Phantasmagoria: Part 2
Notes: this is the second chapter I’ve written of my take on Enmu’s backstory so far. Was a bit difficult to write because there’s a lot going on here. I’m still not sure what to title it. Trigger warning for gore, death, and abusive behavior.
Part 2
It was ice cold in the little storage room at the back Enmu had followed his brother to. It was a good thing, too. Otherwise the stench would have been far worse.
On the table lay a cadaver covered by a bloodstained sheet. Enmu pulled his shirt collar over the lower half of his face.
“He was found this morning washed up on the riverbank,” Ayumu replied, pulling back the sheet. Enmu stood transfixed in morbid fascination as empty sockets stared back at him. Enmu drew closer and circled the body, “How strange, he’s all hollowed out.”
Gutted like a fish was more of an appropriate way to describe the grisly sight that awaited his eyes. The corpse’s chest and belly were torn open, but all the internal organs were gone. Something appeared to have ripped chunks out of the upper legs and arms.
“This is Hideki Sato,” Enmu said, “He’s been here every week since I started.”
“I remember him,” his brother said, “he’s that fisherman with bad lungs isn’t he? Isn’t his illness terminal?”
Enmu’s hands went cold. Was he about to be found out? “Yes. He came to me on a weekly basis for pain management,” he replied, “but last week was here for a sprained ankle.”
That was technically true, wasn’t it? Though the little white pills he prescribed were nothing but placebos, when used in conjunction with his hypnosis most patients experienced a great reduction in pain.
Of course, Sato had no idea that was all Enmu knew how to do. The man thought he was getting better. If that was what he had wanted to believe, Enmu certainly wouldn’t stop him. It got him extra money, so why not? He was happier believing Enmu’s lies. Wasn’t it better this way?
Still, Enmu didn’t expect him to pass away so soon. He had a few more years left of being his best patient. All he knew was that there was no way his illness resulted in his untimely demise.
“A few other fishermen found his body,” Ayumu said, “We don’t want mass hysteria so things are to be kept quiet. The working theory is that he fell into the river, drowned, and his body was discovered by scavenging animals when it washed up on the shore.”
Scavenging animals? The largest things in those woods were foxes. Bears were thought to roam the mountains but they had never been sighted anywhere near town.
Their town was along the edge of a large river that was said to flow to the sea. The closer one got to the river the more the buildings and houses have way to dense woods.
The Tamio family’s house was at the edge of the wood. Enmu had faint memories of Ayumu warning him not to wander off in them when he was a child. He found himself lost in them one hot midsummer evening, unsure of how he got there.
His brother had been furious that night. “I heard someone scream, it wasn’t a dream,” Enmu had insisted later that night over dinner. “I don’t give a shit what you think you heard,” Ayumu had snapped, swatting away his small hand as he reached for the doorknob, “If I catch you sneaking off again I’ll make you regret it.”
The Tamio family had a history with those woods. Enmu had been too young at the time to understand. When he was older, though, he found that the woods had been the last place their father had been seen before vanishing off the face of the earth.
The woods were said to be a dangerous place to go by the elders of the town. For decades now people went missing in them. Nothing left behind, not even bones. Even the fishermen who needed to traverse through them to reach the river were careful to leave before sundown.
“I’ll certainly take a look,” Enmu said with a frown. He snapped on a pair of rubbed gloves. His stomach clenched as his eyes fixed on what remained of Hideki Sato. He had an uneasy feeling this wasn’t the work of scavenging foxes.

How they embarrass themselves in front of MC (Headcanons)
Characters: Jin Namba, Hideki Ishigami, Hyogo Kaga, Shusuke Soma, Takaomi Tsugaru, Seiji Goto, Ayumu Shinonome, Toru Kurosawa, Yukihisa Maki, Shunichiro Tachibana, Jun Araki, Toshiaki Kijima, Toma Kiriya, Natsume Asaoka, Ukyo Senkawa, Daimon Togo, Kunihiro Kasai, Kuranosuke Kiba, Eiji Takao, Shu Hasunuma, Toshiki Kasumi, Munechika Takado, Taro Akuchi, Suzumu Mado
Jin Namba
Jin spent too much time on social media to be trendy. He saw that trend of getting photos of how the stars looked in a region during a specific day. So, Jin decided to get MC one of these with their anniversary. When the delivery arrived, MC was home, and Jin gave it immediately. It turned out the anniversary was wrong. And it was he who sent the wrong date.
Hideki Ishigami
During a warm weekend, Ishigami and MC decided to go to the beach. So, both of them got into the water. However, a big wave and one jellyfish made Ishigami lose his balance. The man tried his best to swim. After half a minute that felt like years, MC finally told her boyfriend that the water was shallow enough for him to stay on his four and not die.
Hyogo Kaga
Hyogo let his daughter paint his nails. Of course, Baby Kaga didn't care where his nails end. He forgot that the nail polish remover finished the last time she did this. So, Captain Kaga had to go to an important meeting early in the morning with colorful and messy painted fingers.
Shusuke Soma
Jokingly, Soma handcuffed himself and MC together against the bed. After he locked them, he remembered he had left the keys in his blazer in another room. MC offered to move the bed with them because it was made out of expensive wood. So they did it until they were met by the door. And Shusuke understood why the bed had to be put in his room disassembled when he saw there was no way to get out with it. Soma was nearly crying while trying to break the piece they were handcuffed to. The bed remained like that for years.
Takaomi Tsugaru
Tsugaru loves MC, and he loves MC strong enough to give up on his habit of eating strange food combinations. For MC's birthday, he wanted to get her a cake from a fancy expensive confectioner. It turned out MC had an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients, and they had to go to the ER.
Seiji Goto
Goto once jokingly asked MC if Japan turned into The Netherlands. MC asked why because it wasn't like Goto to make such jokes. So, Goto sent her a photo of a field with tulips. It was Ishigami who told him that it was a field of poppies.
Ayumu Shinonome
The Hair Guru a.k.a. Ayumu Shinonome convinced MC that he could cut her hair. She accepted to let him cut her bangs, and he asked her about the length. They agreed on it, and instead of cutting the hair under his fingers, he cut it from above, making it too short. MC cried for two days and didn't talk to him at all. He had to apologize more than ten times for her to stop being mad at him.
Toru Kurosawa
After Toru and MC started to live together, Shoma became a usual guest in their house. It was so natural for him to visit his sister that Toru even gave him a pair of keys. However, Shoma was polite enough to announce his presence beforehand. Once, Toru completely forgot about this and decided to shower before MC returned home. When he heard the keys, he let go of his towel and sat on the couch completely naked and with a potted plant instead of a rose near him. Half a minute later, MC came back and saw her brother silently staring at her shocked naked boyfriend.
Yukihisa Maki
Yuki told MC to take care of herself and not slip on the icy road. He was like: "I hope your soles are adherent enough," "Look where you're walking," "Don't run," and "Take your hands out of your pocket." So, Yukihisa took MC's hand to help her steady her. The next second, he fell on his butt on took MC after him.
Shunichiro Tachibana
After Shunichiro publicly confirmed his relationship with MC, journalists took photos of the two. Once, he overworked himself so hard that after a few weeks, he saw a photo of him and a woman together and tried to remember and understand what had happened and who was the woman. After days of torture, he finally came clean to MC, acknowledging that he had no idea what had happened, but he was sure that nothing was between him and someone else. MC told him it was her in the photo, wearing a new coat.
Jun Araki
Mr. Araki met one of his clients, who grew up with him in the orphanage, in the market while buying pads for MC. When his childhood friend asked him about his relationship status and was ready to congratulate him, Jun panicked and said they were for his sister. Both met and stood awkwardly silent, face to face for ten minutes.
Toshiaki Kijima
MC asked her husband about a man with the same surname as him who sent her a friend request. Toshiaki was trying to fall asleep, so he said that he had no idea, probably just a coincidence. Later, MC found out it was one of his cousins they met the next time they went to Shimane.
Toma Kiriya
Toma was working while MC was in the bathroom. And it's a universal knowledge that people reach their peak of sexiness when they get out of the shower. So, how could he resist his eye-catching fiancee? Toma put away his laptop and went to her, starting a make-out session that continued with him taking MC to the sofa. The man planted his butt on the laptop, and it was only half of the problem. Sharp pieces of plastic and glass got stuck, and he had to go to the hospital to get stitches.
Natsume Asaoka
Natsume got drunk at a party and told everyone he wanted to sing a song for his wife. He got every single note wrong. Videos of him still running errands in between Addison & Rhodes employees.
Ukyo Senkawa
MC overworked herself for weeks. Ukyo did it too, but he tried his best to take care of his wife. So, he wanted to make her happy and help her relax. And what could be better than a tasty dinner with tea? MC tasted it and said nothing, then Ukyo did the same and understood that he had put salt instead of sugar in the tea.
Daimon Togo
When Daimon and MC had their first projects after getting together, Kunihiro filled a drawer in his desk with condoms. Unfortunately, it wasn't MC who needed anything from Togo first thing in the morning. When he saw the condoms, Daimon wanted to close the shelf at fast as possible but accidentally forced it, and all its contents fell on the floor when MC approached him.
Kunihiro Kasai
Someone asked Mr. Kasai during a meeting about something that he failed to hear three times. He finally confirmed the question and moved on. It turned out they asked if MC took sick days due to being pregnant. He had a lot of explanations to do after HR called them to congratulate him and his colleagues prepared a baby shower.
Kuranosuke Kiba
Kuranosuke told MC that he would protect her during storms, that there was no way something like this would scare him, and he was as cool as a cucumber. It thundered, and he jerked so hard that he dropped the tray with their entire dinner, destroying everything edible.
Eiji Takao
No wonder he is childhood friends with Kunihiro because both get in trouble due to mishearing things. In his case, he didn't say "yes", he said "no". What happened, and what were the questions? He and MC were at an event where he met one of his first clients. The enthusiastic client asked Takao if MC, who sat as close to him as possible, was the wife he had heard about. Due to the noise in the background, Eiji didn't hear the question and just said "no". Two pairs of bewildered eyes looked at him.
Shu Hasunuma
Before taking some days off, Shu told everyone at work not to contact him because he would have things to do and wouldn't be available most of the time. The day he returned, he accidentally opened his steps counting app during work. Kuranosuke, who couldn't reach him during his mini-vacation, saw that during his entire mini-vacation, Shu made around 20 and 35 steps a day. Shu had to give his wife a few explanations after Kuranosuke started to call her every time he needed Mr. Hasunuma on his days off.
Toshiki Kasumi
We all know how smart is Dr. Kasumi and that he has visited many countries. No wonder this man is multilingual. So, Kasumi took MC on holiday to one of the countries he had visited more than ten years ago. He convinced MC that they wouldn't need translators. During their first dinner, Kasumi understood that he had forgotten a big part of the language spoken in the country but was too stubborn to change to English. When they finally got their command, both Kasumi and MC looked at the plates in front of them, understanding that none of them were what they wanted.
Munechika Takado
While walking, Takado told MC to be more aware of her surroundings because she nearly tripped on the stairs in front of him earlier that day. They decided to go to buy some things. And when he finished his sentence about how important was for doctors to be able to take care of their health, he planted himself on the glass wall of the market and broke his nose.
Taro Akuchi
Taro asked MC to wear something of a specific color for their date. He bought flowers to impress her. Being the socially awkward person he was, Taro gave them to MC the second he saw him. He understood that he mistook the girl when she thanked him and he didn't recognize the voice. The man wanted to take the flowers back, but MC, who was a few meters away, got in time to stop him.
Suzumu Mado
Suzumu invited MC on a date and went in there with the idea of paying for both of them. So, he let her get what she wanted even if it was expensive. When they finally had to pay, he understood that he had forgotten his wallet at home. He tried to convince MC that it wasn't his intention. MC didn't believe him.

