Back Once Again: The Second Two Ektachrome Scans
here are the next two. tbh not my greatest work, but i do think they are pictures worth looking at maybe.
The Pictures
these are pictures taken in rural kansas over the summer. the first one is just some road, and the second is the wakarusa river. they were both taken with the k1000 on the ektachrome 64t. i think i used the 28mm lens on both, but the one of the river might have been with the tamron tele. the overexposure and blue cast are present on most pictures from this roll, but they're particularly annoying on these pictures. i took the first one because it just looked like a ghibli movie through my eyes; it was so ridiculously green that it honestly felt like something out of a dream. the ektachrome did not do it justice, however, and while it still looks pretty good, it's definitely not the magical scene i remember. the one of the river is just plain overexposed. i haven't actually put these pictures through a slide projector (haven't bought mounts), so some of this might be scanning issues - i had another scan that was way blown out but the positive itself looked fine. i guess i'll wait and see

A Small Request
Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a good day whenever you happen to read this.
I don't normally post things like this on here, but I've been very tight on money lately and I've been trying to push my side gigs out a bit more to help with bills coming up and groceries, and I felt like maybe I could give it a try to get the word out to this community as well.
If anyone finds themselves interested in helping out - here are some services that I offer:
- I'm a proofreader and love giving writing advice and ideas. I've helped proofread college papers before and personal stories, and overall am willing to give anything a look-see! I'm willing to negotiate prices and my hours are flexible - so I'd totally be up for being a long-term proofreader that you could turn to if needed.
- I also do tarot and oracle readings! I have an etsy shop for this in particular, and would be happy to do a reading for you if you're interested in that kind of thing. If you don't see a reading that interests you in my shop, I'm also willing to accommodate and do a more custom reading for you outside of those listings as well! I'll be including the link to that shop at the bottom of this post.
- If none of these services interest you, I am taking donations to my PayPal (link just below this) as well if you'd still like to help out in some way. Please don't feel obliged to donate, though! I understand completely and a simple reblog will be just as appreciated. ❤️

Spoiler Free Book review of
“All Good People Here” by Ashley Flowers
Good reads synopsis/summary: “In the propulsive debut novel from the host of the #1 true crime podcast "Crime Junkie," a journalist uncovers her hometown’s dark secrets when she becomes obsessed with the unsolved murder of her childhood neighbor—and the disappearance of another girl twenty years later.
Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the case of January Jacobs, who was found dead in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist, but she’s always been haunted by the fear that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.
When Margot returns home to help care for her sick uncle, it feels like walking into a time capsule. Wakarusa is exactly how she remembered: genial, stifled, secretive. Then news breaks about five-year-old Natalie Clark from the next town over, who’s gone missing under eerily similar circumstances. With all the old feelings rushing back, Margot vows to find Natalie and solve January’s murder once and for all.
But the police, the family, the townspeople—they all seem to be hiding something. And the deeper Margot digs into Natalie’s disappearance, the more resistance she encounters, and the colder January’s case feels. Could the killer still be out there? Could it be the same person who kidnapped Natalie? And what will it cost to finally discover what truly happened that night?”
Format: audio book read by Brittney Presley (an amazing reader 10/10 for performance) with character actor Karissa Vacker and Epilogue by the author, Ashley Flowers
Source: Libby (app that my local library partners with)
Book started on: Jan 3rd
Book finished on: Jan 4th
Book Grade (out of 100): 87
Book emojis: 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦⛪️🩰😭😲❄️👮‍♂️🥸🌹✉️🔓
Book sins spotted:
“Let out a breath [character] hadn’t realized they were holding” count: 1
Spoiler free thoughts: The book, for the record, is one of fiction but it feels so real. Ashley knows the inner workings of real criminals and clearly has a knack for writing fake ones with her knowledge. This is the type of story where you think you know 100% where it is going only for everything you thought u knew to turn in its head (over and over again.) I personally found this book to be more mystery crime fiction than thriller but I definitely enjoyed it non the less.
The ending was fast passed and full of constant twists and turns that left me guessing constantly, so naturally I loved it. There were many points where I, finally, thought I had figured out the entire sequence of events only to have half of my assumptions turn out to be totally wrong. This is the type of mystery I recommend to all of my friends and this one will be no exception.
Warnings: There are a few warnings people may need to know going into this book (besides the obvious, ie. Murder) mainly child murder, child abuse, and sexual assault against a minor stand out the most. Although, just as in her podcasts, Ashley does a great job of asserting the seriousness of these topics while not lingering on the details that make us uncomfortable. The wording of these assaults and crimes are no more vivid then the wording would be in True crime podcasts.
I would also like to add in another warning; Dementia is discussed heavily through this book as one of the main characters suffer with it. Dementia runs in my family so this topic hit me especially hard. My own grandmother is suffering with the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s disease at the moment and is about the same age as the main character. While the character suffers far more than my grandmother does at the moment it is still a heartbreaking aspect of this book which I feel many reviews have not stressed the extent in which this aspect is mentioned.
Do I recommend this book? Despite knowing a few of the main twists ahead of time I still deeply enjoyed the smaller twists as a few audible gasps left my mouth while listening. I highly recommend this book to people who love true crime (or fictional crime stories.)
If you enjoyed this book and are looking for other recommendations: I, of course, have to recommend Crime junkie, Ashley flowers most popular podcast. I will also recommend another true crime show; The Casual Criminalist, which is both a podcast and a YouTube channel (I recommend the YouTube Channel over the podcast as the editor, Jen, likes to thrown in a few sight gags from now and then which helps lighten the mood.)

