I may have posted 4 headcanons yesterday and one this morning but the grind never stops.
Ponyboy Curtis Headcanons
He loves reading but he can’t buy his own books often so he borrows them a lot
Two-Bit for sure has stolen one or two for him, probably as a birthday gift
Darry didn’t approve of it but it made Ponyboy happy so he kept it to himself
He is the one kid in his class who actually reads the books instead of skimming the book to find the answers
He never gets rid of gone with the wind and it moves with him wherever he goes. College, his first apartment, his first house. That copy is probably still laying around to this day
He goes to college for literature, I mean are we even surprised here
He becomes a English teacher at school not too far from Tulsa so he can visit his brothers on the weekend
He writes his own book one day about what happened that night. The book being the outsiders (duh)
He writes a few book but the outsiders will always be his favourite because it was a way that people would always remember Johnny and Dally
I’m going to move on to the neurodivergent headcanon otherwise this will turn into angst headcanons
Ponyboy is autistic like Darry but people picked up on it more easily
Soda is the one who picked up on it first and told his parents. Soda may of been 7 but he picked up on it
Reading and movies are his special interests (it’s me. I’m Ponyboy)
Even Darry says in the movie that all Ponyboy concentrates on is movie and books
He has a lot of sensory issues with food which is one of the main traits he shows
Luckily for Darry, most of his safe foods are cheap stuff anyway
Unluckily for Darry, after the fire is when his issues with food becomes worse because everything taste like baloney
It took over a month for Ponyboy to start eating like he used to and the day it happens his brothers are full of relief
Even Two-Bit and Steve are relieved when they come into Pony eating a massive slice of chocolate cake. Steve wouldn’t even care that he stole the last slice
He hates wearing long sleeves most of the time which is why he hardly wears a jacket despite being cold
One last angsty headcanon to finish this off
He visits Johnny and Dally whenever he can. He just sits there quietly or talks about what has happened since he last visited
“Darry met this nice girl. She fits right in with the gang. You guys would of loved her”
I swear with Ponyboy and Darry the autism headcanons just flow out of me

I'm Standing There On A Balcony In Summer Air
pairing [s] : the outsiders [boys] x reader
warning [s] : | just sum fun headcannons because I'm on vacation right now! I also feel like I based this off a beach vacation because why not..
a/n [s] : requests are open!!
Darry Curtis
— Listen, if anything, this is the one man that needs a long and nice vacation. Without his kid brothers, just him and his lovely soulmate. He gets maybe a week or two weeks of complete relaxation.
— I definitely see him as the type of guy to decline and tell you no whenever you surprise him with a beach house and a trip to a region other than Tulsa, Oklahoma. He'll probably tell you he needs to work, and a vacation is the last thing he needs.
— However, when he hits the soft bed and warm pillows that smell of the sea and relaxation, he's completely and utterly passed out. The soft waves that crash against the shore have him lousy and drunkenly walking around the beach house.
— He loves the warm sand and the water that cools him down. Darry holds you and thanks you the entire time for convincing him to relax for a week with you. Even with it, he can't help but call every day to check in on his brothers and their friends. It's almost unconscious, you swear, the way he rings in the house phone and talks for ten minutes of blabber.
— Okay, but seriously, can we fund a vacation for Darry? I think he needs it, desperately, before he loses it.
Sodapop Curtis
— Prettiest goddamn boy on the entire beach. You're surprised you're able to tell the difference from in-between his soft, ocean colored eyes and the washboard abs he's sporting as he whips up from the water and water drips down his back and abs. It gets you hot and flustered, but who can blame you? It's Sodapop Curtis.
— He definitely needs a vacation, not as much as Darry, but he's a close second. He has a sense of protection over his brother's so he does also stress over that. His job isn't as competitive or stressful as Darry's, so I don't believe it would be job related. I think he just needs a walk away from Tulsa for a bit, to get away from the yelling that Darry does and Ponyboy’s constant arguments he makes.
