Hot on the heels of KFC’s Hot Devil Drumlets is McDonald's Singapore’s Sweet Paprika Chicken McCrispy (S$6.80 for two). The darker shade of orange comes from the sweet and flavourful mix of spices of paprika, red bell pepper and black pepper. It had a nice crunch when you sink in the teeth followed by slight kick of spiciness and sweet aftertaste. While not as spicy as the competitor, the balance of spices and sweetness win me over with its smoky flavours and crunch.

Also new on the menu is the Watermelon Cone and Twist Cone. Got the Watermelon Twist Cone (S$1.20) since it looks better on camera and also because my colleague warned me about the sweetness. The faint taste of watermelon is evident as I licked the ice cream cone. While McDonald's tried their best to imitate the sweetness of the watermelon, it came through as cane sugar saccharine and not the fruity sweetness of the actual fruit. This dessert is not to my liking.

The Amazing Digital Circus Recipe Ideas
1. Glitch Cupcakes
Ingredients: Vanilla or chocolate cupcakes, bright colored icing (blue, neon pink, green), edible glitter, and candy pixels (made with small square-shaped candies).
Idea: Decorate the cupcakes with digital glitch patterns using bright, pixelated colors and add some metallic or glowing effects to reflect the theme.
2. Circus Popcorn Cones
Ingredients: Freshly popped popcorn, melted chocolate (white, dark, or colored candy melts), sprinkles, edible confetti, and sugar cones.
Idea: Fill the sugar cones with the popcorn and drizzle with colorful chocolate, adding edible confetti and sprinkles to make them pop with color and circus excitement.
3. Neon Pixel Jello Bites
Ingredients: Different flavors/colors of jello, neon food coloring, and small square-shaped molds.
Idea: Make jello bites in various bright neon colors to look like digital pixels. You can layer them in a clear glass bowl to create a glowing, tech-inspired effect that resembles a digital screen.
4. Clown Cake Pops
Ingredients: Cake pop mix, candy melts in bright colors, edible metallic paint, and candy eyes.
Idea: Shape cake pops into mini robots or clown faces. Use candy melts to give them fun, whimsical colors and add metallic touches to give them a digital feel.
5. Augmented Reality Nachos
Ingredients: Tortilla chips, multicolored cheese sauces (cheddar, mozzarella dyed with food coloring), guacamole, salsa, sour cream, and digital-themed toppers (like pixelated cheese or nachos shaped like tech symbols).
Idea: Serve this with a fun twist by arranging the nachos in a digital pattern, or use nacho toppings with wild, unexpected colors that look like they’ve been “augmented” digitally.
6. Glowing Cotton Candy Drinks
Ingredients: Club soda, colorful cotton candy, and edible glow sticks or LED ice cubes.
Idea: Serve a drink with a tuft of cotton candy on top. When stirred in, it dissolves and creates a sweet, colorful drink. The glowing ice cubes or LED sticks add a futuristic, digital effect.
7. Pixelated Fruit Kabobs
Ingredients: Different types of colorful fruits like watermelon, pineapple, strawberries, and cantaloupe cut into cube shapes.
Idea: Arrange these fruit cubes on skewers to resemble pixels. You can even create patterns or images with the cubes to enhance the digital vibe.
8. Virtual Reality Pizza
Ingredients: Basic pizza dough, neon-colored toppings (dyed cheese, bright vegetables like bell peppers), and LED skewers.
Idea: Top your pizza with vibrant, digital-inspired toppings. You can even serve slices on LED-lit plates for an extra futuristic feel!
9. Pixel Pancakes
Make pancakes in different shapes and vibrant colors to represent pixels. You can use food coloring to create different shades. Stack them up and decorate with colorful fruits (blueberries, strawberries, kiwi) and whipped cream.
Ingredients: Pancake mix, food coloring, fruit, whipped cream
Directions: Make the pancake batter, divide it into separate bowls, and add different colors. Pour in pixel shapes using cookie cutters or freehand. Stack and decorate!
10. Circus Swirl Smoothie
A layered smoothie in bright, contrasting colors. Think of it as layers of different flavors stacked like a digital landscape.
Ingredients: Mango, strawberries, blueberries, yogurt, spinach, almond milk
Directions: Blend each fruit separately with a bit of yogurt and almond milk, then layer them carefully in a glass for a striped, rainbow effect.
11.Neon Popcorn
Regular popcorn with an exciting twist! Coat popcorn with neon-colored candy melts or edible glitter for a fun snack that feels like it’s straight out of a digital circus.
Ingredients: Popcorn, candy melts (neon colors), edible glitter
Directions: Melt candy melts, toss popcorn, and coat. Add edible glitter for an extra pop!
12. Digital Circuit Board Cookies
Sugar cookies shaped and decorated to resemble circuit boards or digital screens. Use royal icing to draw out "wires" and "chips."
Ingredients: Sugar cookie dough, royal icing, food coloring, edible silver dust
Directions: Bake the cookies in square or rectangular shapes, then decorate with green icing to mimic a circuit board. Use darker icing to draw connections and sprinkle edible dust for a high-tech look.
13. Binary Byte Brownies
These brownies are divided into tiny squares (like pixels) and decorated with a binary pattern using white and dark chocolate.
Ingredients: Brownie mix, white chocolate, dark chocolate
Directions: Bake a sheet of brownies and once cooled, cut into small squares. Decorate each square with melted white or dark chocolate to represent binary code (1s and 0s).
14. Digital Rainbow Donuts
Idea: Brightly colored donuts with a rainbow glaze, giving them a surreal, otherworldly appearance.
Ingredients: Donut batter, rainbow icing (made with white icing and food coloring), sprinkles.
Decoration: Dip the donuts into colorful glazes, using swirling patterns or separate rainbow layers for an electric circus feel.

[skitters in] the entire emoji themed ask game for Eleazar and Lazarus please and thank you ::3
waaaah. utc its SO long.
Ask Game!
Tumblr media
🍼 [BABY BOTTLE] What's your OC's first memory?
Lazarus: Waking up in the burnt down ruins of its home, completely detached from life.
Eleazar: A birthday party when he was five.
🥛 [MILK] What is your OC's relationship with their biological parents like? What about their relationship with any non-biological parental figures?
Lazarus: Strained.
Eleazar: Really good! He relies on them a lot.
🍨 [ICE CREAM] How does your OC compose themselves in stressful situations?
Lazarus: Disappears lol.. It's abilities are very much ghostlike, so it tends to just disappear. It will come back when its calmed down, yk?
Eleazar: Nervously plays with his hair. He'll twist the strands.
🍦 [SOFT CONE] Where does your OC work? How much are they paid, and would they prefer a different job? Why?
Lazarus: "Lazarus Fletcher, Reaper of Phantom Fade." It is death. One of 'em at least. It doesn't get paid anything, thankless job really. It would prefer being a historian, they both wanted to be historians.
Eleazar: He has a part time job at the college library (,: it doesn't pay that much but it helps with his education. One day he'll be a Preservationist! He wants to work with the HEA to preserve sorcerer society and finalism. Especially after WW2 wiped so much out.
🍬 [LOLLY/CANDY] What would your OC like to receive for Valentine's Day/as a token of love?
Lazarus: Nothing? It doesn't really care.
Eleazar: Cupcakes! Strawberry ones.
🥤 [PARTY CUP] How does your OC feel about drama? Do they start any themselves?
Lazarus: It won't start any but it WILL listen. :eyes: and all
Eleazar: He says he won't get involved in drama but he's so gossipy lol
🍷 [WINE] Where on the 'wine aunt scale' is your OC?
Lazarus: Gags trying to drink wine.
Eleazar: Also.. gags trying to drink wine.. But he's cool
🥀 [WILTED ROSE] How good is your OC at meeting deadlines? What motivates them?
Lazarus: It literally has an easier time dispatching of lost souls than traditionally reaping a soul. It will fuck up ON PURPOSE. So BAD. AWFUL. LMAO??
Eleazar: Really good!! He's gotta be for that degree :triumph:
🌹 [ROSE] Does your OC believe in true love? Why?
Lazarus: It hopes so.
Eleazar: YES.
🍄 [MUSHROOM] How likely is your OC to eat random berries/mushrooms they find?
Lazarus: Very likely, it gets bored.
Eleazar: Well wars are super cool for making food scarce. He's quite good at identifying random berries and mushrooms.
🍁 [MAPLE LEAF] What is your OC's favourite season? Why and what do they do during it?
Lazarus: Summer. Nice, warm. Sunbathe...
Eleazar: Winter. Its the season opposite to the one he lost his twin in. Skiing!
🍎 [RED APPLE] Who does your OC value above all else?
Lazarus: It's twin.
Eleazar: His twin.
🍒 [CHERRY] Who is your OC's perfect companion?
Lazarus: A bird, perhaps a little mouse.
Eleazar: Doggy!! Probably a big fluffy one.
🍓 [STRAWBERRY] How do they feel about 'cute' things?
Lazarus: Doesn't pay attention.
Eleazar: Coo
🍅 [TOMATO] How misunderstood is your OC? In-universe or IRL.
Lazarus: Especially at the time period it's in, probably pretty misunderstood? IRL I think people would be down bad for it.
Eleazar: Same situation as Laz.
🌶️ [HOT PEPPER] Who would your OC declare their sworn enemy if they could meet them?
Uhm well Laz died as a result of WW2 and Eleazar lost his twin as a result of WW2 so. Hitler????
🍉 [WATERMELON] What will your OC take to the grave?
Lazarus: WELL YOU SEE.
Eleazar: That he's partially to blame for his twin dying.
🍟 [CHIPS/FRIES] How much junk food/sometimes food does your OC eat? Has it affected their health?
Lazarus: It has no need to eat, so most of the food it consumes is junkfood lol. It doesn't have an affect, yk, death.
Eleazar: He eats as healthy as possible but he loves sweets...
🍂 [AUTUMN LEAVES] Does your OC view piles of dead leaves as a mess or as fun?
Both: Fun!!
🥕 [CARROT] How tough is your OC against certain situations? How weak are they against others?
Lazarus: Literally invincible. ONE GUY can kill it and that guy has not yet been born. Well and the Fates can erase it, but they have no reason to.
