3rd house placements and your voice!
hii, i wanted to do more of a light & fun themed post that goes over the kind of voice you have, the type of communicator you are, and other things as well according to your 3rd house placements. if you do not have any placements in your third, check out the house ruler and apply it accordingly, ex; my third house is ruled by pisces, apply the neptune features to it!
sun in 3rd house - talk about thinking out-loud!! sun in 3rd people are such great communicators, they get things across loud and clear. never ones to hold back, natural conversationalists, and you have a voice that often sounds younger. when you talk it's heartfelt and you feel that half-assings in conversations is just not you! sometimes, your age is mistaken due to your lengths of knowledge and the ability to express your inner child through your interests. you use your hands often when you speak! often have such a memorable voice and this placement is a strong indicator of being a music artist too; justin beiber, jay z, drake, britney spears, all very household names and all are always getting their voice impersonated by other people interestingly enough!! there's versatility that spews through these people, not hard at all for them to improvise, standup, debate, etc. can be gossipy though and involved in dramas very easily because of this.
moon in 3rd house - mental clarity goes crazy here. your emotions give you all the drive you need- creatively and you don't hold back on that. they intellectualize their emotions and can formulate feelings into words very well. the kind of voice they have is much softer, eloquent, and comforting. they're the kind of people that send you a voicemail and you listen to it over and over again because it's endearing. "say it with your chest," type of people, as the moon is mostly fixated in the chest-stomach region. they have a good discernment of their environment, walking analysts, know when to intervene, etc. celebrities with moon in 3rd; jennifer aniston, megan markle, margot robbie, etc.
mercury in 3rd house - very fast-paced talkers, versatile in the way they communicate. also uses their hands while they speak, has a witty and sarcastic tint to them when they speak. often very humorous people and naturally highly innovative. for these people ideas flow into them at fast rates, often giving them plenty of projects to work on. placement of high intelligence, and great at mirroring. "excuse me, may i interrupt," types of people. love adding on to others and i notice with 3rd house mercuries as they get older, they do become a lot quieter and keep ideas to themselves. celebrities with this include; jim carey, nikola tesla, stephen hawking, etc. (like i said super wise and funny thats a dub for sure)
venus in 3rd house - first thing that comes to mind is glamorous voice. often times they talk about their love-lives (yes they always have the craziest stories about others or themselves in love). just like the sun, these people have a notable voice too. one that can even get them famous. often these people have strong followings, or crowds that really like listening to them. highly influential and lowkey some party heads. might have some commitment troubles, but other than that they have good projecting voices- soothing, and has good posture too. celebs with this; cristiano ronaldo, taylor swift, kris jenner, etc.
mars in 3rd house - i like to say they have some of the most electric voices ever. seriously. they know exactly how to spice up conversations and they move a lot when they talk. they inspire others to take course of action, usually very good individuals at gaining crowds as well, but what differentiates venusian people and mars people- is the attitude. mars gain people's attention through their eccentric-ness. other people find mars in 3rd house bundles of expression, always on the go and actually very good manifestos. usually has raspiness and deepness to their voices because they tend to shout a lot. celebs with this; miley cyrus, harry styles, katy perry, etc.
jupiter in 3rd house - these people have a love for languages. usually very diverse linguistically, and always the guy that knows a guy. very good at developing acquaintances in their environment. usually has more high-pitched voices, slow and even sensual, but clear. they like knowing a bit of everything while they can. sometimes, these people can attract things out of thin air, and receive many comments on their voice or abilities to make their life experiences sound a lot less gruesome than it really is. kind of in their own little world and has open demeanor. often times you see these people unexpectedly associating with others that "make no sense" for them or in environments that "make no sense for them". side note: the biggest struggle these people will face is people trying to mold them to be somebody they're not. they love to expand wherever they can. celebrities with jupiter in 3rd; lana del rey, lionel messi, jim carey, and gordon ramsey.