— I am completely convinced as soon as he gets in a quiet, relaxed, and warm environment; he's like a bag of sand. He's passed out and you aren't waking him up anytime soon. Sodapop is the type of guy to set an alarm and tell you he is watching the sunrise in the morning then sleeps through the loud clanging ringing on the side table, how? You aren't sure at all.
— I believe he thanks you in many other ways other than verbal. Whether it's taking you to a nice dinner after scraping up the money he has in his wallet, or buying you little necklaces to wear. He's so incredibly thankful for the trip and the thought that someone cares about him enough to spend hundreds of dollars to spend a week with him on vacation? How else are you supposed to thank the love of his life?
— All in all, where is my Sodapop Curtis to spend a week with to use as arm candy?
Ponyboy Curtis
— Ponyboy has spent years attempting to convince his parents and Darry to go on vacation. Their vacations’s consisted of driving to the next town over or visiting family. There hadn't been a big enough trip that he was able to get away for a bit. So, whenever you surprised him with tickets to your family's beach house on a family vacation? He is completely ecstatic.
— I think he fully acts like a kid for most of the vacation. In Tulsa, it's almost automatically that you cannot be the same. With the constant fighting and hatred between the Socs and Greasers, Ponyboy is stuck in the middle of a crisis. He cannot relax for the life of Tulsa. Whether that's his neck hurting from him repeatedly looking over his shoulder, or just his entire body hurting from the wrath of people who just didn't know him.
— However, on vacation, he's like a little boy again. Ponyboy doesn't feel worried about whether there is or there is not a Soc on his back getting ready to pounce. He sits the sand and plays with himself, making holes and seeing how long it takes him to jump into the splashing water. It's sweet really, the way you could've sworn his smile had gotten bigger.
— He definitely waits too long to eat his ice cream and it melts; I'm sorry but there's no way he chomps down his ice cream before it melts in his hand. Pony is a summer and winter boy, there's no in between. He loved the way the sun lays on his skin and he's relaxed, then in the winter, he's able to stay with his brothers’ and love them.
— If anything, he is so extremely thankful. He says it through the entire weekend and then goes back to thank your parents for deciding to take their child’s boyfriend alongside on the trip.
— He is so sweet. That's all your honor.
Two-Bit Matthews
— Two-Bit is the guy to bring to a vacation, except he doesn't relax. You swore he gets crazier. He's jumping on beds and stealing everything he possibly can. You're not sure why Two-Bit took a pillow, but he did. I think as soon as he hears you ask to go on vacation with him, he's cackling and jumping around and immediately calls his school and says that he'll be out for a week. You're not confident of why he even called, you're sure he has more absences than he does days he actually showed up.
— I think he would have so much fun. He can barely sleep and he's tossing and turning in the bed the entire night. However, he jumps up as soon as you ask if he'll watch the sunrise with you. Two-Bit walks down to the beach with you and is holding a towel. He drops it on the ground and he sits on it, as well as you. Two lets you lay on him, holding your hand and kissing him gently as you thank him for everything he's done for you. He protects you and makes sure you're alright. He's definitely surprised you're thanking him and he hugs you tightly and pulls you to the ground. “No thank you! Baby I love you so much for taking me to this!
— Two-Bit definitely found himself playing with a little boy and sand buckets after he helped the kid. It's sweet and it has you smiling ear to ear as the boy pulls his hand across the beach and they're racing with each other. He's like a puppy and he plays with everything he can find. He's the best brother, especially with his sister, but with any kid he's showing love and helping them out. He eventually comes back to you, out of breath and sweaty and sits down. His hair has no grease in it, so it's softly waved and long across his face.
— Two is sweet and kind the entire time. He's hugging and kisses you whenever you get to a beach-side dinner or you go buy a new swimsuit for either him or you. Two-Bit is holding you all day, you aren't sure if it's him checking you out or just holding you, but you still love it. He's completely grateful and he's thanking you every moment he possibly can. It's shared with kisses, hugs, and cuddling under the warm sun or the warm night on the beach.
— And now I must ask, where is my Two-Bit to go to the beach with?
