Kinktober Day Two: Power Imbalance
Navigation || Kinktober Masterlist || AO3
You’d always had a liking for criminal justice, so taking the courses in college seemed like a no brainer. You really liked Criminology 1424. It was an interesting class, one that piqued your interest far more than the other classes you were in the process of taking.
In addition to being genuinely interested in the subject, you were more interested in the professor of the class; Dr. Spencer Reid.
He was soft spoken for the most part, a little on the awkward side but that was okay. He was experienced from his fifteen years in the Behavioral Analysis Unit and would use cases he’d faced for examples in his lessons. His lectures were long and albeit pretty boring at times but you had no problem watching the man at the front of class talk, his hands emphasizing just how prepared he was for the topic at hand. You’d realized that there were topics he definitely enjoyed getting into, his body language and his overexaggerated gestures being proof of it.
You’d always thought the FBI and the darkness he faced on a near daily basis would exhaust him, make him harder and more stoic, the seriousness of the world on his shoulders. No, instead he offered smiles, helped any student who came to him, and was painfully oblivious to the amount of young men and women auditing the class just to admire the attractive professor.
It was like any other lecture, delving into the intricacies of triggers and what could bring them on. It was a lesson he liked, judging by his animation this evening. You’d done your best to keep up, to get plenty of notes jotted down due to this being on the impending final. However, you were too busy drooling over the curly haired beauty, his veined hands flailing with each word that fell from his lips.
What you wouldn’t give to have those hands on your body, to feel the gentle touch of your professor as he was letting his fingertips memorize all the dips and curves of your body, to familiarize himself with how to pleasure you.
His hands on-
“Y/N? Are you alright?”
You were snapped from your thoughts. The sound of your name falling from his mouth was like sweet honey, drizzling over your eardrums as you could feel your face heat up from embarrassment. Great. Now the whole class is looking at you.
“Y-Yes, I’m okay. I’m sorry, just, uh, not all the way here today.” You explained, slowly looking back down at the notebook covered in scribbles. So much for getting any work done today.
The class passed by painfully slowly after that. Even the attractive man in front of you didn’t seem to speed up the clock. You’d sat quietly, giving up with the notes aspect as you’d switched to doodling on the edges of your notebook. You’d done your best to try and be one of the first ones out whenever your professor dismissed the class full of students. However your shoulders slumped with defeat when the sea of bodies filed out first.
There was no clean getaway.
“Y/N, do you mind staying back and having a chat?”
Fuck.
Mustering up enough courage to face the man you’d gotten distracted fantasizing about, you were approaching his desk. Even up close, he was a beautiful man. Even in his early to mid forties, he still looked delicious. “I apologize for getting distracted earlier. I was just-”
“Looking at me? Y/N,” There was a deep breath that left his lips. “You can tell me if this tie is ugly. My coworker Penelope insisted I wear it. I love her but some of her ties aren’t really my style.”
He was joking, easing the awkwardness and the unknown tension filling the lecture hall. Maybe he’d been feeling the same way about you. He looked at you a lot as is, however you may have just been in a delusional state of mind right now. There was a hope that Spencer would reciprocate those feelings. “It’s not.. It’s a little ugly but that, uh, wasn’t what I was, uh, staring at.” You decided to just be honest. Worst you can do is transfer out of the class.
Or run away to a new city, start over again at a new university.
“Really?”
“Really. Sir, with the risk of coming across as inappropriate, it’s hard to pay attention to you at the front of the class. It’s not a bad thing. You just always look…” You paused and gave him a once over. “Really nice.” You spoke.
There was a blush that spread across the older man’s cheeks, an eyebrow raising. “You think so? At risk of sounding even more inappropriate and unprofessional,” He paused as he leaned forward a bit, arms crossed over his chest. “It’s hard to teach when you come in looking as beautiful as you do. Makes me just wanna stare at you the whole class.”
The words were lower than usual, a rush of warmth going straight to your core from the mere compliment.
“Plus when you come in with a new lipstick shade..” His lanky body was pushing off the desk before he approached, his fingers resting gently under your chin before tilting it upwards. “It drives me insane. You may think I don’t notice but…” This was crossing the boundary of teacher and student, his thumb swiping over your lower lip. “I do. Makes me think of these pretty lips wrapped around me, those eyes glossed over with pleasure.” He hummed, chuckling at the way your breath hitched, eyes locking with his.
You didn’t know what came over you at this point, however you could help yourself as you were launching yourself forward, mouth smashing against his in a quick kiss that he seemed enthusiastic to reciprocate. His hands were gripping your waist, pulling your frame closer to his chest as the kiss filled with desire and hunger was escalating.
The next thing you knew, you were being sat against the desk at the front of the lecture hall, your eyes widening. “H-Hold on, don't you have another class??” She asked immediately as she let her hands squeeze the broad shoulders. “Yeah, in twenty minutes.” Spencer responded, hands trailing to the waistband of the pants you were wearing. The thought of having sex in a hall where anyone could walk in at any point was enough to send a shiver down your spine. You weren’t one for exhibitionism normally, however you weren’t gonna turn this down.
“Fuck it.” Your words made a grin spread across Spencer’s face, his lips pressing a chaste kiss against your lips while working on getting your pants pulled off, panties following in one swift motion. Licking his hand, the older male didn’t waste any time before moving the wet hand between your legs, his spit working as lube as he wanted to make sure you were wet enough for the deed. Lord knows that he didn’t want you tearing at any point.
The feeling of his fingers brushing against your clit had already sent electricity through your body, a light gasp escaping your lips.
“Such a pretty girl, bet you haven’t ever had any man pay attention to you, huh? I can only imagine you’ve been with selfish little boys who haven’t even attempted to bring you to orgasm..” He sighed playfully, leaning down to press a kiss to your lips once more. He was addicted, drinking in your moans as his thumb was massaging your clit, one finger pushed deep in your weeping hole while he was working you open.
This was definitely something new, you didn’t really sleep around so the few times you’d engaged in casual sex were quick, rushed. You sure as hell knew that the past couple of dudes couldn’t even find your clit. You were intoxicated on his touch the small movements he made eliciting moans and gasps into his mouth. With your hips rolling against the touch, you let your eyes flutter shut.
“As much as I hate to stop, we’ve got fifteen minutes and I’m dying to be inside of you.” He murmured against your lips, his hands moving to undo his belt before tugging his pants down his legs, boxers being pulled down soon after. The sight of his hard cock had your full attention. “Ready? You’re sure you want to keep going?”
“Yes!” You rasped, making him chuckle while his large hands were spreading your thighs apart, letting a trail of his spit fall onto your pussy before he was giving himself a few tugs. The thick tip of his shaft was spreading the spit onto your cunt, a hum falling from his lips. So pretty. God, I hate having to crunch time like this.” He groaned while letting the thick head push into your hole, your mouth falling open at the delicious burn that came with the stretch of your inner walls. If only you knew about your professor’s cock sooner.. All the stress of studying for quizzes would’ve been a million times easier.
His hips snapped without warning, a loud moan falling from your mouth while the male couldn’t help but chuckle as he quickly clasped a hand over your mouth. “Shh. Can’t have anyone hearing you.” His hand barely did justice to hide your moans and cries as his hips continued to roughly thrust, the desk rocking steadily with each movement.
“Fuck. It’s like this pussy was made for me, look at the way she takes my cock and is desperate for more. So greedy.” The vulgar words from your otherwise sweet and seemingly innocent man’s mouth was strangely attractive, attractive to a level that your inner walls were spasming around the hard cock nestled deep inside of you, so far you felt like he was hitting your cervix. Then again, you could’ve just been exaggerating.
With your fingernails digging into his clothed shoulders, you could feel a knot in your stomach, tightening so tight that you felt like the floodgates were going to burst open.
“I-I’m gonn-” You stuttered, words muffled against his hand while Spencer nodded.
“I’m almost there. Cum for me.” His words were husky, tone dripping with ecstasy as he let out a low groan.
As your pussy clenched tightly around his cock, the both of you were letting out a mixture of groans, mons and even a few whimpers slipping from the older man’s lips. It was all too much, finally letting the dam break as you were letting your head fall back, mouth agape as your thighs were shaking, your creamy arousal making a ring around his cock.
There was a little whine at the emptiness you felt when his cock wasn’t inside of you, the male opting to gently move you from the desk before putting you on your knees. “Look at you. Fuck. Stick your tongue out for me. Make sure you close your eyes too. I don’t wanna give you any infections.” Even in a huffing and panting mess, he looked out for you.
Doing as you were told, you let your mouth fall open while your eyes fluttered shut, the male groaning at the sight as he roughly fisted at his cock. There was only a few pumps before his cock was twitching, it being his turn for his head to fall back as he was painting your face with his spent. The load was a lot more than you expected.
Maybe he needed this just as bad as you did.
As the act was coming to an end, Spencer was trying to catch his breath while tugging up his pants and boxers. He’d retrieved a few tissues from his desk before leaning down to wipe your face, a light hum leaving his lips. “Maybe you can talk to me about some extra notes you could add to your doodle book. Say over coffee tomorrow morning?”
“Deal.”

The night cook.
masterlist | requests here
Summary: Insomnia has struck one of the crew and Sanji is willing to find out. Meanwhile, you try to deal with your fear as best you can.
Warnings: I don't know, mention of clowns maybe (yes, exactly what you're thinking).
Word count: 1.4k
Pairing: OPLA!Sanji x F!Reader.
A/N: I have a new obsession and I need to write more and more. I watched the series in one day and now I'm racing against time to catch up with the anime (and soon move on to the manga). It has not been proofread so I apologize for possible errors.
Part 2 here
Sanji was starting to get stressed.
Despite the short time he had been part of the crew, he already knew where he belonged: the kitchen. He could spend hours there and felt comfortable. But something bothered him. Every morning, some fruit always appeared cut, food scraps in the trash, his knives disorganized. He wouldn't look for trouble right away, but he was aware of every move.
Your steps dragged to the kitchen, after another bad night's sleep. The dark circles under his eyes were visible from afar, as was his bad mood.
"Good morning madame! Glad you joined us today for coffee." Sanji caught your attention, placing your plate in front of you.
"Good morning sunshine, your mood seems to brighten the day." Zoro teased you, only earning an eye roll.
You stared at the food in front of you. They looked appetizing, but hunger seemed to be nowhere in your body. You rolled them from one side to the other, without removing any pieces, while heard the others talking in the distance.
"Everything is fine?" The cook's voice caught your attention, a quick glance was enough to realize that the others had already eaten their meals. "Sorry to say ma'am, but you look tired."
"It's okay Ji. I'm just discouraged." You stand up, handing the plate back to him. "They look delicious, but I'm out of food, I'm sorry."
"Nothing to apologize for, my sweet. I heard that if you eat with a full stomach, or in your case without hunger, you can't enjoy the food and the last thing I want is for you to not like one of my dishes ." He leaned on the table, watching you.
"That's impossible. I could eat anything you make, as long as it's you making it."
It had been a while since the two of you exchanged small gestures, small flirtations. Unlike most other women, you weren't bothered by what he said. You felt seen, admired like never before, even though you knew he would say that to a thousand others. Plus, it was fun to see him shy with your answers.
"So... What can I do special for you today. Choose and I'll do it."
"Surprise me!"
You left it in the kitchen and if you looked back, you could see it lost in your image. None of the other beauties would be like that beauty, her beauty. Even though he was still lost, Sanji tried to regain his thoughts, thinking about the perfect lunch.
You got caught up in the tasks on the boat, all to keep the tiredness out of your body. Despite having heard the call for lunch you decided to postpone it, as well as dinner.
When you returned to bathe, you could see that everyone had retired to their rooms. Even with the most comfortable clothes, the coziest sheet and the cool sea breeze coming through the window, it only took a few minutes of sleep for you to wake up sweating, scared.
You were tired of it would be another wasted night. You got up and went towards the kitchen, since sleep didn't decide to appear that night, hunger had already taken its place and a salad would go well at that moment.
You gathered some radishes to cut and a few slices later, you felt the knife against your skin and was scared.
"So you're the cook for the night!" Sanji spoke suddenly.
Before you could curse him for his fright you had to hold back a scream due to the inconvenience of the pain.
"Shit, let me see." in a matter of seconds, he was already in front of you , holding your injured hand.
"It was nothing, you can rest."
"That, young lady, I will decide later." he gently placed a cloth in your hand, pressing it. "What are you doing up at this hour?"
"I couldn't sleep, I decided to prepare something."
"Honey, what's been going on?" He took your hand again, removing the cloth. "Okay, I have the solution to mine and your problem."
He took you by the hand to the bench, placing you in a sitting position, returned to the kitchen, placing a small container to heat and disappeared from sight for a few seconds, returning with a small box in his hands. It brought everything in front of you, allowing you to see what it was really about. A small box with bandage and a small plate with lasagna.
"I saved it from lunch for you, I think you'll like it."
"You know you're my favorite. Shit!" you immediately regretted trying to use your injured hand to eat.
"Now, we'll fix this." The cut was small but uncomfortable and felt a little deep.
You watched him bend down to your height and tend to the small wound like something precious while you ate. The silence between you didn't last long, against your will.
"When are you going to tell me what's been going on? You know, we're friends." Sanji charged, finishing applying the last strip. "Something is wrong with you and I can't figure it out. Besides, you've been destroying my onions in your nightly escapes."
"I'm having some trouble sleeping..." you tried to leave the explanation superficial, but the look in his eyes made it very clear that he wouldn't just buy that.
"You could have told me, you could have made me some tea or something that would help."
"It's not that." You pushed the plate away and straightened up, trying to look away from Sanji. Shame already dominated your body at that time. "It's a stupid thing."
"No mon amour, it's not. I'm here, talk to me."
"There's only one thing in the world that I'm afraid of: clowns. Be they the cute ones or the psychopaths alike..."
"Buggy. Has he been a problem?" Sanji tried to understand, although it didn't make sense since the crew hadn't seen him in days.
"First we were trapped in his circus and it was horrible. Then we had his head on board and I was sure that at any moment he was going to appear. Now, I can't stop having vivid nightmares about it." you confessed, feeling your face burn with embarrassment. "I can't sleep, so I come here at night and I always cook something. I usually watch you cook and it seems like something so relaxing, so good. It hasn't helped me much with my sleep, but at least I've been eating some of the inedible things I make ."
"I bet they're as good as the ones I make and if you don't mind, I'd love to cook with you one of these nights." he winked, eliciting a smile from you. "But for tonight, we need to sleep, finish your plate and I'll be right back with something."
A few minutes and mouthfuls later, Sanji appeared with two mugs, with some hot liquid inside them.
"Herbal tea. It'll help you fall asleep."
"I have my doubts, but…" you took a sip of the sweet drink. "It doesn't hurt to try. Are you sleep deprived too?"
"Not really, I just couldn't leave a lady drinking alone."
"If this works, I promise to buy you the next drink at a bar."
"Wait. This a date?" he asked and if it were possible, you would see hearts instead of his eyes.
