What a weekend! The absolutely perfect weekend ever…I miss Watkins Glen already! What a symphony…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Been so busy from early morning to 10 at night already feeling tired. Now I’m back home and I’m still on cloud nine! I went to Watkins Glen last year and it’s just so surreal going there in person after doing it on the sim. I went this past weekend and wow…can’t believe it’s been nearly three days since I was at the Glen. I miss my race cars, Porsche specifically! Hehe
Tumblr media
But for real though, this was just once again so surreal. Seeing the cars up close and also meeting the drivers, it’s just an amazing, heavenly experience that made my little lady so happy!! Nothing ever beats this. The sheer adrenaline from it all makes my spine tingle. I need to be a Porsche factory driver! Like imagine just being a driver doing the 6 hours of the Glen? That would be just so perfect…so exhilarating…a dream!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, that was my weekend in New York at Watkins Glen. Will get back to recoding my files soon after I recover from a lot of sun and tiredness haha, but it was so worth it! 🫀
Hope nobody minds a kind of off topic post, but I can guarantee I am still here, it was just a busy, busy, busy two weeks in Ontario and then New York. My brain was hyper focused on other things but I’m back! I just cannot contain my excitement and happiness over the weekend. I’ve missed hearing the race cars up close and smelling the exhaust fumes (yes I’m weird but I like it haha). And Porsche? The best sounding car on track…of course! A gorgeous car with a beastly and gorgeous symphony that I can never get enough of…also, my favourite team, Porsche Penske Motorsport won the 6 hours of the Glen!! It’s the #7 red, white, and black pin stripe Porsche 963 (the fourth row) with the #6 in P3!!! They are absolutely unstoppable and Porsche never misses. Much love to them ❤️🖤🤍 makes my little lady race that’s for sure!

Watkins Glen 2024
I was sad to not be there in person, since Watkins Glen is my local track, but with work and work deadlines as they are this month, I just couldn't. My next weekend/day off is in mid-October, and YES, I am counting down. It was still cool to be so intimately familiar with the layout of the track, though, having both driven and bicycled the track this year. <333
I also think it's SUPER cute they repainted all the rumble strips NASCAR flag colors. Normally they're just red and yellow, without the blue!
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THEM. SO CUTE. SO PRIMARY.
As to the race itself: I am a BUNDLE OF NERVES this Round of 16 because every track is such a wildcard. And rightly so, from Lap 1!!!! The carnage was immediate (oof) and the intensity never let up (amazing but also I passed away 17 times). Considering what *happened* to everyone I'm surprised the points are still so close (and so healthy, for people like Reddick, WB, and Blaney [to still be P8 in the playoffs despite running approximately 1 minute of this 2.5-hour race??]). And considering the state of the 11 and how deeply P34 he was all day, -6 is a blessing, too, to be honest.
Xfinity murdered 100% of the Kyles (Sieg and Weatherman), so I'm glad that Cup only murdered 50% of the Kyles (though KyBu did manage to get murdered twice). For the 5 today, I was hoping for an uneventful mid-pack finish and was actually gifted an eventful but non-deleterious mid-pack finish, so that was great. He was all over the field all day, which was fun to watch--working up to P8 from P20, then to the back, and further back, and a fun joust with Zane Smith and Joey. All over the track and all over the leaderboard, really working for it. He was out for blood with Zane, lol.
And the finish was badass, ngl. I have not yet recovered from witnessing, in person, back-to-back Buescher and McDowell wins last year, but this was still very cool for Buescher. Hats off to SVG as well.
The specter of Bristol? And weird tire Bristol (which I'd forgotten about from spring)??? Terrifying.

New for me in '23. The year in review.
I guess first and foremost my biggest accomplishment in 2033 was that I survived it. Anything beyond that is a bonus.
Fortunately, there were a lot of bonuses and a lot of things I did for the first time.
Things that were bonuses:
My television show was featured in promotions on the VeryLocal network for National Women's Month in March and for Pride Month in June. It was also shown locally on Channel 2 for the first time!
I appeared on another show for Spetrum News. For Pride Month I was featured in a segment called "Everyday Heros".