saturn in 3rd house - mean big business ok!! let me tell you, these people are amazing at using their environments for their endeavors. they're very humble speakers, reserved and kind of talk when asked to. they are great at explaining principles of underlying things, usually seems older than what they really are. they stick to one thing at a time, and they are actually easy to read while talking to them. their body language is more telling than their words sometimes. watch a saturn in 3rd house's jaw clench when they are stressed, or crack their knuckles while thinking heavily. celebrities with this placement; steve jobs, kylie jenner, bjork, zoe kravitz, etc.
uranus in 3rd house - "you can't outdo the doer," is what i get from this placement. highly intellectual people, makes significant shifts into the world. when they speak, they're actually very good at impressions, get told they don't look like how they sound, or will attract many "haters" because they challenge status quo mentality. they will never stand down when communicating their deepest interests. they seem quirky & nerdy, however highly reliable and feels a strong sense of "these people need me." as they become older, they are more cherished, while they are younger they might seem air headed. their voices are so unique to them, that you cannot easily be reminded of them by others. they are completely in their own lanes. one of a kinds. celebrities with this placement; albert einstein, elon musk, celine dion, michael jordan, etc.
neptune in 3rd house - has a deep understanding of the environment they're in. they are very quiet and timid. these people really like to connect to people based off their souls and not their physical forms. and when they speak, they have a genuine tone and strive for genuine connection. sometimes, these people think many people they cross paths with are meant to make them feel good, feel bad, question, etc. highly accepting and others can admire this person too. seems ditzy, but on the inside is a whirlpool of feeling and emotions they sense. sometimes they can get abnormal praise, simply for the way they express themselves. i notice with these people they love to make facial movements when speaking, like very dramatically sometimes. you can always tell when these people are nervous too, watch how many times they shake their feet to soothe themselves. always seems very introspective wherever they go. celebrities with this placement; al pacino, leonardo dicaprio, beyonce, kendrick lamar, etc.
pluto in 3rd house - bringing pluto into this mix, wherever they go they love to change what they can in their environments. they want to change things for the better, and usually really find interest in talking about things that isn't so typical in conversation. they are very serious people when in discussion. they hate to say a lot without leaving impact. these people will sound much older and have a profound tone. often they bring the collective darkness to a collective lightness. i notice they love using metaphors, talking in 3rd person, and dropping their egos a lot in conversations. makes undeniable changes to societal norms or social structures. these are life changers and add some humanitarianism to everyday encounters, really love dropping a lot of their own lore too! celebrities with this; angelina jolie, martin luther king, adam levine, kylian mbappe.
thank you so much for skimming through this i appreciate it as always, let me know if you relate, disagree etc. super interesting in seeing what you think, let me know if u want me to do more like these <3

if I remember right, a year or two ago you made a list of recommendations for the Edinburgh Fringe. Any recommendations for this year? Already got Steffan on the list, obviously
I did! Okay, okay, here's what I've got this year. Caveat: I personally have not been up there yet (I'm going in a few days), but these are things I saw in preview/have heard great things about.
Steffan Alun: Free Standup, but at What Cost
Venue 156: PBH's Free Fringe @ Banshee Labyrinth - Banquet Hall, 21.30-22.30
Back again! Eighth Fringe, this. The show is an hour, but that includes a 15 minute warm-up act, then Steff for 45 mins. He does this so that reviewers won't come and ruin the vibe.
Anyway this year he talks a bit about being Welsh and how he is therefore grumpy with Bristolian Tesco self-checkout machines
.
Jake Baker: Rule Breaker!
Venue 78: PBH's Free Fringe @ Canons' Gait - Lower, 16.30-17.30
I love Jake, he's lovely. He's a gentle soul and has an excellent delivery style; very warm and deceptively witty. Normally he goes with Just The Tonic and is given a searing hot basement in the sky that smells of mould for a room, but this year he's in Canons' Gait, which is much much nicer.
His blurb: A rule-breaker, a risk taker, a wave-maker and a convention-shaker – all phrases never before used to describe Jake Baker. But when a frustrating game of Alan Turing-themed Monopoly leaves him questioning the laws of the game, he finds himself turning that analytical impulse to bigger things.
.