Eleazar: Anything that counters his umbramancy. Too bright an area can absolutely fuck him over because he won't be able to use his magic properly. That being said, he's pretty good in most situations thanks to the abundance of shadows.
🍊 [ORANGE] Does your OC have a prophecy surrounding them? If they don't, what would it be?
Lazarus: Nope! If they did it'd be the "died for another to prevail" type prophecy.
Eleazar: Also no. But one could argue he is the other half of the "lost someone important in order to prevail" trope. And his twin's death did directly lead to him insisting on the preservation of magical society so as to prevent a future erasure. But it isn't a prophecy because he alone wasn't enough for that. I think Rowan said the last one was the 60s?
🥭 [MANGO] What colours best represent them and why? Does this differ from their favourites?
Lazarus: Blue and silver. I don't have a why, it just does. Anyways it's favourite colour is orange.
Eleazar: White and black. His favourite colour is red.
🌰 [CHESTNUT] What food group does your OC mostly eat (e.g., grains, fruits)?
Lazarus: Candy.
Eleazar: Vegetables.
🍑 [PEACH] How do they show their kindness? How kind are they truly?
Lazarus: It isn't very kind because it doesn't have much opportunity to be. It doesn't even really grant the souls it reaps any sort of kindness. Watching them become monster in order to hunt them down.
Eleazar: He always remembers people's interests or things they point out. He likes to think he's pretty kind.
🧅 [ONION] What is surefire to make your OC cry? Who knows of this information?
Lazarus: Hurt its brother.
Eleazar: Remind him of his childhood.
🍍 [PINEAPPLE] Pineapple on pizza or not?
Pineapple on pizza doesn't exist in their time rn LOL. Neither will care in the future though.
🍋 [LEMON] What is their kryptonite/ultimate weakness?
Lazarus: Boredom..
Eleazar: Honestly too many things. He's a soft guy.
🌽 [CORN] How good are they at hiding and finding their way?
Lazarus: It IS its whole thing..
Eleazar: VERY GOOD.
🍕 [PIZZA SLICE] How good is your OC at sharing? How do they share something if there's not enough supply?
Lazarus: It won't want to, but it will. Because there's very little it needs to sustain itself.
Eleazar: Will make sure everyone else has their share before him.
🧈 [BUTTER] How soft is your OC? In what sense are they soft?
Lazarus: Has really soft hair, thats about it.
Eleazar: He's very soft. He refuses to let the horrors he's experienced turn him to stone.
🍌 [BANANA] Have parts of your OC been lost to time (in-universe)? What do they wish they could lose from themselves?
In the future, yes. Eleazar's efforts will be forgotten and those who knew sans it's family will know Laz.
🏵️ [ROSETTE] What flower symbolises your OC best and why? What does the flower mean in floriography?
Lazarus: Forget-Me-Not. I mean. Lol.
Eleazar: Purple hydrangea. A deep desire to understand.
🍪 [BUSCUIT/COOKIE] Does your OC prefer things simple or extravagant?
Both: Simple.
🍻 [BEER CHEERS] Is your OC typically on the louder or quieter side?
Lazarus: Quiet.
Eleazar: Loud.
🥂 [GLASS CHEERS] What is your OC's 'aesthetic?'
Lazarus: doesn't really have one?
Eleazar: DARK ACADEMIA IM AFRAID.
🥃 [MATE] What does your OC look for in a friend? What do they find is a turn-off?
Lazarus: Would run screaming if forced to make a friend.
Eleazar: Kindness to animals is a must! If you don't like animals, he won't like you lol
🍯 [HONEY] At what point does someone seem sickly sweet to your OC?
Lazarus: It is really good at reading people. As if it can tell if someone is lying. Using kindness as a front, even slightly, it will know.
Eleazar: Too many compliments...
🍞 [BREAD] Does your OC have any allergies? How severe are they? Do they require equipment to help them?
Lazarus: Not anymore.
Eleazar: He's allergic to bees..
🥐 [CROISSANT] Where is your OC from? How do they feel about their homeland? Where are they now?
Their family is originally from England, however both of them were born in Germany in the 1930s. Their family is now back in England. Lazarus, drifts..
🥖 [BAGUETTE BREAD] Where is your OC's favourite food from? Is it a variety of places?
(sounds of lane googling where cake was invented)
"The first documented strawberry shortcake recipe appeared in a 1588 British cookbook." there.
🥨 [PRETZEL] How complicated is your OC's backstory? Who does it entwine with?
See it isn't necessarily complicated, but it is HEAVILY related to /actual world history/ which makes it just really fucking grim. Its accepted Ad Vitam canon that there were genocides of sorcerer children before they came into their powers, and complete wipes of their religion from history.
Lazarus and Eleazar's stories heavily have to do with these genocides and that comes in combination with WW2 being a big part of their lives. Not complicated at all. Just sad.
🥯 [BAGEL] What does/has your OC have/had an unhealthy obsession over? What caused this obsession? How do they deal with it? Do they seek help?
Lazarus: It thinks its normal (You couldn't face your family for years because you couldn't stand the fact you wear your brother's face.)
Eleazar: Food hoarding... He can't help it..
🥞 [PANCAKES] What's the most your OC can eat in one sitting? At what point do they get sick?
Lazarus: Like a normal plate?
Eleazar: He has a bottomless stomach...
🧇 [WAFFLE] Using shape language, how would you redesign your OC?
fuck if I know.
🧀 [CHEESE WEDGE] How often does your OC get into situations that rely on pure luck/miracles happening?
Lazarus: Way too often..
Eleazar: HE IS AVOIDING THESE SITUATIONS SPECIFICALLY.
🍹 [TROPICAL BEVERAGE] If your OC could go anywhere, where would it be?
Lazarus: Ancient Greece!
Eleazar: Ancient Greece. (for his twin)
🍔 [BURGER] What would your OC put on their burger?
Lazarus: so many pickles...
Eleazar: Whatever you are offering, he will put on it.
🍰 [CAKE SLICE] How does your OC change as you get to know them?
Lazarus: A little less awkward, more open. Softer than it seems.
Eleazar: He has more anxiety than you'd originally think...
🥧 [PIE] What's the longest journey your OC has gone on? What was it for? Did they succeed?
Lazarus: It went to Denmark one time that was neat.
Eleazar: IRELAND. For survival, and he survived so I'd say he succeeded.
🌻 [SUNFLOWER] Where would your OC get lost in the moment/beauty of the place?
Botanical garden, both of em.
💐 [BOUQUET] If you could send your OC a bouquet, what flowers would make it up and what is the overall message
I would send Eleazar a bouquet that represents forgiveness and new beginnings and I would send Lazarus all the pink flowers in the world cause it needs some colour in its life.
🌾 [RICE SHEAF] How picky is your OC with food? What will and won't they eat?
Neither are picky.
🍈 [MELON] If they had to be put into a box, what box would it be and why?
Lazarus: Resurrection.
Eleazar: Like a nice soft velvet box maybe..
🍏 [GREEN APPLE] How do they differ from the norm and how are they punished for it?
Lazarus literally died on account of being magical. Eleazar has to hide and suppress his magic and religion even now that he IS immortal just because its safer.
🍐 [PEAR] What is their current social standing? If they could change it, would they, and to what?
Lazarus: ????
Eleazar: Poor but he's managing. He'd like to be a nice middle upperclass but alas.
🥒 [CUCUMBER] How innocent are they (unaware to the bad happenings around them)?
LOL. They are not. They're both VERY aware. Lazarus is only innocent in the sex sense.
🥬 [LEAFY GREEN] How mundane are they? Do they like it that way?
Lazarus: Not very, but kind of hard to be when you're blue.
Eleazar: He tries to come off as mundane but he definitely isn't lol
🥦 [BROCCOLI] What do they hate about humanity/their species?
Lazarus: Humanity's inability to understand those unlike them + it has met some egotistical reapers. SHUT UP about being better than others.
Eleazar: Humanity's greed.
🥑 [AVOCADO] What will they never back down about, even if it makes them seem bad?
Lazarus: It doesn't care man I'm ngl.
Eleazar: That reapers and fate know nothing of the woes of the people who Actually contribute to the universe.
🥝 [KIWI FRUIT] How does their outside appearance differ from who they are?
Lazarus: It looks unapproachable, it is.
Eleazar: He looks very nice and calm, he is very nice and calm (lying)
🌿 [HERB] Is your OC religious? What do they believe in?
Yes, Finalism.
☘️ [SHAMROCK] How passionate is your OC about things they love/hate?
Lazarus: Not Very.
Eleazar: TOO MUCH.
🍀 [FOUR LEAF CLOVER] Would your OC spend hours looking for a four leaf clover?
No.
🌲 [EVERGREEN] What does your OC's dream treehouse look like? What tree is it built upon?
They have the same dream treehouse: One of those really old really tall oak trees and the treehouse would have a bunk bed for them to share and a nice window view.

Lazarus: Nap
Eleazar: Feed the ducks!

Lmaooo I feel like I'm a broken record atp.
🌵 [CACTUS] How physically resilient is your OC?
Lazarus: Very!
Eleazar: Immortal yes, but still kinda weak
🍵 [GREEN TEA] What's your OC's preferred flavour of tea, if they even drink it?
Lazarus: As sweet as possible.
Eleazar: Fruit teas.
🍸 [COCKTAIL] When was the first time your OC had an alcoholic beverage? What did they think of it?
Lazarus: Recently, it was fine.. It didn't like it that much.
Eleazar: For his fifteenth birthday and he had rum and it was so gross.
🌱 [SEEDLING] What new passions/hates is your OC discovering?
Lazarus: It hates woodworking, don't ask.
Eleazar: Religious history.. And sewing.
🌴 [PALM TREE] What are the stops on your OC's dream cruise? What boat are they on?
They have never thought about this whatsoever.
🌸 [CHERRY BLOSSOM] Does your OC believe in legends/myths?
Lazarus: Only the ones that are actually real. But it used to love the Greek myths..

Yes!

Lazarus: It is not tricked into this at all anymore.
Eleazar: A little easily.. He tries to keep an eye out but he just wants to help people.
🍇 [GRAPES] What's their circle of people/their species like? What dynamic would they be called?
Lazarus: Does not have one.
Eleazar: He keeps a close group of friends and he's very close to his family. But he bounces around groups and talks to lots of people.
🍩 [DONUT] What is your OC's biggest flaw? How do they deal with it? Do they deal with it?
