Some time last year I had the idea to make a magic wand based on the sword Narsil/Anduril from the LOTR films. I modeled the pommel in Blender, printed it, molded it in Mold Max 60 silicone, and cast it in pewter. Then I did nothing with it for months. Finally I returned to it and made a wood shaft, the first one out of Bocote, and then another out of oak. I am now obsessed with this thing, and have been carrying it around with me whenever I’m home. It feels really nice to hold and gesture with.
Next steps are I think trying to make a more detailed, complex one with runes down the side. That had been my original plan, but the prospect was so daunting that I kept putting it off, so I decided to start with a nice simple design and then iterate later.

@wandmore hello, I've always loved your blog but now I have a predicament that I might need so help with it's is okay if you do not want to awnser, however I've been searching for and wide across the peaks and valleys of the internet, trying to find the perfect wood to make twin wands out of for a logo of a business we want to start up. If you could help me that would be greatly appreciated! I'm mostly trying to find a wand wood that is flexible but yet strong, one good at transfiguration and charms, but also healing magic with a propensity for Defence against the dark arts and want to defend those who the wix cares about most.

The elements blessed my wand?!
Two blogs in one day! I am not sure if that is a lot as I am still new to this website. But here goes!
I would like to share with you the making of my wand. I finished it yesterday evening, and it turned out to be a very special evening, perfect for the occasion.
First I started out with a pine branch, a nice one, that I got from outside my dorm. It was a good size, no nodes, and as soon as I started to whittle it it broke in half as it was too dry. So I went on another adventure to find another stick. This time, I found a stick, gave it a nice tug, thanked the tree and took it back. Although I don't have an image of the stick itself, here is one of a similar kind. Just imagine that it had three nodes at the top (we'll get to that in a minute)
Tumblr media
I started to whittle this beast, and I was quickly finding that my multitool knife was not the most efficient option. However, it was practically my only option. I wish I had a ceremonial knife for this part. As I approached the dreaded nodes, I found that my knife was not working to tame them. I recently acquired a dremel and decided to pull that out instead. Now, when crafting your own wand, it is essential that you stay away from machines as much as possible, as you want to make sure that you are infusing hard work and good intentions into your wand. But let me tell you, I was still certainly working hard with this nail dremel.
It took me two hours to shape the wand, and by the end of it, I noticed that it had a slight downwards curve. Curves in wands can be tricky, as you want them to be a straight extension of your hand, or else the energy can be sporadic in direction, hence why I needed to completely remove the nodes. So, I decided to use the dremel to carve a spiral in the wand and I filled it with steel wire as to ensure that any energy I send through it would have a clear and direct path towards the tip. It also might cause some capacitation, which would be quite handy.
Tumblr media
Next, I wanted to attach a stone to help aid me in energy, so I chose unakite. For those of you who aren't as familiar with crystals (don't worry, I'm not either, I'm just familiar with this stone) unakite is a stone that brings grounding, balance, and energy, its planet being Venus, its chakra being heart, and its element being fire. I might not have ever said this before, but I am very much so a fire sign who is greatly intune with Venus. So I found this stone to be very suitable for the job. I attached it using Sculpey®  clay. Once again, I would recommend natural ingredients, but I don't necessarily have an abundance of clay in the soil where I live. I also created a base with the modeling clay and attached a sun pendent for a cute touch.
Tumblr media
Next, I became entirely overwhelmed with the plans that my imagination had created for me. I had done some research on google of custom wands, and I came across an Esty page where they used clay to beautifully sculpt flowers and ivy onto the wands, and I know that this is what I wanted to do with my wand too. Below is the Esty page, because I certainly need to give them credibility as I used their ideas as a reference towards my own.
I gave it a week or so, and I finally mustered up the strength to continue my wand crafting journey. First I laid the Sculpey® down for my vines and baked it. Then I worked on the leaves and flowers. Once it was all baked and set, I began to paint it. But out of the blue, a storm decided to join me. Not just a light thunderstorm in the distance, but a vicious storm. Lightning was jutting past the clouds, and thrashing across the sky down to the earth, wind was pounding the sign on my door, water was drenching the earth below, and the earth was receiving it. Around me, I was experiencing all four elements making their presence known without me invoking them. I knew then that this wand was special, and that the universe was trying to tell me that it would be of great use and power. I knew I wouldn't be able to consecrate it for some time due to my lack of an alter, but the universe had different plants for it. At the advice of my aunt, I ran outside and threw a pan on the ground as to collect some rainwater for this special occasion. As I realized these things, I took my wand unfinished, wet paint and all outside and I let the rain wash away all of its impurities.
Tumblr media
I finished my paint job with a top coat of high gloss Mod Podge® to seal it, and let it rest over night. Although I know have a blessed and fully functioning wand, I first must become more acquainted with my own energy and learn to conduct it down my arm, through my hand, and out my index finger. Although it comes naturally if I concentrate on it hard enough, I want to be very careful with this wand as I sense it is very powerful. So that is my goal going forward, use my finger first!

