Millennia have passed since the dragons of Marrowoods defeated the monstrous Ashenmaw, the victory and the safety of the world coming at a high price. Millennia of dragon whelps being fed to the Devourer to keep him dormant, thousands of lives lost to protect thousands more.

But now you, a whelp meant to met this gruesome fate, have hatched just in the nick of time, getting to grow up in the mysterious Marrowoods and the ancient homes of Sildrys' dragonflights.

Pure chance gives you the means to be the one to find out the secret behind Ashenmaw, the truth behind the Black and Blue Patriarchs' betrayal, and to put an end to Ashenmaw's horror.

You, the player:

You play as a freshly hatched dragon whelp, navigating the odds and ends of the politics and mysteries of the five flights, intermingle with the younger races, and jump headfirst into uncovering the secrets of Ashenmaw and the Marrowoods.

You can, technically, play as male, female or non-binary. Dragons pick their gender by themselves, and if you already have a natural talent for shapeshifting, details such as that are more of an afterthought, really.

OC Confession Tag!

Rules: Post a scene where one of your character's does a confession to another character from your wip. It doesn't have to be a love confession. Maybe it's a lie. Maybe it's a crime. Maybe it's betrayal. Go buckwild, go crazy!

Let's go with two scenes involving different siblings from my WIPs in different contexts!

Lie Confession

Nahrieh began, voice even and smooth like honey, strangely calm, "Mayhaps...' The Sorcerer paused, fiddling with his necklace, the only sign of his nervousness, "I wasn't being fully truthful when I said your brother had nothing to do with the Rift."

Declan stammered, halting in place, "What?"

The immortal tilted his head, "Did it not seem strange to you? The argument. Your curse. Did it not strike you as strange how you were healed from it days after the Rift began?" He asked, somewhere between a genuine inquiry and a rhetorical question, "How your brother seemed distant - perhaps out of guilt - shortly before his disappearance?"

Declan's heart skips a bit, and he clutches his own arms, nervously trying to keep himself grounded. He gave an awkward scoff, "Keir would never - he... he's a knight!" He says, though his voice sounds unconvincing - it doesn't sound like he is convincing himself with it, as he continued, trying to seem certain, "He would never betray the realm."

Nahrieh chuckled, a deep, quick sound, like the rolling of water and sand on the ocean's floor, "Child, do not underestimate the lengths people will go to for love." He looks away, "I slaughtered an entire civilization to avenge my innocent spawn, fully aware I would be deemed a monster."

After a pause, he turns back to Declan, an unusual sorrow in his eyes "Do you think your brother would not make a deal with an eldritch force to spare your life?"

It was not a question - for they both knew the answer to it. Declan opened his mouth to rebuke, but no words came out. Instead, he growled softly, shaking his head.

The Sorcerer gave him a sad smile, "You know the truth Declan, - you just don't want to admit it. Yet." His voice grew pensive, and he twisted the string of his necklace between his fingers, swinging his legs softly where he was sitting on the edge of the smooth rock, "But now, another question remains - when you find Keir again, will you still be able to look upon his now bloodthirsty, hate-filled eyes like you used to? Knowing his corruption was the price for your life?"

Betrayal Confession

"Jack." Deimos paused, fingers gripping the metal threshold shakily, waiting for the other to respond, "There's... something I need to talk to you about."

Within the cockpit, Jack was organizing his things, namely placing some wrapped up sweet protein bars and a chocolate milk bottle inside a small locker beside his pilot chair. He looked over his shoulder, "Yeah!" Jack smiled, "Of course, what is it?"

Deimos cringed, crossing his arms over his chest and taking a shaky, deep breath, trying to keep himself grounded for what he was about to confess, "So." He began, searching his mind for the words, "This... t-this isn't easy for me to say, but I need to." The alien stammered, resisting the urge to change the subject before he could even start.

When he continued, he tried to keep his voice even, a pragmatic tone that did nothing to hide the panic and guilt underneath, "Your capture by the Junction, the reason why it was so sudden, so easy for them, it... it was because of me. I did it."

Jack frowned, slowly straightening his posture as his face fell into an expression of pure anxiety - it was clear he had already understood what he'd meant but didn't want to believe it, "... What do you mean?"

"I mean I set you guys up!" Deimos blurted out, closing his eyes for a moment. There was a long, painful silence spread out in the space between them, the weight of those words weighing them down as if the ship's artificial gravity had been turned to the maximum.

The young alien noticed as Jack faltered, anxiously grasping the leather seat of the pilot chair beside him, hands beginning to shake. He noticed how his brother looked away from him, face pale, eyes filled with a painful mix of betrayal and rising panic.