S.U.I.T.S - Terran's Hidden War
TERRAN 4 - KINDRED FIRE
Once again, I never anticipated this turn of events, but now Miyoung is trailing me. Having successfully completed her mission of tracking the four of clubs and having no other plans, she chose to accompany me back to Japan. I didn't object; I certainly didn't want to risk my life by opposing her. Furthermore, there are rumors circulating on the school's website about me once more - that I now have another bodyguard and that a syndicate mob is plotting against me. Each time I return home, these rumors grow increasingly exaggerated and bizarre.
Similar to Viktor, Miyoung was also a foreign exchange student from South Korea who enrolled in our school even though there were only a few months left in the school year. However, unlike Viktor, Miyoung was placed in the same classroom as me and the others. I couldn't help but notice that whenever I saw Miyoung at school or while we were out in the city, she would always keep a slight distance from me. This behavior seemed odd considering her role as a sniper; it would make more sense for Viktor and Miyoung to switch positions. What's even more strange is that the school board seems completely infatuated with Miyoung's foreign beauty. They have gone so far as to create a poll to determine who is prettier between Kumiko and Miyoung. It's just bizarre.
The school day came to an end as the bell rang. I found myself in the library with Hideki, Nanako, and Kumiko. Miyoung was sitting in an empty desk across the library, silently observing us. We were all studying for our entrance and final exams. It was Tuesday, February 1st, 2079, and we were feeling completely miserable with our faces buried in our books.
In a hushed voice, Kumiko asked me a question while focusing on a math problem. "Where did you meet Miyoung?"
"She is a friend of Asuka's," I replied. "She followed me from South Korea to Japan."
"Did she adopt you?" Hideki inquired.
"Yes," I answered.
"Once again, that's not how it works," Nanako whispered back.
Suddenly, Sho, Hina, and Saki joined us in the library and took the empty chairs beside us. Sho let out a defeated sigh as he planted his head on the table, while Hina and Saki quietly retrieved their books and began studying with us despite being second years.
"I'm going to fail the entrance exams," Sho silently lamented. He let out a long whimper which we ignored him.
"Kobayashi," Hina whispered, momentarily distracted from the reading in front of me. She persisted, "Can I ask you something?" Without shifting my gaze, I noticed Hina sneak a quick glance over her shoulder at Miyoung.
"I replied, 'Her name is Lee Miyoung. She's Asuka's international friend. Just like Viktor, I can't understand why she's always following me.'
'Saki whispered, 'Hina is completely infatuated with her cool beauty.'
Hina tapped Saki's shoulder as a warning. 'You're one to talk, Saki. You freeze when you see her even though you yourself are also a cool beauty.” I ignored her. She complained quietly and added, 'Just look at her cool beauty, Kobayashi.' Hina leaned closer to me and asked blushingly, 'Does she have a girlfriend?'
'Hideki interjected disapprovingly.
'Hina pouted and said, 'You don't get a say in this.' They continued arguing softly in the library.
I tapped the communication coms on my ears and heard Miyoung say, 'Once you're finished studying, Shiro wants to meet with you.'
'Viktor asked eagerly,' Are we finally going on a mission?'
'No,' she replied. 'It's not that. Shiro has a lesson for Kobayashi.'"
Our studies lasted for a couple of hours, but I decided to leave first to meet with Shiro. The others continued studying while I left the school grounds. Viktor followed closely behind me, while Miyoung trailed behind from an elevated position.
"I heard there's a fan club for you," I said, tapping my communication ear. "Hina, Hideki's younger sister, is the president of the fan club. There were over a hundred students who applied to join. You're quite popular, Miyoung."
"Does Viktor have a dedicated fan club?" Viktor asked.
“Viktor please.” Miyoung said, irritated.
"Ren is the president of Viktor's fan club," I replied. "He's the only member in the fan club."
“Viktor is pleased.” Viktor said, satisfied with his arm crossed.
“Let’s stop by at a convenient store to grab some food.” I interjected. “I’m kind of hungry from all that studying.”
I encountered Shiro in the training room located deep within the facility, while Miyoung and Viktor remained outside, observing through the transparent window. As I entered, my attention was drawn to a plethora of weapons adorning the walls. Ranging from rudimentary tools like a wooden club from prehistoric times to SUIT's cutting-edge rifle, there were millions of options to choose from. I approached Shiro at the center of the room and joined him there.
"Are you ready for your lesson?" he inquired.
"I suppose so," I responded cautiously.
He started, "As you may already know, the others each have their own unique weapon. For instance, Lee Miyoung wields a sleek retro sniper rifle, Viktor Krauss possesses a Japanese heavyweight oni kanabo, and Shigihara Asuka utilizes war fans. They share a special bond with their respective weapons and name them accordingly.” He continued. “What we have in this room many variants of weapons that specialized their own uniqueness. Kobayashi, I would want you to concentrate right now.”
And so, I continued onwards. As I focused my attention, the sounds of the interior structures and the light fixtures above suddenly disappeared, only to be replaced by a cacophony of unfamiliar voices whispering all around me. This unexpected disturbance immediately shattered my concentration.
"What you heard, Kobayashi," Shiro said promptly. "The voices you hear are those of the weapons surrounding you. They beseech for a connection with you and each possesses its own name. You have the ability to cultivate a peaceful relationship with your weapon, like what Lee Miyoung and Viktor Krauss share. On the other hand, there are instances where a user's weapon exercises control over them due to their deep-rooted resentment towards life, as seen in the cases of Imka Mlambo and Annisa Hidaya.” He continued. “I want you to focus on finding that connecting bend with your weapon.”
Shiro lifted his fist and swiftly snapped his fingers, resulting in a magnificent blaze materializing just above his fingertips. "Fire," he declared, pointing towards the flames. As Shiro unclenched his hand, the fire dissipated. At that moment, I became aware of ice taking shape above his palm. "And also ice," he clarified, indicating the frozen substance with a gesture. "I possess the ability to summon fundamental elements like fire and more advanced elements like ice by simply snapping my fingers." The ice gradually melted away. "However, my primary element is..." Suddenly, flames illuminated once again above his palm. "...fire." Once more, the fire disappeared into thin air.
"Can you please inform me about the elements of Viktor Krauss and Lee Miyoung?" Shiro inquired.
I adjusted my position and gazed at them through the transparent window, observing them from the opposite side. Then, I turned to Shiro and promptly replied, "Viktor Krauss's primary element is metal. His weapon is a Japanese Oni Kanabo called Wilma, which consumes metal to enhance its strength. Viktor himself becomes more formidable by harnessing the advantages of metal as it spreads throughout his body."
"And what about Lee Miyoung?" he pressed on. "What makes her special?"
Lee Miyoung's blindness is actually an advantage rather than a disadvantage. Her primary sense is sound, complemented by her secondary sense of wind. She relies on echolocation and seismic perception to gauge her surroundings, allowing her to detect and focus on targets, whether they are behind walls or across various terrains. Despite being positioned as a sniper, Miyoung's small stature enables her to excel in close quarter combat as well. Her trusty weapon of choice is a retro sniper rifle affectionately named Kimchi."
"Excellent job, Kobayashi," Shiro exclaimed, clearly impressed. "You possess remarkable insight into their personalities, even though you've only known them briefly. This explains why they trust you." I can only hope that their trust is indeed the reason they choose to follow me.
Shiro asked. “When was the last time you lit your element?”
“A couple of weeks ago.” I answered. “After that, fire doesn’t come out at will.”
Suddenly, a violent gust of wind swept through the room, causing me to react instinctively by evading a weapon descending from above. It either pierced the ground or missed completely. After a moment's realization, I noticed that the ground was made of earth itself. Astonishingly, an arm emerged from the earth and skillfully caught the weapon mid-air. Gradually, a figure materialized as it rose from the ground, revealing their identity to me.
Simultaneously, I felt another presence approaching from a different direction. Swiftly pivoting, I managed to dodge several arrows aimed at me. Drawing my knife in response, I found myself hindered by vines that suddenly sprouted from the ground and ensnared my wrist.
From one corner of the room emerged a swirling twister of wind which stopped beside the Earth figure before disappearing altogether. The female form then hovered momentarily before gently landing on her feet.
Meanwhile, despite attempts to free myself, I remained trapped within the clutches of tightly wound vine around my wrist.
"Introducing Ishika Pena, the Windbreaker, and Olek Zajac, the Earth Lover," Shiro announced. "They will be teaching you how to access your element, while also helping you discover which weapon resonates with you.”
Ishika Pena was born in 1550, during the Vijayanagara Empire, modern day India. However, soon after her birth, the empire's rise halted and it was eventually vanquished by the Deccan Sultanate Alliance to the North in 1565. The enemy razed the capital during this time. Ishika continued to live a normal life when the Aravidu Dynasty took over power. She passed away from natural causes ten years before the fall of the Aravidu Empire in 1614.
Olek Zająć was born in 980, during the Piast Dynasty, in what is now modern-day Poland. Olek became a close advisor to Boleslaw I the Brave, after Bolesław established the first Polish Church and embarked on territorial conquests. Olek would see Boleslaw be crowned the first king of Poland in the after life.
"Oh, Ishika has such a cool name, and I'm stuck with this lame name?" Olek questioned.
Ignoring him, Shiro replied, "Just like Miyoung and Viktor who have mastered their elements, Ishika and Olek have also achieved mastery over theirs." With that said, Olek freed the vines that were restraining my arm. "They will be your opponents in this fight." Shiro disappeared into thin air while his voice echoed around us.
"Wait, what?" I exclaimed in confusion.
Suddenly, vines coiled around my ankles as Olek hurled his spear towards me. Simultaneously, Ishika let loose several arrows aimed at me.
I find a one-on-one battle to be a fair fight because I am able to comprehend the situation and have the ability to slightly shift the tide of battle in my favor. However, I currently struggle to understand and handle a two-on-one battle. Master Shiro has emphasized that eventually, I will face such scenarios, even going as far as four-on-one battles. Overwhelming situations are something I must experience firsthand rather than encountering them unexpectedly on the battlefield. In this training regimen, Olek and Ishika will not take it easy on me nor provide any leniency in terms of adjusting my direction.
Although I made every effort to avoid engaging in close and ranged combat with them, my main priority was to concentrate on a solitary voice emanating from a coveted weapon that was hung on the wall. This presented quite a challenge, as their murmurs echoed all around me, enticing me to employ them in my battle.
Olek lengthened his reach with his spear, granting me a brief moment of respite. However, I was quick to notice Ishika seizing that opportunity to shoot an arrow at me. An exchange ensued, but I found myself uncertain of how to proceed.
Swiftly, I ducked to the side and narrowly evaded his arrow. Yet, I felt a graze from his wind element on my cheek as it whizzed past. With Olek positioned behind me, I swiftly spun around and delivered a kick to his shoulder. Unfortunately, my attack didn't inflict much harm due to the wooden defense he had there.
Using the remaining shield, I pushed Olek back and then threw it at Ishika. Olek regained his footing and once again thrust his spear towards me, this time with vines entwined around its tip. Reacting swiftly, but with surprise as the vines grazed my cheek, I wrapped my arm around his spear and pulled him towards me. With a powerful punch to his face, Olek was sent hurtling across the wall.
Suddenly, Ishika appeared beneath me and landed a punch on my chin. The impact launched me into the air as a massive wooden spike erupted from the ground below me. As I soared through the sky, I reached for a crossbow latched onto the wall and took aim at her. However, luck was not on my side as the arrow shattered upon release from the crossbow.
Meanwhile, Ishika rode atop the tip of the wooden spike and unleashed a flurry of arrows at me. In response, I tossed away the useless crossbow and pushed off from the wall in order to avoid both arrows and wooden spike alike. Just as Ishika vanished into thin air mysteriously; however,a branch grew out of that very same wooden spike wrapping itself around my ankle. Due to the branch connected to the main spike, I was being dragged along with.
I quickly freed myself from the restraint and descended in a free fall just as the wooden spike hit the ceiling above. Swiftly, I grasped onto another branch and swung myself towards a nearby spear before descending once again.
"Second Wind: Hurricane Fury."
Ishika launched an unexpected attack from the side, forcefully spinning me around within her hurricane-like motion. She slammed me against the wall and then onto the ground. As Ishika and her winds disappeared, I found myself lying on the ground, gasping for breath. The spear that I had held was now split into two pieces.
After lying there for approximately thirty seconds, I rose to my feet. Olek persistently pursued me and suddenly appeared directly in front of me, thrusting his spear towards me. Utilizing my prosthetic arm, I successfully blocked his attack and evaded his movements for a few more minutes. Nevertheless, the situation grew more challenging as Ishika joined the fray from behind me. I continued to match their pace, but they became increasingly difficult to handle once they realized that I adapted my defense against their attacks from various directions. With a forceful kick, Olek propelled me across the room once again, impeding my progress. As I struggled to catch my breath, Olek reappeared before me in an equally breathless state.
He reached for my neck and brashly pushed me back to the wall. Olek lifted me up and held me firmly. “You’re quite impressive, Kobayashi.” Ishika appears behind Olek. She was also catching her breath. “I didn’t think you have the speed to match ours. Daisuke Modegi must’ve given you something interesting.”
I fought to escape from Olek's grasp, but my previous efforts had drained me of energy. The voices emanating from the weapons persisted, urging me to use them in battle. However, I disregarded the deceitful promises of these illusory voices, gradually blocking out each one until only a few faint whispers lingered around me. Among them was a katana resting on the wall, which softly whispered to me with elegance. Its soothing words started to calm my racing mind. With determination, I stretched out my arm to retrieve it while Olek and Ishika observed me silently and attentively.
As luck would have it, I happened to touch the handle of the katana when Olek realized what was happening. He swiftly pulled me away from the wall and threw me off the ground. I rolled a couple times before coming to a stop, my face focus on the katana on the ground near the wall continued whispering to me. I reached for it as I saw it subtly vibrating in plain view. They haven’t noticed it.
The moment the vines started to coil around me, they effortlessly lifted me off the ground. They tightly wrapped themselves around my body, securing their hold on me. However, I managed to free my dominant hand from their grip, summoning my katana to return to my side. In response, it swiftly flew towards me and I skillfully caught it in my hand. With a swift motion, I deftly sliced through the vines that had ensnared me. As I descended back down and landed firmly on my feet, I stood victorious with a katana firmly grasped in my hand. This time, the weapon remained intact without shattering into pieces.
“Trust in me,” a calm female voice spoke. “And I will give you what you need, Issei.”
“Impressive,” exclaimed Olek. "I'm eager to witness the true power of that katana." Both Olek and Ishika swiftly launched their attacks.
With a firm grip, I wielded the katana with both hands, effectively parrying their close-range assaults. As I continued engaging in combat with Olek, an overwhelming surge of energy emanated from my trusted blade. I matched with Olek and Ishika as they increased their speed for a couple minutes until I couldn’t match it anymore. Olek once again tossed me across the room.
Once again, I hear a voice coming from a weapon close by. I fix my gaze upon a black katana hanging on the wall. This time, the powerful voice bewitches me, compelling me to wield it in battle. As the scar on my left eye tingles ever so slightly, I perceive it being summoned by the authoritative male voice. Rising to my feet, I stride towards the sound of the black katana's call. With curiosity blooming inside me, I observe it intently.
I reached for it with my non-dominant hand and felt this immense powerful energy coming from it when I held it firmly. It felt uncontrolled and demeaning as my scar continued to glow.
"Come back to me, Kobayashi," she said. "Let's work together." She overpowered the dark voice that resided within me.
I turned around and faced Olek and Ishika with both swords firmly in my hand. "Light My Way, Calm Princess," I commanded. Suddenly, fire erupted from my swords, illuminating them in a vibrant red color on my main sword and a deep crimson on the other. By unleashing my element in battle, it signified the completion of my training with Ishika and Olek. My vision became blurry and the fire on my swords gradually disappeared. I fell to my knees and then onto the ground, quickly passing out.
I woke up in the medical room, my head filled with the echoing sounds of my weapons. As I regained consciousness and became aware of my surroundings, Kokoro was beside me, checking my vital signs. Miyoung sat quietly in a corner while Viktor stood just outside the room. Slowly, I sat up and noticed that my two katanas were sheathed on the bed.
"You're finally awake, Kobayashi," Miyoung said. "How are you feeling?"
"I feel like I'm on fire," I replied, rubbing my head. "That was terrible. What day is it?" I groaned as I massaged my forehead.
Miyoung approached me and handed me a bottle of water. "It's Friday, February 4th, 2079," she answered. "You were unconscious for three days."
"Please stay still, Kobayashi," Kokoro warned me. "You still need to recover."
"I'll try," I weakly chuckled.
"Don't forget," Miyoung said as she stood up and handed me a transparent tablet. "We're supposed to go to Venezuela in a week."
"Please don't remind me," I complained as I eagerly drank from the water bottle

Anon asked: “ Can you do a one-shot were reader is Light's sister and secretly in a relationship with L and she spends the night with L at HQ for the first time and Light catches her leaving L's bedroom and confronts her and L in front of the whole Task Force“
A/N: sure dear. But since in the manga L and Light were handcuffed together at the HQ, I changed a bit the location so this one-shot is set in the hotel we can all see in the anime.
Again, sorry if you find mistakes in my stories, English is not my first language.
pairing: L x Light’s sister!reader

The third Yagami. Why did nobody talk about her? Y/N Yagami: H/L hair in a shining H/C shade, excellent scholastic career and charming personality. Few years younger than Light and older than Sayu, she was as smart as Light, as perfect as her older brother despite the tiny age gap so why she wasn't on everyone's lips like him? Simple, because she liked something called discretion.
Y/N Yagami never liked being under the spotlight (A/N: ahah did you get the joke here?). She was an excellent student yes, Soichiro and Sachiko's pride, but she didn’t show it off.
Y/N, Light and Sayu had a special bond. They would do everything for each other, they were one the confidant of the other. However, since the end of November 2003 Light started to act strange. He would spend more time in his room than with Y/N or Sayu and both of her didn’t know the reason. He was more distant and colder with her too and this made Sayu a bit sad.
But, as we said before, Y/N loved discretion. Something happened to her too. She met someone. It was a strange encounter, Y/N admitted it.
♰ FLASHBACK ♰
It was another rainy day at Tokyo but Y/N had her F/C umbrella in her bag. Luckily it wasn’t that heavy so she was pretty confident she would reach home all dry.
Wrong. Not much after she left the Daikoku Private Academy (her high school), a heavy shower poured on her and the tiny pocket-sized umbrella could do precious little. Fortunately, a nearby bakery had a big awning and she ran towards it searching for a shelter.
«Damn…such a timing…» she wasn’t wet but that rain bothered her a lot since that afternoon she wanted to go at the tennis field with Light.
Y/N closed the umbrella and turned to take a look at the shop window of that bakery. In front of her a large variety of sweets, cookies, cakes, ice-creams, candies scattered all together on a table. She frowned finding it quite strange.
«Why on a table?» she asked mostly at herself since she was alone under the awning. However, she soon realised it was not the bakery's shop window but the table of one of the many clients. Then, from behind a black cherry double layer cake, appeared a head of a young man with messy black hair. Y/N observed how greedily that man was eating the cake: in one bite he ate almost half slice of that cake.
She opened her E/C eyes wide at that sight. Were all those sweets only for him? He would get a stomach ache and a cavity if he decided to eat all those sugary delights.
Another good look at the guy and Y/N, if it was possible, would open even wider her eyes: a very slim, pale, young man with messy neck-length black hair and black eyes; those eyes had a deep shadow below them, maybe his sleep was too much overwrought. Y/N noticed how simple his clothes were: a pair of blue jeans and a long-sleeved white shirt. Nothing more, nothing less.
But two things caught Y/N attention: first, his posture. He seemed to prefer to crouch rather than sit. And second, the way he was holding those sweets, using only a thumb and a finger. For someone as Y/N Yagami, a guy like him was strange yet interesting at the same time. For some reason she wanted to know more about him.
He was going to eat what remained of the slice of cake when he turned his gaze at her. His look was so intense that made Y/N jump for the surprise. However, she got hypnotised by those eyes, so deep black and apparently empty.
They kept staring at each other for a while, none of them looked away or blinked. It was only when someone spoke near Y/N's ear that she snapped back in the real world.
«Y/N, what are you doing here?» it was Light with his usual serious voice. When Y/N looked at him she noticed he was still wearing the Daikoku's uniform.
«Light!» she turned her body fully at him. «I was waiting the rain to stop»
«It stopped ten minutes ago, we're waiting for you at home»
Ten minutes ago? For how much time Y/N and that guy stared at each other then? She apologised to Light and before leaving the bakery's awning she looked inside one more time but she didn’t see that weird boy anymore.
♰ BACK TO THE PRESENT ♰
Since that particular encounter, Y/N met few more times that guy. Especially at the To-Oh University where Y/N was present at a tennis match between that guy and Light. Of course Light won and his little sister couldn’t be happier.
One day, back at that specific bakery where the two saw each other for the first time, Y/N was enjoying a break from her studies with a cup of tea and some sweets when she felt a presence beside her.
«Good afternoon, Miss. May I have a seat?» a warm and monotone voice spoke not much far from her. When Y/N turned towards the source of that voice she couldn’t hide the surprise in finding that same weird guy! What was his name…ah, something like Hideki Ryuga, like the idol. Sayu loved that actor.
Y/N looked around the shop noticing many empty tables so she found it very strange. However, she gestured him the chair in front of her and he sat down. Well, the correct expression was "he crouched" since he didn’t sit like a normal person.
«I noticed you took all the remaining daifuku» (A/N: "daifuku" = a Japanese confection consisting of a small round mochi (glutinous rice cake) stuffed with sweetened red bean paste made from azuki beans. They could be white, pale green, or pale pink-coloured).
«It's because they're my favourite sweets»
Shortly after that a waiter walked closer and took Hideki's order and few minutes later that same waiter brought a cup of tea and a large slice of strawberry shortcake. The two of them stood in silence for a while until Y/N decided to end that embarrassing situation.
«I saw you at the To-Oh…great match» Y/N took a sip of her tea, the steam warmed her face.
«Thank you. Light Yagami was a great rival back then. Aren't you too young for the University?»  he asked tilting his head in confusion, the thumb was pressed against his pale lips. «Oh my, the manners. I'm Hideki Ryuga»
«Like the idol?» Y/N asked surprised.
«Yes» Hideki replied and then he devoured in one bite an entire daifuku.
Of course Y/N didn’t believe him. Sure, it could be true that this guy shared the same name with someone else. However, Y/N had a strange feeling.
«I'm Y/A» she ate a daifuku, a pale-green one.
«Only Y/A?»
«Yes»
Unaware of Y/N, Hideki's gaze darkened. He knew exactly who Y/N was and the fact that she used an alias much like him made grow a strange excitement inside him. That was going to be fun.
♰ TIME SKIP ♰
It went without saying that Y/N and Hideki (or Ryuzaki as he wanted to be called) created a special, deep tie. Something completely different from the connection with Light and Sayu. Between Y/N and Ryuzaki there was understanding, complicity and empathy; they completed each other sentences and their way of reasoning was the same. This bond became even stronger when Ryuzaki revealed he was the greatest detective L. Y/N suspected that he was hiding something but she couldn’t imagine something like that.
Soon they could consider themselves in a romantic relationship. The fact that Y/N was Light's sister could be a problem but not for L. The two of them had a personal way to show love and affection: whispering sweet nothings in each other ears, lacing their fingers together when nobody was looking or gently running a hand over each other’s back or arm. In public they were quite discrete as Y/N requested. However, one day this discretion broke irremediably.
«Are you sure? I mean…I'm Light's sister after all…»
«You're nothing like Light-kun, Y/N»
It was late afternoon, almost dinner time. Very soon Y/N should come back home but before that they had a couple of hours for themselves. Their relationship grew to such an extent that both of them were ready to take one step forward (if you what I mean).
«You're the exact opposite…your eyes don't have the same dangerous shadow as his» L raised the hand and touched Y/N's cheeks, the index finger traced every curve of her features as to register everything.
Y/N smiled leaning in the touch. She looked at him, E/C pools met black ones. After an endless minute, their faces became closer and closer until a kiss connected them. A first chaste and sweet kiss turned in something more passionate and rough, the hands started to roam around their bodies wanting more and more. And they had more those hours.
.
.
.
It was 7pm and Light had to walk back home with Y/N as often happened when she would come with him at Ryuzaki's hotel. The Yagami boy had a strange feeling about his sister: she was acting strange, she was so out of character. Nothing worrying but Light noticed this change in his sister.
He was searching for Y/N around the hotel, they had to meet near the elevator but she didn’t specify which one. That was what Light referred when he said "being out of character": Y/N would never forget a detail like that, he knew she was a precise person.
However, Light would discuss this later but in that moment he had to find his sister. He turned the corner and stopped abruptly at the sight in front of him: Y/N was kissing L on the lips in front of his bedroom.  Light kept staring at them in disbelief, horror and in rage. How dare L do such things with his sister? He was going to pay for this.
After the kiss, Y/N walked away from the bedroom leading towards the private lounge where the task-force worked. Maybe she wanted to say hi to Soichiro before leaving the hotel. Light followed her, his blood was boiling inside him. Now he had another good reason to kill Ryuzaki, at least from his point of view.
«Dad! Me and Light are leaving. Should we wait for you for dinner?»
«No dear, I'll be late tonight. Be careful on your way home»
Light joined the task-force in the lounge shortly after Y/N. Everyone greeted him but he didn’t say anything. His younger sister found it quite weird.
«Are you alright, Light?»
«Of course, Y/N. Everything's fine…except for the fact I saw you»
«It's good to hear you don’t need glasses, Light…» Y/N tried to appear relaxed by using sarcasm but inside her she was panicking.
«I'm talking about the kiss with Ryuzaki» he crossed the arms while looking sharply at his sister.
«The what?!» Soichiro uttered in shock dropping all the papers on the ground. Even the rest of the task-force was shocked.
In that exact moment L entered the lounge and sat at his armchair ignoring everyone's gaze on him.
«Ryuzaki! Explain! Is it true you kissed my daughter?» Soichiro asked in a rush. His face was red but for rage or embarrassment? Who knew.
«Please Yagami-san, there's no need for these scenes» the greatest detective in the world replied monotone as always.
«Don’t tell me to stay calm, Ryuzaki!»
L sigh. «Light-kun, could you tell your father to stay calm please?»
«I won't say anything, Ryuzaki. However, I would rather an explanation»
«You don’t need explanations, Light. My life has nothing to do with you» Y/N crossed the arms as well, now quite bothered by both her father and brother.
«You cannot date Ryuzaki, Y/N!» Light said firmly.
«And please, may I know the reason?» Y/N counterattacked.
«Because he is way older than you!»
«Look who's talking…the boy who is dating a girl older than him…» Y/N was talking about Misa who was for real two years older than Light.
This back and forth continued for a while and the three Yagamis were raising too much their voices for L's taste. Luckily, the rest of the task-force was too terrified to interfere and kept following with the eyes the moves of Soichiro, Light and Y/N. After a while, L had enough.
«Light-kun, Yagami-san please…» he put down the discussion using his alluring and authoritative voice despite it was always so emotionless. However, Y/N discovered how passionate his voice could be just few hours before in his bedroom. «Have you even considered that your daughter is smart enough to understand what is the best for her? I understand that you, Yagami-san, as a father and you, Light-kun, as a brother were worried about Y/N's safety, but please evaluate her opinion too before making a fuss» L took from the pocket of his jeans a lollipop, he unwrapped it and started to eat it.
Light and Soichiro stopped arguing. At those words Soichiro was deep in thought while Light didn’t change his mind about that topic.  After five minutes of silence, Soichiro sighed.
«I want the best for her too…» he admitted. «And if you're the best for her, Ryuzaki, so be it»
«Dad!» Light protested but Soichiro raised a hand to stop him.
«I know you're worried, Light, but Ryuzaki is right. Y/N…are you sure about him?»
Y/N nodded with conviction. «Yes dad, I trust and love Ryuzaki with all my heart. I want to stay with him»
Soichiro smiled at her. «Good. But Ryuzaki!» he said out of nowhere pointing his index finger to the greatest detective in the world. «If you hurt Y/N in any way I'm going to arrest you!»
In the meantime, Light didn’t say a word. He was trying to elaborate a new plan after that sudden turn of events. When Y/N asked his opinion about that argument, he replied that as long as Ryuzaki treated her with love and respect he could consider the idea to accept that relationship.
But now that his sister and Ryuzaki were a couple, will he continue with his deadly plan?