"We have the drink." you pointed to the two mugs. "We had dinner." You pointed to the lasagna. "Sounds like a date."
"That miserable clown at least did one good thing"
"Don't ruin the moment, Ji."
The two of you finished your drinks in silence, a few glances exchanged were enough to get comfortable together. Sanji picked up the dishes on the table and you followed him with slower steps.
"Thank you for helping me."
"Who said our date is over?" he turned around, grasping his arm for you to intertwine. "I would never let a lady go alone to her chambers."
"You are a gentleman."
"Only for you amour." He stopped in front of your door. "It's delivered and safe."
You stood on your toes, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thank you, really." You opened the door and before you could enter, you turned around. "Can I ask you one more thing?"
"Whatever madam wants."
"You can stay here for a while, just until I sleep."
"Of course sweetheart" He walked you into the room.
You straightened the bed and lay down on one end, watching him just stare at you, waiting for some sign that he could sit down.
"Please be my guest."
He lay down and almost automatically gave way for you to snuggle against his chest. Your laughter was suppressed when you saw him smiling widely at the contact.
"A few drinks, a dinner..."
"And you ended up in my bed." your voice was already sleepy. Maybe because of the tea, but something said it was more because of the company.
"And I ended up in the perfect place." reciprocating your gesture just now, in the little conscience you had left, you felt his lips touch your forehead. "Sleep missus. I promise not to let any harm come."

Modern Aemond Masterlist
Full Masterlist

Based on THIS request
"Aemond! Over here!" You cringe at the noise, a man with a camera nearly screeching into your ear.
Aemond shields his eyes, trying to block out the flashing of the cameras as he tightens his arm around you, pulling you through the crowd.
It has been about a year since he got his big break. The leading man on a hit show that streams on Netflix. One of this year's biggest hits.
His life entirely changed nearly overnight, changing yours right along with it. You could no longer go out in public with him. You would be swarmed by cameras and people reaching out and grabbing at him. Women yelled out to him that they loved him.
Oh, how the women scream for him.
It doesn't surprise you. He is handsome and charming, not to mention tall, with a jawline that could cut diamonds.
Aemond used to be a quiet man. Hiding in the shadows. Shy and self-conscious. His disability made him bow out from most social situations unless you were there.
You had met Aemond back in primary school. Growing up beside him, you knew him better than anyone else. Or at least you used to.
The man standing beside you now, curling you up in his arm, is not the same man he was just one short year ago, and the realization hit you recently.
You had accompanied him to a photo shoot as you often do. Watching him flit about the place, shaking hands and charming them all with that beautiful smile. The two female models on set hanging on his every word. One being so forward as to brush her hand on his arm. Which he allowed.
Every day, you felt the pressure of his newfound fame start to squeeze into every facet of your life.
You had never been an insecure person. Never. Now you found yourself constantly comparing.
Aemond had been approached by models, a fellow actress, and even a pretty popular musician, and when you look at them and then at yourself, it's obvious that there is simply no comparison.
He is going to leave you or cheat on you at some point, which has you constantly on edge. You had been denying this, but what man wouldn't? What man would stay with his average before fame girlfriend when he could have a lingerie model? A pop star?
You know that he loves you and you love him too, but sometimes love is just not enough.
That's how you find yourself here. Standing in his living room, watching him update his Instagram after fighting your way through a sea of photographers.
Your stomach feels sick as you watch him, trying to build up the courage to say what has been bouncing around in your head for weeks.
"It's time," you whisper to yourself.
You clear your throat as you gently shake out your limbs. "Aemond? I....I need to talk to you."
"Course." He doesn't lift his head from his phone, no doubt jumping on every notification coming from his social media accounts.
"It's important"
He lifts his head and furrows his brow.
"Everything alright, love?" He turns his phone screen down toward his lap to show you that you have his full attention.
You open your mouth to speak and immediately the anxiety of what you're about to do hits you like a tidal wave. Am I doing this? Really doing this?
Aemond can sense the panic that is coursing through you and stands up and quickly walks to you, taking your hands.
"Don't be afraid, love, tell me what's going on," He squeezes gently. His tenderness makes this all so much more difficult.
"I think it's...... Aemond? I..... I'm leaving" the relief you feel at finally telling him is soothing, it's done. You've said it. No take backs.
"Leave?" Aemond grips his phone tightly, his knuckles turning white as he turns his head from you. "Leave where? Go where? For what purpose?"
"Aemond..... I mean leave..... us. This" You turn your head in an effort to avoid that eye. You know you shouldn't look away. It's you who is doing this to the both of you. What right do you have to be sad?
The gentleness on his face is replaced with shock, and he turns his back to you, taking a few steps away. His silence is deafening, but you want to be fair. Give him a moment to process this.
"I... I just don't think we fit anymore, I'm so happy for you, Aemond. You're so talented, and all this that's happening to you? You deserve it, and i want you to have it." You recoil slightly at your own words. You've been thinking it for months, but saying it out loud, saying it to him. It's so painful. So final. "But, there's no room here for me anymore"
As you feel the all too familiar sting in your eyes, you watch his form turned away from you. You want him to look at you. Let you know that he understands that you don't want to hurt him. That this is what is best for both of you.
Instead, he chuckles, and you're hit with a wave of confusion before he turns around and stalks toward you. "Leaving? You think you're leaving me?" The smirk that creeps its way onto his face sends shivers down your spine.
He clicks his tongue as he reaches you, pulling you in tight against his chest.
"You don't get to leave." He coos. "No, my darling, you'll stay right here." he gently runs his fingers through your hair, the movement comforting and menacing.
The little hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Who is this? This isn't the Aemond you know. Kind gentle, Aemond.
No, this person is someone else.
His lifts your face to him by your chin and kisses you gently. The way he moves between loving and domineering so seamlessly, it's as if there are two of him.
"You are mine little dove." He chuckles again as he looks down at you, the gleam in his eye, conveying a message that you are having trouble reading.
"Things have changed yes, we will figure out how to make you more comfortable, but one thing remains constant and that is you."
"You don't get to decide that." You wanted to say this with conviction but it comes out weak and feeble. You and Aemond have hardly ever fought and when you do, he wins every time.
Aemond sighs and smiles. "But I do. See i decide if we stay together. Me, and i have decided that we will. Now if there are things that we can work on to make you more comfortable I am happy to do that" He pushes his face into the crook of your neck as he whispers, " It's what's best for both of us"
You push him back, his arrogance finally pushing you over the edge.
"Who are you? Huh? This isn't you! This arrogant, entitled twat!" The dam that was holding back all of your frustrations fully bursts and you can't help yourself from offloading.
"You flirt with models right in front of me, you-"
"IT'S AN ACT!" He explodes, and you jump back, his voice unrecognizable.
"You think I want them? Those vapid cunts?" He grips your arm tight and shoves you down onto the sofa. The movement jarring.
"Don't shove me!" You move to get up but he leans down caging you in with his arms.
"When I sleep, I dream of you, when awake, I dream of you, when I do anything, I dream of you. There is not another for me, not in this lifetime or the next."
You push your body back on the sofa, trying to put a little distance between the two of you. He glares at you for a moment, lowering his arms from the sofa and bringing them to your shoulders.
"If you leave, I will find you, and I will drag you back to me" He slowly drops to his knees in front of you, sliding his arms down the length of your body in the process. "I'll always find you."
Your eyes widened slightly in fear. His love has always been expressed in gentleness, kind gestures, and soft caresses.
"What happened to being partners? Since when have you owned me as you seem to think?"
"I always have." He looks at you, not with malice, not with hubris, but with a look that tells you he takes this to be simple fact.
He pushes your skirt up, and begins trailing kisses up your thigh.
"Aemond.... we shouldn't. " His grip on your thigh tightens, but he doesn't stop. Your mind is telling you to push him away, stop him but your body is succumbing to his dangerous allure, like a lamb to the slaughter.
The closer he gets to your heat, the faster you lose your resolve. He's always had this effect on you. When he kisses you, touches you, loves on you, you all too quickly fall to your knees.
He slides his hand up your other thigh, slipping it under your skirt until he reaches your hip, gently squeezing at the flesh there.
You close your eyes and lean back on the sofa as he continues to lick and nip at your thigh. Every touch of his skin to yours sending currents of electricity through your veins.
"We're gonna be fine darlin" His voice is hynotizing. Just a moment ago you wanted to punch him in the face and now you are spreading your legs wider to give him enough room to fit his face between your thighs.
"That's a good girl, such a good girl" He moves his hand from your hip to your heat gently caressing you through the thin fabric of your thong.
"For someone who thinks we shouldn't be doing this you are very very wet" You feel the embarrasment rush to your cheeks but are unable to stop yourself from gently bucking your hips upward.
Aemond chuckles and clicks his tongue. "Is that was this was all about hmm? Have I been neglecting you sweet girl?" He moves your thong to the side and brings his finger to the wetness pooling there. "Hmmm seems I have, you poor poor thing" He mocks with fake sympathy.
You sigh as he grips your thighs dragging you to the edge of the sofa. pushing your skirt all the way up and exposing you to him.
"So fucking pretty" He leans forward and flicks the tip of his tongue on your pearl. Your leg twitches in response and he pulls his head back.
You groan at his teasing scooting your body closer to his face, as he starts to chuckle.
"Now, now sweet girl. I'm going to need you to admit, that you aren't going anywhere." He lightly scratches at the sensitive skin on your thigh with his thumbnail. You were supposed to break up and leave, This life with him was making you miserable. "Give me what I want, and I will return the favor" He again leans forward and flicks the very tip of your clit twice.
The teasing is starting to drive you to madness, you came into this room with conviction and a plan but it looks like you would leave this room with shame and satisfaction. "Fine! I'm not leaving, I'm not, I promise, I promise!" You feel a mix of discomfiture and arousal coursing through you but at this point you just don't care.
"Mmmmm" is the only sound he makes before again leaning forward and taking your engorged nerve into his mouth and sucking on it harshly.
"Fuckkkk Aem" You bring your hand down and grip his head, pushing his head closer to you and he is more than happy to oblige.
He slides a long course finger into you while he continues to swallow at your pearl. The sensations have your legs shaking uncontrollably, and as if your hips have a mind of their own, they buck gently against Aemonds face as he gives you everything he knows you want.
His finger crooks inside you, rubbing at the pad inside, gently calling your orgasm to him.
"Oh fuck ahhh!" Your whole body stiffens as he quickens the pace of both his mouth and finger.
As you tumble forward into your peak, you squeeze your legs around his head, the blood rushing to your face heating up your entire body. Is this heaven, or have you been tricked into hell?
After you finish sitting dumbstruck on the sofa, Aemond wastes no time. He slides towards you on his knees, wrapping his hand around your waist.
You rest your exhausted head on his shoulder and wrap your legs around his hips. With just one arm he lifts you slightly off the couch and slowly rises to his feet, you feel the muscles in his chest and shoulders tighten as he lifts you and himself from the floor carrying you into the bedroom. His hard cock pressed against you.
"Have I got you all stupid for me, sweet girl?"
You make some incoherent noises as he gently drops you onto the bed and climbs on top of you.
"I love you" He breathes the words directly into your ear, the sadness in his voice not lost on you. He slots himself between your legs tightly gripping your thigh and pulling it up against him.
"You can't ever leave ok?" He roughly kisses you before you can respond while he pulls you closer by the thigh pushing himself up tight against your core. "Not ever".
Aemond ruts against you, still fully clothed. "Can't live without ya." His voice sounds strained like this is taking everything out of him. "Won't live without ya." His movements become more rough, more desperate.
He pulls back from you just long enough to get your panties off, disposing of his boxers and trousers in the process, before slotting himself back between your legs.
He slides an arm under your back, bringing his hand to the back of your neck, raising your face to his.
"All I want is you. All I've ever wanted is you." His lips meet yours in a searing kiss, a kiss that screams don't go.
He pushes himself against your entrance, begging to be let in. You lean back further parting your legs and he pushes forward slowly.
"Fuck, I love you, oh gods I love you" He moans as he fills you up. Once he reaches the hilt, he lies down on top of you, sliding both of his arms under your shoulders before he gently starts to move against you.
Your bodies are pressed together so tight. You can hardly tell there are two separate people here.
"I'll never let you go, I'll never let you go," he repeats this over and over as his speed increases, his voice changing from desperate to domineering.
He grips your shoulders tightly, holding your body in place as he ruts up into you. "Do you understand now? You can never leave. I love you. You're mine. " his thrusts are slowly getting harder, as the heat again builds up in your abdomen.
"Fucking mine. Always mine. Forever mine," he growls the words at you as he bites into your neck.
"I'm gonna fill you up." He bites into your shoulder, pushing himself as far into you as he can get, but pushing ever still. He can't be close enough to you. He can't be far enough inside. Everything feels like it's just not enough.
He pulls back from you, has his speed increases, and his rhythm falters.
"Cmon cum for me sweet girl" He licks his thumb and brings it to your nub pressing down harshly on the nerve, his movements furious.
You whine out, your legs trembling as you feel your lower stomach growing tighter and tighter, the feeling overwhelming but so good. "Aem." You whimper, "ohhh gods"
"No baby, it's just me." He watches in wonder as you reach your peak for a second time, arching your back and yelling out loud.
"That's good. That's a good girl. Fuck yes baby" His movements become sloppy and he grips your hips tightly as he chases his release. "Say you love me," he growls his hips smacking against your skin with a loud slap sound as you moan out riding out the top of your pleasure.
"Fucking say it" he grunts as he tries to hold back his climax, "Please baby say it." His face is contorted somewhere between pleasure and pain until you acquiesce.
"I love you." The words flow from your mouth so delicately, so naturally. There was never a question as to whether you loved him. The question is whether that love is enough.
Hearing the words from your tongue immediately sends Aemond into the climax he was fighting as he screams out like some kind of feral animal thrusting into you harshly as he rides out his high, collapsing onto your chest leaving himself sheathed inside.
"I love you too"
You wake up the next morning to the alarm on your phone going off and grumble, turning it off and rolling onto your side, looking at a sleeping Aemond. Feeling ashamed of yourself for giving into him last night.
As you slide out of the bed to get ready for work he reaches out and grips your wrist tight.
"Where are you going?" His eyes are still closed and his body hasn't moved the only thing alerting you to his consciousness being the hand tightly gripping your wrist, and his voice.
"To work?" You move again to get out of the bed thinking the matter settled.
"Oh, no we are sending your letter of resignation today" He opens his eyes and shifts in the bed stretching but not releasing your wrist.
"Aemond, i'm not quitting my job!" You can't believe he would even think that was an option. You love your job. Why would you quit? Why would he even want you to? You look towards him in utter confusion as he slightly tightens the grip on your wrist.
"You can't go. You might not come back." He yanks you back into the bed crawling on top of you.
"Like I said before. You're gonna stay right here"

TOO HOT TO HANDLE.
PART I
Han x reader. (s)
Too Hot To Handle masterlist
Synopsis: You and Han become contestants in a reality dating show, Too Hot To Handle. (12,9k words)
Author's note: I hope you like this one too. Don't be shy to add your feedback :)
If you were in paradise with good company and had to resist sex, could you?