Stephanie Laing: Rudder
Venue 300: Underbelly, George Square - The Wee Coo, 14.50-15.50
This show is particularly Tumblr-friendly, actually; it's described as 'neurodiversity-led'. However, it's a show with a content warning, although all the ticket page is saying is "themes" (insert Stephen Fry meme here); so, <SPOILER> she talks about withdrawing consent while sleeping with a FIB, and him continuing anyway. She talks about it in a very gentle way, avoiding Big Words, and it's very heavy on aftercare </SPOILER>
Her blurb: A comedy dance show about balance. Stephanie has a history of falling over a lot, accidentally kneeing herself in the face, and falling in love with total kn*bheads. In this show she uses a mixture of stand-up and dance to talk about bodies, sex, dancing, liking yourself, consent and healing. Also, there are cartoon bears and burlesque.
.
Erin McKinnie: The Faff Chronicles
Venue 108: Hoots @ The Apex - Hoot 4, 16.50-17.50
An Edinburgh local! Good solid standup for those who like such things. New-ish, but one to watch, she's very good. Don't be surprised to see her take off
Her blurb: What a faff! Erin McKinnie, a rising star on the Scottish comedy circuit, talks about faffing through early adulthood – from rogue adventures to living the "below-deck life" on cruise ships – she finds the funny in every bizarre encounter in this uplifting show that asks: Do we really need a life plan? Or... are we all just winging it? A brilliant, snort-worthy giggle-fest about exiting your 20s, facing life indecision and chasing answers for those big questions, all the while trying to convince your mother that this is a real job...
.
Alexander Bennett: Emotional Daredevil
Venue 24: Gilded Balloon Patter House - Coorie, 18.20-19.20
Dark feelings show with a really positive, optimistic message and a fun concept. It uses audience participation, but that's not compulsory, you're safe.
Blurb: I'm the emotional daredevil, and for my next feat, I need someone's help. A show about risk, for the unsatisfied and traumatised, from a Chortle Award nominee
.
Alex Franklin: Gurl Code
Venue 61: Underbelly, Cowgate - Delhi Belly, 20.25-21.25
Alex does a fun thing each year where she takes her publicity budget and rather than spending it on publicity, she hides it somewhere in Edinburgh and then reveals a clue to its location every day. This tells you something about her, I think
Her blurb: In 2024, trans girl Alex (me) started HRT. Now she (me) feels the most alive she's (me's) ever felt; and she wants to make you feel alive too, or die trying. A ludicrous, musical, chaotic, joyful show about the colours of the world becoming slowly brighter and giving people furniture via the tube. Also being trans.
.
Character Building Experience
Venue 49: Bedlam Theatre - Bedlam Theatre, 20.00-21.00
It's a D&D show - the MC Sasha Ellen makes a bunch of 40-minute simple campaigns and a selection of pre-rolled characters to do them, and then gets three comedians each time to play them. You know the drill. Good quality fun, and different each time, since you'll never see the same campaign/comedian mix.
.
2 Truths, 1 Lie
Multiple venues and times (search the EdFringe app or website to see them all), but I recommend catching the 3pm show on either the 25th or 26th August at Venue 108: Hoots @ The Apex - Hoot 1 for reasons I shall not share here (ooh, mysterious)
Fun panel-like show! Often MC'd by Steff, especially if you catch one of the 3pm shows. The format is:
Three comedians each declare a statement. Two are true, but one comedian is lying. The MC doesn't know the liar, nor does the audience. The audience gets to ask questions of the comedians; at the end, they vote on who they think the liar is.
(The prize for winning is a smug sense of satisfaction.)
.
Anyway, once I'm up there I will possibly have more, but currently, that's my list

how would you rank/rate the Anubis kids based on sense of humor?
Oooo this is a great question because humor is so subjective. Cuz from an outside perspective, some of the things I find funny, I probs would not be laughing if I was actually in the scenarios these kids were in. But this is also interesting because the things I find funny about characters isn’t necessarily their sense of humor……… I’m overthinking it, aren’t I? Okay let me give this a shot, from least fav sense of humor to favorite sense of humor:
Mara: I’d know she was joking, but I fear I wouldn’t understand the joke she was making.
