Why weren't Hellopro Kids marketed more towards... kids?? earlier in their career (before Shugo chara, Inazuma eleven, Kirarin and all that jazz). Listening to songs like Piriri to Yukou, Fighting Pose, Sakura Chirari, Wakkyanai Z, etc, I can perfectly picture them as openings or endings of children's anime or shojo, like they're that good and catchy songs. I really don't get it.
“It’s simple! I fell in love for the first time splendidly at the end of the fiscal year. Prospects aren’t good–is the date I yearn for being postponed yet again? Why? Why? Why?”
OR: The first song Tsunku sat down and wrote C-ute when he realized the only name he and staff had for them was “all the girls not in Berryz”.

¹ We’re in Reiwa now, but Heisei made up most of the “modern” Japanese era, which started in January 1989 and ended before May 2019. All of C-ute (and Hello! Project Kids for that matter) are Heisei-born, making them the equivalent of Generation Y.
² Alternatively, synergy, but basically referring to when three or more elements combine to make a stronger effect together than the sum of their parts. (So 3 rivals get in the way more annoyingly than if the girl had to compete with each girl at separate times.)
³ I’m awful with stock, so here is a legal definition.
Also, this is C-ute’s first original song (it was released as their fourth “indies” single, and their first major single was Sakura Chirari and their first indies single was Massara Blue Jeans, but this was the first original song they performed at a live), so I had to try my hand at translating Tsunku’s liner notes for it:
This is a song they sang prior to debut.
At the time I finished this song, those 8 girls might not even have had their group name yet.
It's just that there was a period in which, out of the girls who participated in Hello! Project Kids at that time, around half were in Berryz Koubou and had a name, but the rest of the girls didn't have one.
"Alright, everyone not in Berryz Koubou, gather 'round~" As I looked at these girls' faces
As words like those were being exchanged, I wrote them a song.
In that sense, given this song was born quite naturally,
I don't mind if you think of this as the song that made me realize "Oh, you've gotta give these girls a name!"
Boy A: "Hey, Boy B, can you climb that tree?"
Boy B: "Aw, there's no reason to. It's a piece of cake, so easy!"
The meaning of "no reason to" there = IT'S EAZY, or "noreason2". (<--Ok so the previous sentence isn't really translateable, just an explanation of how "wakenai" got slangified into "wakkyanai" and also apparently an explanation of "wakenai" as "easy", since the expression apparently wasn't as mainstream as it is now).
For a Kansai guy like me, the slightly Tokyoite feel (t/n: "kkya" is Tokyo-ish slang, don't think about it too hard) is a bit fresh, so I just went with it.
But if you're thinking "That's not something people in Tokyo say!", then just think of it as wordplay and kindly forgive it, please....
And so, this song attached a certain kind of image to C-ute.
This was unmistakably their debut song in the entertainment world.
I'm certain that it'll remain in your heart from now on too!
Hm? "That's easy!" you say?
Thanks so much!!!
Anyway, the official C-ute channel has an 8-member video of it that I normally link, but my absolute favorite is the one I posted above from the 2006 H!P Winter Concerts because everyone is so tiny, and it’s so old it’s literally still missing Arihara Kanna (who got added to C-ute from the Hello! Project Eggs in the middle of this tour.)
It’s truly a relic from C-ute’s pre-debut era (It’s a 7-person C-ute but Megumi is still in it! Maimai is noticeably shorter than Chisa! The song has only two members with solo lines but neither of them is Maimi! The song has an obvious center but it’s not Airi! Nakky isn’t the main dancer!) Anyway, when you compare it to later performances, it’s night and day in terms of polish, but C-ute’s passion for performance is the one constant that always shines through~
Blog Post Translation: November 2nd, 2020: 671* A Movie with Rika-chan~ <3
Enjoy, and please don’t repost without credit!
Yaa
This is Satoyoshi Utano
Thank you very much for the comments and likes yesterday as well!
I was happy that a lot of you looked at it......!
I want to try sewing various things again~ <3
So!
Today, before work,
I went to see the theatrical version of "Kimetsu no Yaiba" Mugen Ressha arc
With Shimakura Rika-chan
I've always wanted to see this morning!
I'm a super indoor person, and I don't really invite people out
So when I dove in and invited Rika-chan to go with me, she came to see it <3 <3
I haven't been able to go to see plays or movies at all because of the situation,
So for the first time, I went to the theatre to watch a movie
The theatre was socially distanced with spaces between the seats......
It was fresh,
And since I'm the type to get immersed, I wouldn't notice anyone around me anyway, so it might have been just right...... LOL
The bottom line is that the movie is really, really good......!
There is a sense of dynamics even in the movement of the kimono,
It was overwhelming.
Of course, I've watched the anime
But after all, the power of the movie is really amazing...... :O
Recently, I have been learning about seiyuu through talking a little bit with Takase Kurumi-chan,
Once again, I realized how amazing the seiyuu are......
I don't usually cry much at movies but, before I realized it, there were tears leaking out of my eyes :'(
It's been a while since I went out with Rika-chan, and it was fun~ <3 <3 *
We went shopping~!
I got a dress from my beloved evelyn <3
Congratulations! <3 :) <3
The three colours are like odango, they're cute colours~
Shion-chan is always watching the seniors from the side of the stage at Hello! Project concerts, and while she watches the performances, she practices her dancing
She remembers the dances for each song perfectly, and I think that she's really hardworking and cool......!