We found the hottest, horniest, commitment-phobic singles and gave them what they think is the most exotic and erotic summer of their lives.
Only to reveal that one thing is off the menu is sex.
At stake is a prize of $200,000 which will plummet if they get naughty. The question is, in a world without sex, will they form deeper and more meaningful connections?
Or will the temptation be too hot to handle?
-
"I'm here!" Han announces his arrival and shouts it toward the beach.
Instead of feeling nervous, he feels good to be the first one to enter the villa. At least this way, he wouldn't feel intimidated when he sees people who are more good-looking than him.
There's not much to do with no one to interact with, he grabs one of the cocktails served on the small round table and takes a sip.
He turns the other way, sipping his cocktail while looking at the beautiful view of the sea that goes as far as his eyes can see.
"Oh, it's so gorgeous here," he says with a delightful sigh.
Little did he know, that's not the only gorgeous thing he'll see today.
-
HAN: I'm charming 24/7, that's for sure [laughs] Girls often say they like my smile [brightly smiles] and I won't disagree with that [chuckles] I'm all about a good chat, I'm good listener. I gather pieces of information, I use them at the right time, and [makes shooting gesture] That's part of the secret.
-
Han has to squint his eyes against the blinding sunlight and see two girls coming his way. He sips his drink to fuel his confidence and prepares himself to make a good first impression.
"Wow. You girls look amazing!" Han says out of wonder, not hesitating to let his thoughts out.
He hates to see women objectively but it's hard not to. Not when they're dressed in something that leaves so little to the imagination.
"We can say the same about you," The taller one says, talking as if she's half moaning.
"I'm Mikaela," she introduces herself, not hesitating to pull him into a hug.
Mikaela has shiny dark hair, plump lips, and a height he doesn't have, yet it's not going to stop him from pursuing her.
But it's too early to settle down yet. He turns to the other girl who's more his height and gives her a quick hug.
"I'm Han," he introduces his name first.
"I'm Nya," she replies.
Nya's brown skin glows under the sun and when she smiles, she shows her perfect white teeth.
"Can we drink this?" She asks in a thick British accent.
Stunned by how attractive the girls are, Han forgets about making a good, first impression. He hurriedly hands the drinks over to the girls and proposes a toast.
They're clinking their glasses against each other and take a sip at the same time.
"So, Han, what is your type?" Mikaela asks.
It may seem like a harmless question but it's actually not, she wants him to choose between the two of them. He needs to be careful with what he says if he wants to please them.
"I don't really have a type... but uh... I like eyes, gorgeous eyes," he says.
They nod at you, not quite figuring out what he says by that. He comes up with something to amuse them both, "I like a gorgeous smile too and you both have that."
That works wonderfully as they're smiling and laughing at his answer.
"Cheers to that!" Mikaela says, clinking her glass with his.
"I think the three of us can do something while we wait for the others," Nya suggests an idea.
An idea that gives Han a glimpse of what her personality is. Don't get him wrong, he likes girls who know how to have fun, he just doesn't expect it coming from Nya.
"Yeah? What do you have in mind?" Han playfully dares her.
Nya sips her drink to avoid answering his question then breaks into a series of giggles.
Sadly, the threesome must end as the second male guest enters the villa.
Han would be lying if he said he was not the slightest bit intimidated. Not only he doesn't have his height, but he also doesn't have that Greek God-like body and facial hair that enhances his masculinity.
"How are you doing, man?" He asks Han who's gobsmacked by how tall he is as he stands next to him.
"Good, good," he answers, exchanging a quick hug with him.
He can see honey dripping from Nya's eyes as she looks at the new guy, "What is your name?"
"Rio," he answers.
"Where are you from, Rio?" Mikaela asks, holding her glass close to her lips.
"I'm from Brazil," he answers, taking a drink for himself.
Mikaela giggles even though there's nothing funny about what he says. She fixes her hair as she says, "Rio, you are so gorgeous."
It feels like Han has become invisible to everyone. He quietly sips his drink and tries not to despair. There are more to come and who knows? He'll find someone more suitable to him, more of his type.
Han has to be patient as two more male guests enter the villa, successfully making his confidence shrink.
He bursts into laughter as he's standing between Peyton and Finn like two gorgeous, white pillars of a Greek temple.
And as if that's not enough, the female guest who just entered is also tall.
"Fuck. I'm so small, it's a joke," he says, trying to lighten up his mood by making a fool out of himself.
The boys around him laugh at his joke and almost miss out on the new girl's introduction.
"I'm Sawyer," she says with a cute smile.
"So, Sawyer, what is your type?" Nya asks, going straight to the point.
Han stands up straight and funnily, the other guys are lining up so Sawyer can take a good look at them. He stands on his tiptoes to match the other's heights, earning good laughs from the girls.
"Well, let's say I'm looking more into their personality..." her answer gets cut off as the last male guest enters the scene.
He looks like a textbook bad boy with long, brown hair and tattoos on his body, he has that smoldering eyes that certainly does thing to the girls as he takes all of their attention away.
Confidently, he walks around introducing himself to the girls, kissing them on the cheeks, and keeps his introduction short by only telling his name, "Asher."
So far, no one has caught his eyes or struck his fancy, he doesn't find the sparks he usually gets when he sees someone he likes.
He can only hold onto the hope that he'll find what he's looking for on the last two female guests.
On the other hand, he can't help but expect disappointment and...
"Oh, they're too fit!" Sawyer cutely gasps.
Han glances up from his drink to see what she's fussing about and the boys are howling in reaction to girls walking into the villa.
-
HAN: Oh, we're so spoiled for choice [laughs]
-
It's kind of unfair that they make you enter the villa with someone as gorgeous as Avery.
Except for the dark brown, she looks like the Malibu Barbie. She has perfect skin, that hourglass body figure, and a nice smile. Meanwhile, you look like a long-forgotten, doodled-on Barbie with tattoos scattered across your body.
"Are you nervous?" She asks with an Australian accent.
She looks so cute as she nervously giggles, "Not really," you answer.
It's everyone there who should be nervous because they haven't seen her. You're not jealous, if anything, you want to date her for yourself.
"Should we hold hands?" She offers her hand to you.
You look around at the staff preparing your entrance to the villa, "I'm not sure..."
Your words are trailing off as the staff gives the cute for both of you to start walking into the villa.
To your surprise, you don't feel nervous at all. You feel excited to meet a lot more attractive people and can't wait to know them.
You turn your head and see Avery, looking not as nervous as she seemed to be earlier.
She looks gorgeous with the sun hits her eyes, showing off her beautiful green eyes with a tint of brown in the middle.
It's kind of expected that she's catching all the attention and the boys seem to be curious about Avery that they just can't take their eyes off of her.
"I'm Avery, hi," she introduces herself.
She makes eyes with everyone and Han returns the eye contact with a wide smile on his face.
"Do you fancy anyone, Avery?" Nya asks, being the one that leads the conversation again.
Avery looks at the boys with a smile dancing on her face, Sligh nodding when her eyes hover between Han and Asher.
"Yeah..." she answers then looks away to sip her drink.
"And how about you?" Nya asks.
Everyone turns their attention to you as you quietly grab a drink for yourself. You hold your drink in your hand as you answer, "Honestly, I fancy everyone here."
You look at Nya and continue talking, "I go both ways so bring 'em all in, I guess?" you say with a sly smirk.
Nya seems amused by your answer, "I like that, girl!" She says, clinking her glass with you after.
"Please, save some for us," Rio playfully says.
You nonchalantly shrug and say, "I don't mind sharing."
You secretly steal a few glances at the guy who's been eyeing Avery the second she came into the villa. He looks so cute and cute guys are your weaknesses.
-
YOU: Hi, nice to meet you. I'm— [holds up hand] that sounds so lame, let me do it again! [Laughs] Hey, what's up? It's your girl [blows kisses] I like to keep a low profile. When I see someone I like, I just give them the eyes and they'll get it [Winks] I have standards, of course. But at the end of the day, I have the worst criteria [laughs]
-
The girls are cheering in excitement as they're the first to enter the bedroom.
There are five beds and ten people in here which means everyone has to pair up. The options are still wide open even though he sees Avery sitting on the bed with Asher.
He's half-heartedly listening to the conversation happening in the room as everyone is asking each other about their profession.
He sits on the bed to engage in the conversation as Peyton just told everyone that he works as a model which explains his perfect figure.
"What about you?" Peyton turns to Avery.
She tips her head to the side and it's so adorable of her "Why don't you guess?"
"I think you model too," Finn guesses.
She surprisingly shakes her head, "No, I'm a singer," she says.
Han finds the opportunity to inject himself into the conversation.
"Oh, me too!" He says with such enthusiasm.
"Yeah?" Avery asks.
Han eagerly nods, especially now he has her attention, "What's your sign?"
"I'm a Pisces," she answers.
It's obvious that he can't match his star sign with hers but he won't let it get in his way, "My moon is in Pisces!" He says with a gasp.
"We have a lot of commons," he says, holding both his hands up for a double high-five with her.
"I think we should kiss," Han shamelessly adds.
Avery bursts into laughter hearing Han's proposition but to his surprise, she says, "Just a peck then."
She gets up from the bed and meets Han in the middle, their lips meet for a mere second until Avery breaks the kiss. There are various reactions from everyone but Han notices a few jealous eyes in a few of them. His way of flirting may seem random and a bit silly but hey, it works!
-
HAN: I'm feeling two or three of them but Avery... [whistles] Great body, great smile.
-
It seems like Han is not the only one who has the hots for Avery.
As he chats with Rio with his legs dipped in the swimming pool, he sees that Asher pulls her aside, talking on the wooden chair that overlooks the sea.
He turns at Rio and playfully asks, "What do you think he's saying?"
Rio lets out a chuckle and shrugs, "He's probably saying 'you're the most beautiful girl' and stuff like that," he replies.
Han chuckles at that as he keeps watching the two of them talking. He must admit that Asher wins on visual but it's not a guarantee that he'll be able to win her over with just his look.
Also, he already bagged a peck from Avery.
"How about you? Mikaela, huh?" Han says, guessing that Rio has his eyes on the beautiful, dark-haired girl.
Rio leans with his hands propped behind him and softly laughs, "She's got a banging, banging body," he says the word twice to emphasize how hot she is.
"I think I'll give it a shot, you know, and see what she's saying," Rio concludes.
Well, if he were Rio, he wouldn't worry about not getting a girl. He could only wish to have his sculpted body and he is indeed envious of him for it.
"Finn is going for Avery too," Rio informs.
"Yeah?" He asks with a painful laugh.
Rio laughs while brushing his dark curls to the back, "All I can say to you is best of luck," he says with a sly smile.
Well, the fact that he has competitions only means that Avery is that girl.
-
HAN: There's a competition going on for Avery [laughs] Well, I say let the games begin [rubs hands together]
-
This show is called Party in Paradise for a reason.
Everyone is so revved up and ready for the first party in the villa. The boys are already gathered at the beach, taking a glass of cocktail and making a toast.
"I saw my boy Peyton made his move earlier with Nya," Asher says.
"What?" Han asks in disbelief, completely clueless about it.
Peyton sips his drink with a bragging smirk plastered on his face, "It was nice, it was nice," he coyly responds to that.
"Are you trying to one me up or what?" Han jokes.
He swallows his drink before replying, "Something is going to happen tonight," he cryptically says.
Everyone raises their glasses in the air for another toast and Han wants to keep his focus sharp so he's only taking little sips of it.
Not long after, the girls are coming and dressed stunningly, carefully walking down the steps that lead to the beach. All of them look beautiful in their own way but Avery is exceptionally gorgeous to him.
-
HAN: I need to make a move on Avery. I need to make a progress.
-
The first round of drinks has been drained and everyone moved on to the next round right away. Music is blasting, sending everyone to start moving their bodies to the upbeat music.
Everyone is having fun and getting to know each other with every sip of drink, dancing with each other, not caring that the cameras are filming everything.
You've been instructed to take the lead on the first quest since everyone will take their turn anyway, you've been briefed on everything about the first quest.
When the music abruptly stops, you take it as your cue to take control of the show.
"You guys, I've been tasked to lead the first quest and..." you look at them to build anticipation.
"Don't worry, it's a fun quest!" You assure them, allowing them to stay loosen up.
You grab an eye mask that has been prepared by the staff and show it to everyone, "Each one of you will take turns to stand here," you pointed to the marked spot with a foam mat.
"And you'll put this on," you show them the eye mask again.
You take a few seconds of pause before letting them know the most fun part of it, "And any of you can come to kiss, lick, taste, bite, anything..."
You look at them and emphasize the word again, "Anything!"
Everyone is cheering in reaction, given the chance to do whatever they want to the person they fancy. You can expect a lot of lips locking and fondling in a few minutes.
"Don't get excited yet!" You put a halt to the pheromones you're spreading through your words.
You slyly smile, enjoying the little piece of authority you have over the show.
"The quest is, you have to guess who does what to you and whoever with the most correct answers," you turn around to show them the mysterious box behind you.
You step aside so everyone can look, "You'll get to open the mystery box!"
That earns a wave of applause from them, gets them wondering what's inside the box, and is determined to win the quest.
"Sadly, I don't know what's inside the box," you hurriedly tell them before they get suspicious that you know more than them.
You look around to spot any exciting person to kickstart the game. You notice that Mikaela seems eager to get something out of Rio.
"Mikaela, will you do the honor to be the first?"
She smiles brightly and confidently steps forward, squealing in excitement. You help put the eye mask on without ruining her styled hair and take a step back.
"You ready?" You ask her.
She wriggles her body, "I'm ready!"
Don't want to waste the chance, you steal a quick peck on her lips and earn a surprise gasp from some people.
"That's you!" Mikaela easily guesses.
You walk back to your seat while laughing and see that Rio is also taking his turn after you.
-
YOU: I got my make-up on, I did my hair and I'm... going to get a kiss from everyone [laughs]
-
Peyton stirs a little chaos as he kisses Sawyer and it's not hard to see a displease look on Nya's face after, probably for the rest of the night too.
The time finally comes to Avery's turn. She carefully covers her eyes with the eye mask and with a smile, she makes gestures with her hands.
"Come and get it," she says, swinging her hips side to side.
Han wastes not another second to sprint to her and lands the first kiss on her lips. He gives everything he has to offer, kissing her with the skill he honed from years of experience and putting all of himself into this one kiss.
A kiss that he hoped would be enough to enchant her and put her under his spell.
Han slowly pulls away as his lungs burn from the lack of oxygen, gasping as he looks at Avery's face.
"We share another common thing," he says.
"Huh? What?" Avery asks, still disoriented from the kiss.
"We're both great kissers," he answers.
Avery covers her mouth as she breaks into laughter and as soon as Han leaves his spot, Finn takes his turn to kiss her and he has to watch it.
"Oh, this is mad!" Rio comments while elbowing his sides next to him.
And right after that, Asher takes the next turn and kisses Avery, getting mixed reactions from everyone. That's probably because she gets the most kisses so far.