Willow: Willow for the same reasons as Amber, but I’d also be worried I was bullying her if I laughed. They’re tied for the bottom
Amber: I actually think she’s hilarious from an outsider perspective (and so quotable), but in context, I feel like I’d always been second-guessing if she was serious or not, and that would drive me crazy. So she’s pretty much at the bottom for sense of humor styles.
Mick: He is so dumb, that there’s a similar problem with the “is he kidding or am I being a bully” but when he’s actively joking, he’s hysterical.
Jerome: all his jokes are so mean spirited I think I’d actually crash out on him. But when he’s just doing one-liners I would chuckle.
Alfie: He and Jerome have similar senses of humor, but Alfie’s is more ridiculous and less mean. And I grew up on the millennials’ internet so I still kinda enjoy the “random XD” style humor he has, sorry not sorry
KT: She also has a bit of the random humor, but it’s very endearing. And she has such great facial expressions that it’s also more physical comedy
Eddie: Bro is so lame, but he’s also pretty sharp with the humor when he actually tries. “Define ‘near the school’” is such an underrated joke from him, it cracks me up every time.
Nina: Her, Patricia, and Joy are tied for their witty sarcasm, but I feel like Nina’s doesn’t always land quite right.
Joy: She’s so quick with it, but she hurts my feelings sometimes.
Patricia: Her tongue is so sharp and her insults are so funny, and when she’s just joking you know she’s just joking.
Fabian: He and I would get on like a house on fire. He is the FUNNIEST in that house idc what anyone says. His sassy one-liners are unmatched, he’d do great in standup, and he can pull the most insane facial expressions ever.
#this is a bit wishy-washy and I don’t even know that I agree with myself but here ya go#tess answers#ask#house of anubis#sibuna

thank you anon 🥹 i never take it for granted!
anon i don’t want to rub it in but it was SO good ㅜㅜ
i thought we were past shows about lockdown — and i don’t mean that in a shady way, i just figured that era of sets was over — but mulberry is strictly about the first through third lockdowns and his (failed) coping. (please forgive me if this next part doesn’t make sense—) have you ever been to the movies and even in a serious moment people laugh? for some reason that you just can’t deduce? maybe they’re embarrassed to be feeling touched or vulnerable in public or with their friends, so it’s an awkward chuckle or they mistakenly feel they need to clear the air? is that just me? i don’t think tim created too many of these touching, vulnerable moments, but there were a few raw lines about just how lonely and confusing the whole experience was between jokes, and i wonder how much the audience really absorbed the overall narrative and some of the more poignant admissions — because it was just so funny and his crowdwork was amazing. it was really so insight and interesting!
he subtly played with music, his props were few but so witty, he shouted and whispered, his poems were hilarious (and, actually, not as dirty as usual lol), he made friends, he hyped up jodie whittaker. it was a blast. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. he greeted everyone coming in and stayed afterward at the venue bar and chatted with everyone! i said, “thanks so much for visiting us, we love seeing you 🥹” and he went “no thank you for coming! 🥹” and i nodded and he nodded and i let him be. such a sweetheart! just like russell, you could just feel the pride radiating off of him living his dream in my city. that always means a lot to me 🥹
it’s been such a fun, insightful week between russell and tim! they both reminded me just how much substance can be found in a well-crafted standup routine; panel shows are pretty brainless, which is what i love about them and what makes them really necessary in my complex system of coping with this difficult world, but i loved seeing these silly people show me more ways to see the world, handle the world, connect with people, connect with myself. we all need to hear that stuff sometimes. very chuffed!!

Have you ever considered getting into standup comedy
Honestly, yes. I fully believe that I have the right awkward charm for it. Closest I'll get is writing and playing witty music though - I'm not really one for just talking into a silent room.

Mia Farrow, Barbara Hershey, and Dianne Wiest in Hannah and Her Sisters (Woody Allen, 1986)
Cast: Barbara Hershey, Carrie Fisher, Michael Caine, Mia Farrow, Dianne Wiest, Maureen O'Sullivan, Lloyd Nolan, Max von Sydow, Woody Allen, Lewis Black, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Julie Kavner, J.T. Walsh, John Turturro. Screenplay: Woody Allen. Cinematography: Carlo Di Palma. Production design: Stuart Wurtzel. Film editing: Susan E. Morse.
