The weeks seemed to blur as mornings grew more dull and you couldn’t remember the last time your world was any color other than grey. Your motivation decreased as the days passed by and it felt as though you were missing something important but you weren’t sure what. 

There were moments where you were sure you were remembering, the words on the tip of your tongue yet they always slipped away from your grasp. 

You heaved a sigh, your fingers wrapped around the strap of your bag. Your chest felt heavy as you made your way to the convenience store. These days, you found yourself losing your appetite and you weren’t sure of the reason, instead deciding to blame it on your stress.

You weren’t really looking forward to the convenience store onigiri, but you figured it was better than nothing considering how you could barely finish an actual meal and how little money you actually had in your wallet.

A droplet of water splashed on the back of your hand and you froze, taking a moment to glare up at the sky. The previously sunny weather had somehow disappeared in the time you began your walk back home and now you were left with angry clouds. 

You cursed yourself for not remembering to check the weather and took off your bag to use it as a shield. Almost instantly, the rain began pouring down, your bag doing little to help keep you dry as you sprinted to find the nearest cover. 

Luckily, you stumbled across a bookstore with an overhang on the side of the street. There didn’t seem to be many customers inside so you quickly walked up the steps, breathing a sigh of relief as you placed your bag on the ground and began wringing out your clothes. 

Considering the sunny weather, you opted not to bring a jacket before leaving your house so your thin clothes were now clinging to your skin, making you shiver. Your lips pursed and your brows furrowed as you glanced out from under the overhang at the rain, which was now forming large puddles on the ground. 

It didn’t seem as though the rain would be letting up anytime soon, but fortunately you didn’t have much planned for the rest of the day, other than going home and catching up on some much needed sleep after picking up food at the convenience store.

A flash of red appeared in the corner of your eye and you squinted, your eyes widening when you saw a boy barrelling his way towards where you were standing. For a second you worried about him tripping, but with his confident speed and how he was avoiding all the largest puddles, it didn’t seem as though the chances of him falling was likely.

He looked to be around your age and seemed to be in the same predicament as you as he came to a stop, leaning over with one of his hands placed on his knee, the other clutching a book to his chest. 

His red hair hung in strands around his face and he slicked it back with his free hand, allowing you to see his forehead and wide eyes. Your heartbeat quickened at the sight and you quickly looked away, unsure of why your cheeks were suddenly heating up. 

“Damn,” you heard him mutter and you turned back to see him frowning at the closed sign on the door which explained the lack of customers inside. 

He glanced away and seemed to pause once his eyes locked on you. It seemed as though he hadn’t realized there was someone else standing next to him this entire time.

He scanned your soaked form with a questioning gaze before seeing your bag placed next to your feet. He held up his book, “Were you planning on returning a book too?”

You shook your head, “Just wanted to escape from the rain.”

He nodded in understanding and extended his free hand, “Well, the name’s Tendou.”

Your heart squeezed in your chest and your mouth went dry.

Tendou.

Your reply fell from your lips with ease, almost as though you had heard his name before, “Y/n.”

You placed your hand in his, resisting the urge to pull away. There was something strange about his hand in yours, the coldness of his skin and the warmth in his gaze. 

Something about it felt familiar, almost like home and you weren’t sure how you felt.

“Pleasure to meet you, y/n,” he smiled, tearing his gaze from yours to glance at the rain. “I wish I had met you under better circumstances, but I suppose now is better than never.”

You swallowed the lump in your throat, your words failing you as you struggled to come up with something to say, anything to get rid of this tight feeling in your chest.

He stared back out at the rain, when all you gave him was a nod. His quiet hums filled the silence as he rocked back and forth on his feet and you wondered why the tune made your heart skip a beat, when you didn’t actually recognize the melody from anywhere. 

After a few minutes of waiting, the rain finally lessened. Tendou reached out a hand to catch the drops, letting the water slide past his fingertips. 

“Looks like it’s about time for us to go before it starts back up again,” he murmured, looking back at you to wave good-bye. “It was nice seeing you, y/n.”

He turned around and began walking the way he came from. You opened your mouth to speak, knowing you didn’t want this to be the last time you saw him.

“Tendou,” you called, wincing as your voice cracked. He paused in his tracks and whirled around, curiosity burning in his wide eyes. “Can I-can I see you again?”

He furrowed his brows and you mistook it as rejection, the words quickly rushing out of your mouth as you tried to explain yourself, “It’s just-I don’t know. I feel like I’ve met you before and I can’t help but feel like if I let you walk away, I’ll regret it. It’s okay if you say n-.”

Tendou cut you off with a chuckle. “Relax, I wasn’t going to say no.”

You breathed a sigh of relief, your shoulders sagging. “Oh.”

“I was going to see you tomorrow anyway. We go to the same school so we were bound to cross paths either way.”

Your cheeks burned as he pointed to the logo on your bag. It seemed you had embarrassed yourself for nothing.

He smiled, lifting a hand to wave at you again, “Good-bye for real this time. I’ll see you when we meet again.” 

“See you,” you murmured, your heart hammering in your chest as you imprinted his retreating back in your memory.