Avery takes off her eye mask and wipes her lips, trying to clean her smudged lipstick.
"Can you guess, Avery baby?" Nya asks.
She looks in his direction to get any clues on the person who kissed her.
"The first kiss is you," she easily guesses, using both hands to point at him.
Han is inexplicably proud of her for guessing right, he believes the peck helped her to identify his kiss.
"The second one is... uhm..." she bites her finger as she thinks.
She then scrunches her nose and doing it so adorably, "I think it's Finn?"
"And the last one?" You ask.
"That's Asher," she shortly answers, not having the slightest doubt in it.
Han looks at Asher who is nodding along, feeling cocky that Avery recognized his kiss. It seems like the competition has started for real.
-
HAN: The competition is... real mad! [laughs]
-
It's his turn now.
Han drains his drink that he's been sipping little by little and he needs every drop of courage to ready himself for it. When he looks at the other boys, they seem to have it easy because they're undeniably attractive and he feels slightly scared that the other will treat him differently because he's less attractive than the other.
Well, he should mainly focus on the keyword: attractive.
Han is attractive nonetheless.
The layer of anxiety is safely hidden behind his playful smirk as he takes his stand and covers his eyes with the eye mask. He licks his lips and slyly smiles as he says, "Come on! Daddy's home!"
Even though the possibility is close to zero percent, he badly wishes that he could get a kiss from Avery. He laughs as he remembers that he shouldn't take this too seriously, he's here to have fun, it's Party in Paradise.
He can hear the girls giggling and the boys cooing, he takes that as a sign that someone is approaching him. He swallows air as his heart is pitter-pattering and his chest filled with anticipation.
He's seen the other boys take their turn and everyone at least gets a smooch so he stands there expecting one as well.
Instead of that, he feels a kiss on his neck. He shouldn't feel disappointed but he can't help it. He focuses on trying to guess who it is.
Before getting his answer, he hears everyone cooing again and a few light claps.
He anticipates it and this time he believes that he'll get a kiss on the lips.
He indeed gets a kiss but not from one. He feels two pairs of lips kissing him at once and he doesn't mind it at all. It surprises him that he can only let them kiss him.
It's incredibly soft and warm, a little wet. He feels a few licks in here and there.
Too bad that he can't see it but it makes him visualize it in his head, him making out with these two girls, and fuck, it's so hot it gets him so horny.
He doesn't want to guess anymore, he keeps wanting to kiss them because they're both good at it, they know how to use their tongues, and makes him feel a bit lightheaded.
Someone pulls away first and he can hear her softly gasping while the other is still kissing him, taking a bit of his lower lip before letting it go.
Han hears another series of giggles but the sounds are fading, the girls are probably walking back to their seats. He takes a minute to compose himself, then takes off his eye mask.
The first thing he does to get his vision back is look at girls to scan any guilty faces. He can easily guess the one who kisses his neck.
"The one who kissed my neck is..." he points his finger at Sawyer and she reacts with blushed cheeks and a shy laugh, which proves that he's right.
This is where it gets tricky, he was enjoying every bit of that sexy makeout to try to guess who are they. He looks at the girls and they're giving him vague signs.
Sawyer is out of options and he knows Mikaela has no interest in him. That leaves you, Nya, and Avery.
As much as he wants to believe that it's Avery, he doesn't want to make it obvious to her. So he settles on you and Nya.
"Nah, you're wrong," Nya tells him.
His eyes widen in shock and he doesn't want to get over his head but is it possible that one of them is Avery?
He walks back to his seat with a dreading curiosity, "Who was it?"
Rio playfully punches his arm, "It's those girls!"
His eyes follow the direction of Rio's hand and he's even more surprised to know that he's right.
It's you and Avery.
-
HAN: I don't know what else to say [shrugs] I made out with the two hottest girls in the villa [smirks]
-
Not trying to compete with the other three boys but you're sure that the last person that kissed you is Avery.
"I know it's you," you point at her.
Avery may look like an angel, she walks and talks like an angel but she has the devil inside of her. You know that she's just like you, she's all about the vibe and having fun. You believe you would be good friends with her.
"I would be sad if you guessed it wrong," she says.
"I know," you coyly answer.
The game ends with you and it's time to announce the winner of the quest. It's an easy call because the one with the most correct guesses is none other than Avery.
"Come up here!" You order.
She gets up from her chair and walks up to you, leading her to the mystery box as she's the winner which earned her the chance to be the one opening it.
"I've been told that the content of this box will truly change this trip into an experience you won't forget," you inform everyone.
Avery gives you a nervous look as she grips the handle on the lid of the box.
"Are guys ready?" You ask everyone to keep the tension.
"Yeah!" They answer in unison.
You look at Avery and nod, "There's no turning back once you open it!"
You jokingly say that to scare her before walking back to your seat and joining everyone else as anticipation mounts in each passing second.
Avery looks at everyone and squints her eyes, "Count with me, please!"
Everyone agrees to start counting down together, "3..."
Avery decides to stand behind the box and holds the handle of the box again.
"2..."
You wonder what's inside the box, it looks small from where you're sitting but you have seen it up close, it could fit anything and it could be anything inside.
"1..."
Avery closes her eyes as she lifts the lid and the box unfolds on every side, exposing the content to everyone's watching.
You don't want to believe what you're seeing but then it chimes.
"Oh... fuck!" You curse out loud and you're not the only one doing so.
-
YOU: Are you joking?
-
"What is it?" Avery asks as she hasn't opened her eyes yet.
She then puts the lid away and sees what everyone is seeing, the cone that lights up in purple-hued colors.
"What is that?" She cluelessly asks.
"That's Lana!" Nya screams with a strained voice.
"That's fucking Lana!" She says again with a doomed expression.
Avery's eyes widen in horror and she drags herself back to sit, wedging herself between you and Mikaela.
You guess everyone is just in shock about the sudden turn of events and that everyone is trapped in her show. You hate that you know what's coming for you.
"This is Too Hot To Handle," Lana announces, telling everyone that she is running this show from the very beginning.
"You have been specially selected because you are all choosing meaningless sex over genuine relationships."
"Guilty!" Asher says with a hand raised like he's in a classroom.
"The purpose of this retreat is to help you gain deeper emotional connections in your personal relationships."
Avery drops her head on your shoulder and grumbles, "I don't want that, Lana."
You put your hand around her, feeling what she's feeling: betrayal and devastation.
"As always, there are conditions to your stay here. You must abstain from sexual practices for the entirety of your stay."
You close your eyes and try to take the first bitter pill, swallowing it dry, and pushing it as far down as you can.
"Are you jok—" Mikaela can't even finish her sentence.
"No kissing."
"What?" Avery gasps in disbelief.
"No heavy petting."
Mikaela sighs, running her hand to her hair and ruining her hairstyle altogether.
"And no sex of any kind."
That earns a lot of gasp from everyone and there goes down the biggest, most bitter pill you have to take.
"This also applies to self-gratification."
Mikaela sighs again while Nya squeals in both pain and amusement.
"What does it mean?" Sawyer innocently asks.
"You can't masturbate, babe," Avery answers her question with a pout.
"At all?" She asks again to confirm her fear.
So they threw a bunch of hot people into a villa and tricked them into thinking that they would be partying and having fun only to reveal that they're not allowed to have any physical contact? What in the 21st century way of torture is this?
-
YOU: There goes my plan to kiss everyone... I was planning to get a taste here and there and now it's like... No [sighs]
-
"As part of your social development, I have allocated a prize of $200,000."
Everyone's eyes turn green at the mention of money and the amount of it, also at the promise that they can win it.
"I'm a college student. I need that!" Finn comments from the end of the bench.
"Each time the rules are broken, money will be deducted from the prize fund."
Of course, it wouldn't be that easy to win that much money and now it looks like everyone would be leaving with nothing.
But with the rules are set and the prize is announced, the game gets serious now.
"Welcome to your long, hard, sexless summer," Lana finishes with the gloom casting on those words.
"Everyone gets ready now 'cause it's not Party in Paradise anymore," Nya reminds everyone with the harsh truth.
"It's hell now," Mikaela eggs in.
Han personally thinks this is worse than hell. Because at least in hell, he'd be allowed to get horny.
-
HAN: $200,000... That's a lot of money... to spend [smirks]
-
"Please, can we not?"
The last thing you want to hear is everyone complaining about the rules again and it's only dragging you down more than you allowed it to.
"I'm just upset..." Mikaela says as she takes off her earrings and puts them into a jewelry box.
"I know," you sigh, tossing your shoes into the bottom shelf of your closet.
It takes you a long time to get ready for bed but it's most likely because the girls are chatting and you can't help but join in. Trying to keep yourself away from sex is hard but being able to talk about it is what makes it bearable.
You and Avery walk to the bedroom with arms linked, you just know you'll be friends by how you identify a few traits of yours in her.
The boys are already taking their territory except for Finn, you know he's still in the dresser room. You're fine sharing a bed with anyone but you try not to make drama by getting on a bed with someone's person of interest.
Since Avery is the hot commodity, you make her choose where she'll sleep tonight.
"So, Avery, what's the bed situation?" You ask her.
A few pairs of ears perk up hearing the question and you notice that the three men competing are watching as Avery is making a decision.
She walks up to the bed in the middle, "I'll sleep here."
Asher triumphantly smiles as Avery climbs onto his bed and gets under the cover next to him.
Now that she has settled on a man, you can choose your bed partner at ease. Rio is off-limits unless you want to face Mikaela's wrath and Peyton is also out of the question, you don't want to mess with Nya.
You walk over to Han's bed and you kind of like the vibe he's giving you, you know he's into Avery but it's not like he has much of options, it's either you and Sawyer.
"Want to share a bed?" You ask.
Han glances at you and without answering, makes a space on the bed for you. He seems to take an interest in the tattoos inked your body and he notices that you're watching.
"How many tattoos do you have?" He asks.
You lean against the pillow stacked behind you, "Uhm... I never counted," you reply.
It's amusing to see the wonder in his eyes as he's looking at your tattoos, making you feel like teasing him.
"How about I get naked and you can count my tattoos for me?"
He blinks his eyes at you, "I can promise you I'll do well at that," he says.
You chuckle at his witty answer and outstretched your arms to showcase the small tattoos on both of your arms.
He turns on the bed to lay on his side facing you, "Which one is your favorite?"
You take a few seconds to think of an answer, "I think it's the one on my spine."
You take all of your hair to one shoulder before turning your back at him, to show him the tattoo you're talking about.
His finger pulls down the silk camisole you're wearing so he can take a better look at it.
"Yeah, that's nice," he agrees with you.
You lean back on your pillow again and look at him, "How about you? Do you have any favorite yet?" You playfully ask.
He slyly smiles even before he begins talking, "Well, I believe there are tattoos that I have not yet seen," he says with one eyebrow slightly raised higher than the other.
Han knows how to amuse you, he's attractive in a different way than the other guys. It makes you want to tease him more.
"You mean like this one?" You lift the front of your camisole to show him the tattoo you have under your left breast.
He almost chokes on air as he breaks into laughter, "That could be my favorite," he says.
You nod and laugh along with him, "I'll show you more but I'm afraid we have to wait for third base," you jokingly say.
That amuses him so much, he collapses on his side of the bed and covers his eyes as he laughs. He has that laugh that only enhances the hilarity and you can't help to laugh along.
-
YOU: Han is cute, yeah, I think we'll get on well.
-
The lights are on and Han would still be sleeping if you didn't shift on the bed to take your water tumbler from the bedside table.
As everyone is slowly getting up and dragging themselves out of slumber, Lana's chime startles everyone.
"Oh, it wasn't a dream," Nya groans from the next bed to his.
Yeah, right, Han forgot about the sex ban until that cone lights up on top of the small glass table in the middle of the room.
"Good morning, everyone!" Lana greets.
Han props a pillow behind his head and you take his arm out so you can rest your head on it.
"Morning, hon!" You sleepily reply.
"I'd like to remind you that you're in a retreat but I do hope you enjoy your summer of sun, sea, and no sex," Lana concludes her morning greeting, leaving everyone with the awakening truth that they're not allowed to touch each other.
Han looks over to Avery's bed and wonders how is he going to make a move on her with Lana cockblocking him?
"Right. I'm going back to sleep," you grumble, closing your eyes and nuzzling your head in his neck.
Han slips his hand in your hair, playing with it as he's listening to the talk happening in the room.
"Is anyone still pissed off?" Nya asks everyone how they feel.
Peyton is the first one to raise his hand and Mikaela adds her opinion on the matter, "I think it's impossible to connect with someone without touching them, don't you think?"
Han is too busy thinking of his game plan now that the competition is getting tough and Asher is a point ahead of him.
"I think we need to tell each other if someone is—" Sawyer's words got cut off by Asher.
"At the end of the day, just don't lie," Asher remarks.
Han turns his head to the side only to bury his nose in your hair, catching the scent of your shampoo.
"Your hair smells so good," he says to you.
You hum with your eyes still closed and splayed your hand on his chest, "And you have nice pecs."
You both softly laugh at the compliments you give each other.
Last night, you both fell asleep after having a chat about random things, getting to know each other with jokes slipped in between.
Han must say that he likes you, you're fun to be around and you don't take things seriously. But then again, his eyes are on Avery.
-
HAN: I woke up next to her and it was great, I like her but... I like Avery more.
-
After taking a quick dip in the beach, you're walking past the boys who are working out on the way back to the villa.
"Looking good wet," Asher teases you with a lopsided grin on his face.
Too bad you're immune to sweet nothings like that, you flash him a smile and keep climbing the stairs back to the villa.
The other girls are already done with their make-up and leaving the dressing room empty, allowing you to get ready in peace.
In the middle of doing your hair, Nya enters the room and takes a seat next to you.
"What's up, hottie?" You ask while looking in the mirror to make sure you don't burn your scalp with the straightening iron.
Nya grabs her make-up pouch from the other side of the vanity table and takes out a brush. She seems to have something to say to you but hesitates to tell you.
After a while, she finally confesses, "Peyton and I, we kissed last night."
You're more shocked by the fact that she shares this with you rather than the kiss itself. They're horny for each other, it's only about time that they rule break.
You softly chuckle and gently comb your hair with your fingers, "How many times?"
"Just once," she answers while applying makeup on her cheeks.
"I'm impressed!" You playfully respond.
Nya chuckles at that and swivels her chair to face you, "What do you think? Is it three grand? For a kiss?" She asks with a nervous smile.
You put down the straightening iron and lean back on your chair, "I think so, yeah."
Nya takes lipstick out of her pouch next, "I didn't give a fuck at that moment," she says.
From your observation, Nya indeed doesn't give a fuck about the rules. She broke them hours after Lana put on the sex ban and you believe she wouldn't stop there.
"You saw how he kissed me last night during the game and I was a bit horny that we're sharing the bed..." she stops talking as she breaks into breathless chuckles.
"So, Peyton, huh?"
"Well, yeah, once I set my eyes on someone, I will get them," Nya remarks, affirming her strong personality.