Steve Randle
— Steve had only left Tulsa so many times. His parents barely recognized he was at the house most of the time. So either way, he would travel away from Tulsa and drive around. He visited some places around Texas as well as the rest of Oklahoma. So, whenever you surprise him with a trip to a place he mentioned of “dreaming” of going to, he sucked in a few tears and a big smile of his face.
— Whenever he gets to the place, he is overwhelmed with the quick change from Tulsa to where he went. He's quickly excited about the ocean and the crashing against the water. Normally, you would have made him get on a pair of shorts, but he decided to run in with his jeans hiked and rolled up his legs. He's laughing and smiling ear to ear with happiness. You follow his smile and watch him jumping and sliding across the waves. You're glad he's acting like a kid, expressing himself out of his shell.
— After he passed out on the beach, burning his skin, he laid on the soft white sheets as you had to rub cold aloe on his skin. When you ever attempt to mention him waiting a day to relax with the burn, he looks at you with a shocked look. “Why would you even say that?! Of course I'm going!” He still does and probably burns once more, even with a thick layer of sunscreen on.
— He's so incredibly thankful the entire time. Steve has some money saved up from the DX and decided to pay for all of the food and extra things at the vacation and tourist places. He doesn't tell you how much he has or how much anything costs. It's how he's thankful, he gives and gives and swears he doesn't need anything in return. Steve is so sweet, he holds you all day and just whispers about how happy he is to do this.
— He wakes up early in the morning to watch the sunset rise with you. The soft cold wind whipped through his ungreased hair. Steve is staring at the ocean and listening to the waves. He turns his head and kisses you gently and holds your hand. Then, he picks you up and throws you in the water: there's no in between. I apologize.
— Steve is actually one of my favorites.. he's so kind
Dallas Winston
— Dallas has never been on vacation. His dad doesn't care, and his mother passed away before she was able to take her young son on a trip. Dallas is fully able to leave Tulsa and go anywhere, but he has a connection to this town. His protection over Johnny Cade and Ponyboy Curtis and the rest of the gang is what keeps him rested at night. So for that reason, he was completely unsure about leaving. You reassured him it would only be a week, and that the boys would be fine. He anxiously packed and decided to go.
— Whenever Dallas arrives, I feel like he doesn't show full appreciation for the beauty of where he's staying. He checks out what's around the house, opening cabinets and drawers for anything that might have been left from past people. You have to pull him outside to stare off of the balcony at the sunset that's on the coast. Dallas never understood why Ponyboy and Johnny loved the sunset and rises, but now he does. He understands everything Pony talks about whenever you grab his hand and kiss him gently and say how thankful you are for him coming.
— Dallas doesn't fully understand how to thank you for taking him to something that he can't ever repay. You tell him he's fine and he doesn't have to pay back anything and how he's enough. He relaxes his mind and starts taking you to stores and the ocean. Dallas is sweet and kind whenever he doesn't have to be worried about making sure you're safe or the gang finding out how head over heels he completely was for you. Dallas is laying across your lap while your fingers run through his waved dark hair. He's almost asleep as he stares at the sunset with you.
— Dallas is very upset with the bed in the beach house. You try and get him to lay down and as soon as he puts his back on the bed, he immediately says he hates it. You're convinced that it's because of the ratty, hardly comfortable bed he sleeps on every night he has gotten used to. You have to let him practically lay on top of you in a last resort attempt to get him to sleep. He passes out a few minutes later, snores falling from his mouth and soft movements on his smile.
— Dallas gets knocked down from waves too much, ending up with him spitting out sand and salty water while complaining as you laugh at him. You're out of breath as he gets knocked down from a particularly hard wave and he screams. Eventually, he chases you further into the water and you hold onto him like a koala as he holds you just above the water. That's when he thanks you, a long salty tasting kiss and a smile ending it. It's sweet and gentle, almost everything Dallas shows that he's not. Unless he's with you, he's dropped the guard he holds up to scare people away.
