不忘 BUWANG / UNFORGETTING
INTRODUCTION:
不忘 Buwang (spotify link here, YouTube link here) is the sixth song on the CQL companion album, and is performed by Wang Yibo as Lan Wangji’s character song. Lyrically, this song appears to be in conversation with 无羁 Wuji.
I toyed with three translations of the title of this song: “not forgetting,” “I won’t forget,” and the one I eventually settled on—“unforgetting.” Literally speaking, the characters 不忘 bu wang are “not/[negation particle]” and “to forget.” The translation of “not forgetting” is probably the most faithful, and I liked that it emphasized that “not forgetting” was ongoing, a process, an ordeal, unending. “I won’t forget” turns the title into a full sentence and definitive statement, which felt appropriate for a character who often speaks in a register closer to poetry than prose. Eventually, however, I settled on “Unforgetting,” to hedge my bets and maintain the word-length/binome-construction parallel with the title of Lan Xichen’s character song.
Within the song itself, the phrase 不忘 buwang appears, rendered as “never forgetting.”

ANNOTATIONS:
[1] Despite what this looks like, this is not (necessarily) a Xiao Xingchen reference. The characters here are 皎月清风 jiaoyue qingfeng as opposed to Xiao Xingchen’s 明月清风 mingyue qingfeng—but I’ll grant you that they’re close.
[2] What, you may ask, is buried in the snow? What (or who) is hidden alone? This line is an excellent example of the ambiguity you’ll often find in song lyrics—in some cases, lines will be a bunch of evocative binomes, phrases, and imagery stacked on top of each other in a trench coat. It’s all very poetic, but hell to render in translation, and aesthetically vague as heck.
[3] I’ve elided a few words in the translation of this line because it was already so long; a fuller, more faithful translation would be “asking again the old acquaintances of this mortal realm—how heavy is black and white, praise and blame?” The question here of “who is that in the distance, asking again…?” calls to mind both Wei Wuxian in the rain, asking Lan Wangji who’s strong, and who is weak? Who’s wrong, and who’s right? as well as Lan Wangji, kneeling in the snow, asking Lan Qiren who’s just, and who’s evil? Who’s wrong, and who’s right? The binome 故人 guren in particular is heavy with the weight of past relationship—technically, it’s any old friend you might have had, but often, it refers to those extremely close to you (sometimes, even to ex-lovers). In both scenes—Wei Wuxian in the rain, Lan Wangji in the snow—they are asking people who are close to them (Lan Wangji, Lan Qiren) these difficult questions.
[4] Ah! Sudden 君 jun sighting! So in addition to being an honorific appended to titles (Zewu-jun, Hanguang-jun), 君 jun can also function as a literary, second-person pronoun, and is heavily utilized in poetry (e.g. 我住长江头,君住长江尾, etc). It’s notable because this song already features the casual/modern second-person pronoun, 你 ni, in the repeated questions (“Are you still asking?”). As a result, there are two distinct “you’s” in this song.
[5] 澤世韵含光 zeshi yun hanguang—this line was hell to translate but please believe me when I say that it is so sexy in the original. There is a clever mixing of Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji’s respective titles here—泽芜君 Zewu-jun and 含光君 Hanguang-jun. Lan Xichen’s title is notoriously difficult to translate, so rather than attempt to work in a literal rendition of 泽 ze in its valences of “pond/moisture” or “lustre/sheen,” I went straight for its literary/metaphorical valences (as in the binome 恩泽 enze, referring specifically to the generosities bestowed by a monarch upon subjects). Lan Xichen is in fact the kind of person who brings benevolence to the world, and yes, I will die on this hill.
[6] The wording of this line is ambiguous: it could be interpreted as either “the guests depart—only you and I do not forget” or “the guests depart—only you, I do not forget.” I chose the former translation, in order to contrast with the first half of the line. There is a subtle distinction between the parting guests and those who remain in this interpretation that emphasizes how different wangxian are from the rest of their peers. At the same time, the other interpretation—“only you, I do not forget”—is a very Lan Wangji sentiment, and equally valid.