"Sorry not sorry, Sawyer," she adds and couldn't care less about anyone else.
Which reminds you to never get on her bad side. You continue styling your hair while keeping the conversation going.
"Yeah, I think you guys are so cute," you comment even though you're not sure that Peyton will make a loyal partner considering that he kissed another girl right in front of her.
"What about you? How are you feeling?" She asks.
This is a dating show and you're well aware that you should get a partner to make this work but no one really tugs at your heartstrings.
Well, there is Han but he's certainly not available to you.
"I came to meet people and have fun, that's what I'm here for," you settle on a simple answer because you have no idea what you can do without a partner in this show.
"Yeah, yeah," Nya half-heartedly responds, "but who are you feeling?"
You must take another pause on doing your hair, "I like Han, he's cute. I like cute guys," you honestly answer.
Nya smiles listening to you talking, "He is. He is cute."
"But I think he's into Avery," you add, not letting her encourage you to pursue him.
Nya nods, getting the gist of it since it's obvious that Avery is the most popular girl in the retreat. She swipes her full lips with nude-colored lipstick and smacks her lips together.
"Once they know about the kiss, we're going to get hated," Nya once again worries about what would happen when Lana announces the infraction they've done last night.
"I think you should just... own up to it," you suggest.
Honest is the best policy and also, you think people will be less upset if they admit their mistake right away.
-
YOU: Knowing that someone already broke the rules. It's only about time that someone else starts doing it too.
-
Han has just come out of the shower when Lana calls everyone to the cabana.
He combs his wet hair fast and walks with Finn to where everyone has gathered, sitting on the curved sofa facing the cone-shaped lady.
He squeezes himself between you and Sawyer, putting his arm on the headrest of the sofa as he waits for Lana to come online.
You look over your shoulder at him, "You smell nice."
"I showered," he simply answers with a sly grin on his face.
"That changes everything," you joke, then rest your head on his shoulder,
The cone lights up followed by the melodic chime that he should get used to hearing it. There must be a reason why everyone is called to the cabana, someone must have done something.
"Hello, everyone!" Lana begins.
"Hey, Lana," he replies, suddenly feeling nervous even though he hasn't done anything yet.
"The rules of my retreat have already been broken."
Everyone collectively gasps at that announcement and this is where they get suspicious of each other.
"Oh, no..." Sawyer sighs.
Finn sits on the edge of the sofa and clasps his hands together in front of him, "Anybody wants to come clean?" He asks.
Han gets the feeling that Finn would play the good cop here and he also senses that you know something, "Did we kiss in our sleep or what?"
"If that's the case, I wouldn't stop at kissing," you joke back at him with a gentle slap on his forearm.
Unexpectedly, what you said makes him flutter inside, he almost forgot that someone broke the rules and possibly, it involves Avery.
"I'm so confused," Sawyer says as if it's a math problem that she needs to solve.
No one wants to come forward and it creates animosity in the air. He doesn't like what this leads to, he hopes that someone comes forward so things won't get ugly.
"Who's guilty?" He throws the question in with his eyes uneasily glancing in Avery's direction.
"I thought we were going to be truthful with each other," Finn reminds everyone about the unwritten rules they made this morning.
The calm on Nya's face shatters as Rio says, "You're looking real guilty right now, Nya."
"Yeah, okay, it was me," she finally confesses.
Nya tips her head to the side then looks at Peyton, "Peyton and I kissed."
Han glares at Peyton, he expects that at least he would man up and own up to it. But Han feels a relief knowing that it wasn't Avery.
"This breach of rules has cost the group $3,000," Lana announces.
Oh? Three thousand dollars? For a kiss? That's a surprise but still, he would spend that much for a kiss with Avery.
"The prize fund now stands at $197,000," Lana updates.
"I'm so vexed, you know," Finn says, being the only one who is genuinely upset about losing money.
While the others... the others seem to have waited for someone to break the wave so they can start to rule break too.
And that includes him.
-
HAN: Best believe if anybody is going to rule break next, it's me [cackles]
-
"Hello, I'm Josh and I'm a professional tantric practitioner," the instructor for today's workshop introduces himself.
Your eyebrow raises in intrigue at the mention of the word 'tantric' and how it would help everyone to not think about sex.
"Tantric? What is that?" Sawyer naively asks next to you.
"Just listen to the instructor," you tell her with a pat on her shoulder.
"Usually, when we relate to other people, everything is fast, right?" Josh says.
You nod in agreement while shielding your eyes from the bright sun.
"Someone touches you, you touch them back. You kiss this person, they kiss you back but we don't feel it," he eloquently explains while walking around and making eye contact with everyone.
"That's what this workshop is for. For you to learn how to feel your body," he further explains.
He walks back to the middle and looks at everyone, "Pleasure is not in the other. Pleasure is in yourself."
Then Josh orders everyone to gather in the middle as he explains what we're going to do next. He holds a tray full of blindfolds for everyone.
"Usually, people relate tantra to sexuality. But that's just a really small part. Every aspect of you can benefit from increased awareness," Josh informs.
He then offers the tray to Asher who stands close to him, ordering him to get one.
"So we're going to broaden the awareness of our vision, of our breathing, our sounds, our movements..."
You put the blindfold on and tie it around your head, putting you in total blindness.
"We put the blindfolds on so the experience can just be your experience," he concludes before starting the session.
Josh instructs everyone to move their bodies, walk around, and eventually bump into each other's bodies. You get goosebumps when your body crashes with someone, you can feel their heat and feel them skin-to-skin.
Then Josh orders everyone to take a step back and blindly, get a partner to do the next session.
You catch the person that you inexplicably guess is standing in front of you and holding him.
"Oh, I found one!" You reflexively say.
Your partner chuckles at that and from the laugh, you can tell who it is.
"Got you," you tell him with a grin.
"Okay, now, breathe..." Josh instructed, "Breathe her in. Breathe him in."
You slip your hands under and around his waist while he places his hands on your back, also holding you back.
You lean your head forward and meet his head in the middle, ending up putting our heads together. This way you can feel his breath on you and every subtle sound he makes.
"It's time to reveal who your partner was," Josh finally allows everyone to take their blindfolds off.
You untie it on the back of your head and burst into laughs the moment your eyes meet.
-
YOU: I just can tell who it is the moment we touch [laughs]
-
"These emotional processes happen but they can only be experienced if you're present."
Now that everyone has partnered up, each pair takes a seat on the mat and sits facing each other. As Han puts his legs on each side of you, you decide to put your legs over his.
"You can get back to your connection through the eyes," Josh continues.
You both can't stop laughing at each other and the longer you maintain eye contact with him, the more you can't stop yourself from laughing.
"Don't lose her. Don't lose him."
"I think it would be better if we close our eyes," you suggest, holding his hands in substitute of that and pressing your heads together.
"Tantra is a way of connecting with your essence. With your feelings."
And you focus on doing what Josh told you to do, focusing on your breathing to be able to intensely feel things with your senses.
"Deep breathe, not deep penetration," Han reminds you.
Once again, you fail to keep your composure and break into a wave of laughter.
"Now, lie down. It's time for you to feel your whole body vibration."
You both lie down facing against each other with your legs still around him and he places his hand on your shin, softly rubbing the skin with his thumb.
"One must learn to connect deeply with oneself. That's tantra. A way through which you can truly connect with yourself."
Maybe because you let yourself open to it, you can feel that connection, it's as if your body is one with earth. You can feel the ground beneath, you can hear the waves crashing and the warmth of the afternoon sun on your skin.
"Now you can sit up," Josh orders.
You slowly open your eyes and sit up, meeting Han's eyes again but this time, you smile at him.
"That was good," you mutter to him.
"Right?" He agrees with you.
You rest your head on his shoulder and continue to sit close facing each other, feeling each other's bodies in a whole new way.
Josh finishes the workshop with one last instruction: a group hug.
-
YOU: I think I learned how to get to know myself better and to not hold in what I really feel [smiles]
-
"You all look so sexy!"
You compliment everyone who's getting ready in the dressing room while searching for someone. Avery gleefully smiles at your compliment.
"You look good in those sexy jeans!"
It sounds like she's making fun of it and you look down to check if you look okay in what you're wearing, "Am I underdressed?"
"No. Your butt looks cute in it," Avery assures you with a playful slap on your clothed ass.
To make room for everyone else who hasn't gotten ready yet, you move to the bedroom and find the one you're looking for. Han is sitting on the bed already dressed in blue jeans and a white shirt with the top three buttons left open.
After the workshop, you feel somehow closer to him and you get along really well, you wonder if it could be more.
"Hiya, sexy!" You greet him.
Han glances up and pats the space on the bed, gesturing for you to sit next to him.
"How are you?" He asks.
"Good. You?" You ask back while sitting down and propping a hand against the bed.
"I'm good, thanks," he answers with a smile.
There's no one else in the bedroom and you take it as an opportunity to ask him about something.
"So, where's your head at?" You ask.
Han puts his hand under his head and simply says, "It's right here."
You chuckle and tip your head to the side, "I mean... who do you like in here?"
He takes a moment to take a deep breath and you guess picking his words carefully before answering you, "I think I get on really well with you," he begins.
And it's good to know that he feels the same way about it.
"But I'm more attracted to Avery," he adds, not even hesitating to tell you about it.
Well, it's also good to know that he can openly and comfortably share things with you.
"Yeah," you say, expecting that answer already.
Yet you can't quite hide your disappointment, you look away and pretend to fix your hair. That's just him basically saying that you have a great personality but that's not enough to attract him.
"As you know the three of us are pursuing Avery and we don't know which one she likes..." he says while rubbing his chin.
Instead of being salty about it, you decide to be a friend to him and give him your opinion.
"I think if you like someone, you go for it. There's no time to waste, just go and get it," you encourage while mindlessly running your hand on the bedsheet.
"Yeah," Han's head bobbing in agreement.
"You should talk to Avery and see how she feels about you," you add.
It is obvious that Han likes Avery but he's playing the cool guy trick by thinking that he'll win her over by acting like he doesn't care.
-
YOU: Oh, well... [awkwardly chuckles] I kind of expected that answer.
-
After the workshop, Han realizes that you and he bounce off each other, you're tuned in to the same wave and he agrees that it has the potential to be something more than that.
However, Han feels like he should keep pursuing Avery. Mostly because he's attracted to her, almost magnetic, and the fact that he has competition makes him want her more.
He gets out of the bedroom after knowing that Avery is no longer in the dressing room.
Turns out, Finn is already making his move on her. He sees them talking in the firepit and having a laugh, but he can't hear what they're talking about. Finn shortly leaves after kissing her on the hand.
So he's playing the romantic guy, Han reckons.
Avery once said that he likes bad boys and so he'll be it. Bad boys don't make it obvious that he likes her, they wait until they come around.
So Han decides that should be his game plan, sitting on the sofa and you know, waiting for Avery to come around.
-
HAN: I'm not worried about Asher so my game plan is to play it cool and see where it goes. She'll come to the right man... eventually [laughs]
-
After hours of no significant result, Han walks back inside to get a new place to hang out.
He decides to go to the bedroom, pushing the door with both hands only to walk into Asher and Avery cuddling on the bed.
Now he sees the flaw in his game plan, he slowly walks back out of the room as everything backfired to him.
When it's time for bed, he couldn't be happier.
Han dives into his pillow and takes a deep breath, blowing some steam off.
A moment later, he feels the bed quaking as you get on and playfully, put your body on top of him.
"We're like the twin bar ice cream," He grumbles as your body presses onto him.
His body shakes along with yours as you're laughing on top of him, then rolling yourself to the side and onto the bed next to him.
"How was your night?" You ask, playing with his dark hair.
"Average," he shortly answers.
"I'm asking about your night, not your genital size," you joke.
He chuckles before answering, "Then it's below average."
If there's anyone that makes this retreat bearable to him then it's you. He can share everything with you and what he likes the most about it is that he can seek comfort from you too.
Han scoots closer and puts his hand across your chest which you nicely welcomed. You're caressing his forearm with only your fingertips and it's relaxing him.
When the lights are out, you pull his arm and put it around you as you lie on your side with your back against his chest.
"Goodnight," you murmur.
He hesitates but with his mouth pressed close to you, he decides to kiss you on the top of your head.
"Goodnight," he murmurs back, snuggling his head on the crook of your neck.
-
HAN: I guess nice guys do finish last [laughs]
-
The bathroom is pretty much occupied by the two tall lovebirds, Rio and Mikaela.
You almost walk in on them applying sunblock on each other's bodies and slowly, walking back out of there. Stepping into the dressing room, you find Nya there with Avery who's busy putting her hair into a ponytail.
"Hello, babes," you greet them as you take a seat in your usual spot and decide to put on your sunscreen there when you usually put it on in the bathroom because it can get messy.
Mikaela joins in not long after and sits next to you, fixing her hair with a brush.
"Has anything been going on late at night?" Nya asks her since Mikaela and Rio turned up to their bed late last night.
"We held off pretty well, I guess," Mikaela answers with her half-moaning voice.
"Yeah, but has he been getting hard?" Nya asks again, being nosy as she is.
"We're pretty close," Mikaela answers with a cryptic smile.
You look at her with a dollop of sunscreen on your cheek, "Pretty close? What's that even mean?" You tease.
Before Mikaela can answer that, Lana butts in with her familiar chime, and everyone's heads turn to the cone sitting on the shelf.
"Uh-oh!" You gasp in surprise and awkwardly continue dabbing your cheeks with sunscreen.
"Girls," Lana calls out to everyone in the dressing room.
"Yeah?" Nya replies with a shocked smile.
"Please gather everyone in the bedroom," Lana orders.
You sense that Mikaela did something last night from the horror drawn on her face with her round eyes widening in slight shock.
Nya gets up from her chair but you haven't finished with your sunscreen yet.
"I'll catch up," you tell her.
You put on a sheer top over your bikini before heading to the bedroom and see that everyone is already there including Han.
He holds his hand out for you to take, gesturing for you to sit close to him at the end of your shared bed.
-
YOU: This can't be good news [scrunches nose]
-
Other than Mikaela, you notice another pair of guilty faces. No surprise if Nya broke another rule but also, you kind of guessed that Avery did something too, she keeps shaking her leg uncomfortably.
Lana chimes and the tension is already rising in the room.
"There have been breaches of the rules," Lana goes straight to business.
"Breaches?" Finn focuses on the plural terms that could tell how much money he'll be losing today.
As someone without a partner, you can relax since no one will be suspicious of you. You put your legs over Han's and rest your hand on his shoulder.
Heads are turning against each other but no one is saying anything.
"Mmh..." Avery lets out a low sigh.
You bet she did something and if yes, who did she do it with? You look at Han and wonder if he did what you told him to just go and get her.
"I'll be honest with you guys..." Asher speaks up.
There goes your answer. Avery did kiss but it's with Asher and you don't know why you feel some sort of relief on knowing it.
"I definitely lost some money last night," he pauses to scratch his head, "I pulled Avery aside and kissed her."
Avery shyly smiles and sputters her apology, "I'm–I am sorry, you guys."