— Dallas eventually grows to love vacations, and even says he wants to take the boys to where you were staying. It makes you smile about the way he cares about them so much. You tell him that he's like a Beach Boy in his swim shorts and wavy hair. He doesn't enjoy being compared to The Beach Boys whenever he's a hard-headed and mean Greaser. All in all, Dallas is someone who grows to love anything he can stick his head too. As well as his hatred for carrying bags up sand dunes after leaving the beach, he doesn't love that very much.
— Bring Dallas to the beach, please.
Johnny Cade
— Johnny had never been out of Tulsa. His parents barely had enough money to keep the lamps on so they could see where they would argue and yell. He admittedly would remember nights when he was younger, staring at the stars and thinking about jumping across them and falling into a place where it was complete relaxation. So, when you surprised him with the trip for his seventeenth birthday, he cried and sniffled in your arms while thanking you. It was bittersweet and you couldn't help but tear up at his happiness for a week trip.
— Johnny is a little tourist bug. He's clad in a sweatshirt with the city across his chest. His sunglasses are covering his eyes as he walks down the palm tree-sided road. The sunset that flows throughout the town is absolutely beautiful and you can't help but clip a picture with your polaroid that you snuck into the trip. He just turns the second the click goes off, so you get a slightly blurry picture of Johnny smiling at you with his eyes on you. It's a picture you keep in your jacket pocket that reminds you of everything you have.
— Johnny is absolutely obsessed with the beach house. He's walking around with his hands in his pockets as he looks at everything it has. He tells you the small things he noticed, like the turtle design the wallpaper has or that the balcony has a different look than other ones. It's sweet how he tells you everything he notices, it reminds you of how grateful he is for even being able to leave Tulsa, but to go to a place he's been dreaming about is a totally different feeling.
— Johnny absolutely loves the beach. He digs holes and sits in them. You have to remind him to reapply sunscreen, but even with that, his soft cheeks turn a gentle red and his shoulders get a sunburn. The ocean is his favorite place, he doesn't care about the salt water that gets in his mouth or splashes into his eyes. He feels completely free and everything bad in his life gets taken away out from the shore. He collects seashells and screams whenever a fish slides against his foot and runs away.
— Johnny has already expressed his gratefulness with his constant telling you how happy he is because of the trip. He buys you a small friendship bracelet that connects with a heart magnet. He gets blushy and mushy inside when you tell him it'll never come off your wrist. As I've already said, Johnny loves walking through the tourism stores and picking up every turtle and keychain and messing with it. He does his hardest to make the most of the trip with you and shows he's happy for it. He believes he doesn't deserve it, if he had to be honest. He had only done so much for you, but with his fears crowding his feelings it was hard.
— Johnny lies with you on the sand and stares at the stars after the sun sets on the horizon. He swears they're brighter than in Tulsa, but you think you can barely see a difference. His hand is holding onto yours while you share stories with each other. He tells you things he's never told anybody with soft sniffles and laughs. It's romantic and just the thing Johnny needed. It's everything he needs, the sound of the waves that crash across the shore and the sea salt smell that lies in everything he owns. That's had been the night Johnny told you that you were written in his stars for forever.

do you feel like the writing as a whole for s2 of Tulsa King has been off so far? It seems to have a very different vibe from s1 and I think there's been a few continuity errors....
In a way, yeah? It is kind of hard to put into words but I am gonna try 🤣
The first season had this energy to it, a man rolls into town who doesnt take no for an answer and fixes your problems. Dwight is not a common man, he does things the old fashioned way, he isnt familiar with the grit of rural life. It was interesting to watch him learn, to see how a square peg was forced into a triangle slot because he made it, and how it worked. Our rag tag found family believed in him.
I had hoped for more growth with him and Tina tbh. She went from a rage filled eldest daughter to immediately being a daddy’s girl. He literally GOT ARRESTED, Tina’s biggest fear, and it was not addressed.
Mitch, lovable retired cowboy bar owner is now some slick talking guy who wants to buy a used car dealership? Last season Mitch seemed to be the kind of guy who would still charm you, but not with the exaggerated flattery last episode. It just felt kinda weird.