Lazarus: It's apathy. It doesn't care.
Eleazar: The fact he holds grudges easily.. And he tries to deal with it! Its just really hard.
🍮 [CUSTARD] Expensive restaurants or cheap store-brand microwave meals?
Cheaper better.
🎂 [BIRTHDAY CAKE] How does your OC celebrate their birthday? With who, and where?
Lazarus: Every year, it would celebrate its birthday by changing its face to reflect its twin's growing up. So that they'd always match, looks the same in age.
Eleazar: He spends it with his parents usually, sometimes a few friends.
🥔 [POTATO] What do they have that others see as a flaw, but they don't care about?
Lazarus: Also its apathy.
Eleazar: I think he would have a panic attack if someone pointed out his flaws.

Perfect Tuesday!
Been trying to do a weekly positivity thing called Perfect Tuesdays where I am determined to have a good day, no matter how I have to twist things in my mind to justify them being good. It's been pretty useful! I missed a couple weeks because I forgor, but this week I'm back at it.
Original post complete with disclaimers for what this is and isn't: https://invisiblefoxfire.tumblr.com/post/749823249934860288/im-initiating-a-new-weekly-tradition-called
Join me and tag your posts so I can read about your perfect Tuesdays!
And now for today, 16 July 2024.
It's a bit of a challenge mode Tuesday this week because of the intense heat wave in my non-air-conditioned country and the health issues that causes me. But I have managed to find bright sides throughout the day!
Had an doctor's appointment this morning with a doctor who clearly knows her stuff and actually cares and takes my issues seriously. She had some test results for me which didn't contain any answers but also didn't contain any bad news. I'm now scheduled for some more tests which may help shed some light on what's going on with my body.
Today happened to be my injection day (yay HRT!) so while I was there, the nurse just did it for me, saving me the time and stress of doing it myself!
In the bathroom before I left the doctor's office, I took a good look at myself in the mirror and noticed that I've definitely put on some muscle 💪 and my gut is looking a little less pronounced. (The pattern of fat on my body made me look pregnant, and that finally seems to be going away a bit.)
Although it's crazy hot out this week, the appointment was early enough in the day that I was able to walk home from the doctor without melting!
I got a couple of errands done along the way, which included finding my favorite pretzels at a shop I didn't know sold them (I thought I had to travel a lot further to find them).
At my final stop, I got an ice cream, then instead of going straight home, I went to the park for a bit and found a bench in the shade to sit and eat it.
There were some ants at my feet! Ants were probably my earliest special interest and they still bring me joy. I gave them a bit of ice cream cone and watched one of them freak out at the find.
Been recording footage for a video for over a year now, and today I got all but the very last bit of it done. I might do the final bit tonight if it cools off a little, but if not, it'll be done tomorrow! This is huge, I've been working on this for SO LONG.

🎵 Song: Best of Me by BTS 🎵
Tumblr media
As Igawa finished sending a message, he pocketed his phone and lifted his gaze to see Tenma still eyeing the rack of keychains in the back corner of the store. The bags with sweet treats they had picked up still hung from Tenma’s wrist as he stood there, one hand on his hip and one on his chin, clearly trying to find something.
After shooting wrapped up, they went to one of the local bakeries to buy some souvenirs for Tenma’s theatre troupe. It was something he had taken the habit of doing and while he was surprised by it at first, Igawa was fast to encourage this new development; after the first time, he always made sure that whenever the boy had a shoot out of town or overseas, they would always be able to find a moment in their schedule so that he could buy something he could bring back.
They had been doing some window shopping after successfully purchasing the treats when Tenma stopped in front of one of the stores and insisted on going inside.
If he had to venture a guess, Igawa would say that the object that had originally caught Tenma’s attention was the small bonsai keychain that now dangled from in between his fingers. He couldn’t help the small smile that bloomed in his face at that; Tenma’s love for bonsai, while strange in the eyes of his peers for a boy his age, was actually something Igawa himself had grown incredibly fond of since it was one of the topics (besides acting) that actually made Tenma ramble with excitement. Since he had already had his hands on it, though, Igawa had an inkling as to what he was now searching for.
After a few minutes, and having four more keychains in his hands, Tenma strode towards the register. As he placed the items on the counter, Igawa could see that his hunch had been spot-on. Tenma threw a quick glance his way and he must have seen the way in which his manager was fighting back a smile because he quickly spoke up:
“They would just bug me later if I only got one for myself.”
“Of course, Tenma,” he replied with a small nod. It was an excuse but Igawa knew better than to try to get Tenma to admit it, so he didn’t press for more.
As his eyes inspected each of the designs as the cashier rang them up, he understood what had taken the boy so long when he was picking them. He could tell exactly which one would go to each person just by looking at them. Igawa admittedly didn’t know the members of the Summer Troupe very well, but he had gathered quite a bit of information from his conversations with Tenma.
Next to the small bonsai tree, there was a little white kitten wearing a pink bonnet;
“Dammit,” Tenma clicked his tongue seeing the traffic-jam they were stuck in. “I know it’s frustrating but can’t you let them know that you’ll be late for rehearsals?” Igawa spared a glance his way and saw that Tenma was already typing something on his phone. “Yeah, but that’s not the problem,” he grumbled. “We are trying on the new costumes today and Yuki’s already difficult enough normally. I don’t need to give him another excuse to call me- a hack, oh for the love of-.” Judging from the exasperated tone in his voice and the quick typing that followed, Igawa could guess what response Tenma had received and he tried his best to squash down his amusement before commenting again. “Yuki? That’s….Rurikawa, right? You mentioned he’s in charge of making all of the company’s costumes? He did a really good job for your debut performance.” After seeing the state in which the theatre was, a part of him had honestly been worried about the production quality, but he had been blown away by it and the costumes were one of the things that had impressed him the most. “Yeah,” Tenma sighed before putting his phone down. “I hate to admit it, but the kid’s got some real talent in that department and he has potential in acting as well. Now if only he could do something about that snarky attitude of his,” Tenma complained but Igawa could hear the tint of fondness that hid in his tone behind his initial annoyance.
next to it, there was a pink crown with white and gold accents;
“Is that a new script?” Igawa asked when he saw the manilla envelope resting on Tenma’s lap once he entered the car. He knew Tenma wasn’t scheduled to shoot anything soon but it wouldn’t be long until the Summer Troupe started their rehearsals for their new play. “No, this is one of dad’s old scripts.” Seeing the surprise on his face, Tenma added: “I asked him if I could lend it to one of my troupe mates and he agreed.” “Oh?” “Yeah, remember when dad had to play that prince character in a drama?” He did remember; that performance had earned Mr Sumeragi a couple of awards when he was just starting his career. At Igawa’s hum of affirmation, Tenma continued: “Well, one of my troupe members wants to act in a similar role in the future, so I thought giving this a look would help him have a more concrete idea of what it’s like.” Igawa nodded with a smile. “His acting and his presence on stage still need some work, but I think reading this can not only motivate him but also give him some inspiration since it has all the annotations dad made on it when he used it.” Tenma was using that determined and straightforward tone that often laced his voice whenever he spoke about anything related to acting; it reminded him that despite his young age, he was a professional through and through. One thing that had always been true about Tenma was that he was a perfectionist and someone incredibly proud of his work; because of that, he expected that everyone met the same standards he had for himself. That hadn’t changed after he started performing with Mankai, but the way he went about it when talking to his colleagues was definitely different and he was now seeing exactly where it rooted from.
next to that one, there was probably the most unique keychain of the bunch: a small almost translucent triangle protractor,
“Is that homework?” Igawa asked as he closed the door of the trailer. Tenma paused his furious scribbling when he heard his manager’s question and the guilty darting of his eyes told the answer before he even opened his mouth. “......no…...I’ll do it after I finish this!” he scrambled to answer. Igawa sighed a bit in response; Tenma hated doing his school work and usually he would push him to work on it but since he knew that there was a professional tutor in the dorms that could help him, he decided to let him off the hook this time.
“So, what were you writing then?”
“Oh!” Tenma’s eyes lit up at the question. “I just thought up a few ideas I want to try out the next time we have to do street acts. Some of them are a bit advanced but I think Misumi and I could pull them off.” “Really?” he inquired, sitting across from the boy and taking a sip from his coffee. “Yeah.” he shook his head as he closed the notebook. “Misumi’s talent is kinda terrifying; if we could do something to help him focus more, he could probably be as good as me.” Igawa’s eyebrows shot up at that since Tenma was not one to give out praise freely to anyone. If he recalled correctly, Ikuraga’s performance had probably been the second best on their show next to Tenma’s, so while he was shocked by the admission, he could definitely see where the actor was coming from. “I didn’t know you started putting stickers on your things.” Igawa pointed out when his gaze fell on the notebook. “What? No, I don’t-” Tenma exclaimed but stopped himself when his eyes landed on the stickers that adorned the back of his notebook. An ice-cream cone, a slice of watermelon and onigiri surrounded a bigger yellow triangle that had a few words scribbled on with a marker. Twisting his neck, he was able to make out the words: “Good luck, Tenma~~!! (*^▽^*)”
and, finally, there was a paint pallet with a small brush dipped in green paint.
“Yes, yes, I’ll ask him about it. Yes, mom, I won’t forget. Okay, bye.”
“Everything okay?” Igawa asked once Tenma hung up, his eyes focused on the road. “Huh?” the boy asked absentmindedly as he opened another app on his phone. “Yeah, it’s nothing serious. She told me she wants a copy of the poster of Water Me! since it was our first performance. I told her that they already had the flyer with the picture but she says it’s too small, so I told her that I could probably ask Kazunari to make another copy since he’s the one that designed the final version.” He was trying to act nonchalant about it, but Igawa could hear the pride in his voice, happy that his parents were openly acknowledging and accepting his theatre career.