Your eyes silently shift at Han and notice that he's not pleased to hear his love interest got kissed by someone else.
"This is what I wanted and I felt a genuine connection there," Asher adds.
What a way to prove that he wants to delve further into this relationship but Avery doesn't seem to be happy to hear his man declare that she is what he wanted.
"So sorry, guys," Asher concludes.
It would be stupid of you to hope that that's the only kiss that happened last night.
"There was another breach of the rules," Lana says again and she won't stop until everyone comes clean.
You look at Nya and she's not looking at anyone. Peyton seems to have decided to keep denying it and staying quiet about it.
Mikaela sighs then closes her eyes, "Why don't you tell them, Rio," she says to the man next to her.
Rio licks his lips and opens his mouth, but words do not come out of it until a minute later.
"We kissed a couple of times last night," Rio confesses and pinches the bridge of his nose after.
"A couple?" Finn asks for confirmation.
You guess what he needs to know is how many kisses in numbers.
"Five times," Rio answers.
"Oh, my gosh!" Avery sighs while rubbing her temple.
That makes you sweat a little and you take your hand off of Han's shoulder to fiddle with the strap of your bikini, also because you sense that Han gets tensed beside you.
"I mean, I can tolerate one or two kisses but five?" You confront them and keep your tone calm to not trigger anyone.
It's not a genuine connection if you needed five kisses to convince you that you're emotionally connected so yeah, you doubt that Rio and Mikaela have it.
"If you had that genuine connection, what would you do?" Rio says in his defense.
"I don't know, maybe try a bit harder?" Han finally lets out an opinion with an insinuating tone, driven by the slight anger he gets from Avery and Asher's kiss.
"That's just a waste of money," Finn mutters from his bed and a deep sigh.
"Is that all, Lana?" You ask, wanting to get it over with.
"There was another breach of the rules," Lana shares.
You don't even hold yourself back from groaning and rolling your eyes. You didn't plan to get this mad but hearing these people kissing and spending money recklessly ticked you off.
"We'll have no money," Finn mutters again and collapses onto the bed.
"Why are you smiling, Peyton?" Asher asks.
Peyton is indeed smiling and looking calm for a guilty man, "I kissed Nya last night."
Sawyer raises her hand like she's in a classroom but that works to get everyone's attention, "Wait, I'm a little confused about it because you said you were going to pursue things with me," she drops a truth bomb out of nowhere.
Nya turns Peyton around to force him to look at her, "You said to me that you wanted me, not her," she spoils more rotten truth.
This whole thing turns into a she said, he said situation and you can only watch them, going back and forth, pointing fingers at each other.
"I hate being lied to," Sawyer mutters.
Peyton rubs his chin and concludes, "I never lied to you," he says to Sawyer.
Then he turns to Nya and tells her the same thing, "And I never lied to you."
Can't help it, you let out a stifled laugh because Peyton not only digging his own grave but also putting nails on his coffin.
The ones that benefited from this are Rio and Mikaela, the love triangle mess is taking the heat off of them.
"It's obviously not working," Nya ends things for good.
Thankfully, Lana takes control of the situation to deliver the bills.
"All of these rule breaks have made me decide to implement a stricter regime. The fines will now be doubled starting with these rule breaks."
Your jaw drops at the announcement and get dizzy thinking of how much those five kisses cost alone.
"These multiple rule breaks have cost the group $42,000," Lana updates.
You scoff at the amount of money spent on a few silly kisses and have to take a few deep breaths to calm yourself.
"The prize fund now stands at $155,000."
Everyone is just as gobsmacked by how much money has been lost from the prize and if everyone keeps doing it, all of you would likely go home with nothing.
-
YOU: We might as well pack our things now and go home [shrugs]
-
A week has passed and you start to feel that you're merely wasting time here.
Not much happened around here especially after Peyton and Nya's ship sank right after that messy fight. In the end, Peyton doesn't get either Nya or Sawyer and he deserves every bit of it.
The retreat is not only about couple growth but still... If only you had someone to try to make a connection with, you would enjoy this whole experience more.
You wake up in the morning, have a few cuddles with Han, and then everyone is moving on with their day. There's not much you can do here but you try to participate as much by not breaking the rules.
As if you have someone to do it with.
Avery joins you as you walk down to the beach to swim at the beach. With the low tide, you can sit on the beach with her to cool down after swimming.
"Avery baby, tell me, how are things with Asher?" You ask out of curiosity.
What Asher did that day, defending her and openly telling everyone how he feels about her, you expect her to be swooned if not smitten.
But from what you've been seeing, it seems like things have cooled down between them.
"To be honest, I don't know..." she is just as confused as you.
"But out of all the three boys, you like him right?" You try to make it simple for her.
"Yeah, I like Asher because he's great, he made the first move and got an edge to him..." she explains.
You nod and support your chin with the back of your hand, "What he did that day, I think that's very endearing of him," you give her your honest opinion just in case she needs an assurance from someone outside that relationship.
"Yeah, he was like... expressed his feelings and telling everyone how he feels about me," Her facial expression gradually turns sour as you sense a 'but' coming from her small mouth.
"But I just don't like when people are like that to me," she says with a repulsed expression.
"I get really..." she ends the sentence with a groan.
The problem with Avery is that she doesn't know what she wants. Other than that, now you know why Asher flirted with you this morning but knowing that he initially likes Avery makes you feel like you're his backup plan.
Here's the thing about you, you don't like being a second choice.
-
YOU: You know what, Lana? I think we need more dicks in the villa [laughs]
-
Han feels like his breakfast is about to come up as he hears the sound of that melodic chime. He hears it often enough yet he feels even more anxious the more he hears it.
"Please be good news," Han mutters next to you.
You put your hand on his thigh, playing with a lint of his swimming trunk.
"Hello, everyone!" Lana greets.
He turns his head at the same time you look at him, sending both of you burst into laughter.
"Here we go," Asher mutters with a nervous sigh.
"To further aid your personal growth, you must learn to resist your urges."
That catches his interest but also makes his heart start to beat faster. Lana is unpredictable and Han hates that.
"I have arranged two dates."
That makes some people relax, at least, it's not about losing more money from the prize fund. Han, personally, has not yet recovered from losing a quarter of the prize money.
"Both with new arrivals," Lana finishes her sentence.
Other than Rio and Mikaela, everyone else seems to be excited about this. New guests mean new chances to make a connection.
"I have allowed the new arrivals to select who they want to ask out on their date."
Han is having mixed feelings about this. He knows that Avery is no longer with Asher but he's slowly losing his interest in her. Maybe the new arrivals can help him move on.
"The first new arrival is... Gwen."
So it's a girl, well, Han can do something about this Gwen. He feels hopeful once again and maybe this time, triumph will be his.
"Gwen has chosen... Rio to be her date."
All eyes are on Mikaela as she tries so hard to remain calm about this but everyone knows that she's fuming inside.
"You seem happy, Rio," Asher teases him which Rio coyly responds with a shrug.
"And date number two will be with Fabian."
His head turns as he hears hears you cooing in wonder, "He sounds exotic," you mutter.
Nya is the most excited one and it's probably because she needs to show Peyton that he's got nothing on her anymore.
"Fabian has chosen... Nya to be his date."
Han doesn't know why he feels glad knowing that this new guy didn't choose you but does that make him the bad guy? He doesn't think so.
"Rio and Nya, you may leave to get ready for the date," Lana orders.
He hasn't seen the new arrivals yet but he can imagine the amount of drama he'll witness later with Rio going on a date with the new girl.
-
HAN: The new arrivals, uh... they can't be ugly, right Lana? [Snickers]
-
The first one to return from the date is Nya and she's bringing a man who's taller than Rio and talks in a French accent.
Han can see that Nya is already all over him and he glances at Peyton who ends up with no one but his own player ass. He just knew that Peyton had it coming for him since that game night when he boldly kissed two girls.
He grabs his first drink of the day with the staff only allowed every contest to take three drinks max and when he gets back to the terrace, he sees a gorgeous girl with blond hair.
Rio is introducing the girl around while Mikaela is intensely watching him from the cabana with furrowed brows and eyes filled with fiery glints like a hawk.
When it comes to his turn, he doesn't bother making a good first impression.
"Han," he simply tells her his name.
"I'm Gwen, hi," she introduces herself.
With the few inches he doesn't have, Gwen can easily put her arm around him for a quick hug, "Nice to meet you!"
Gwen is undeniably beautiful, anyone who looks at her would agree with him. Surprisingly, he's not as excited as he imagined he would be.
Well, the last thing he wants to do is compete to win a girl over and he doesn't want to entertain the idea that Gwen would take a liking to him.
Despite all that, Rio and Mikaela remain strong. Everyone is staying on the same bed and because Nya and Sawyer refuse to sleep with Peyton, he has to share the bed with Finn.
Han feels good knowing that he doesn't have to deal with such drama, he walks to his bed and does not hesitate to cuddle you.
"Hi, sexy bunny," he mutters close to your ear.
The two of you have this inside joke of calling each other silly, childish pet names and yesterday, you called him
'tater tot' and he laughs whenever he recalls it.
"Hi, bubble butt," you reply.
He laughs at that and playfully bites at your shoulder to get back at you. Somehow, the only one he can comfortably share his space with is you and he realizes how grateful he should be for your presence.
"Goodnight, everyone," Avery says while blowing kisses to everyone.
Han tickles your neck with his nose and purposely, breathes into your ear, "Goodnight!"
You giggle in reaction to his tickling breath, "Night!"
He presses a soft, lingering kiss on your head and that's how he ends his day on a sweet note.
-
HAN: I wasn't attracted to her but now I feel bad for not giving her any attention.
-
"It's like working out with Zeus, bro!" Han says, watching Rio working out non-stop while he's sitting on the mat, drenched in sweat for doing not even half of the workout Rio is doing.
Rio carefully lowers down the heavy dumbbells and reorganizes his breath as he takes a break.
"So, are you still chasing Avery?" Rio asks.
Han sucks water out of the bottle, then licks his lips before answering him, "Honestly speaking, I'm losing interest," he answers.
He knows that it'll be different to everyone but seeing what happened to her and Asher, there's a chance that things would likely end up the same.
He's tired of chasing and she keeps hanging up on him, "I think Avery enjoys the thrill, the chase..." he adds while running out of breath.
"Yeah, I think so too," Rio agrees with him.
He then lies down on his back and starts doing sit-ups as if his abs aren't as hard as rock already.
"What about that new girl then?"
"Gwen?"
"Yep, she's pretty," Rio says, being the one who went on a date with her.
"Are you going to make a move on her?"
Han caught Asher making the eyes with Gwen last night and he's not that interested to even try.
Looking at Rio tirelessly working out, he feels motivated to continue and picks up dumbbells.
"You know, I'm feeling it more with my bed partner," Han honestly says.
"I know you like her," Rio says with a glare at him.
He stops doing sit-ups and points at Han, "You just don't want to admit it."
Han has to pause on lifting his dumbbells to continue talking. He suddenly gets flustered because that's true, he keeps denying that there's something more between him and you.
"You two vibe really well," Rio says and he has never seen him being this earnest.
Han stops working out altogether and drops the dumbbells on the floor, "it's because Avery is so my type," he simply defends himself.
"But uh..." he pauses to catch a breath.
"But when I spend time with her, it's... natural," he explains and he doesn't care if that doesn't make sense to Rio, "It's so much fun."
Han breaks down on the floor and wipes the sweat on his forehead with the back of his hand, "I overlooked her because she doesn't look like my type."
Rio nods and intently listens to him speak.
"As soon as I saw Gwen last night, I was like... I still prefer her," he admits.
Han doesn't know why he can easily share his feelings with Rio, probably because he feels like a brother to him. Rio taps his shoulder hard enough that it launches him forward.
"You guys are cute together, and get along well, I don't see why you shouldn't try it, man!" He looks so annoyed and eager to see it happen.
Han laughs at that but he wishes he could easily share his feelings like this to you.
-
HAN: Maybe I should open up and accept how I'm feeling rather than keep seeking what's not there.
-
The mud is drying as you're walking back to the villa after having a girls-only workshop at the beach.
You share the shower with Sawyer to wash off the dried mud and waste no time getting ready for a party Lana throws to welcome the new arrivals.
The dressing room is crowded so you grab your make-up pouch to do it in the bathroom and you can do the hair later when it's less crowded in there.
For now, you're brushing your wet hair to the back while looking at your reflection in the mirror.
As you're about to apply moisturizer, you see Han walking into the bathroom and the first thing you see is that gummy smile of his.
"Hi, stud muffin," you playfully call him.
He would usually laugh at the pet names you called him but he only smiles in response, the kind that you've never seen on him.
"What's up?" You ask in wonder.
He doesn't say anything but leans against the sink facing you, looking at you with a cryptic smile dancing on his face.
He finally does something, walking up to you and placing his hands on each side of your waist. Slowly, he brings his mouth to your ear and whispers, "I missed you."
You reflexively burst into waves of laughter and think that he's just playing with you.
"I'm getting concerned," you tell him with a nervous laugh.
Han is also laughing and then he leans in to whisper again, "I miss you when you're not around."
You're giggling because the last thing you expect is to hear him saying that he missed you even though you've only been apart from each other for about three hours.
"Aww..." you coo at him, laughing the second your eyes meet in a gaze.
He cups your jaw then tilts your head, and you close your eyes in reflex. Instead of what you thought it would be, he softly whispers.
"I think I like you."

Bitterly Beautiful: Family Ties
Ireland
(Y/n) and Wednesday, a love story as old as time. Winter break had finally reached Nevermore and (Y/n) made a suggestion, to visit Ireland and for his bride to meet his family. Wednesday being the old fashion woman she is, she couldn’t say no.
A massive old ship sailed across the sea, being piloted by not humans but beings that ceased to exist, skeletons. All remains of pirates once plundering the seas for their fill now in service to the Healy name. Wednesday found this most fascinating, her eyes dance along the deck of the ship as she stands with (Y/n), he points to the Captian moving the ship with the wheel.
“You see the Captian and his crew died to a kraken if you could believe it. Tore their ship from the sea to the bottom of the ocean.” He explained, and Wednesday stared at their moving bones, flesh barely visible under the ragged clothes. “Fascinating.. Rigor mortis obviously has set in but their bodies seem to reject the stiffness.”
“Is that all you got from my story?” He replied.
“It’s all that I care to listen to.” She responded. A small laugh came from (Y/n). “I love you too Wednesday.” He steps forward with his cane and she follows. “My family is a bit more.. bombastic than yours.” He started, “So it might be a bit.. uncomfortable at first but they mean well..”
“As long as they don’t touch me, all will be well.” Her response was expected, but not particularly hated either. (Y/n) inhaled and turned around to the front of the ship.
