UN Women together with WPS-HA Compact Board Co-Chairs, Norway and the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP), and WPS-HA Compact Board and Catalytic members and Signatories will gather for the launch of the Accountability report and to discuss opportunities for continued and strengthened action, accountability and collaboration.

The release of the inaugural 2022 WPS-HA Compact Accountability Report reviews the implementation of Signatory actions in 2022. As military expenditure continues to skyrocket, and financing for gender equality in conflict and crisis contexts and women's organizations remains severely inadequate in proportion to the need. Fifty-nine per cent implemented actions in a country where peace has declined from 2021 to 2022.

Seventy-one per cent reported on the Compact's principles of transformation, which foster localization, intergenerational action, inclusivity and intersectionality, a multistakeholder action across the humanitarian-development-peace (HDP) nexus. The report shows that Signatories have made commendable progress, and their reporting contributes to increased accountability, stronger coordination and evidence-guided strategies for sustainable peace.

As bad (and hilarious) as this all is, I got curious about the company that put on this event. Did they somehow overreach? Did the actors they hired back out at the last minute? (Or after they saw the script...) Oddly enough, it doesn't seem so!

Given what I found when poking around I'm legit surprised there was an event at all. Cuz this outfit seems to be 100% a scam.

The website for this specific event is here and it has many AI generated images on it, as stated. I don't think anyone who bought tickets looked very closely at these images, otherwise they might have been concerned about how much Catgacating their children would be exposed to.

Curious about the events company behind this disaster, I took myself over to the homepage of House of Illuminati and I was not disappointed.

This abomination of a website is a badly edited WordPress blog filled with AI art and just enough blog posts to make the casual viewer think that it's a legit business for about 0.0004 seconds.

Their attention to detail is stunning, from how they left up the default first post every WP blog gets to how they didn't bother changing the name on several images, thus revealing where they came from. Like this one:

There are a suspicious number of .webp images in the uploads, which makes me think they either stole them from other sites where AI "art" was uploaded or they didn't want to pay for the hi-res versions of some and just grabbed the preview image.

The real fun came when I noticed this filename: Before-and-After-Eventologists-Transformation-Edgbaston-Cricket-Ground-1024x1024-1.jpg and decided to do a Google image search. Friends, you will be shocked to hear that the image in question, found on this post touting how they can transform a boring warehouse into a fun event space, was stolen from this actual event planner.

Even better, this weirdly grainy image?

From a post that claims to be about the preparations for a "Willy Wonka" experience (we'll get to this in a minute), is not only NOT an actual image of anyone preparing anything for Illuminati's event, it is stolen from a YouTube thumbnail that's been chopped to remove the name of the company that actually made this. Here's the video.

If you actually read the blog posts they're all copypasta or some AI generated crap. To the point where this seems like not a real business at all. There's very specific business information at the bottom, but nothing else seems real.

As I said, I'm kinda surprised they put on an event at all. This has, "And then they ran off with all our money!" written all over it. I'm perplexed.

And also wondering when the copyright lawyers are gonna start calling, because...

This post explicitly says they're putting together a "Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory Experience" complete with golden tickets.

Somewhere along the line someone must have wised up, because the actual event was called "Willys Chocolate Experience" (note the lack of apostrophe) and the script they handed to the actors about 10 minutes before they were supposed to "perform" was about a "Willy McDuff" and his chocolate factory.

As I was going through this madness with friends in a chat, one pointed out that it took very little prompting to get the free Chat GPT to spit out an event description and such very similar to all this while avoiding copyrighted phrases. But he couldn't figure out where the McDuff came from since it wasn't the type of thing GPT would usually spit out...

Until he altered the prompt to include it would be happening in Glasgow, Scotland.

You cannot make this stuff up.

But truly, honestly, I do not even understand why they didn't take the money and run. Clearly this was all set up to be a scam. A lazy, AI generated scam.

Everything from the website to the event images to the copy to the "script" to the names of things was either stolen or AI generated (aka stolen). Hell, I'd be looking for some poor Japanese visitor wandering the streets of Glasgow, confused, after being jacked for his mascot costume.