All Good People Here
By Ashley Flowers / 4 stars
Margot Davies is moving back to her hometown to care for her uncle, who’s been recently diagnosed with dementia. Her Uncle Luke who raised her, the person who cared for her when her own parents were cold and distant. She’s not sure if she can handle watching him slip away.
Coming back to Wakarusa awakens old memories, and when a 5 year old girl from the next town goes missing, Margot’s thoughts immediately go to January. Her old friend, her next door neighbor, who was found dead in her home when she was just six years old. Her killer was never found, and when Natalie Clark goes missing, Margot is sure that she was kidnapped by the same person who killed January.
This isn’t the first time Margot has tried to connect the disappearance and deaths of other young girls to her old friend. When she turns in an article, not focusing on Natalie’s disappearance, but instead a piece focusing on the connection between the cases, it’s the last straw for her boss. Margot is fired from the paper she works for, but she’s not about to stop looking into the cases.
There were a lot of good parts in this book, but there were also things that seemed a little unnecessary. They just seemed to add more chaos to a boon that would have already been strong without them. I’m giving this 4 stars instead of 3 though for the strong ending that’s kept me thinking about this book.
Though I don’t want to spoil the ending, I will say two things: 1) This ending left me breathless, in a blood running cold, want to look away but can’t sort of way. 2) I hate open ended endings. I hate them. I don’t want it left up to me and my imagination what happened. Do I go with the hopeful ending, the one I want? Or the more likely one? I don’t want that, I want to know what the author had in mind, what they intended.
Despite being open ended, it was still good. The last third of this book was so compelling, I couldn’t stop reading. Definitely would recommend!

Are you looking for a book that will keep you up at night? Look no further than All Good People Here, the debut novel from true crime podcast host Ashley Flowers. Set in the small town of Wakarusa, Indiana, the book follows Margot Davies, a journalist who becomes obsessed with the unsolved murder of her childhood neighbor, January Jacobs. Margot was only six years old when January was found dead in a ditch, and the case has haunted her ever since. When Margot returns to Wakarusa to help care for her uncle, who has early-onset dementia, she discovers that the town is still as secretive and stifled as it was twenty years ago. And when a five-year-old girl named Natalie Clark goes missing under circumstances eerily similar to January's murder, Margot can't shake the feeling that the two cases are connected. As Margot digs deeper into Natalie's disappearance and January's murder, she begins to uncover dark secrets that everyone in the town seems to be hiding. But the more she learns, the more resistance she encounters, and the more dangerous the investigation becomes. All Good People Here is a twisty, chilling, and intense tale that will keep you guessing until the very end. Flowers is a master of suspense, and she knows just how to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Every time you think you know what's going to happen next, she throws a curveball that leaves you reeling. But what really sets this book apart is its exploration of the dark secrets that hide behind closed doors. As Margot uncovers the truth about Wakarusa, she realizes that the people she thought she knew best are capable of things she never could have imagined. It's a sobering reminder that we can never really know what goes on in someone else's home. All Good People Here is an impressive debut that showcases Flowers' skill as a storyteller. It's a must-read for anyone who loves a good thriller or true crime story. So grab a copy, curl up in your favorite chair, and get ready for a wild ride. REVIEW: Wakarusa Valley Heritage Museum [History Tour]
Late last summer, my son and I took a trip to Lawrence, Kansas to mostly go to the KU Natural History Museum, and decided to look for additional stops to flesh the trip out into more of an all-day thing. There are quite a few museums in the area, but one in particular caught my eye. The Wakarusa Valley Heritage Museum is a small museum located in the town of Clinton, Kansas, which is…

My Review:
Meh. Just meh, for me.
I have this thing where I don't like when regular people are investigating crimes and murders more/harder than the paid public servants who are supposed to do it.
Margot is no professional crime fighter but she is a journalist who comes back to her small town to care for her ailing uncle. While back in her small town, word of another murder gets around and that kicks up dust around the murder of January Jacobs when Margot was just a kid.
January gives very JonBenet Ramsey. The cast of characters in this town gives the same vibe too. January's family are suspects, the police are suspects, everyone has secrets and, no one is telling the truth.
I've got nothing else. Margot might as well, sign up for the police force and become a detective because, she's the only person doing any real work - despite her uncle actually needing help and her job threatening to fire her almost every day. Somehow in the end Margo t is a hero, she gets a rise, gets to work from home, and has more than enough money to now pay someone to care for her uncle -- *eye roll*.