I also want more Grace tbh, home girl pulled UP last season showing up for the shoot out. She went all in and that deserves recognition. Plus I kind of love her- I think she is a kickass character. Also, Tyson’s dad being okay with Dwight staying in his house? Felt weird. Tyson still living at home when he mentioned he got a place last season?? It feels like they didn't expect a second season and had no plan to incorporate growth from the first.
Idk. Paramount, you cannot give us these characters that are complex and relatable and imperfect and then switch it up or make fundamental changes without an explanation. Armand’s plot makes sense to me- and kudos to his wife. Bohdi, my darling angsty computer dork, keep being you.
It is giving very “we have a new team of writers” vibes which I have no idea if this is the case but it just feels different.
Sorry if I am making no sense, I have a lot of thoughts obviously.
#mitch keller#tulsa king#asks#Season 2 thoughts#If I wrote smut for a used car salesman I will perish#What have I become?#I just want the angsty drama but also communicate#Paramount writers I am side eyeing you.

Sodapop x Fem!reader
We catches you working out in a crop top and shorts. Nothing spicy, maybe some kissing tho
Romance on the road.
( Sodapop x Female Reader)
warning: swearing, kissing that is about all.
you were new to Tulsa Oklahoma, you had just gotten to Tulsa yesterday and you didn’t know any body, literally no body. You had decided to move in with your Aunt because you felt like you couldn’t live alone anymore especially sense your parents had passed away not to long ago and you were on 17 years old.
“ hey Y/N I know your into cars and well I find this really nice car but it needs worked on, if you can get it to work then you can keep it for your self, and if you need anything for the car I will be happy to buy the stuff for you “ she said smiling at you.
You jumped out of you bed your book that you were reading now forgotten. And ran over to her and gave her a huge hug.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” You said excitedly.
you ran and took a shower, then you picked out your outfit, you figured it was going to be a pretty hot day today, so you put on one of your crop tops it was a red flannel crop top, then you put on your very short black shorts. You didn’t mind wearing that stuff sense you were only going to be fixing up the car.
“Alright I’m going out now see you later! “You called out to my aunt.
“Alright have fun sweetheart! “She called back.
You walked out to the sidewalk where the car was already parked. She must of gotten the car this morning because you didn’t see the car yesterday when you got to her house. You were lucky enough that your aunt lived right next to a DX.
You were working on your car when suddenly you heard a voice behind you.
“Well, I’ll be damned not very many chicks know how the first thing about a car” the person chuckled.
You turned around to see a very handsome guy. He was wearing some simple jeans, converse, a flannel shirt and a white T-shirt. But you had to admit he was very hot. You bet that all the girls fawned over him. You wouldn’t be surprised. You looked at him and chuckled.
“And not very many men know how to talk to a woman correctly, so I can give you that. “You said.
“ I know you probably don’t need help but maybe I can help you, I work at that Dx right there car parts are on the house how bout that “ he winked at you.
“ is that your way of flirting with me or trying to get on my good side “ you laughed.
“What if it’s both “he grinned.
“Then I would tell you not to try so hard “you said to him.
You went back to work on your car, but then you felt a warm body press against your back. You stood up straight and turn around. You saw that it was Sodapop, and he was looking down at you with a warm smile.
“I never got your name doll “he said brushing some hair behind your hair.
“ it’s Y/N….” You trailed off.
“My name is Sodapop, but you can call me baby “he smirked.
He got even closer to you, your guys body’s pressed against each others and he put his hands on your hips and pulled you closer.
“ I don’t think we could get any closer then this “ you said cracking a joke.
“Trust me I know we can I can show you how if you want me to “he said his face merely inches away from yours.
“ then show me how close you get handsome “ you whispered.
He picked you up and sat you in the hood of your car, then with no hesitation he pressed his lips against yours. You kissed him back. After a few minutes you two pulled away and you both smiled at each other.
“Wow…. that…that was amazing best kiss I’ve ever had no doubt about it” he said.
“Well, my lips are all yours “you grinned.
He chuckled and pulled you into another kiss. And that is how you and Sodapop started your wonderful journey together.

