ive determined doki's hometown is likely in the northern portion of british columbia due to several factors
The lake's North American First Nation parodying name (Lake Weewannanoh) implies it's in North America. off topic, but in general the act of making up something that sounds like another language but is just words in your native language seems a bit culturally insensitive, moreso when the other language belongs to a marginalized group. im not a north american first nations person in any way though so id like to hear what yall think about this trope
Crossbuck design in S03E17 (figure 1) is Canadian - white with a red outline and no text. American and Mexican crossbucks are white with black text.
S03E12 has a short earthquake happen in their town, implying their town is somewhere where earthquakes are not too relatively uncommon
The train design in S03E17 (also figure 1), according to a friend, seems to suggest either the EMD SD60M or the NRE E-3000E3B. respectively, these are associated with the CNW and WPY railroads. the former being more american than canadian, combined with the earthquake point, leads me to lean towards the latter as most likely railroad featured. obviously it's intended to be a fictional railroad, but i'm working on assumptions of real-world consistency to allow me to write ridiculous crossover material with other IPs. now to narrow down to which of the two canadian territories the WPY crosses could be the one…
S01E23 phrases their destination as "a part of canada called the yukon", an unfamiliar phrasing precluding the town from being in the yukon itself
S03E28 phrases their destination as just "british columbia, canada", which is familiar enough to not preclude it. nothing else in the episode seems to preclude it either.
#doki#fan theory#i know this is 100% not the intention of the writers and animators but hey. death of the author#railroad#first nations

A White Pass Indeed! por David Blazejewski Por Flickr: A special 5 car White Pass and Yukon Route charter is at MP 20.4 the dividing line between the American and Canadian Subdivisions at an elevation of 2865 ft. The spectacular 3 ft narrow gauge route has climbed from tidewater to the top of the coast range at this aptly named mountain crossing in that scant 20 mile distance! On the head end of the train are WPY 98 and 91, originally GE shovel nose 90 class units built new for the railroad in May 1966 and Jun 1954 respectively as GE pattern GEX3341 with Alco 6-251A prime movers. 98 was part of the fourth order of the type arriving a dozen years after the first shovelnose came to the railroad of which 91 was a part. These units were converted in 2008 and 2009 into CERES 140 and CLEAR 140 models by Coast Equipment and Engineering and Global Locomotive LLC respectively with new Cummins QSK45L prime movers. Despite the rebuild these classic units have since been supplanted by six NRE E3000CC-DC units and now all but two are up for sale. White Pass Summit - British Columbia, Canada Monday April 25, 2011

The Workforce Pathways for Youth (WPY) program expands job training and workforce activities for youth, including soft-skill development, career exploration, job readiness and certification, summer jobs, year-round job opportunities and apprenticeships in out-of-school time organizations nationwide. The program allows out-of-school time organizations to partner with local workforce boards and youth-serving organizations, bridging the gap between their existing activities and the need to expose youth to career-related services to better prepare them to enter the workforce. Applications must be submitted electronically no later than December 3, 2024 by 11:59 pm ET.LEARN MORE
Clean Energy Careers For All (CEC4A)
The Clean Energy Careers for All (CEC4A) opportunity will support workforce development programming that broadens participation and engages individuals from many different groups within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in ways that promote interest in careers that support the nation’s transition to clean energy. Eligible participants are non-profit 501(c)(3) or non-lobbying 501(c)(6) educational organizations, including engineering, scientific, and technical societies that can reach across various levels of future workforce populations. CEC4A will provide up to 10 awards of ~$300,000 each. Deadline to submit is December 13, 2024 by 5:00pm ET.LEARN MORE

Les grands gagnants du concours Wildlife Photographer of the year, organisé par le Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle de Londres
See on Scoop.it - EntomoNews

The ancient mariner by Laurent Ballesta, France. Winner, portfolio award ‘The golden horseshoe’
A tri-spine horseshoe crab moves slowly over the mud. Its golden protective carapace hides 12 appendages. Above the horseshoe crab, a trio of juvenile golden trevallies are poised to dart down for edible morsels ploughed up by its passage.Portfolio Story: Laurent Ballesta went looking for the crabs in the protected waters of Pangatalan Island in the Philippines. Marine biologist and photographer Laurent Ballesta has dedicated his life to exploring the oceans and revealing their wonder through art. He has led a series of expeditions, all involving scientific mysteries and diving challenges, resulting in unprecedented images. The tri-spine horseshoe crab has survived for more than 100m years but faces habitat destruction and overfishing for food and for its blood, used in the development of vaccines. But, in the protected waters off Pangatalan Island, there is hope for its survival. Location: Pangatalan Island, Palawan, the Philippines

Should we continue to showcase the aesthetic beauty of nature? Absolutely. But we will never shy away from the uncomfortable truth of the realities of the natural world or its perilous state.
WPY will continue to give a platform to the work of passionate and talented photographers all over the world who can bring us these stories on behalf of animals and ecosystems in need of our attention and our compassion.