“It is an important milestone,” the manager nodded and then added. ”And it was a beautiful poster.” Tenma hummed in agreement. “Yeah, Kazunari can be obnoxious as hell but he’s got a real eye for design. All of the company’s posters and our website are a testament to that,” he admitted as he scrolled on his phone. “He’s probably gonna be over the moon once I ask him for a copy.” They had arrived at the dorms so Igawa could see Tenma rolling his eyes in what could be mistaken for exasperation were it not for the slight smile on his face. He had seen Kazunari Miyoshi once after their first (eventful) meeting and in that occasion the older boy had Tenma in a side hug while they took a selfie together and what had caught Igawa’s attention was that despite the fact that Tenma didn’t really like taking selfies with people (besides the occasional fan), the protests that came from his mouth were half-hearted at best and it didn’t take long for him to settle and smile for the picture. After it was taken, he could hear Miyoshi saying he would caption it with “Nothing better than some Ice-cream after rehearsals with TenTen!!”
Each of the keychains had gold chains and gold borders and detailing, making it obvious that they were part of the same set despite the wide variety of designs.
As the employee put them all in separate bags after Tenma told her they were gifts, Igawa couldn’t stop the smile that tugged at the corners of his mouth nor the fondness that seeped through his voice when he said: “I’m sure they’ll love them.”
The actor just shrugged in response. “Of course they will,” he replied with confidence but his manager could see the redness in the tips of his ears.
Tenma had always been a good kid. Arrogant and too blunt at times, yes, but never with the intention of hurting others. However, being in the spotlight from such a young age had isolated him from his peers and his parents' constant travelling only served to make him build even more walls around himself; be confident and keep your head up, your work is what matters, that was the motto by which Tenma lived his life and that was a big detriment in any interpersonal relationships he could have formed. But now, seeing him fuss over which souvenirs to bring to his friends, the deep mark the Mankai Company left on him was glaringly obvious.
He remembered the genuine concern he showed when his parents wanted him to quit. It was one of the few times he saw Tenma’s eyes tainted with fear; and at first, Igawa had thought he had been afraid of the possibility that this project he had worked so hard towards would be crushed, but later on he learned that it was more than that, it was the fear of having to let go of the people who had managed to bring down his walls and had put their all in supporting him so he could turn his past regrets into victories.
Tenma had never looked happier than he did now and that translated to his acting as well; he still carried himself with confidence but now there was also a lightness to his steps that wasn’t there before. Igawa knew that Mankai and the Summer Troupe probably didn’t really understand how much they had truly helped Tenma become a better version of himself in every sense but he would forever be thankful for it.

Rain Trolls Human AU Prompt
[Prompt – Imagine your OTP getting stuck in the rain. Person A wants to kiss Person B like in the movies, Person B just wants to go home cause they’re cold and miserable, they let Person A kiss them quickly anyway.] - Okay so I deviated a wee bit from the prompt, but not much! ;) This is a joint sort of piece with @duskblue-art! We’re doing this writing prompt thing and so, hers and mine were born. ;) Anyone else wanna give it a shot?
Like most people, Branch hated Mondays. Actually, he hated everyday equally but Mondays really drove him up the wall. Why? Well, it wasn’t just Mondays, it was this particular Monday in late June. He stared at the steel bars of the large gate, eyes blank, and determined he really shouldn’t have come. He hadn’t visited her in 2 years what was the point in visiting now? But something compelled the tall, black haired man to shoulder open the gate and step onto the familiar gravel path. The gate squeaked closed behind him and he lifted his head back to look at the cloudy, gray sky with a glare.
Even the fucking weather was against him! If there was anything Branch hated more than Monday, it was rain. Rain caused people to get sick! Well, actually, the stupidity of people caused people to get sick….But it was the rain that seeped into their skin and stole their warmth like a dwindling flame. It was rain that caused depression, forcing someone to stay inside until they lost their minds. Branch scowled as he jerked the hood of his hoodie up above his big ears and stuffed his hands into the middle pocket, slouching forward along the path he didn’t even need to see. He had walked it so many times, he couldn’t forget it.
No matter how hard he had tried.
He stared around the desolate, empty hills that held nothing but silence. Silence and the smell of the grass as it prepared for rain and did Branch mention he hates rain? He kicked a large pebble off the path and sadistically grinned when he heard a bird chirp in annoyance. He walked steadily, letting his eyes rove the place he had spent countless days – and nights, though the patrols never knew about those – in his childhood.
A light, foggy mist tickled the ground but Branch just kept walking. The trees were lush and green creating a serene scene that hid the dark, morbidity of the actual truth. This place was anything but serene. He clenched his hands into fists so hard he felt his nails break the fragile skin of his palm. This place was horrible with it’s green trees, rolling hills, fountain in the dead centre that the children usually played in, and the scattered benches where he remembered spending days licking ice cream cones with –
Nope, fuck, not going down that road, not today! But even though he assured himself, the flash of pink hair and magenta eyes haunted him down that gravel path until he veered off to the right, off the path and towards the largest, oldest oak tree in the entire park.
He felt the blood pooling in his fists and with blank, pain-etched eyes, Branch bent slowly to the ground. He lifted a bloodied hand out to touch the worn, cold gray stone, whispering, “Hi Grandma.”
A light, cool breeze wafted through the park-cemetery and ruffled Branch’s black locks. If he wasn’t a pessimistic dickhead he could let himself believe that the wind was his Grandma’s hand on his head, like she used to do when he was younger, when he was happier…..But he was a pessimistic dickhead so he didn’t dare believe his grandma was anything but dead, dead, dead. Dead as the day the 14 year old watched her be slowly lowered into this very plot. The day his soul faded to an empty gray and the rain never stopped falling inside his heart.
It rained the day she died. It rained the day he buried her. It was about to rain now the first time he came back to this fucking, stupid piece-of-crap town to visit her in over 12 years. Branch couldn’t escape the rain, he couldn’t escape it’s cold grip on him, and with a roar, he slammed his fist into the softened Earth. Then again. And again. Until he couldn’t stop, even when his knuckles throbbed and he was cursing with every hit. Not even when he felt the snake-like mist wrap around his body, white and cool, and even when the gray clouds darkened.
He collapsed, finally, onto his knees with tightly closed ice blue eyes and a firmly clasped jaw. He could hear his teeth rubbing together and his hands couldn’t unclench from the fists. For a moment, he sat there, breathing heavily through his nostrils, eyes closed tight and jaw grinding.
She’s gone Branch, get the fuck over it. She’s gone….And it’s all your fault.
There were so many emotions building up inside him and when he threw his head back, he let out a loud roar of pain before his eyes fell to that cold stone. Cold. His grandma had always been warm, happy, smiling. She didn’t deserve to be in that plot of Earth with that horrible gray reminder all that was left of her. It should have been Branch in that hole. It should have been….! But it wasn’t and Branch finally felt the hot tears sliding down his cheeks.
“Well, fuck. Not like I’m ever coming back here anyway….This is it Grandma. I’m never coming back, so what’s a few fucking tears from your worthless grandson, huh?”
And then they weren’t just tears. Branch felt his heart leap into his throat and the sobs that tore from his vocal folds were ones of a deep, soul-aching pain. But the park-cemetery – who even made a park and cemetery the same thing!? - was empty. No one was there to hear the shattering soul or the broken heart and to be honest, Branch was fucking grateful. As soon as his sobs tore free, he heard the thunder echoing his own sounds.
He stared with blurry eyes at the writing on the stone and let his clenched hands slowly unfurl.
“Grandma” Rosiepuff
June 24, 1926 – June 24, 2018
A Grandmother to all of Troll Village.
She will be dearly missed.
Rest beneath the boughs of the Troll Tree,
And always find your way back.
He let his now free fingers glide over the etched words of the date of her death. As if thrown back in time, Branch was lost to his own memories of that day.
It was her birthday. It was raining. And stupid fucking Branch had to go and forget his gift at school in his fucking locker. He couldn’t have waited until tomorrow. He wanted to show her the gift, show her he loved her like she loved him, show her he was grateful for her. He remembered begging her - “Please, Grams? If it’s not on your birthday, it doesn’t get count.” - and he remembered her voice, still so clear after so many years - “Okay Branch! Let’s go. And we can drop by the park and get some ice-cream too, how about that?” And his 14 year old response, “Do I look like I’m 5 to you?”
The laughter haunted him for moment, swirling around his mind on repeat.
He remembered his cobalt blue raincoat and teal blue boots. He remembered with a snarl the sound of the car starting – a beaten up piece of shit that barely drove and sounded like a train – and the way the tires squealed on the wet pavement as they pulled away. He remembered being in the back and fuck, why did he sit back there? He always sat up front, always. But no, he wanted to be an angsty little fuck and he was too old to sit with his Grandma in the front seat.
Then that stupid song – Eclipse of the Fucking Heart – had come on and the radio was too low for Branch to sing. He wanted her to turn it up, he wanted to sing. But he was a stupid shit and he didn’t stop to think that his 92 Grandma didn’t have the best sight or that she had accidentally run a red light trying to turn the volume up. But no matter what he did or didn’t forget, he knew the one thing he would die remembering: that scream of his name that made him go numb, that still rung in his ears.
The screeching of the truck, their car turning and tossing, and the rain. He remembered the smell of it, overpowering the smell of blood and metal and fire. Branch hadn’t realized he was fisting the grass until he ripped up chunks but his eyes were fast closed and he couldn’t open them, stuck in his memories. Of the sirens and the people. Of seeing his grandma in the front seat and wondering why she wasn’t moving, wondering why the radio was distorted, why there were people shouting and screaming.
He remembered Mayor Peppy’s voice and her voice calling for him. But all he could see was his grandma bent over that steering wheel, her arm out, and with a jolt, he realized her arm, her hand grasping his raincoat, was the only thing holding him in the back seat. He went to move her arm, uttering a quiet grandma, wondering why she wasn’t moving – dead, dead, dead.
He remembered touching her back and she lolled to the side, her side twisted and Branch didn’t notice the blood at first – after all these years, he could still feel it on his hands. All he noticed were those wide open, unseeing eyes as they looked right at him. He remembered shaking her, his voice rising more and more into a wail, before he was jerked from the car and into arms that held him tightly. He cried and sobbed and screamed into that shoulder where pink tresses tickled his nose and the smell of watermelon and cotton candy filled his nostrils.
They had pulled her from the car but Branch knew, holding tight to Poppy’s hand and watching his Grandma’s unmoving body that she was gone. The round Mayor Peppy looked back at him with soft, symphatehtic eyes so much like his daughter and Branch felt the cold gray swallow him whole. Everyone said he didn’t but he did. He killed his grandma. For what? A fucking gift. A song. The rain was dangerous and why the hell would –
“Branch?”