“We’re here, the Rock of Cashel.” Wednesday turned as well, her eyes gazing upon a massive castle of limestone and rock. “It’s.. impressive.” She said, and he stepped up next to her. “Nice Family heirloom which I’ll eventually take over, I can give you the tour when we dock.. but I think my family wants to at least say hello because you recluse yourself.” He replied. Wednesday slightly pouts but goes with it. Docking at the waters near the castle, now more monsters. Oddly short human like people. They carted and carried their bags and belongings into the castle as (Y/n) and Wednesday sit and ride carriage upwards to the castle.
“Leprechauns?” She asked.
“Nope, Puca. Little known monsters here.” He responded, “They can transform into animals, sly little things.” (Y/n) leaned forward and looked in the direction of Wednesday.
“Admittedly, I didn’t expect you to say yes to visiting my family. Especially since it’s in a castle in a completely different continent.” He cracked a smile, but Wednesday kept a calm demeanor. “You handled my family exceptionally well, even with their.. issues. It’s only fair that I do the same for you.” She explained, she could see the gears turning in (Y/n)’s head as she says this, something was hidden under his smile but he kept it.
The duo arrive at the gate of the castle, which slowly opens the heavy wooden doors. The large hefty foyer looks right out of the 13th century. Paintings of battles of gods and men, marble statues of men and women chiseled. Tapestry of the Bloodline in perfect etching detail, all of it truly felt otherworldly.
“Impressive, isn’t it?” He said, Wednesday’s eyes scanned along the walls. “Admittedly it is.. do you have torture chamber as well?”
“That’s…” he started to speak but the sudden boom of footsteps approaching halted his speech, Wednesday and (Y/n) turned to the origin of the sound, the deep dark hallway which was lit barely but the encroaching flames of torches, Wednesday watches as a massive Fomorian titan stormed out of the hall. She took a step back and was prepared to run or fight. She looks to (Y/n) who wasn’t particularly changed by the presence.
“(Y/n) if you couldn’t hear there’s a towering monster before us!” She gripped his wrist and he tilts his head in her direction.
“I know, and it isn’t funny Aunt.” He said, the monster groans and pouts.
“I just wanted to see if the lass was as ice cold as you always said she was.” The monsters voice was booming, but also a feminine tone. Her body began to transform, bones shrinking, skin changing and hair growing, Wednesday was baffled and somehow amazed to watch the human body transform. A burly woman stood before her, hefty red hair and a strong jawline but a porcelain face. Her dress was a deep blue and hefty dress with a wolf fur coat around the neckline.
“Pale little thing isn’t she?” The woman leaned in, her lively emerald green eyes collided with Wednesdays cold and emotionally dead dark black eyes. “She isn’t pale she’s just.. you know.” (Y/n) mumbled, the woman offers a firm handshake, taking Wednesdays had without her say and shaking it strongly, Wednesday was taken aback by her terrifyingly firm grasp but soft skin. “Right, no sunlight.” Wednesday stepped back to avoid being hugged and crushed by the woman. “Wednesday, this is Aunt Dian.” (Y/n) steps in between them.
Wednesday stared at the woman, not able to form an accurate response to what she’s seeing. “Yes.. indeed.” Wednesday replied, and Dian turned around, “Alright! Now to your chambers, and you two won’t be sharing a room. Show her the way.” She eyes (Y/n) who acts as if he isn’t paying attention. The woman casually strolls away as the two head deeper into the castle.
“Why is she so… large?” Wednesday asked, “Genetics, reincarnation tends to have adverse effects on how your body functions and reforms. Dian was the God of Medicine here.” He tilts slightly to Wednesday, “There’s something I want to show you.” He said, “Much more interesting than a bedchamber.”
The two stroll out the hearty woods past the castle to a forest. A few spots of clearing were there but still surrounded thick trees.
“This place was a battle ground, graveyard I believe. Legend says you can hear the wails of the dead at night though the forest trees.”
“Was that legend created by you?” She ask sarcastically. “I mean… for the most part.” He admits, “I appreciate you not trying to kill my aunt when she shook your hand.” He thanks her, and kept walking forward. Wednesday halted in her footsteps and he turned to her direction.
“I’ll admit it took everything in my power to not succumb to death at her touch. It’s not like I could have escaped her iron grip anyway.” Wednesday adds in, (Y/n) shrugs. “Fair point.. but I’m glad you’re getting along with her, my cousins.. might be a bit more than you can handle.”
“Is that a challenge?”
“No, a warning, they’re kids they don’t know any better.” He gently took her hand, sensing her unwary gaze. “Something’s bothering you.. what is it?” He leaned in, Wednesday wanted to speak freely but, it felt like her lips were bound by a spell, and couldn’t form the words to speak.
The sudden pick up of wind cut off their moment, feeling the odd force of air current against them. Leaves spiraled and danced around them. “That’s… not good.”
“Are spinning leaves a bad omen?”
“No, but it’s just weird.” His response was calm, but wary. Wednesday looked around as the leaves rested and something caught her eye. “(Y/n).” She spoke, “There’s.. a body.”
“A..Body?” He turned to her direction and took a hearty step, the echo formed a wave to bounce sound off, and he felt it on the ground. The two slowly walked towards it. They came across a corpse on the ground, still and unmoving. “It feels like a woman..” (Y/n) knelt down with Wednesday.
“Black hair, late teens. She seems to have some sharp object in her hand, but her hand is, oddly stiff.. her body doesn’t look too cold to allow rigor mortis to set in.” Wednesday said, “Do you know her?”
“No, the servants aren’t human…” he reached and touched her neck, feeling a faint but warm pulse. “She’s alive… perhaps she’s sleeping.”
“Sleeping in the woods behind a castle?” Wednesday replied. “Well when you put it that way..” (Y/n) mumbled. “I’ll just wake her up.”
“Are you sure? All circumstances point to this ending very poorly for you.” Wednesday points out, “We help people Wednesday.. would be wrong of me to leave her here, plus you’re overthinking.”
(Y/n) gently placed his fingers on her forehead, his middle and pointer finger poking the center of her brow. “Eirich bhon aisling gun chrìoch” he spoke a spell and the woman’s eyes slowly opened. (Y/n) confidently turned to Wednesday. “See not a problem—“
Before (Y/n) could confidently tell his girlfriend, the strange woman moves with blinding speed, the sharp object rammed straight between his fourth and fifth rib. It was so fast (Y/n) didn’t have time to even react before falling back and gripping the blade, Wednesday blinked and the next thing she knew he was on the ground in pain. Rushing to his side she saw the knife and held it. “Calm down.. panicking makes you loose more blood. Relax and take a deep breath.” Wednesday caressed his forehead, and with a swift motion yanks the blade from his chest. (Y/n) quickly put his hand on his wound to slow the bleeding. The mystery woman wasn’t angry or sad, she was stunned at what she did, her glossy eyes looked over to the two and immediate guilt washed over her.
“Holy.. shit. I am so sorry!” She pleads, Wednesday turns to her with nothing but cold dead hatred. “I should fill your eyes with hot coals for what you’ve done.” Wednesday rarely shows emotion, but what she does it’s intense, and nothing is more intense than hate.
“It’s fine.. I’m.. fine..” (Y/n) sits up, “Just need.. to get home.. okay?” He asked Wednesday, she turned to the girl. “If you truly are sorry then you’ll help us.. after that.. we’ll see.” Wednesday began to help (Y/n) up, and the mystery girl did as well and essentially carried the boy back home.
Wednesday finished the last seam of her sewing the wound shut as (Y/n) bared his chest and lifted his arms up in her room. Sitting at a desk and across from each other the partners were silent, (Y/n) with pain and Wednesday with worry. The mysterious girl was leaning against a wall, fiddling with her fingers and obviously embarrassed.
“Again… I am.. so sorry.”
“Don’t worry about it, isn’t the first time I’ve been stabbed or shot.” (Y/n) shrugs, “just a new scar that my girlfriend finds pretty hot huh?” He tilts his head to Wednesday, who looks away trying to keep her composure.
“Your stab wasn’t deep enough to puncture the heart thankfully, but you knew how to stab in between the ribs and the right place to land a fatal blow, impressive.” She admits. The girl smiled, even if she was fighting back guilt. “Oh uh, thanks.. my mom taught me a lot, honestly I was scared to death I killed you.. my hair allowed went white, it’s.. black so you would have noticed..” she said, which was a major screw up.
(If you knew why, congrats.)
“Why did you say that?” Wednesday said, the girl raised an eyebrow. “Uh.. what do you mean?” She asked dumbfounded. She slowly stood up, grabbing a pair of scissors.
“You pointed out your hair color as if you knew one of us couldn’t see it…” Wednesday pointed out, which made (Y/n) raise his eyebrow, he slowly turns to the direction of the girl.
“She’s right.. I didn’t have my cane and my glasses are pretty normal.. how did you know I was blind?” He said, and a look of utter panic was on her face.
“You knew who we were, and you attacked..” Wednesday took a step closer.
“I’m sure you have some explanation.. right?” (Y/n) also stood up, and the girl sighed and shook her head.
“Dad’s gonna kill me…” she sighed and looked up at them. “Okay… my name, Is Fall Monday Healy.”
(Y/n)’s face twists to confusion. “.. Who?” He asked in disbelief and Fall gave an awkward and sad smile, “I’m from the future… so.. Hi Mom, Hi Dad.” She looks at them. (Y/n) and Wednesday turn to each other, it seems this break has taken a very interesting turn.

II. Predator or Prey?
CH 8 (6.6k) | The Night You Left |
Joel barely sleeps, tossing and turning in his bed with his clothes on, knuckles bloody and burning, throat raw from screaming. He wakes up to hushed whispers outside his door and he throws it open, inexplicably hoping to see you out there. Instead he sees a sea of terrified faces, Sasha tucking Beth behind her, Tess peering out from the bathroom with Rosie holding a cold cloth over her swollen face. Kerri is further down the hall, sweeping up chunks of drywall and dust on the floor from the holes he’d punched into the wall hours earlier.
He looks back towards Tess. Fuck. She looks awful, already two swollen black eyes and a split lip. What kind of a monster does that to someone?
“Tess, I–”
“I’ll be alright Joel,” she reassures. “Why don’t you head over to the baths and get cleaned up?”
She knows he can’t be seen in the state he’s in. What would people think? They’d think he’d fuckin’ lost it is what they’d think. And they’d be right.
Joel heads to the old plaza, a ten minute walk down the street and around the corner, to the old salon now serving as the town bath house. This early in the morning he knows no one is going to be here so he lets himself in through the back door. He checks the tank of the town’s only working hot water heater and begins to fill one of the stock tank tubs, shucking his clothes off and climbing in. The water stings his raw knuckles as he scrubs at his body, washing away bits of dusty drywall and blood – his or Tess’, he can’t tell.
Fuck, he fucked up. He shouldn’t have reacted like that. He shouldn’t have done that to Tess. This is what you fucking do to him, this is the effect you have on him. You bring out the worst in him. All you ever did was distract him, tempt him, tease him, and reject him. He saved your life, fed you, clothed you, protected you, and put a roof over your head. And how did you repay him?
Resentment. Neglect. Defiance. Abandonment.
What did he even see in you? He thought you were brave, but you were so soft on the inside. He thought you were smart, but he watched you act like such a fucking fool. He thought you were beautiful, but you wouldn’t even let him say it. He thought you were wild, but he tamed you so easily. He was wrong about you. He tells himself that he’s glad you’re gone and that he’s better off without you around anyway.
—
The first Thursday without you, Joel takes Beth to the meeting, despite complaining that he’d rather go alone. Beth had already gotten to work making clothes and this would be a good opportunity for her to give some out to the families that lived further out of town, at least that’s what Tess had said. He’d never admit it, but he held his breath when a group of people led by the tall and imposing Hank walked in the room, someone else trailing just behind. Several people shifted and Joel saw it was just Hank’s little girl, blushing bright red when she caught him looking at her.
Shit. He’s not sure why he let himself think it might be you. Hank hadn’t brought you to the church meeting on Sunday so why did he let that tightness grow in his stomach thinking he’d bring you to the Thursday meetings the way he used to bring Beth? Whatever. He doesn’t even want to see you. He continues to be in a foul mood all week and despite pleading with Tess for forgiveness – which she gives him – all the women in the house seem to avoid him.
The second Thursday he notices Hank’s young daughter, who’d introduced herself several times as Amber, following his every move, watching him, sitting next to him, hanging on his every word with rapt attention. The little girl must have a crush. How inconvenient. But wait, he might be able to use this to his advantage. He’d noticed you ducking behind Hank’s oversized frame at church the past Sunday, avoiding him like the plague, and decided he was going to give you a taste of your own medicine.
Fuck you, you little ingrate, he’s gonna ignore the shit out of you right back.
He purposely avoided looking in your direction during his speech and sat with his back to you during dinner. He made sure to act like the perfect leader, loving and gentle, graciously accepting people’s well wishes for Tess’ illness – the cover-up for why she’d been in the house for over a week while her face healed up. Within earshot of you he gives attention to every other female Valley member, even going so far as to bring people into his embrace, hugging them tight.
He’s like an oily politician – kissing babies and shaking hands – but he hopes you see it all. He hopes you feel sick over it, feel jealous, feel regret. He hopes you feel the loneliness rotting in your gut like he does. But how will he know? How will he know if he can’t see you, can’t talk to you? He needs access to you, someone for you to confide in, someone on the inside. Little Amber will do nicely.
He strikes up a conversation with her, bumping up the charm to an eleven. He opens with some mildly flirtatious banter, asks some questions about her – women love that shit – before getting to the point.
“Hear you got a new roommate over there,” he postures casually.
“Yeah, she’s great,” Amber beams.
“She is?”
“Oh– ummm,” her brow furrows. “Isn’t she?”
“I don’t know,” he chuckles, “You tell me.”
“She’s alright, yeah… I mean, she– she’s fine.”
“Well you should let me know if she does anything to bother you.” His voice is smooth and buttery.
“I should?”
“Well yeah,” Joel touches his hand briefly to her chin, “I gotta make sure you’re happy, don’t I?”
“Oh,” she giggles, face flushing immediately.
“So make sure you tell me what’s goin’ on, okay?”
“Yeah I will,” she tries to suppress her smile. “I– I definitely will.”
“Anything at all, even if you think it might not be important.” He makes sure she’s looking at him and drops his voice an octave. “Anything at all, okay, sweetheart?” He winks to seal the deal.
It was almost too easy, turning little Amber into his own private mole. Every Thursday he gave her a couple minutes of attention and she folded, playing right into his hand and spilling everything you two had talked about over the past week. She told him where you went, what you did, who you talked to, and even what anyone else in the house said about you. Apparently Hank’s wife was missing Beth and Joel briefly thinks of telling Tess to make a switch back, but then gets angry at you again and changes his mind.
You don’t deserve his forgiveness, you’re not missing him enough, not even close to being as miserable as you could be. Amber had told him that you’d cried yourself to sleep almost every night the first week but then the other day after the church meeting he’d watched you hunch down behind little Amber – barely five feet tall – trying to hide from him. Your stubborn pride is gonna make it even more satisfying when you come crawling back to him, begging him to let you come back home.
