Rambling about Natlan (Spoiler Warning?)

Goodnight everyone, I just finished the Natlan Archon quest and I AM NOT OKAY (/pos). Sharing some screenshots/pics I took. LONG ASS POST (I think?) I'm still on an adrenaline rush so excuse me for not having deep smart thoughts, I feel like I drank 340 liters of caffeine

Thoughts on Diary of a Mad Housewife.

This movie is a very interesting “day in the life” style of movie that shows the goings-on of the Balser family: Lawyer Husband Jonathan (Richard Benjamin), Housewife Tina (Carrie Snodgrass) and their two daughters.  Tina is incredibly unhappy, and one day decides to embark in an affair with George (Frank Langella).

First things first, the writing and the performances are outstanding.  Carrie Snodgrass does so much with so little...and I don’t mean that she doesn’t have material to work with, I mean that there are long sequences where people are talking over her and ignoring her, and she just puts her head down and continues on...I don’t think she says a word for the first five minutes, even though she’s onscreen that entire time.  No, she doesn’t speak because her husband Jonathan will not shut up.  Now, when I tell you that I hate this character, I mean I hate this character.  Never have I wanted to throw something at my TV more than when this jackass was onscreen.  He is the most condescending, pretentious, gaslighting, mansplaining little dickwad that I have ever seen.  Yes, that is the point, and Richard Benjamin plays it pitch-perfectly...but man, did I want someone to smack him upside the head with a frying pan.

Now, that doesn’t mean that her new lover is any better...George is also a bit of a dick...but the difference with him is that he is fully aware of that and freely admits it.  Their scenes together are a welcome reprieve to listening to Jonathan put Tina down at every opportunity.  And even though they both agree that this is just a casual affair...Tina still wants something more.  She is searching for someone to treat her like a person, because no one in her life does, not even her daughters, who have learned to talk down to her from their father.  And while she thinks she might get that connection with George, we are reminded that he too, is an asshole.

The pacing of this movie is perfect...it’s a very tight movie that’s only 95 minutes long, and those minutes absolutely flew by.  It’s also based on a novel that I kind of want to read now, just to see how well the movie adapted it.

Not the most easy movie to find (I just happened upon it at my library), but if you can, I’d recommend it!
