04: The so-called flight anxiety. Whatever, Danneel. If you're able to fly without supposed help or therapy...? (No, getting drunk is not legitimate help.) You fly a lot, more than most "average" people. You take your kids. You go to conventions. You supposedly saw your husband a lot when he was filming Supernatural. You flew for your tidbits of roles. Then you're fine.
14:34: "Jensen's first time being in here." For the kitchen? Oh please! As if he never went in for a snack, beer, or anything. SHUT UP, DANNEEL.
14:38: "Nothing can happen to me, not for me, but for my kids." Excuse me, I need to shake some sense into her. Babe, honey, you do jackshit for your kids. They'll be fine.
Also that's not how panic attacks work. You literally aren't able to talk yourself out of it. Please stop.
15:36: "We're having another baby." That look your husband gave you? A deserved death glare because you knew he wouldn't like it. Stop emotionally torturing him, god!
16:41: I love that Jensen called her out on her lie about her name. I don't think she liked that either.
17:24: Ah. The insult about him smelling bad. God, can't she ever say anything nice about him? See the way he took a deep breath, braced himself? That's not a normal reaction to a "joke".
17:43: How can he not know women put perfume on their wrists and elsewhere? Translation: he never sees Danneel do it. Because they don't share a bedroom after all.
18:11: HOW CAN HE NOT KNOW THAT CHAIR MOVES?! Did the man not live there at all?!
19:34: Oh god. The doll. Honestly, Jensen should dump it. Stop torturing him with it! It's not funny!
19:53: Couldn't let him have the closet joy, huh? Bitch.
20:18: No. You're not nice. Nope. Not at all.
God. My eardrums. I'm crying now.
Danneel, babe, vocal coach. Please!

Doe Eyes || CH3 - Wait
See CH1 for warnings! || Chapter list || Masterlist
Photo reference for how I imagine Brandy (your bestie):
The Governor had decided to start training every able bodied person over the age of thirteen for combat. Andrea had fought for a ceasefire, for some kind of 'live and let live' agreement, but the Governor was hellbent on retaliation and revenge. You didn't get it. A few of the Woodbury dwellers had fallen, but there was a sort of rage behind his good eye that told you that this was much deeper than that. Otherwise, the dude was just a psycho. Either way he had gone from leading everyone in a safe community to leading his community to war. A needless war, it seemed.
Then Andrea left. The Governor seemed oddly content with it, given their previous 'arrangement'. It led you to believe he probably sent someone after her, too. The same way he sent you and Merle after Michonne. Merle, who, had also left with his brother, who you'd later learned was actually his brother. At least he got what he was searching for with all that violence, you guessed.
Then Sasha, Tyreese, and a guy named Alan and his son showed up. They negotiated for safety and shelter, offering their hand in the battle in exchange for such. You had managed to keep quiet, following along with whatever whacky plans the Governor spelled out. You were tasked with assisting in training people on basic gun management. You hated it, it made you sick to show teenagers and regular people how to kill. They were told it was to defend themselves but you knew better than that. Brandy was there too. She learned how to shoot before, but only BB guns. She had decent aim, but she was no killer. None of these people were.
When you were on guard one night, Andrea rolled up in a car. You guys let her in, but you didn't see her again after that. You wondered if she was turned out on her own, but you knew better. By then the Governor had strayed further and further from the man who had welcomed you there and showed his true self. There was no telling what he was capable of.
"I still think we should go." You told Brandy, sitting at her table that night for dinner. It wasn't much, supplies had been scarce since all the efforts were focused on war instead of supply runs.
"I can't leave these people, (y/n)." She sighed. "They need me. We're a community."
"I won't leave you. But I don't think it's safe to stay. I think he's leading us all to our deaths." You shook your head.
"Whatever it is, we can get through it. As a community. You heard Andrea. One day the history books will talk about Woodbury. Even if part of our story includes mutiny."
"Mutiny." You scoffed. "What, we overthrow him?"
"If we need to." She nodded.
"Please." You waved her off. "These people are too loyal. He's like their prophet or something."
"No, these people are afraid, and they look tot he man who provides for him." She corrected. "They don't have anyone else to look to. We give them someone better, someone stronger, someone more convincing, they'll follow that person instead."
"Oh, you mean like you? Like me? Like Mr. Farris?" You rolled your eyes. "That's a bigger job than we're up for, Brandy. Our best bet is to go. Maybe others will follow. They were ready to leave when the barrier was breached, before Andrea gave her inaugural speech."
"Yeah, maybe. But how would we keep them all safe out there?" She asked, rubbing her temples.
"Not like we're doing much of that in here." You mumbled.
"Look, the Governor's system works. How was he supposed to know there's be a group of rogue prisoners out there?" She argued.
"You still don't get it, Brandy. They weren't just rogue prisoners. They were here to get their people that Merle kidnapped and beat! And the Governor let him! He stripped that girl's shirt off and did whatever with her!" You snapped. She just stared back at you, stunned. You let go of a breath and ran your hands over your face. "Look," you began, more calmly. "I'm telling you. I've seen some shit. All on his orders. He's not a good man. It's an act."
----
"What would your daughter think? About what you are?"
"She'd be afraid of me. If I'd been like this from the start, she'd be alive today."
The conversation played in your mind. Milton and the Governor. You watched him beat his little scientist, then watched as he tried to force him to kill Andrea. You were sick to your stomach. This wasn't right, not any of it. How could you have let your loyalty to Brandy keep you here, working as one of his henchmen? Milton refused. In retaliation, the Governor stabbed him and left him to turn, and then he'd tear Andrea apart.
"In this world, you kill or you die."
That was hours ago, and like the obedient little soldier you were, you left them there too. Andrea was on her own. You were just glad it wasn't Brandy. Now, you were preparing for war, a real war. You were loading trucks, counting ammo, fueling gas tanks, whatever needed to be done. Anything to numb your mind and keep the images of what was happening to Andrea at bay. You should have helped her, but you didn't. It wasn't like you to put someone's life before your own. You were a fighter, not a martyr. Although, the way things were headed, being martyred was probably in your near future.
"Let's roll!" He shouted as everyone piled into vehicles and readied themselves for a fight.
"Governor." You spoke up. "I'd like to stay and look after the children we're leaving here. With every able bodied adult out there fighting, they're a defenseless buffet."
He looked at you, an unsettling sort of calmness in his eye.
"Us too." Tyreese spoke up for himself and Sasha.
"And the elderly, I've always cared for them." Brandy added. He looked around between the four of you, before he nodded. He handed a weapon to Tyreese. You already had one.
"Thank you." He finally said, before they all fired the engines and left.
You exchanged glances with the other three, before you all spread out. Sasha and Tyreese took watch over the gates. You patrolled the street. Brandy cared for the children and the elderly inside the strongest building with the most supplies. All that was left to o was wait.
By nightfall the troops still hadn't made it back, but some others did. Karen and the ones who the Governor had gone to attack. Karen said they saved her, after the Governor gunned down everyone that went with him.
"We were coming to finish this. Until we saw what the Governor did." A man told Tyreese.
"He killed them?" Tyreese gasped.
"No." Brandy shook her head. "That's insane."
"He did." The man confirmed. Karen nodded. Brandy wept. Those were her friends, her people. The very reason she didn't run with you when she had the chance.
You all went to find Andrea. She was alive, but not for long. Milton had turned. She was a badass, so she too him down, but not without her own loss. She was bitten. Your stomach turned over and over as you watched them say their goodbyes.
"I can do it myself." She said.
"No." Michonne cried.
"Oh, I have to. While I still can. Please. I know how the safety works." She argued. That last part was some kind of inside joke, you could tell.
"I'm not going anywhere." Michonne protested.
Andrea shook her head. "I tried." She said.
"Yeah," The leader agreed. "You did.... You did."
With that, all of you except for Michonne filed out of the room where she was held. You waited, until that dreadful sound rang out. Andrea ended it. Just like she said she would. Like she said she had to, while she still could.
By dawn you had loaded the surviving members of Woodbury unto a bus and their leader, who you'd come to know as Rick, led you all to safety at the prison and welcomed you with pen arms. You protested at first, but it was what Brandy wanted, and you'd go, because she was your only friend.

Summarizing the final part of Chapter 2.5. Also the katakana for the family names are killing me, I can't figure out a good transliteration for them, so I'm going with what seems to be the consensus of Grosvenor and Sardeis.
….This got really long, sorry! orz
We begin with Yuhan in a cell, stirring from unconsciousness. A guard is bringing him food and comments about how different the man in front of him is, compared to all the rumors he heard about Yuhan before. Where is the prodigy that rose up in the ranks to become Fubuki's right hand man? Yuhan says nothing. Well, the guard reasons, that's what happens to someone when their hometown has been burned to the ground and their family and everyone they know killed. How awful, says the guard. But if Yuhan holds any hate in his heart for that, then the person he should hate the most is himself. After all, that's just what happens to fools that cross Fubuki.
Only when the guard leaves does Yuhan start to cry. He calls out to his father, his mother, everyone from his hometown. He apologizes again and again, believing that it's his fault that they died.
Enter Fubuki. "Are you crying?" Fubuki asks. "Rare to see you cry." And when Yuhan glares at him, he asks what Yuhan thinks he's doing, to look at him with such an expression. He won't allow Yuhan to look at his master with such impudence. Then he kicks Yuhan. He says that it is such a shame. After he's showed such favor to Yuhan, for Yuhan to turn around and betray him…
We flashback to the day after Haures has been judged as innocent. Fubuki is supposed to be away, so Yuhan decides to sneak around the Sardeis manor. He discovers a secret door with a staircase leading towards the basement.
Beneath the staircase, Yuhan finds a room full of records. He discovers records kept by the previous head of the Sardeis, which confirms that this is where the Sardeis family keep their important documents. If he wants to find out what Fubuki is planning, this is where he's going to get that information.
Yuhan's loyalty to Fubuki had been unquestionable. He grew up in poverty, along with most of his home town, with no opportunities to speak of. But when Fubuki became head of the Sardeis family, that changed. Before, only high ranking people could be soldiers. But when Fubuki took over, he changed that. Age, social status, it didn't matter. So Yuhan decided at the age of 9 to become a soldier to be able to save his hometown, and after 3 hard years of training and studying, he made it. He became a soldier in the service of Fubuki, and he decided that he would do anything for him.
But as of late, his loyalty has been wavering. Fubuki's fixation on returning the Sardeis family to their "rightful place" as the top of the world was growing worrying. It all culminated in his attempt to assassinate the butlers (the events of chapter 2). Fubuki said that the end of the butlers would lead to a better world, a world where the common people could live safely. But Yuhan's faith was shaken. He knew that Fubuki was the kind of person who would do anything to achieve his goals, so he decided to do some digging to find out what Fubuki was really planning, and if necessary, put a stop to it.
Back in the middle of searching, Yuhan stumbles upon a page. It seems very very old, written over 200 years ago. And whatever is written on it causes Yuhan to react with shock--but then, footsteps approach.
And again, it's Fubuki. He had only pretended to leave, knowing that Yuhan was feeling conflicted as of late. This was a trap, to see if Yuhan would try something. And Yuhan fell for the trap hook, line, and sinker. "To think that a dog would bite the hand that feeds it," says Fubuki. "Such a terrible feeling."
We're back now in the present. Fubuki says that if Yuhan had just minded his own business, this wouldn't be happening now. He wouldn't be imprisoned. His hometown wouldn't be destroyed. His family and everyone he knew would still be alive.
Yuhan asks why. If Fubuki was only concerned about Yuhan finding out his secret, why did he kill everyone else? They were all innocent, they had nothing to do with Yuhan's actions. And Fubuki says, well, he's not about to take a traitor at his word. He doesn't know how long Yuhan has known or suspected something; he doesn't know whether Yuhan had told someone or not. And better to be safe than sorry. If there is even the slightest chance that Yuhan had told someone he knows, then better to just eliminate everyone to ensure his secret won't get out.
Yuhan glares at Fubuki again. And Fubuki sighs. "What did I tell you about looking at me like that?" he asks. He kicks Yuhan again, and we fade to black… but only for a few minutes.
When we return, Yuhan is coughing and sputtering on the ground, gasping for breath. Fubuki says that he'll stop for now. Any more and Yuhan might die. Yuhan says to do it, asks Fubuki to kill him. And Fubuki says no. He has no intention of allowing Yuhan to die here. He'll only kill Yuhan when he's ready to make a proper example of him, to show everyone what happens when you try to go against him.
Fubuki asks if Yuhan is suffering. Of course he is. Everyone he knows killed, his home destroyed, his execution imminent. There's no way anyone could suffer more. And that's exactly why Yuhan will make a good example. Until the day of his execution, he won't let Yuhan die. He tells the guards to force feed Yuhan if necessary to keep him from starving himself to death, then leaves. And Yuhan just cries, pleading for everything to be over.
We go back to the Devil's Palace. Berrien has just revealed to everyone that he wants Yuhan to be their next butler, and Muu asks in shock what he means when he said that Yuhan was going to be executed. Berrien doesn't know the details himself, it's all hearsay, but he says that he heard that Yuhan rebelled against the Sardeis family. Lucas can't imagine why he would, but Bastien comes into the conversation to say that he knows Yuhan has had doubts about the Sardeis family.
Yuhan had actually told Bastien about his plans to look into what the Sardeis family is planning, around the time of the expedition to attack Seraphim. Yuhan asked to speak to Bastien privately, and warned him to be careful, because the Sardeis family might attempt to attack the butlers again. And he told Bastien everything he knew about what Fubuki was planning, about Fubuki's plans to "welcome the end of the age of the devil butlers". Bastien asks why Yuhan is telling him this--isn't Yuhan a soldier of the Sardeis family? If he got discovered revealing these plans…
Yuhan answers: because his wish is for a world where everyone can live peacefully. And to achieve that world, he believes that they will need the help of the butlers to accomplish it. The butlers have protected the world for thousands of years. Without the butlers, humanity would surely face destruction in the future. While he may be a soldier of the Sardeis family, he is the butlers' ally. He may not be able to do a lot, but if it's for the sake of a peaceful world, he will do anything that is needed.
Back in the present. Muu wonders whether they can really trust Yuhan? After all, they haven't exactly had the best track record when it comes to the Sardeis family. But Bastien says, this current situation is all the proof they need. Yuhan is willing to put his life on the line to protect the butlers.
Berrien says that he wants to save Yuhan. If the world were to lose a man with such a strong sense of will and justice, it would be a terrible loss. Bastien agrees. Lucas doesn't disagree, but he does point out that saving Yuhan is going to be extremely complicated. Unlike the time when they went to save Haures from his execution, they can't let a large fight break out. Why? Because that could very well lead to a war between the Grosvenor and Sardeis families.
First of all, Yuhan is in the service of the Sardeis family, and his sentence was decided by the Sardeis head. Technically, it is not the butlers' place to meddle. Furthermore, Yuhan is surely being kept under guard. If they were to fight, and the guards were injured in that battle, the Sardeis family might decide to retaliate against the harm caused to their people. Berrien says that it's all true, and he's been wracking his brain to come up with a way to save Yuhan without a fight. And he did think of one:
To save Yuhan after he's been executed.
Confusion abounds. Save him after? But won't he be dead? No, says Bastien. Because the way that the Sardeis family executes people is unique. There is a special execution method reserved for traitors, that's been tradition for a long time. It's called the Trial of Tigers (not an exact translation, I made it sound a bit more flowing/natural in English). It involves leaving the person to be executed in a bamboo forest populated with feral tigers, who have been trained to enjoy eating human flesh. According to the stories, not even bones will be left when the tigers are done. Then, the ripped and bloody clothes of the executed person will be displayd in the city. It's an execution method that is meant to set an example for anyone else thinking of turning traitor.
So, Berrien's plan is to save Yuhan when he's been left in the forest. They'll hide in the forest, save Yuhan, and escape. Bastien says that he'll go alone, but Berrien says no, he'll go as well. He can't let Bastien be the one left with the burden of asking Yuhan to become a butler. The master says that they will go too. Of course everyone protests, but they point out that they can't use their powers if the master isn't there, right? If they end up having to fight the tigers, it's best to have them along. No one can argue against that. And if the master is going, then Lucas will go as well. The more people to protect the master, the better, right? They've got no time to lose, so they'll leave as soon as possible to save Yuhan.
Time passes, and we are at the bamboo forest. Fubuki asks Yuhan if he has any last words. And Yuhan says, "I will never forgive you."
"Defiant to the end," says Fubuki. "Let's see how long you can keep that up." He reads out Yuhan's alleged crimes (stealing confidential information in order to start a rebellion) and announces his sentence: the Trial of Tigers. Then he and the guards ride off, leaving Yuhan alone. Yuhan says he needs to leave, and struggles away… then we hear a growl. As Yuhan turns to run, more growls sound out from that direction, and again, and again--he's surrounded. As he curses that his life will end like this: his hometown lost forever, unable to stand against Fubuki, unable to keep his promise to Bastien to fight together with him someday…
"Raise your head, Yuhan! Never look away from the enemy!"
Bastien's voice calls out through the forest. Shocked, Yuhan looks up to see Bastien running towards him, assuring him that everything will be okay. Berrien and Lucas then also fly into formation, ready to face off against the tigers. Yuhan asks why they're here, and of course, they're here to save him. Berrien will lead Yuhan and the master to a safe spot, while Lucas and Bastien will protect them. The master grants Bastien and Lucas their powers. The form of an elderly lion with white fur appears behind Lucas, his contracted demon Foras. Now, says Lucas, time to see which is stronger, a lion or tiger.
Hey, Bastien says. Wasn't Lucas the one who said that they shouldn't injure the tigers? They don't want to leave any evidence of their presence, so no fighting. Oh, of course not, of course Lucas won't go against the plan. He just wanted to say something cool in front of the master. After a bit more banter, they get ready to fend off the tigers as they make their escape.
Running through the forest, everyone is attacked by the tigers over and over, but Lucas and Bastien are able to defend against the attacks. They're almost at their designated safe place, and when they reach it they can proceed with their plan to slip out of the forest. Yuhan asks why they're going to all that trouble for him, and Berrien answers: because Yuhan isn't the kind of man who should die like this. Because with his courage and his will, he can help to save the world.
Yuhan says, he's just a man. He can't save the world, he can't save anything. But, says the master, if he was to become a butler… They'll explain the details later. But they want Yuhan to be a butler and join them. Berrien doesn't want to force Yuhan one way or the other. If Yuhan becomes a butler, it should be by his own choice, but he should know the risks. He isn't just risking his life, but he will no longer be able to walk the path of a normal person ever again.
Yuhan barely hesitates. He'll join them. He wants to have the power to be able to fight for a better world.
They're nearly out of the forest. There's just one last thing to do: they'll fake Yuhan's death in order to make it look like he was eaten by tigers, so no one will be looking for him. So he removes his coat and leaves it on the ground, but it's not enough. Yuhan borrows Bastien's sword to cut his own arm, faking a blood splatter to complete the scene.
And the escape goes off without a hitch.
A few days pass. Everyone's back at the mansion. We begin with Lucas treating Yuhan's wounds, noting that they're well on their way to healing and Yuhan should be back in top form in no time. Yuhan had quickly lost consciousness after their escape and was asleep for two days because of sleep deprivation, giving everyone a big scare as they thought he had succumbed to his injuries. The master had been visiting Yuhan every day, worried. But he's okay now!
Berrien arrives, bringing Teddy and Hanamaru with him. He wanted to introduce Yuhan to them, as they'll all be roommates from now on. And after a quick round of introductions, Berrien gets to the point: before they can truly become butlers, they need to go through the ceremony of forming a contract with a demon. Before they go through with it, Berrien wants to make sure everyone is still on board. The process of forming a contract is very dangerous, they may even lose their life. Do they still intend to become a butler, knowing this?
No hesitation from any of them. All of them agree.
So, Berrien thanks them, and proceeds to the next step. He hands all of them black blindfolds. The location where the ceremony is going to take place is top secret, and kept even from the people taking part in the ceremony itself. Berrien says that they will be leaving the mansion for a bit for this ceremony, and while Berrien will return in a few days, the other three will be gone for about 3 months.
Four months pass, it is now winter. Haures calls the master to the back garden to show them something: a building that looks like a house. This is the villa of the Devil's Palace, where the three new butlers will be staying when they return. Haures built it, with help from a craftsman he knows, as well as the other butlers--Boschi designed the interior, of course.
They hear hoofbeats approaching: but there aren't any guests who would really approach the mansion. So, does that mean that the three are back? The master is eager to greet them, and Haures goes to tell the other butlers. Everyone gathers at the entrance hall, and the three of them are indeed back! Their contracts were made with no issue, and though they did take a month longer than normal, everything is fine. They also appear to have gotten quite close; when Teddy notices that Hanamaru is missing from the group, Yuhan just sighs and says that Hanamaru probably snuck back into the carriage to nap. Quick glimpse of their dynamic is probably like Yuhan and Hanamaru bicker a lot (though it's mostly Yuhan initiating and being a little passive-aggressive, Hanamaru just kinda goes with it and faces the passive-aggressiveness with completely blunt honesty which is pretty funny. Teddy is stuck in the middle being an earnest and bright kid trying to stop his friends from fighting--Yuhan says with a smile on his face that doesn't reach his eyes that they're not fighting, they're just having a difference of opinion)
We get more cute and funny scenes of everyone getting along as we officially welcome our three new butlers. The next day, the new trio show up to present themselves to the master. They want them to be the first person to see them in their new uniforms. And aside from their new uniforms, Yuhan has also decided to go with a change of hairstyle. Shinonome Yuhan is supposed to be dead after all, so a different hairstyle helps to hide his identity a little bit better. Plus, he feels like he can get a new start with a change of appearance.
Lono also shows up, saying he wants to hold a party later. The butlers of this mansion are like family, they live together, they fight together. And to help everyone get closer to the three new butlers, Lono wants to have a party to celebrate them. Of course the master agrees, and Lono leaves, excited as he thinks about what dishes he'll make. Once Lono is gone, Yuhan asks whether it's really okay for a party to welcome the three of them to be held. After all, they're butlers, and the master is their master. Is this kind of relationship really okay between master and servant? Yuhan is pensive; this is just very different from the environment that he is used to. The master answers that they don't really care about things like that. They just want everyone to be happy.
At the party we have some lighthearted stuff. Teddy wonders why Lono calls him Teddy-san, even though Teddy is Lono's junior as a butler. But Lono says eh, he just does that with the people who are older than him. Even though butlers stop aging, Teddy is 25 and he's 22, so he'll use -san with Teddy. Stuff like that. Hanamaru also got into the wine so that's also fun. And people just keep talking, get to know each other better.
Teddy finds out that Haures is over 300 years old, and the conversation transitions to the unaging nature of the butlers. None of Haures, Boschi, or Fennesz remember their exact age anymore. Haures and Fennesz became butlers on the same day, Boschi was soon after that. They were all 28 years old when that happened so they're pretty much the same age. Then the conversation turns towards birthdays--and it's revealed that the butlers don't really celebrate their birthdays. In fact, Haures and Fennesz say that they haven't celebrated a single birthday ever since they became butlers.
The master says that they want to celebrate everyone's birthday. Berrien overhears, and he reveals that there is a reason they don't celebrate birthdays: it's to keep the balance between the butlers. Because they all come from different times, different paths of life and different circumstances, there are quite a few butlers who don't know their own birthdays for some reason or another. If you celebrated only the birthdays of those who knew them, it wouldn't be very fair to the rest. But if the master does want to celebrate everyone's birthdays, then Berrien suggests to make it the day that they became butlers. A birthday is meant to mark the beginning of a new life, after all, and the butlers really have started a new life once they make a contract with a demon. The three new butlers still remember their own birthdays so they don't have to change anything, they can just keep their own birthdays. Muu sets his birthday as the day that the master arrived at the mansion.
Berrien gathers everyone to announce the birthdays, and that they're going to celebrate them every year from now on. In particular, Lato and Lono note that this would be the first time they get to celebrate a birthday. Everyone looks pleased, and the master thinks that they're going to make sure that everyone stays happy, and will be sure that celebrate everyone's birthdays dearly from now on.

