Remembering A Hardcore Legend: Celebrating The Life And Career of Terry Funk
Today is the one year anniversary of the passing of the legendary Terry Funk. I hope this article helps you all understand who he was and why he is important to wrestling.
Terrance ‘ Terry’ Dee Funk was born to Dorothy and Dory Funk Sr. on June 30, 1944 in Hammond, Indiana . He had an older brother , Dory Funk Jr. the Funk family soon moved to Texas during the end of World War II. Terry and Dory spent their childhood in the wrestling business as their father was a wrestling promoter. After high school, Terry attended college at West Texas A & M University, where he was also an athlete. He was on the football team and on the amateur wrestling team.
Terry Funk had a career which took place for half of a century ( 50 years ) . He was also known for the hardcore style of wrestling , which he is considered one of the pioneers for . His career began in 1965 at his father ‘s wrestling promotion , Western States Sports out of Amarillo , Texas. He became the NWA World Heavyweight Champion in 1975 after replacing his brother , Dory, who was set to face Jack Brisco for the championship. Dory never showed up to the promotion for the match. He also had a rivalry with ‘ The American Dream ’ Dusty Rhodes , with Funk coining the catchphrase, ‘ Dusty Sucks Eggs ’ . He also spent part of his career in Japan in the promotion, All Japan Pro Wrestling ( AJPW ). This was from 1972 to 1991.
Funk soon found his way to World Wrestling Federation from 1985 to 1986. He also had a stint in World Championship Wrestling ( WCW ) from 1989 to 1990 and again in 1994 . He returned to Japan in 1994 as a part of the International Wrestling Association of Japan ( IWA). He participated in the King of The Death Match Tournament in 1995. He would also have a stint in Extreme Championship Wrestling ( ECW ) from 1993 to 1997. He would have rivalries with stars such as Cactus Jack ( Mick Foley ) , Raven, Stevie Richards, Sabu, and his protege , Tommy Dreamer. He was even ECW World Heavyweight Champion before losing the championship to Sabu during a Barbed Wire Match at Born To Be Wired in 1997. Funk would soon find his way back to the WWF in 1997.
Terry Funk would be a surprise entrant in the 1997 WWF Royal Rumble at number 24. He was in the match for 15 minutes and 18 seconds until being eliminated by Mankind ( Mick Foley ). He had a short retirement before returning to the company in December of the same year to become tag team partners with Mick Foley. He adopted the gimmick , ‘ Chainsaw Charlie ’. He would also form a tag time with 2 Cold Scorpio during his time in WWF as well. He would return to ECW in 1998 and had a rivalry with Tommy Dreamer before a second retirement in 1999. Funk would return to WCW in 2000. He make appearances in Ring Of Honor , Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and Major League Wrestling. He would also spend time on the Independent Wrestling circuit before making a few more appearances in the WWE. Terry alongside his brother , Dory , would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009 by Dusty Rhodes. However , Terry would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a solo wrestler by Mick Foley . In 2016, Funk was seen at Wrestlemania 32 giving advice to Dean Ambrose ( Jon Moxley ) , before his match against Brock Lesnar, which was a No Holds Barred Street Fight. Funk gifted Ambrose a chainsaw as a nod to his Chainsaw Charlie gimmick . He would return to the Indie scene the same year .
Terry Funk passed away at the age of 79 in Phoenix , Arizona. On the August 25 edition of Friday Night Smackdown , the WWE paid tribute Funk and Bray Wyatt , who passed away the next day. Thus , in honor of Funk , ‘ The American Nightmare ’ Cody Rhodes , came down to the ring and announced a Terry Funk Memorial Hardcore Tag Team match with the participants being The Street Profits and The Brawling Brutes.
Wrestlers such as Mick Foley , Tommy Dreamer, Eddie Kingston , and Jon Moxley have all credited Funk for influencing their careers. Bret Hart has also praised him for being one of the greatest in ring performers.
My Final Thoughts:
There will never be another Terry Funk. If it was wasn’t for him being so influential in hardcore wrestling , I think that we wouldn’t have promotions such as Game Changer Wrestling ( GCW ) , which is known for deathmatch wrestling and I don’t think hardcore wrestling would be popular . Terry Funk was one of those wrestlers who influenced almost everyone . Watching his matches on the internet and on Peacock, makes me wish I could go back in time and watch live . He is a reason why I love Deathmatch and Hardcore Wrestling. Long Live The Funker! Go watch a Terry Funk match if you haven’t ! You’ll be amazed!