Even during the Kenshuusei recital, I noticed it when we were always in the same group for "Koi Dorobou" and "Wakkyanai (Z)" and so on... <3 :) <3
I haven't met Kawana Rei-chan and Matsumoto Wakana-chan yet,
But I think that I want to meet them soon! <3 <3 *
I posted a selfie the other day and I said, "next time, I'll post a full bpdy photo," so here's my new dress from An Mille!!! <3 <3
This sweet dress is a serious favourite <3 :) <3
I remember that I did a fake full body posting before with my clothes lolol
This time, I didn't forget and I took a full body photo at home
For some reason, I was socially distanced from the mirror, so I zoomed in and that made it blurry lol
The puffy sleeves are cute <3
The shoes are from evelyn <3 Love
I love cute clothes!
Well then!
I'll do my best tomorrow, too! Okay! <3
(1) Jump - All of the fans smiles appear, so let’s sing to the end!!
(2) Massara Blue Jeans - A song that we suffered a bit through due to pressure. I was afraid of failing and this nervousness even appeared in my dreams.
(3) Tadori Tsuita Onna Senshi - A song from Tsunku specifically for Budoukan. As this “light” appears before my eyes; thank you for such an amazing song.
(4) Wakkyanai (Z) - Actually, this was the first track I recorded. The first time I had a recording. I was impressed as everybody practiced hard for the first original song for ℃-ute.
(5) Sakura Chirari - Here it is, our major debut song! I have strong memories of performing this at many various places. Actually, it was originally “Yuki ga Chirari.”
NACKY’s BEST
(1) Sekai Ichi HAPPY na Onna no Ko - I like cute songs, so this one has the best feeling to it.
(2) Kanashiki Heaven - I hardly sing in this one, LOL. But I can focus all my power on dancing!!
(3) Massara Blue Jeans - This song is essential since it was our first song.
(4) Iron Heart - I love the feeling it gives off when everybody is singing.
(5) Jinsei wa STEP! - The song, dance, outfits, and the ℃-ute of today all make this GOOD!
AIRI’s BEST
(1) Namida no Iro - I get nervous when singing in falsetto, but this song is my favorite. This includes “Juliet Juliet.”
(2) Wakkyanai (Z) - When I sing this song, it makes me nostalgic for when I was a child. I naturally smile once the introduction starts.
(3) SHOCK! - This is a song that can’t be removed from my past. So, I would like to cherish it even more from now.
(4) Kanashiki Heaven - A powerful battle song that can be embarrassing no matter how you put it. I sang it at festivals and various places.
(5) Iron Heart - Everyone is free to join this song. So we can all be a part of a ℃-ute performance.
CHISATO’s BEST
(1) Jinsei wa STEP! - A song that shows some great points. Like ℃-ute’s teamwork.
(2) Bokura no Kagayaki - I always get courage and energy when I hear everybody cheer “Chisato!”
(3) Kanashiki Heaven - A song where I thought that I won’t lose to Airi. We both worked hard together!
(4) Final Squall - It seems like the end has come!
(5) To Tomorrow - It’s truly Tsunku! It conveys a message of “Thank for everything you’ve done.”
MAI’s BEST
(1) Gamusha LIFE - A song with lyrics that are purely about ℃-ute. When I sing it, I cry.
(2) Iron Heart - The setup for the stage is fun. It’s a relaxing song.
(3) EVERYDAY YEAH! Kataomoi - It’s the first main song that filled me with happy memories.
(4) JUMP - It reminds me of “Megu.” It’s an important song. The second half is pretty intense, but it always makes me smile.
(5) SHINES - Despite the fact that I sang this as a child, I feel good with the lyrics. You can become energized from this song.
14 15 19 20 tell me about the forbidden sister groups
[Answers for this here Hello! Pro meme.]
I didn’t realize what you meant about “forbidden sister groups“ until I actually started writing down the questions. Though I think while the Factories are sister groups, they’re children of Berryz mentorship while Country Girls is a child of C-ute mentorship so either A) Country Girls is also a sister to them or B) the Factories are Country Girl’s cousin.
14. What is your favorite Berryz Koubou song?
Good question. There’s like a huuuuge gap in the middle of their career where I really don’t care about any of the songs at all. This one with the title I can’t translate (Exhibit A on the topic of Momochi still sounds the same) is my favorite of their older stuff, while Loving You Too Much is probably my favorite of the newer ones. And in the category of honorable mention because it’s a fucking good song we have WANT!.
15. What is your favorite ℃-ute song?
I got into C-ute pretty recently (recent encompasses up to the last five years) and let me say that was a good decision. For old stuff of theirs, I really like Wakkyanai (Z) if not only because this performance of it is flawless and because the name sounds like “what can I say?“. For newer stuff, I friggin’ love Love Is Like Static Electricity; The song is good, the dance is good, the MV aesthetic is good: all of it is good. For honorable mention we have another song who’s English title I don’t know.
19. What is your favorite Kobushi Factory song?
Kobushi is def my favorite of the two Factories. I really look forward to their future. @.@ I like about half their songs, and the other half I prefer hearing in recorded lives. The Kobushi/Magnolia Flower has a really great sound to it so it gets an honorable mention but honestly, nothing can top Sakura Night Fever for many reasons. The video is GREAT on an aesthetic and comedic level. I wasn’t sold on the song when I first heard it, but a version of this performance really sold me on it. Kobushi really remind me of the silly days of Morning Musume.
20. What is your favorite Tsubaki Factory song?
The only thing Tsubaki has that I don’t like Kobushi more for is probably pastels. I don’t listen to a lot of their songs/have trouble tracking some of them down but I think my favorite would have to be Keeping You All to Myself. First Love Sunrise is super catchy, but it’s too soon for me to know if it will have staying power in my kokoro.