#you raise a good point but his training didn't cover this#I feel he doesn't really know what to do with himself when it comes to *that* side of protecting the family#it's very sad actually from @dracolizardlars
!!! Joking aside, I absolutely agree with this interpretation as the reason underpinning why book one played out the way it did with Angeline being bed-ridden with psychosis while Butler helped Artemis on the search for the People.
At the end of the day, it is unacceptable as an adult to decide to allow someone to functionally mentally rot away in the attic while you allow their child to spend the remnants of the family fortune (they paid a lot of money to Nguyen, the contact in Vietnam with information about the People, in book 1 that could have been used for like, anything else). No normal adult would do that. But I think that you could read a lot of dysfunction and abnormality into Butler's character that is able to contextualize that behavior, and I think contextualizing is necessary.
And again, like, the events of book 1 exist in a state of narrative utility, where we're not supposed to process Angeline's breakdown or Butler having to stand in as a guardian to Artemis as we would do so when hearing the events recalled back to us as something in real life. Artemis not having parents in the first book is the price of entry for him to have those adventures as a child, so you can't assign the same real-world significance, which I always acknowledge before doing my silly little analyses, lol.
That said:
"On his tenth birthday, Butler was sent to Madame Ko's Personal Protection Academy, as was the tradition for male Butler children, and spent six months of each year learning all the necessities needed for a bodyguard to protect the latest member of the Fowl family, and the other six guarding a low-risk principal. Butler studied in Switzerland and Israel and graduated from the academy at the record age of eighteen, earning himself the right to have the blue diamond tattoo on his shoulder."
From: Artemis Fowl, book 1
Ten years old!!!
Everything about Butler points to experiences that should have hardened him to the world and forced him into constant survival mode. But his character is defined by how much he just wants to *live*. His favorite books are trashy romance novels, he listens to U2, his favorite movie is 'Some Like it Hot' with Marilyn Monroe, and he is just so consistently empathetic. When Artemis disappears, he goes to Duncade, retiring to a cottage in a desire to make the world just *pause* for once.
And I get that A Lot of the elements to Butler's character that are 'soft' are meant to be humorous in a 'look at this man who is the Platonic ideal of masculinity who also reads romance novels' way — but a lot of the softness that Colfer allows him feels genuine. Meant to be taken seriously.
And I really, really like that!
I think the reason that I as a child thought he was the 'healthy adult' of the series is that he's a perfect match for Juliet and Artemis — Butler carries his past as a sorely mistreated child within him, and although he's just as awkward as Artemis is in social situations because of this, Butler's journey to adulthood was just so tempered by kindness and the desire to choose softness over being brusque.
What kind of adult would believe their 12-year-old charge had discovered magic other than one who wants to, on a very fundamental level, believe the universe has something *special* within it to make up for the senseless misfortune he's stumbled through his life trapped within?
In Butler, Artemis is presented with a future in which kindness is a choice & Juliet is presented with the potential for small, radical rejections of her family name; in Artemis and Juliet, Butler is presented with the opportunity to be the unwavering protector that shields from a family legacy determined to undermine one's agency that he never had, he is given an opportunity to heal through administering preventative care to the wounds of the Fowl and Butler name.
I just remembered the moment in TAC where Butler is psyching himself up to call Angeline to let her know that Artemis has had a mental breakdown due to [insert Colfer's little fantasy mental illness here], and there's this like... darkly comedic quality to the scene on a meta-level. Because MAN. C'mon :| Mr. Domovoi "hey after Angeline had that breakdown when we thought Artemis Senior was dead, were there... other things we could have done outside of calling that one therapist who told us she'd probably just 'sleep [that] off'... Ope-! Haha oh looks like fairy magic healed that mental illness, not to worry :) Seems like we should be able to go another year without re-upping our crisis training certification!" Butler.
Butler... I am so so sorry my love. But this is one of those rare moments where I do have to admit you boned things ROYALLY in not addressing the frankly hilarious blind spot you have vis à vis the Specific and Unique Starinov Family Strain of Mental Illness

Endversetober Day 23: Shelter
(explanation post) (compilation post)
When Michael opened his eyes again, everything still hurt.
He couldn't be in Purgatory, though. As far as he knew, there were no huts in Purgatory, and no warming fires next to semi-comfortable beds.
“Morning, sleeping beauty,” a man said from beside him.
It would have made Michael jump and ready a weapon if he'd been able to move that much. Instead, he just flinched, then groaned in pain.
“Yeah, I thought you'd say that. Sorry, but we're low on painkiller.” The man peered down at him from his chair.
With difficulty, Michael moved his – Adam's – head, and saw a Torah in the man's lap.
Where are we? Adam suddenly asked, and Michael was embarrassed by how relieved he was to hear his voice.
“I don't-” Michael closed the vessel's mouth, then said to Adam: I don't know.
“You don't?” the man asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I don't know where I am,” Michael admitted out loud. “Or who you are. Did you save u- I mean, me?”
It was difficult to speak, but Michael was used to not showing pain, or weakness. He could make do.
“Do you remember a few days ago,” the man said instead of an answer, “when you killed a bunch of Croats? You saved a woman and a kid.”
Michael did remember, vaguely. There had been a few more instances like it, though he hadn't always bothered to protect the uninfected humans. Not when annihilation had been at the top of his agenda.
“Their names are Linda and Kevin. Did you know that?”
“They may have mentioned it. Are you a friend of theirs?”
The man didn't look like he was related to them, though looks could of course be deceiving. Perhaps he was the father of the child.
“I'm Rufus,” the man said, as if that explained anything. “Lin said you were some kind of bigger than life type – a well-meaning monster or something. You just look like a man to me, though.”
Michael opened his mouth to argue, then closed it again. “I suppose I am something like a man, at this point,” he finally said. “I'm not who, or what, I used to be.”
Rufus scoffed. “Well, tough shit. None of us is.”
“Why did you save...” Michael hesitated, then decided that they already knew he wasn't fully human. “...us?”
“'Us'? There more than one in there?” Rufus raised an eyebrow.
“Yes. I can't say I particularly appreciate having to accept help, but thank you for saving Adam.”
“Well, you can tell us all about who and how many you are later,” Rufus said, just as someone entered through the door.
“Is he awake?! Holy shit!” The kid from a few days ago – Kevin – hastened towards the bed. “Are you okay?”
“This body is very impaired right now,” Michael told him.
“O...kay?”
“Kev, how about you go tell your mom that he's awake. I'm sure she'll want to know,” Rufus told him, and he nodded, immediately scampering off. Rufus sighed. “He's a good kid. Actually, he's the reason we found you. He had some kind of vision about a zombie horde being in that spot, so we went to kill 'em. Found all those fuckers dead and you lying there, instead.”
“He has visions?” Michael asked in confusion. That would make him a prophet, but the role should have been filled by Chuck Shurley. Or perhaps he was psychic...
“Seems to be a trend for people in this camp. There was this other guy who had visions... I still don't know if I believe in that stuff, but Kevin's visions started the day after Chuck died.”
Dead, then. Raphael must have failed in their duty.
Possibly, they hadn't even felt the threat to the prophet, or had at least been powerless to stop it.
“I can't help him with those,” Michael said.
Rufus just scoffed again. “I didn't ask you to. Honestly, all I want from you right now is to stay in bed. We can talk about everything else later... Adam, was it?”
“Michael. Adam is...” Michael shook his head. “It's complicated.”
Not really, Adam said.
Well I would have to start with the fact that angels exist. And then I would have to explain why we didn't stop this, Michael countered.
Oh, so it's complicated for you. Gotcha.
Michael sighed.
“I think we should sleep now,” he said aloud. “This body is very weak.”
“Sure.” Rufus stood up from his chair and started walking towards the door. He stopped before stepping outside though. “You know, any regular human would have been dead before we got them to the camp.”
Michael hummed in acknowledgement. There wasn't much angel left in him, but... just a speck, a spark, was still there.
Maybe it would rekindle, and his strength would return.
Or maybe not.
They would have to wait and see. And for now, apparently, sleep.

Now All I See Is Color - chapter 16: nasty 🤢
♡ masterlist ♡ 《 previous | next 》
In a world where soulmates exist, it's uncommon for most people to find theirs. A lot of them going their whole lives never experiencing the world in color because they've never met their soulmate. But that all changes for y/n when she becomes MSBY Jackals player, Miya Atsumu's assistant. They're about to experience the world in color together. But what does that mean for y/n when both her and Atsumu are in committed relationships?
Atsumu finds himself in his car, beside him his girlfriend of almost two years, who he hasn't seen in three months. He should feel happy, ecstatic even, but he doesn't feel any of that. Instead, he finds himself wishing for someone else to be sitting in that passenger seat next to him.
"Aren't you excited to see me baby?" A voice snaps him back to reality. "Of course am excited to see ya baby. Am just really surprised, am still recovering from it." He replies, feeling guilty for lying to her. She places a hand on his cheek, forcing him to look at her. He realizes it's the first time he's gotten to look at her properly since being able to see colors and he notices one thing about his girlfriend. Her eyes. Her eyes don't mesmerize him the way yours does. Was that normal?
"We better get going. I'm excited to meet this assistant of yours." At the mention of you, he immediately perks up, already backing out of the parking space, he fails to notice the quick flash of anger on the blonde girl's face, rather he was focused on getting to the karaoke bar where everyone else agreed to meet and getting to see you.
"I texted her, she's coming out, she's excited to meet ya babe." He glances over at her while she finishes reapplying her lipstick, all she does is nod her head. Atsumu notices the door open and sees you looking around the parking lot before your eyes land on his car and then on him. You give a quick wave before making your way over. "Come on babe, let's say hi." He's already getting out of the car, eager to greet you.
You watch as Atsumu gets out of the car and then notice the passenger side door open. You can't help but think about how his girlfriend is so pretty, definitely worthy of being with Atsumu. But why does that make your heart ache? "So you're his assistant?" Her tone is friendly but there's something about the way she says it that feels a little off.
You notice Atsumu shoot you an apologetic look. "Yeah I am. And you must be his girlfriend. It's nice to meet you. I'm l/n f/n." You put your hand out for her to shake but she just brushes it off. "Babe. I'm cold, can we go inside now?" She says while clinging on to his arm. You don't want to believe the rumors, wanting to give her the benefit of the doubt, but her attitude and actions right now are making that real hard.
"Whatever ya want babe." You can't help but wonder why Atsumu is with her if this is how she is. You follow the couple as they walk inside. You can hear your group before even reaching the private room. Weren't the rooms supposed to be soundproof? Your question is answered when you find Hinata wedged between the door, a beer in one hand and a microphone in the other. You shoot a look at Sakusa and he just shrugs.
The orange haired male finally notices the three of you. "Y/n! You're baaackkkk! Oh look! Tsum-Tsummmm andddd Mikaaa tooo!" You can't help but roll your eyes. Sakusa warned you Hinata was a lightweight but you weren't expecting this light, he only had two beers the last time you checked. Before you can say anything Suna is already helping the male up, it's like he could read your mind. "Sorry we're late." Atsumu says as they settle into the seats left open for them.
"You didn't have to rush on our account." You can't help but be surprised by Sakusa's tone, you could sense some hostility in it, but you knew it wasn't directed at his setter. "Hello to you too Sakusa-kun." Mika replies while rolling her eyes. You finally take your seat beside Suna, choosing to immerse yourself in conversation with the cousins, Sakusa and Komori.
It's not long before Bokuto is tugging at your sleeve, motioning for you to get up on the mini stage and sing for the group. "Um, Bo, I don't know about that." Before you can protest you feel a nudge from behind, you turn to see your boyfriend with a smirk plastered on his face. "Y/N! Y/N! Y/N!" Chants of your name erupted from Bokuto, Hinata, Komori, and Suna. You let out a sigh. Who are you to deny the people?
"I need a partner, I'm not going to do this alone." You say into the mic that Bokuto had handed to you. Instantly the white haired male comes bounding towards you. "I already know what song we're doing!" You don't even have time to ask him before he's entering the song info into the display.
Your eyes widen as soon as the title appears on the screen and you hear the cheers coming from Hinata and your boyfriend. "I'll be the featured artist." The male tells you while grabbing a mic for himself. The music starts to play, you grab the closest drink to you, which just happened to be the rest of Hinata's beer before downing it. You were going to need some liquid courage for this song.
"I said, certified freak,
Seven days a week,
Wet-ass pussy,
Make that pull-out game weak, woo. (ah),
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Yeah, you fucking with some wet-ass pussy,
Bring a bucket and a mop for this wet-ass pussy,
Give me everything you got for this wet-ass pussy."
Oh god. You made a mental note to not bring snacks for Bokuto for the next two weeks. To your embarrassment, not only was your boyfriend hyping you up, so was Hinata and Komori.
"Gobble me, swallow me, drip down the side of me (yeah),
Quick, jump out 'fore you let it get inside of me (yeah),
I tell him where to put it, never tell him where I'm 'bout to be."
Surprisingly Bokuto was really into it, he definitely channeled his inner Meg for this performance. By the end of the song you and Bokuto had put on a performance worthy of the VMAs. You were trying to steady your breathing, not used to putting on a whole show in the span of three minutes and seven seconds, you used that time to get a good look at everyone around you. The room broke out into cheers and applause, you even managed to get Sakusa to clap for the both of you. The only one who didn't seem impressed with your performance was the blonde woman beside Atsumu.
"You call that a performance?" Atsumu let's out a sigh before glancing over at his girlfriend. "Babe, it was good. They were having fun." She starts to pout and you can't help but notice her little tantrum and the way Sakusa rolls his eyes at her. You didn't notice it before but even Hinata and Bokuto rarely interacted with her, they would keep their distance. What does that mean?
After a couple more hours you all decide to call it a night. You can't help but feel bad, it didn't seem like Atsumu was able to enjoy himself. Whenever you called out to him or tried to include him, his girlfriend would inmediately shut it down. You say your goodbyes to all your friends, Suna wanting to drop you home but you insisting he go along with Komori, not wanting him to get scolded by his coach again.
i just picture bokuto getting really into the song. lmao. full on performance and all.