1944-2023
Love You All,
- Kay

as a sidenote pro wrestling history is just absolutely, endlessly fascinating to study. from the gold dust trio onwards, you have 100 years of so many of the most absolutely bizarre people to ever walk the planet attempting to figure out how to sell a fake combat sport to the masses.
and there are so many aspects to it. sure you can just study the wwe but you’ll never get the full picture of american wrestling without studying the territories, of which there are countless, each with their own individual histories and names up until vince old yeller’d them. or the promotions that existed in the mid-late 90s and gave wwf a run for its money during the Monday Night Wars. or the promotions that have popped up since the mcmahon empire became a monopoly
and what about international wrestling? take a deep dive into El Santo, the most famous and iconic luchador of all time (he was even in Coco), or learn about how CMLL is the oldest surviving wrestling promotion in the world. Or look into Antonio Inoki, founder of New Japan Pro Wrestling, and the various oddities surrounding his life. and that’s just two of several international scenes
how about indie wrestling? sure anyone can tell you who stone cold steve austin is, and most folks might know the nwo, but who out there knows about Chikara’s The Colony? can you name a local promotion near you?
how about weirdly niche subjects, like championships. did you know the WWE Intercontinental Championship is a combination of a North American Championship and a South American Championship that were unified? And that the latter title didn’t even exist, they just made it up for the backstory?
like any form of art (because that’s what pro wrestling is), there are endless styles and masters and techniques and oddities and fun facts. but the nature of wrestling means so many of the people involved are genuinely just fascinatingly strange. sometimes in frightening ways, true, but also sometimes in amusingly absurd ways too. i love learning about all these weird little tidbits

Aperçu of the Week:
“Everyone’s a murderer. All it takes is a good reason and a bad day.”
(Stanley Tucci as Jefferson Grieff in “Inside Man”)
Bad News of the Week:
According to estimates, 150 species of animals are becoming extinct - every day. For me, an unbelievable number. And a tragedy. After all, we are not talking about a comet impact or a gigantic volcanic eruption that changes living conditions so radically that some species cannot survive it. But the behavior of the parasite Homo "sapiens" (yes, the "wise" can be put actually only in quotation marks), which leaves no more space to the other species by its way of life. He destroys every habitat, ruins every ecosystem. Changes the climate at a pace that leaves no time for adaptation. Kills not just for food, but for trophies - and for fun. And as of last week, there are 8 billion of them. It's exasperating.
In Panama, the CITES Conference ended last week. Every three years, the 184 member states of the "Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora" try to protect nature - in principle against man. The best-known example is the ban on the ivory trade. And what is the result? Exemptions for Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Which stupidly cover most of this highly questionable market. So a toothless tiger. Who doesn't even exist in Africa.
Therefore, I do not share the current euphoria that has currently seized even the WWF. "A milestone was set at the international species protection conference in Panama for the protection of sharks." They are hunted for their fins and their meat. But they also often end up in the net as bycatch. The population of almost all deep-sea sharks has declined by more than 70 percent in the last 50 years. So all is well now? No, because it is the small print and the lack of legal binding force that make the whole maneuver appear in a different light.
Namely in that of the whales. Their protection has also long since been agreed. Officially, their hunting is now only permitted for "scientific reasons." What the largest whale-hunting nation on the planet, Japan, has solved quite simply for itself: a laboratory sample is taken from every whale slaughtered precisely for these pseudo-scientific reasons. The 99.999% remainder ends up on the fish market, as it always has. And Iceland and Norway (number two and three on the list) simply do not recognize the ban and engage in open commercial whaling. Bravo! So what has it helped the gentle giants? That's right: nothing. It is not what is written on paper that counts, but what happens in reality. Which brings us back to Homo "sapiens". And the quote from "Inside Man". Sigh...
Good News of the Week:
It was not really enthusiastic how the coverage and the public mood developed in the run-up to the men's soccer world championship currently taking place in Qatar. From astonishment to incomprehension and doubt to rejection. And now it has started. And Qatar and FIFA are being emphatically shown what's what. Normally, in a soccer country like Germany, a World Cup is a really big deal. Flags fly on cars, children wear national jerseys, pubs decorate thematically, every second package in the supermarket looks like soccer, the media is about hardly anything else.