As an actor, Woody Allen has two personae: the nebbishy neurotic that was the mainstay of his early career as a standup comedian, and the witty, self-effacing charmer who can credibly win the hearts of such co-stars as Diane Keaton, Mia Farrow, and Dianne Wiest. He appears in both personae in Hannah and Her Sisters. As Mickey, he suffers from hypochondria and a fear of death so severe that when he discovers he doesn't have a brain tumor he goes through a desperate but comic search for God, even going so far as to try to convert to Catholicism. He also plays the successful lover, winning Holly (Wiest) after an earlier misfired attempt. But Allen is not the only actor in the film who is playing the two "Woody Allen" personae: As Elliot, who is married to Mickey's ex-wife, Hannah (Farrow), Michael Caine also becomes both the neurotic and the charmer in his obsession with Hannah's sister, Lee (Barbara Hershey). So what we get is Elliot as Mickey's psychological doppelgänger. (Mickey was once married to Hannah and Holly is also her sister, reinforcing the duplication.) That all of this works as well as it does -- and sometimes it doesn't -- is why the film remains one of Allen's most successful. It was a critical and commercial hit, receiving seven Oscar nominations (including best picture) and winning three: for Caine and Wiest as supporting performers and for Allen as writer -- he was also nominated as director. It is certainly well-structured, given the intricacy of the various interrelationships among the three sisters and their husbands and lovers. I think the weakest part of the structure is Allen's own performance; unlike Caine, he never succeeds in integrating the two personae. Some of the problem is the way his role is written: The comedy of his hypochondria is too broad for a film that takes on some serious issues in the way people deal with infatuation and infidelity, and when Mickey recovers from his obsession with God and death, Allen borrows shamelessly from Preston Sturges's Sullivan's Travels (1941) by having Mickey snap out of it while watching the Marx Brothers in Duck Soup (Leo McCarey, 1933), just as Sullivan recovers from his own funk by watching a Disney cartoon. But there is a real sophistication in the way Allen ends his somewhat Chekhovian comedy by playing on our expectation of a happy ending. All of the characters in the film are far too morally compromised for a simple resolution, so Allen gives us what just appears to be one: a Thanksgiving party with all of the sisters and their husbands accounted for. At the very end, we find that Mickey and Holly are not only married now, but she's pregnant. Fade out, music and credits up. Perhaps only as we're walking out of the theater do we remember that it has earlier been well established that Mickey is infertile.

ECP0950 John Cooper Clarke at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, SF, 10/5/2024
The legendary Bard of Salford, Manchester punk poet, and wickedly witty raconteur John Cooper Clarke brought his wild flights of language to San Francisco’s annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival on October 5, 2024. A small audience gathered in a remote corner of Golden Gate Park by the Horseshoe Hill Stage to enjoy Dr. Clarke’s unique combination of standup comedy and working class poetry, delivered in a thick Manchester accent.
They say England and the US are two nations separated by a common language, but once the stage sound was adjusted (John Cooper Clarke offered to strike the mic with a monkey wrench if it would help), the mostly American audience delighted in his clever, surreal approach to language. The words tumbled out, sometimes rude, sometimes sweet, sometimes profound, always hilarious.

HOW CAN A STANDUP COMEDIAN GIVE TRIBUTE TO HIS FAVOURITE ARTIST?
It's normal for a standup comic to look up to and be impressed by the work of other comedians. Celebrating your favourite artist's work, whether they are a comedian, musician, actor, or someone else entirely, can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
In this blog post, we'll discuss some novel approaches standup comics can take when paying homage to their favourite performers, like wearing a comedy t-shirt. Blending satire, anecdote, and awe into one hilarious and thought-provoking set is another way.
INCORPORATE THEIR STYLE AND MANNERISMS
One way to pay tribute to your favourite artist is to incorporate their style and mannerisms into your performance. Whether it's their unique voice, catchphrases, or signature gestures, combining these elements can connect with the audience and evoke a sense of nostalgia.