Dangerous | Helmut Zemo
AU! Race car driver Zemo 😎
Gender neutral reader
Collage by @realremyd
I AM ONCE AGAIN SORRY
[Masterlist]
[Previous chapter] - [Next chapter]
Part 9
When Zemo got to the bar, there was no one there. He had gone inside looking for you, had asked all the staff when he couldn't see you there. He began to panic when they told him you had left a while ago.
Rushing back outside, he looked left and right rapidly. He saw no one. He got back into his car and drove. He would drive all night if he had to. He just had to find you.
He kept trying to call you, but you wouldn't pick up. At some point you turned your phone off, which just made him worry all the more.
Pietro Maximoff.
He hadn't heard that name in years. What happened back then had always hung over him like a dark cloud, but it had been so long since anyone had ever said that name to him.
He had to explain. You needed to know what happened. If Zemo lost you, what would be the point? How could he race without his lucky charm? He couldn't let this get between you both.
He felt horrible lying to you. There was so much he hadn't told you, but he had never wanted you to find out like this. He should have been honest from the start.
Zemo could only imagine what you were thinking. What must you think of him now?
How long had been driving? He had no idea. He hadn't found you yet. It was becoming harder and harder to keep up his facade. He wanted to yell, scream, punch something.
Everything was falling apart.
The only place he hadn't checked was home. He had no idea how you would have got there, the walk being too far, but it's all he had left.
He makes the drive back.
His grip on the steering wheel was tight. He was full of worry, anger, regret.
He pulls up to the house, but all the lights are off and there is no sign of life. He has the key for the door, there's no way you have got in. He looks down the path to the garage, it looks undisturbed. The garage is locked up tight.
You're not here.
His phone rings.
Zemo scrambles for the device, nearly dropping it from how bad his hands had begun to shake. He looks at the screen, but is left disappointed. It's not you.
James Barnes
He answers it.
"Whatever it is better be important. I have urgent business to attend to." Zemo is surprised by how level he can keep his voice right now.
"I'd say this is important."
"Well, what is it?"
"I bumped into Y/N on my way home. It's only because of Sam I was able to recognize them."
"Where are they?" He asks, almost urgently.
"On the last train home for the night. Zemo, what the Hell happened? They were hysterically upset. I swear I'll kick your ass if you did something stupid."
"It wasn't something I did. Were they alone?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Y/N had gone to meet someone. A wicked young woman who I may run over if I see her," he hisses down the phone.
"I didn't see anyone else."
"I have to go."
Zemo hangs up. He has to go to you, but first, he has to meet with Stark. The only way that nasty little woman could have known about that incident is if Stark had told her.
Tony Stark had been there that day.
Zemo gets into his car and he drives. He drives like a man on a mission. He doesn't care how late it is, Tony Stark will see him tonight.
If Zemo loses you, he will never forgive himself. He will never forgive Tony Stark.
He will never race again.
The lights are on at Stark's homebase. Zemo spends a few minutes parked outside looking at the window. The curtains were drawn, but movement could be seen vaguely behind them.
He gets out and marches up to the door. He knocks harshly.
In the seconds before the opening of the door, many thoughts flashed through Zemo's mind. He had no idea what would happen here tonight, all he did know was that Tony Stark was a cruel man who wanted to ruin everything good in his life.
Zemo had been beyond lucky they even let him race again after what happened.
The door opens. Stark stands there.
The way he looks at Zemo, it pisses him off. He stands with his chin up, head held high, looking down at Zemo. He knows why the Baron is here. He had anticipated his visit.
"What a surprise," Tony says, no emotion to his voice.
"What have you done?'
"What I had to." Tony walks away, leaving the door open. He walks over to his alcohol cabinet and pours himself a drink. Zemo steps inside, glaring daggers at the man. His hands clenched into fists as he grinds his jaw.
"That was six years ago."
"It still happened."
"You know it wasn't my fault."
Tony stands, drink in hand, looking at his rival. Here was a man who had been broken once before, and stands broken again. Stark did you a favour. Zemo wouldn't be here now if you had gone back to him after that, so he can only assume you left.
"You are the reason that kid is dead. Everyone knows it."
Zemo shakes his head.
"You are the reason people see me as a murderer. I did nothing to you. That, out there, is competition. We play the game by the rules and we play fair. At least, we're suppose to. I do not like your dirty tricks, Stark."
Tony doesn't move. He stands there, still.
"I was lucky they even let me race again, but even luckier when Y/N came into my life. You are taking away everything I hold dear, piece by piece. You are ruining me."
"You ruined yourself when you took up racing," Tony says, coldly.
"You just can't let it go, can you? You don't like that I am better than you."
Tony doesn't reply.
Zemo takes slow, careful steps toward Tony. His eyes, glazed with tears, do not look away from his gaze. He only stops when he is directly in front of him.
"If I lose Y/N, you will never hear the end of this. You're cruelty knows no bounds, Stark. I fell so very sorry for Miss Potts. How can she be so fond of a man like you who turns careers and flaunts around with other women. Does your little bird know you are a heartless bastard?"
"You don't scare me, Zemo."
"Not yet, I don't."
Zemo grabs the glass from Stark's hand, throws it at the wall behind him, and then marches away.
He has to see you.
By the time he reaches your town, it's about one on the morning. Though there is the chance you're sleeping, he is here and he will takes his chances.
He knocks on your door.
There are no sounds, no sign of movement, but there is a light which he can see under your door.
You're home.
"Y/N." His accent is heavier than usual, wavered by emotion. He leans up against the door, ear pressed against it.
You're there.
He knows you're there, listening.
"I'm sorry," he says, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about me. Pietro Maximoff died in a terrible accident. His car malfunctioned. It was an accident that turned into a case because someone decided to ruin my career."
He waited, wanted to see if you would say anything.
You didn't.
"I have raced before. I won on my first race. I won again, the second. A racing star, they called me. That was the first time Tony Stark had lost. Suddenly, he had competition. Real competition. Before, he would leave everyone in the dust, winning over and over again. Then I showed up. After my second win, he had my car checked. He was furious because it was legal. He assumed I had altered it against the rules because there was no way his cars would lose. Then that happened."
He hears you move. You're right behind the door.
"Pietro Maximoff was a crazy good driver. Apparently he was awed by me. I told him if he crossed the line that day, I would tutor him. We made a deal. However, his car malfunctioned after the third turn. He drove head first into the barrier, full speed. His car caught fire. He was alone. It took too long for the team to reach him. He died on impact, they say. He was dead whether they got to him or not."
He sighs, hand resting up against the door.
"I did not tamper with his car. I did not kill that boy. Tony Stark made them believe I did with no evidence to prove it. I was found not guilty of attempted murder, but I was disqualified from racing up until I finally made an appeal. This season is my first racing season in 6 years."
He waits.
He hears shuffling, but nothing else.
"You have to believe me. If I lose you too... i have nothing left."
Nothing.
You don't say anything. The door does not open. He steps back in defeat. He doesn't know what else he can do, what else he can say.
Except, "If you still hold feelings for me, then please be at the next race. If you come, I'll know you'll forgive me. I know you'll still love me. If you don't, then I will never bother you again. I'll know that I have ruined everything and I will live with that regret until the day I die."
He takes a deep breath and steps away further.
"I love you. I want you to know that. I love you."
You cry silently as you listen to him walk away. It's not until you're sure he has gone when you let your cries out.
On your coffee table sat your laptop. As soon as you got home, you had been researching what had happened that day.
There was no evidence.
Just articles and speculation.
The fact that you even believed for a moment he had killed a young man like that made you sick. How horrible of a person could you be?
Helmut deserved someone better than that.
He has spent so many years living with a tragic accident over him, and you hadn't even talked to him about it.
You felt awful.
You spent most of the night heartbroken. Sleep eventually paid you a visit, but it was hardly restful. You just woke up in pain.
Race day was coming fast.
What were you going to do?

[Eve and aid]
" I can't believe we're actually doing this! Are you excited? Are you nervous? Because I definitely am! I wonder who we will meet there? Will they be nice? Will they be mean? Will they-"before Aid could continue any further eve has put her hand over his mouth, muffling the sound"... You really making me reconsider if this was a good decision to make "she says in her usual neutral tone as she looks at the building before her, eyes focused as her gaze travels all over ueno academy" there's a window opened on the second floor, if I get enough momentum going-" that's when aid decided to cut her off, using his paws to pull her hand off before speaking" we can also just enter thro the front door "he suggested as he glanced at it" not like it's locked or anything " eve paused for a moment, slowly looking at the door before reluctantly admitting"...I suppose it would a method that draws the least suspicion to us "she says as she begins to approach it, deciding to ignore the how weird it felt to enter the building the 'correct way' for once.
Upon gaining access inside the woman and her companion immediately started looking around, eve carefully moving thro the hallway, her eyes sharp as she looked at each detail on the inner structure, aid on the other hand cheerfully floated thro the air, humming under their breath as they looked around with wonder, they went on like this for few minutes before stopping suddenly as they caught someone in their line of sight "eve look! A lab coat! They must be working here!" eve only nodded at aid words as she started to approach the bear they spotted "... Could you put me thru some tests?" Eve said almost immediately when they stopped next to him, Aid only looked at her exasperated before making himself visible to others" eve you can't just jump straight to the point without introducing yourself first! " after saying this the construct turns to the bear, a smile appearing on his black screen as he looks into his blue eyes" hello there! I apologize for my friend forwardnes… she doesn't get out much "Aid decided to ignore the empty stare that eve was no doubt giving him" my name is aid and this is eve, you see we came here looking for some help. "Intriguing."
"Sure, I'll take a look at you."
"As for finding out where your DNA came from, unless we have DNA from those people ourselves (and we don't keep anyone's DNA period), we wouldn't be able to match it with anything."

The Road to Love and Truth (Blackhill)
Rating: Teen and up
Words: 2827
Chapter: 2/2
Fandoms: Marvel
Characters: Natasha Romanoff, Maria Hill, Steve Rogers, Nick Fury
Additional tags: -
Summary: Maria struggles after her night with Natasha. She gets some good advice from Steve.
Authors note: Blackhill Bingo square I3 "Steve Rogers"
Story below the cut or in AO3 here
Maria still has a huge headache. She's been debating taking another aspirin to ease it down for the past 10 minutes, but it hasn't been too long since she took the first one and it might just not be working yet. The situation with Romanoff might not be helping either.
Without thinking she's making her way towards Phil's office. She's not sure why, she knows she won't talk about something like this to him. He's a good friend but she just can't talk about her sex life with him, less about feelings. Maybe he'll have some work she can do to distract her from the night before. She can't use her key card on a day off, (Fury has made it very clear she's not supposed to be doing work during any type of leave) so she can't go to her own office to continue work.
Phil isn't in his office. Now that she actually thinks about it, he has been on a mission since yesterday. She still needs something to distract her though. Maybe Fury would let it slide this once if she'd go do work, but she'd rather not see him right now. She decides to just go for a walk. Hopefully that'll clear her head a little.
------
The fresh air does help her headache and clears her head just the tiniest bit as well. She stands outside of the Triskelion for a short time and decides to go for a short walk along the river.
She keeps her eyes mostly on the water as she walks hands in the pockets of her sweats. She probably should've changed if she's honest, but she didn't want to go back to her room. SHIELD agents weren't that rare sight around these parts, but they definitely didn't go out in their gym clothes. She kicks around some pebbles every once in a while that are lying around the sidewalk.
She loses track of time, trying to just focus on nothing but the movement of the water. And she might have let her guard down, because she gets startled, when a hand taps her on the shoulder.
"Maria, what are you doing out here?"
"Jesus, Steve. Warn a girl next time."
"I literally yelled your name when I saw you. You're not usually this distracted. Are you okay?"
There's concern on his face and Maria doesn't like it one bit. She's fine, and even if she wasn't, everyone else needs to think she is.
"Everything's fine," she lies.
Steve gives her a long look, not quite believing her.
"You can always talk to me, you know? Whatever it is that's bothering you, I'll listen."
Damn Steve, and his kind heart.
"I know," she says.
"Okay, well I'm gonna finish my run. Come and find me if you want to talk about whatever this is," he says as he runs past her.
Maria just waves him off. She continues along the river for a while longer until her headache becomes worse again. Deciding it's best to just go back and take another aspirin, she turns around and heads towards the Triskelion again.
------
Eventually Maria realises she needs to talk to someone so she heads towards Steve's quarters and knocks on his door. He opens the door with a smile. They're good friends but it's quite rare she actually ends up on his doorstep.
"Hey, Maria. What's up?"
"I slept with Natasha," she answers as she pushes past him into his room. She sits on his bed, head in her hands. She hears the door click shut as Steve closes it.
"Not what I was expecting. How are you feeling?"
Maria groans at the question, "I don't know. I find out she's queer and few days later I find her in my bed. That's not how that should go. And worst of all I want to do it again, but I don't think I can just keep it at that."
"So you want to ask her out?"
"I think so?" She says and lays down on the bed so she can stare at the ceiling. "But I'm her superior, it's unprofessional, not to mention way too complicated. How am I supposed to be able to send her out there, if I'm worried if she'll make it back? How is Fury supposed to trust in me, if I get compromised because of her? Or what if I make the wrong decision, because I can't--" Steve cuts her off. She feels the bed dip, as he sits next to her on the bed and places a hand on her knee.
"Maria, you're forgetting one important thing, she's the Black Widow, she knows how to handle herself. Do you know how many times she's saved me out there? Because I've lost count by now. And Fury won't see you any differently if you start showing normal people emotions. Also stop worrying about 'what if's. Those are situations you can't know the answers for before it's too late. And for the record, I think you're already compromised. You care more about her than you know. Have for a long time."
"Fuck", Maria breaths the word out.
"Language."
"No, I actually fucked up."
"What did you do?"
"I just left her. She wanted to talk, and I just left her. I wasn't thinking clearly. I told her it was a mistake. Well it technically was because that was definitely not how I wanted that to go, but… I let her believe I don't want her. Shit!" She gets up quickly and starts pacing around. "I gotta go find her. Tell her that I'm sorry for how I treated her. That last night was great. Not that I really remember anything. To hopefully ask her properly out." She freezes on her tracks and turns to face Steve. "What if she says no? How am I supposed to continue working with her then?"
"Maria", Steve warns her.
"Right, won't know the answers before it's too late." She takes a deep breath. "Okay, I'm gonna go to find her. I wonder where she could be."
"At the gym with Barton."
"How would you know that?"
"Just a hunch."
------
She does find Natasha at the gym. She's beating up Barton at the mats. Maria decides to just stay by the door and watch, she'll notice her eventually. Natasha seems more tense than normal, maybe even a little angry. She doesn't move around as smoothly as she usually does. Her movements are a little more jacked, more forced. Maria realises that she's not fighting with a clear head. She's trying to push her feelings out. Maria was the reason the Widow's usually flawlessly smooth fighting style looked harsh and broken. It makes her heart twinge.
Eventually Natasha pins Barton down and he taps out. She gets up and her gaze shifts to Maria's. Maria physically flinches under her gaze. She quickly straightens her back and neutralises her face, when Barton gets back onto his feet and notices her presence.
"Commander," he coughs, eyes moving from Maria to Natasha and back again. After a couple of beats of silence he starts backing towards the men's locker room. "I'll just go then."
Maria just looks at Natasha, not really sure what she's supposed to say. Before she's able to say anything, Natasha turns on her heels and heads towards the women's locker rooms. That gets Maria on the move as well. She runs after Natasha and grabs her from the upper arm.
"Natasha wait," Maria says and Natasha stops on her tracks. "I'm sorry about earlier. Can we talk?"
Natasha turns around and Maria tries to look as apologetic as she can. Natasha just stares at her for a while.
"Fine. My quarters in 10."
Maria nods and drops her hold of the other woman. She didn't even realise she had still been holding her upper arm. Natasha eyes her quickly once more before she turns around again and heads out of sight to the locker room. Maria just stands still for a while, looking after her, until she spins around as well and heads out of the gym and towards Natasha's quarters.
------
Natasha is punctual as ever, and appears exactly 10 minutes later. Maria follows her silently into her room. Natasha sits down on her bed, one leg under herself while the other hangs off the edge. Maria is reminded of the morning. She stays standing near the door, but is faced towards Natasha. She's trying to figure out her words, even though she's been trying to figure out what to say ever since she walked out of Steve's quarters.
"Well?" Natasha prompts her.
"I fucked up. I'm really sorry for how I treated you. I panicked and I fucked up. I try my best to keep my private life and work separate, and I mostly live at work so… I'm having a hard time, to put it lightly. I also have never done this before."
"What? Been with a woman?" Natasha asks with a serious tone. It takes Maria a beat to realise she's not actually seriously asking that.
"No, Romanoff. You know that's not what I meant. I mean sleeping with a co-worker. Actually kinda never slept with anyone without being on a date first. And especially never had someone in my bed in a SHIELD facility."
"So I was your first one night stand?"
"About that, I wouldn't mind doing it again."
"Was I that good?" Natasha asks with a smirk.
"Natasha! I'm not talking about the sex. I'm talking about all of it. Everything since the mission. Spending time together at that bar and during the mission and also everything that came after."
"Wow. Is Commander Hill getting soft?"
"No,” she says. Taking a breath she continues, “I'd just like to see if this could become something. You're one of the few people around here who I can stand, and I actually had a really nice time yesterday. And I'm not regretting what happened after, so that probably says a lot."
Natasha gives her a small smile.
"What changed?"
"What do you mean?"
"You left the room in such a hurry and now you're here saying you don't regret it."
"Yeah, that. I might've talked to Steve and he had some good advice."
"You went to Steve?" Natasha's voice sounds almost scandalous.
"Who else would I go to? Fury? Do you think I have many friends around here? People who I could talk to?"
"Fair enough."
"So, if I'd ask you out on a date what would you say?"
"I would love to, but do you really want to go on a date? Because I feel like we're not the dating kind of people."
That was actually fair, she did always hate going on dates.
"What do you suggest then?"
"How about this?" Maria is really unsure about how she should feel about the smirk that follows that one simple question.
Natasha gets up and walks towards Maria. She stops when their chests are basically touching. She grabs Maria's hands and wraps them around her waist. Then she wraps her own arms around Maria's neck and rises up on her toes to kiss her. Maria basically melts into it. Eventually she lifts Natasha up and they move on the bed. Natasha seems very impressed that Maria can lift her. Maria might be a bit hurt about that.
------
When they decide to leave for an early lunch (neither remembered to eat breakfast), they're barely 100 feet down the hallway from Natasha's room, when they're stopped by a junior agent.
"Commander, Agent Romanoff. Director Fury wants to speak to both of you."
Maria and Natasha exchange a look.
"Did he say what about?" Maria asks.
"Not really," the Agent answers but there's a look on his face Maria doesn't like. It's like he knows something he shouldn't.
Maria debates for a little bit, if she should push and get some answers from him but decides against it. She dismisses the agent and starts heading towards the Directors office with Natasha.
They get a couple weird looks and smiles on the way there. They walk the whole way in silence. Both clearly trying to figure out what Fury wants from them.
Fury sees them immediately, which tells Maria that it's something important. She's getting nervous. Natasha is here as well, so her mind goes only to a specific direction, but how would Fury know?
"Director Fury, you wanted to see us?" Maria greets him.
"Hill, Romanoff. Has either of you checked the news today or any social media?"
Natasha shakes her head. She's been awfully quiet after they ran into that agent.
"No, sir. I haven't checked my phone at all today. Pretty sure it's dead anyway. I've been a bit distracted," Maria answers truthfully. There's no point in lying.
"Well, you probably should stay out of social media for a little while but that's just a suggestion. Do you have anything else to report to me?" His eye shifts from Maria to Natasha and back.
He knows. Maria takes a deep breath. She feels Natasha's hand touch hers, a sign that it's okay.
"Yes, sir. We, uh... Natasha and I are involved."
"Will it be affecting your work?"
"No, sir."
"Then I'm happy for you," he says with the slightest hint of a smile.
Maria is surprised and she can sense that so is Natasha. She lets her posture get a little more relaxed.
"Now to the real reason I invited you in," Fury says as he pulls some tabloid articles up on the screen behind himself. They're all saying basically the same thing: Black Widow at a gay bar with a mystery woman . Some of them have clearly done a better job with trying to figure out who this "mystery woman" is because a couple of them have actual pictures of Maria along with her name. And there's pictures. Pictures of them kissing, the intense looks they changed during that night and pictures of them leaving together.
"We tried to get them down before they spread too far, but clearly we didn't manage that. Anything about the Avengers' personal life spreads like a fire. I'm sorry about the situation it puts you in."
Both of the women just nod. There wasn't anything to say. Fury takes this as his answer and turns off the screen.
"Well then, you're dismissed. Hill, if you could stay for just a little longer?"
Natasha squeezes her shoulder a little before she steps out of the room.
"Sir?"
"No reason to be that formal anymore. This is just me checking on you. How are you feeling?"
"Well, that's a lot, but I think I'm fine. It's not the way I wanted things to go, but I guess it's good that it's out. If we wish to go out, now we don't need to worry if someone sees us or not."
"Okay, still I wish the situation wasn't this. I strongly suggest that you don't check any social media for the next few days. I know you think you can handle it, but there's gonna be some bad stuff there and I'd prefer the dust settles a bit first. Also if anyone, and I mean anyone, in SHIELD gives either of you a hard time because of this, let me know. I will handle it. It's out there, so everyone knows. I wish you could've handled this on your own terms, but the situation is what it is."
Maria smiles at him.
"Thank you, Director. I know I said it won't affect my work, and I truly believe and hope so, but if it ever seems like I'm putting her before the mission; pull me out of it, if possible. I know I won't be happy about it, but I need to know that I won't be making mistakes because I'm compromised."
"Of course. But I have full belief that you'll do great even then."
Maria nods and heads towards the door but Fury's voice makes her turn around before she gets to open it.
"Also, before you go. I am truly happy for you, Maria."
Maria smiles at him and nods her thanks and joins Natasha on the other side of the door.
Natasha hugs her as she closes the door. Maria circles her arms around her and presses her cheek against Natasha's head.
"That went better than I expected." She hears Natasha mumble against her chest.
"It did," Maria agrees.
"I'm so sorry about the articles though. If I would've just realised--" Maria quiets her with a kiss.
"Natasha, there's nothing you could've done about it. The second we walked in there everyone was paying extra attention to us. Those articles would be there even if we hadn't kissed. I'm just glad we did. I don't think I would've ever dared to take this step otherwise," Maria says. She looks Natasha in the eye and they exchange smiles. "Now, how about that lunch?"