Some of Takaomi Tsugaru’s best quotes
Tumblr media
“Wipe the drool. I’m not THAT handsome, am I?”
“That’s all you have to say about mon visage?”
“True, going on a date with a pretty girl isn’t so bad. But it’s definitely more fun hanging out with you.”
“Your butt cheeks are two different sizes, too.”
“A little pet of Hideki’s and Hyogo’s? This I gotta see. Graduated with honors, eh? Singled out already, huh? Sounds like a gorilla girl. I picture a hearty, muscled lass with arms like hams. But what eventually materializes before me is a cute little hoppy white hare.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“Throwing her hard-written report into the trash basket has me in a great mood. Lalala...” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“Drag her? She may be fierce, but she’s only bunny-sized. If she gets grabbed by three guys at once...” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“She seemed so feminine. Having fun, and drinking more than she intended. (...) She flops back over, karate-chopping me in the face. How’d she manage to land a critical hit while sleeping?! Why did she decide to go into Public Safety? An innocent, carefree girl like this?” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“This might be the first time I’ve really gotten a good look at her face. It isn’t too bad. She has a cute little nose, and her mouth moves like a little animal when it’s flapping. She’s even kind of charming. I scrutinize her face, drinking in the details.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“Probably because she’s a country bumpkin... No, no. She’s a daisy fresh girl raised on farm-fresh air.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“You four-eyed jerk...” (—Tsugaru to Ishigami)
“Don’t take my Little Hare... I want her all to myself.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“She and Goto could be doing it like bunnies for all I should care.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“I should drop Momo’s toenail clippings in that coffee of yours...” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts about MC)
“Don’t look so innocent while you’re sitting on a man’s thighs. I can feel her body heat... This proximity...” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“I figured out from that little incident that dressing up isn’t your forte. Besides, it’s hard to compete with my beauty.”
“It’s a curse being this handsome.” (—Tsugaru talking about himself to Kurosawa)
“I hope you’re looking forward to it too, Little Hare... Our D.A.T.E!” (—Tsugaru speaking loudly to make the other guys jealous)
“I really wanted you to see it. How the old Namba gang would react. As the day of our date approached, Little Hare, they couldn’t stand it. Hideki’s frown line just kept getting deeper and deeper. And Hyogo was drinking so much coffee, he was practically vibrating.”
“Yes, we’re like Beauty and the Beast, aren’t we? Come along, Beast.”
“Are you jealous of our bro-date, Little Hare? (—Tsugaru talking about when he was hanging out with Kaga in the past to MC)
“Don’t compare your face and mine. It’s an insult.”
“You unfaithful hussy.”
“Little Hare takes priority.”
“You’re quite big, Little Hare. (...) Maybe I was talking about your chest.”
“No shoulder rides for you, little man.” (—Tsugaru to Noa after he was called “weird” by him)
“You’re right. You’re more of a snot-dribbler than a tear-spiller.”
“How can you say a handsome face like mine is ever “in the way”...?”
“Trying to make me hate you? ...Silly. Thank you for not changing. Please... always stay the way you are.”
“Hmm? You want a non-antidote kiss this time? Ahaha. You’re bright red. Like a tomato. Let’s see if I can make you... a squashed tomato.”
“We should at least go on a date before we get married. Let’s go on a date.”
“When I was a kid, I was always imagining things, never knowing that part of me would be killed off. But right now, I indulge in a little fantasy of Little Hare’s twitchy bunny face.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“Excuse me?! I fight a sudden urge to take a flying kick at Seiji’s back.” (—Tsugaru being jealous of Goto in his thoughts)
“I’d decided not to use my past to make excuses. But the complex I’ve been hiding... It’s in every part of me.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“Was she asking because she wants to be my girlfriend? I’d like to tell you... that you deserve that position, too. (...) Girlfriend, huh. When she asked me why I can’t get one... my heart skipped a beat. The only girl I can think of that could fit the bill is her.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“She’s taken tons of snaps of Squad Katsuragi, all glistening with sweat. You dirty paparazzo, Little Hare. What are you thinking, letting strange men into your apartment? Strange men who aren’t ME! I delete all the photos before taking a few selfies, then handing her phone back. (...) I set the lock and background screens as me too.” (—Tsugaru talking and thinking about MC)
“Can I say goodnight to the baby in your belly? Goodnight. I can’t wait to meet you.” (—Tsugaru talking to his mom and unborn sibling, as a child)
“I started having dumb, hopeful thoughts of being her someone special.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“A murderer’s blood runs in my veins. This was the one thing I didn’t want her to know about me. I didn’t want you to know... Not you. Not my normal, innocent Little Hare.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“I want to be a man you can feel confident sticking by. I don’t want you to stay around because you’re worried. You’re my first real personal relationship, I guess.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“I’ll save her, over and over. I’d do anything to rescue the woman I love.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“She purses her lips. Gah, so cute. (...) Then she smirks at me, seeming very satisfied. She looks so, so happy. Cute as heck! I want to grab her and take her someplace private...” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“I’ll draw Momo frying Little Hare alive with his Momo Beam.” (Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“(...) Once there was a boy called Momotaro... He was friends with a little hare, and a mean dog called Hyogo and a cyborg called Hideki. They traveled to the land of demons to fell the demon lord Seiji...” (—Tsugaru making up a story for Noa)
“She’s so good at being honest and earnest with people. Knowing she might hurt them, but not backing down, for the sake of what’s right. And she knows how to soothe those hurts, too.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“I knew it was only ever going to be a dream. Such a pure, uncomplicated girl could never fall for someone... like me.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“I’ll have to start calling you Little Piggy instead of Little Hare.”
“So she and Seiji had a little kitty friend at the academy? I’ll have to crush their relationship.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts)
“Be happier about being chained to a hot guy.”
“My dream’s to go to Momo’s wedding. Be happy, my friend.” (—His VIP room)
“Imagine Hyogo of all people having a soft spot for someone. What a shock.” (—His VIP room)
“Dreamed I was being attacked by Kaga Kong and Ishizilla. I must be tired.” (—His VIP room)
“I happen to love my talented little subordinate, after all.” (—Tsugaru talking about MC, in Shinonome’s route)
“She’s surrounded by men. Is that businessman staring at her? If he gropes her, I’ll bring social justice down upon him.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts about a random man & MC)
“Stay away, ace! (...) She’s done with you all. She has a new man now.” (—Tsugaru talking about MC to Goto and the others)
“I bet you spent two hours getting ready for this. You look cute though.”
“Well I noticed you like eating.”
“What about Tsugaru variety? (...) I’d like to be bitten by you. Will you eat me up?” (—Tsugaru talking about an apple version of him to MC)
“Just for today, I wanted you to only think about me.”
“Doctor Doolittle?! Oh no, that’s a vet. ...Whatever! A doctor, eh... A detective is cooler than a doctor any day. Anyway, doctors don’t play fair. They act like group dates are their killing grounds.” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts about Hajime)
“Give you a call? Sure she will, buddy. (...) There’s silence when the guy departs. Say something. Tell me you like me way better!” (—Tsugaru’s thought about Hajime and MC)
“I wonder what she was like as a university student? He dated her back then... They would have held hands, kissed, and also... Whispered sweet nothings in bed. Aaargh! Why... Why can’t you be mine alone...” (—Tsugaru’s thoughts about Hajime and MC)
“I love you.”
“You could never forget the face of a good-looker like me after seeing it once, right?” (—His VIP room)
“I’m the type that makes sure he leaves his mark on the girl that means most to him.” (—His VIP room)
“I can see how chic you are - or trying to be at least. You dolled yourself up for me, right?” (—His VIP room)
“You could be honest and compliment me. Tell me how I’ve got a handsome face, but everything else about me is perfect.” (—His VIP room)
“Little Hare, you’re the only one for me.” (—His VIP room)
“Did you get a good shot? Send me the best one. That’s right, I was thinking Momo would like it.” (—His VIP room)
“Hyogo plus water is a crazy combo, isn’t it? Kinda like a demon lord that’s just emerged from out of the sea.” (—His VIP room)
“Hmph. Wait… Don’t you want to take a picture? You can make me your wallpaper, you know.” (—His VIP room)
“My clothes are supposed to be see-through and are supposed to cling to me. Sorry I’m too sexy.” (—His VIP room)
“Even when I’m wet my high quality remains… Wow.” (—His VIP room)

Undisputed Era: Pay the Price
Tumblr media
author’s note: heyya, it’s me again! here’s a random undisputed era wrestling story because... why not? this is a smut so you’re a submissive here, meaning bottom and undisputed era is dominant or top.
let’s celebrate Roderick Strong returning to NXT as a heel and leader of the ‘Diamond Mine’ with Tyler Rust, Malcolm Bivens and Hideki Suzuki. i’m curious to see how this goes because they’re targetting Kushida and his Cruiserweight belt.
from what happened last week, i’m assuming Roderick Strong is the one who wants the title and the other two are like his ‘henchmen or right-hand men’ that will be a tag-team. Malcolm Bivens is the Diamond Mine’s manager (a Paul Heyman character). this is my interpretation but i’m happy to see him back!
however what i’m not happy about is wwe’s recent releases which included Breezango and Roderick Strong’s wife, Marina Sharif. although i’m upset, they’re free now to do whatever they like without being trapped in a toxic relationship with WWE who control everything they do. what makes it a bit better is that Tyler Breeze will still be appearing on UpUpDownDown as usual.
anyway, enjoy the story!
plot: you did this and now you must pay the price for your actions.
warning: this story contains NSFW, explicit sexual content that may not be suitable for some readers
You did this to yourself and now, you must pay the price for your actions.
But, how did you end up in this predicament? Let’s take it back a couple hours ago.
[flashback]
You and the Undisputed Era had a frenemies relationship. You guys were on good terms both inside and outside the ring. However, they loved to tease you and flirt shamelessly with you, it drove you insane because it costed you many matches.
One moment you were about to win a match and the next moment, the Undisputed Era is surrounding the ring while teasing you by slowly taking off their shirts making you extremely flustered then your opponent wins instead.
This time you were going to get revenge.
According to Hunter (Triple H), they were scheduled to have a tag-team title match against Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch and you were going to ruin it. Your plan was perfect, it would give them a taste of their own medicine, you chuckled evilly when a stylist revealed your outfit after receiving specific instructions to make this outfit... extremely provocative.
Admiring yourself, you look totally different compared to plain jane look you’d usually rock. To be honest, you hated getting dressed up unless it was absolutely necessary because you didn’t believe that you were pretty enough. For most of your life, you were considered a tom-boy and liked it that way, however tonight was an exception.
Mini black dress paired with sleek black heels, minimal accessories, simple yet sultry make-up look and your hair left out in its natural waves. The dress pressed harshly against your bust and butt since it was a tight fit, defining these features even more.
You hid inside your dressing room and waited until the Undisputed Era’s title match was happening. You took a deep breath, ignoring the sudden fluctuation in your heart beat and headed out, towards the gorilla entrance. Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly were representing the Undisputed Era as the other two watched from the sidelines.
About to win, the technician cued your music and you headed out. Smirking teasingly, you provoked them by running a hand slowly down your body, purposefully moaning. If that wasn’t enough, you revealed a water bottle and emptied the entire contents onto your body, making your dress translucent.
It exposed your lacy black bra and tattoos. Continuing to tease them, you could see how their eyes suddenly turned dark, ignoring the match happening allowing Oney Lorcan to roll up Bobby Fish for the win and then reality set back in for them as the bell rang.
“THE WINNERS AND NEW NXT TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONS, DANNY BURCH AND ONEY LORCAN!”
Giggling, your plan had worked perfectly and you mouthed, “Karma’s a bitch.” No-one expected that you would cost the Undisputed Era a match, let alone a title match. Throwing a sultry look over your shoulders, you strut proudly backstage as some people wolf-whistled.
Back inside your dressing room, you were drying off and chatting with the stylists, “I can’t believe you did that, Y/N!” she exclaimed while you had just taken a warm shower and got dressed into black leggings, Bobby Fish’s Undisputed Era jumper he gave you and a sports bra.
He gave you his jumper when they accidentally ruined your change of clothes and you were always meaning to return it but decided to keep it instead after finding comfort in his scent, strangely. Yeah, you’ll admit, you had a tiny crush on them but they would never reciprocate the feelings so you kept it locked up.
Waving goodbye to the stylist, you were heading to your car when an arm appeared out of nowhere and pulled you inside a dark room, it was pin-drop silent making you even more scared.
You tried walking out, thinking this was just some sick joke and tried opening the door however before you could even twist the knob, a voice halted your movements.
“Hello Y/N,”
[flashback ended]
And this is how you ended up in this predicament.
Your back facing them, the lights were flicked on and you could feel their stares burning gaping holes into your back. The atmosphere turned tense quickly, it was silent... to them but to you, your heart beat became deafening as it rang in your ears.
Discreetly, your grip on the door handle tightened slightly, you had no courage to face them and remained fixed in your position, muttering silent prayers. One of them walked closer to you until they were right behind you and spun you around however you kept your gaze firmly on the floor.
Letting out a small ‘tsk’, a hand grabs your chin and yanks it up so you’re facing them. Adam Cole grinned... almost teasingly as he examined you, laughing at how scared you were compared to an hour ago where you were so confident.
“Oh Y/N, why are you so scared? Where did that confident person from an hour ago disappear to? Do you guys know?” he mockingly asked the other members who shrugged before returning his attention to you again.
Nudging you slightly, you were now pressed against the door, Adam had you trapped with his arms on either side of you. The other members watch carefully, you could see the mixed emotions swirling inside their eyes, “Now Y/N... you know what happens when someone costs us a championship...” he starts off.
Leaning, his breath made tickled your neck, his mouth curved into a smirk as he spoke the sentence, “They get punished.”
a/n: hello, this is part one! i’ll have part two up as soon as i can, i’ve just been taking some time to myself and focusing on looking after myself because my mental health isn’t doing great so far.
i hope i can give you guys good stories that don’t make me cringe and want to bury myself in a six-foot hole... which most of my stories want to make me do.
anyways, enjoy this story!