However, it's important to balance imitation and originality, infusing your comedic style into the tribute to maintain authenticity. You can wear a 90s t-shirt resembling their style and feel their confidence.
WEAR A COMEDY T-SHIRT
Wearing a printed t-shirt is a common way for standups to show appreciation for the greats who came before them. Putting on a t-shirt with a famous comedian's name, logo, or catchphrase can help you in more ways than one.
First, it honours the legendary comics who have had a lasting impact on the field. It's a chance for comics to pay tribute to the legends who paved the way for them. Wearing funny t-shirts can help bring together the comedy community and the fans that love them.
Overall, donning a comedy t-shirt is a great way to publicly show your admiration and appreciation for those who have made significant contributions to the field of humour. Many modern standup comics have used this practice to pay homage to the past.
PERFORM PARODIES OR SPOOFS
Another way to pay tribute to your favourite artist is by creating parodies or spoofs of their work. If your famous artist is a musician, you can create comedic song parodies that mimic their style while adding humorous lyrics.
For actors or public figures, you can develop skits or monologues that capture their essence while adding comedic twists. These parodies or spoofs entertain the audience and showcase your creativity and ability to blend humour with admiration.
CRAFT HUMOROUS OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THEIR WORK
As a standup comic, you have a special vantage point on the comedy and entertainment industries. Take advantage of this angle to make witty criticisms of your favourite artist's work. Sharing these insights helps you showcase the artist's abilities.
Also, you can add your hilarious touch, whether on their funny timing, delivery, or repeating themes. Your wit and wisdom will be well received, and your admiration for the artist's work will shine through.
INCORPORATE CALLBACKS AND REFERENCES
Including nods and references to the work of your favourite artists will help you bond with your listeners. Callbacks and references like these, which quote famous lines, or recreate unforgettable moments, let the audience join in on the appreciation and nostalgia.
You skillfully incorporate elements of other funny works into your own, resulting in a charming blend of tribute and creativity. Put your amusing spin on these tales to show appreciation while making people express their emotions.
SHARE PERSONAL STORIES AND ANECDOTES
Personal anecdotes on the artist's influence on your life are common components of moving tributes. Sharing anecdotes about the artist, whether humorous, inspirational, or performance-related, helps the listener identify with your feelings of awe and respect.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Stand-up comedians can combine their passion for humour and true appreciation by doing homage to their favourite artists. Create a one-of-a-kind and entertaining tribute demonstrating your talent while paying homage to the artist who inspired you.
Incorporating elements of their style, sharing personal experiences, performing parodies, writing amusing quips, and interacting with other like-minded fans. The award should reflect your sense of humour and uniqueness while conveying your highest regard to the recipient.
It's time to take the stage and pay homage to the musical genius who has inspired you by singing the songs you adore by wearing a stylish and comfortablecomedy t-shirt.Buy these amazing tees from VIPWees.

lee jordan ( harry potter , keith powers fc ) ; 28 years old ; uses he/him ; is unaware that he is not from washington dc ; been stuck here for ~ a few weeks . wizard .
lee is : loyal , fearless , witty , unpredictable , secretive , guarded , and outgoing . this is my second time brining lee to washington , but he doesn't remember his initial time here and is a bit different now !
back home in the wizarading world , you may remember lee as the popular , happy-go-lucky prankster and quidditch announcer who was besties with the weasleys twins , had a public crush on angelina johnson , joined dumbledore’s army , and later hosted potterwatch to help keep people informed during the wars .
in dc , lee plays on several community sports teams , runs a town gossip and sports livestream on twitch + a podcast , and performs standup comedy as a side gig . underneath all his bravado and silliness is a very sensitive and thoughtful guy , but he keeps that part of himself mostly concealed unless you are close to him .
lee likes to be in the know , can be nosy and a little temperamental at times , generally likes to keep people around him in high spirits unless he doesn't like you , breaks rules and traditions , and somehow seems to be in the center of everything without being the actual center of attention .