Future
For the third time today, you hit Jimmy with the fins as you walk by, pretending you didn't notice. He groans and you bite back a giggle. “If you do that again, I swear I'll fire you.” He sings songs, putting the price tags on the new regulators that got here today.
“You can't fire me. I'm very good at selling stuff.” Putting the fins on its place you turn to look at him.
“The Padawan always becomes stronger than the Master.” Crossing his arms, he squints his eyes. “I taught you everything you know, Lily flower.”
“Yup. And I mastered every single aspect into perfection.” Walking around the store, you make your way back to the counter, letting your hair down, running your fingers through it. “I'm a Jedi by now.”
“You're getting cocky. I think you're spending way too much time with Billy.”
“Well, we're living together and dating so...” You move to stay behind the counter, drumming your fingers on the wooden top. “I'd say that yes, we spend way too much time around each other but I wouldn't change a thing.”
“You're the only couple I know who started living together before even starting to date,” Jimmy says, finishing with the regulators and moving to the new swimsuits, starting to organize them by color and size.
“Yeah, it wasn't the conventional way but it worked, didn't it?” Biting your lip, you try to hold back the smile that always comes whenever you think or talk about Billy. It's been a month since it became official, and things have been going well. Very well. The life you had before is a distant memory you don't even visit it anymore. You're still watching the news here and there, some of your old friends were released and the investigators are getting somewhere. But the truth is that this your life. A real life for a change, where the days aren't pointless, and you do love the friends you have, people with who you don't have to watch your manners or think before saying something. You can laugh out loud and make a mess if you want.
“It did. Look, this is girl stuff, can't you–. These are different sizes but they look the same.”
Rolling your eyes, you walk over him, pushing him away. “They're different, Jimmy. You're clueless.” Looking through the bikinis, you take one off the hook. It's blue and pink, with black symmetrical lines all over it. “I really like this one.”
“It's nice. I bet Billy will like it.” He says in a sassy tone, and you roll your eyes again.
“Alright. Can you put this in the back for me? I'll buy it.” Handing him the piece, you focus on reorganizing everything, paying attention to the clients in case anyone needs help. You're humming a soft song when you feel someone approaching, so you turn on your heels to find a guy walking over the swimsuits. “Hello. Do you need anything?”
His lips break into a bright smile, which you respond with a small polite one. “Yes. I was wondering what tank I should get.”
“It depends. If it's just for recreational purposes, the one with atmospheric air.” You say, finishing with the bikinis and turning to give the guy some attention. “Come, let's check them.” Gesturing, you walk to the other side of the store, almost in the back where the tanks are.
“What's this Nitrox thing?” He asks, stepping closer to the tanks, his hand brushing on your thigh. You move away, but since he didn't seem to notice, you decide not to give it much thought. Probably just an accident.
“That's for long dives. It's a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen.” Shrugging your shoulders, you lay a hand on a nearby tank. “But I assume it'll be just for fun so the atmospheric one will suffice.”
“You know a lot about this stuff.” His smile grows wider, and he gives you a little wink.
It makes you giggle. Is he trying to flirt? “I'm still learning.”
“What about... This one?” Stepping closer, he reaches out for a tank behind your back. You know what he's doing now, so you're quick to step aside before he can pin you against the wall.
Taking a deep breath, you roll your eyes. “Trimix. For depths beyond 130 feet. Which one will you take?”
“I could take two atmospheric tanks if you agree on coming with me for a... Recreational dive?”
“Nah, I don't think so.” He's not planning on buying it, so you make your way back to the counter. “First of all, I don't know how to swim. And second, I have a boyfriend.” Tapping on the counter a few times in a happy rhythm, you focus on the other customers around.
“And why haven't your boyfriend taught you how to swim yet?” He comes to the counter too, leaning on it, making you stand up straighter. “Or... Maybe he can't.” He giggles.
“Oh, he can.” You smirk. “He was a lifeguard during his time in Indiana.” As you speak, you see the man himself, walking closer, an eyebrow raised at the guy talking to you. Biting back a smile at his jealous face, you look at the guy again. “He's amazing, actually. Handsome, strong.” Raising your voice just enough for Billy to hear, you lean on the counter too. “But he's also kind and generous. Honest, trustworthy.”
“Sweetie, nobody is perfect so don't even try to make me believe he is.” The guy chuckles, raising an eyebrow.
“Oh, no. He's not perfect. Billy has problems with anger and he absolutely hates when guys try hit on me.” The moment you're done speaking, Billy touches the guy's shoulder, strongly pulling him away from the counter. “Hi, baby.” You say, giving Billy a bright smile.
“Billy, my dude.” The guy says, nervously stepping back, hands raised. “Didn't know the girl was with you, man.”
“Now you do, so back the hell off.” His thunder voice gets people's attention, but you don't even bother.
“Alright, alright.” He mutters, walking backward until he's in the middle of the store, where he finally turns around and leaves.
“Let me know if you want the atmospheric air tank!” You shout, laughing a little.
“Seriously, why the hell–” Billy starts, but his words fade when he looks at you.
Shrugging your shoulders, you giggle at his expression, leaning a little closer to him. “What?”
“Of course guys will hit on you.”
“Uhm... Care to explain it or am I supposed to guess?”
“You look good, that's it. And all this friendly act when you're working here. The kind smiles, politeness... Guys are stupid, they'll think you're interested.” When Billy leans over, you don't move away, a smirk coming to your lips when his face gets dangerously close.
“So... Are you calling yourself stupid?” You whisper, taking his bottom lip in between your teeth. Some people are starting, you're sure. They all know Billy around here, but it doesn't bother you.
“I was stupid. Now that I'm with you, I'm the smartest man on Earth.”
“Doesn't make much sense, Billy.”
“Doesn't have to.” He rolls his eyes, lips finally meeting yours.
“Hey, hey!” Jimmy exclaims from somewhere behind you. “You can take this home, alright? Remember rule number one? Not making out in work hours?”
“My work hours were done seven minutes ago so...” You snap, turning on your heels and waving at Jimmy. “See ya at the bonfire.”
“See ya, Lily flower.”
“Bye.” Muttering, you sigh at the name he calls you.
Walking hand in hand with Billy, you wonder when you'll be able to tell them the truth. It's tiring to hold on to this lie. It's the only thing left to open up about. That, and the fact that you're, well, rich. Sitting shotgun, you look at the people walking on the sidewalk, quietly thinking.
“Hey,” Billy calls. “Everything alright? Did that guy–”
“No, no.” You assure him, shaking your head. “If that idiot tried anything you'd know.”
“Then what's wrong?”
“It just sucks that they still think my name is Lily.” Running a hand through your hair, you sigh. “I'm (Y/N). And I'm afraid they'll be mad when I tell the truth about who I am, who my family is. I don't wanna lose them.”
“Princess, you're hiding your identity for a very good reason. They know about the kidnappings, I'm sure they'll understand when you tell them the truth.” Billy lays a hand on your thigh, and you stretch your arm to massage the back of his neck. “They're not like those pricks, they'll understand.”
“I hope so. I'm sick and tired of that Lily flower shit.”
“Yeah, I bet it sucks being named after my car.” He says, a smirk on his lips.
“What?” You breathe out, smiling. “Are you finally letting me name your car?” You basically jump on your seat, leaning over Billy to place kisses all over his cheek and jaw.
“Keep that up I might even let you name our future kids.”
His words make you stop, freezing, slowly moving back to your seat. Kids? Is he joking or something? Does Billy even want kids? And does he want them with you? This was never brought up before. Billy nervously moves in his seat, clearing his throat. “What?” It comes out almost a whisper.
“No, just... It just...”
“It's alright. I don't...” Billy enters the small parking lot beside the building, stoping on his usual spot. “Anyways, we still have to deal with things when I'm allowed home, so...” You step out of the car, a little flustered, walking side by side with him. “Until that happens we can just...”
“Yeah, we can wait until you break the news to your parents, then–”
“Yeah.” You cut him off, taking his hand. “We still have time since neither the police or the investigators seem to be anywhere close. So let's have fun now and talk about the future later.”
“Let's focus on the bonfire for now.”
“Beach party!” You exclaim, giggling when he pokes your side on a ticklish spot.
An hour later, you're at the beach, in a long skirt and blue top, talking about the most stupid things as the huge bonfire sends flames up to the sky. You're seated on a huge beach towel, eating burned marshmallows. The wind is fresh and the sky is still fading into the black for the night. Leaning against Billy, you giggle every time he places a kiss on your shoulder. There are way more people here than planned, but nobody seems to care. The music is loud, but the voices are louder. Over thirty people are either by the fire or playing on the water, and you've never felt this... Carefree. Or happy. The same people your parents despise so much, are now the best people you know. Just a bunch of kids having fun, not thinking too much, not overthinking their manners, or looking at others with judgmental eyes. This is easy, effortless.
“Billy!” Someone calls, waving their hand over the fire. “A little help with these coolers!”
“It's Austin.” He says, and you move a little to let him get up. “Finally some food and drinks.”
“Yeah, I'm thirsty.” You complain, turning your attention to Stacy as Billy walks away. “So. You and Jimmy. When is it happening?”
“Shhh.” She takes a look around before standing up and pulling you with her. “He doesn't make a move, so I'm starting to give up this idea,” she says when you're away from the others, near the deck of a small snack bar which is almost closing.
“You like him, and he likes you. What's missing?” You ask, not sure what else to do to help. Jimmy often comes to you for advice, and you do your best to push him into asking Stacy out. But after three weeks, it hasn't happened yet. But if it was a double date... “Oh! Gosh! It's so damn obvious!”
“What?” She giggles, pinching her eyebrows together.
“Double date. Saturday. Movie theater.” You say, winking at her. “You two are coming and leave the rest to me.”
Giving a little jump, Stacy pulls you into a hug. “You're the best. I can't believe I haven't come up with this idea myself but I'm so thankful you're my friend.”
“I'll get you two together.” Pulling away, you assure her. “It's a promise.”
“Thanks.”
“You're welcome.” Linking arms with her, you start making your way back to the fire. Your eyes find Billy in a distance, and you're just about to change direction when a girl walks over to him, arms immediately wrapping around his neck, her lips chasing his. You stop in your tracks, freezing, throat suddenly dry. Relief washes over you when Billy pushes her away before she can kiss him, holding both her arms when she tries approaching him again. “The audacity of that bitch.” Stacy mutters, and you nod.
“Why don't you go ahead, I'll... Go there.” Gesturing at the snack bar, you step back.
“Lily...”
“It's alright. I'll just get something to drink.” You know the drinks just got here, but you don't care, you just need some time right now. Turning your back at her, you climb the few wooden steps that lead to the snack bar's small balcony, where some tables give the clients a view of the ocean, holding your skirt so it won't get into your way. When you get to the deck, you walk to the very back, where's dark since half the lights are already off.
You don't know why you're feeling so bad. Billy pushed her away, but still, you're... Angry. Stacy is right, the audacity of that bitch... But if she felt like she could do that, she was one of his many... Flings. And it kills you to imagine them together. Leaning over the wooden railing, you put both hands on your head, the wind messing with your hair.
“Hey, there.” Billy's voice reaches you and, taking a deep breath, you turn around with a half-smile.
“Hey...”
“Stacy told me you saw Amanda grabbing me.” He starts, coming to stand beside you. “You know that–”
“Billy, I saw you pushing her. I'm not mad at you, I'm happy, I just...” Throwing your hands in the air, you sigh, letting them fall. “I just don't like the mental pictures I'm having about the two of you.”
“You're jealous.” He states, and when you look at him, he's trying to hold back a smile. “That's how you cope. You like to be alone. I like punching the guys in the face.”
You didn't want to, but you're chuckling anyways. “Yeah, I kinda noticed that.” Billy comes closer, pinning you against the railing and you wrap your arms around his neck.
“It'll take a while for people to believe I'm actually dating someone this time. But they'll get it, I promise.” He places a soft kiss on your lips. “Even if I have to shove away half the girls of California.”
“You're so cocky, did you know that?” You give him a light push, but you move alongside him, leaving the railing behind. “But it's okay. I just... I hope I won't... End up like one of them. Being pushed away.” With a low voice, you look down, the very thought of it breaking your heart a little.
“When you're falling asleep you have the habit of moving your feet,” Billy says, and the subject is so damn random you raise an eyebrow, staring back at him, shrugging your shoulders. “And you take deep breaths as you relax, and it means you snuggle closer to me every time. And almost every morning you find a way to hook a leg around me so I can stay a little longer.”
“You'll have to help me out here because I don't follow.” Furrowing your eyebrows, you cross your arms.
“I was never that intimate with anyone. And I never wanted to, that's why I never took any girls to my apartment.” Billy softly rubs your arms, and for some reason, your attention falls on the exposed part of his chest. The idiot doesn't seem to know what buttons are for... But you don't care. “But with you, I... I want this. And when the issue with your parents is over we will talk about what will come next and–”
“Oh my God!” Someone from inside the snack bar exclaims, turning the TV volume up. “They got them. The police got them.”
After exchanging a glance with Billy, you both rush inside, eyes on the TV. And yes, the police got them. The journalists show the commotion, an abandoned place, all wrecked, as the criminals are dragged out. And the hostages they still held. Soon enough everyone from the bonfire is here too, silently watching. You're relieved, of course, to know the people you grew up with are being released. But it means you'll have to face your parents, and finally make the changes in your life permanent. With a hand on your heart, you stare at the TV without paying much attention.
“Wanna get out of here?” Billy whispers on your ear, and you nod, following him out of the snack bar.
Guess you'll be talking about the future a lot sooner than you thought.