Amusing Himself to Death, an Akadot.com interview with Kazuya Tsurumaki (director of FLCL and assistant director of Evangelion) from around December 2001. In the article, Tsurumaki explains a few things about Evangelion, his mentality behind FLCL as a whole, and the meaning of the name ‘FLCL’.
Full article text is under the cut, or read the article in its original form [here].
Kazuya Tsurumaki was a relatively little-known animator when Hideki Anno selected him to work as the assistant director on Neon Genesis Evangelion. For the TV series, which became a smash hit in Japan and one of the touchstones of the current surge of interest in anime in the US, Tsuramaki served as the main storyboard artist as well as assistant director, and when Studio Gainax began production on a trio of Evangelion films Tsurumaki got his first directorial assignment.
As he tells the story, Anno came to him after Eva and announced that he was out of ideas and that it was up to Tsurumaki to dream up the next project because, "you are next." Tsurumaki let his imagination run wild, but by the time he had written a script, Anno - despite his declaration that he had no stories left to tell - was already several steps ahead of Tsurumaki and in pre-production for his next series, Kareshi Kanojo no Jijo, leaving Tsurumaki a chance to have complete and unsupervised creative control of his own series FLCL.
FLCL, referred to as "Fooly Cooly" (or "Furikuri" by its American fans), is unlike any anime series to come before it. Wild, maniacally fast-paced physical comedy; exaggerated, exuberant animation alternately pushing towards surrealist- as when mecha exuviate from a bump on young Naota's head - and deconstructionist - as when the animation literally stops and the story is told by a camera bouncing across a page of black and white manga art panels; and obsessively, often irrelevantly, referential to obscure Tokyo-pop bands and anime insider trivia; FLCL was hyperkinetic and disorienting, yet mesmerizing, almost transgressive, and undeniably original. It inspired enthusiastic admiration for Tsurumaki as a creator, even amongst the perhaps 90% of the series' fans who were absolutely baffled by much of it. One is tempted to refer to it as announcing the arrival of full blown post-modernism in animation, or perhaps as the Exploding Plastic Inevitable of the anime industry.
When Tsurumaki visited Baltimore to speak to American fans at the recent Otokon Convention, predictably, many of the questions were along the lines of, "Hi, I really loved FLCL [or Evangelion], but could you please explain this part of it to me?"
Tsurumaki answered all questions genially with a self-deprecating and often mischievous sense of humor. For example:
Why does Haruko hit Naota over the head with her guitar?
Kazuya Tsurumaki: Naota is trying to be a normal adult and she belts him to make him rethink his decision.
Why does Evangelion end violently, and somewhat unhappily?
KT: People are accustomed to sweet, contrived, happy endings. We wanted to broaden the genre, and show people an ugly, unhappy ending.
Why is the character of Shinji portrayed as he is?
KT: Shinji was modeled on director Hideki Anno. Shinji was summoned by his father to ride a robot, Anno was summoned by Gainax to direct an animation. Working on Nadia [Nadia: Secret of the Blue Water, one of Anno and Tsurumaki's earlier projects] he wondered if he still wanted to work like this. He thought that working on Eva could help him to change.
Is there any particular reason why so many Gainax series feature very anxious, unhappy young male protagonists with no parents?
KT: Yes, the directors at Gainax are all basically weak, insecure, bitter, young men. So are many anime fans. Many Japanese families, including my own, have workaholic fathers whose kids never get to see them. That may influence the shows I create.
Could you explain the mecha bursting from Naota's head in FLCL?
KT: I use a giant robot being created from the brain to represent FLCL coming from my brain. The robot ravages the town around him, and the more intensely I worked on FLCL the more I destroyed the peaceful atmosphere of Gainax.
Why doesn't FLCL follow one story?
KT: In the third episode Ninamori was almost a main character, a kid who, like Naota, has to act like an adult.  After episode three her problem was solved so we wrote her out.  She has many fans in Japan and we got plenty of letters about that decision.  For FLCL I wanted to portray the entire history of Gainax, and each episode has symbols of what happened behind the scenes on each of Gainax's shows.   Episode one has many elements of Karekano; episode two, a lot of Evangelion references, etc.
Where does the title FLCL come from?
KT: I got the idea from a CD in a music magazine with the title Fooly-Cooly.  I like the idea of titles that are shortened long English words. Pokémon for "Pocket-Monsters" for instance, and an old J-pop band called Brilliant Green that was known as "Brilly-Grilly."
Is there any reason why the extra scenes added to Eva for the video release were cut in the first place?  Did you think the story would mean something different with them intact?
KT: The scenes that were added to Eva for its video release aren't that important.  We added them as an apology for taking so long to get the video out.  Maybe they'll help people understand things, because the episodes were done under tough deadlines the first time around.
Can you explain the symbolism of the cross in Evangelion?
KT: There are a lot of giant robot shows in Japan, and we did want our story to have a religious theme to help distinguish us.   Because Christianity is an uncommon religion in Japan we thought it would be mysterious.  None of the staff who worked on Eva are Christians.  There is no actual Christian meaning to the show, we just thought the visual symbols of Christianity look cool.  If we had known the show would get distributed in the US and Europe we might have rethought that choice.
After the panel, Mr. Tsurumaki sat down to speak with Akadot.
Do you enjoy confusing people?
KT: I have a twisted sense of humor.  I'm an Omanu Jacku, a contrarian.  [Writer's note- Omanu Jacku is a folk character a bit like Puck, a mischief maker]
What do you see differently now that you're working as a director rather than only as a visual artist?
KT: As an animator I have only the art; as a director story is really big.  I still feel as an animator and I often have trouble putting the needs of the story first.
Did you intend from the start for FLCL to be as bizarre as it wound up?
KT: From the very start I wanted a different flavor.  To achieve this I had to re-train the animators to be as stylized as I wanted them to be because I wasn't drawing it.  I knew that not everyone would get it.  I deliberately selected very obscure J-pop culture and anime sub-culture jokes and references.  Because Eva was so somber I always intended to make FLCL outrageous and wacky.
Why the choice to break out of conventional animation and use manga pages? Was it at all a response to how many anime are using computers to achieve smoother and more realistic visuals?  Were you trying to go the opposite direction?
KT: I like manga, not only to read, but the visuals.  The pen drawings, the frame breakdowns and layouts . . . This is the first time I have used digital animation, and those bouncing manga shots wouldn't have been possible with cel animation.   Personally I'm not interested at all in using computers for realistic animation.  I'm impressed by it sometimes, but I'm interested in using computers to do what was once impossible, not to do smoother versions of what has already been done.  I want to be less realistic.
Has using digital animation techniques changed the way you work, or the way you feel about your work when you see it?  Does it still feel like it's yours if a computer did much of it?
KT: Before I got into digital animation I saw other shows that were using it and I felt that there was no feeling, it was empty.   As an animator, there's a sense of release when you draw a cel.  There's something there.  Working on FLCL, though, I learned that computers can do more, and, most of all, that they allow room for trial and error and revising, more freedom to experiment.  That is why I now feel that cel art cannot win against computers.  For actual animation everything is still drawn on paper.  That work hasn't changed.  It's the other stuff, the touchups, and coloring.  If we didn't use paper, maybe the feeling would change.
Earlier today you said that you were trying to broaden the genre by giving Eva a sad ending.  Does the sameness of much of today's anime bore you?
KT: First of all we didn't use a sad ending to annoy fans.  When they're upset, that really bothers us.  Personally, I think a happy ending is fine, but not if it is achieved too easily.  That's no good.
For all the fans that are confused at all, if you had to define in one sentence what FLCL is about, what would you say?
KT: FLCL is the story of boy meets girl.  For me it is also about how it's ok to feel stupid.  With Evangelion there was this feeling that you had better be smart to understand it, or even just to work on it. With FLCL I want to say that it's okay to feel stupid.
Even though it may be strange to us, do you have in your head a logic behind it?  Are you trying to portray a story that follows the logic of dreams, or is it supposed to make sense symbolically?
KT: I'd like you to think of FLCL as imagination being made physical and tangible, just as it is for me when I take whatever is in my head and draw it.
So what are you working on next?
KT: Right now Gainax has told me that they'll support anything I choose to create, but I'm having trouble coming up with any ideas.
Why is that?
KT: Releasing titles for market, I know I have to make something to please fans, but I'm not a mature enough person to accept that fact.  If I'm not amusing myself I can't do it.  I feel bad that fans have to put up with such behavior from me.  I apologize.

Could you write prompt 88 for natsume yuujjncho?
PROMPTS LIST
88. “That’s definitely not true.” “Of course it is. I read it on Wikipedia.”
x
Tooru is being her usual, relentlessly supportive self. Takashi would appreciate it any other time.
“I really don’t want to go on a date with your coworker,” he tells her for the third time.
“The best way to get over an unrequited love is to date for fun!” Tooru says with unfounded confidence.
To Takashi’s knowledge, Tooru has been comfortably aromantic for as long as Takashi has known her, so he has no idea where this apparent expertise is coming from and he’s somewhat afraid to find out.
“That’s definitely not true,” he says, attempting reason.
“Of course it is! I read it on Wikipedia.”
Behind Tooru, Kaname is giving Takashi a look of deep sympathy. Takashi closes his eyes, fortifying himself, and says, “Tooru-- ”
“Well, okay, it was a WikiHow article. But it was really well-reasoned!” She leans forward on her elbows, looking at him with wide, earnest eyes. “If this person you like won’t give you the time of day, forget about them! Go on a date with Hideki. You’ll have fun.”
“Don’t say it like that,” Takashi says weakly. “It’s not as though I told them I’m in love with them. They didn’t reject me. I’m not… pining.”
If anything, he’s regretting bringing up his hopeless infatuation in the first place. He fully blames Katsumi and one too many drinks over dinner last night. What had been a safe, if uncomfortable, secret for the last four years has somehow become an open discussion between three of his closest friends.
He’s deeply, exhaustively relieved he didn’t slip up and tell them who.
Tooru frowns at him.
“That’s another thing. Why are you so certain you’re not a total catch? I showed Hideki a picture of you and he, like, literally swooned. If you’d just tell this person you’re in love with them, they’d probably be over the moon.”
Takashi feels himself flush. Kaname is smiling at him now, gently but not without humor. He, at least, understands how strange the idea is that someone could look at him and see something worth having. Lucky for Kaname, Katsumi is both more stubborn than a mountain spirit and extremely vocal about the things he wants.
“I have an idea,” Tooru says brightly. She stands up, rounds the table, and offers Takashi her hand. “Come with me.”
With a deep sense of dread, Takashi takes her hand, and allows himself to be tugged out of the kitchen, past the sitting room where Kaname is half-rising from his chair with the look of someone with no idea how to stop this train wreck from happening but with every intention of giving it his best shot, and up the stairs.
She taps on the study door and slides it open. Satoru glances up from his laptop, paperwork spread across the desk beside him. He smiles when he sees who it is, shutting his computer halfway and giving them his full attention, the way he’s done since they were kids.
He always puts his friends first. It’s one of the first things Takashi loved about him.
“What are you two troublemakers up to?” he asks cheerfully. “Bring a new ghost home or something?”
“No ghosts today,” Tooru says. “We actually have a romance problem to solve.”
Something flickers in Satoru’s expression, but his smile doesn’t give an inch. “Oh? Do tell.”
“Takashi is in love with someone who doesn’t love him back,” she explains, to the very last person in the entire world Takashi would prefer she explained this to. “He doesn’t seem to realize that anybody would be lucky to date him. He won’t listen to me, so I figured he might listen to you.”
Satoru looks like a bird caught in wire, eyes round, body very still. “Um,” he says, aiming for a laugh and falling short, “why would he listen to me?”
“Well, you had a crush on him in high school,” Tooru says reasonably, as if she turns the world upside down on a regular basis, and it really isn’t that exciting. “So you’ll be able to tell him all his good points.”
For a second, everyone sits there and stares at each other. Takashi’s heart is beating so loud he thinks Kaname can probably hear it downstairs. Satoru is the first one to look away, hands doing the nervous fluttering they do when he’s about one minute away from a spiral.
“Yeah, I could definitely do that,” he says, too fast, a little too quiet, “um, but maybe later? I have to finish this paper, it’s worth half my grade in sociology, and the first draft is due tonight. It’s gonna be a whole thing. Might take awhile.”
Tooru is one of the smartest people Takashi has ever had the privilege of knowing, even if she can be kind of oblivious about some things that other girls are like bloodhounds for, and he sees it when she realizes she made a big mistake.
Her hands fly to her mouth. She’s apologizing, so fast the words break and stumble over each other, and Takashi gets the sense that this has been something of an open secret for a long time. That Satoru probably talked about it every now and then in a cheerful past-tense. That Tooru probably reasonably assumed that Takashi knew, since everyone else did.
Satoru seems as though he’s seriously contemplating the window as a means of escape, so Takashi says, “Tooru, can we have a minute?”
She looks ready to cry, so he presses her hand.
“It’s okay,” he says. “Really. I just need a minute.”
When she’s gone, flying back down the stairs by the sound of things, Takashi looks at Satoru. His best friend. His first friend. The first person who saw a strange transfer student who jumped at shadows and talked in whispers and decided there was something there worth knowing. The first person who took him by the hand and kept finding reasons not to let him go.
Satoru flinches when Takashi scoots over closer to him. He looks one step shy of humiliated.
“You had a crush on me back then?” Takashi asks gently.
“Kind of obvious, Bakashi,” Satoru mutters. “Everybody did. I’m the only one who didn’t know better.”
There’s something unfolding inside him that hurts to be trapped inside him, pressing against the walls and corridors that make up his heart as though searching for a window or a door or a crack to sneak through, too big to be contained.
Takashi borrows the same bravery that led him up mountains and across rivers and through fires when he was a child, and says, “I had a crush on you, too.”
Satoru’s head snaps up. He’s always been quick to cry, more emotional on a good day than Tooru and Katsumi at their very worst combined, and that hasn’t changed now that they’re in university. His mouth wobbles for a moment.
“Oh,” he says, with the kind of wonder and defeat better suited someone who just saw a fleeting vision of everything they ever wanted.
Takashi puts his hand on the desk, palm-up. After a beat, Satoru takes it. He always takes it.
“I still do,” Takashi admits.
“Oh,” Satoru says again, but this time he loses the battle not to start bawling over his homework.
The door rattles open with force, and Kaname is there with Tooru hovering fretfully at his shoulder, and he says, “Satchan, please don’t cry, Atsushi will kill us all. Even if none of us tell him, he’ll just know. It’s okay, we still love you, Takashi still loves you.”
Satoru buries his face in his free hand, shoulders shaking. It’s really not fair for them to have ambushed him like this, and Atsushi really will be angry when he gets home from his lecture and uses his unnerving psychic powers to find out that someone made Satoru cry, but Takashi is grinning so hard it hurts. His hand wrapped tight around Satoru’s feels the same as it always has.
“Yeah,” Takashi says, more easily than he would have thought possible even an hour ago. “I still do.”

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2 Episode 1 Easter Eggs & References
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Star Trek: Lower Decks article contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 1: “Strange Energies.”
The mission of the USS Cerritos is to do the jobs other Starfleet ships can’t; following up with all sorts of minutiae and boring outer space logistics, long after the Enterprise or the Defiant has warped out. But whether it’s Lower Decks or Picard or Discovery or Strange New Worlds, the mission of hardcore Trek fans is the same: Pause the screen and see what deep-cut Easter eggs got slipped in this time!
In Season 1, Star Trek: Lower Decks earned the reputation for the most meta-textual Star Trek ever. There are layers and layers of Trekdom within every frame of this series, making it hard to look at one episode and catalog all the references. But if you thought Season 1 went deep into the wells of Trekkie references and Easter eggs, Season 2 is here to make Season 1 look tame. The Season 2 premiere of Lower Decks — “Strange Energies” — is one giant Easter egg with a bunch of reproducing tribble-ish Easter eggs inside of it. Unless you’ve got ESP powers on the level of Dr. Elizabeth Dehner, there’s no way you caught all of these.
Cardassian ships
The episode has a cold-open on some kind of prison inside of an asteroid field. This is surrounded by two kinds of Cardassian ships, the Galor-class and the smaller Hideki-class scout ships.
“The Keep Showing Me Lights”
Hologram Boimler says the Cardassians “keep showing me lights.” This line, and the existence of the secret Cardassian facility references the famous Next Generation two-parter, “Chain of Command,” in which Picard was kidnapped and tortured by the Cardassians. If you somehow haven’t seen that episode, the whole idea is that the Cardassians try to gaslight Picard into thinking there are five lights in front of him when there are only four. Lower Decks referenced “Chain of Command” in Season 1, too! In Season 1, Episode 7, “Much Ado About Boimler,” Mariner joked about the Cerritos getting a “Babysitter Jellico-type,” for a subsitute captain, which referenced the temporary captain the Enterprise got in “Chain of Command.” Freeman, Shaxs and Ransom whore the all-black special ops outfits in that episode, too, and Tendi did the same in “Veritas.”
Too Many Ships to Count
As Mariner escapes from the Cardassian facility, there are soooo many ships being stored in this particular hanger. It’s all the ships. Here’s just a few we caught
A Federation runabout
Jem’Hadar fighters
A Nemesis-era Romulan warbird
An old school Romulan Bird-of-Prey from TOS
Federation fighter craft (like the ones seen in TNG’s “Preemptive Strike.”)
And many, many more.
Miranda-class USS MacDuff
Mariner steals a Miranda-class Federation starship with the registry NCC-1877, and the name “USS MacDuff.” There’s a lot going on here.
The Miranda-class was first seen in The Wrath of Khan, in the form of the USS Reliant. That film also featured someone stealing a ship like this with ease.
The bridge for this ship is basically identical to the Reliant.
Lower Decks showrunner Mike McMahan said in 2020 that he was inspired by the Reliant for the design of the Cerritos.
The name “MacDuff” might reference the TNG character, Kieran MacDuff, from the episode “Conundrum.” In that one, the crew has temporary amnesia and MacDuff manipulates them into fighting a war they’re not supposed to be involved in.
Jennifer
Jennifer is back! Mariner is interrupted during her holographic work-out by Jennifer, an Andorian crewmember from last season. In the Season 1 finale, “No Small Parts,” Mariner runs through the halls and pushes this character out of the way, saying, “Move Jennifer.” As far as we know, Jennifer is the only Andorian named Jennifer, but you really have to wonder, was this an Andorian name, or a human name?
“I know we’re not supposed to have interpersonal conflict”
Mariner’s dislike of Jennifer is punctuated by her talking to herself saying, “I know we’re not supposed to have interpersonal conflict…but I really hate that Andorian.” This references a long-standing rule from the TNG–era of Trek TV; that Starfleet officers weren’t supposed to have petty differences with each other. This rule was apparently implemented by Gene Roddenberry and drove several writers, including Ron Moore and Jeri Taylor, nuts.
Slightly new opening-credits
In Season 1, we saw the Cerritos running away from a battle involving a bunch of Borg cubes and Romulan Warbirds. Now, that same battle includes a Pakled ship from the Season 1 finale, a few Klingon Birds-of-Prey, and seemingly, fewer Borg.
Fred Tatasciore’s name in the credits?
Although Shaxs died in the Season 1 finale, Fred Tatasciore’s name appears in the opening credits…hmmmwill this ever be explained?
Rutherford’s date with Ensign Barnes
“Strange Energies” directly parallels the 2020 Season 1 debut, “Second Contact,” in several ways. The crew is involved with a second contact mission that goes horribly wrong and Rutherford starts dating Barnes for the “first” time. In the Season 1 finale, Rutherford lost his memory, which is why his relationship with Barnes seems new to him. This is why Mariner says “that sounds familiar.”
Hating pears…a Doctor Who reference?
Tendi is concerned that Rutherford used to hate pears, but now he doesn’t. This is possibly incorrect, but this could be a Doctor Who reference. In the Doctor Who episodes “Human Nature,” “Twice Upon a Time,” and “Hell Bent,” the Doctor (both David Tennant and Peter Capaldi) mention hating pears. In fact, in “Human Nature,” when the Doctor’s memory is erased, he asks Martha Jones to “never let me eat a pear.”
Sonic power washing
“Sonic showers” have long been a thing in the Star Trek universe, making their debut in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. But, we’ve never seen sonic power-washers before!
“Ever heard of Gary Mitchell”
Ransom’s possession is very much a tribute to Gary Mitchell’s god-like powers in the second TOS pilot episode “Where No Man Has Gone Before.” Dr. T’ana’s insistence that Kirk beat Gary Mitchell with a “boulder” is accurate. For whatever reason, the very first canonical Kirk-adventure ever, established that rock beats god-like powers any day of the week. It should also be noted that Mariner referenced Gary Mitchell in the first episode of Season 1, too.
Possible Harlan Ellison reference?
While Ransom is starting to work out, you can briefly hear him say, “The trick isn’t becoming a God. The trick is staying a God.” This could be a reference to the axiom attributed to Harlan Ellison: “The trick isn’t becoming a writer. The trick is staying a writer.” Ellison wrote “The City on the Edge of Forever,” for TOS. In Star Trek: Picard Season 1, Soji traveled on a ship called the Ellison, which Michael Chabon revealed was an Easter egg meant to reference Harlan Ellison. So, you never know?
“The Trick isn’t becoming a god, the Trick is staying a god”
Harlan Ellison reference?
Ransom on the Mount
Mariner says that Jack is “going all Ransom on the Mount.” This almost certainly references a hilarious fan video called “Shatner on the Mount,” in which a group called Fall On Your Sword remixed a behind-the-scenes interview with William Shatner (promoting Star Trek V: The Final Frontier) into a hilarious kind of talking-rap song. It has to be seen to be believed.
Giant God Head
A giant God head coming out to grab a starship might seem silly, but there are several precedents for this kind of thing in Trek canon. In the TOS episode “Who Mourns For Adonais?” a giant green hand grabs the Enterprise, which is later revealed to be the hand of the god Apollo. In the TNG episode “The Nth Degree,” the giant head of a Cytherian finds its way onto the Enterprise-D bridge. And, of course, in The Final Frontier, the crew meets “the God of Sha Ka Ree” which also, is a giant floating head.
My older sister got a symbiont
Barnes and Rutherford joke around that her Trill sister has a symbiont, but she doesn’t. This references the idea that not all Trill are joined, which was established in both TNG and Deep Space Nine.
Cetacean ops
Barnes mentions going swimming in “Cetacean ops,” a part of the USS Cerritos that we’ve never seen, but we have to assume has something to do with sea creatures. This is the second time Lower Decks has referenced Cetacean ops, which itself derives from an overheard line in TNG’s “Yesterday’s Enterprise.” Again, with yet another parallel to its Season 1 debut, “Cetacean ops” was last referenced by Lower Decks in Season 1, Episode 1, “Second Contact.”
“LDS thing”
Rutherford incorrectly refers to SMD as “LDS.” This references a few things. First, for most fans, the official abbreviation of Lower Decks is LDS. But, that abbreviation also references a joke from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home in which Kirk incorrectly refers to the drug “LSD” as “LDS,” saying that Spock “did a little bit too much LDS back in the ‘60s.”
Nightengale Woman
At the end of the episode, Stevens tells Ransom he’s going to read him “Nightengale Woman.” This too is a reference to “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” which Gary Mitchell quotes from the poem “Nitengale Woman,” from memory. In Trek canon, the poem was written in 1996 on “the Canopus Planet.” In real life, the poem was written by Gene Roddenberry, who originally wrote part of the poem to describe flying a plane.
Riker’s jam session
As the final moments of the episode cut back to the USS Titan, Captain Riker says “This jam session has too many licks and not enough counts.” In jazz, a “lick” refers to a pattern or musical phrase which is predetermined, but open to interpretation. Usually, a lick could result in a long jazz solo.  A “count” on the other hand, is more about the beat and form of a piece of music. Riker’s obsession with jazz began in the TNG episode “11001001.” In the season finale of Lower Decks Season 1, Riker’s catchphrase for sending the Titan into warp was a jazz count.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Lower Decks Season 2 airs new episodes on Paramount+ on Thursdays.