[7] 别来无恙 bielai wuyang is rendered here, almost word-for-word, with its Pleco gloss: I trust you have been well since we parted. How to explain? Occasionally in CQL, we see Lan Wangji’s quiet, undying devotion manifest in these subtle, courteous, domestic gestures (I’m thinking of Lan Wangji’s 今日安否 jinri anfou / “are you well today?” in his letter to Wei Wuxian in episode 31). It makes me go feral every time.
ONCE MORE WITH CLARITY:
The night is slightly cold, deep in the clouds
The bright moon and cool winds circle the heart, soothing
A single person gazes at the snow
watching the events of a bygone world go past
Gusu’s Emperor’s Smile
buried in the snow—hidden alone—a façade of elegance and grace
The sound of the zither travels far from the Jingshi
playing a song of inquiry—only echoes return
Are you still asking?
Have you asked of all the foolish infatuations of people, since time immemorial?
Who is that in the distance?
Asking again—how heavy is black and white, praise and blame?
Can you still forget?
A shared promise in the depths of the clouds—a silhouette, hazy and indistinct
Where are you now?
Gazing at each other, never forgetting
Benevolence to the world harmonizes with the bearing of light
Appearing always with the chaos—a reputation, growing
Yet, he refuses to forget
retreading the events of a bygone world
Bichen rings, bright and loud
The madness of favor and resentment, right and wrong are difficult to avoid
The sound of the zither travels far from the Jingshi
playing a song of inquiry—only echoes return
Are you still asking?
Have you asked of all the foolish infatuations of people, since time immemorial?
Who is that in the distance?
Asking again—how heavy is black and white, praise and blame?
Can you still forget?
A shared promise in the depths of the clouds—a silhouette, hazy and indistinct
Where are you now?
Gazing at each other, never forgetting
Are you still asking?
You no longer ask about all the foolish infatuations of people, since time immemorial
Who is that in the distance?
It is hard to dispel the weight of black and white, blame and praise
Can you still forget?
The guests depart–only you, I do not forget
With you at my side
I trust you have been well since we’ve parted

Chinese And Hong Kong Billionaires On Top As Global Real Estate Fortunes Surge $151 Billion
Lee Shau-kee, the world’s richest real estate billionaire.
David Wong/South China Morning Post via Getty Images
The world’s real estate billionaires collectively added $151 billion to their fortunes in the past year, driven by a spike in Asian markets, according to the 2021 Forbes Billionaires rankings. The 215 real estate moguls have a combined net worth of more than $800 billion and represent about 8% of the total individuals on the list. Only 30 saw a net worth drop over the last year.
The six richest are all citizens of either China or Hong Kong, including Hong Kong’s Lee Shau-kee, 93, the world’s richest real estate tycoon, with a $31.7 billion fortune. Lee controls publicly traded Henderson Land Development, which builds residential properties and marquee commercial projects, like the World Financial Center in Beijing and the International Finance Centre complex in Hong Kong.
The biggest jump from last year went to China’s Zuo Hui, who added $13.3 billion. He was worth $15.5 billion on March 6, when the annual ranking was finalized. Zuo chairs publicly traded KE Holdings, the parent company of Lianjia, which he founded in 2001 and built into China’s largest real estate brokerage firm, with operations in 28 cities and almost 150,000 brokers.
Zuo was at the leading edge of a boom for Asian real estate billionaires, who claim 15 of the top 20 spots on the Forbes ranking, one more than last year.
Irvine Co. Chairman Donald Bren is one of only two U.S. billionaires to rank among real estate’s 20 richest people. Bren’s $15.3 billion fortune represents a $200 million drop from 2020, as the pandemic ate away valuations across the country. Irvine controls more than 125 million square feet of property, much of it in Southern California. Bren is joined by Sun Hongbin, a U.S. citizen who founded Chinese developer Sunac China Holdings; he ticked up by $100 million to $9.3 billion.
Germany’s Alexander Otto was the highest-ranking European billionaire to land in the top 20. Otto’s fortune, which includes commercial investments in major cities like Rio de Janeiro and New York, rose almost $7 billion over the past year.
Rising values brought a handful of new billionaires to the list—though none in the top 20—including Zillow cofounders Richard Barton ($2.2 billion) and Lloyd Frink ($1.4 billion), both from the U.S., where a white-hot residential market boosted the company’s shares nearly three-fold in the 12 months ending March 6.