bird song hcs + pics pt 2 !!
alr you know the drill, lets go man
once again these pics are not supposed to look like the characters !! and some songs are not supposed to be time accurate !!
"dal! put your shirt back on! "
"lyd its hotter then the depths of hell, i am not putting my shirt back on"
hot summer days when it's humid are lydies least favorite days. the hot sun is always beating down on her and being trapped in a house or car is the last thing anyone wants to do, especially not when pools are all on the soc's territory, dal, and lyd sat outside hoping that something up above would make the heat stop
all of the gang slept in verano's new van, they were traveling to a concert and the concert was in northern texas so it was a decent drive down. darry and ronnie switched driving for a few hours while the rest of the gang either slept or chatted quietly. johnny and pony slept in the middle row with dally and lyd while soda, two bit, vinnie, and maude sat in the very back row.
the quiet sounds of the rolling stones played in the front row as darry and verano spoke about the trip back.
"lyd wake up, i made breakfast"
"hm? what?"
"i made hotcakes"
lydie got up and followed maude into the kitchen where vinnie sat, drinking his morning, black coffee. the table was set up, with syrup, plates, cups, and silverware
70s! vinnie braiding his adopted daughter's hair as maude made them dinner. jimi hendrix played in the background as incense burned.
"quit movin'! you're gonna make me fuck it up"
"sorry vin"
lyd and vin always go for car rides when they are upset, pissed off, or if they just need to talk. vinnie gets off of work and picks up lyd for a drive. vinnie listens to lyd rant and vice versa. their homelife being as terrible as it was, they only had each other when they were growing up, so they always took care of each other.
70s! dal and lyd moved back to NY, while on the trip, lyd turns on the radio and your song by elton john is playing.
"I don't have much money, but boy if I did," lyd sang as dal rolled his eyes and kept driving, "I'd buy a big house where we both could live" lydie looked over at dal as the song continued.
"if i was a sculpture, ha, but then again no," dallas muttered, as lyd smiled, "or a man who makes potions, in a traveling show."
"i knew, you knew the song," lyd said softly as the song continued without the two singing.
once johnny got old enough to leave his home, he moved in with dal and lyd in upstate ny, and he finally got out of tulsa. he rode a greyhound down to nyc and rode a bus upstate. he surprised the two and they took him in. their house is a small little bungalow with a few bedrooms. pony decides to go to SUNY near the bungalow. so he's near johnny. soda and darry visit them all the time, along with two bit and steve.
okay!! thanks for reading and please send in your own hcs !! mwah mwah !!

Hon. Joseph R. Biden, Jr. President of the United States 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20500
RE: Creating a federal commission by executive order by Juneteenth to study and develop reparations proposals for African Americans
Dear President Biden,
Now more than ever, we know that many of the racial disparities that weigh this country down, and divide people in the US from each other, are unnecessary and can be eradicated if we address the ongoing legacy of enslavement. By righting our wrongs, we can make sure that all families in the US get a fair chance to acquire land, to buy a home, to enjoy good health, and to live without fear about tomorrow. That is why we write to request that you create by Juneteenth an expert commission like that which would be established by a bill in Congress, H.R. 40, the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act.[1]
As 365 civil rights, human rights, and faith-based organizations and dozens of activists, leaders and celebrities that support H.R. 40 pointed out in a letter on February 4,[2] addressing pervasive anti-Black racism and providing reparations, long overdue, cannot wait another day, year, or decade. We are in a once-in-a-lifetime moment that we cannot let slip away if we are to begin the process of repair.
You have seen first-hand the dire need and ardent demand for repair. Last June, you visited Tulsa and spent time with the three remaining survivors of the race massacre that decimated Black Wall Street. Your historic trip fixed a spotlight on the three known race massacre survivors 107-year-old Viola Ford Fletcher, 107-year-old Lessie Benningfield Randle, and 101-year-old Hughes Van Ellis, on massacre descendants, and on the Black Tulsa community that continues to reel from the effects of white supremacy. Calls for federal action on reparations were loud and ubiquitous during your stay, coming from massacre descendants,[3] rights organizations, and members of the Congressional Black Caucus.[4]
This week, nearly a year after your visit, several of this letter's authors met again with the three known massacre survivors in Tulsa and massacre descendants, where in a courtroom they made their case for justice. As they race against the clock to secure reparations from the City of Tulsa, we implore you to seize on H.R. 40’s historic momentum by creating a federal reparations commission while the window is still open.