“The precise winding method with Duma keeps the variation in length to under one degree, so that a bank of bobbins can be changed at precisely the same which enables very concrete savings to be made,” Durak explains. “Because of the lack of centre and the compaction of the yarn, we get three times the amount of product on each bobbin and the result is a high reduction in the times required for changes. We have calculated that over the course of a shift, this is achieving what could normally be produced on twelve advanced machines with just ten.”

Working on a similar principle is the Duraless hollow core thread, and both have a melting points of 260ºC and soften at between 220-240ºC. A very high heat tolerance is achieved compared to conventional sewing threads when the shrinkage rate at 150ºC is calculated to be less than 1%. The threads show high resistance to most mineral acids, are unaffected by bleaching and micro-organisms and do not deteriorate in washing and dry cleaning.

Functionality

Other innovations focus on functionality, including the new SilverPro conductive thread for smart textiles and wearable technologies, luminous Milky Way, Redolent scented thread, the Fire-Safe range of meta-aramids and para-aramids and the Cut Safe range manufactured from various combinations of UHMWPE, glass fibre and elastane.

“Despite many obstacles in 2023, we managed to grow the business and this year anticipate further growth of around 30% and now export to over 100 countries,” says Yigit Durak in conclusion. “Research and development remains the bedrock of our business and our entire 300-strong team in Bursa holds regular brain-storming sessions to fully explore new concepts and ideas. The success stories are fully certified and patented prior to launch and today approximately 20-25% of our total turnover is provided by technical threads. This will only increase in the future.”

Goyal Offset Works' new Heidelberg CX92 4-color press

Goyal Offset Works, a large-scale commercial printer has installed a new Heidelberg Speedmaster CX92 4-color offset press to enhance the considerable production capacity of its massive plant in Kundli in the Delhi NCR.

Established in 1978, the company was founded by CL Goyal in central Delhi’s Daya Basti and it has kept moving to larger plants as the business grew – first to GT Karnal Road and then to its current plant in the Kundli industrial area near Sonepat. The commercial printer is focused on book production and also produces season-based calendars and diaries for its customers.

After completing his formal education Goyal increasingly took over the management role and focused on growing the company’s production infrastructure. “We imported a Heidelberg CPTronic 4-color press with coater directly from Italy to tend to our other products such as calendars. After using that machine productively, our interest grew in Heidelberg.”

As the company continued to invest in production equipment it ultimately set up three plants in the GT Karnal Road industrial area. However, the space constraints and moving back and forth between the plants became increasingly stressful and the growing commercial printer finally shifted base to Kundli in 2017. “In GT Karnal Road, our total production area was 45,000 square feet. The new plant in Kundli has a built-up area of 500,000 square feet on a single floor,” he explained. This means that all the operations and material movement including the postpress, finishing and bookbinding take place on a single floor.

Apart from the new 4-color Heidelberg offset which is a first for Goyal Offset, the plant contains several used Heidelberg offset presses including a 10-color perfector, two 8-color perfectors, and four 4-color presses. He feels quality triumphs in the business and the new press has a compact size that fits perfectly on the company’s floor since the book production workflow generally contains a significant amount of work in progress.

The in-house postpress and binding department provides all finishing options including section sewing and hard case binding. According to Goyal, the company can bind books up to 70 mm thick.

Though many printers indicate that commercial printing has slowed down, Goyal feels book printing will continue to thrive. “Book printing will not face any downfall in the foreseeable future. The digital medium is growing but readers still prefer printed books. For instance, I don’t know anyone who collects eBooks. Kindle and other mediums are not able to retain users or even grow in terms of market share. Be it education or leisure, printed books will remain relevant.”

With a turnover of over Rs 50 crore, the company exports 25% of its production. Goyal plans to visit drupa, which is taking place from 28 May to 7 June in Dusseldorf,  to improve his already substantial understanding of the global trends in book printing and finishing.