He wasn’t sure if it was the way he froze or the spot she recognized but a moment later, he felt her hand on his shoulder, squeezing firmly. “It’s been a long time, huh bud? Well, for you. I mean, I come here all the time! To say hi! And Dad does too. Actually the whole town does and oh just last year we held a little –“
“I’m not in the mood for your shit today, Poppy!”
She was instantly quiet and Branch didn’t give a fuck. She could go huff off and maybe this time she would get the hint and leave him the hell alone.
“You never responded to my invitations.” Or not.
Branch’s eyes went wide and he turned to look up at her with an exasperated frown. “Those glittery atrocities were from you? Of course they were. Felt, glitter. Should have known; it had Poppy written all over it.”
“It did, really!? I didn’t write –“
He sighed and began to unsteadily rise to his feet. Poppy’s hand on his shoulder fell to his arm and the warmth from her gave him a bit more strength. “Sarcasm. I thought you were getting better when I left….What –“
“Ice-cream!”
He yelped when her grip turned deadly tight and the tiny slip of a girl pulled him, dragging, behind her. He had to lean down slightly so she could even actually reach him and he stared after the girl he had known since they were babies. Her pink locks were longer and thicker. He didn’t even want to know when she had made the felt flower headband that wrapped around her. She was wearing light blue jeans, her usual rainbow sneakers, and a bright pink hoodie.
She was taller now, leaner, but with a smirk he reached up a finger to poke her side. Her squeal made him chuckle and she smacked his finger away. “Yes I’m still ticklish, don’t even Branch! I know your weak spots!”
Branch raised an eyebrow but said nothing. She dragged them down the gravel path with no hesitation. When he saw the familiar parked white truck off to the side of the path, he pulled back and Poppy stopped. Looking back, she must have seen his face because she gripped his arm.
“Branch, buddy, hey it’s okay. It’s just ice-cream. I’ll buy you double chocolate?” Her grin was infuriating.
His blush said everything and she giggled, pulling him up to the ice cream truck and he frowned, crossing his arms over his chest. He saw the quickly moving, darkening clouds as the man in the truck prepared their orders – he didn’t need to listen to know what she had ordered: double chocolate for him with two strawberries on top and a rainbow ice cream with sprinkles, gummi bears, and three pumps of strawberry and caramel sauces – and Branch’s mouth tilted downwards. It was going to rain.
As soon as Poppy had their orders in hand, Branch ushered her along and barely giving her enough time to pay the guy before she was pattering behind him. Branch kept a close watch on the sky as he herded them towards the sheltered gazebo next to the fountain in the middle of the park.
“Uh, Branch…..”
At her wide eyes, he followed her gaze to a couple of feet behind them just in time to see the sheets of rain falling onto Troll Town. With a curse, he grabbed her arm gently and pulled her along, the both of them racing towards the gazebo. Poppy’s giggles made him shout incredulously, “We’re about to be pelted by a huge ass rain storm and you’re laughing!?”
“I love the rain!”
As soon as they were inside the gazebo, Branch leaned over his knees, panting, and he heard Poppy settling down onto the stone floor of the gazebo. It was circular and not very big but he desperately looked anywhere but at her as he straightened up. He would rather fucking stand than sit that close to her. But then she said the taboo words, “I guess I’ll have to eat this double chocolate ice-cream all by myself then….”
“You get your fingers off my ice-cream.”
With a flop, he was sitting next to her, nestling out the storm as he grabbed his ice-cream and a spoon she held out to him, shovelling in a few mouthfuls with a glare. Poppy only grinned and settled against him, their legs laid out in front of them and their arms touching. He had almost forgotten how she smelled but there was no way to get rid of the imprint of her now. Her sweet scent had occupied one too many of his dreams as a teen and with a flush, he remembered his grand declaration to Poppy in front of her Dad and his Grandma, “One day, Poppy and I are gonna get married!”
He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye. She was scarfing down her concoction with a speed that had him feeling sick and he set his ice-cream down, no longer feeling the gooey, cold treat. He pulled one knee up to his chest and watched the falling rain. Everything was soaked. Water dripped and poured from every crevice, crack, and hole. The trees were glittering and Branch could see the heavy drops hitting the ground with a visible pop.
“Do you ever just wanna go back sometimes? To when we were kids?”
Branch jumped, surprised to hear the soft tone of her voice. Poppy wasn’t ever quiet. “No, why the fuck would I want that?”
She only continued to stare out at the rain, her head cocked to the side, but he was thankful – no, not thankful, not thankful!! - he didn’t see any sadness on her features. She was too beau – Okay no more ice-cream, the sweetness was making him delirious.
“We knew what we wanted back then, and….” She smiled softly. “And it was easier to get it. To know that we wanted it.”
Branch was confused. Poppy confused him, a lot – okay, all the time – but this was new. This was a contemplative Poppy. And contemplative Poppy he didn’t know how to deal with so he coughed awkwardly and tried to give her the best advice he could. “Nothing’s changed. It’s just what you want has changed. And it’s become harder to get what you wanted.”
Poppy blinked and then asked him, bluntly and causing his head to reel, “Why didn’t you accept my invitations?”
Branch opened and closed his mouth, trying to say something, anything, but what could he say? The truth: I never came to a single one of your parties or reunions or what the fuck nots because I’m an asshole? Yeah he could say that….Glancing at her, his breath caught. She was staring rather softly at the rain, almost forlorn but not quite, and her smile was not the beaming grin he was used to. This smile was gentle, lilting, and not at all the rainbows and cupcakes girl he remembered leaving behind.
“I kept them all.”
WHAT!? Branch paused, frozen, eyes wide. He did NOT just say that!? And not to Poppy! Oh fuck! So he just admitted to the girl he had loved since he opened his eyes that he kept all 12 year invitations – something close to like 800 of them, but he definitely wasn’t counting! - and she was silent. Was that good or bad?
“Hey Branch….Do you still hate the rain?”
His mind stopped working and his heart dropped to his feet. He looked out at the falling drops and remembered his Grandma, remembered the screaming between him and the girl next to him, soaked, and tears pouring from her eyes as he walked out of Troll Town for the last time. That had been so long ago. And now, she wanted answers. Was he ready to give them to her?
“Yeah.” He answered softly, afraid his voice would crack.
As he saw the rain beginning lighten up, Branch began to stand as he told the girl he loved for a second time, “Well, it was great. But I gotta go back to Bergan Town now. Have a great life, Poppy.”
Rain or not, he was getting the fuck out of there before he did something stupid! But he was  rooted to the spot when he had just reached the edge of the gazebo and Poppy threw herself out and into the rain, her arms spread wide to keep him from running. With a snarl, he yanked her dripping, shivering form back under the gazebo’s shelter and threw his hoodie over his head with lightning speed. His black tee stuck to his skin but he didn’t care. Using his hoodie, Branch hurriedly dabbed at Poppy’s wet form.
He couldn’t help the angry bite, “Why did you do that for!? You’re gonna get sick, Poppy, for fucks sake!”
She said nothing but only shivered and it wasn’t until he finally looked down and met her eyes that the world stopped spinning.
The first thing he registered was that the rain was still falling. He could hear it’s familiar, yet much softer, pitter-patter as it hit the ground. The second thing he registered were the cold, wet hands gripping his cheeks and the bottom of his jaw. The third most unbelievable and heart pounding thing were the soft, warm lips pressed against his own. It took a total deduction of 2 seconds before Branch groaned – he had lost the war a long time ago – and grabbed Poppy’s hips, bringing her flush against him.
And he titled his head, kissing her deeper and she responded by stroking her thumbs over his cheek bones. He never noticed when the sun started breaking through the clouds or the gentle rain slowly fading to nothing. He never noticed his hoodie drop from Poppy’s shoulders to the floor. All he could feel was her and when she finally pulled away, leaving a hairs breadth between them, he finally opened his eyes to the Sun, her smile all cupcakes and rainbows and happiness.
“What about now?”
Her breathless question stirred him to life and the gray rain clouds finally, years later, fled from that teen boy’s eyes. Branch smiled, pure and wide, and brought an arm around her waist to lift her slightly off the ground. Her eyes went wide and she squeaked, wrapping her arms around his neck as their lips grazed each other’s gently.
Branch didn’t answer. He didn’t need to. She already knew. With a desperation he hadn’t known until now, Branch leaned down that last gap and brought his lips to hers in a firm, unyielding kiss. His happiness had never been inside him. It had always been with the pink-haired girl who was now kissing him with everything she had. And yeah, okay, so maybe the rain wasn’t that bad and maybe he could learn to love it after all.

NOTES: Welcome to the little celebration of Yule we cooked up to tie in with Olaf's Frozen Adventure! More than anything, Elsa and I wanted to bring the focus to Yule and the vigil held on the first night, which is both historically what the sisters would have been celebrating, and also is the strongest of holiday imagery in the animated short itself. Not to mention that the underappreciated festivities are very personally important to Elsa and her pagan heritage, so the missed opportunity to see it explored in OFA made us both want to do something about it.
And of course, what would the holidays be without an Elsanna twist? We hope you enjoy and have a good season yourself, no matter what or how you celebrate!
-Dragonxborne and Jessex
As the moonlight hit the wondrous ice tree, Queen Elsa couldn't help but feel happier than she could ever remember feeling. After all, there she was amongst her people, who had all joined her and her sister, Princess Anna, in the search for their wayward snowman son, Olaf. Every single one of them had set aside their own family traditions to come out and help find him — the son which she and Anna had discovered was their own Yule tradition.
Perhaps it was the season, or the magic in the air, but Elsa couldn't help the stupid grin on her face. Overcome with the moment, she scooped Olaf up and held him close, her free hand finding Anna's and lacing their fingers together.
"I think we've had enough forest exploration for one night, and I don't know about you, but I am looking forward to lighting the Yule log!" She looked over at Anna and smiled. "What about you? Would you like to join me?"
"You'd better believe it!" Anna chirruped in a dreamy voice, gazing off into the distance as she imagined what it would be like. "I've never lit one before! Well, I mean we had one, but we didn't actually get to use it, or do the vigil. So it doesn't count, right?"
"Yes, the Yule log!" Olaf chimed in with his overly excited voice. "…what's that?"
