Wazoku expands into UAE to bring its AI-connected innovation ecosystem to the GCC countries
Innovative scale-up partners with FKRA and Technology Innovation Institute to drive growth and development in GCC
LONDON, UK — (ARAB NEWSWIRE) – Innovation scale-up Wazoku is expanding into the GCC region, with the establishment of a dedicated presence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The company has invested in a UAE server infrastructure to meet local requirements and to ensure client data protection. Furthermore, Wazoku has partnered with FKRA, a UAE innovation consultancy, to bring on-the-ground expertise and increased responsiveness to local market requirements.
“Demand for open innovation services in GCC is growing rapidly, with the region increasingly seeking global expertise to address its challenges,” said Schonning Eysturoy, Senior Director of Innovation Ecosystems at Wazoku. “With more than 2,500 challenges solved through open innovation, Wazoku is well positioned to support this need for innovation expertise. Our partnership with FKRA and our new UAE-based server reflect our commitment to the region and enhance our ability to meet the GCC’s requirements.”
Wazoku already has offices and partners in the UK, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Colombia and the US. It has previously worked with organisations across the GCC, including Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Neom, Saudi Water Authority, and Aramco.
Wazoku recently supported the Global Prize for Innovation in Desalination (GPID), the world’s largest competition dedicated to excellence in desalination. Leveraging crowdsourcing, Wazoku identified 540 participants this year—more than double the previous year’s count. These participants will compete for $10 million in prize money, with the winner to be announced in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 25th.
Since establishing a presence in the UAE, Wazoku has added clients such as the defense contractor EDGE Group, and the Technology Innovation Institute (TII). The expansion and partnerships will be formally announced at event in Abu Dhabi on November 19, 2024, held in collaboration with TII. The event will focus on how crowdsourcing can foster innovation in the region.
Wazoku works with customers, including Sanofi, A2A, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and many global enterprise businesses, government departments and not-for-profits, to crowdsource and manage ideas and innovation.
Its Innovation Ecosystem Platform supports its Total Innovation approach to Market Intelligence & Scouting, Innovation Management and Start-up & Partner Ecosystem Management. This enables organisations to crowdsource, capture, and manage ideas, whether from their own networks (such as employees, customers, or partners) or via the 700,000 researchers, scientists, and other experts that form part of the Wazoku Crowd.
“The GCC countries are increasing their investment in R&D, with UAE recently establishing an R&D council to help build an innovation ecosystem. Wazoku’s innovation management platform and global innovation ecosystem can support this ambition,” Eysturoy continued. “Our UAE presence is a pivotal step that means we can better serve GCC clients as they approach innovation on a bigger scale.”

King’s Business School: How AI is transforming problem-solving
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/kings-business-school-how-ai-is-transforming-problem-solving/
King’s Business School: How AI is transforming problem-solving
.pp-multiple-authors-boxes-wrapper display:none; img width:100%;
A new study by researchers at King’s Business School and Wazoku has revealed that AI is transforming global problem-solving.
The report found that nearly half (46%) of Wazoku’s 700,000-strong network of problem solvers had utilised generative AI (GenAI) to work on innovative ideas over the past year. This network – known as the Wazoku Crowd – comprises a diverse group of professionals including scientists, pharmacists, engineers, PhD students, CEOs, start-ups, and business leaders.
Perhaps more strikingly, almost a quarter (22%) of respondents reported using GenAI or LLM tools such as ChatGPT and Claude for at least half of their idea submissions, with 8% employing these technologies for every single submission. Of those using GenAI, 47% are leveraging it specifically for idea generation.
The Wazoku Crowd’s collective intelligence is harnessed to solve ‘challenges’ – requests for ideas submitted by enterprises – with an impressive success rate of over 80%.
Simon Hill, CEO of Wazoku, commented on the findings: “There’s an incredible amount of hype with GenAI, but alongside that there is enormous curiosity. Getting immersed in something and being curious is an innovator’s dream, so there is rich potential with GenAI.”
However, Hill also urged caution: “A note of caution, though – it is best used to generate interest, not solutions. Human ingenuity and creativity are still best, although using GenAI can undoubtedly make that process more effective.”
The study revealed that the most common application of GenAI was in research and learning, with 85% of respondents using it for this purpose. Additionally, around one-third of the Wazoku Crowd employed GenAI for report structuring, writing, and data analysis and insight.