This time it's different. The ratings are way down, many are deliberately boycotting the event - or simply not feeling it. There is no euphoric mood at all - neither here nor there. How could there be. A World Cup for soccer in a country without any soccer tradition. In early winter instead of summer. In an autocracy instead of a democracy. And: there is not even beer in the stadiums - that can't go well at all.
This shot emphatically backfires. Qatar wanted to put itself on the map with this event. It certainly succeeded in doing so. But not in the way it was planned. Nonsensical stadium constructions without a future at the expense of thousands of dead workers, suppression of women's rights and freedom of expression, a devastating environmental and climate balance etcetera are what will stick.
FIFA, too, is caught with its pants down: corrupt hanky-panky, an idiotic president, non-transparent structures, erratic decisions, presumptuous arrogance. And both have only themselves to blame. A melt-down in terms of image cultivation. Not an episode that will be easily forgotten, but a fundamental stigma. Which will remain. Good thing.
By the way: it's a real shame that actual highlights are lost in all this: Saudi Arabia beating Argentina, Morocco beating Belgium, Japan beating Germany: favorites that were thought to be safe losing to underdogs. This is how a sporting competition should be. Sporting - and not political.
Personal happy moment of the week:
I have already told you about my son's problems at school with the beautiful language French. We were even more surprised when he wanted to apply for a student exchange with a French Lycée. He did that very successfully (with a little help from a friend... ;-): on Tuesday we learned that he was the only student from his grade to be selected. So next year in February we will welcome a French student from Nanterre / Paris. And in the month of delight our offspring will celebrate his 15th birthday in the city of love. Mon dieu!
I couldn't care less...
...that Canada has unfortunately already been eliminated from the FIFA Men's World Cup. Because the "golden generation" has - a typical soccer expression - "played its way into the hearts". For their first participation was not really expected success. But there is now a new team on the block. Which will (also) compete in its own country at the next World Cup. There's definitely more to come. You go, canucks!
As I write this...
...I realize that because of the FIFA World Cup (which we are boycotting on TV) even our cherished Sunday crime movie "Tatort" ("crime scene") is cancelled tonight. FIFA and Qatar are apparently really doing everything they can to make themselves unpopular with me.
Post Scriptum:
As you know, when you enter a search term on Google, text suggestions or search queries are suggested to you - a very popular party game. Currently, the first suggestion for "Twitter" is "What do you need Twitter for?" A very topical, and on second thought downright philosophical, question. In this case, I would actually be curious to hear an answer from Elon Musk, the loose gun of the Internet.

MOST POPULAR MAN IN WORLD
MOST POPULAR MAN IN WORLD
DWAYNE JOHNSON ‘THE ROCK’
Born in Hayward, California, on May 2, 1972, Dwayne Douglas Johnson is also known by his stage moniker, The Rock. an American professional wrestler, businessman, and actor. He was exposed to the WWE, and he performs as a wrestler part-time. Along with he is also a member of The Bloodline.
Besides being multi-talented and versatile, his articulate professions made him reflect as the most attractive, influential, and qualitative man. He is in the co-ownership of the United Football League (UFL), He is pertained as a member of the board of directors of TKO Group.
Holdings, the WWE and UFC's parent corporation.
Early Life
Johnson was raised in a household of wrestlers. After attending Glencliff High School and McGavock High School in Nashville, Tennessee, he continued his education at Freedom High School in Bethlehem Township, Pennsylvania, which is located in the Lehigh Valley section of the state.
He trained for the Muhammad Ali "Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974 by sparring with George Foreman. But at first, the younger Johnson seemed more interested in the mat than the football field. He played football for the University of Miami team that won the 1991 NCAA Championship and was a standout athlete in high school (Bachelor of General Studies, 1995).
He went to wrestling after his career in the Canadian Football League was cut short due to injuries.
Emergent into Wrestling
Dwayne Johnson has the finest aptitudes or we can say gifts with an astonishing combination of size, speed, and agility as well as polished microphone skills. In the year 1996, he made his debut in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).
His emergence into the world of wrestling came to appear.
With the name Rocky Maivia, a name that praises his father and his grandfather. He was enthusiastically embraced as a “face” that was the crowd’s favorite.
After a few months of stepping into wrestling, he captured the WWF Intercontinental title. The forceful push, however, caused a backlash from fans, and in later storylines, The Rock—an unrepentant “heel” or “bad guy”—was given more screen time than Rocky Maivia.