Little steps- my self insert Fic (S/I POV) with a bunch of silly illustrations! Oh did I mention that this involves Kaeya? Well he's the main focus here even though Lisa is mentioned shit ton of times! Might write something for her focus too someday.
I finished it ages ago but I was afraid to post it- I'm not anymore and also✨ it's my birthday ✨
~~
Ever since I joined the knights I decided to write in a diary, it helped me keep track of time. Lisa told me that it can help me in various ways, like for example remembering names of the other knights, or checking my personal progress. Now that I think about it, it was long since I checked my old entries. Nothing interesting happened today anyway so I might as well read some. I don't really remember anything that was going on when I started so I suppose I could refresh my memory.
Today Lisa wanted to introduce me to someone- she probably wanted to help me by looking for training partner for me, however I had to refuse. You probably remember why was that, I got scared of meeting someone new again. I couldn't get that mess on her shoulders when she has so much to do as it is! And there was no way I'd meet them alone it'd be too akward for both of us!
I remember the exact moment I tried to come up with an excuse for future me... It kinda made me giggle how stupid I am sometimes, but let's look at something else...
I've never felt as lonely as I do now, I don’t even know why. I don’t miss anyone nor I ever craved any interactions... But to make that feeling go away I thought about talking to Amber but when I left the house she was talking to Noelle and I got scared to approach them... Instead I decided to sketch something and stay inside for the rest of the day.
I immediately looked at my sketchbook, I don't even have to look inside, I was drawing what's outside my window like always. Maybe I'll find some better memory if I keep looking?
During my patrol I got a bit lost... It was scary... But I wasn't alone, an Adventurer found me... However he got lost too. It was a bit unlucky day since I picked the wrong maps, we also got attacked a few times by monsters. I kinda feel bad for him since he tried his best to cheer me up but I stayed silent. It should've been other way around a knight shouldn't le
Bennett! How could I forget his name when I was writing this? He was such a sweetheart I obviously had to mess it up and make him feel uncomfortable... But I did make up for it! Maybe I'll finally read something positive? I somehow can't remember how exactly that went... Or if I was daydreaming about apologizing?
I decided to bake something for Bennett as thank you and apology for acting so cold towards him. But I had no idea on how to find him... Or what to say... So after thinking for few minutes I decided to talk to Katherine and ask her to give it to him. After "talking" to her I locked myself in my room out of embarrassment, I messed up again. I just said "Bennett" placed my pastries and left. Now I probably won't be able to face her for at LEAST two months.
I cringe at the memory... Gosh now this will keep me up at night for sure... I finally forgot about it and now it'll haunt me.
Wait a second... Did I really not made any progress at all!? I was trying so hard to socialize with others and get out more but I seem to still not be able to do it right. No, it's impossible. I'm good friends with Lisa! So I definitely made any progress... Or is she just so easy to talk to? Time to take a final look at something recent for a change...
Capitan Kaeya Alberich wanted to talk to me outside work... It might not sound like a big deal but somehow I just froze... I wasn't able to respond properly and he probably guessed what I was going to say, not that he ever can't do that... I might be too predictable. Either way I feel bad, my behavior was really disrespectful and I knew better than that to just ignore someone like him. I still have much to learn and I'll need to properly apologize for staying silent.
I only ever failed... There is no mistaking it. Great way to note down progress huh? Too bad there is none.
Think, what do I need to do to finally do better? I am the problem for sure but what do I really need to change? Maybe I should just start observing how others act... After all I never bothered to do that. It might help in one way or another...
Obviously there's only one place where there is a lot of people and I won't look like a total creep if I'll just listen in the conversations and look at random people... It's no other than the tavern. I'm scared to go there alone... But I don't have to!
Lisa would be willing to go right?... Then again I rely on her a bit too much and going out like this could be an opportunity to break the ice with someone else...
Jean is always busy, Amber will be way too distracting and we might end up somewhere else, Eula is too scary, Venti... I don't even know why I'm considering him.
Maybe that offer from capitan Kaeya still stands? It's from bearly 2 weeks ago so maybe if I get lucky and he happens to still be interested, I can actually go...
What am I even thinking!? I didn't even apologize for the last time... But being around so many drunk people is terrifying... However I can't bet on the fact that he won't drink too much... On the other hand he seems to handle people and I'll definitely learn something.
Screw it. It might be scary but I need to do it. Tomorrow I'll ask him! That's for sure! He's the most respectable and trustworthy person who isn't always busy and will not distract me.
~⏳
I'm scared to do it but I have to! I need to... Did I really say that I'm gonna do it today? Or should I just pretend that I never thought of it. He's probably busy today. Yup definitely that no need to feel stressed.
I haven't seen him back at the headquarters nor did I see him around town when I was coming back from my patrol- that's a good sign. It's still pretty early but I don't think that I'll see him today... What a relief!
Before I left the headquarters after finishing some paperwork I hear a voice that belongs to a beautiful librarian I am lucky to be able to call a friend.
"Hey there cutie, are you okay?"
"Just a little bit nervous that's all, nothing new haha"
"Do you need me to pass a message again?"
"No need! It's something I need to say myself..."
"I see..."
"But if you happen to see capitan Kaeya it would be nice if you could tell him that I was looking for him" out of habit I grab my hair and begin to play with it. Lisa's warm soothing voice blessed my ears as she said "No worries darling, I'll let him know" before she left and giggled to herself...
Wait... Oh no.
Why did I say anything!? Is she that magical that I can't say anything but what's on my mind.
If she happens to meet him my request will be unavoidable! Even if I tried thinking of something else Kaeya will know that I'm lying. I can't avoid him either... Can't waste his precious time...
How do I even ask him!? Do I need to change from my work clothes before I go? What should I do...
I didn't realize that I started walking in circles before someone approached me.
"Heather?"
I turn around and see the man I was thinking about all day. Dammit... I have to say it. I can't think of an excuse and staying silent is now unacceptable.
"Oh-uhm... Greetings Capitan Kaeya"
"Lisa informed me that you were looking for me"
"Oh right!... That... Haha..."
"I don't want to rush you, however I do have some business to attend to"
"I'm so sorry! I mean- since you're busy then my silly request is irrelevant"
"Come now, I believe that I should be the judge of that" his smug look made it ever so slightly more challenging to say anything.
"I just... Ugh..." I took a deep breath "Look as you know I was trying to loosen up recently and well I realized that I wasn't making any progress at all. So I remembered that one time you asked me to go to the tavern with you and I refused... I mean ignored you, which I am VERY sorry about but now I think that it was a mistake and today I wanted to ask you to accompany me but since you're busy let's just forget about everything" I felt relieved getting that off my chest.
"I don't think that will do, in fact I was heading towards the tavern so if you really want to I suppose you can join me" Oh right... I forgot about him gathering some information there from time to time. So it might work after all! He won't pay too much attention to me and I could investigate without tons of distractions.
"Let's get going then capitan" I say before he smiles softly in response "Wait do you want to get going now or-"
"Yes" he cut me off, which was fair and I'm glad he did it before I said something dumb.
We're almost there. Before we get closer I suddenly stop.
"That reminds me!" I realized I spoke out loud, as he looked at my direction my confidence dropped dead "I've never actually tried any alcohol so would you be so kind to recommend something for me? I figured that since I'm already getting out of my comfort zone might as well try something new" I said under my breath but he definitely understood what I meant judging by his facial expression and well... response.
"Absolutely" my heart skipped a beat. I desperately tried to start a conversation topic... But choosing alcohol might be something I'll regret...
Kaeya started listing few drinks I could enjoy his words were poetic as he described the beverages, however the names of the drinks went over my head. It wasn't that bad but I just felt stupid over how clueless I was. He definitely knew what he was talking about and I'm more than interested in hearing more. The more he talks the less likely I am to say something I'll regret.
"Obviously since I don't know how much you can handle I won't be forcing you to try too much too soon" he paused "Your father probably wouldn't be happy either if you returned drunk" he said teasingly. It invited me to respond less seriously.
"Oh no! This means that we'll have to do it again, how awful"
"We didn't enter yet so you can feel free to leave now before you regret spending time with me of all people" his voice was now suddenly much more hostile... Did I mess it up!?
He laughed softly "I'm sorry did I go too far? While I don't want to force you to do anything, I won't lie... I'm a bit curious to learn something new about you tonight"
We were still outside standing right in front of the entrance to the tavern if not for chatting we could hear from the inside there would be total silence.
"I'm sorry for being quiet again! It's just that you caught me off guard haha" I look away "There isn't much to know about me so I feel like I'll only disappoint you"
"I'm not so sure about that part"
"Wait... Did my father tell you anything about me!?"
"Look let's just get inside, We'll discuss it later"
Nervously I followed him yet again. The atmosphere was warm and I could see different kinds of people all over the place. We sit down.
"So did he tell you anything?" I ask immediately.
"Relax, he didn't" he seemed amused by my desperation to know. It's understandable... And I'm probably overreacting anyway. I collect my thoughts "I'm sorry"
"What are you sorry for?"
"I'm just making this into some big deal for no reason. Maybe the reason is the huge amount of respect I have for you that makes me freak out"
"I see, well I don't see the reason to be so formal now. We aren't working after all" his soft smile was enough for me to calm down.
"Thank you" Maybe it was all I needed to hear, after that everything went smoothly.
I start feeling proud of myself... Maybe I can change after all? Either way it only shows that I have to write it down! And once I was back home I did just that.
Today I had enough courage to take a step in right direction! I went to a tavern with capitan Kaeya. It was fun and for the first time in years I wasn't that scared. It wasn't totally perfect but it was definitely worth it.

------------------------------------------------------------------
I was ashamed to have lied to Freya, to have hide my true state and not telling her that I was already knowing it since 3 years but...I was afraid. I'm still afraid right now. I was fearing at every moment I was either facing her or talking to her in those phone calls, I was in pain, thinking at the moment I will have to tell her that and it did happened. Seeing her threatening, hitting Park like that while I was attached to that chair, it was my breaking point, I wasn't able to hold anymore, I cracked because it was enough...it was...my only way...
Of course, I knew that she was going to be upset at me, telling that I betrayed the cause, that I was abandoning her....she did the same thing to me...she betrayed me, she stole from me, she...she abandoned me. She couldn't face my own words against her as she quickly left the room after I told her that. She left me in pain on that bed, fearing for an lot of things : what now ? Is Park is going to be hurt because of me ? What are they going to do ?
Now, I was only obliged to wait again, taking more time to sleep because I wouldn't want to talk to anyone after what I did and like it happened for 2 days, no one between Sonya, Freya, Stitch or even Knight was coming to see me, it was the usual guards that were bringing meals & something to drink for almost 3 days....3 days that I didn't really speak, repeating the same question each time was coming in : Which time is it ? It was the only words I did speak out of my mouth in 3 days.
The 10th of June...I don't know why but this day was maybe going to be different at the moment I woke up, it was just an simple feeling even if nothing unusual happened until at what I supposed to be at the beginning of the evening where the door of the cell was getting opened, me still leaned on the wall next to the bed.
"It....why did you do this ?" I was surprised when I was able to see Sonya themselves arriving in the cell, the door closing behind them.
"Don't start." I whispered in an low voice as my first thoughts was saying that they were going to be like Freya from 3 days ago.
"Yirina." They said, calling by my real name as they now know about me. "I don't want to be bothering or disturbing but I want to know." They added, slowly moving to face me, getting next to the bed without approaching it too much.
"I have my reasons." I replied, my hands on my face before I looked back at them, realizing that I couldn't lie anymore. "I was afraid, Sonya." I told them, saddened.
"Why were you afraid ?" They asked me, deciding to sit back against the wall behind them, curious.
"When I woke up and that we told me that...I spend 3 years in an coma, I was afraid." I replied, thinking about the precise moment I opened my eyes in that hospital bed in Moscow. "I couldn't go back here and I wouldn't do that."
"She said that you were both raised by Perseus an large part of your life." They expressed, having now learned about my life from Freya herself. "She said that you betrayed us."
"I opened my eyes." I corrected them in an gentle way. "I was living under an lie during years and I couldn't let this continue." I continued, clenching my fists on my lap. "My friends were in danger."
"You put your friends before Perseus...." They acknowledged, looking at the camera just above them. "I heard that this Iranian arms dealer...."
"Arash Kadivar." I said, helping them as they were having trouble to find that name according to their face.
"Yeah, that man, he shot you and left you for dead because he knew." They stated, all right in their words. "The CIA captured you and brainwashed you but...you're still helping after everything that happened."
"I'm not with the CIA, Sonya !" I exclaimed, almost raising my voice. "I'm working with the MI6."
"MI6, CIA & even the fucking BND, they're all the same !" They claimed, crossing their arms to me, I don't know if they were actually trying to make me back at their side. "All proclaiming the same shit."
"Welcome to the world of spies." I scoffed, trying to have an little smile on my face. "The MI6 isn't trying to kill me everyday unlike the CIA." I claimed.
"Everything is fake and you know it well." They proclaimed to me, an serious look on their face.
"No, not everything." I started, looking down at my hands. "There's things that can't be fake." I added before I put my head up.
"And what are those ?" They demanded, curious.
"The discussions I had with you, they were not fake." I responded, putting my real thoughts about Sonya themselves.
"That's bullshit !" They spoke up, shaking their head away before their eyes met my face. "Wait, you're not bullshitting me ?" They asked and I shook my head.
"I was maybe acting as Bell but I was true in my words, Sonya." I claimed in an clear voice, full of truth. "Maybe that it's non-sense but it's true." I added.
"You're serious ?" I nodded to that question from them.
"I know that you're rude, agressive but...I like you." I explained, moving to sit on the edge of the bed. "You're maybe rude because you don't want to see people knowing about your soft side."
"You don't know me." They whispered, sounding like an pleading to stop.
"In fact, you want to protect the soft side at all costs, you want to be good but everyone is forcing you to be an rude person." I told them even they wanted me to stop as the first tears were coming out of their eyes. "We knew each others for only days but deeply inside of you, you know that you can be better."
"Yirina." They muttered, cleaning the tears on their face with their hands. "I don't know how I can say this but....it must be one of the first good words that I heard in here." They snorted, slowly getting up. "It's hard at some times."
"I had an friend before....like you." I started, mentioning Zasha but pretending that they're dead since we're watched I don't want to put their life & Portnova's one in danger. "They were feeling oppressed because of who they were and me too." I added, looking with good eyes to them. "I was there for them and someone is here for you."
"I would have like to meet them to know more about they managed to get over it." Sonya spoke up with an grin on their face, their eyes filled with tears. "I'm guessing that...we're all facing an pain like that."
"We all do." I sniffed, passing my hands through my face. "We're all trying to find an bit of redemption here." I continued.
"Maybe." They muttered before suddenly, the door went widely open and it was Freya herself coming her, still dressed in the same military uniform for days now.
"Sonya, leave, I want a word with her." She ordered, pointing to them outside the cell.
"Freya, listen...."
"No, Sonya, you listen to me !" Freya cut Sonya straight in their words, still showing to them outside. "When I told you to leave, you leave." She repeated as Sonya took an deep breath before they resigned themselves to leave my cell, leaving me with Freya alone.
"What do you want ?" I questioned her, going back further on my bed to lean against the wall.
"I want to know things." She replied, moving to face me, standing up.
"You have to be precise, Freya." I muttered, looking at her with narrowed eyes. "You want to talk about my treason ? That I abandoned you ?" I continued, clenching my right fist on my right knee.
"I did mistakes." She breathed, deciding to get on the bed, away from me.
"Yeah, you blamed me for abandoning you, to betray Perseus but you abandoned me, remember ?" I told her in an almost angry voice. "You stole my mother's ring while I was dying on that airstrip." I made her recall that event, her eyes went wide at that.
"You remember that ?" I nodded to her slowly.
"I remember things but not everything." I stated, not wanting her to know more about my returning memories. "You left me to die, letting me getting captured by the CIA, you betrayed me." I repeated to her the same words I told her days ago. "You chosed Perseus over me."
"I didn't have any choices, Yiri." She whispered.
"Don't call me like that, I'm not your 'Yiri' anymore." I ordered in an dark serious voice to her. "We were like sisters but slowly, you changed, you became one with Perseus and you started to be away from me."
"You too !" She spoke up, her head turning back to me after she was looking down in shame. "You became distant, only caring for your friends and now, look at you." She added, checking me from top to bottom.
"I'm well and better since I'm not longer with Perseus." I stopped her as she was going to continue to speak. "The MI6 gave me an chance to redeem myself for everything I have done under Perseus's wing." I exclaimed, proud to have changed in an very good way.
"Was it Park who gave you that chance ?" She asked me and I nodded. "Yeah, I should have know that." She thought to herself. "You know what she did and...you...you're with her ?"
"Maybe she did this by force or by her own will, I don't care !" I claimed, starting to thinking that even if Park did this because it was the only choice, I couldn't really blame her. "I love her because she was one of the few people that were believing me when I was Bell." I continued, feeling the sadness to say that to Freya herself. "She's still believes in me, other people too."
"You loved her....since when ?" She demanded, curious and sounding strangely normal to me.
"When I was Bell, I fell in love after we got our hands on Anton Volkov." I replied, seeing her face staying straight to me, very curious. "She forgave herself after I was told the truth and since, I'm still in love." I breathed as I moved back on the edge of the bed. "When I saw you starting to hit her, I couldn't resist anymore."
"I never thought of that." She whispered, looking away from me.
"I was broken with everything...what you did is still making me broken." I stated in an sad voice to her. "I'm afraid, Freya." I continued.
"But we are helping you to not be afraid anymore." She exclaimed again, moving to get next to me closely. "I want you to be better and...back to me." She expressed, making me look at her as she removed the mask that was covering her mouth. "Please, kiss me." She pleaded but I refused, standing up from the bed.
"No, I will not do that !" I bit my lips as I was angered about her moves towards me. "You're with Sonya, not with me." I snorted, putting my hands on my waist. "Tell me : did they come to you....or did you came to them ?" I demanded in an serious voice, turning around to face her, awaiting an answer.
"I came to them." She replied in an broken voice and by hearing that, I looked down at my feets, nearly shocked. "They didn't want at first but I was in need of love."
"You could have it if you weren't so believing in Perseus ideals." I stated as she looked back at me. "Do you realize that....you're still with them and that, you're willing to sacrifice that for an relation that can't be reborn ?" I questioned her and suddenly, she nodded to me. "Sonya love you...you're doing the same thing from 3 years ago."
"I don't want them to suffer." She sniffed, tears on her face.
"They're suffering because you're like that, change !" I suggested in an harsh tone. "I only know them for days and I could see that they were looking in pain because of everything." I proclaimed, pointing at the closed door of my cell.
"That's an risk to take." She claimed, making me realize that it was only me...only me for her.
"Yeah, you're not the Freya Helvig I once knew, the one that was my sister." I looked down and turning away from her. "You're risking everything for me but you know about it."
"I know." She said in an low voice as I could hear getting up.
"You know that I will never come back to you." I snorted again as suddenly, I could feel an sort of pain in my neck....I....when I put my hands at where it was hurting me, there were....an syringue at it. "What did you do ?" I asked her, worried as I removed the syringue by force.
"I'm sorry but I have no choices, Yirina." She was looking stoic before I put my hands on her, slowly starting to go into vapes.
"You...I will never...." I wanted to say as my legs went limp, causing me to fall back on the ground, losing control of me in that cell.
"You will come back and it will be with me !" She repeated her desires until my eyes closed, passing out on the ground.
She....she did make me passed out again like she did at the Mount Yamantau, I didn't see that coming and now, inside of me, I was mostly fearing the damn worst. That wasn't the Freya Helvig I knew, something must have happened in her life that make her do that, an memory I still not got access to. Was it something in the past or something that started at the moment she saw me for the first time in April ? She was already like in 1980, it was surely during the past but what exactly ?
I couldn't know of that and I was trying to search through my mind as I was still unconscious, wondering that could do to me and Park. It was sure that my revelations I spoke up days again could have make some waves in the Perseus Collective and for that, they problably thinking that these talks as tests weren't useful anymore....I'm scared, afraid of what was going to happen to me and that fear came in me as I opened my eyes.
When I woke up maybe hours after Freya make me sleep, I discovered that I was attached in an sort of stretcher...in an medical room, my arms spreaded wide like an T-pose. Above me, an light that was almost blinding me and then, I could see Stitch and Freya, next to each other, looking at me with curious looks.....what are they doing ?
"I couldn't expect that she was going to recover this fast from the injection you made her." Stitch exclaimed, looking at Freya that was still having her eyes on me.
"That's our only way to bring her back home, Stitch, you know that." She said, her hands in the back, her eyes on me.
"What are you doing ?" I asked the two, scared before Freya moved to put her hands above my mouth.
"Ssshhh, let us help you." She whispered, holding my mouth firmly. "You will be mine again, Yiri, you will not change that." She added.
"You will be soon another experiment and we will make sure that you see good !" Stitch affirmed, giving me the worst fears I could have : they were planning...to brainwash me....again....
"No, no, no !" I yelled as Freya took an second to remover her hand from me before she put it back above my mouth, cutting my cries out as my eyes were crying.
"You're familiar with MK-Ultra so you already know the effects." Stitch explained, moving to get next to Freya. "You betrayed us but you will see that it's not good to do that." He continued until an door opened in the room, discovering Knight, dressed in his military suit.
"They did it, Stitch !" The man spoke up, holding an video tape in his hands. "They cleaned up the station in Verdansk." He added.
"Good, put it in the video recorder." He ordered as he make an sign to Freya herself and then, she put some tape on my mouth, avoiding me to talk and I wasn't able to move my body, only my head as the trio were starting to watch the tape.
On that tape, I could see that it was the images of an camera hold by an Perseus soldier under attack by someone and then, I could see....Woods himself, brandishing an pistol before shooting dead the soldier who fall on the ground. At my great horror, the camera was giving into the direction of an stretcher that was holding....Adler as Woods & also Sims as I could see were helping Adler to get up.
"They rescued Adler faster than predicted...." Stitch started as he was moving away from where he was leaned as Freya & Knight was looking at him. "No matter, our work with him...is done." He continued as the TV went off, meaning the end of the tape.
"So, we move forward ?" Freya asked, moving an little
"Not yet !" Stitch replied, slamming his fist against an sort of control panel on an sort of blueprint on it. "Their satellites are interfering with our broadcasts !" He continued as he was looking back at the two while me, I was worried about everything he was saying. "The Verdansk test subjects are in place but we are not getting through."
"They still don't know what we're doing." Freya remarked to him, pointing at the door in an quick movement
"We have the advantage." Knight told Stitch, holding an ice pick in his hands. "We should press it !"
"Our man in South Africa is standing by." Freya expressed, her hand still pointing at the door direction.
"Agreed ! All the pieces are in play." Stich said before he took an deep breath. "Make the call !" He ordered as Freya make an quick look with me before her & Knight left the room, leaving me with Stitch as he moved back to me, putting his hands on my mouth, establishing an fear in me with my still crying eyes......