Deimos raced to try and soften the blow of those words, hating himself more and more with every passing second, knowing the damage was already done, " Jack, I'm sorry. I'm so fucking sorry. I made a mistake. And... I took the easy route to f-fix it." He grimaced, nails digging into his own arms, painfully. Deep down, Deimos figured he deserved to feel the pain, seeing the sadness in Jack's eyes, knowing he'd inflicted it.

He sighed, finishing his explanation, "The Junction offered me a deal. I took it. I set you guys up and for that - I'm sorry."

Jack seemed about to pass out, and when he looked back at Deimos, the young alien hated the hurt bubbling behind his brother's kind eyes, as the other spoke, "O-oh. Oh, okay. Um. Why?"

His voice was nothing like the confident, upbeat tone he usually had. It was quiet, and frazzled, flickering like a dying lamp - and right now, Deimos would do anything to take back the deal he'd made.

The alien spoke again, searching for the words to fix this, when there were none, eventually, he settled for simply being honest, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done what I did - I know. I-... I know I was probably weak but - I was... so scared. I wouldn't be able to handle what Eldora would do to me if she captured me again. I can't even stand the thought of going through... all that, again."

Jack still wasn't looking at him, staring vacantly at the floor. With his augmented hearing, Deimos was able to catch the phrase his brother had muttered under his breath, apparently despite himself, "...but what the Director is doing to me, that's okay to you, huh?"

Deimos felt his world crash, wanting to curl up and die at how defeated Jack sounded. He hated how much he knew his brother believed the words he'd just muttered - he hated how much Jack didn't even seem surprised.

He stepped forward, "No! No, it's not!" Deimos almost yelled, desperate to make Jack understand this was all just a mistake. That he never should've left them in the first place, all those years ago. His voice softened, and he reached forward slightly, "You're my brother, I would never want you to get hurt. I-I didn't even think it would get to that -!"

Jack flinched away, stepping back, almost curled in on himself, as he cut the other off before he could finish his sentence, "Well, you should have!" He snapped, and Deimos had never heard such a bitter rage in Jack's voice. It took him off guard, freezing him in place.

The young pilot continued, "Everyone... everyone told me I shouldn't trust you again. When you came back. But I did. I really... really did." As Jack looked back at Deimos, the blue-haired alien wished he hadn't. Something had changed, behind his kind eyes, like a broken mirror, never to be the same again - and Deimos knew he was the only one to blame for it. Jack growled, tilting his head slightly, "Only to find out that all this shitstorm that's happened, all this pain we went through - what he did to me - was because..."

His voice broke, " - Because of you?"

synopsis:

Raaf killed the King in his own court, slaughtering him like a sacrificial lamb at a ritual. The blood and gore of the King stains his hands as the Prince finds him, binding them together in fate. But now the King torments Raaf, his ghost follows him everywhere, whispering to him about magic and blood and bones and the mind itself.

Haunted, unsure, and lost, Raaf teams up with the Prince and the Priestess, both of whom do not share the same motivations, but who provide safety and a kind of protection in the labyrinth of Terdam. Writeblr (Re)Introduction!

Hello! My name is Rita, and I'm a late 20's writer that's been around the community for over 10 years now across a couple different blogs. I've been writing a lot more again and wanted a place to keep a sort of codex of my work as I work through actually trying to write a novel or two... or ten. Wherever the winds take me really.

I write across a variety of genres when it comes to my short stories. I write fan fiction on occasion, but mostly work on my original fiction. My favorite short story genres are magical realism and low fantasy, but I occasionally dabble in horror.

For my full-length fiction, I write fantasy with some loose steampunk elements. Time period comparison would be closer to the late 1700s to early 1800s. Almost all of my work is queer fiction.

The Lies They Tell

A dark queer fantasy novel. Think of this as a retold mashup of the fall of Rome and the betrayal of Caesar. Our main character is like Brutus is to Caesar, and follows her journey out of the empire to freedom from the incredibly oppressive and abusive life she lives under the emperor as his advisor and unofficial heir. The Price of Blood

Another queer dark fantasy story, but I'm taking a break in between drafts to focus on a different project. This one features vampires, a cult, and two lifelong friends and former lovers who reconnect after 15 years apart. There's a lot of vampire/undead angst, and a lot of parental crisis points as the MC grapples with the horrifying prospect of a binding demonic contract that requires her life to save everyone and everything she loves. Noncompliance could result in the death of her son, and many others. Does she sacrifice the world to live and be with the woman she loves, or make the ultimate sacrifice and break her heart a second time?