Tumblr media
Things that were new:
There were lots of these this year! Some I planned on, others just just kind of....happened.
I joined the "Century Club" for two different activities. I did 102 miles on the hiking trails in 4 different states including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and New York.
I did 132 hours of volunteer work for 6 different organizations. Osceola Arts, The Center Orlando, Equality Florida, Come Out With Pride, Out and Equal and Disney VoluntEARs. This raised over $1,300 in donations!
I did my first glamping trip!
Tumblr media
I met my favorite author, Melissa Brayden and my second favorite, Georgia Beers at Read Out 2023
Tumblr media
I got politically active for the first time as Governor DeFascist and his right wing gestopo targeted LGBTQIA + people, and especially the transgender community, with utterly despicable legislation.
Expanded and added new ways to enjoy the arts. This included my first Opera, Ballet and LGBTQ themed stage play.
Discovered that, even though I love hiking, overnight camping doesn't work with my physical limitations (right now)
Tumblr media
Visited Watkins Glen State Park (which I loved) and Niagara Falls (which was ok) in Western New York.
Was included in the "100 years of Disney Castmembers " featuring a photo (with my.....< sigh> friend) and a short quote.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Had a great time marching in my first Pride Parade through downtown Orlando. The energy was incredible and so much more fun then I imagined.
Tumblr media
But, by far, my favorite thing I did this year was be part of the cast of "Affirming Love ". It was my first ever stage performance as an actress and the feeling of performing in that capacity was thrilling, nerve-wracking and completely addictive! I swear the part was written with me in mind. It was a perfect fit. Especially for my first time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Challenges:
There is never a year without it share of challenging times and obstacles. These included the still unresolved issue of my kidney ureter problem, The take over of my house by my "guest", my crippling loneliness, worry about what others will do next in thier war on the LGBTQ community, too many hours working to afford my house, my physical limitations (including arthritis) and more.
In retrospect the year was a successful one. So many new experiences, so many firsts and so many memories.
Plus I'm still here to see what 2024 might bring.
What might those be.....well, I have a few ideas.

Formula drift at Englishtown tomorrow. Supposed to be 96 and I have to wear pants. Possibly the first time ever I'm not stoked to go to any car event…Hopefully I get some good shots out of it. Then it's off to Watkins Glen again for the 6 hour IMSA race.

Book Review: “Brothers and Sisters: The Allman Brothers Band and the Inside Story of the Album that Defined the ’70s” by Alan Paul
When author Alan Paul called his book about the Allman Brothers Band’s Brothers and Sisters album “the inside story,” he was being literal.
For Paul had the rare good fortune of being granted access to hundreds of hours of interviews with band members conducted decades ago by trusted group insider Kirk West for a book West never got around to writing. Enter Paul, who emerged from the tapes and other research with “Brothers and Sisters: The Allman Brothers Band and the Inside Story of the Album that Defined the ’70s.”
The Allman Brothers Band was arguably America’s most-popular group during this era - so ubiquitous that 7-11 sold Slurpees in ABB cups in 1974. It’s also a unique period in the group’s long history, the only time the band had just one guitarist (Dickey Betts) but two keyboardists, with Gregg Allman on organ and Chuck Leavell - who would form Sea Level with ABB drummer Jaimoe and bassist Lamar Williams after the group split - on piano.
Ostensibly a history of ABB between Duane Allman’s death in 1971 and the group’s first breakup in ’76, Paul’s latest tome dives much deeper, looking at Capricorn Records, the Allmans’ musical collaborators - including the Grateful Dead, the Marshall Tucker Band and Wet Willie - their competition with Lynyrd Skynyrd and the band’s friendship with and campaign for Jimmy Carter’s successful bid for the presidency.
Carter, a devout Christian, was so comfortable with the band, he reportedly greeted Dickey Betts backstage in Rhode Island by saying: “Goddamn, how are you, man?”
Though the time frame it covers is narrow, “Brothers and Sisters” is expensive, offering tidbits such as the fact Leavell played only one gig with Berry Oakley before the bassist died in a motorcycle crash and was replaced by Williams. It also digs deeply into Jerry Garcia’s influence on Betts; the Watkins Glen Summer Jam with the Allmans, the Dead and the Band; and Gregg Allman’s Laid Back and Betts’ Highway Call, the solo albums that foreshadowed the band’s first breakup.

While the walkways make this an easy “hike,” there are stairs, which means you can expect there will be some carrying. The area is meticulously maintained with boardwalks throughout the hike, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with the waterfalls. These days it’s hardly a secret and actually has a cost associated with hiking it, but those who visit will tell you it’s totally worth the fee. Apparently her family didn’t believe her discovery and took some convincing before they went to explore this mythical waterfall-filled fall canyon. It was discovered in 1808 by 93-year-old “Aunt” Jess Guernsey while fishing. Located at the bottom of Liberty Mountain, Flume Gorge has a fun historical story. GEAR SUGGESTIONS: Backpack with snacks, camera POTENTIAL CHILD OR BABY HAZARDS: Wooden boardwalk has openings

The summer rain that plagued the 2023 IMSA Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen failed to slow Vasser Sullivan’s N°14 Lexus RC F GT3 as they proceeded to top the GTD Pro class and secure their second victory of the young season.