After reading a lot of fics and imagines, I decided to write and post something about my Oc and Reno during the events of Before Crisis 😊
Hope you like it! And I’m sorry if Reno is out of character and if there’re mistakes, english isn’t my first language.
Pairing: Reno x Oc (Neila)
Warnings: swearing, blood, torture, mentions of dead.
Word count : 3024
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The deafening sound that was being made by the chopper’s propeller didn’t give a chance to strike up a conversation. The long ride to the proximities of Nibelheim was spent in complete silence between the two Turks and the SOLDIER. It wasn’t uncommon during war times that the brute-strength from SOLDIER and the slyly approach, a Turk’s trait, were paired up when required. Although the built-up rivalry between the two sections could be almost touched.
Tseng ,on one of the two pilot seats, never took part in these meaningless arguments. He thought both divides had their purposes to benefit Shinra interests. The Turks were more suitable for works which didn’t need a straight strike like  SOLDIERs were. Of course they had to deal with more or less undesirable tasks but Turks were more refined than that.
However Reno at his left, on the other pilot seat was everything a Turk shouldn’t be. He had got a big mouth, usually tried to pick up fights with SOLDIERs, with obnoxious ways of doing missions but he was good accomplishing them nevertheless. Tseng had to give that to him.
On the other hand was Neila, a second-class SOLDIER,  at the back of the chopper. Tseng had scouted her some years prior in Junon, dragging her out of that fortified  town straight to the SOLDIER tests. He had seen potential into that teenage girl, which soon was proved. She had a way with magic and an extraordinary stamina. Perhaps she didn’t demonstrate a powerful brute force or strength as most SOLDIERs did, but in reality she had got it after all those mako baths and trainings. Neila had trained her ass to where she was standing.
The ride could have been worse if the airscrew hadn’t plunged the snarky remarks of Reno about the unnecessary presence of a SOLDIER around.
Tseng just became lost into some mission reports or files just after Reno had taken the helicopter off, , whilst Neila had brought some book with her to read at the back seats calmly.
After almost six hours of riding, Tseng took control of the chopper. “The last sighting of Hideki was of him heading to the mountains. Some trail must have been left behind. Find him and recover the files he has stolen. Then put them back into the Shinra Manor” He repeated the main parts of their mission..
“Gotcha.” Reno confirmed, stepping to the doors, while Neila gave just a nod as acknowledge.
“Don’t get yourselves into fights. Discretion, Reno!” Tseng called the red-haired Turk out.” is a must.” He still didn’t understand why Veld had chosen him for this mission. Other Turks would have been more suitable for this task, but Veld suspected Avalanche had something to do with it. Furthermore, the stolen goods were important classified op about secret experiments, which had been made years ago. He guessed the third in command Turk was the best option at his boss’ eyes.
Tseng would retreat to Rocket Town, something about another mission of his, where he would wait till Reno notified him theirs was complete.
Jumping off, Reno and Neila fell over the rocky floor. Fresh and clean air filled their nostrils rapidly. They had landed far from the village, in the mountain chains surrounding it.
Neila tensed up the same moment her feet touched the field. An odd grieving feeling started to overwhelm her, with a rhythmic pounding, beating softly at the sides of her head. She assumed the lack of rest was the reason behind it.
A sour grimace appeared upon Reno’s face. He hated the countryside with all of his being. He had grown up in the slums, used to the mako steam filling the air, and although he was the first one to say the slums were garbage, Midgar felt like home, and all that rural areas with its nature and clean air sickened him.
“ Let’s finish this fucking shit as soon as possible “ Reno said, pocketing out a cigarette, and lighting it up. Both of them strode up the hills, scouting the fields for any signs of Hideki.
“You know smoking is bad for your health, right?” Neila spoke once she kneeled down before some footsteps. The headache fading away with each step they took farther.
“ And what?” He retorted after her irritated. She had seen him smoking several times before, often hanging out after a long day at work. What has gotten into her now?
“ Nothing, just that is bad, I doubt Veld approves his Turks ruining their health. “ She turned her head to look at him.
“ Lucky for you,  Veld doesn’t have a say about it.” He puffed on his cigar slowly, as a silent challenge.
“ It’s a bad addiction. Just saying.” She wasn’t that fond of  his harsh attitude, which intimidated and annoyed her.
“ There are worse addictions. I’ll die first working than from smoking, sweetheart. But your concern touched me.” Sarcasm in his voice, irritating Neila more. “Besides, you’re one to talk.” A SOLDIER trying to lecture him about bad addictions. He felt the urge of laughing at the occurrence.
“ Suit yourself then.” She gave up about having a civilised conversation with the Turk. “ These footsteps… Hideki must have climbed up to the top. What do you think?”
Reno kneeled besides her frame, invading her personal space and inspecting the trail. “ What a dimwit.” His cerulean eyes following the tracks ahead them.
“ Excuse me?” Neila frowned at his words, and stood up on her feet again, glaring at him amazed.  The warmth his figure let off had felt so good against her bare arms.
Reno started to stride up the path, leaving her behind. “ If he’s gonna steal from Shinra, at least he could have tried not to let a sloppy trail of footsteps. Not that I’m complaining though.” He wasn’t, he rather wanted to be back in Midgar soon, but he also liked some type of challenge, not something this… simple.
“ If you say so… Well, this way we’ll finish the mission in a record time.”
“ Don’t get your hopes up, sweetheart. These mountains are full of monsters who have been living between mako residues for years. It will be a miracle if Hideki has not been devoured by those freaks yet. “
“ That’s why I’ve been deployed too? Because there are mako-contaminated monsters roaming around?” Neila guessed.
Reno didn’t answer her, and just keep on going up to the peak of the mountain, following Hideki’s clues.
“ Now that I think about it. Does Hideki have anything to do with Wutai?” Neila asked again with curiosity. Brilliant mako eyes searching for the named man around the caves and boulders in their path.
“ If I tell ya, I’ll have to kill ya.” A cocky smirk curled up his lips, shooting a side glare to the SOLDIER, while he threw the cigarette and stepped on it.
“ You wouldn’t, not that you could anyway.” A loud laugh burst from him, who bent forward slightly, pulling a hand on his chest. “ What’s so funny?”
“ Oh, sweetheart, I would, but not before enjoying other things first.” He sent a playful wink towards her, hidden intentions not that well hidden. The attraction between them wasn’t a secret though.
“ In your dreams Reno.” Neila answered back, folding her arms and rolling her eyes.
“ Have already done that yo.” Playfulness splattered upon all his features, and enjoying the blushing and embarrassment creeping Neila up.
They were reaching the top without any unpleasant encounters, yet. Maybe Reno was right, and Hideki had already been eaten up.
“ I know you’re joking, cut it off.” She ended the talk, ashamed. She would be lying if she said she didn’t think about it before. Even if Reno was insufferable most of the time, he still was attractive with his flashy red hair, blue eyes and those red marks, and without saying his strange selection of customized uniform. And his personality was tempting too, although it pushed her buttons too many times.
“Oh? You are ashamed now? A strong SOLDIER like you? “ He carried his ironic remarks on, making her still more uncomfortable.
“ I’m gonna make you swallow that rod of yours unless you shut up.” He was driving her up the wall.
“ I would like to see ya trying to do it. “ The joking end up abruptly when a cry out for help crossed the air. Both of them ran up the last steps till the top, being welcomed by a hideous scene.
There was their target, surrounded by a group of what looked like a four mutated praying mantis. Mako influence for sure. A leg and an arm had been ripped off from his body, blood gathering on the rocky land beside him.
The bugs must have come across the man shortly before them. Unless they finished the monsters off, Hideki would be eaten and no options of getting information from him would be possible.
Jumping out to action, Reno took his electric rod out, and Neila her sword. Although the mantis weren’t that many, the mako running through their organisms, made them stronger, and a  pain in the ass.
If Neila remembered right from previous encounters, Mantis’ weak point was ice magic. “ Reno, back off!” She yelled out, while she gently caressed the green materia placed inside her left bracelet’s gauge.
The Turk was about to retort at her, but with his characteristic speed, he retreated back after noticing her intentions.
The ice magic flew straight across the battlefield, hitting and freezing three of them.
Now getting rid of the mantis should be a piece of cake.  With three frozen-up, the remaining  one didn’t stand a single chance.
Lightning trails were drawn around the frozen monsters, followed by unpleasant cries in pain, which would have caused your ears to start bleeding. In the blink of an eye, Reno had wipe those things out with just one strike.
“Man, I hate the bug-type monsters, I really do.” Neila murmured after taking care of the last one at Hideki’s foot. Her standard SOLDIER sword deeply impaled in its thorax, and some type of purplish blood splashed on her uniform.
“ Well now, now… What do we have here?” Reno walked slowly, watching the almost limbless man laying down in agony. The facade he had showed previously around her, was replaced by a sadistic and cruel one, sending goosebumps down her spine.
The SOLDIER wasn’t unaware of the inhuman things the Turks did, but she had never got the opportunity to witness one yet.
Realization shone in the dark eyes of Hideki. “ A-a Turk!” stuttering, he dragged himself as far as he was able from Reno. “ Please! I didn’t do anything!”
“ Of course you would say that, wouldn’t ya?”  Reno stepped onto Hideki’s stomach, pinning him down with force, not letting him more room to scape, or keep dragging on. “Now about the files you’ve stolen...Do you still have them on you or did you already give them away?
“ Reno, he’s lost too much blood. He won't…” Neila tried to say watching carefully the blood ponds.
“ Please have mercy! I didn’t give nothing away! “ The man yelled, air leaving his lungs in short breaths. He didn’t have much time left.
“Oh? So you still have them. “ Reno checked inside Hideki’s backpack, finding some type of old books and folders. “Who’s your contact?”
Neila was speechless with the scene in front of her. Their target was crying and shouting due to an unbearable pain, his blood still blooming from his open cuts and lost limbs. And Reno was interrogating him not caring about his poor and bloody status.
She had also done unnamed acts in her missions during the war time, but her work never consisted in torturing like this.
“I don’t have a contact!”
Reno chuckled before positioning his electric rod upon the man’s throat, as a silent threat. “ I’ll ask again idiot. Who’s your contact?”
“Please!” an electric wave went across the injured body, more screams of pain could be heard, but soon were vanished amongst the rocky walls of the tallest mountains.
“Did ya change your mind? Or should I keep playing with you? Long time I don’t electrocute someone, I’ll be sure of making the most of it.” The Turk was smiling pleased with the sight of the man shouting.
“Fujito! It’s Fujito!” Hideki answered. Fear could be read on his face.
“Where?”  Reno pressed more the bar against his skin.
“In the nearness of Wutai! Please I don’t know more, let me go!”
A sigh escaped Reno’s mouth while he was dialing Tseng, who picked up instantly. He told Tseng all the information obtained, and after a brief minutes and a nod, Reno pocketed back his phone.
Tseng must have given him directions.
“ Not that you would be able to reach that far… “ With a last look at Hideki, Reno stepped off of him, and walked back down the slope. “Come on sweetheart, we still have work to finish with. “ A gesture with his left hand told her it was the time to continue.
Neila ran behind him, words caught in her throat, unable to bring them up. Some things couldn’t be approved, but work was work, and they had to do it.
The flirtatious and cocky facade had been back on Reno’s face during the long rambling to Nibelheim. Several encounters with monsters slowed their descent.  Even though the mission had started rather earlier in the morning, when the sun hadn’t risen down yet, it was almost nightfall when they reached the village.
“ I guess we’ll have to leave things for today, don’t ya think?”
“ Probably.” The headache had returned with every step they took. Not that it wouldn’t let her fight or keep with the mission, but it was getting tiresome now.
“I’ll notify Tseng, go ahead babe.” Reno stood outside the inn while Neila entered to ask for the room keys. The owner would be kinder to her in her second class SOLDIER uniform than to Reno with his characteristic and recognisable black suit.
“ It was about time a SOLDIER was sent here to clean up the surroundings crawling with beasts.” The owner greeted her with a smile.
“ Yeah, well… “ Shyness taking the best of her. She was awful at talking with strangers.
“ Shinra booked two chambers, I guess those are yours. “ Veld must have taken care of it. The girl nodded, uncomfortable. “ Here you are. If you’re gonna clean the place, you’re gonna need a place to rest.” the keys were put on the wooden counter.
“Thank you.” Taking the keys, she was ready to head up to the chambers, but Reno shuffled himself inside the inn, greeting the owner, whose face changed to a grimace of disgust.
The Turks weren’t well welcomed here either.
“ I’m exhausted sweetheart, we should go to bed. “ his arm over her shoulders, guiding her upstairs.
“ Your key.” Neila offered the object to Reno. “ And please, hands off of me.”
“ You’re hurting me.” A false expression of pain crossed Reno face, while he grab the key, but still refused to let her go. “ Acting all tough as if you don’t want it.” mockery present in his tone.
“ That’s because…”
“Don’t you dare lying to me. I’m not blind, nor I’m a fool. We’ve been toying with each other for a while.” He cut her off after a chuckle. Reno was starting to get tired of this shit. Fooling around was okay for a bit, but not for that long.
“ And? You’ve got a problem with it?” swallowing the shyness, she was able to answer him. She wasn’t used to flirting , let alone a straightforward confrontation like this. For Bahamut, she had never had anything with anyone. When she was still a teenager Tseng had brought  her along to Midgar as a SOLDIER candidate. All of that romantic stuff was new for her.
“ Don’t ya think it’s enough?” Reno had dragged her in front of him, holding her still with his hands on her shoulders, and leaned forward, blue eyes focused on hers.
“ I doubt the corridor is the best place to discuss anything Reno.” tearing apart her gaze to the side.
“ You’re a tease.”  Reno might have been a sadistic, and might have done inexcusable things during his career, but forcing a woman was out of the question. There were some boundaries that couldn’t be crossed.
“ It’s just that… I’ve never…” She whispered, ashamed.
“ Ya know that I know, don’t ya?”  He had thought she wouldn’t have been that idiot to believe  that he hadn’t caught that she was inexperienced. He was a Turk for Bahamut's shake, he had been trained to pick up into people’s traits. Besides, her clumsy acts and nervous reactions at his flirting, demonstrated her innocence, anyone with two eyes would have caught it in a jiffy.
The surprise in her features said otherwise. He let out an exasperated sigh, and released her shoulders, letting her free of his grip.It wasn’t that he was going to give up, but until she had made up her mind, he wouldn’t make a move “ It’s late and we still have a long day tomorrow. A comfy bed is waiting for us so… see ya tomorrow’s morning sweetheart. “ Giving her one of his signature smiles and shuffled to his assigned chamber.
Neila bit her lip, thoughts racing across her mind, but walked behind him and tugged his clothed arm, turning him to face her.
His mouth slightly opened of surprise at the sudden movement she had done. This time Neila was the one leaning forward to him, her eyes sparkling with resolution.
Well, it looked like she had already made her mind up. In the blink of an eye, Reno shortened the distance till their lips meet into a sweet and naive kiss briefly.
Once they broke apart, the smug smirk made its way back to Reno’s lips. “ See? It wasn’t that difficult.”
“ You can’t have you mouth shut, can you?” blush drawing onto her cheeks, but her eyes were glittering more than normal.
Reno let out a laugh, and bit his tongue to avoid saying a snarky remark before leaning down to meet her lips back again, this time into a more passionate and long kiss. After all, they’ve been playing around for weeks, it was about time.

Voltage Inc characters as strange things I do (Headcanons)
Jin Namba: Doesn't understand the lyrics of the song until searching for the lyrics. This man can be fluent in as many languages as he wants. However, this is true even for his native language. He can't get the entire meaning of the song until seeing all the lyrics at once.
Hideki Ishigami: Laughs in his sleep. No, Ishigami doesn't sleep talk. It would be okay if he did. However, from time to time, he laughs, not giggles, but hearty laughs. And when MC asks him what's so funny in the morning, he has no idea. Sometimes, he wakes up due to his laugh but still doesn't remember why.
Hyogo Kaga: Doesn't own Winter clothes. He probably does, but he hasn't worn any of them in ages. There's a more chance he will put on two warm t-shirts instead of a jacket. The strangest thing is that his hands are always hot.
Shusuke Soma: Goes for a walk in the middle of the night. He finds it comforting to be alone at night, thinking about his things and getting something random from the convenience store. Sometimes he gets MC with him, and they share deep conversations while walking through the city.
Takaomi Tsugaru: Sleeps under the bed during hot Summers. And if MC asks him why he doesn't use a futon, he will say that the bedframe gives shadow and makes it chillier than a futon. The question that everyone has when seeing him like this is: HOW THE HECK HE FITS IN THERE?
Seiji Goto: Asks MC to hug him while he tries to put the duvet cover on. Do you know when you have your hands on the corners of the cover before putting it on the duvet? That's when he asks MC to hug him because it adds extra softness.
Ayumu Shinonome: Buys chips, Kinder eggs, etc., if they have dinosaurs as prizes. Then, he gets an entire reserve of these. However, he is interested more in the dinos than in the food. Moreover, he can find ways to know what dino he will get without opening the package.
Toru Kurosawa: He watches YouTube videos about food when hungry. Everyone thinks it's pointless, but that's his way of fulfilling his cravings. While doing this, he will say at least twice: "I want to eat cake. I want some barbeque," or whatever he is watching.
Yukihisa Maki: Knows the plot of books/manga/movies without reading or watching them, even if he plans to do it later. He doesn't care about spoilers. He likes the process of reading more than its result.
Shunichiro Tachibana: He can do a strange amount of things due to extracurricular activities in his childhood and teenage years. He probably, plays at least three instruments, can draw, horse-ride, dances ballet, solves math and physics problems for fun, etc.
Jun Araki: Has the most monotonous voice ever. MC or Rei at least once asked him to read smut. Both of them have the recording saved because it sounds like he is reading the Bible. He won't even chuckle at the strange things that happen there.
Toshiaki Kijima: Zones out while making coffee or tea. He's that annoying person who keeps mixing the sugar/coffee in the cup for entire minutes till everyone asks him to stop, just because he zones out while making it. Also, he looks at his already prepared coffee/tea as if it has spawned out of nowhere before starting to drink it.
Toma Kiriya: Listens to sad songs every time. Ask what's his comfort song, and he will probably say something about death/suicide/addiction. When he's happy, he also listens to them. His playlist is enormous. However, less than 15% are joyful.
Nasume Asaoka: Watches the same shows/movies/videos over and over again. It's not as if he doesn't enjoy new things, he does. However, he finds more comfort in watching a funny video from YouTube over and over instead of finding anything new. And there are probably movies that he watches yearly, not getting tired of them.
Ikki Tatsumi: Has to have the coverlet perfectly put on the bed. If he feels or sees any wrinkles, he will get up and ask everyone who stays on the bed to get up and will redo the whole thing.
Ukyo Senkawa: "It's five minutes away," Ukyo says and starts walking at 7 km/h. He can make 30 000 steps a day as if it's nothing. Also, he forgets that not all people can do the same or keep up with him. There are only two ways of catching up with him: run fast after him, or call him to ask him to stop.
Daimon Togo: Can't let himself feel sick if someone feels sicker. He may be on the verge of fainting. Yet, if he sees MC or his family in distress, he will do everything possible to be the "healthiest" one. Even if the world gets blank in front of his eyes, he will be the one to catch MC while fainting.
Kunihiro Kasai: If he is sleepy but has a lot of things to finish, he puts a video or music on and naps like this, sometimes with his laptop on his lap, because he doesn't sleep deep like this and can wake up any moment.
Kuranosuke Kiba: He repairs the things in the house just for fun. Like, what's the worst thing that this can end up with? An even more destroyed thing? So, after years of doing this, Kuranosuke is a master of using a screwdriver.
Eiji Takao: Answers to questions with delay. MC or the twins can come to him and ask: "Did you see the remote control?" And he will be dead silent while writing something on his laptop. Ten minutes later, he will say: "The remote is on the window sill."
Shu Hasunuma: Has the dumbest dreams ever. Everyone close to him knows that all the memes about strange dreams are about him. He was a frying pan, had a pet penis, saved his colleagues from getting eaten by zombies, watched entire inexistent movies, and invented new words and historical events in his dreams (that's a short list of dreams I have had during my life).
Toshiki Kasumi: He knows an incredible amount of strange facts. Hosho will talk about wedding bands, and Kasumi will be like: "Do you know how holly water is made?" He is why the EICU knows what "defenestration" means, that there's a possibility higher than 0 to walk through an intact wall etc.
Munechika Takado: Ignores the messages he doesn't think are worth answering. It's not as if all the messages he ignores aren't worth answering. Sometimes, Takado doesn't have enough time or doesn't know how to continue the conversation. However, if people ask annoying questions, like his sister constantly asking when he comes back home, he will ignore them.
Taro Akuchi: Can't sleep if someone else is awake. He probably can sleep everywhere, but not when the people he cares about (MC and Suzumu) are awake. That's the same when he wakes up. Taro isn't comfortable knowing that he is resting while others aren't.
Suzumu Mado: Talks everyone's ears off about how much he craves something, then doesn't buy it because it's too expensive. The person he is shopping with begs him to indulge his cravings, but he is too stingy for this.