Elsa let out a chuckle. "Well, Olaf, the Yule log is a long-standing tradition of our people. On the first night of Yuletide, we burn a log from an oak tree, using the remains of last year's log to get the fire started. The wood is supposed to burn all night; it symbolizes how there can still be light even in the darkest of times. Its fire rekindles the sun for the year to come and brings us prosperity. So you see, it's very important that this year, we join our people in fueling the morning sun, since this is our first Yule since opening the gates."
Olaf's face lit up in wonder and he clapped his little twig-hands. "Yay for contributing! And controlling the weather, I think!"
"Don't worry, little guy," Anna giggled as she smoothed over his snowy cheek with her free hand. "You don't have to join in; we both remember how much fun fire is for you."
His expression fell as he realised what she meant. "That's true. I can't even enjoy a good sauna."
"You just won't get too close, Olaf; you can still celebrate with us for a little while," Elsa assured him with a grin. "As long as you're careful."
"Oh!" This seemed to appease the whimsical snowman. "Splendid! I can celebrate from a distance!"
The walk home seemed longer than the walk out, but one could attribute that to the excitement hanging in the air with every step. As they walked, half the population of Arendelle following along in their wake, Anna began to sing a traditional Yule song quietly at first. Then a few more people joined in until they were practically wassailing without anyone to give them wassail. Her cheeks bunched with joy as she glanced at her big sister, thrilled to death that they were together for this holiday.
Her smile, and of course the song, were certainly contagious. Elsa couldn't help but join in as well. Olaf didn't know the words, but that didn't stop him from making up his own to the same tune. That made the walk go much faster and they were back within the town in no time. Happy faces shone from the people waving and saying their goodbyes to the royals before returning to their own celebrations.
Now at the front gates to the castle, Olaf jumped out of the queen's arms and sprinted towards home. "I'm gonna put my bowtie on for the Yule log!" he exclaimed, promptly disappearing into the large residence. "This is gonna be the best Yule ever!"
Elsa chuckled and shook her head. She could only hope to be half as happy as he was some day. And speaking of her joy in life…
"Anna, will you be joining me tonight? For the vigil?" she asked sheepishly. For no reason in particular, too; it's not as if Anna hadn't spent her whole life trying to close distances with Elsa.
"What? Of course I will! I've wanted to try a vigil with you since we were little!" Scuffing her boot on the stone walkway, she added, "Of course, we were too little to stay up for it; I would always eat too much and be asleep before our parents would even light the log. So it's great that we might finally stay up this year!"
Sleepless nights had never been a stranger to Elsa, so it wasn't a stretch for her to spend one more evening wide awake. At least tonight her insomnia would be part of a better tradition than just her crippling depression.
As she rounded the corner into the large room with the magnificent fire place, she was pleased to see the Yule log already prepared for them, dressed with pine cones and holly, and the remnants of the previous year's log resting in the fireplace itself. "Boy, that looks heavy," she mused, side-eyeing Anna with a grin. "I think I'm going to require my sister's help to hoist this into the flames. Care to join me?"
Anna pretended to roll up both her sleeves. "Just leave it to me! I'm stronger than a dozen reindeer! More powerful than a bellowing brown bear!" Then she bent down to begin hoisting the log… and nothing happened. Several times, she heaved, and it barely shifted. "Um… yes, Elsa, I think I'll join you in lifting the log…"
Elsa had been watching with that little smirk she gets, and it had not faded when Anna met her gaze. She let out a chuckle and uncrossed her arms, approaching the log. "Well, thank you for the privilege, my dear sister. I'm so happy you've allowed me to take part."
The queen then got her grip on the log and smiled over at her sister, which had been a mistake if she were honest. Anna in the firelight? Gods, she was so gorgeous. The way the shadows and light danced across her skin, and her hair was simply glowing. Anna had to be the most gorgeous woman in all of Arendelle. How lucky Elsa was to call her "Family."
After a few seconds and a confused expression from her sister she snapped herself out of it. "Right." She cleared her throat. "On three?"
"Yep!" Anna said, wiggling her rear as she prepared to heft the log again. "Okay. One…. two… three!"
Together, they managed to struggle it up and into the fireplace, and it thudded down with a cloud of ash. The flue and fireplace were fairly clean most of the year, but during the winter it needed to be used so often that it couldn't always be spotless. The stirring of dust made Anna's weary smile of triumph scrunch up, and after a second or two she began to go "Ah… ahhh…"
The familiar sight stirred up a reaction Elsa hadn't quite intended, or expected for that matter. She found herself shouting "Watermelon!" at Anna — an old trick of theirs she hadn't used since they were little. It had often stopped Anna's sneezes, for whatever reason, and she couldn't believe that after all their time apart, it was still her go-to solution for the situation.
Almost exactly as all those years ago, Anna blinked at her and said "Ehh?" in mild surprise and confusion. Then she sniffled, shook her head violently, and rubbed at the end of her nose. "Ugh… what did you just do?"
"I… well to be honest, I have no idea." How could she best explain? "I used to do that when we were younger, do you remember? We would always go exploring those old rooms full of things the world hadn't seen in ages. Dust has never been your friend." She chuckled. "You would always sneeze three or four times in a row and I always felt so bad for how confused and dazed you looked afterwards. I can't remember why I shouted 'watermelon' the first time, but it worked and it became a part of exploring. You'd start to sneeze, I'd shout, and you would miraculously be saved from your turmoil."
Anna had fallen completely silent, standing and listening to her sister dig into their memories, enjoying them with her. A few seconds after she finished, she seemed to surface from a waking sleep and grinned. "I forgot all about that. But you're right, I remember now; I used to get mad that you were yelling it because I didn't know why, but I got over it because there was just… too much to do! So many rooms…" Her eyes flicked toward the door of the room, as if her mind was already roaming the halls again with her sister, poking into every nook and cranny of the castle.
"I remember you yelled at me for not yelling one time! Because you had eaten all the chocolate, so I let you suffer your sneezes as punishment. And you were so mad! 'Why didn't you yell watermelon, Elsa, whyyyyy?!'" Elsa was laughing so hard; it was quite the fond memory for her. How happy she was to be there, in a room with her sister, reminiscing about all the adventures they had as kids.
"Did I really do that? Wow, what a stinker I was!" Giggling herself, almost more at the way Elsa was giggling, she put an arm around her back - both to be closer to her sister and to help support her in case she happened to fall over. "Alright, so! We rang in the season, had our banquet… kinda, rescued Olaf from becoming a permanent part of the forest, and now we got the Yule log in there and burning! What's next? Does it involve more chocolate?"
"It certainly can!" Elsa grinned, recollecting herself from her laughing fit. "Now is the feast! We get to eat too much, and drink glogg, and enjoy our time together." Elsa then mused, "Would you like to help me with the most important part?"
"YES!" Anna yelped immediately. A second passed in warm silence, both sisters smiling at each other. Then Anna leaned a little closer to whisper, "And… what part is that? I mean, I don't want to assume, and pick the wrong part, and then you're like, 'Anna, why are you roasting chestnuts when we're supposed to be making a quilt?'" Her impression of Elsa was fairly close, even if it sounded a little deeper than it should have. Then she softly added, "If… either of those are even things we're supposed to be doing tonight."
With a roll of her eyes, Elsa raised a hand to cup Anna's cheek, a thumb sliding gingerly over the soft skin. The redhead couldn't seem to help leaning into her big sister's touch. How many years had she spent wishing they could be this close again? Not only that, but it had been almost a year since they reunited, and only in the past few months did Elsa feel confident enough in her control of the ice magic to discard her ever-present gloves. It warmed her heart both to be so close with her and to know she was feeling more freedom to be herself. To not hide her power away anymore.
"No, Anna. The most important part of the feast is setting out a plate of food for our ancestors." Elsa paused. "For Mama and Papa."
"Mama and Papa…" The melancholy tempered the joy of being together, and her smile turned a little wistful. "I hope they like our Yule meal. Wherever they are; Valhalla, I hope."
"Do you remember that time we decided to make cookies for them? We tried so hard and we just ended up with disks of dough you could break rocks with." Elsa chuckled, and Anna snorted along with her, raising a hand to rest on Elsa's where it caressed her face. "But that didn't stop them from trying to eat them. Papa soaked his in milk for a solid five minutes and managed not to break a tooth."
"Guess we're never going to be gourmet chefs," Anna laughed with her. "Oh well."
Elsa's gaze turned towards the family portrait hanging just above the fireplace. Gods, how she missed them. They weren't perfect, but no one is; their missteps in trying to raise their daughters never made her miss them any less.
"We have to remember to set out some chocolate for Mama. It was her favourite."
Pulling herself together, the blonde set about making her way to the room where they had so much food ready to go. The party from earlier that day being a bust wasn't so bad, after all they had plenty for a few days, and the feast was already here for the vigil.
"Look at all this," Anna sighed a little dejectedly, eyes sweeping the many tables laden down with festive dishes. "Not even Kristoff can help us finish off all this stuff! Where is it all gonna go?"
"I'm at a loss." Crossing her arms in thought, Elsa sighed, also eyeing the vast expanses of her food kingdom. Arendelle wasn't a poor kingdom; they didn't have a problem with the destitute. But there were families with less than others. "My best suggestion would be to make an announcement tomorrow that if anyone is in need, they are welcome to collect some food here in the castle, but other than that, Anna? I don't know about you, but I can not eat all of this before it spoils. Even with the help of Kristoff and Sven."
Mildly peeved at her mistake in assuming everyone would join them for a meal, or moreover the lack of foresight that they would have their own traditions, Elsa grabbed a porcelain plate and set about making a meal for their ancestors. Anna joined her, making little suggestions and helping to pile it high for them. They joked and laughed at the idea of building a mountain of the food and sledding down the side, since they really didn't know what else to do with so much.
Finally, the plate was ready, and Anna wiped her forehead with the back of her wrist. "Alright! That looks good enough for any spirit ancestor, if you ask me!"
In total agreement, Elsa nodded and led Anna over to an ornate side table. This table had been around their whole lives, and she wondered if Anna remembered doing this when they were little. Taking a moment to light the candles, she turned to Anna and gestured for her younger sister to set the plate down.
"Anything you'd like to say?"
"Um… I don't know," she said with a nervous little smile as she put down the plate. Then she gazed into the flickering candles, eyes sad.