No More Divisions - Chapter Eight: Why Should We Help?
JJ x Original Character
MASTERLIST
<3
~
At the makeshift headquarters beside the lighthouse, there's two tents. I'm guessing Kiara, Pope and JJ are in tent one because I'm in tent two and all that's in tent two is an officer watching me and a row of computers. They're turned off but I can still tell that this tent is a precaution, just in case they need to call in for more man power. For a teenager.
I'm sitting on a chair that has been pulled out of a computer desk. It's uncomfortable and I'm becoming more irritable the more I sit and do nothing. This also probably has to do with me being separated from my friends, but I don't care. I'm taking out my anger on this poor officer, who is seriously not doing anything, other than his job.
"I want to go." I grumble, crossing my arms over my chest.
The officer turns to me and rolls his eyes. "Anything else, madam?" His sarcasm is even more annoying than his voice.
"Yeah, your mom's number." I spit bad, acting very juvenile. I guess JJ has really rubbed off on me.
"Just sit still. Your parents should be here soon. Then you can go home." The officer says, one arm forward. He's trying to calm me down but it's not working. It's actually only making me even more pissed.
"I don't want to go home." I angrily mumble. "I need to see my friends."
The officer chuckles. "Not happening, sweetheart."
I roll my eyes. "Don't patronize me buddy." I had no idea where this arrogance was coming from. I was intimidated by the police but now, after all that I've been through, I could care less.
"Listen kid -" The officer is about to start on me, probably about respecting authority and your elders but he doesn't get the chance. Walking through the tent to meet me is the fed I saw from before, my parents, Ward, and Rafe.
I get up instantly. "Stay away from them!" I say, grabbing my mom and dad and standing in front of my parents.
I block them from Ward and Rafe, who are now face to face with me. For the first time since Peterkin's death, I'm looking Ward dead in the eyes. He looks back, very arrogant for someone that's guilty and surrounded by cops. But I guess it pays to be Ward Cameron; everyone believes you're good all the time.
"Callie," my mom cried, pulling me away from Ward and hugging me. "We were worried sick."
My dad hugged me and my mom. This is the first time I've seen them embrace in months. Its sad to think me going missing has brought them closer together.
"Once you get home, you're grounded." My dad says sternly, his eyes instantly softening. "But for now, we're so glad you're safe."
I'm happy to see them but I have to pull away. I have bigger things to be concerned about. I don't know if Sarah or John B. are okay, not to mention I have no idea how Kiara, Pope, and JJ are.
I look to the fed, glaring at him. "Where are my friends?"
I the fed nodded to his right. "They're in the next tent. I actually want to talk to you."
Ward's eyes widen. "Why? She's been clearly brainwashed by John B."
The fed looked at Ward. "It's just protocol.
My eyes widen now. "No!" The fed turns to look at me again. "I was there when Peterkin was shot. I know who did it."
My parents gasp. I look to them quickly and once I see their disappointed faces I have to look away. I feel a hand grab onto my arm. I look to my right and see it's Rafe. His eyes are filled with tears.
"Please Callie," he begged, "you don't know what you're doing."
I scoffed, ripping my arm away from his grasp. "I know exactly what I'm fucking doing. Get away from me." My anger is boiling over but I control myself. I have to do this for Sarah and John B. If they're not here to clear their names, then I will do it for them.
"Callie, I love you." Rafe chokes on his tears.
My hurt almost hurts for him. I swallow and the hurt is gone. "No." I say sternly.
Rafe nods quickly. "I do. I knew I loved you since you first said hello. We're so good together, we can go back to that place."
My mind goes to JJ. I feel his hand on my back and I remember his smile. "I don't love you Rafe. I don't think I ever did."
Love is supposed to make you feel giddy. Love is supposed to make you want to get out of bed. It makes you want to dance. Love is in the simple actions. Like, just talking for hours to them. Every kiss should feel like the first kiss. Every hug should feel like the first touch. I never felt that with Rafe; it was always more of an obligation. With JJ, it's natural. It's easy.
Rafe swallows, his tears sliding down his face. A year falls down his face. It's only one and he wipes it away quickly. Embarrassed, he then backs away, moving away from me.
I look to my parents. My mom is giving me a sweet smile. My dad, who always liked Rafe, seemed a little disappointed. I can't look at them any longer. Everytime I look at them, I feel very sad. I know I've let them down.
I look to the fed again. "If you let me see my friends, I'll do whatever you want."
The fed thinks for a moment and it's so silent in the tent. Then, he speaks, "Follow me." He tells Ward, Rafe and my parents to stay behind because it might cause too much drama. That's an understatement.
We both walk out of the tent, both staying silent. Finally, before we enter the first tent, he says one thing. "I believe you."
I am shocked. It feels so good for someone to say that to me. "Really?"
The fed nods. "You might not want to believe this but I am on your side."
As he says this, he pulls the curtain to the side and my eyes search for blond hair. This tent looks exactly like the other except there's just more people here. Dozens and dozens of officers walk and talk, doing god knows what.
Then I see it. Blond hair. It's JJ.
My heart bursts with joy. "JJ!"
JJ hears me over all the commotion and turns around, looking for me. Once our eyes lock, butterflies erupt in my stomach. He's there. It's been three hours without him but it feels like more. It feels like an eternity.
Once I see the smile on his face, I start to run. I'm pushing past the officers and I'm not being polite. I tell them to move. JJ, funny enough, is doing the same. Once we're close enough, my arms reach out to him and he does the same. I'm hugging him so tight I think I might suffocate. He's hugging just as tight though. I can feel his heartbeat as his chest presses against mine and I smile even wider. Hearing his heartbeat and touching him makes this whole ordeal better.
"God, I missed you." I smiled, pulling away from him for a moment.
"I would too." He jokes but I know what he truly means. He missed me too.
I can't help it. Even if we're in front of all these officers and our friends, I still kiss JJ. He's kissing me back instantly. Each kiss is amazing. It's always like the first time. I don't think my heart will ever be able to adapt to how he makes me feel. I want to deepen the kiss but decide against it since we are in public.
I pull away. "Are Kiara and Pope okay?"
JJ nods. "They're here. How about you?"
I shrug. "Better now."
JJ reaches up to my brown hair and pushes it behind my ear. His hand rests on my cheek for a moment then he pulls away. "Callie, I -"
"Callie!" Kiara yells from behind JJ.
I let go of JJ and and run past him to her and Pope. I'm sure whatever he has to tell me, he can say later. I'm just so glad to see that they're alright.
I embrace Kiara and I can feel her smile on my shoulder. "I'm so glad you're safe."
I smile back, still hugging her. We don't say anything for a few moments and then we finally let go of each other. Pope is now beside her, his arms out for me. I'm smiling so wide now. He was very apprehensive at first but now we're friends.
Once we hug, he speaks, "I'm glad too."
"Sorry to break up this reunion," the fed speaks from behind me. "But we need your help."
I let go of Pope and turn to the fed. I look at JJ. He's glaring at the fed. I walk to JJ and pat his shoulder, trying to calm him down. I know he doesn't trust this fed but I'm starting to. It might be naive but what other choice do I have?
"And why should we trust you?" JJ bitterly asks, Kiara and Pope nodding along with him.
I can see Deputy Shoupe behind the fed and I want to roll my eyes. He's listening in on our conversation and since he's such an ass, he speaks up before the fed has a chance.
"Because we want John B. and Sarah to live."
That grabs all of our attention. The fed shoots Shoupe a glare but he doesn't get a chance to say anything because JJ is already in his face.
"What the hell are you talking about?" JJ spits back.
I'm holding onto his bicep, trying to pull him away from the Deputy. JJ looks like he's ready to fight and that's the last thing I want. "JJ..."
He looks to me. His face softens and he backs up a little, standing beside me again. When he loosens his arms and lets them fall to his sides, I grab ahold of his hands.
"What Deputy Shoupe means," the fed says slowly, shooting Shoupe one last glare before looking back to us, "is that right now John B. and Sarah are on a boat, headed into a storm. They won't make it through the storm."
How did Sarah get on the boat with John B.? Did he stops to pick her up? I don't know and honestly don't care right now. My only priority right now is to make sure John B. and Sarah are safe.
"What do you need us to do?" Kiara asks, speaking up for the first time. I look to her and I can instantly read her face. She's so worried.
The fed sighed. "I need you to go on the radio and tell them to turn their boat around."
Once we all heard this, there was an uproar from all of us. That was not an option. The second John B. and Sarah's boat hit solid ground we all knew that the police would arrest them. This was their plan all along. The storm was a perfect setup. Sure we might save them from the storm, but we wouldn't be saving them from the police.
"Yeah, so you can arrest them the second they get here." Pope angrily spit back.
"Fuck off." JJ says, rolling his eyes.
"They will die if you don't do this." The fed argued, looking to me. "You really want your friends to die?"
That was it. This time, I wasn't gonna let this fed blame us. If he had done his job correctly, we wouldn't even be in this situation.
"How dare you try to blame us." I said coldly. Everyone looked to me, shocked. Even Shoupe seemed surprised that I had taken such a tone with a federal officer.
"I'm not -" The fed tried to explain. I wouldn't let him.
"No, you are." I looked to JJ. His smirk was what made me continue. "If you had done your job properly we wouldn't even be in this situation. If any of you just stopped and listened, John B. and Sarah wouldn't be on that boat headed towards that storm. But you won't listen and I don't know why. Is it because we're teenagers? It doesn't matter because we're not helping you arrest our friends."
It was silent for a moment as everyone processed my words. Even I had to process my words. I can't believe I had just said that. Maybe going through all of this gave me the confidence I needed. After a minute, JJ was the first to speak up.
"We're not gonna help the people that never helped us."
I looked to JJ, a frown on my face. I knew what he meant. It has been years and years and still, no officer ever helped him with getting out of his dad's house. I'm sure people knew what was going on. Most of the town did. They just chose to do nothing. Why should he want to help them now. JJ looked back at me, giving me a half smile. I knew he was trying his best to not show how upset he was with Shiupe and the fed and I wanted to kiss him for being so brave.
The finally responded by nodding and saying, "If you won't help us, then someone else will."
I heard Pope scoff from behind me. "Yeah? Who's gonna help you?"
That's when I saw him. Entering the tent, a face full of fake concern for his daughter, was Ward Cameron.
Shoupe smirked and pointed to Ward. "He will."