Marlon Wayans Discusses New Comedy Special, Chris Rock, And Friendship With Tupac Shakur On 'Drink Champs'
Well, well, you're in for a real treat! On April 8, Marlon Wayans, a gifted comedian and all-around hilarious person graced us with his presence on Interval Presents' "Drink Champs" podcast with hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. Marlon shared his thoughts on the challenges of being part of the Wayans family, his friendship with Tupac Shakur, and much more. From the get-go, N.O.R.E. made it clear that Marlon Wayans is his all-time favorite comedian and guest on "Drink Champs." And who can blame him? He is a comedic genius! The host then mentioned a moment where Wayans poked fun at one of the podcast's staff members, Sunny, for his "off-white" attire. Without skipping a beat, Marlon added more laughter to the discussion by teasing Sunny for looking older than he thought. "This n***a aged! You were the same dude, I thought that was alone, n***a." I tell you, Marlon Wayans' humor is unmatched. He truly knows how to brighten up any room with his infectious energy and witty jokes. The Delicate Balance Of Comedian Comparisons Shortly after that, N.O.R.E. recalled a moment when he tweeted about Marlon's new comedy special "God Loves Me" and asserted that it surpassed Chris Rock's special. However, he deleted the tweet to avoid pitting the two comedians against each other, as is often done with rappers. "It immediately reminded me of what people do with rappers," N.O.R.E. remarked. "They put rappers against each other immediately and I didn't want to do that. I didn't want to say, 'You know what,' just because you have a special out, and he has a special out that you have to compare.'" Marlon responded by revealing that he doesn't retweet tweets that compare him to other comedians and that he has love and respect for Chris Rock. "I love Chris Rock. Rock knows I love him...he's like family," Marlon emphasized before recounting an incident where Chris mocked him mercilessly at Laugh Factory, causing him to quit standup comedy for two decades. "How badly do you think I bombed that night where I quit for 20 years?" the White Chicks actor said. Watch the "Drink Champs" episode with Marlon Wayans below, or listen to it here. The Battle For The Rib Shack: Chris Rock vs. Marlon Wayans In "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" Let's delve further into Chrisometry. During the discussion, N.O.R.E praised the iconic black sitcom "In Living Color," directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, the oldest brother in the Wayans family. Marlon Wayans chimed in and revealed an interesting anecdote about his past. In his latest comedy special, "God Loves Me," Marlon recounts how he was initially slated to play Chris Rock's role in the 1980s film "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka." However, Rock was ultimately given the part by Keenen because he was a better fit for the character. "In my new special, God Loves Me, if you would've saw it, I talk about how Chris Rock took my role," Marlon explained. "I was supposed to do that part in the rib shack, but Chris had a beat, he had a dope set...a part of his standup that really worked for that. So Keenen gave him that part and that was supposed to be my part." Reminiscing On His Authentic Friendship With Tupac Shakur As the conversation delved deeper, the actor spoke about his authentic friendship with the legendary Tupac Shakur. In his own words, "He was extremely funny, he was very smart...he was a great rapper, a gangster, a poet, an activist." Marlon's admiration for Tupac was evident, and he spoke of him with great fondness. Furthermore, the "Scary Movie" star revealed that Pac was not just a rapper but also a multifaceted individual who was a true friend to him. Whenever he crossed paths with Tupac, their bond was strengthened by the love they shared. Despite his untimely passing, Marlon treasured his last conversation with Pac. "I saw him 20 minutes before he passed, me and Omar (actor Omar Epps). We went over there to give him love," Wayans recounted. "Because we all performed as high school kids. It wasn't an act, Pac wasn't acting like Bishop (a character from the movie Juice) it was just a part of Pac." Marlon Wayans holds Tupac Shakur in high regard. He remembers him as an influential figure and a true friend. "Air" With Ben Affleck And A Possible "White Chicks" Sequel! The conversation flowed on, full of laughs and interesting facts about Ben Affleck's latest film, "Air," featuring Marlon Wayns, Chris Tucker, and many more stars. And as if that weren't enough, the possibility of a sequel to the beloved comedy, "White Chicks," was also on the table! Indeed, it was a delightful exchange filled with excitement and anticipation for what was to come. Don't forget to hit the theaters to watch the currently released movie "Air." When I first binged Taskmaster, this was what sang to me. I saw these comedians - the contestants too, but mostly Alex and Greg, exhibiting such a total and complete trust in one another that it made me outrageously envious. I wanted that - to have that witty, entirely trusting, relationship that just buzzes with creativity on the screen. It’d be impossible if they didn’t have so much faith in one another. Ugh.