"Happy Yule, Mama and Papa. We're together again! Elsa and me, I meant. I… know you were worried, but Elsa got really great with her powers! She even made a huge tree, and a palace on North Mountain, and…" Her eyes began to mist over. She had told herself not to get emotional, but sometimes she couldn't help it. "Anyway, I think you'd be proud to see us now. How strong we are, and how strong the kingdom is. I hope you would."
Elsa's eyes threatened tears as she heard her sister speak. She bit her lip trying to stay the impending waterworks. She took her sister's hand and turned her gaze towards the candles.
"We miss you so much. And we thank you for everything you did for us, everything you taught us." She was trying to keep it together by not diving too much into the emotional bottomless pit that was everything she really had to say. "I hope we continue to make you proud in the years to come, and please know that we will never stop loving you. I hope this food our chef prepared and we have brought you is up to par." She smiled, hoping to get a little chuckle out of Anna. "After all, if we had cooked it ourselves, you'd be eating rocks again." She bit her lip once more, a tear rolling down her cheek.
"Happy Yule from your girls."
Anna leaned into her sister slightly, trying to provide silent comfort. They were both much more whole together than they had been apart, but they would never be able to feel as contented as they had in those long lost days before the accident, before they were separated. When two sisters and two parents had made one complete family.
"What's next, Elsa?" she asked with a hopeful smile. Hopeful that they could move on to the rest of Yule, and to creating new, happier memories together.
Just a year ago, Elsa would have made a break for it, running from her feelings, scared she'd ice the palace over or something as equally ridiculous. In fact, just earlier that day she'd vanished behind another closed door, leaving Anna to sit in a terribly depressing state of deja vu while she recovered from her own anxieties spilling over. She wouldn't do that again. She'd come too far in her progress to slip up twice in one day, and she wouldn't allow herself that weakness.
She cleared her throat and forced a half-smile. "Now we get to make our own plates, and get ourselves a glass of glogg, and sit by the fire. Together."
Elsa wasted no time in setting about the task at hand, particularly eyeing some delicious looking fruits. Ever the dutiful little sister, Anna followed and got their goblets full of the piping hot beverage. Just smelling it was enough to lift her spirits, the wine mixing with the brandy, fruits and spices perfectly. The cooks had really outdone themselves this year.
"All set," Anna sighed as they carried their plates and cups into the sitting room. They set them down and moved one of the couches just a little closer, so that the fire would warm them thoroughly. "Now, where is Olaf? I can't believe it takes this long to put on a bowtie!"
Elsa settled into the comfortable sofa. "You know Olaf, he probably got distracted by something had has completely forgotten his initial task." She shook her head and smiled. He certainly reminded Elsa of Anna when they were younger. So full of life, always ready for adventure, and occasionally very easily distracted. Actually… not much had changed.
"Well, I'd hate for him to miss anything, but he already kind of missed putting the log in the fire. Should we wait until he shows up to eat?" In the meantime, she took a little sip of her glogg. "Ooh, spicy!"
"Considering he doesn't 'eat' so much as stores food like an ice box, I think we're clear to go ahead," Elsa decided. "Besides, the food is already decently chilly, better eat it before it becomes ice."
"Totally fair point," Anna laughed easily. "After you, sis!"
And with that the queen of Arendelle took the first bite of their yule feast. Elsa hummed happily as the flavourful food filled her mouth with joy, even if it was a bit colder than it had been when fresh.
"Tastes great to me, although the cold never bothered me anyway."
"It'sh goob!" Anna barely managed around a full mouth. Then when she saw Elsa's dainty nibbles and pristine face, she swallowed hard and blushed, ducking her head sheepishly. "Heh heh… I, uh… I like the apple rings! And the suckling pig!"
"Oh yes, the pig is exquisite. Remind me to do something special for our servants. They've worked really hard," she mused before taking another bite. The fire light was so warm, and it really was a great feeling to be sharing Yule with Anna.
Once her plate was empty, Anna leaned back against the couch with the widest smile on her face, propping one foot up on the table and rubbing the very slight bulge in her stomach. After a second or two, a little burp floated up from her, and she covered her mouth with a shy giggle.
"Wow, it was so good. Can we eat like this every day, Elsa?"
"If we did, it'd take no time to become the spitting image of that suckling pig," she teased, finishing her last bite of fruit. By this time, Elsa had already downed two glasses of their extremely alcoholic Yule beverage and was feeling pretty good. "Then we'd be too fat to open the present I got you. But you'd be so cute! Round little Anna-piggy!"
Though Anna had been pretend-pouting about being fat, the mention of presents got her grinning instantly, eyes alight with joy. She leaned a little closer and grasped Elsa's closest arm, shaking her just a little. "Oooh! Is it present time? Is it?" It seemed the glogg had not left her unaffected, even if she'd only had one glass to Elsa's two.
"Its… it's a…. It's not here, we have to go to um… MY ROOM, ANNA." She looked as though shed just had an epiphany, head swimming as she sat upright. "It's in my ROOM! We gotta go get it!" She pulled herself from the sofa and got to her feet, wobbling just a tad. "Come on! We don't have all night!"
Except they literally did, though Anna decided not to mention that. She was too busy laughing hysterically to see Elsa this way. The last time she had been so strongly affected, on her own birthday, was more worrisome because Elsa had been sick and racing through Arendelle, but even that had turned out alright. So this one night, she could enjoy the sight of her sister uninhibited, free of all anxiety and cares. Amusing as it was, it was also extremely encouraging. Elsa really was doing better every day.
Once they got to Elsa's room, she laughed and said, "Do you want me to cover my eyes? Or is it wrapped? What do I do, what do I do?!"
"Cover your eyes, Anna!" Elsa called as she disappeared into her large closet. Anna could hear her sister tinkering around looking for the gift, and she seemed rather unsuccessful till Elsa exclaimed, "Wait — it's under my bed, sorry!"
"Okay, you silly goof," Anna giggled with her hands on her face.
The royal shifted her efforts and let out a rather loud "AH-HAH!" as she pulled a box from the dusty depths, and got back to her feet. "It's wrapped, but I didn't want you to see where I was hiding gifts." With a large grin, she pushed the box into her sister's arms, making her drop her hands from her eyes hurriedly to catch it. "Open it open it open it open it!"
"I will, I will!" She couldn't seem to stop laughing, she was so happy and amused at Elsa's impulsive behaviour. Not wanting to waste any more time, she pulled at the ribbons around the box and opened it up. The instant she stared inside, her laughter died, and her face grew more surprised and touched than bemused. "Oh."
The box had been harboring an ice sculpture Elsa had spent many days trying to get just right. It depicted their mother and father, just as they had been in the family portrait, and on either side of their parents stood Anna and Elsa. Instead of children, they were full-grown adults as they were today. Dressed in their best, smiles on everyone's faces.
Elsa waited for Anna to look up at her and her glogg-flushed cheeks bunched in a smile. "I hope you like it. I wanted it to be a reminder that they are always with us, even today. Maybe not physically, but in our hearts and minds."
That easily, tears had begun to drip down Anna's freckle-dusted face. She tried to answer, but the words stuck in her throat as she gazed down at the sculpture, at two faces she missed so much standing beside the two of them. Then she looked up at Elsa and tried again. "Oh… it's perfect. I can't believe you did this — I mean, I can, because you're incredible, but this is so…" Her words faded as she gazed down at it again. "We all look so happy."
Closing the space between them, Elsa wrapped her arms around her little sister and held her tightly. "You're amazing. Thank you for sticking by me all these years, for never giving up on me, and for never once doubting that I love you…" She pressed her face into the crook of Anna's neck, hiding her own tears. As carefree as she'd been moments ago, even the alcohol couldn't hide how grateful she was to have Anna as her sister.
"Ohhh, I love you, too," Anna told her immediately, tucking the box with its sculpture under one arm as she slid her other around Elsa's back, keeping her close. The scent of her sister's skin was always so comforting. She left a little kiss where neck met shoulder, and she felt the queen's hands clutch at her back. "C'mon, let's, um… let's go back to the fire. Can we bring this? Will it melt?"
With a quick sniffle, Elsa pulled back and smiled blearily at her. "It will only melt if you put it in the fire. Keep it a little distance away and the magic should be strong enough to keep it from melting," she assured Anna.
"Great. Then let's do that; I want to finish our vigil. Oh, and I have something for you, too, but it's not very- well, it's back in my room."
The elder royal looked genuinely surprised that her sister had a gift for her. "Oh, for me? You didn't have to get me a gift; I already have everything on my list right here."
"Flatterer," Anna giggled. "But seriously, let's go get it!"
She stumbled a little bit as she followed her sister out of the room and down the hall. Despite the emotional moment, she was still tipsy. "What did you get me? Can I open it now? Do I have to wait? Should I open it in your room or by the fire? Is it alive? Do I have to feed it?"
"FEED it?!" Anna cackled, still amused with Elsa's behaviour. "What the heck do you think I got you? We can take it back to the fireside, don't worry."
She followed Anna all the way to her room with her string of questions, excited to have a gift, and curious if it was another drawing of Olaf. After all, traditions were the best gift of all. Anna retrieved the smaller box and led Elsa back to their Yule log so they could continue their evening.
"Alright, this is… well, I really wish I'd done something as special as you did. But I think you'll like this. I hope you will!"
Then she pushed the box into her lap, sitting back with her hands on her knees, bouncing a little. Excited, Elsa tore the wrapping from the concealed gift and opened the box. She froze, her expression a mix between slight confusion and enjoyment.
Anna had given her a plaque of gorgeous sealed wood which displayed a pair of her own gloves that had been bronzed. It was beautiful. Gingerly, her fingers slid over them and she looked up at Anna, her expression now grateful and looking for her sister's meaning behind the gift.
"Well, they're your gloves. I mean…" Clearing her throat, Anna worked up her courage to explain. "They're your last pair of gloves. You don't need any to stay warm, and… and now you don't need them for any other reason. So when I was thinking about what I could give you that would celebrate how far we've come since we opened the gates, I remembered our bronzed baby booties, and somehow… I don't know, this seemed to just… fit." She bit her lip and seemed to shrink in on herself. "Is it stupid?"
"Stupid?" Elsa looked almost outraged. "Anna, this is perfect. Really, it's beautiful and I couldn't ask for a better present! Well…" She paused, a shy smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. "I couldn't ask for a better present… except having you as my sister."