Given the history of Resident Evil and how it birthed Devil May Cry, I just wish we had some kinda cross over where RE4′s version of Leon and Dante would meet and have it be like that spiderman pointing meme.
For those unaware. Hideki Kamiya wanted to do something really different for Resident Evil. But it was so out there that it ended up just becoming its own game with Devil May Cry. Resident Evil 4 went through quite a few different ideas before we got it. This strange development process ended up giving us probably the best Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. But this is also probably why Dante and Leon look so freaking similar. Or how in Resident Evil 4 there’s still some gems of goofy bits that SCREAM something Dante would do.

A Strange Arrangement
A Strange Arrangement
Hideki sighed in content as he watched the whipped cream he was making double in size in the stand mixer.
There really wasn’t anything quite like the feeling of success at seeing a technique work out just like you practiced it.
“Alright, soon as this is whipped, I’ll get it into the cake and-”
There was a tugging on his apron, causing him to jump. He looked down to see Ken was giving him a puppy eyed look, tugging again on it.
“What’s up, Shark Pup?”
Ken smiled, jumping back.
“Can you make me a lunch?”
“Like, to eat here or a bento? And for that matter, why? I thought you already ate.”
Ken sighed, giving him a kicked look.
“I shared my lunch with my friends. I’m gonna be hungry real soon… Pleeeaaase?”
Hideki glanced at his mixer, checking the consistency of the whipped cream. Fluffy and nearly coming out of the bowl, just how he liked it.
“Maybe later. I need to finish my roll cake. If you’re patient, I’ll put a piece in there.”
Ken perked up, letting out a little gasp.
“Really? Can you put two?”
Hideki gave him a curious look, getting his roll cake set out on the counter and spreading the filling out atop it.
“This is really rich. It’s chocolate with strawberries and I’m gonna cover it with a ganache before freezing it. You’ll get a tummy ache on two.”
“I won’t! The other piece isn’t for me.” Ken put both his hands together, giving another pout… throwing in a whimper for effect. “Pleeeaaase?”
Hideki flinched, trying not to make eye contact. He knew that look. He had become very accustomed to it.
“Ken, please don’t make that face.”
“Pretty please?”
“Ken, who are you even hanging out with? You know you can’t feed chocolate to the dog.”
Okami, as if understanding this, let out a loud whine. Hideki rolled his eyes.
“She’s a really good friend of mine from school.” It wasn’t a lie, Ayami was waiting for him outside and he wanted to share a snack with her. “We’re going on a big hike.”
“I don’t remember hearing you talk about this friend before. Which one?”
“Her name’s Ayami.”
Hideki hummed in thought. He remembered seeing a few kids playing with Ken during park trips but never anyone by that name.
“Ayami, huh?”
He nodded, bouncing on his heels a little, leaning up to watch his big brother work. Hideki’s hands were fast as always, rolling the cake up carefully but securely before sliding it into the fridge. He moved to the stove, starting to melt chocolate together with heavy cream.
“So, can I have it? Please?”
“How long are you gonna be gone? Did you tell Dad or Mom?”
“I’ll tell them in a bit, but Mommy would just go “You have food at home, you two can eat here.” and… they don’t know Ayami’s mommy.” Ken pouted.
Hidei nodded, very familiar with that rule. He grew up with it from Aika and Daisuke. Before the age of ten, no friends were allowed in the house unless they talked to their parents first.
“Well, why not ask her to bring her mom over then? She’s gotta anyways if she’s being dropped off, right?”
Ken went very quiet at this, biting his lip.
“... Ken?” Hideki narrowed his eyes. “I’m not helping you keep a secret.”
“But it’s an important one…” Ken looked down at his shoes. “I promised.”
Hideki sighed a little. He knew that all too well. He wasn’t comfortable keeping secrets like this though. Especially if it went against their parents’ rules.
Sure, he’d gladly sneak the kid an extra cookie or stay up an hour later than he said because his favorite show was on… but when it came to going off alone, or rather, anything involving Ken’s well being after the nightmare incident, he wasn’t comfortable with that.
“Ken…” He looked up from his cooking, meeting his eyes. “I want to respect your wishes but I’m not gonna keep secrets from Mom and Dad. That’s not my thing.”
Ken looked down, breaking eye contact.
“Ayami’s not normal though.”
“Is she like you? Or like me?”
“.... She’s…” Ken mumbled something, looking away from Hideki. The teenager frowned, raising an eyebrow.
“Pardon?”
Ken smiled sheepishly, guilt in his eyes.
“She’s a ghost.”
Hideki’s eyes widened before he put a hand to his face.
“Keeennny, why didn’t you just start with that!?”
“Ehehe?” Ken kicked at the floor a little. “She’s not like a regular one though. She’s a Ghost Guardian… You know what those are, right?”
“Yeah, of course. Ghost kids who stay behind and work under Lady Phantova as her warriors against the undead.” Hideki took his pot off the stove, pouring it over the cake before shoving the entire thing into the freezer. “So, that’s who your little friend is, huh?”
“Ahuh… You see why I can’t just go “Bring your mom over.” since her mom is y’know...a GODDESS!?”
Hideki nodded, wincing a little.
“Yeah… I can imagine. At least tell Dad since I think he’d be more okay with this.”
“I’ll tell him later, Ayami’s waitin’ and I can’t cook.”
Hideki sighed, lowering his head.
“Okay, but just this once. I mean it bub.” He gave Ken a stern look. “And if you don’t tell, I will. This is not gonna be like your bad dreams. Okay?”
Ken nodded.
Hideki sighed before getting started on a relatively simple lunch, making sure there was enough for two.
“And if she offers you ghost fruit, you don’t eat it until you tell the folks. Alright?”
“Okay. Why?”
“I heard it doesn’t wear off that fast and you don’t wanna scare them with thinking you died and came back to pretend all was normal.”
Ken’s eyes widened before he nodded.
“Got it…. And Hideki?”
“Hm?”
Ken hugged him tightly.
“I love you.”
Hideki smiled softly.
“Love you too, Shark Pup.”
Things just keep getting interesting don’t they?
Honestly though, might be just the thing he needs to practice those gifts. He’s gonna see worse things than making a friend out of a dead kid.
It wasn’t long before Hideki saw Ken off, the little boy running off as he joined Ayami’s side. The ghost girl looked over her shoulder at him, giving him a thumbs up.
“Be careful.” He looked down at Okami, the dog giving a huff of annoyance. “What’s her issue?”
“It’s hard for her to keep up.” Ken frowned a little. “Okami, stay-”
The large dog bolted to his side, whining.
“Alright, alright. C’mon!”
“Be safe you two.” He waved, before the kids started to walk off… Only to jump when Hideki let out a yelp.
They looked back, seeing Eiji was standing right behind Hideki. The man raised an eyebrow, motioning with his finger for them to come back.
“... Uh oh.”
Ken gulped, hurrying back over, as Eiji knelt to his level.
“Am I in trouble?”
Eiji held up a finger, taking off his reading glasses.
“Not yet.” He gave a firm look. “First, I heard about half of what was going on in the kitchen. I was grading papers in the living room.”
Hideki winced.
“Frick…”
“You’re not in trouble. Like I said - not yet.” He gave Ken in particular a stern look. “Ken, can I finally meet your friend properly?”
“You knew!?” Ken yelped.
Eiji shrugged a little.
“I played with Ghost Guardians when I was little too. Kind of not a surprise to me, that you’d make friends with them too.” He was nostalgic as he looked Ayami over, nodding as he recognized the armor style. “Yup, the real deal… Which is why I’m not mad. But Ken, you should never be worried about this stuff, like I told you before - you can tell us anything and we won’t be mad.”
“Even if I tried to keep another secret?”
Ayami hurried over.
“It was my fault.” She insisted. “Please don’t be mad at Ken.”
Eiji looked at her, giving her a gentle look.
“I’m not mad. Like I said, I just want to know what my kids are getting up to. The woods aren’t entirely safe but if he’s got a friend like you, I think I can trust he’ll be alright… but I do want to at some point meet with your mother. Is that alright?”
Ayami nodded quickly.
“Frannie wouldn’t mind. If you played with us Ghost Guardians before then you’d know her too, right?”
“Yeah but it’s been about twenty years, give or take.” Eiji patted their heads. “But, no more of these little secrets, okay?”
“Okay!”
“Good… and Ken?”
“Huh?”
Eiji kissed his head.
“Be good and be safe.”
Ken smiled, hugging him tightly, relieved he wasn’t in trouble.
“Thank you, Daddy. I love you!” He grabbed Ayami’s hand as they ran off, Okami chasing after the children. “C’mon Aya!”
“Eep!”
Hideki and Eiji watched them go, before Eiji sighed a little.
“She’s so tiny…”
Hideki looked up at him.
“How young do you think she was?”
“Given I’ve seen Ken playing with someone I couldn’t see since he was about 4? I’d imagine she was five. She’s presenting herself as six right now but she’s still learning. Could be awhile before she decides her final age so to speak.” Eiji sighed. “Makes me just sad for her parents, if they were good ones.”
Hideki looked back to where they had gone.
“If they were anything like mine, they’d just be happy she has a life somewhere. Even if it’s just her afterlife.”
“Yeah… Welp, guess this means we might have a deity dropping in on us.” Eiji headed back inside. “I’m gonna go back sure I swept.”
“... So wait, that’s it? If Titan just showed up here, you’d be this nonchalant about it?”
“Kind of?” Eiji shrugged. “Honestly, this is just par for the course for me. I remember meeting her once when I was Ken’s age but that was twenty years ago. She probably doesn’t remember me.”
“Aww… Who could forget you?”
Eiji ruffled his hair.
“Aww shucks… Now… How about that cake eh?”
“Oh, you’re gonna love it. C’mon!”
Hideki hurried back inside, calling out for Hikaru and Carmen. Eiji looked back towards the forest, as the wind picked up around him.
The more things change… the more they stay the same.
oooooo
Ken and Okami were keeping up at a decent pace with Ayami, who was flying above them. The kids were relieved they hadn’t been in any actual trouble.
“Hey, my big brother packed a big snack enough for two people. Do you wanna share it with me?”
“Sure! When we get to a good rest spot.” She did a flip through the trees above them. “Wee!”
Ken saw a large boulder coming up. He picked up the pace, before leaping over it, forcing himself into a flip before he kept running.
“Oooo nice! You learn that recently?” She clapped a bit.
Ken grinned. The extra lessons while practicing with Chase and Eiji were paying off.
“Ahuh! Just can’t do it often.”
“Got ya…” She came to a stop, standing on a high tree branch looking around the forest. “Let’s see… Where to go…”
Ken looked around, Okami whining a bit as she nudged him along.
“Oof! Hey.”
Ayami looked down, raising an eyebrow.
“What’s up with her?”
“She smells something she doesn’t like.” Ken moved along, knowing very well that trying to go anywhere Okami deemed “danger” was a bad idea.
Ayami narrowed her eyes, looking around them, focusing on the energy of the forest.
Something was nearby but… it didn’t feel like a threat. Still, she swooped down, pulling Ken up, flying at a pace to keep up with how fast Okami was sprinting away from it.
“Oof! Hey!”
“I don’t think it’s bad but we’re not alone. Let’s not tick something off.”
“Right.” He looked behind them… He saw a bush rustle. “... Let’s get far away. Fast!”
Ayami looked behind them before using her strength to grab onto the scruff of Okami’s neck, lifting them both up.
“ARROOOOOOO!” Okami howled in alarm. She smelled it… It was close but she smelled it.
And she didn’t want it anywhere near her pup or the strange, not living pup.
“Um, Aya what are you-EEP!”
She phased them through a large brush of trees, before stopping at a large rock that had a relatively smooth surface, enough for all three of them to lay across.
“We’ll just stay here a bit.” She gave a salute. “I’ll go investigate.”
Ken frowned.
“It can’t hurt you can it?”
“Naaah. I’m already dead!” She boasted. “Nothing can hurt me!”
“Okay…”
Ayami gave a salute, before hurrying off, turning invisible. She came back to the path they had been on before, peering through the bushes and trees…
Whatever it was she had sensed and what scared Okami, was long gone now. She couldn't pick up a trace of it.
Weird… Maybe a forest spirit?
Ayami shook her head. No, that wasn’t right. It hadn’t felt dead.
The presence was alive… very much alive.
Maybe it was nothing. Probably a fox.
Still, she made note to keep close to Ken during more of these excursions if she didn’t have training.
Ayami hurried back to where Ken was waiting for her, already setting out their snack.
“Well?” He looked up, worried.
Ayami frowned.
“I couldn’t find it. It’s gone.”
“That’s good… right?”
“I think so but I’ll keep around more.” She sat on the edge of the rock, picking up a sandwich, taking a large bite out of it. “Mmm! Oooh that’s yummy! What’s in it?”
“Hideki makes this yummy sandwich spread, with veggies and cream cheese. It’s really good.” Ken smiled a little. “Aya, don’t worry, okay? I know you got my back.”
“And I intend to keep doing that.” She offered him a fist bump. “Ghost friends?”
“Not secret friends.” He nodded, bumping his fist with hers. He looked out over the forest, closing his eyes.
The forest’s energy was the same as ever but… his gut told him something else was around. He wasn’t entirely sure what it meant yet…
But he hoped it was nothing scary.
Just don’t let it hurt my family.