When your crush is angry all the time
Ch.4
I wanna be an intern too, you ragedy ann looking ass hoe 😠

Y/n pov
°•○●○•°•○●○•°
All goes well when you are ignorant is what my dear best friend would say to me now, as I sit in the very back of the class unfocused on how our teacher is introducing an activity I have no chance of participating in. All I knew was that when Mr. Aizawa walked up to the board and wrote names of people getting offers, I wasn't one of them. Not that I expected to be, considering I wasn't in the sports festival, let alone the school at all back then.
However, I did notice a small inconsistency in the order of the most offers. I was pretty sure that boom boom had gotten first place in the festival, him being there is what convinced me to transfer, but his name was actually second on the board.
Todoroki had taken the place of first as far as offers were concerned. Todoroki the nice boy who I used to meet when I snuck away from my fucking prison cell. Call me privileged for complaining about living in a mansion All my life, but I much prefer being here. With common folk. They ground me.
I peeked up from my phone at the red and white head of hair in front of me, he didn't seem all that fazed. Although maybe it was just the lack of seeing his face that made me believe he couldn't care less about all but one of those offers. Still, his business is his, and my business is the new Ao3 update on my favorite chrollo lucilfer fanfiction. What a babe.
I decided that the class as of right now would be of no importance to me, considering I will have no offers, and bakugou-the reason I came here- hates me like I'm a piece of gum stuck under his shoe. Through that conclusion I allowed myself to dissolve into the world of hxh and forget about how boring this world is.
Could my power beat Killua or go in a fight? I mean, it doesn't enhance my strength like they did trying to get into Killua's house so physically they must be stronger.
"Y/n! Is there something you would like to share with the class?"
Mr.Aizawas voice seemed almost shot at me as my gaze rose from my phone in my lap to meet him at the front of the room. He looked displeased to say the least. Well good for him, im displeased too, I might not be able to beat a fucking twelve year old in combat.
"Huh?"
"You were grumbling, what's so important you had to tell us, hm?"
I thought it through for a second- just kidding, I never think anything through.
"Oh, well I wasn't sure if I could beat Gon in a fight, but I'm not coming to the realization that if Chrollo is my boyfriend, I shouldn't have to fight anyone at all. I can just be a pretty face in the backgrounds and then after he wins for me i'll suck his-"
"Enough, y/n." Mr.Aizawa no longer held a tired looking face, his eyes were wide and an uncomfortable cringed was set on his face. As I peered at the rest of the class many also had shocked eyes, but unlike our teacher, held faint blushes.
Minus midoriya, his face was completely red and his eyes void of life. I must've killed him, huh.
"Wait!"
In an attempt to regain some dignity, I tried to correct myself.
"I would....not suck his-?"
"Don't even say it, shitty princess !"
"Woah bakugou, you spoke to me on purpose!?"
"Shut up!"
"Hey, how come you call me princess, you like me or something?"
He growled at that, neither of us paying mind to the fact that everyone in the class was either dead from nosebleeds or extremely uncomfortable and staring at us.
"Its cuz you act fucking entitled like a princess"
"I'll be your pillow princes-"
"Enough!" A robotic-like hand sliced the air in front of me. The voice sounded firm, almost more teacher-like than our teacher's voice. I followed my gaze up the hand, not failing to notice how as I drew up the guy's arm his muscles only seemed to get bigger and bigger and- iida?
"Oh class rep-"
"Y/n this vulgar language and border-line harassment needs to cease immediately. I will not tolerante overtly sexual language and acts in this class-"
As he was speaking I noticed something ironic about the situation. If everyone here didn't like sexual jokes or banter, how were they so flustered at comments that objectively should be unknown to them.
"How did you know what I meant, iida?" I rasped in a low sultry voice, allowing my fingers to dance up his arm starting at the wrist in front of my face.
I heard a few chuckles from, who I would say are the only two people enjoying this situation: kaminari and...stinky mineta. Iida's face grew more red than previously and the arms in front of me began shaking.
"Mr.Aizawa it seems I've disarmed the robot. Is there a restart button or something?" I question with a serious face using the search as an excuse to wonder my eyes all over his body. Perverted? Yes. Rightfully attracted to this giant hunk of a nerd. Yes ×10.
"No, there is not." Todoroki, who was in front of me, finally turned around to address me. I guess he was unfazed by my words. Looks like someone here can be cool. Whether he is okay because he is more comfortable with sexual jokes, or because he has yet to pick up on them, its nice that somebody in here can still function. Otherwise, I'd feel like a nuisance.
"Y/n I'm not really sure how to- let's just say to have detention with your m- midnight. Detention. Yeah." Aizawa publicly convinced himself of my punishment?
"Okay"
"Now, back to this, even if you didn't get any offers ALL of you will have an internship"
And so went on the class, kids chose their hero names, not me though. I wasn't even sure I wanted to be a hero at all, this was just a little less boring and sad than the way I lived before. This school had people who laughed in joy, not just to mask the pain. That was the real benefit, not being a hero, or being strong. Likely no one here realized that there were many places where none of this joy was possible.
Some of the kids in class gave me suggestions for a hero name, but I didn't like them anyway. They lacked personality, and while I have many adjectives to describe my personality, my life, none of them are all that heroic.
"Dark element"
"Girl who will die if her quirk doesnt like its environment"
See, I'm not the best at this. Even bakugan names had some sense to it...well no. I'd say we're about the same, but still. Ugh.
~timeskip~
Bakugou pov 😠
She came up with no hero names. Fucking entitled brat. Everyone at this lunch table seems to have no problem with the fact that she is here, just happy to have another pair of tits to stare at like perverts. Their gross. I bet she doesn't even want to be a hero, she sure as hell doesn't act like it. We don't even know what her whole quirk is. Ive seen her do that plant shit a couple times, fucking with flowers or whatever. Still, there's more to it. Something we don't know, at least. Cuz in the middle of class she gets up and whispers to Aizawa and he just lets her go. Where the fuck does she go?
Interrupts class, got into the school because her moms a teacher, won't use her quirk. What a nuisance, I can't believe she is not expelled yet. Plus those bullshit sex jokes are so shitty. She is obviously faking something when she does them. Not like midnight, who always at least seems like she means that gross shit.
"Hey, who did you guys choose for your internship? I haven't chosen yet."
"The number three hero guy," I spoke, knowing I'm the only person here who already chose.
"Really? Best jeanist! That's so cool, but are you sure that for you bakugou?" Shitty hair raised a shitty brow at me.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean!?"
"Just that he seems pretty...uptight..for you?" Dunceface added, but he spoke like it was a question. Of course he is the hero for me, he is the highest ranting hero on my list. If I wanna be number one, I gotta train with the best.
If I go to his agency I'm sure there will be a lot more action, since he is so high ranking. Then i'll get some real experience kicking villain ass, well, other than the USJ.
"Of course he is the right option!"
"Woahhh~"
Shit. It's her voice. I honestly should applaud her for using it less often around me but, how can one small girl be so goddamn annoying. I don't even know what she has to say and I already wish she would just put a sock in it. How can someone so entitled like her, probably never had to lift a finger, walk over here and talk like she has something to say.
"You're working with the best jeanist! So cool, one time he saved me from a group of rapist guys, it was awesome with all these strings everywhere and I could only see half of his face. Oh and he had goofy hair too!"
Oh. I didn't really know how to respond to the girl who looked so excited about almost being violated. Another thing wrong with her? I looked back at the other people at the table to see if they knew how to respond to something like that.
Dunceface was frozen, tape arms were frozen, shitty hair was frozen, and alíen eyes were looking like a lost puppy and trying not to cry.
It didnt seem like the shutty princess was exactly understanding how what she just yelled was making things weird. She just stood there expectantly. She kinda looked like she thought being raped was something that must happen to everyone. Did she think that? Wouldn't put it past her weird ass.
"Uhm...anyways, i'm sure you'll do awesome, he likes to put boys in tight jeans. Wish I could intern too, I'd love to see that boom boom~" she winked.
A perverted joke...and then she had the audacity to wink at me.
"You wish you could see me in tight jeans, shitty extra!"
"I know...thats what a I just said." She dead panned, blinking a couple times at me.
"Tch, screw you!"
"I would-"
"Can it, i don't wanna hear your shitty voice anymore"
The girl stopped herself after my words, pushing all her hair behind her head, except for the two blond stands in the front.
(You don't have to acknowledge these if you don't want, but I made it so that they change color depending on what element your using and I thought it was hot*if you have short hair, then you just got a lil nishinoya type thing 🥰)
Lifted her obnoxious hands that moved around while she talked and made a zipper-like motion over her lips. Then she just stood there looking at me. I really wanted to just let her stand there and go back to eating. Ignore her completely and let her hope fizzle out and die or something like that.
Yet here I am, still looking at her. Silently. Wishing she made a stupid joke so that I could stop flickering between those images I'd seen of her dancing. How even though ballet is a princess fucking dance, the pictures felt nice. Like if I was watching it live I would probably be unable to criticize it. That pissed me off, because I want to hate everything about her, but I can't hate those photos. Where she looks like she is flying, without any need for a quirk.
I see her in that weird gown, and now, in the UA uniform. I see her looking respectable, formal, and serious. Then I see her stupid little smirk as she takes pride in being able to shut up for more than a minute.
"Why are you still standing there?"
Instead of answering, she took her hand up again, made a pinch with her fingers and unzipped her mouth.
"I was enjoying the look in your eyes."she smiled.
The look in my eyes? Could she tell I was seeing two different people? What the hell does that even mean? Even said it without that shitty flirt voice. Like she meant it.
"You tryna make fun of me?"I stood up from the table to get in her face.
"Not right now, maybe later, I gotta do something." She smiled sincerely at me, for a second as she walked away, I forgot about how this conversation started. What a wierd fucking girl. I'll never respect her as a hero. Tch. (Yes, its canon he tchs even in his thoughts)
3rd person POV
Y/n briskly walked out of the cafeteria with a new goal in mind. She would come to remember how maybe being oblivious was a benefit in some ways, but for now, she had a clear plan .
"Mr.Aizawa, let me do an internship."
"You weren't in the festival, I can't just hand you to a hero who has no idea what you can do, y/n."
"Well, you know what I can do, right?"
"No. I'm not doing internships. Stop asking."
"That's not what I meant! You can just tell them, or I could, it's not that hard to explain. Just say i'm all- powerful or some play on words like 'she's got all the right elements' hehe, see how i mimicked your voice there?" Y/n grinned like a child. She was proud of herself.
"No. Still not happening."
"I wanna be an intern too, you raggedy ann looking ass hoe"
"Y/n, it doesn't make sense, insulting me to get what you want?"
"Maybe it doesn't, but I bet you feel real insecure about your hair right now."
"You already have detention, what more do you want!"
"An internship, I wanna do one with kamui Woods, I have a good reason, too. As far as my quirk control, i'm the weakest with earth, the aspect that allows me to grow and manipulate plants and stuff. That's why I've only been using that part of it all month. Im trying to get her up to speed so I can start using all four at once. He is like a tres guy, right? He manipulates earth all day long. He could teach me a lot, and that aspect of my quirk would suit his well. Please!?!?!?"
If the girl had just asked again in a normal way, his answer would have been the same. However Aizawa was taken aback to hear how much thought she put into this. From the stories of the teachers lounge, he came to understand her big life goal, was to rely fully on a rich man or woman, and do nothing at all forever. Just to try and forget about the terrible life she was destined to have because of that quirk.
This side of her was something he could not even her mother had seen, and it prompted him to speak those words she wanted to hear so badly.
"Fine."