The change brought about a rise in popularity. The Rock won the first of multiple world championship titles in 1998 and got into several high-profile feuds with the biggest WWF performers.
The Rock’s stardom and popularity accelerated to grow and the audience still encouraged him even though he was a heel.
The Rock is a wrestling legend, acknowledged by many as one of the greatest in history, featured on wrestling icons' "Mount Rushmore."
The Rock was called "for a long time, the WWE's biggest star and probably held the greatest international appeal" in Cable Visions: Television Beyond Broadcasting. According to R. D. Reynolds, the author of The WrestleCrap Book of Lists, the Rock was "the biggest star for WWE from 1999 until 2004." One of the most well-known "I quit" matches in history, The Rock's 1999 Royal Rumble fight against Mankind is notorious for its ferocity.
Emergent into acting
Johnson's notoriety in wrestling and his well-known work ethic helped him succeed early on when he entered Hollywood. He rose to become one of Hollywood's most lucrative and successful performers during his performing career.
While still a professional wrestler, In the 1999 "That Wrestling Show" episode, he made his on-screen debut as Rocky Johnson, the father of That '70s Show.
He made an appearance as an alien wrestler who faced off against Seven of Nine in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Tsunkatse" almost a year later. WWE kept selling "The Rock" memorabilia and Johnson continued to be prominently featured in the opening montages of their TV shows even after he left the business.
As antagonist Mathayus "The Scorpion King" in The Mummy Returns (2001), Johnson had his debut part in a feature film. In the 2002 follow-up movie The Scorpion King, he reprised his major role. Getting paid 5.5 million dollars for the major role.
His roles as the title character in the fantasy comedy, the Tooth Fairy, a police officer, a cab driver in the science fiction movie, a haughty famous American football player in the sports family comedy, and Agent 23 in the spy action comedy, all brought him more success. At the 80th Academy Awards, he gave the Best Visual Effects Academy Award.
In 2012, Johnson forwarded his production company Seven Bucks Production. However, originally admired as a producer and star, Johnson will now act exclusively as the former in a film adaptation.
Business career

Remembering A Macho Man: The Life And Times Of Randy Savage
13 years ago, the professional wrestling world lost the ‘ Macho Man ’ Randy Savage . This article is to remember his life and his career.
(TW: Death , Car Accidents)
Randy Mario Poffo was born to Angelo and Judy Poffo on November 15,1952 in Colombia , Ohio. He was the eldest child of his parents. His brother, Lanny , was born on December 28,1954. Angelo was a professional wrestler in the 1950s and the 1960s. Poffo was raised in Zanesville , Ohio. He is a graduate of Downers Grove High School. The school is located in Downers Grove, Illinois , a suburb of Chicago. However, wrestling wasn’t his first sport of choice. It was baseball.
Poffo was a catcher on his high school baseball team. Thus, he was drafted by the St.Louis Cardinals out of high school in 1971. He was 18 years old. Poffo was placed in the minor leagues to train before he could play professionally in the MLB ( Major League Baseball). He was mainly an outfielder for the Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds systems. His baseball career ended after being injured in 1974.
Randy broke into the wrestling business in 1973 during the baseball offseason. His first gimmick was called , The Spider. This gimmick is based off of the comic book character, Spider-Man. Nevertheless, his second and most well known gimmick , Randy Savage , was suggested by his trainer and close friend , Terry Stephens and the head booker of Georgia Championship Wrestling ( GCW ) , Ole Anderson. Anderson felt like his real name didn’t fit him and came up with the name Savage because he felt like Randy wrestled ‘ like a savage ’. Poffo retired from baseball and joined his father in the wrestling business. His first match was against a wrestler named Paul Christy in the Midwest Territory. Savage along with his father and brother in the Carolinas, Michigan , the Maritime region , and in Tennessee.
Angelo thought that his family wasn’t getting the proper pushes they deserved as wrestlers, soon, he started his own promotion , International Championship Wrestling ( ICW) , in the Midwest. Soon, the company disbanded and the Poffo brothers went back to Tennessee, joining the Continental Wrestling Association ( CWA) , owned by Jerry ‘ The King ’ Lawler. Randy’s well known matches in this promotion, were against Lawler and teaming with his brother against the Rock N Roll Express.