This comes at an odd time for me because I feel very disconnected from my fic and deeply unimpressed by it. Every time I open the current chapter I'm working on, I think, "What an absolute slog." So maybe focusing on what I love (or remember loving) will rekindle the missing spark! Plus it's been umpteen weeks since I last posted here, and it would be good to show signs of life. (I'm not giving up on writing or my OTP. RL just kind of saps the will to live sometimes. Experience tells me this too shall pass.)

I actually don't have that many fics, which is embarrassing, considering how long I've been in fandom. The same handful just keep cropping up. So I'm going to be really aggravating and mostly talk about WIPs:

The Afterlight - the Snape/Harry WIP I'm currently working/ intermittently fixated on. It's got a serial killer subplot that still hasn't kicked in after 52K words and a Denial of Feelings dysfunctional romance heavily influenced by the fact that both men died in canon and forever after have to live with that knowledge. (Here we have the author's perpetual Denial of (Snape-ish) Death on full display 😉). The fic features disillusioned!Harry, an offshoot of the angry!Harry who often turns up in my work, alongside a Snape whose feelings, whatever else they may be, are typically obsessive to the point of self-sacrifice. They fight a lot and fuck a lot and at one point Snape takes a curse for Harry. Hurt/comfort as courtship! Probably my schmaltziest ending ever, and quite likely a narrative mess, but it's got its hooks into me so I really want it to turn out halfway decent.

Year of the Thestral - the only non-WIP here, a Severus/Minerva fic I had on the back-burner for years and finally finished. It uses a dubcon relationship as a lens to examine the damage done to - and price exacted upon - all and sundry during Snape's year as headmaster. The conceit involves Minerva at the end of her life reminiscing to a biographer, finally facing the memories and meaning of Snape's actions, the layers of betrayal and inevitability of sacrifice, and the furious despair that lay behind Severus' treatment of her. It offers the possibility of forgiveness and even retrospective love, and is woven throughout with femslash feelings. For me, it's a meditation on the punishing aspects of Snape's agreement to play the monster, as well as a character study of McGonagall, undertaken as a tribute.

The Blood of Stars - possibly my favorite of my current WIPs, put on hiatus in 2014. It starts with Snape basically being kicked out of the afterlife by Dumbledore and Lily and discovering, as he searches Hogwarts' post-battle wreckage, that he can't speak to Harry. Literally, no words. Partly in retaliation, he commits an act of heartache and cruelty that affects Harry's marriage. But he also reappears at desperate moments in Harry's life to provide help. There's much to-do over an underground prison, a mutual fascination despite their problems communicating (although one might suggest that Snape's inability to tell Harry what he thinks actually improves the situation), two dramatic death scenes, and more afterlife shenanigans. It also has what may be my favorite ending for any fic I've written thus far, and I'm determined to finish it if only for those scenes alone. Oh, and it's my version of horribly romantic. Also, hubris: the entire middle section is written in first-person Harry POV, which I know will take out a chunk of my potential audience, but I wanted to try something I'd never done before. Anyway, it's next in line once I finish The Afterlight (yes, I know, how many years will that take? But hope springs eternal).

Impossible Without It - another Snarry WIP put on hiatus in 2014! Ah, I was so full of ideas then and struggling not to let the bastards get me down. Well, I haven't given up on this one, either. It's another angry!Harry fic (I do write optimistic!Harry, but really, none of my Harrys are well-adjusted). In fact, it's a memory-holed Harry who can't recall killing Voldemort and an amnesiac Snape who works in a Muggle gay bar. The story is told partly through their sexual addiction to each other, fueled by secrets and lies and out-of-control hunger, desire for vengeance and of course the question of what really happened the day Voldemort died and Harry lost that moment in time while Snape forgot crucial parts of who he is (like the fact he's a wizard). They don't treat each other well, but they become so bound up in their obsession they can't let go. Eventually Harry discovers a way to restore Snape's memories, and Snape makes him regret it. Believe it or not, this one has a happy ending! Well, depending on whether you think a rather fucked-up relationship can be described as 'happy.'