We hope that you will take this opportunity to make good on the promise that you and Vice President Kamala Harris made to Black voters outlined in the Lift Every Voice: The Biden Plan for Black America.[5] In this campaign plan, you pledged to tackle systemic racism and the continuing impacts of slavery by“supporting a study of reparations.” White House press secretary Jen Psaki is quoted as saying you support a study of reparations and White House senior advisor Cedric Richmond said that you support H.R. 40 specifically.[6] It is important to seize this chance to show up for those who have for too long weathered discrimination, abuse, and neglect in their tireless efforts to make this country into what it can and must be.
The US Congress made history when, on April 14, 2021, the House Judiciary Committee voted to move H.R. 40 to the House floor for full consideration, the first time in the bill’s 32-year history. The bill now has a record level of support with 215 members of Congress committed to voting “yes” when the bill comes to the House floor. This is far more than the bill has ever had and it should pass in the House if voted on. In addition, on March 12, 2022, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) passed a resolution of support for reparations and H.R. 40.[7] But considering US Senate dynamics and timing—there are just a few months left before the end of this 117th Congressional session in January 2023—we are calling on you to work with supporting organizations and House sponsors of H.R. 40 to set up the same commission by executive order by Juneteenth this year.
Juneteenth presents you with an important opportunity to commemorate the end of enslavement while also recognizing much more still needs to be done to create equity and real opportunity for African Americans in the US beyond declaring a national holiday. The Black to white racial wealth gap remains vast, with white households having a median of $188,200, 7.8 times that of Black households at $24,100,[8] a vestige of the legacy of enslavement—which can find its roots in redlining, the Homestead Act, and denying Black people access to federally backed home mortgages—and the failure to address the exploitation, segregation, and violence unleashed on Black people that followed. Moreover, the ongoing impacts of enslavement have resulted in deep psychological harms, including by way of forced separation and collective trauma, which require comprehensive remedy. The Covid-19 pandemic has only widened the inequality. It is also important that this commission be established by Juneteenth so that it can start working and issue recommendations before the next presidential elections.
H.R.40 would establish an expert commission to study the legacy of enslavement and how the failure to address harms stemming from it have resulted in huge racial disparities between white and Black people in: the ability to accumulate wealth and to access health care, education, housing and employment opportunities; environmental outcomes; and policing, among other things. The commission would also recommend proposals for how to provide repair for what the study reveals. This bill does not authorize payments or any specific remedy. It simply creates a commission to study the problem, gather relevant information, extensively involve and consult with impacted communities, and recommend solutions. Like the federal commission that investigated the forced relocation and wrongful incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, an H.R. 40-style commission can help pave the way for a critical and truthful reckoning and accounting for past harms and the present harms that flow from them.
As states, cities, and other institutions, including the state of California; Wilmington, Delaware; Providence, Rhode Island; Burlington, Vermont; Tullahassee, Oklahoma; Greenbelt, Maryland; Detroit, Michigan; Evanston, Illinois; Georgetown University; the Jesuits; and others pursue reparations at an accelerated pace,[9] it would be sheer irony for the federal government, which sanctioned the kidnapping and trafficking in human beings that slavery entailed, and maintained subsequent anti-Black laws and institutions, to continue to lag behind and circumvent real progress on reparations.
It is in Tulsa where you so powerfully and unequivocally stated: “the only way to build a common ground is to truly repair and to rebuild.”[10] As the 101st anniversary of the massacre approaches, and racial disparities continue to keep communities across the US divided, we could not agree more.