Randy Savage was soon signed to Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation in June of 1985. He made his TV debut for the company on July 6, 1985 on the show, Championship Wrestling against a local competitor named Aldo Marino. He was “ The Top Free Agent In Professional Wrestling ” . His first appearances on WWF TV were on the talk show ‘ Tuesday Night Titans ’ with managers such as Mr.Fuji , Jimmy Hart , Johnny Valiant ,Bobby Heenan , and Freddie Blassie asking him if they could be his manager. Savage turned them down and chose Miss Elizabeth , who was his actual partner , to be his manager. He made his Pay Per View debut for a 16 man tournament at The Wrestling Classic. He lost in the finals of the tournament to The Junkyard Dog via count out. Later that year, he was involved in a storyline with the Intercontinental Champion , Tito Santana. He challenged Santana for the championship on Saturday Night’s Main Event III , however , Savage won the match via count out . Tito Santana still kept the championship after being counted out. Savage finally won the Intercontinental Championship on February 8 , 1986 by using a steel object he hid in this tights to knock Santana out. He also engaged in storylines with future tag team partner , Hulk Hogan , George ‘ The Animal ’ Steele , Ricky Steamboat , and Bruno Sammartino, the longest reigning WWE World Champion in history.
Randy Savage won the King of The Ring tournament in 1987 . Being a Heel, Savage’s popularity rose to the point of being cheered on by the fans. He soon started a feud with The Honky Tonk Man for the Intercontinental Championship. He soon got his title match with the champion at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He lost out on the championship when The Hart Foundation interrupted the match by attacking Savage in order to help The Honky Tonk Man keep the title due to disqualification. Miss Elizabeth had a plan in mind to help her man. She ran back to the locker room to get some help and found Hulk Hogan. She brought him out and Hogan saved him. The tag team known as The Mega Powers was formed.
The Mega Powers first feud was against The Mega Bucks , the team consisting of Andre The Giant and Ted DiBiase , also known as The Million Dollar Man. Their second feud was against The Twin Towers , the team consisting of The Big Boss Man and Akeem. The Mega Powers starting having problems in 1989 when Hogan decided to take on Miss Elizabeth as his manager. Hogan eliminated Savage during the Royal Rumble by accident. Savage thought that Hogan wanted to steal Elizabeth from him, thus, attacking Hogan’s friend , Brutus The Barber Beefcake, as an act of revenge towards his former partner. This was the first time Savage turned Heel since 1987.
Savage became The Macho King in 1989 after defeating Hacksaw Jim Duggan in the tournament in September of that year. He soon faced Hogan for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship in 1990 at The Main Event III. Savage took on Sensational Sherri as his manager. She became known as Queen Sherri. He had feuds with Dusty Rhodes and The Ultimate Warrior during his time as King of The Ring. His career ending match was against Warrior in 1991. With Savage losing , Sherri attacked him , leaving Miss Elizabeth, who was in the crowd as a fan, jumping the barricade and coming to the aide of Savage. This led to their reunion.
Savage moved his attention from the ring to the commentary desk. He also had a feud with Jake The Snake Roberts as well as Ric Flair. Flair claimed that he had an affair with Miss Elizabeth in 1992. Savage and Elizabeth were separated in real life , this , the storyline continued. Savage and Elizabeth soon divorced the same year. Savage left the WWF in 1994 and signed with World Championship Wrestling the same year , reuniting with Hulk Hogan.
Savage became WCW champion in 1995 by winning the first three ring battle royal. He lost it to Ric Flair at Starrcade of the same year. Savage left WCW and claimed he was blackballed by the company before returning as a member of the nWo , ( New World Order ). He soon took more time off from the company before returning in April of 1999.
Savage returned to WCW in 1999 with a new manager , Gorgeous George. He was also joined by Marisa and Miss Madness, forming Team Madness. In 2004 , Savage signed with TNA Wrestling at the Victory Road Pay Per View.
Randy Savage also made some acting appearances on TV shows like Baywatch , Mad About You , and Walker, Texas Ranger. He also starred in the movie , Ready To Rumble and had a cameo in Spider-Man. He also released a debut rap album with a diss track about Hulk Hogan.
Randy Savage passed away in a car accident on May 20, 2011 at the age of 58. He was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2015.