The research was conducted in partnership with Oguz A. Acar, Professor of Marketing and Innovation at King’s Business School, King’s College London. Professor Acar viewed the study as a crucial first step towards understanding AI’s potential and limitations in tackling complex innovation challenges.
“Everyone’s trying to figure out what AI can and can’t do, and this survey is a step forward in understanding that,” Professor Acar stated. “It reveals that some crowd members view GenAI as a valuable ally, using it to research, create, and communicate more effectively.”
“While perhaps it’s no surprise that those open to innovation are curious about new tools, the survey also shows mixed opinions. Most people haven’t used GenAI tools yet, highlighting that we’re only beginning to uncover AI’s potential in innovative problem-solving.”
Wazoku collaborates with a range of customers, including Sanofi, A2A, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and numerous global enterprise businesses, government departments, and not-for-profits, to crowdsource ideas and innovation.
Recently, Wazoku launched its own conversational AI to aid innovation. Dubbed Jen AI, this digital innovation assistant has access to Wazoku’s connected innovation management suite—aimed at accelerating decision-making around innovation and enhancing productivity to deliver consistent, scalable results.
“The solutions to the world’s problems are complex, and the support of AI brings vast benefits in terms of efficiency, creativity, and insight generation,” explained Hill.
As the adoption of AI in innovation processes continues to grow, it’s clear that – while these tools offer significant potential – they are best used to augment rather than replace human creativity and problem-solving skills.

UK local authorities join innovation programme that aims to save one billion pounds by 2022
New £Billion Challenge encourages the sharing and development of innovation and income generation ideas to save and make money in local government London, 03 December 2020 – UK local authorities have come together to join a new initiative that will allow them to collaborate and innovate in new ways and collectively make or save £1billion by September 2022. The £Billion Challenge initiative was started by public sector consultancy Commercial Gov and currently has 113 local authorities involved, including Cheltenham Borough Council, Dudley Council and the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. Participants, typically commercial directors, finance managers, divisional heads and board directors, submit ideas to an innovation platform provided by idea management software and services firm Wazoku. They can then discuss and develop those ideas, pilot them where appropriate, and allow many more local authorities to benefit from the savings. “Local authorities have worked tirelessly to reduce costs and make efficiency savings but there is not much left for them to cut,” said David Elverson, managing director, Commercial Gov. “It’s now a question of thinking differently and local government will not achieve the results and savings it needs by acting in the same way that it has always done. There are many innovative ideas in the UK public sector and the £Billion Challenge can help share and scale those ideas in local authorities across the country to maximise savings. Local authorities are encouraged to submit innovation and income generation ideas in The £Billion Challenge in response to four different challenges: Innovative to save - looking for ways in which innovation help local authorities to do things differently so they can achieve more with fewer resources. Income generation – seeking bigger and longer-term ideas for new revenues and ventures, whether through services, assets, place-shaping or unique competencies. Quick wins – focusing on ideas that local authorities can implement within a maximum of 6-12 months, and that must also be able to demonstrate clear ROI in the same timescale. Joint procurement – looking to realise savings from the joint commissioning and procurement between local authorities. “All local authorities are currently experiencing the same financial pressures, whether it’s from unprecedented times or ever-decreasing funding streams,” said Sanjay Mistry, Commercial Programme Manager, Cheltenham Borough Council. “Collaboration is key in helping to alleviate this strain, and to provide the opportunity for greater benefits and shared success. The £Billion Challenge provides a driver for like-minded authorities to come together to innovate and solve problems for the greater good.” Wazoku’s platform is used by a variety of businesses (Waitrose, Enel, HSBC) and public sector organisations (Ministry of Defence, Worcestershire County Council) to capture, evaluate, improve and implement ideas from all across an ecosystem. It’s a collaborative platform that makes it simple to discuss and develop ideas and comes with a range of features to make the entire idea process more engaging and effective. “We work extensively with the public sector and see first-hand just how much creativity and innovation there is within it,” said Simon Hill, CEO and founder, Wazoku. “But it’s true that for many local authorities, innovation exists in siloes and pockets and isn’t shared across that authority, let alone authorities elsewhere in the UK. The £Billion Challenge makes meaningful collaboration much easier, giving participants the means to share ideas that can deliver tangible and sizable savings.” Other UK local authorities interested in joining the £Billion Challenge can register for the initiative here.