Wish me luck on my journey! With love,
~The Sunshine Witch

Just a few of the wands i like the most. I've been carving for around 17-18 years. Not consistently or i'd be a lot better. I do all my work by hand from wood i either find out in the wild or that i but from a craft store or lumber warehouse. Three wands here were made from drumsticks, two from dowels i bought from joanne's fabrics, the rest are from a cherry tree in my dad's backyard.
More to be posted soon.

On Wand Crafting
I have always found it foolish that the only thing one can find on how to craft a wand says to ask the tree permission and leave a gift after. As if that was somehow the only way.
This method is an oversimplification. Most likely written by a light side witch whom wished to create a wand in harmony and peace with nature and suchlike.
The only thing that is true for all wands is that you must search for just the right tree.
Read up on tree-types and their symbolism, find what suits you and your purpose best. Then go into nature with your mind focused on your purpose, and lay your hands on as many trees you need to, until you find the tree that resonates with you and your work.
Don't be surprised if it deviates from the tree type you researched. Sometimes we find what we need, not what we search for.
After that is when it deviates from the common method.
If you want a wand that can heal and unify with some grand divinity of light and fluffy bunnies, by all means, ask permission from the tree and leave your offerings. The light side magic will not work if it is forced. That is the nature of white magic.
But if you follow the Darkness, and seek a Wand for a Darker purpose, then you must consider what that purpose is, and how you will use the wand.
A Warlock*, like myself, and anyone else whom serves the Darkness, would stand before roughly two choices;
You may seduce it, or choose to take it by force.
Should you choose to seduce the Brance off from the tree, find a brance that is fitting and who's energy feels willing to come with you --then take it from the tree and cut it's ties with it's source. Make your promises, speak of the great Power you will allow it to work with, the loving care you will treat it with, or whatever else that seems fitting. And when the Branch, and the branch alone, seems eager to come with you, cut it from the tree quickly and fully. Remember to cut it's spiritual bond to the tree as well. A few well-placed words will do.
No offerings will be made to the tree, it only birthed the branch, and as such, deserves nothing.
But keep in mind such a wand must always be treasured, and taken great care of, and used for the purpose you spoke of to it, least it becomes spiteful for your failure to deliver what you promised.
The second way to gain the wand is to take it by force. No question of what it wants, no offerings. Simply your Will and Power, taking what you want.
Once home, treat it kindly, lovingly, even as you dominate it compleatly. Brand it, twist it into the shape and color of your choosing. But afterwards, whisper words of love and admiration, and polish it gently.
What you wish for is a reaction not unlike the Stockholme Syndrome. In which the wand becomes attached to you, and learn to love it's Master and tormentor.
Twist it's energies with cruelty and love, until it cannot say where one ends and the other begins.
Done right, this wand will be fanatically loyal to it's owner. And woe to the one whom dares attempt to use it, without their Master's clear and explicit permission. (And even then, it may still reject all but it's owner.)
The Darker and more cruel the acts for which it is used, the better a weapon it will become. A wand such as this makes the greatest and most powerful of weapons.
But keep in mind that if you fail to gain it's loyalty, this type of wand could easily become a hateful item. More of a cursed item that needs a powerful Will to dominate and use it. Those whom fail to dominate this wand it will destroy.
Of course, that could be what one desire when making it in some cases. If only to allow it fall into the hand of an enemy with a weaker will. For it will no longer respond to kindness. Not at this point...
The Path of Darkness is a dangerous one, but also immensely rewarding.
Don't allow fear to stop you from walking this wonderous Path.
As an extra tip: Whenever you study magic, remember to always ask why something is done.
Once you understand why it is done, then you can modify the spell, ritual, and/or your actions to fit your own purpose.
For example; If you want a playful wand, you could treat it like a puppy, and use it to play tricks on people.
For a wand used to seduce and draw in sexual energy, first seduce it, then shape it to suit such a purpose...and I am quite sure you know ways a well-polished wand can be used to further infuse it with such energies...
Remember this lesson when crafting all tools, and all spells; Always learn why it works. Not just how.
--
(*I use the word Warlock in it's original meaning; As one whom has broken off with g-d to serve the Devil, and works his Dark Arts.)