My Final Thoughts:
Macho Man Randy Savage is a true wrestling icon. He will always be remembered as that wrestler that you loved , hated, or loved to hate. I actually love him. He’s on my list of all time favorite wrestlers. I actually know a wrestling legend who got to work with him on the indie circuit. He said that Randy was one of the most hard working guys he’s ever seen. Randy, thank you for everything! I wish I could go back and watch you live. But , I watch you on Peacock.
Love You All ,
- Kay

No Way Out of Texas: In Your House
February 15, 1998
Compaq Center
Houston, Texas
News & Notes: After hyping his appearance all night, Vince McMahon invited Mike Tyson to the ring. They were going to announce his role for WrestleMania. But Steve Austin interrupted them. Stone Cold said he respected what Tyson did in the ring. However, he was in Austin’s world now. Then Austin said Tyson wasn’t the baddest man. He couldn’t whip the ass of the toughest S.O.B. In the WWF. But Austin could kick his ass. And if Tyson didn’t hear what he said, Austin had some sign language for him. Stone Cold flipped Mike off and the two shoved each other. The WWF officials separated them before it escalated. Vince McMahon screamed at Austin. He told him he ruined everything. The following week, Shawn Michaels offered to forego his WWF title defense at Mania. He’d step aside so Austin could wrestle Tyson. Shawn even offered to be the ref. This couldn’t happen because the athletic commission wouldn’t allow Tyson to fight. So the WWF made Tyson the special enforcer for Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin at Mania. This led to a confrontation between Austin and Michaels. Austin vowed to take Michaels’ belt, no matter when they fought. DX retaliated. They attacked Steve during his bout with Road Dogg. Shawn tied Austin in the ropes and shoved the WWF championship in his face. But Austin got revenge. He stole HBK’s belt. Chyna recruited Los Boricuas to help look for Austin. Stone Cold locked them in a room. (I’ll explain the rest in the main event’s match notes.)
I should discuss DX’s other antics. The night after Royal Rumble, Shawn feigned regret about The Undertaker’s fate. He vowed to find him. (The WWF officials opened the casket after the PPV ended. It was empty. Taker disappeared.) DX looked everywhere. They found a hearse. It was filled with women. Then Taker’s music played in the arena. What appeared to be Taker lowered from the ceiling. But his music changed to DX’s theme. It was Michaels in disguise. DX then mocked Taker with a barbecue in the ring. This included many penis jokes using hot dogs and sausages. During the festivities, Hunter promised Owen a European title match. The next week, an injured Helmsley said Owen would face a Triple H he’d never seen before! He was right. Owen faced The Artist Formerly Known as Goldust in a Triple H costume. Hart won with the Sharpshooter and Helmsley laughed at the ruse. However, Sgt. Slaughter said it was quite convincing. In fact, he considered it a proper title defense. That means Owen Hart is the new European Champion! Meanwhile, DX also held a state of the union address. They addressed the USA Network’s concerns about content. DX promised to only use minor curse words in RAW’s first hour. Then they listed the words they wouldn’t say. They bleeped each one. Next, Shawn addressed rumors about him and an intern. He didn’t sleep with her. Shawn was up all night! (The USA Network loved this segment. They were skeptical about the DX content until they saw this. It turned their opinion on the matter.)
Before I begin, I’ll address one more matter. They built the main event as if Shawn were in it. The WWF didn’t announce he would miss the show until the day of the PPV. Shawn was still getting tests on his back. They knew he was injured. But they didn’t know the extent.

Joyeux anniversaire to French Canadian wrestler PCO aka Jean-Pierre LaFitte aka Pierre Carl Ouellet.
Ouellet has had quite the long career in Pro Wrestling. He first hit the mainstream with the WWF as tag team partner with Jacques Rougeous as the Quebecers. They would win the WWF Tag Titles three times. With Rougeous retiring in 1994, Ouellet was repackaged as the Pirate Jean-Pierre Lafitte. He engaged in a spirited fued with Bret Hart which showcased the his athletic prowess.
He would bounce around for the next few years appearing in WCW with the no longer retired Jacques Rougeous as the Amazing French Canadiens, the WWF once again, ECW, in Puerto Rico in the IWA and in NWA TNA. He would retire in 2011.
It would be five years before Ouellet made his return to the Indy wrestling scene in the U.S. and Canada impressing fans. He would join ROH and continued to impress fans.
What I didn't know about his was that he wrestled with just one eye having lost his vision from his right eye in an accident at the age of 12. The eye patch he wore wasn't a gimmick after all. He continues to work the indy scene to this day.