The Threefold Death, or: The Lost World (long version), Snarry, WIP. I was originally going to choose When the Rose & the Fire Are One, but I've singled it out often enough that at this point I'm not sure what's left to say. I had Threefold Death hidden in a collection for a while because I couldn't stand to look at it, but that didn't help so I've removed it from its cage. I'm still haunted by a lot of the scenes, and I love fooling around with fairy tale imagery. I also like playing with ambiguity: how much of Snape's love for Harry is his own and how much is the Forest using Snape to draw Harry into its clutches. Ditto Albus Severus, the third in their circle/cycle of debts and devotion, who can't stop setting off tragic consequences despite the best of intentions. (Well, maybe not the best.) The POV in this one starts with Harry and switches to Al, partly because I'm a sucker for outsider POV and partly because I want to examine Al as a mixture of Harry and Snape, neither as loving as his father nor as ruthless as his mentor and therefore the weakest link in this Game of Three. But it is ultimately his love for them both that closes the circle, and he's the one who ends up losing the most. (Sorry, Al! Even if it's partly your own fault.) And this is another ending with lines and images I'm rather proud of. Also a ton of bittersweetness. Ever since I hauled it out of storage, I've been having all sorts of daydreams about character moments, so this fic is definitely simmering again.

Stitch is a bad guy ish, possessive sex, degrading, PWP, canon typical violence (this is COD) but not the main theme of this, they're in love but it's complicated because she's a double agent, not really a happy ending but also not a sad ending.

The team sits in silence for all of five seconds, a resigned look on Simon's face as he somewhat pointedly stares at the remaining menus. The silence is heavy for a moment, "Kyle has th' bes-" "We no' gonna talk abou' what jus' happened?" "Prefer not to but s'pose there's no avoiding it now." "C'mon now," Gaz chimes in as he trades menus with Price, "you know none of us would've guessed anything about all this," he gestured to the cottage in question, the downright cozy space. Ghost huffed a sigh, turning to see if the only other potential voice of reason would chime in. The flicker of his silent hope is swiftly snuffed, the captain busy skimming the menu before him. He nodded, making a politely pleased noise at what he saw, handing it back to Kyle to hand to Soap, "thought you had a flat in Manchester." The sigh he tried to hold in turned into a long suffering one, the utterly unsurprising betrayal still managing to disappoint him. Purposely drawing out the sigh as he weighed his options- thinking how much he could get away with before you came back and they could grill you. You might be slippery when it comes to keeping answers from civilians, but frankly nothing a civilian could throw at you would hold a candle against three highly trained busybodies.

Tripartite "villains in love" au (i know the name is stupid, bite me) - all take place in the same universe. stassney lives and ends up Stockholm syndromed with Felix who he rescues from dying at the bottom of the tower, locus realizes Doyle's romantic notions of soldiers are actually what's correct and either they fuck off together and Doyle fakes his death or locus surrenders idk haven't decided, and sharkface and price say fuck all this shit and fuck off into the aether for a happy ever after. there's some bits posted as the Unfettered [WIP snips] on ao3

Afterburner - Hargrove recovers Sigma and Sigma is given to sharkface to assist in killing freelancers (underdeveloped, that's literally all i have written lmao)

Double Triple - the triplets and the trio trying to make the best of their ice planet abandonment with hijinks and nonsense and dwindling supplies

Foxtrot Echoes - the honeypot au: version 1 contains no actual York ai but it's completely contrived and hinges on sharkface being a good enough actor to fool Carolina, wash and epsilon in order to get closer enough to kill them. bro fails step 1 tho and falls for Carolina and has to come clean thereby destroying the whole reason he'd confessed. angst!!! version 2 contains actual York ai but he's an early attempt by freelancer to acquire another ai so he's not technically a smart ai but he's still an ai and his and shark's psyches bleed into each other a bit

Heartstrings au - I only have Gravity posted bc tbr the rest of this is completely self indulgent Locington schmoop but I'm always a sucker for a good betrayal plotline

Shark mechanic au! the feds n news scoop up a fishy enemy and as they need all hands on deck he helps them as a mechanic and bonds a bit with the ducklings

modern band au - shark in a band with wash, south, pills and sleeves, all sorts of drama. not very well developed but lots of Sharklina angst

Xmas sharcus bit - this might get written eventually. modern au where the mercs gang gathers at Locus' for the holiday and during an argument with Felix, shark breaks an ornament that's really important to his bf locus… then works really hard to fix it but it's like glass u know so it's a huge pita. idk. Christmas schmoop, i was miserable on antivirals when i did this lol

the Sharklix "get worse together" enemies who fuck to kinda friends who fuck and also get revenge together au. unlikely to be posted, it's a little too self indulgent lol

games of the heart - au where Sharkface realizes he can't beat the freelancers physically so he suckers wash into falling for him so he can turn around and shred his heart to pieces. underdeveloped, self indulgent

get your kicks - the long haul trucker/greasy spoon waiter lolix au featuring unhappily married locus and licherally dying of boredom working for tips along the desert freeway Felix (thanks Ross for the line i took and ran with 💖) also the road is route 66 and modeled after the old route 66 on earth for novelty reasons