Coffekinoid | Nell & Hideki
tw: blood, brief mention of self-harm
Location: Coffee Plus
Characters: Nell (@https://nelllraiser.tumblr.com/) & Hideki (@https://hidekikitsune.tumblr.com/)
Summary: What was meant to be a brief battle of the wits morphed into a karkinoid cook-off, the likes of which Coffee Plus shall never witness again. ft. an interesting jacket, an overpriced cardigan, soft boi Hideki, and spicy girl Nell. Oh, and glass. Lots of glass.
It had been a moment since Penelope has come to a Coffee Plus since it was fairly close to campus, and she didn’t really have a reason to be near the campus in the first place. But sometimes she just really wanted the chocolate muffins they had here in particular, even if their desserts weren’t as popular as their beverages. Nevertheless, she was hunkered down over her muffin and mocha, all too eager to dig in when she saw a familiar face pop into the shop. Damn it, she really should have left her Amphisbaena jacket at home today, especially after it had struck Hideki’s interest the last time he saw it. But with all these karkinoids roaming around and...raining fish- she’d figured it was best to be protected.
The cold had never bothered Hideki much. What did bother him was the slush that just loved appearing to ruin his favorite shoes after the snow melted a little. He knew he should have just worn his snow boots to work today. He sighed as he tugged the door open to Coffee Plus a little stronger than he needed to. The baristas took one look at him and immediately started making his usual drink - proof that he came far too often. He went through the motions of paying for his drink and making small talk, but didn’t bother to address the feeling that someone was watching him until his americano was solidly in-hand. When he realized it was Penelope staring at him, though, he suddenly felt a surge of energy that could only come from the need to antagonize the poor soul in front of him. “Afternoon, Penelope.” He said her name with an unnecessary amount of entertainment as he slid into the seat across from her without permission. He raised a meticulously groomed eyebrow at the spread in front of her. “I never imagined you’d be one for sweets.” Hideki reached across and plucked the muffin from in front of her, though he took care to keep his fingers on the muffin liner so as not to dirty his fingers with the sweet. “Tell me… how does a girl like you get a jacket like that?”
Nell nearly groaned as Hideki slid into the chair across from her, her eyes narrowing in his direction. Though...it was mostly all in good fun. After all, it was amusing to try and ruffle his feathers in return whenever he decided to make his attempts to prey on her. “Old man, Hideki,” she commented back in as neutral a tone as possible, as if greeting an age old, but respected adversary. “Why not?” she asked, figuring there was no other choice but to take that bait if it was indeed bait. But the moment he took her muffin her eyes bugged out. Normally- she managed to pretend like she wasn’t as bothered by him, but this was crossing a line. Messing with Penelope was one thing, but messing with her food? Unacceptable. “Get your own muffin. That’s a great way to lose a finger,” she said gruffly as she reached across the table to make her attempt to snatch her muffin back. “A girl like me?” she replied indignantly. “What’s that supposed to mean? How’s an old man like you get out of bed every morning to terrorize the youth of this coffee shop? Don’t your bones creak? Nearly break when you force their tired selves out into the world?”
The girl’s ceaseless teasing had always been a bit of a treat for Hideki. He looked to be in his early thirties at the latest, but only he knew he had lived long enough for the average human lifespan already. He chuckled and let her snatch the muffin from his clutch. He rubbed the pads of his fingers with his thumb, trying to remove any remaining crumbs before crossing his arms and resting them on the table, leaning into her onslaught of questions with a perfectly amicable smile. “With such a fiery personality, I always assumed you wouldn’t have much of a sweet tooth,” he admitted with a slight shrug. “But you are absolutely correct, Penelope. My bones nearly break with every step I take in this harsh, cold world. The only warmth and joy I can ever find in my boring old man life is to steal nourishment from youths such as yourselves in this very coffee shop. It’s your own fault, really. You should have known better than to come to my hunting grounds.”
Obviously Nell knew Hideki couldn’t be much older than Bea at most, but still— it was amusing to make fun of the way he acted like he was an old man in a younger one’s body, saying the strangest things and proving himself time and time again to only have more traits she’d expect of someone much older. But as she regained her muffin she hummed pleasantly, easily placated by the re-acquirement of the little pastry. But her lips pursed in the slightest at the mention of fiery. It seemed her personality was the only part of her family’s legacy she’d inherited. Though she’d made a name for herself without the connecting link to their fire elemental tendencies, it still wasn’t exactly fun to be the odd one out. “Yeah well- human beings are very complex creatures, Hideki,” she said with the element of a tease back in her tone. Despite her attempts to always seem unamused by him, her lips still tilted up at the corners in a small grin. “I can’t imagine how hard that must be for you. Maybe you should just spare us all, and stop hunting for the sake of your rapidly decaying body.” But she snickered at the mention of hunting grounds. “Not a very good hunter when you return the food.”
Hideki snorted and leaned back in the seat of the booth, finally letting himself take the first sip of his americano. It had been far too long since he’d last had an adequate amount of caffeine coursing through his veins so it took a shameful amount of self-restraint to keep himself from downing the entire thing in front of… present company. “You have no idea how complex…” he muttered around the rim of his cup, eyes glittering with entertainment. He would always wonder at how rash young humans could be despite how delicate they were. Although, he still questioned what the woman sitting in front of him was. His eyes shamelessly scanned the details of her jacket, his recent obsession. “Well, that’s quite a good proposition to make. Perhaps, since you like bantering so much, you might be inclined to study political science at the local college. Our debate team is quite good from what I hear. I’m sure you’d have a great deal of fun as a lawyer.”
A little frown crossed over Nell’s lips, never sure what Hideki meant when he said such cryptid things. Maybe he was just being weird. Who knew? Nevertheless, she fixed him with a disapproving look as she noticed him focus in on her jacket, and she subconsciously gripped the edges of it, pulling it closer to her body in a somewhat defensive maneuver. How could he know what it was made of? He’d have to be supernatural himself. Or perhaps a Scribe? A Scribe seemed more likely, and much more Hideki’s speed. “Mmm you know it’s funny you mention that. I have considered applying recently.” She dangled the carrot for a moment, wondering if he would bite. “Would you like to know why?”
Hideki couldn’t help but lean forward on his elbows a bit, eager to hear whatever tale the young lady had decided to weave up for him this time. “Oh, please do enlighten me.” He had to resist being sarcastic, just in case she was genuine, even for a single second. That second’s pause was interrupted by the sound of shattering glass. Hideki cursed in Japanese under his breath and dove under the booth table to shield himself. He tugged not-so-gently on Nell’s arm to try and drag her under the makeshift barrier with him. “What in God’s name…?” he hissed, eyes going wide as the tiled restaurant floor echoed with the sound of strange clicks that could be heard around the other patrons’ panicked whispers.
For a moment, Nell felt the smallest bit guilty about possibly teasing Hideki. It really did seem that he was at least partially genuinely excited at the prospect of her going to college. And she didn’t need to disappoint more people in her life. So she hesitated, that pause made longer by the sudden outburst of the broken windows, and a clicking sound she thought was vaguely familiar, but couldn’t quite place. “Hey!” she exclaimed as Hideki tugged her downwards, hiding certainly never being her first instinct when it came to danger. Though...she supposed it was nice of Hideki to think of her. Still, she wasted no time in straightening herself to sneak a peek over the top of the table, a rather passionate curse of, “Fuck, god dammit,” falling from her lips as she recognized the karkinoids. “It’s the kar- the giant lobsters.” Fiddling with her clothes, she pulled out a dagger from who knew where, readying herself to fight. “Uh- just- stay here,” she told Hideki, not wanting him to get hurt.
Hideki felt his hands starting to shake despite his best attempts to keep calm. He was not ready for this. The thought that there were other people - that Nell was there - was a good reminder that he needed to figure out how to handle the situation. At least, that was what he had been telling himself until he realized that Nell had pulled out a dagger. “Woah!” He grabbed her shoulder to stop her, only just then realizing she had almost said the word ‘karkinoid’. “What the hell are you doing?” He hissed, cautiously leaning his head around the booth. “There’s… at least six of those…” He paused, scanning her expression and only found reassurance that she knew exactly what she was doing, so he resigned himself to slipping out of his guise. “There’s six karkinoids. Whatever experience you may have, you’ll need some back up.”
Nell frowned at being pulled back by Hideki, though she should be very used to people holding her back when she was constantly attempting to dive head first into situations. “I’m gonna kick their ass!” she said restlessly, annoyance coloring her words that she was having to wait to make sure these little shits didn’t hurt anyone in the shop. But then he uttered the word karkinoid, the very one she’d done her best not to say, and she the small suspicions she’d had were at least somewhat confirmed. Unless...Hideki was simply very into the mythology he was responsible for teaching. But he didn’t seem unfazed that apparent mythology could come to life. Her pride made her say, “You don’t know how capable I am or not.” But now wasn’t the time for pride. “The longer I wait, the more likely people are going to get hurt! So unless you have a bazooka hiding under that cardigan-” She let her words cut off, her impatient look cutting into him.
The kitsune sighed as she argued with him. Though, she was right; he had no idea what she was. For all he knew, she was a 600 year-old-vampire who just liked acting like an absolute child at the most inopportune moments… He doubted it. Hideki grumbled under his breath as he pulled off the aforementioned cardigan to protect it; it was $300 dollars. And really soft. “Alright, kid. Let’s see what you can do.” He tossed a smile her way and slid out from beneath the table, just in time to see a karkinoid descending on one of the baristas who’d been brave enough to try to fight them off with a broom. With a flick of his wrist, a carefully aimed burst of fire engulfed the creature. Thank God the windows were broken, though. The stench...
Nell’s impatience turned momentarily to confusion as she watched him take the cardigan off. What the fuck was he doing? But her confusion quickly turned to intrigue as he seemingly put out a challenge. He was...encouraging her now? The surprise one her face only grew as she watched him throw himself into the battle, and fire sprouted from his hand in a similar fashion to the methods her family of fire elementals had used all their lives. But...she didn’t feel any magic in the air as he did it. Nevertheless, she let out a delighted bark of a laugh as he torched the karkinoid, her hands flying straight into the air in triumphant fists. “Haha! Yes, old man! Yes!!” And then she wasted no more time in launching herself into the fray, grabbing the brave barista by the arm, tossing her towards the door, and telling her to “Get the hell out of here!” And then relaying it to anyone else who was in the shop by yelling it over the mess of a shop. In another moment, she was jumping onto the counter, overlooking the field as the karkinoids went in search of whatever food they were trying to find. Picking the first overgrown lobster she saw, she dove from the top of the counter onto it’s back, quickly pinning it’s fatal claws to the floor as she grabbed one of it’s legs nearest it’s middle and yanked it off. “Hideki, I got us dinner!” she yelled after tossing the leg aside. Then she promptly drove her knife into the weak spot she’d created, and the thing’s struggles began to wan.
Hideki rolled his eyes at her encouragement, but was unable to deny the genuine smile that was creeping onto his face. It had been a long time since he’d felt so excited. Hideki was quick to spring to action though as patrons began flooding out of their hiding spaces to run. “Go through the backdoor! Quick!” He shouted, holding open the kitchen door as he ushered everyone to safety. When he turned around to see Nell practically tackle a Karkinoid, it was all he could do to keep from laughing. “Dinner, you say?” He caught the leg and set it ablaze. “Seems as though we’ll be having fire roasted lobster tonight.” He chuckled, but only then realized his mistake in getting distracted. A Karkinoid was coming to the aid of its friend and was dangerously close to Nell. Fearing he might burn her if he were to use his fire, he quickly unbuttoned his pants and shifted. With a vicious snarl, the kitsune tackled the bottom feeder, fangs ripping deep into its exoskeleton.
Another bright laugh fell from her as he ‘prepared’ their dinner, and she finished off her first karkinoid, driving the knife into the weak bit of flesh she’d created again and again. “I’ll have to pick up some butter on the way home.” The hair on the back of her neck suddenly stood on end, battle instinct kicking in as she whipped her head around and saw another karkinoid coming her way. Magic gathered at her fingertips as she got ready to blast it into oblivion, but instead out of the corner of her eye she saw Hideki...taking off his pants? What the fuck. But it all became clear as he shifted, and she barely even blinked as he took out the karkinoid. “Are you shitting me?! A fucking kitsune?!” It was a mix of shock and excitement. She’d met a few of them when she’d been travelling in Japan during her five-year-long attempt to see the world and all it had to hold. “You’ve been holding out on me, jerk!” Then she joked once more in the midst of battle. “Also rude of you to take the one I wanted.” Speaking of ones she wanted it seemed that the rest of the karkinoids were quickly pegging Nell and Hideki as the threats to be most worried about at the moment, and were gathering their forces as the advanced on the pair. In a flash, she’d run her knife down the side of her arm, letting that glorious river of red blood run free as she felt its power flow through her veins, and she dropped it onto a bit of glass on the floor. In another moment, the glass that had shattered in perfectly sharpened bits began to hover in place. Normally, they wouldn’t be enough to make a karkinoid flinch, but if she summoned them to her all in conjunction, and with a lot of muscle behind them. Well...they’d see whether it worked or not. The only problem was at the center of this circle was Nell and Hideki. “When I say jump- jump. After three.” Then she began the countdown. “1...2…3...Jump!” The glass shot inwards as her feet left the ground, doing its best to imaple anything that was in its path.
Hideki only rolled his eyes as the woman cursed at him. Well, at the very least she seemed to know her stuff. At this point he’d believe she was a hunter with the way that she handled that dagger… which was a terrifying thought he didn’t dare to think that much harder on; the massive lobster in his mouth did not want to die. He was forced to let go of the creature as a massive claw clamped down where he had been standing on it just a second ago. Instead, he took a few paces back as the side of it that was the furthest from Nell burst into flames. Just in time for him to see her rip into her own arm. He let out at alarmed yip and ran towards her. Had the girl lost her mind? Things were dire, but not that dire! He was about to try and pull the dagger from her when he realized the glass was floating. Magic? Well… he had asked to see what she could do. Still, his ears pressed nervously to the back of his head as he circled anxiously, waiting on her count. On her command, he leaped, delicately tucking his tail to avoid any injury as the glass rushed forward. All he knew was that he did not want to be those karkinoids at the moment.
Generally, Nell wouldn’t have resorted to magic if she could help it when in public, and in front of a man she didn’t know all that well— but he’d shown his so it didn’t seem all that bad to show her’s. Besides, she knew he wasn’t a witch hunter...right? She’d never heard of a shifter being a witch-hunter. Well- it was too late now. This was much faster than dispatching them individually, anyway. She jumped on her own command along with Hideki, and the glass pieces impaled anything in their path, driving deep into the karkinoids. Her feet touched ground once more as the pieces of glass came to settle, the ones that hadn’t come into contact with anything crunching under her shoes. The karkinoids had been considerably slowed, some of them dead in their tracks, though a couple still managed to crawl towards her and Hideki. “One last one for you, and one for me?” she asked, a blood-thirsty grin on her face as she looked at the carnage of the overgrown lobsters they’d wrought, and delicious adrenaline pumped through her veins.
Hideki landed delicately on his feet, doing his best to ignore the small shards of glass piercing his paws. The small pads on his feet had grown rough from long summer adventures in the mountains where he’d grown up in, but glass was a new sensation that he didn’t ever want to experience again. Still, there were karkinoids to be grilled. He let out a tiny huff in response to her proposition. He took a step forward as though to launch himself at the remaining karkinoid he’d chosen, but let out a small whine as more glass stood in his way. He growled in indignation and set the whole damn creature on fire - perhaps a bit hotter than he’d intended. Still, the sound of sizzling karkinoid was confirmation enough that his part of the job was accomplished.
It took a moment for Nell to realize what was desparinging Hideki, but a little flash of guilt ran through her as she realized the problem. His paws. Sure, she had shoes to protect her feet, but he was working with just the skin of his feet. But it had occurred to her too late, and he was already dispatching his karkinoid, glass be damned. Meanwhile, she approached her own opponent. It had a couple shards of glass sticking out of its shell, but still seemed determined to fight until its last breath. Or at least...get to whatever food it had come here for to begin with. It was easy enough to dispatch the thing, and she did so by magicking one of the heavy looking trash cans over to it, before unceremoniously dropping it on top of the overgrown lobster with a loud crunch. “Well...I guess we can’t eat that one.” Finally- there was silence in the shop, and she remembered Hideki’s dilemma. “Are your um- feet alright? Sorry.”
Hideki jumped a little as the sound of the trash can landing on the karkinoid echoed around the once packed coffee shop. He sighed as he picked his way through the glass and back towards his discarded pants. He dragged them behind the counter, where he could shift without ‘injuring her delicate nature’. He slid his pants on with a quiet grunt, ignoring his bare chest for the time being as he pulled himself onto the coffee counter to examine his feet. “It’s alright. Considering how dangerous karkinoids can be, a little glass means nothing.” He tried to give her a reassuring smile but was keenly aware of the blood dripping from his hands and feet. “Do you ah… Would you please get me some paper towels? And a first aid kit? They must have one here somewhere.”
Nell was going to tell him to stay put, and to just let her clear the glass before he went wading through it, but it seemed she was too late as he disappeared behind the counter, and for a moment there was confusion on her face. Was he....hiding? But his emergence along with the pants made it easy enough to put two and two together. Still- perhaps it would have been better if she hadn’t been staring when he came out from where he’d gone. She might call him old man but...lack of shirt considered— Hideki was decidedly...not old. In a moment she looked away, a bit embarrassed simply because she felt intrusive when he obviously hadn’t meant to end up shirtless in a coffee shop. But her frown came back once more when he answered her, and she didn’t hesitate to step closer, holding out an open and upturned palm that was demanding his hand. “Let me see. I’m not the best healer, but I can get by usually. At least make it stop bleeding and keep you from dying of infection.”
The Kitsune blinked at her outstretched hand. He supposed after what they’d just been through, a little truce was more than due. He placed his hand in hers, allowing her to examine at will with a soft smile on his face. “That is… a relief. Most of my family were healers. It had become a bit of a tradition, so everyone was rather surprised when I was useless when it came to injuries. The fire comes in handy though.” He chuckled a little and nodded towards the burnt husks of the karkinoids. He was silent a moment as he deliberated. “Penelope… What was that back there?”
Nell knew that this was a bit...out of the ordinary for them, and it was rather strange to think that not fifteen minutes ago she’d just thought of Hideki as some stuffy, college professor who lived to shame her about college and steal her muffins. But her brow furrowed as she worked, not in the nature of letting people suffer around her unless they deserved it as her small hands traced the air above his injuries. It was true what she’d said about healing, and her work was slow as she did her best to patch up his hands. Though at the same time...blood injuries had always behaved well for her, it being easier for her to will the red droplets to cease, and bring those platelets together to scab over. The part that consisted of turning those scabs into new flesh was where she often ran into trouble. She couldn’t help but pick up on his phrasing, and asked before she could think not to. “Were healers?” Nevertheless, the corner of her mouth turned upwards, certainly being able to relate to not holding up family traditions. “My family’s just the opposite. A bunch of fire elementals and I can’t even make a puff of smoke.” She looked up from her paused work when she heard her name, even if she was still a little thrown that he tended to use her full one. “What was...what? The karkinoids? You said their name?” He’d known what they were, hadn’t he?
Well, Hideki had always admired Nell for her quick wit, though this was one of the few times he wished she hadn’t caught on so easily to his slipping up. He continued to stare at her hands as she worked - it was a good distraction from the memories and emotions bubbling up. “Were healers,” was his simple response. He hoped that was enough to satisfy her and, thankfully, her slight joke was quick to bring his smile back, even if it was only a small one. “No, not the karkinoids. Your abilities. I hate to assume things, but you are quite skilled and most certainly not a regular human. Call it… an old man’s curiosity.”
For the moment, it seemed that Nell had forgotten her own arm that she’d cut open during the fight for her magical purposes, rather intent on fixing Hideki. Besides, she was used to parts of her bleeding, and as far as injuries went it wasn’t that bad. But Nell knew a dismissal when she heard one, or rather— the shutting of a book Hideki didn’t necessarily want her reading when it came to his family. She was curious, but she wouldn't pry at the moment. It was probably easier, anyway. Nell didn’t think she was particularly good at helping people sort through emotions. “Oh-” Despite herself, her pride granted her a bit of a smile as he called her skilled, and that grin widened as he took it upon himself to claim his ‘old man’ title. “I’m a witch,” she shrugged, as if it was everyday news. “A spellcaster, if that’s easier for an old man to grasp. And you’re...a kitsune?”
“A witch?” Hideki echoed, gears turning in his mind. That made the most sense, but he was admittedly still wary of her. What kind of witch had knife skills like that? And blood magic? Clearly, its healing abilities had done him some good, but, as far as he understood it, blood magic was generally… disapproved of. He’d need to do more research on the subject to be sure. Most concerning of all, was that he wasn’t entirely convinced she wasn’t a hunter. He did his best to keep his face calm as he weighed his options but mainly kept his gaze downcast. “A+, little witch,” the subtle insult made him chuckle as he finally met her eyes, his own glittering mischievously. “I am what is known as a Kasai - or Fire - Kitsune.” His Japanese accent slipped a little as the words from his native tongue rolled past his lips.
Nell wasn’t sure what to make of his tone, feeling like something was shifting back into the territory they normally inhabited of tit for tat, and sizing one another up. Perhaps their momentary little truce was over? “Yep,” she simply said, confused what other answer he might be looking for. “Black cat and all. Pointy little hat for sure.” Well...the black cat comment wasn’t entirely wrong. And then she was back to her impassioned outbursts as he hit just the right button. “Well we can’t all be freakish giants!” But then she was coming down a little once more. “And your A+ isn’t going to get me to enroll.” Kasai, she knew she’d heard the word before when she’d been talking with her kitsune friends she’d met in Japan, but she hadn’t stayed long enough to know all the types of kitsune and their names. “Funnily enough- I might have guessed the fire bit from the whole barbecue shrimp act. At least we’ll eat well tonight, right?” She’d finished with his hands, and pointed to a nearby counter, indicating he should sit on it. “Alright, feet.”
Getting the desired rise out of her made him laugh. It wasn’t his fault he was over a foot taller than her. Hideki shrugged his shoulders as she refused to enroll yet again. “Perhaps one day you will change your mind and prove to the rest of the professors that you could be a fantastic student.” He wiggled his eyebrows at her, knowing full well how ‘cringey’ it may be. His students taught him that word the other day. He nodded, in agreement and slowly shifted a long leg up on the counter so she could have better access. “We might as well open up a seafood restaurant. A one night, lobster-only buffet. It could be quite profitable if we play our cards right.”
Nell’s nose scrunched in her disapproval as she pushed out a hand to shove him lightly in the shoulder. “Stop laughing! Short is normal!” But her face quickly shifted to entirely nonplussed, looking mildly concerned and perhaps disturbed at such movement of his eyebrows. “What was that?” But then her next reaction was to laugh a bit. “That was terrifying. You should have done that at the karkinoids!” Her amusement was kindled by talk of a restaurant as she bent a bit to begin work on his feet. “One-night while supplies last. We could be rich. We’ve already got the place and the health code...grade thingy,” she finished while pointing towards the window where the paper was posted.
“Oh yes, I’m quite certain my eyebrows would have stopped the karkinoids in their tracks,” Hideki mused, as he leaned back a bit, examining their surroundings. “I suppose… we really should donate any profits to the owners, though,” he said with a soft sigh. “I do hope the repairs to this building don’t take too terribly long.” Hideki’s apartment was only two blocks away and he stopped into Coffee Plus on his walks to school each morning. He knew he was fully capable of making his own coffee, but the mere thought of such inconvenience. Which reminded him… “Whatever happened to your muffin?”
“You never know. Have you tried it?” As he leaned back her gaze shifted upwards for a moment to make sure he wasn’t falling or something, and she was once again reminded of his lack of shirt. In a moment, she was floating his discarded cardigan towards them, it landing just beside him on the counter. “Yeah...probably. This kind of thing isn’t exactly uncommon here, though- you know?” Now that she thought about it, she realized she hadn’t the faintest idea how long Hideki had lived in White Crest. “Are you upset for the owner, or your loss of coffee?” she teased. But at the very mention of her muffin, her eyes widened in the slightest, her lips uttering a mournful cry of, “My muffin.” She didn’t spare a second to summon that too, though her pout only strengthened as it came into view. It was in miserable shape, and was there a....bit of karkinoid shell sticking out of it? “My muffin,” she repeated again, this time it being more of an acceptance of the poor thing’s fate. “I guess...would you like a bit of it now? I might be able to share.”
Any kind of response was lost on him as his precious cardigan came floating into view. Sure, he was rather accustomed to magic considering his upbringing, but making things float was not something his family members were generally capable of. He watched like a fascinated child until it finally came to land beside him. “Thank you,” he muttered as he pulled his sweater back on. Hideki purposefully refused to answer her question, though; he was definitely only upset about the coffee, but he wasn’t about to genuinely admit that. The muffin floating still surprised him and he watched as she examined it. “Share?” Bewildered, he stared at her for a moment before laughing. “No, I think we should leave it as inspiration for our dessert menu instead.” With his hands and feet nearly cared for, he finally stopped joking around and leaned forward. “However, I think we should focus our priorities on your arm instead of our faux restaurant. Are you… able to heal yourself? Would you like me to fetch you some bandages?”
Nell watched with some amusement as he seemed to be all too eager to have his cardigan back, though she did not more than shrug in response to his thanks. A small, non-verbal motion that simply meant ‘don’t mention it’. But she also wasn’t going to let him get away that easy with avoiding her teasing question. “Hmm, your silence is awfully telling. Don’t you think?” She wouldn’t judge though. At least not right now. Her own chuckle peppered through the air as he seemed mystified by the muffin. “Oh- come on. I’m being so generous, and this is the thanks I get?” As he shifted his posture, again she looked up, surprised to find that he was closer than before. “I- what?” Oh her arm. “Oh, don’t worry about it. It kinda comes with the territory.” Nevertheless, this time a small pile of bandages appeared from seemingly thin air on the counter, Nell having magicked them here from home. Suddenly, she was hit with a small wave of fatigue. Perhaps she’d done one too many spells in quick succession after the glass stunt, but she brushed it off. After all, healing generally took more out of her than other magics. “I’ll just put them on in a bit. Magical healing isn’t always as prudent for me.” She’d healed her sacrificial wounds before, the ones she made in exchange for power, but sometimes doing so had...unexpected consequences. It seemed that something in magic didn’t always approve of healing something that was meant to be freely given in exchange for power so quickly. Perhaps it felt cheated. “Thank you, though,” she said, remembering her manners at the last moment. After all, it was nice of him to ask.
“When you get to be my age, you learn quickly where your loyalties lie. Mine just so happen to belong to a caffeine addiction,” Hideki finally admitted with a quiet but knowing laugh. Nell was right in that things like this just… happened in White Crest. He’d been there about a year and a half and had learned that lesson quite quickly. The sudden appearance of the bandages on the counter startled him, making him jump. He scrutinized them as though they might come alive, and then he scrutinized her calm demeanor. She wasn’t acting as though anything were out of place… so it must’ve been her doing. He relaxed and turned his gaze to his palms, where he experimentally made a fist. The scabbing would restrict a bit of his movements, but he figured his fine motor skills weren’t too impaired. “Come now, little witch. No need to be stubborn over a simple fix.” He leaned forward - proving himself to be quite flexible - as he gently took her by the elbow of the injured arm and led her towards him for better access. He examined the gash and plucked the bandages off the counter. “I may not have the magical ability to heal, but I’ve cleaned my fair share of wounds.”
Nell’s head tilted to the side, realizing that along with him being a kitsune, she really didn’t know how old he was. “Are you admitting to being an old man, in the same breath as being willing to do anything for coffee?” She was teasing, but also genuinely curious about an answer to her first question. Trying to remember back to the rush of the fight...she couldn’t recall staring at any tails he may or may not have, but she didn’t think there’d been a plethora. Nell shouldn’t have been amused by startling him with the bandages, but another small grin slipped over her lips nonetheless. She’d have to warn him next time. “How’s it feel?” she asked, craning her head a bit to try and get a look at his hands. Be careful though, I don’t want you to open up the scabs.” She grumbled a bit over her apparent new nickname that he’d settled on. Apparently he was determined to make it stick. But her barbs were lowered for a moment when she realized what he was doing, and let herself be brought closer. Still, she was uncertain, mind still decently confused about how they’d gotten from swiping muffins to this. “I- um- alright.” Perhaps the first time she hadn’t fought him on something. “Thanks.”
Hideki made a soft humming sound as he contemplated his answer. “By human standards, I am very much an ‘old man’, but, in the eyes of the ancient ones, I am still a baby.” He winked knowingly and set about the task of cleaning and bandaging up her arm. His touch was gentle, but a bit clumsy with how he couldn’t fully bend his fingers. It didn’t help that his hands were shaking again. He frowned as he realized he hadn’t eaten anything… again. When was his last meal? He’d had… a bowl of rice for dinner two nights ago? No wonder. His brow furrowed as he concentrated, willing his muscles to comply until he could scavenge something up. “They’re a little stiff, but I should be just fine, thank you.” Despite his shaking fingers, he tied off the bandages with a practiced ease. With his immediate concern appropriately addressed, he finally noticed the scarring that undoubtedly came from her magic. He made a mental note but decided it would be best if he simply… didn’t ask. “Now then… I vote we find my shoes and get out of here,” he muttered as he wiggled his feet, testing their new flexibility too.
Nell let out a hum of amusement before she simply said, “Baby, old man,” still having no qualms with poking some fun at him. “That explains a decent amount, though.” Like why he literally sounded like he’d come out of a different century at times. But she stilled as he went about his work, watching curiously as he did what he promised. She couldn’t...entirely remember the last time she’d let someone help this way. It seemed different than letting the healers at the Ring heal her, and she didn’t even always let them do their work. Her frown joined his as she watched his hands tremor, and she didn’t waste time to ask, “You’re sure you’re alright?” Yes, shoes would be a good idea. Despite her wave of fatigue earlier, she didn’t hesitate to call the shoes to them, as she was fairly certain she could at least handle this one other thing for the moment. “Should we see if it fits, Cinderella?” she asked, presenting them to him.
The Kitsune only nodded in response to her question, not wanting to have her worry over him. While he undoubtedly enjoyed her presence, there were some things he still needed to work out about her - such as whether or not she might be a genuine threat. He was slowly getting accustomed to things just floating towards him, but it didn’t stop his eyes from going wide as he watched. “Ah yes, my good prince. Let us see,” he laughed and held up his foot, but the laughter died in his throat as the sound of distant sirens started getting closer. Hideki paled as he looked around the destroyed coffee shop. Of course, the police would be on their way. His eyes met Nell’s for a beat and he opened his mouth, but the words refused to come out. All he could communicate was panic. He snatched the shoes and slid across the counter, bolting through the kitchen door and out of the emergency exit as fast as his legs could carry him. He didn’t even bother to pull his hair from his face as he sprinted down the block, completely bypassing his apartment and heading for the woods. For familiar territory. For safety.
Hm. Nell wasn’t sure how satisfied she was with his nod, but she’d have to take it for now. They needed to get out of this mess. She laughed before leaning over to help him get his shoes on, but it seemed she wouldn’t get the chance to see if the slipper fit. In another moment, she’d heard the sirens as well, and cursed lightly. “Shit.” She doubted the police would blame them for this, but you never knew who might become the scapegoat in a town such as White Crest. But Hideki’s panic held her captive for a moment, making her want to reach out and take the reins when it came to getting out of this. No sooner had she thought such a thing was he bolting for the door in a way that only raised more questions for her. Nell ran after him for a moment, but didn’t get all that far from the shop before she stumbled onto the pavement her shaky legs giving out for a moment as the cost of her magic left her less coordinated than usual. And by the time she looked up he was long gone, nothing but a single shoe left in his wake.