She leaned in and pressed a kiss to Anna's forehead. The sweet gesture took Anna's breath away. Even now, all this time later, she was still surprised when her sister showed her affection. Part of her hoped the newness would never wear off, because this way, it was like another small present: every hug, every time Elsa took her hand to lead her through the castle. Presents for always.
"This means a lot to me, Anna. I'm going to put it up in my room tomorrow! For tonight, let's put both presents over here on this table."
"I'm glad you like it," she murmured shyly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear before they got up to move their gifts to stand next to each other. "I love you, Elsa."
Face still flushed with drink, Elsa found it easy to say, "Love you, too."
                                                  ~ o * o ~
The rest of the vigil was spent talking, sharing stories and memories of the things they did when they were children. A few games of hide and seek and Anna's immature precociousness also filled the air with Yuletide warmth. Oh, and of course, chocolate - chocolate everything they could get their hands on! Most importantly, their time was filled with laughter and enjoyment, and as the hours rolled by and a little more sleepiness set in, the two had come back to the sofa, basking in the firelight in a peaceful stillness.
"Do you think he fell asleep?" Elsa mused quietly. "Olaf, I mean."
"I hope he's not out looking for more traditions," Anna slurred slightly, setting down her third glass of glogg. It was so easy to keep drinking, warm and full of festive cheer as it was, but she had managed to pace herself. After a few seconds of staring into the fire, she asked, "Elsa?"
The content blonde rolled her head along the back of the couch, lazily bringing her gaze to Anna as she pulled a blanket tighter around her shoulders. "Hmm?"
"I wanna…" She rubbed at her face to help wake herself up. "My boots off. Wait, I mean-" With a little effort, she kicked the boots free and they thudded against the floor. With a sigh of relief, Anna propped her feet up on the table again, wiggling her toes. "Ahhh, better. That wasn't what I was gonna say, but I'm so warm!"
"It is nice and toasty," Elsa agreed with a chuckle at Anna's behaviour, turning her gaze back to the fire. The Yule log was already a good portion burned through, and it was already close to dawn. "Now, what was it you were going to say before?"
"Wait, what? Oh!" Giggling a little, she leaned against Elsa as she gazed past their feet and the empty plates and goblets into the flickering mantle. "I was going to ask you… do you remember when I came to visit you in the Ice Palace? Up on North Mountain."
She kept her gaze trained on the mantle. Elsa had done a lot of self-reflection and decided not to dwell on her past mistakes so that she could give herself the room and opportunity to learn and grow from them. Still, some moments were harder to think about than others.
"Yes, I remember, Anna."
Oblivious to Elsa's brief pain in her mildly-inebriated state, she whispered, "I was really surprised. When I saw you at the top of the stairs, how different you looked? A good different, but still." She took in a deeper breath and let it out with a sigh. "That was… I guess even though I saw you at the corneration, and the ball, that was- I could tell we weren't just kids running around the castle anymore. You were a full-grown woman. Even though I am, too, it was still… we grew up apart, and I guess I hadn't thought about it very much. So even seeing you at the cormunation wasn't the same as seeing you… in that ice dress, and in full command of your powers, and…" Her hand waved back and forth through the air. "I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say."
Elsa nodded, also not one hundred percent on what Anna was trying to say, but she could tell it was a compliment if nothing else. "Well, it wasn't exactly like you weren't the bell of the ball, either, Anna. And having traveled all the way up the mountain, with only Kristoff for company? Without any ice magic? You looked like you could take on the world. Confidence looks good on you." She mused with a smile.
"Really?" she said with a huge grin. "Wow… but yeah, I mean, I already thought you looked beautiful at the ball, but then so much more beautifuller in the palace! And you had breasts!" Anna snorted at her own word. "Breasts… sorry, that's probably weird to say like that. But I don't know, it would be like… if I turned around and saw Olaf had breasts. Just unexpected! Since we didn't see that much of each other since we were kids, and the noronation dress was more, y'know, bulkier. But your ice dress was like, WOWZERS! Who knew my sister could be so attractive?"
Elsa's expression had taken one of mild shock when Anna mentioned her breasts; she had really not been expecting that, but it was a compliment nonetheless. The blonde smiled, hitching the blanket higher toward her shoulders - subconsciously to hide them.
"Um, wow, thank you, Anna. I grew them myself," she added, to lighten the mood and relieve any awkwardness Anna might be feeling about mentioning them. Anna did laugh so hard she snorted. "We spent a long time apart, so I can realistically understand your surprise in its totality."
"Grew them yourself," she snickered. "Elsas are in season!"
Shaking her head at how ridiculous Anna could be, she finished off the last bit of her drink and set the cup down. The sun was just barely beginning to peek through their curtains. "This was our first vigil, Anna." She looked over at her sister. She knew Anna was always up for marking occasions with unique gestures, like the gloves she bronzed. "We need to make the end of it memorable. Any ideas?"
That got Anna pulling a thinking face, much sillier than her usual thinking face due to her tiredness and the leftover effects of the glogg. "Hmm… okay, how about this? No, wait, listen. We get all the leftover lutefisk together and put it on a big-"
The doors to the room slammed open, echoing off the walls, and Anna yelped and hopped directly into Elsa's lap.
"Have no fear! Olaf is here!"
The familiar voice prompted a sigh of relief in Elsa, her body relaxing from its stiffness. "There you are, Olaf. We were worried about you, figured you must have fallen asleep."
"Asleep?! ASLEEP? On a night like this? This very special night of specialness? No, I didn't fall asleep, silly!" He was all but shouting as he waddled his way around the sofa to face the two royals. "I was looking for this!"
He thrust his little twig arm up with the utmost purpose revealing what appeared to be a few leaves on the end of a stick.
"Is that..?" Elsa's brow rose. Before her question could be finalized, Olaf was already climbing onto the arm of the couch and hovering above them, said plant hoisted above their heads.
"It's MISTLETOE!" he cheered. "One of the Yule traditions that exploded when I was trying to get back to you guys! And you know what happens under mistletoe!"
Elsa's cheeks flushed lightly. One could attribute it to the fire if they so pleased, but she knew what it was really for. Wasn't that tradition supposed to be for married couples and budding lovers? But maybe a little peck would be fun, and it was in the holiday spirit.
Anna was still looking between the mistletoe and Olaf, then to Elsa, clearly trying to remember what its purpose was but drawing a blank. "What?" she finally asked as she turned-
But any further words were cut off. While Anna was staring at Olaf, Elsa decided to go in for a cheek kiss, eyes closed and ready for the affection… however, in the midst of her lean-in, Anna had changed her facial direction, causing the simple cheek kiss to become something a little more intimate.
As Elsa's lips met Anna's she was surprised that she didn't pull away — that neither of them did, really. In fact, Elsa seemed to melt into it, prolonging their moment of intimacy while her hand rose to gently cup Anna's cheek. There was a soft squeak from Anna, but when she felt the gentle coaxing of her sister's lips, she didn't protest or do anything to end the connection. Both her hands rose to rest on Elsa's back, eyes closing as she began to kiss back.
Suddenly, everything seemed to sort of… click. Everything Anna had been saying earlier made sense, and everything Elsa felt when she looked at Anna also made sense. This, them… they made sense together in a way neither sister expected. And if the way Anna was returning the gesture with all her heart was any indication, it made just as much sense to her.
The wave of pure emotion that blindsided Elsa caused her to tear up and she inevitably broke the kiss, resting her forehead against Anna's. She was more at peace than anything, and with a small smile she whispered, "Happy Yule."
"Hahh…" Clearing her throat to recover, a deeply-blushing Anna breathed, "Happy Yule, Elsa. Love you."
How could the same words they said so often feel so different? But Elsa had no desire to resist saying them back. "Love you, too, Anna."
"Wooooow," Olaf drawled, unblinking eyes still staring at them. "That worked a lot better than when I tried it with Anna and Kristoff! Does that mean this is better mistletoe? Should I stock up?"
The two broke their adoring gazes to grab the little snowman and snuggle him, laughing joyfully. Their oldest Yule tradition had somehow led to a brand new one they hoped to continue for many more seasons.

adidas Introduces the Special Edition adizero 8.0 “Snow Cone” Pack
Tumblr media
adidas Football today introduced the special edition “Snow Cone” pack, featuring the 2019 adizero 8.0 football cleats.
Fast with flavor, the adidas adizero 8.0 “Snow Cone” pack was inspired by childhood memories and the vivid colors that make up the vast variety of flavors from snow cone stands and trucks across the nation. Centered around a central flavor profile, each cleat blends the pantone color chart to create a unique look for each of the special edition cleats in the pack.
Designed to showcase style and built for elite performance and speed, the five flavors in the “Snow Cone” pack include Grape Twist (purple/orange), Blue Raspberry (red/white/blue), Pink Lemonade (pink/yellow), Watermelon Mango (green/pink) and Mystery flavor (rainbow).
The adizero 8.0 is engineered for football’s fastest players and takes the football cleat silhouette to the next level by incorporating a sneaker profile and redefining fit, feel and lightweight construction. Inspired by innovations from the adidas Running Uncaged UltraBOOST and adidas Originals NMD silhouettes, the adizero 8.0 is engineered to naturally move with the foot on the field, allow for flexibility and movement through the ankle, and help provide a comfortable, precision fit with maximum breathability.
Bringing sneaker style and insights from the streets to the gridiron, the 2019 adizero 8.0 cleats feature a woven bootie construction, which is sculpted to be aerodynamic and wrap around the foot in order to provide a sock-like feel. The woven upper is seamlessly blended with a lightweight, TPU overlay that helps provide structure for lateral movements, durability and support, while an anatomical lacing system aligns to the bones of the foot for added comfort.
The comfortable yet durable upper is powered by a lightweight SRPINTFRAME with strategically placed SPRINTSTUDS with a rotational traction zone that is designed to provide peak performance, multi-directional strength and unrivaled traction. The finishing touches include adidas’ iconic Three-Stripes emblazoned at the toe cap of the cleats, the adidas Badge of Sport logo at the arch of the medial side of the cleats and a “adizero” moniker dons the front pulltab.
The 2019 “Snow Cone” cleats will be available for $120 each on 3/18/19 at adidas.com, Eastbay.com and dickssportinggoods.com.