Lazarus - locus does his good guy shtick and returns often to help a sangheili colony and winds up with an alien baby. someone activates a temple of regeneration on chorus, and now alive Felix goes hunting for revenge. parts of this posted in scribbles n bits but it's not a full thing in the first place

the Locnut farm family rivalry au with donut and his two moms next door to locus and his two dads who are in a Midwestern rivalry but the two of them are getting along much too well

MaceFace! Mason and Sharkface run into each other at physical therapy and get chummy and eventually set out together for revenge since Lolix and the freelancers are both on Chorus

The Outriders AU - an enormous crossover undertaking with characters in the Outriders game universe… this will probably never be done but i got great plans for it. the mercs and a few others get freaky superpowers, there's an epic quest for info to secure survival, and Dr Church is trying to reverse engineer the superpowers unethically and causing problems so what else is new

MetaNut meet-cute/horny au where donut doesn't get shot bc Meta gets attached and also yanks donut over the cliff with him during the fight but they both survive and work their way back up to civilization while everyone else assumes them dead. plural meta au ✌️ also they have a little cottage with a garden and bees

the "no-PFL" SharkPrice AU where Price is hired at the same Charon building untoasted Sharkface is working security for and also Price and Dr Church are bitter exes and Church thinks Price is cradle-robbing when he sees them together

red Team Shark AU where Boose and Shark are friends and bond over losing your friends

Tear The Throat - also known as the SharKey AU (the one that comic is about) where Sharkface gets the key because he grabs it and tosses it to Felix not knowing it bonds to one person. This is a Chorus-loses AU bc they can just turn the key on the purge and call it a day and cash in.

WashFace au where Wash and Terrence were together before whatever shit happened that got Wash almost court martialed and sent to PFL, and Wash doesn't shoot when Sharkface makes his little "as long as I'm alive" speech bc he recognizes him when he takes off his helmet. and shark is like wtf you're supposed to be DEAD and gdi he can't kill wash now this is fucking unfair

extremely underdeveloped Dragon Age au with Sharkface as an apostate fire mage but like that's literally all there is to it lmao … shape shifter with dragon form could be fucking cool tho

His arms are crossed, he is standing in front of the window, it looks like the painting of a tranquility he has forgotten. Dawn is rising on their last day in here, a ryokan on the road to the Yatsugatake mountains, the next stop is one hour drive away. From his back can only be seen his izezumi, the ink that tells the blood tainted tale of the Yamazakis. His back is covered with the story of his clan, the heritage of his ancestors, one that is continuing with him. The ink crawls then, to his upper limbs, down his collarbones, his chest and abs and arms. "Pants? Damn. Missing the days balls out was the way to go." He speaks, corner lip twisted into a smile even though, he is pensive, he is changed. Honor on his exposed back. Being here isn't Honor. It's Betrayal. Today is their last day in the prefecture, they have been away for a long time, his hair has reached his shoulderblades already, he ties it up now. He glances above his shoulder to catch a sight of hers now that she is awake. His mind switches, visions that seems to belong to another reality, even at night, he sees her skin covered in blood, the blood of his brother - then comes the memory of his lips catching hers with a demonic passion to savour the taste of it, it calls for the reminiscince of the violence of this fucked up desire for her he couldn't control since that day, his hands grabbing thighs, this crave to either be inside of her, kill her or eat her alive to the thought of what she did. There is this hallucinative shift that comes too, of the vision of her body half liveless hanged in his slaughterhouse if his clan catches her, the chains restraining her limbs as her head remains upside down, her hair wipping the air with sweat crawling down her forehead and her eyes full of veins filled with blood. The entire Yamazaki clan put a price on her head - meanwhile her Kintora-kai put a price on his. He foresees a blood bath of the two clans destroying each other, for only them to be left at the top of a mountain of corpses after the war. This alternate reality they created of tranquility and silence, it will end, soon. "What's the hurry Cherry Pie?" The furthur they go, the more time passes, the faster their final day in the countryside comes. "You wanna haunt me down so bad? Not that I won't savour every piece of it when you do." The chase, that's the game they will have to play once they are back to the city. He grabs her by the hand, pulls her, he holds her by the waist then, his hands locking around her frame, her chest against his. "We shouldn't head to Shiga. Our Osaka branch is there for a few days, we have to go north. If we cross paths with them, I will have to kill you." He will. The line is said on a serious tone - though, he wouldn't be capable of doing so. Would he have to kill his own members then, to keep her alive and by his side? The snake is not only biting its own tail at this point, it's digesting its own core. His head is lowered, his forehead reaching for hers, his eyes in hers.. "Or you... to Kill me."