Score of zero: Love (”Gym” pt.2)
@ everybodyhatesluh asked: “I need part 2 of "gym"! Plss! Where the reader tells her love for L! And then her dad askes her who is her boyfriend! I would Love! Luh~💫💛🦋"
Tennis references~
I like putting L in a difficult position, ehehe~
pairing: L x Yagami!fem!reader
warning: fluff I guess?
requested: yes
Remember English is not my first language (and it’s a bit late here) so I’m sorry about the mistakes in my stories.

«"Chocolate Covered Strawberry Brownies"? No, I don't have the mould»
Flip.
«"Heart-Shaped Cake"? Too obvious»
Flip.
«"Strawberry Shortcake Fudge"? It's too pink»
Y/N closed the book and groaned. «Ugh! I can't get my head round this! The fact that he loves all sweets bothers me…»
It was late afternoon at Yagami house. Orange sunbeams lighted up the kitchen and the living room creating a relaxing atmosphere, all despite the narrow space of the house. Y/N was alone in that moment: Light was somewhere with Soichiro, Sachiko was visiting one of her friends and Sayu was at school for some project.
Y/N took advantage of the situation to bake something for Hideki on the occasion of Valentine's Day. However, she sensed that Hideki would never reciprocate her feelings: he gave her the impression to be out of her reach.
«Come on! I'm a Yagami, after all! At least I have to try» Y/N leafed again through the cookery book when she heard the front door open.
«I'm home!»
It was Sayu, she came back earlier from school. Y/N quickly tried to hide the cookbook but Sayu entered the kitchen in a rush. «Y/N~ What are you doing?»
«Me? I wanted to bake something…»
«Really? For who?~» Sayu asked with a strange smirk.
«For myself I guess?» Y/N lied hoping Sayu would go away. But her little sister's smirk just grew wider.
«I don’t believe you~» the two sisters stared at each other for entire minutes. They were secretly hoping the other would give in.
Y/N sighed. «Fine, it's for a boy…» she admitted after a while, Y/N couldn’t lie at her cute sister.
Sayu, on the other hand, was squealing like a fangirl. «I knew it! I knew it! My sis has a crush!»
«Sayu please! Don’t yell…and don’t tell dad!»
Once again, the youngest Yagami smirked mischievously. «I will be as silent as the grave…at one condition»
Y/N sighed again. «What condition…»
«You have to help me with homework for a month»
Y/N complained loudly but if it was the price for Sayu's silence, she had to accept it. So Y/N agreed with her sister and together they started to choose a good sweet to give to this mysterious boy. Y/N told her about how they met and how she became infatuated by him despite most people would define him as "weird".
«Since you played tennis with him, why don’t you do something that recalls a tennis match?» Sayu said casually while browsing through the cookbook bored. At first Y/N didn’t pay attention to what she said but then, after a long reasoning, she hugged Sayu very tightly.
«Sayu, you're a genius!»
♰ TIME SKIP ♰
Something in L's plan went wrong. Impossible, nothing planned by him went wrong…but what happened?
Originally, his intention was to get closer to Y/N Yagami in order to find some evidence about his involvement in the Kira case. More in particular, a proof that Y/N's older brother was, indeed, Kira himself. L would appear in the right places at the right moments, he would always say the right things and he would always be a great listener. Of course he already knew everything about the Yagami family so every confidence Y/N would do to him, the greatest detective L was already informed about it. But he acted as if he never heard anything.
Initially, it went well. Y/N was getting closer and closer to him, her confidences became more intimate and she opened more to him. L was even touched when he heard from her –during the period of surveillance- that she was in love with him, he found her cute. In this exact moment everything fell for him. And L fell too…yes, he fell in love with Y/N Yagami.
In this situation we shouldn’t forget about Soichiro. He, being Y/N's father, was more than bothered by what he heard from the cameras in his house. But not because he didn’t trust his Y/N but mostly because he didn’t trust this "boy" she talked about.
«Uhm Chief…are you sure about this?»
«Matsuda, we have to investigate. This boy could be Kira!»
«But Chief…I think your daughter would never date a potential Kira» Aizawa replied looking at his superior with shock.
«Aizawa is right, Yagami-san. Please, focus your energies on the Kira case and not on your daughter's romantic life»
Soichiro snorted, not fully convinced, but Ryuzaki was his superior co-worker and he had to obey. At least for now.

.
«Casual or formal attire?»
«Casual of course. It's not a date…yet»
«Sayu!»
The two sister, together in Y/N's room, were deciding the outfit for Y/N's love confession. Now she understood her classmates' nervousness about Valentine's day.
«Dress or not dress?» Y/N asked unsure in front of the mirror with two cute dresses in her hands.
«Y/N, wear whatever makes you comfortable…even your school uniform if you want»
She nodded at Sayu and chose F/C shirt / blouse / sweatshirt / hoodie paired with F/C pants / skirt / shorts and favourite shoes. In her bag / small backpack she put all her belongings and the cake she baked for Hideki. Y/N applied a little bit of makeup and brushed her H/C hair in a cute hairstyle.
«How do I look?»
«Gorgeous sis~»
Y/N smiled at Sayu and thanked her for all the advices. Shortly afterwards she would confess her feelings for a boy met at the gym.
♰ TIME SKIP ♰
And then, the day came. 14th February. Y/N decided to meet Hideki after one of his tennis matches at the To-Oh University. She was so nervous, she could sense how sweaty the hands were and how the heart was beating fast.
She was going to come back home and to postpone everything when she saw Hideki at the door of the gym.
«Y/N-chan, hello» Hideki walked closed, slouched as always with his tennis racket in one hand. He hadn’t no sweat on him despite the other athletes behind him were tired.
«H-Hideki-kun! Hi…how was the training today?» Y/N wanted to slap herself for the stutter when she greeted him.
«Quite boring, the others were not skilled as you or your brother» he smiled at her clearly moved by that sudden shyness from the second-born Yagami.
«Would you…would you go to the nearby cafeteria? I heard there's a special menu today»
«Gladly Y/N-chan»
And together they went to this new cafeteria near the To-Oh. However, the too much mushy aspect of the place made Y/N regret the offer she made to Hideki.
«Ah today is Valentine's Day…» Hideki said once inside the cafeteria, looking curiously around like a child inside a toy store: pink and red hearts everywhere –even sweets and candies had that shape-, a strawberry scent filled the air and on TV there was a famous musical.
The waiter asked if Y/N and Hideki were a couple and Y/N quickly said they were only friends. With a fast look, Y/N noticed that Hideki didn’t flinch at that statement. Maybe he really didn’t fell anything for her. A wave of sadness and disappointment hit her like a train and suddenly she started to hate that day.
Hideki and Y/N, once the waiter showed them a table, sat down they talked about many things: sport, University, school and about Kira too.
«What do you think of Kira, Y/N-chan?»
«Well…» she thought for a bit before answering. «It doesn’t matter how noble their ideals are, killing people is always a crime. So I hope this L will catch them»
«Yes, I hope it too»
The two of them were so much focused on their conversation that they didn’t notice someone recognised them from the shop window.
«Matsu look! Isn't that Ryuzaki?» Misa was looking at the shop window searching for something to buy for Light when she spotted a familiar black haired boy who was crouched on the chair instead of sitting.
Matsuda, who was with her according to L's orders, spied inside the cafeteria and he recognised not only Ryuzaki but Chief Yagami's daughter too. «That's Light's sister! So the famous "boy met at the gym" is Ryuzaki! I have to tell the Chief»
In that moment, Y/N grew nervous when she remembered the cake in her bag / small backpack. And Hideki must have noticed it.
«Are you alright, Y/N-chan?»  his monotone voice distracted the young girl from her nervous thoughts.
«Well…actually no»
«Is something bothering you?»
«I…have something to tell you, Hideki» she shifted anxiously in the chair.
«What is it?» again, Hideki's emotionless voice didn’t suggest her what he was feeling. Had she to continue? Or was it better to end the "date" there?
Her shaking hands curled into fists, determination was clear in her E/C eyes. «If I tell you I… You know… Care about you… Would you laugh at me? I never felt so good around someone…for once I was not Light Yagami's sister or Chief Yagami's daughter. With you I can be just Y/N, a girl who clearly cannot even choose a proper place to confess, eh!» she chuckled at the last part, maybe her attempt to wash away her current nervous state.
Then she took a cute pastel purple box from the bag / small backpack and placed it on the table. «I made this…for you» she didn’t dare to look up at him, scared of his reaction.
Y/N heard he took the box and slowly he was opening it. Its contents were chocolate-covered cake balls that recalled tiny tennis balls. «Since I first saw you after a tennis match, I thought it would be nice doing something in memory of that day» she added shortly after, her gaze was still focused on her lap.
On the other hand, despite from outside he would appear calm and composed, L was panicking inside. He knew Y/N was going to confess, he knew what day was…so why that confession, those simple words hit him so hard?
"Internal check: sweaty hands, dry mouth, quickened heartbeat and…warm face. Wait…warm face?" L thought while observing the tiny cakes in front of him.
Yes, L was blushing and his brain was in tilt. Too many thoughts, too many emotions so suddenly. It floored him.
«But it seems…I imagined everything» Y/N broke the embarrassing silence that filled the air between them. Her voice cracked showing how much hurt she was. «Thank you for your time, Hideki-kun…and sorry» she stood up and bowed at him.
She was going to leave the cafeteria when a strong grip at her wrist stopped her. She turned and a tint of pink painted her cheeks, in front of her one of the cutest sight: a tomato-red Hideki who was looking away embarrassed.
«Excuse me, Y/N-chan, I have to say something against what you said earlier…»
«Uh?»
«I apologise if I didn’t reply to you but…hm…I don’t know the protocol for this kind of situations. Few moments ago I had so many thoughts in my mind but my mouth wasn’t able to formulate a proper phrase» L started to say, now it was his turn to be embarrassed, something so rare for him. «And about what you said before…I accept them. Your feelings, I mean. People like you are rare and precious…and since I always want the best, I want you by my side» he moved his dark eyes on her noticing she was even redder than him.
Y/N was staring at him in disbelief. Did she hear it right? He said…he accepted her feelings. She wasn’t dreaming, right?
«So…would you eat those sweets with me?» Hideki asked her and she nodded with a bright smile on her face.
At the same time, at the HQ, Matsuda informed Soichiro about what he saw at the cafeteria. At those words, Soichiro became gloomy and baffled.
«Ryuzaki is my daughter's boyfriend and my superior co-worker…this is even worse than I imagined»
Aizawa and Mogi were looking at him concerned. «Matsuda…you owe me 30.000¥» (A/N: something like 275$ USD with the actual exchange rate).
The young detective sighed defeated and gave the money to Aizawa.
«I knew I was right all along»