WIP SNIP SUNDAY
Thanks @wolfpants for the tag, your Dron wip snip looked AWESOME (read it HERE)
This is a Drarry. Most of my long Drarry WIPs have been collecting dust because I’m terrified to commit to writing them for some reason, though I love reading them.
This WIP is called “Someone Loves You, Draco Malfoy,” about a curmudgeonly middle-aged Draco who makes wands and would rather not be bothered outside of business hours, thank you very much. Maybe I’ll have the courage to actually finish it someday.
The streets are bathed in the coral glow of sunset when Draco finally sets off for home. It’s that quiet time when shops have just closed and folk are hurrying home with arms around their children and hands full of crinkly bags and neat parcels. Draco ignores their cheerful clamour and plods on.
He's definitely missed his programme, which makes him feel irritable as he stomps upstairs to his flat. Oscar is no help, his own delayed dinner earning Draco a number of alarming growls and hisses as he rummages for a can of food in the cupboard.
Draco’s fingers ghost over the preferred tuna in favor of some nearly-expired, bland chicken. Teach that ungrateful cat not to get too comfortable. No matter how long he’s benefitted from Draco’s hospitality, the arrangement is permanently temporary.
Draco is about to settle into his worn chintz armchair for a spot of pre-bedtime reading when an unexpected tap rattles the glass of his window.
A barn owl scrabbles for purchase on the narrow window ledge, a largeish package affixed to his legs.
Draco throws up the sash and stands back, allowing the owl to land on his table.
“What’s this?” Draco asks, picking at the knotted twine until it falls away. He absently strokes the owl as he tears the brown paper away.
Inside is a gold-foil-wrapped box of chocolates, and a plain white card.
Draco flips it open.
‘Someone loves you.’
He turns the card over, then the box, frantic for more information, but there it is staring him in the face in swooping curling script:
‘Someone loves you.’
It must be a mistake.
Right?
Who in their right mind would send a taciturn recluse like Draco an anonymous declaration of love?
Hey, @the-francakes, @vdoshu, @nanneramma, @vitaminpops, and @lumosatnight, anything new you’re working on lately that you wanna share? Feel free, but no pressure!

Professor Quirrell had a unicorn hair core in his wand, which furthers the narrative of him being possessed and acting against his will because the only other example of a dark wizard with unicorn hair we have is Draco Malfoy, who was hesitant and apprehensive with his every move, and all other Unicorn Hair-weilding wizards are notably pure and wellintentioned men, such as Neville, Remus, Ron, and Charlie. In this Essay I will-

Hey! Do you carve real wood in your wands? Or do you use the skewer and hot glue method?
I do both! Some wands that are thicker and made with oak, maple, etc. I can carve into and do some cool designs. But, I also do the hot glue method for some that I want more delicate details. Not everyone wants to carry around a bulky wand (there's a dirty joke in here I can feel it). But, its up to the client.