I almost went and took standup or improv classes, I was so covetous!
One of the (many) things that thrills me when it comes to Taskmaster is how they bend and question reality. The tension that exist in the span between "this is objectively true" and "this is obviously pure fiction" is where this show lives and thrives.
On the one hand we have the objectively true reality of Greg Davies and Alex Horne existing as real people. They are corporeal, they pre-dates the show, they have actual relationships with people outside the show, real accomplishments and real lifes. Alex Horne is married, has three children and one dog. Greg has a small house in Spain. They are actual, existing persons.
On the other end of the spectrum we have all the things that are said, shown or implied in the show that are obvious fiction. Where we don't have to wonder if it's true, even a little bit.
Greg Davies doesn't live in the Taskmaster house. He hasn't kidnapped Alex and he isn't keeping him from his children. Alex doesn't spend 9 minutes and 34 seconds every morning waking Greg up with small kisses, and Greg doesn't make him move around like a carpet snake, his beard full of mouse droppings.
(Series 4, episode 8, outtake)
[Alex: Are you going to shout at me, like you do at home?
Greg: No, I'm just going to wach. But I want you to sing the carpet snake song. LIKE YOU ALWAYS DO!]
Most entertainment resides in one of these extremes. Even when we know for example a stand up comedian has a "persona", we are encouraged to think they mostly tell us the truth. And even if we know the actor influences the role, we are encouraged to believe they are completely separate.
Taskmaster has instead firmly made camp in the middle and spreads out from one end to another, often during the same episode. And it's joyous and thrilling and confusing in the best way.
Because the power Greg has over Alex seems to transcend pure fiction. Yes, Alex plays subservient in the show, he's the showrunner, in a way Gregs boss, and he is obviously very much volunteering and initiating things.
But just like in real life romantic Power Exchange relationships the transferring of power is real and tangible even when it is based on consent.
Sometimes Greg does something to Alex, or demand something from him, that isn't expected.
Alex as a carpet snake, improvising a little tune about how everyone knows he's a carpet snake, is a delight. But to me, what's even more intriguing is the three seconds of negotiation that happens just before it.
[Greg: You are aware that when we are at home, Alex is only allowed to move around like a snake? [laughter}
Greg: I mean.. I mean, that beard is full of mouse droppings.
Noel: A carpet snake?
Greg: Yeah
Joe: Can we… can we see that demonstrated now?
Greg: No, why not?]
This isn't Alex' idea. He visibly do not want to be a carpet snake. He looks at Greg, gets a curt nod in respons, and lo and behold, there is an adorable singing carpet snake on the studio floor.
It is not true that Alex lives with Greg and is only allowed to move like a snake. It is, however, visibly apparent that Greg can make Alex flop around on the floor on a whim.
There is another good example of this type of negotiation on camera, when Greg demands to see Alex underwear, mocking him for having long johns in summer. This is the only time so far I've seen Alex actually saying no. He dosn't want to show Greg his underwear.
Is this pre-planned? I don't know. This is the place right in the middle between absolutely real and obviously fiction. Maybe it's Alex idea al along, maybe the long johns is a prop, like many others. But it doesn't look like it. It looks like Alex is surprised, and a little baffled, and rather a lot embarrassed.
[Greg: Take your trousers down.
Alex: No… Do they all have to see?
Greg: Ooops! There goes my heart rate!]
From what I see, the power exchange present in the show, the humiliation and sadism directed at Alex, is complete fiction. And completely real. At the same time. Just like in any other consenting power exchange relationships.
And I absolutely adore having this kind of dynamic for once shown and visible and appreciated in public. It is rare and funny and precious.
(I'm not saying anything about sex here. I have no way of telling if any of the sexual innuendos between Alex and Greg are anything else than pure fiction. But there are many ways to play and pretend, and many reasons to do so - one important one being that it's simply fun.)