Old Friends
pairing: Jung Hoseok x reader genre: fluff, comedy, slight drama high school crush au and there’s a Hoseok vs y/n rap battle in there, somewhere word count: 6k warnings: just some passionate kissing, oh and shirtless Hoseok;)
Description: Hoseok is your high school friend that you had a different kind of relationship with. You run into him, after many years and rekindle your friendship. Then he takes you to your high school reunion and claims you as his girlfriend. But it’s only an act. Right?
A/N: EGO IS OUT!! I can’t get enough of it, or enough of J-hope. Hence, this oneshot. I gave this my all and had fun reading it back so I’m hoping it’s not shitty. Pls let me know what you think of it. Also I changed the way I write and reffered to the reader as ‘you’ for this one- idk i wanted to try it. If you guys have prefferences you can let me know. I hope you like it. Enjoy!
It's official, you hate summer. Sure.. school's out, no more chasing after professors or migraines lasting for weeks. But goddamn it it's hot and humid. It's like trying to breathe in a sauna, which you hate. Plus, the sun is like a deadly laser. Normally you love strolling through this street. Glancing at cute little stores and admiring street artists as you walk by. Not today, though. Not while feeling like all the water in your body is gonna evaporate any second.
You notice a little crowd up ahead, a half circle. And the sound of a groovy beat captures your attention. You might've stopped and joined the crowd just for the captivating music, if it wasn't for the torturous heat. In this instance you'll settle for only a glance at whatever show is going on inside that half circle.
That's until you see the street dancer there and you stop dead in your tracks. Someone is crazy enough to dance in this heat. Someone manages to look like the greatest performer alive despite the sweat covering his body and the fact that he's probably about to pass out. That someone is Jung Hoseok.
Before you can do anything else, you realize just how much better he’s become. And he was already an amazing dancer the last time you saw him. Back in high school, that is. Hobi the bubbly, cheerful dancer that dominated talent shows every year. Hobi who you occasionally helped pass chemistry. Hobi who could actually also sing, a fact only you knew about him of all the kids at your school. Because you’d spend most of your time in the music room, usually all by yourself. But one time, you caught him sitting alone and singing in there and after that, he’d visit you every so often. In return, he was the only one that knew you composed songs.
It’s been three years since graduation and your last conversation with him. But right now, he’s standing right in front of you. No, he’s dancing. The music ends in time with his final move and the mini crowd goes wild. As he catches his breath, most people leave money in his hat on the floor. You hope they’re being generous. Rightfully so, that was one hell of a performance.
You contemplate on whether you should say hi or not. The introvert in you decides you shouldn’t but before you can turn around to leave, you make eye contact with Hoseok.
“Y/N?” he asks.
“Hey, Hoseok.”
And he smiles. Despite how exhausted he must be, he gives you a whole cheekbones lifted, classic Hobi smile.
“You were amazing. But how did you not faint dancing in a weather like this?” you ask, smiling back.
“Come to think of it, I do feel like blacking out.” he says in between his panting.
You panic and go closer to him quickly. “I can take you to the hospital-”
“I’m kidding, Y/N.”
Did you maybe miss his mischevous ass? You both giggle.
“How about taking me to an icecream shop to catch up, instead? It’s been so freaking long. If you don’t have any plans, I mean.”
Your plan is going home, opening the refrigerator door and standing in front of it. So they’re skippable for an old friend.
“Let’s go before you deteriorate.”
You take him to the closest icecream shop you know and the shop has great air conditioning, thank god. Hoseok sits down and you feel as though he won’t be able to get up and order. Despite the smiley and bright facade of his, his body seems to be worn out. So, you take the liberty to order for both of you.
As you wait in line, order and wait for them to prepare it, you think about what you wanna say to Hoseok. Regardless of how much time has passed, you notice how you still get a little nervous with him around. It used to be like that in high school, too. You could never really look him in the eyes while he was speaking with you. You wouldn’t be intimidated. You’d just be kinda.. overwhelmed.
You take the cups and make your way to the table. Hoseok’s eyes light up, he seems content with your choice. He also looks better now, the cool air of the shop must’ve helped.
“What’re the odds of us meeting like this? Just on the street?” he initiates conversation.
“Well, I’m not exactly surprised to find Hope on the streets.”
“You remember my stage name?” He looks geniunely surprised.
“How can I possibly forget crowds of people going crazy, cheering J-hooope?”
That makes him shy, you think. With him averting his eyes to the ground. You’d hear those cheers often, back then. Hoseok was known as ‘J-hope’ and his act ‘Hope on the street’ was very popular. Everyone in Gwangju High would come to watch him perform, including you. It really is a bit strange how you ran into each other randomly on a street in Seoul, you think. You both had dreams of moving to Seoul as teenagers and had told each other about it. But neither of you knew if the other actually made it there. Until now.
"Did you move here right after graduation? I remember you talking about wanting to persue music here at University of Seoul." he says with his eyes on his icecream. He remembers your dream.
"Yeah, I had to get out of there. I moved here even before knowing if the university had accepted me. Thankfully, I got in. What about you? When did you come here?"
After he takes a spoon of the good stuff, he takes his eyes off from his cup and connects them with yours. It happens so suddenly that you almost blush. You're able to hold it in, though. Barely.
"I kinda wanted to wait until my work at the dance academy was done. So, after two more years at Gwangju, I finally transferred here, to National University of Arts just at the beginning of this semester."
You're glad to see him not giving up on dancing because he's so talented for it that it isn't like anything you've seen before or after you've known him. When he dances, it's like whatever music he's moving to actually finds form in him. And when he's not dancing, the way he moves around, walks, talks still somehow appears artistic.
But then, you realize you've been staring at him, lost in your train of thoughts. And he must've noticed because one corner of his mouth curves upwards a little, forming an almost smirk. This time, you can't stop your cheeks from turning red. Fuck.. What's wrong with you? It's been years since you've even seen his face. Why the hell did you just turn into a teenager, all over again?
"How's music school? Did you drop any albums I'm missing out on?" He asks and his eyes go back to his icecream. You can breathe normally again.
"I think school is always a pain in the ass. Even if it's about music." is your reply. You both laugh.
"I couldn't agree more."
Normally you have a hard time talking about yourself with others. But when it comes to Hoseok, it's different. Because that kinda used to be your relationship back in the days. Talking to each other about stuff you wouldn't with others.
"I've been working in a studio a friend of mine opened and we're working on some stuff but.. I can't seem to finish anything I start so, no. I haven't really been productive." you add with a frown. There're lots of things you don't like about yourself and being a procrastinator is one of them.
Then, a hand is placed lightly on yours that was resting on the table. It's Hoseok, holding your hand and looking at you warmly. "Nah, I'm still pretty sure we're gonna hear your stuff on the radio, soon." He looks like he geniunely believes that. All you can do is smile back in appreciation.
Time goes by as you talk about all kinds of stuff. You learn he lives at the student dorm but he's not exactly happy about it and wants to find a new place to stay. Also that he's giving dance lessons to earn some extra cash. You tell him about Yoongi, that friend of yours who owns a studio and how he's looking for someone to move in, after his flatmate moved away. You promise to have the two meet each other and see if they can become roomates.
Hoseok suggests to exchange numbers but it turns out both of you haven't changed them since high school, so you both have the other in your contacts. And you say goodbye shortly after, agreeing on hanging out again, soon.
By the time you get home, it's already evening and you're a little hesitant to open up the door and greet your roommate, Namjoon. Because you promised him that you'd watch that philosophical movie you can't remember the name of together. But you were supposed to do that about two hours ago. You decide to just go in and explain how you ran into an old friend and got held up. Namjoon'll understand, right? You go inside but see that nobody's home, so you call him.
"What's up ditcher?" is how he answers the phone and you can't blame him, really.
"I'm so sorry Joon. I wanna make it up to you but.. where are you, exactly?"
"Yoongi's."
"Okay, don't move." You hang up the phone and go straight into the apartment across the hall from yours. Yoongi has already opened the door before you can knock. You make for the living room and spot your roommate there. Just as you're about to explain, you also spot credits rolling on the tv screen and finished popcorn bowls.
"Wow, you watched Waking Day without me?" you complain. And Namjoon is quick to respond.
"It's Waking Life and yes, since you were a no-show."
"But you didn't even leave me popcorn."
"What're you saying? There's some left right here." Yoongi is the one who hands you one of the bowls.
"There are literally only three kernels here."
"Well, that's what ditchers get." Yoongi is just as merciless as Namjoon.
"But what if something happened to me on my way back-" you try the approach of pulling on their heartstrings but both of them whip their necks back and look at you in extreme worry, so you decide not to mess around. "Okay, okay. I encountered an old friend and lost track of time catching up. But maybe we can watch another movie and I'll make the popcorn, huh?" You wear a guilty grin on your face.
"Nope. You should take a seat and tell me about this friend that made you ditch me."
You sit down in between the guys on the couch, but you're facing Namjoon and telling him about Hoseok. Yoongi only sees your back and he's just so done with you, as always.
"You guys have a house exactly symmetrical to mine across the hall. Why the hell are you always here? I know it's not to see me, you're not even looking at me." It's a mix between ranting and whining. Both you and Namjoon know he's doing it to get attention.
"Because your couch is comfier." says Namjoon.
"And you have a piano." you add.
"You have a keyboard!"
"My keyboard is no upright piano."
Yoongi gives up with a huff. But you attack him with tickles until he gives in and giggles, all the while trying to get rid of your hands.
"By the way Yoongs, you're still looking for a roommate, right?"
"Yeah, why?"
"The friend of mine from Gwangju I was catching up with, Hoseok, is looking for a new place. I want to introduce you guys."
"Sure. What can you tell me about him?"
You pause because there're lots of things you can say about him. But those are all about the high school Hoseok. You wonder how many of them changed and how many stayed the same. You're sure of some things, though.
"I can tell you that he's a great guy and a dedicated artist, a dancer. Also he's funny and a mood maker."
"Alright. You should bring him over."
"Great! I will."
You wake up to your phone buzzing repeatedly. First thing you do is check the time and your clock on the wall is striking 11:30 in the morning. You overslept, great. It makes sense after you convinced Namjoon to binge watch Death Note before going to bed. But you ended up sleeping on the couch. The fact that you're in your bed right now means Namjoon carried you there.
3 unread messages from Hoseok.
-Morning, Y/N.
-Are you free today?
-I wanna treat you to some coffee.
It's been three to four days since the time you ran into Hoseok and you've been meaning to reach out to him to hang out but he just beat you to it. You thank the god for his extrovertedness.
-I'm taking care of some stuff in the studio today.
-But you can visit me there and if I'm finished quickly we can even hang out later, too.
-If you'd like, of course.
You press send and for some stupid reason your heart races a little fast. Were you being too forward? He just said coffee, maybe he meant a quick get together. You just asked him to wait for you in a studio, possibly for a couple of hours.
Two more buzzing.
-Sure! I'll make sure to help out so you can finish faster.
-Text me the time and the adress when you can.
You sigh in relief. But now it's time to be nervous about how you'll be alone with him there for a long while. Not that it makes you uncomfortable. You just feel that overwhelming feeling of him being around returning. You hope to at least not act like an idiot.
You make your way to the studio and text Hoseok the location, saying he could drop by whenever he'd like. Yoongi told you to listen to some demos for him but you leave that for last. For now, you're setting up some instruments and tuning them up for the band arranged to record tomorrow. But the bell rings and you sprint to answer the door.
"Hi!" you greet him.
"Hey." Hoseok says with a bright smile. He holds up the bags in his hands. "I brought food and icelattes."
"Which makes you a hero. Come in."
You eat and drink your coffees as you talk about stuff. Then, you play a recording of a guy who did an awful cover of Smelly Cat a few days ago. It makes Hoseok laugh so hard that he tumbles out of his seat and falls towards you. You knew it was a habit of his but you had never been the person he falls over to, before.
He helps you get the rest of the things done after that and surely him giving you a hand speeds up the process. For the last thing, you call him over to listen to the demos.
"Wow, some of these are really good. Especially this one, I like the beat a lot."
"Yeap, me too. I'm showing this one to Yoongi, later."
Finished up with the things, you're getting ready to leave but you hear him beatboxing the beat he liked a while ago.
"You can beatbox?"
"Yeah, I picked it up not so long ago."
An idea pops into your mind. You take him by the arm, practically drag him back to the recording booth and hand him a mic.
"Get a beat going."
"Wha-"
"Just do it." And you run back to record him doing it. After that, you throw in some other instruments quickly. When you play the outcome, he smiles so hard.
"How did you just do that in such a short time, coming up with practically a song."
"You did it, too. You came up with a beat off the top of your head. That's the basis of songs, mostly."
He listens to it over and over. "Hey can I use this for when I do freestyle battles?"
"To dance over to? Sure! I'll work on it some more, though and perfect it."
He shys away a little. "Well, this would make a great dance track but.. I meant freestyle rap battles."
"You rap, too? Geez, is there any street art you're not talented in?" You're not that surprised, though. He always stroke you as swag in living form.
"I'm trying to get into it. I should improve if I wanna make a name for myself out on the streets of Seoul." he says half jokingly but it's true that the rap scene has become a major part of street competition, recently. You know from Yoongi and Namjoon who are also rappers.
You play the beat from the top. "C'mon, then. Let me hear a snippet."
"No, no I'm not really-"
"C'mon~ let's battle." you say to get him worked up a bit. Also, you picked up a few things from Yoongi and Namjoon over the last couple of years.
"Oh battle? Okay then, why don't you go first?"
Both of you try to control your laughter and you come up with some very stupid and childlike rhymes that make Hoseok laugh even harder.
"It's your turn, J-hope."
"Ooo~" he gets more fired up with the mention of his stage name. You're going back and forth rapping about the most random and funny stuff. But then you get bolder and want to go at him a bit, to get him more serious about this. Trying to remember embarrassing things he's done in high school, you throw in lines about the time he had to dance in his underpants in front of the whole school after losing a bet.
Also, there's this face you pull whenever you try to diss someone, something you picked up from Yoongi. But it looks funny on you and the boys always make fun of you about it. You're sure you're doing it right now, too out of habit. And you're not wrong because as soon as you're done, Hoseok starts and he mentions it.
Except, he says something along the lines of despite of you having that expression, he still doesn't feel like you're dissing him because of how beautiful you look even while pulling a funny face.
What? Did he just call you beautiful? In a rap battle?
You're in shock and aren't able to speak for a while. Which Hoseok takes advantage of. "You failed to come up with something in time, Y/N. I win." Then he boops your nose. He fucking boops your nose. What did you get yourself into?
It's the day you finally bring Hoseok to meet with Yoongi. It's been a couple of weeks since you guys started hanging out kinda on a regular basis and Yoongi finally had some free time. The three of you are sitting in Yoongi's living room and you're watcing them get to know each other. Everything seems to go well. The door opens and Namjoon walks in.
"Yo. Sorry I'm late."
"It's okay since you live far away. Oh wait, you live across the hall." Yoongi is quick to welcome him.
"At least I brought dessert."
The two boys go into the kitchen to get dessert ready to be served.
"That's my roomate Namjoon. He wanted to meet you, too." you inform Hoseok.
"Roommate? Wait- you live just next door?"
"Yeah."
"Why didn't you tell me sooner? I'd beg to Yoongi or something to get him to accept me!" he says with a smile. You're glad he's happy about the fact you might live next to each other.
"I think he already likes you. I'm pretty sure you got the room."
And you turn out to be right. Hoseok and Yoongi hit it off quickly and he moves in a couple of days later. You start spending even more time together since then. Both with the other boys around and just you two, alone.
This one time Yoongi gives you the day off, Namjoon is off to do a job interview and you've got absolutely nothing to do. So you go over to see Hoseok. You knock and ring the bell but loud music is coming from inside and he doesn't hear you. The door isn't locked, though and you just go in. When you get to the living room you see Hoseok practising, going really hard at it. There're sweatdrops on his face and his white shirt-now practically see through shirt-is stuck to his body, revealing the delicate structure of it.
Blood rushes to your cheeks and your heart is thumping but you can't look away. He's art, you think. Art that you can't get enough of. He finally notices you, which almost gives you a heart attack but thankfully he isn't uncomfortable with you being there.
"Hey- uh- phew." he tries to talk but needs a moment to catch his breath, first. "Y/N. Please tell me you've been standing there long enough that you saw my new moves."
You nod, still not completely out of your daze. "They were.." you trail off because he just casually takes his shirt off in front of you. "Can you pass me that?" he asks you to hand him over the towel on the chair next to you. You're on autopilot as you do so.
"So, what do you think?"
"Oh yeah- Umm.. it was awesome. Very captivating.."
"Thanks." he smiles brightly while walking closer to you. "I'm gonna take a quick shower. You wanna hang out, after?"
Right. That's why you came over, you remember. "Yeah, I'll be here."
Hoseok and you just hang inside all day. Not doing much but still managing to have fun. Yoongi comes home for a while but has to go back out again, so it's mostly just you two. In the middle of the night, you guys start watching a movie, planning to stay awake till morning but Hoseok's tired from practising earlier and dozes off, eventually. And you're famous for sleeping in front of the tv, so you quickly follow. Then, you two somehow get in a cuddly position in your sleep.
The next morning- or more like afternoon, you wake up to Yoongi slurping his coffee, seated right across from you. Hoseok's nowhere to be seen.
"Hey Yoongs, why am I still here?"
"Well, you obviously fell asleep in front of the tv again and Namjoon's strong arms weren't here to carry you to bed."
"Where is he?"
"Joon said he was staying at a friend last night, not wanting to get all soaked up in the rain. And Hobi woke up just moments ago and went out, saying he has to get ready for a gig."
You nod at him and get up. You're about to go back to your place to wash up but realize something suddenly.
"Since when do you call him Hobi?"
"Since when do you have a crush on him?"
Your eyes go wide with panic. "Wha- No way what're you say-"
"Do you think I'm blind? I can perfectly see it when two people are cuddling on my couch."
"We just fell asleep that's all-"
"I saw you two over at the piano, too. And in the kitchen a few days ago doing the dishes. And while dancing here in the living room for no reason. You can't look him in the eyes without going red and he can't take his eyes off of you."
There isn't much you can say to convince him otherwise because you realize that he's right. At first when you guys started hanging out again, you thought you felt butterflies because you kinda had a thing for him in high school. You paid it no mind thinking it'd fade away with time but it didn't. Your feelings only grew stronger and now you know it was visible to others.
What has you tensed up, however is the way Yoongi talks about the situation like it's both-sided. That's where you can't be sure. Because yes, Hoseok randomly calls you beautiful, takes you out for meals and spends entire days with you. But you don't know if he likes you like that or if he's just being friendly. Just like back in high school.
"Okay, yeah. He makes me feel a certain way. But there's nothing going on, we haven't even talked about it. I don't think he's into me like that."
Yoongi's brows furrow in confusion. "He was just asking me if anything was going on between you and Joon the other day, though."
He asked what?
"What?"
"Dude, he was obviously jealous and suspicious of the fact that you were roommates. And very close ones."
You did have a very close bond with Namjoon, just as you did with Yoongi. Yoongi's just involved less skinship and more serious talk. But Namjoon was the first person who friended you in Seoul and over the years he became your self proclaimed guardian angel. That was all.
"You didn't correct him?!"
"I tried but he seemed overwhelmed with confusion, I'm not sure if he fully believed me. Or fully listened? I dunno- I was kinda enjoying his little emotional crisis."
"Yoongs!"
"Fine! So yeah, maybe you should to talk to him."
How do you talk to someone about this? you wonder. And can Yoongi really be right about the possibility of him reciprocating your feelings?
You're reading a book on your couch. It's been a couple of days since your cuddly interaction with Hoseok and you haven't really hung out after that, either. You're not avoiding him, though. More like testing the waters. Namjoon's little squeal and sprint to the living room gets you out of your thoughts.
"Y/N! Oh my god!"
"Joonie what happened?"
"I got in." His smile is from ear to ear but you're not surprised he got the job he was going after for a while now. He happens to be intelligent beyond your understanding. But also a goofball. Because he -who usually treats books like his children- throws the one you were reading away and gets you up on his back. Now you're both singing victory songs as he gives you a piggy back ride.
Just then, Hoseok makes an entrance to your apartment, sees you two and his face visibly drops.
"Oh- sorry guys. I should've knocked-"
"Dude, it's okay. Think about our two apartments as one big house. You don't have to worry about knocking everytime. Come in!" Namjoon is being his friendly self as he puts you down. "I gotta go call my parents. Thanks for always believing in me, Y/N." He places a soft peck on the top of your head and goes back to his room. Uh-oh. You hope Hoseok doesn't misunderstand.
"How are you doing, Hobi?"
"I'm-" he hesitates for a while. "I didn't know you and Namjoon were.. are you? Y'know like together?"
"No!" you regret yelling but it just comes out before you can stop. "I mean, it's not like that. We're friends. In fact he kinda decleared himself my older brother."
The total grimace that had took over Hoseok's face starts to slowly dissappear. "Oh, okay. I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable like that-"
"No, no. Let's just change the subject." You want to move on from this before it gets awkward.
"Okay. Oh right! I came over to show you something."
He holds out his phone for you to see. It's an invite to an event. Gwangju High's high school reunion, to be exact. You also got one, too but immediately deleted.
"The reunion? You're going?" you ask.
"We should go."
You're about to protest but he cuts in.
"I know most of our year were jerks. But it's Gwangju. I know you miss it there. And high school wasn't all evil."
"It was the people who were evil, Hobi."
"That's why we have to show them their evil ways weren't enough to break us down."
"What do you mean, we? Everyone loved you!"
"The jocks hated me for being popular despite not playing football."
That was true. They sometimes gave him a hard time for grabbing the attention of girls more than them.
"Besides, we're grown ups. If they weren't able to mature, that's their problem. We'll just breathe in some hometown air and have fun."
You did miss home. And the fact Hoseok'll be with you eases your stress so you say yes.
Hoseok and you roam the streets of Gwangju, firstly. You tell him the places you missed most and you visit those. When the reunion evening closes in, both of you go to your homes to get ready. Your parents are sort of shocked you're attending the event but they won't complain because they missed you a lot and you haven't realized how much you missed them back till you finally came back after a long while.
Hoseok comes to pick you up and oh boy. He immediately recongnizes the dress you're wearing as the exact one you wore to prom. The light blue piece fits your body even more perfectly now, he thinks.
"This is your prom dress." It's not a question because he's certain.
You panic because well you wore it thinking nobody would remember since not a lot of people were paying attention to you during prom and you didn't have anything else decent enough in your old closet. How the hell does he remember?
"It looks even more beautiful." And with that, your panic is no more.
You get to the school finally and almost everyone is there. All trying very hard to look fancy, so Hoseok and you make fun of some of them before entering.
"It's J-hope!", "Hope's back!" and "Who is that with Hoseok?" are the comments you hear as you walk by. A few speeches are given, while you stuff your face with cupcakes. Then music's on and people start dancing.
Hoseok is approached by many and he kindly converses with them all. He forces you to speak from time to time, too. One of the boys who you used to tutor a lot, Hansung, tries to make a couple of moves on you. Probably under the influence of alcohol. You politely dismiss him but some other guys that came alone also are eyeing you from different places of the room. Hoseok is well aware and not okay with it, at all.
He slides a hand down your arm and links your fingers. When you turn to him in surprise, he pulls you closer. "Let's act like a couple."
"What-"
"I'm sick of people trying to see if you're available for them, aren't you?"
It is a bit disturbing. You bet most of them didn't even recognize you and are just looking for a prey for the night. "I am." you reply.
"Then just go with it."
So you do that but this time the girls start to get uncomfortable since most of them were eyeing Hoseok. And like clockwork, Gaeun appears with her gang of plastic girls. Gaeun used to be Hoseok's biggest fan. But all she actually wanted was to get into his pants just cause of how popular he was. Knowing this, you tense up. Her eyes hold such a suggestive look that you almost want to protect Hoseok from her.
As far as you know Hoseok has never indulged her like that back in school days. And he doesn't seem to be effected by the way she looks right now, either which can be described in two words: model legs.
"Hobi~" her irritating voice muses. "There're lots of girls wanting to dance with you tonight."
He takes his hand away from yours to claimingly grab you waist. "Sorry, ladies. My dances are all booked by this one, right here." He turns his head and places a kiss on your temple.
"I'm sure your date for the night won't mind if-"
"She's not just my date for the night. Y/N is my girlfriend." he cuts her off. Shock is evident not only on their faces but yours as well. The girls have to walk away awkwardly but what they think they're speaking among themselves is quite audible to you.
"There's no way. Y/N could never be enough for him. Just wait until the end of the night and see how he gets bored."
Hoseok didn't hear them. But you and some other people did. And you don't care what Gaeun says but her words get around fast and people are looking at you even more weirdly than before. Hoseok realizes your body tensing up.
"What's the matter?"
"I don't think people are buying that we're together. Especially after Gaeun started speaking to them."
He looks around to find that people really were looking at you suspiciously.
"Let's make it more believable, then."
He pulls you to the dancefloor and starts moving you to the rhythm. You've danced with him before but they were all silly ones, meant for fun. This one was serious. And your bodies were seriously close. But you just let him lead you, knowing that he knows what he's doing. After a while he figures that the music's ending so he twirls you around and finishes with a sudden dip.
You're back is resting againt his hand as you're leant back and Hoseok's face is so very close to yours. Some people clap and some don't but neither of you really care about the people watching anymore. Then he kisses you. He downright kisses you at the center of the dancefloor. It's passionate but gentle. He doesn't let go for a while but you've no clue how long it's been cause you're lost in the taste of him. Which is a thousand times sharper than the whiskey and a thousand times sweeter than the cupcakes.
He pulls you back up, finally parting your lips. "I think we got about enough attention. Wanna get out of here? We can go to the music room." he suggests. All you can do is nod cause you still can't form words.
You get there and it's the only place in this school that you've missed. You sit down on the piano seat and Hoseok pulls a chair next to you, it's like deja vu.
"You know the song you used to play, the one I liked a lot. River-"
"River flows in you." of course you remember.
"Yeah. I kinda tried learning that on the piano a while back."
"Show me."
He tries to play it and messes up some bits so you help him out. Then, your hands touch accidentally and you both freeze.
"Y/N-"
"Hoseok-"
You both try to speak at the same time and cut each other off, so you laugh. Hoseok goes for it again.
"Y/N. I wanted to ask you out so many times right here, as you'd play songs to me. Did you know that?"
You most certainly did not.
"I wanted to ask you to a dance at the prom, so bad. But you left before I could muster up the courage."
He turns to face you completely.
"I couldn't believe it when I found you again, like that. Everything I felt came back to me as we spent more and more time with each other. And when I got that invite.. I thought- Maybe I've been given a second chance, to do it right this time."
Your heart is racing so fast that you can hear it. Every word he said are things that you've been thinking. So you have to do it properly this time, too.
"So.. so, will you go out with-"
You crash your lips with his immediately and he responds in a flash. This time the kiss is much more deep and demanding. His hands travel down to your waist as you get up from your seat and move to his lap. He hums into your mouth and you try to take in every bit of the vibration from it before both of you pull apart, out of breath.
But he still looks at you with questioning eyes, as if you haven't just given him an answer clear as day. But he looks so cute that you entertain him.
"Yes, high school crush. I will go out with you."
He can finally smile again. Though, it turns into a smirk a while later.
"But will you go out with me?" you joke around, still sitting on his lap.
"I will go out with you so bad that it'll swipe you right off your feet."
As if he already doesn't..
....
