When Charles Dickens's fictional character of Ebenezer Scrooge complained that Christmas was a humbug, he was expressing his belief that people's expressing joy and generosity during the Christmas season was all insincere and fake. And that was the tragedy of existence.

There's also a British candy called a "Humbug" (going back to the playful meaning), traditionally flavored with hoarhound, with brown stripes:

Nah not at all, I think a lot of ftwd fans feel/ felt that way. Literary Fairy Tales in the 19th Century

This is a good short essay on 19th century fairy tales. It is not about just fairies but some of the tales have fairy elements such as the Water Babies by Charles Kingsley.

In the early to mid-19th century, much children's literature consisted of heavily didactic informational essays and accounts of exemplary children being rewarded or punished. However, writers such as William Wordsworth, Charles Dickens, and eventually Lewis Carroll championed writing in a more imaginative vein and gradually, a rich body of literary fairy tales developed, drawing on the content and formulas of folk tales, but written by a single author at greater length and with more detail than their folk inspirations.

bestie no oh my god. about two weeks before your period is when you're ovulating and likely to be at your most fertile. the whole reason your period happens is because you fail to get pregnant and your body has to flush out the unused egg and that cushy blood nest that the uterus built up to grow a baby in. the period happens because your body was trying like the dickens to get pregnant during the fertile window and was thwarted.

it's also really important to note that while there is certainly a window in which you're more likely to get pregnant, there's no stage of the menstrual cycle during which people are completely infertile (unless, obviously, they're infertile for other reasons). while rare, pregnancy can even occur while you're on your period.

bro I hate how everyone portrays estella in aus! it is ALWAYS “i hate everyone #slaying #livelaughkillmen”. yes estella hates men, yes your allowed to portray the character however you want, but people ALLLWAAYYS FORGET THAT MS HAVISHAM WAS A LITERAL BIITTTCCCHHH!!!!! Ms Havisham literally forced estella into hating men and likely just taught estella since the day she was an infant how to break hearts and likely 0 compassion for others… fandom takes that and goes “ok but what if even after Ms Havisham dies she doesn’t heal at all despite having Pip and Herbert to guide her and we just keep her a bad bitch” like what im not trying to be mean to anyone who does this with estella bcs well she’s a fictional character.. im not gonna waste my time yelling this through the streets, but I AM saying that u dint have to make her a heartless monster all the time in every au 🙏 also this is excluding aus that exclusively have Herbert and pip not be there OR Ms Havisham is still alive, OR smth else that would make sense.