For the above reasons, and those stated in our February 4, 2022, letter referenced above, we hope that we can count on you to take this meaningful first step toward achieving racial justice and realizing reparations for centuries of ongoing harm. We ask that you create a federal commission to study and develop reparations proposals for African Americans similar to that of H.R. 40 by Juneteenth this year. We stand ready to work with you to ensure this happens and kindly request a meeting as soon as possible to discuss the details. Thank you for your consideration.

We don't even have sidewalks. 😞
The extremely shitty thing is, this is where I could afford to buy a decent house with no down payment in a decent school district. Not great, decent.
I hate it. I loved living in the city.
We have immense privilege. I know. But we also have 2 cars that are paid off that are falling apart due to the sheer amount of driving we do. There's no public transit in the suburbs let alone the exurbs where we are.
We don't have community like we did in the city.
We had to make a choice.
I don't know if it was the right one.
We had to weigh a bunch of shitty options & being able to do that is still a privilege!
The "United" states are a failed experiment.
Even when I lived in the city of Tulsa, the CENTER of Tulsa, a trip to the grocery store on foot would have taken hours. Unless it was the dollar general which was slightly closer than it is now.
The US is a hellscape. A literal libertarian like, late stage capitalist dystopia.
DID I MENTION THE INACCESSIBLE UNAFFORDABLE CITY FOR US IS TULSA OKLAHOMA

FFXIV Write 2024 prompt 22: Crunch
It took some time for Husband to learn the Eorzean Alphabet when he arrived in my world. I am not sure why. Upon coming to Earth I found that Eorzean common is very similar to English, except for the letters, which seem to have a one-to-one match. Yet he did not learn Eorzean letters quickly, while I was able to learn Earth English
"name of english letters": "Roman Alphabet"
Roman letters easily. I know he is smart, but perhaps he is not very smart in that particular way.
So he did not do much reading in Eorzea, except for his journal. He did write many notes in English on paper he had to buy…we did not learn before coming to Earth that we could write in the blank pages of our journals with enchanted copper ink. While we still do that for new recipes, we now mostly keep our notes in google docs.
And I did not know, when I first came to Earth, how to read English. When we found the golden circle near our house in the Lavender Beds, Husband declared it would take us to a new world, with new things and new adventures. So I agreed to step into it with him, there was an odd change to the air, and then the house was gone. The Lavender Beds were gone. We found ourselves in some woods.
He was quite pleased by this. "See? A new world! A new place to explore! One that neither of us knows!"
"Do you know where we are, Husband?"
He turned his face to the heavens, spread his arms wide, and with a big smile loudly proclaimed, "I have NO IDEA!"
I looked around. This new world did not seem too different from the one we had just left. Plants were green, the sky was blue, the clouds were white, and the sunlight was mostly yellow.
Husband was still talking. "This is what adventure is all about! We need to explore! There's probably new people, new places, new monsters to fight…there might be new combat classes…Hell, there might even be a new magic system! Why, we might…"
He stopped. I turned to look at him, and saw he was staring at something on the ground, looking much less happy. He bent to pick it up. It looked like a slip of paper, though I now know it was very thin plastic.
He contemplated it seriously. I approached to see. I did not yet know Roman letters, so I did not yet know the large letters on it read "CRUNCH". I have since seen Crunch bars in May's grocery. I asked, "What is it?"
"...A candy wrapper."
"What is a candy wrapper?"
"A wrapper for candy." He turned to a distant roaring sound, tossed the wrapper aside, and headed into the trees.
I caught the wrapper and examined it. It smelled like chocolate. I hurried to catch up with Husband as he stalked away.
We made our way through the trees until they abruptly ended, with a field in front of us, and a long dark strip between the trees and the field that made me think of Garlean outposts. It was grey, with yellow lines running along its length. It seemed to be made of small stones that had been pressed flat. "This is a road?" I asked.
"Yeah."
"What is it made of?"
"Asphalt."
He was not looking at the road. Nor was he looking at the large truck disappearing down the road to the left. Instead he was looking at a green sign with white letters at the side of the road to the right. I did not then know it said, "TULSA 50".
"Do you know where we are, Husband?"
He sighed and sounded oddly weary as he said, "I might have some idea."