Albert II, Prince of Monaco get owned an electric car
Albert II, Prince of Monaco get owned an electric car His Royal Highness Prince of Monaco Albert II, who is a model of style and a man of our time, now owns an electric car. Monaco resident representatives of the elite of world business are, all at the same time buying a car - the 2017 Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet Vision Concept, a six-meter Maybach convertible, which is the top vehicle in the luxury segment of exclusive cars. the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet Vision Concept was introduced in the USA market. Marketers predicted that out of 200 exclusive cars that Daimler AG plans to release, most will be sold in the USA, however, in fact, most of the cars were ordered in the Principality of Monaco.
French expert Denis Astagno explains this fact by the cost of the car, which is 2,734,000 euros, and also by the fact that one of the first customers of the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet Vision Concept was Prince Albert II. Of 200 declared Daimler AG cars 136 have already been bought. Analyzing the list of buyers, Denis Astagno indicates that, as expected, the sales volume in the Middle East was insignificant. Outside of Monaco, many cars were sold to the United States of America and to the Hong Kong special economic region of China. No cars have been purchased by Russian customers. Polish journalist Grzegorz Schmacak, who first presented the list of Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet Vision Concept customers, explains the Russian elite's refusal to purchase the vehicle is because of Putin's domestic policy. Russian billionaires purchase cars incognito. However, one machine in Eastern Europe was officially purchased. It was bought by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan, who has registered a car in the name of his wife. Regarding Latin America, Grzegorz Schmacak points out that three cars have been sold to this region. One of the cars was purchased by Venezuelan citizen financier Juan Carlos Escote. It is expected another two or three Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet Vision Concept vehicles will be purchased in this part of the World, taking into account the number of cars that will be delivered to New York. In many countries of Latin America, representatives of the elite could order delivery of the car both to Monaco and to New York. Middle East specialist Ayub Amer indicates that in the near future about forty Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet Vision Concept will be purchased by Arab countries, immediately after the car appears on the streets of Monaco and Hong Kong. Analyzing the list of buyers of the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet Vision Concept, Denis Astagno states: "Considering the income of customers, we can say that the new electric car from Daimler AG is becoming a favorite toy of billionaires."
Abstract
Purpose
The risk of radiation exposure is considered to have increased in recent years. For convenience and simple administration, development of an effective orally administered radioprotective agent is highly desirable. The steroid 5-AED has been evaluated as both a radioprotector and a radiomitigator in mice and nonhuman primates, however, poor oral bioavailability has limited its development, while a variant compound, 17α-Ethinyl-androst-5-ene-3β, 17β-diol (EAD), exhibits significant oral bioavailability. We investigated the radioprotective effects of EAD via oral administration in mice.
Methods and Materials
Survival assays were performed in lethally (9.0–10.0 Gy) irradiated mice. peripheral blood cell counts were monitored in lethally (9.5 Gy) or sublethally (6.5 Gy) irradiated mice. Histological analysis of bone marrow (BM), and frequency and functional analysis of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) in 6.5 Gy irradiated mice were performed. To investigate multilineage engraftment of irradiated HSCs after BM transplantation, competitive repopulation assays were conducted. Plasma granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) was measured by ELISA.
Results
Oral administration of EAD on 3 consecutive days before irradiation conferred 100% survival in mice, against otherwise 100% death, at a 9.5 Gy lethal dose of total body radiation. EAD ameliorated radiation-induced pancytopenia at the same dose. EAD augmented BM cellular recovery and colony-forming ability, promoted HSPC recovery, and expanded the pool of functionally superior hematopoietic stem cells in the BM of sublethally irradiated mice. Unlike 5-AED, EAD did not increase G-CSF levels in mice and exhibited no therapeutic effects on hematological recovery post-irradiation; nevertheless, its radioprotective efficacy was superior to that of 5-AED.
Conclusions
Our findings demonstrate the radioprotective efficacy of EAD and reveal that the 17α-Ethinyl group is essential for its oral activity. Given its oral efficacy and low toxicity, EAD has potential as an optimal radioprotector for use by first responders as well as at-risk civilian populations.