Amber tells him when you’ve stopped crying at night but says you still spend a lot of time on your own, wandering the edges of the property. She catches you up in the hayloft all the time, or napping with the baby goats. She says you don’t spend any time with Danny or Diego, the ranch hands, so he resists his urges to take them by the collar and threaten to bury them alive if they so much as look at you.

Joel woke up in the mornings feeling empty, like his chest had been broken open and hollowed out, all of his internal organs scooped onto the ground. The only thing that remained inside him was a deep-seated ache. He tried to soothe it with conversation but Tess didn’t want to hear it, kept telling him it’s better this way and to move on. He tried to temper his loneliness with touch, but when he reached for Sasha’s hand after dinner one night she ripped it out of his grip. One evening, in a particularly weak moment, he nuzzled into Kerri’s neck while she was washing dishes, her hands occupied and covered in suds.
“Oh,” she squeaked, startled by his touch.
“Hey,” he said, muffled against her skin, twitching under the brush of his beard.
“I’m not really–” she started.
He didn’t let her finish. He was out of the room before she could even finish her sentence. How fucking pathetic was he? He didn’t even want her – not really – and she couldn’t even stand to be touched by him. This is what you’ve done to him, this is what you’ve made him. He’s been ruined by you.
When it's been just over a month since you left, things at the house finally get back to a sense of normalcy again. For a while, Tess was the only one speaking to him, and besides the Thursday meetings Beth was assigned to accompany him to, she avoided him like the plague. Kerri wouldn’t meet his eyes, Rosie shuffled away from him whenever he entered a room, and Sasha gave him dirty looks every time she passed him in the halls. But with time, things were improving. There was a low hum of conversations around the dinner table now – none of them involving him – but at least everyone else was happy.
The following Sunday Amber traps him in a corner and starts saying shit about coming to live with him. He has no idea where she got this idea in her head but she keeps trying to touch the buttons on his shirt and he’s doing everything in his power not to swat her little fucking hands away. He sees Tess giving him a look and he knows. He knows he needs to get away from her, that people can see him, that people will talk. What if you see him? You’re never gonna come back home if you think he’s messing around with this annoying child. He has to stop using her for information, he has to cut her off.
The following Thursday marks the end of February and Amber’s reports have gotten brief and repetitive. Walks alone along the pastures, always has her nose in a book at bedtime, late to every meal (much to her mother’s chagrin). She tells him that you only leave the farm on Sundays for church and on Wednesdays for your bath, having to settle for a weekly wash at the Covered Bridge Inn another mile down the road with some of the other farming families. He bets you’re missing your three soaks a week since you left town.
Joel decides to cut Amber off then and there, she’s not giving him anything he doesn’t already know and he needs more, he wants more. He needs to fill that emptiness inside him and you’re the only thing that can make him feel whole again. He’s barely looked at you in weeks, always avoiding watching you directly, not wanting to give you the satisfaction of thinking he gives a fuck. He doesn’t, not really. He just wants to soothe the hole you left. He convinces himself he just needs a taste, just needs a peek. He just needs to see if you’re missing him, to make sure you’re suffering the way he is, the way you should be. He wants to see it for himself. Then he can get over you – move on – like Tess says he should.
He waits until the following Wednesday and makes a trip out to the Mansfield’s farm when he knows you’ll be gone for your bath. Only Hank remains on the farm to greet him but is honored and excited by Joel’s presence. Joel makes up something about wanting to visit Hank because of how much he respects all of his hard work, but asks Hank to not spread the word lest the other farmers be jealous. Hank nods in agreement as he shows Joel around the property and then welcomes him into his humble home.
When Joel excuses himself to use the bathroom he takes a walk around the upstairs, checking each bedroom to find yours, recognizing it when he sees one of your old shirts on the bed. He lifts your pillow to his face, huffing in your familiar scent. Under your pillow is a book, paperback cover worn and tattered, Of Mice and Men by John Steinback. Joel stuffs it in his waistband and pulls his shirt back down, heading back downstairs to tell Hank he should get going.
There’s no mention of his visit by his little spy the next night so, he assumes Hank kept it a secret and you were none the wiser. He wants to go to the farm again, he wants to have another piece of you. Just one more taste, just one more. He waits until late in the day on the following Wednesday and, avoiding traps he and his patrols helped set, he rides out and sneaks onto the property from the neighboring fields. Hank is working out in the far pasture and doesn’t even notice Joel’s surreptitious arrival.
The house is unlocked and he goes straight to your room, this time laying down in your bed, letting himself soak in the scent of you wafting off the sheets. He thinks of you crawling in the bed every night at the end of a long day working your ass off on this farm, a big change from the cushy life you had back home. He knows you only get a bath once a week here, and he can smell your scent on the sheets strongly. He smells sweat, dirt, farm animals, and a trace of tangy milk. You must change the sheets when you get back from your bath. This must be the most pungent they smell all week.
He grabs his dick overtop his pants, he can feel it already hard and aching at the thought of you. He wishes he had more time to lie here, to really be able to enjoy himself, but he made up an excuse to Tess and she’ll be suspicious if he’s gone too long. He takes his hand away from the front of his pants and instead grabs your pillow, throwing it over his face to breathe it in a final time. He gets up, adjusting himself, and takes a step towards the door before he doubles back and snatches your pillowcase off the pillow, stuffing it down the front of his shirt.
—
He’s panting slightly as he makes his way in the back door of his house, having had to jog from the stables, cutting through the town park so he’d be back before Tess started wondering where he was. Kerri gives him a sideways glance and an empty smile, quickly turning her head back to her meal preparation. Tess and Sasha come up from the basement holding jars of preserved vegetables.
“Where you been?” Tess asks.
“I told you,” he tries to stifle his heavy breathing. “I had to help Peter out with his solar panel issue.”
“But Peter’s wife Georgia just came by here not even ten minutes ago and asked how you were doin’,” she says, looking confused.
“Yeah well it wasn’t at his house,” Joel thinks quickly. “He’s been tryin’ to get it fixed up for little old Miss Betty, out– umm… over there by the woods.” He picked the most remote, home-bound person he could think of, hoping it would cover his ass.
“Oh, she needs power? For what?” she asks, setting down the jars on the counter with Sasha, not giving Joel her full attention anymore. He uses the opportunity to move out of the kitchen towards his office.
“I dunno, just helpin’ out Peter,” he says and then ducks out of the room before she can question him further.
Once he closes his office door he pulls out your pillowcase from under his shirt and balls it up to his face, sniffing it more. He sticks it in the bottom desk drawer under the maps, where he keeps your lost pair of underwear, your rejected christmas gift, and the book he took from under your pillow on his previous visit. Something scratches at him from deep inside, something that might resemble guilt. He shakes it off. He has nothing to feel guilty for. If you want underwear, books, or your pillowcase so bad you can come back home and have them.
—
He can’t even wait until next Wednesday to go over to the farm. Sunday morning rolls around – he’s spent all weekend planning this moment – and he gives a well-rehearsed speech to Tess about being sick. He doubles over in his bed and clutches his middle, groaning until her face softens and she puts the back of her hand to his forehead the way his mom used to. She brings him some water and rice and tells him to get some rest before heading to the services with everyone else in the house.
Once he’s left alone he jumps out of bed, throwing the covers off like a child on Christmas morning. He knew that if he went to church he’d be able to see you, maybe fill a little bit of his craving. But since he doesn’t really look at you, how much of you can he actually see? Knowing that Hank would bring your entire household to the service meant the farmhouse would be empty. He can sneak over there while everyone is preoccupied and have his fill of your scent, of the ghost of your presence. He needs this, he tells himself, he needs a little bit more before he stops, before he gets over you.
He doesn’t want to take a horse this time, wants to leave no trace of where he’s going or risk anyone seeing him riding out. Most of the town is at the church service but he wants to be extra cautious. He heads out the back door and ducks into the trees beyond the yard, making the long way around the populated square to hit the fence-line. He finds a well-worn path through two fence sections and, avoiding the traps he knows are there, darts south towards the farm.
Joel’s knees are aching by the time he hits Hank’s property, heart pounding and feet throbbing, having set a brutal pace to make the trip in just about thirty minutes. His chest is heaving to catch his breath as he crosses over the creek and walks up the small hill to the old farmhouse standing like a silent monument above the pastures.
He takes his time on this visit, going through your side of the dresser, recognizing the clothes you had before, touching the fabric with his fingers that he would feel beneath his touch whenever he held you in the mornings. He looks in the closet – mostly Amber’s clothes – but sees a nice dress in there he assumes Hank intended for you to wear to church. Joel’s never seen you in a dress, maybe no one here has either, since you’ve certainly never worn this one.
He takes off his clothes and climbs in your bed, lying face flat on your pillow, and smells you. Not your soap or shampoo, but you, the real you. The you he used to smell when you were at home, when you were in his arms, when you were his. Before you left him, before you broke him, before he was empty. He slowly humps against the bed – his cock rubbing the worn, softened sheets – and thinks of you.
He imagines you coming back and catching him, throwing your arms and legs around him, crying how much you miss him and kissing him until he agrees to take you home. His come spills on your sheets and he throws the blanket back over top, leaving the mess for you to find. Part of him hopes you know it was him. He puts half his clothes on and then begins to get sleepy, having stayed up half the night going over and over in his head his plans for today. He lies down on top of the bed just to rest his eyes for a moment.
He doesn’t hear the horses pull up with the wagon outside, or the door opening and people entering the house downstairs. He doesn’t hear anything until there’s footsteps on the stairs coming towards where he’s still half naked and just awake. Shit. He jumps up and grabs the rest of his clothes off the floor, kicking his boots under your bed and jumping in the closet just as Amber bursts in the room, humming a hymn and babbling about how she wants to make soup to send to him. You hum in assent but otherwise say nothing.
He wishes he could see you, but he’s pushed himself into the closet and to the side as much as possible. He is half-covered by a mothball-smelling crocheted cardigan and a mildew-smelling old raincoat. He hears the soft sounds of fabric and the wooden creak of dresser drawers, then you both silently shuffle out of the room and down the stairs. He waits a long time until he's sure the coast is clear and manages to get himself dressed, pull on his shoes, and make it downstairs.
He hides in a closet for several hours, hearing Amber and her mother all around the first floor, cleaning and cooking and gossipping to each other. Where are you? Are you in the hayloft like Amber said you like to be? Are you feeding goats or milking cows? He wants to see you but he knows he has to go, knows he’s stayed too long. Everyone has been back at his house for hours and Tess will most definitely be wondering where the fuck he went to.
It’s mid-afternoon by now and he knows he can’t waste anymore time. He ducks out of the closet and runs for the closest patch of trees as quickly as he can. As soon as he’s in the cover of the woods he starts thinking of the shit show he’s gonna walk into. Tess is gonna give him the third degree. He left no note, no indication of where he would be. What excuse is he even gonna give? He played sick so convincingly and now what is he gonna do? What can he tell her that will be believable?
His mind is racing with a hundred different thoughts and he’s trying to ignore the sting of the cold air in his lungs and the burning of his thighs as he presses forward up another hill. He’s sure that’s why he misses the trap. Because he knows where they all are, he helped set almost every single one. He has a map in his office with all of them marked off, directs the patrols to check and maintain them. He knows better. But he’s distracted. You’ve distracted him. This is all your fault. That’s all he can think as he feels the trap clamping over his ankle and the biting pain shooting up his leg. This is all your fuckin’ fault.
Joel loses his balance quickly as the counterweight trips and yanks his leg out from under him. He sees the whole world flip and feels the fire of tearing flesh licking up his leg. He comes to rest with his shoulders on the ground, his head brushing against the fallen leaves, but the lower half of his body lifted up in the air, strung up in the tree by his ankle. Shit, this is a good trap, he was so proud when he thought of it and now he can confirm that it’s quite debilitating and extremely painful.
—
The sun has started setting when Joel hears a single step behind him and he whips his head around, facing a lone figure, light hair braided over her shoulder, pack on her back stuffed full. Sasha.
“Hey honey… I didn’t hear ya coming,” he groans, shifting uncomfortably.
“Yeah, Joel,” she looks him over quickly, “That’s kinda the point.”
She opens her mouth to ask a question – probably something akin to what the fuck are you doing out here – but then she looks southward, towards the still-visible fields of the dairy farm, and back at him. She closes her mouth, deciding not to ask something she already knows the answer to. Instead she looks him up and down, taking in the scene in the fading light.
“You uhh… you want me to get you down from there?”
“Well what’s the alternative, honey?” He motions around. “You gonna leave me here?”
“I could…” her face remains impassive, considering her options, “But Tess would probably miss you.”
Joel lets out a huff and gives her a partial smile, it’s as much as he can manage having been stuck like this for far too long. Sasha throws her pack down and fishes some bolt cutters out of the back, reaching them above Joel’s ankle and cutting a chain link rather easily. Joel's body unceremoniously slams down to the forest floor, knocking the wind out of his lungs.
“Jesus Christ, Joel,” she mutters, kneeling down to check him over. “What’d you think was gonna happen when I cut it?”
“I dunno honey but I’m not a fuckin’ gymnast. I’ve been hangin’ upside-down for hours, so I’m kinda at the whim of gravity right now.
“Well twinkle toes, good thing you’re not training for the olympics, because your leg looks absolutely fucked. We need to get you to the clinic ASAP.”
Yeah yeah yeah Joel grumbles, grunting and groaning as Sasha helps him to his feet, leaning into his side so she can support his weight on his bad side.
“Is your horse nearby?”
“Didn’t bring a horse,” he sighs.
“Joel, we’re still over a mile away from home and your leg–”
“Well we better get going then, huh?”
“But, Joel–”
“Time’s a wastin’ honey, let’s go.”
—
By the time the doctor finishes wrapping Joel’s ankle, he can already see the blood seeping through the bottom layers of the bandages. She’s given him some expired meds for the pain that are managing to take the edge off, but he’s still extremely uncomfortable. He’s not gonna tell her that though.
“I’m gonna need to see you tomorrow to clean and redress this wound.”
“I can come by after–”
“No,” she interrupts. “No, Joel, I’ll make a house call, you shouldn’t be walking on this at all. This needs to be elevated so the swelling can go down.” She wraps the second layer tighter and Joel bites back a noise. She notices. “That’s why it’s leaking like this, you didn’t elevate it,” she scolds, and then murmurs under her breath, “And you walked a mile on it.”
“Well I knew you made house calls but I didn’t think you’d make middle-of-the-forest calls.”
She makes a noise that sounds like hmmm, and grabs another roll of gauze to keep wrapping around. He’s not sure if she bought his story, that he and Sasha were scavenging together and he wasn’t looking where he was going, but she removed the trap from his ankle and gave him a tetanus shot and some antibiotics. He didn’t even realize she had all of that here but she opened a locked cabinet and there was a secret stash of medicines, just waiting for him.
Since he was hanging upside-down he didn’t lose much blood and the doctor told him she doubts there’s a broken bone, given that the trap clamped down above the ankle bones and more into the meat of his leg. She is worried about infection, of course, and said that the way it pulled on his leg could take a while for the muscles to heal. How long did Sasha leave you hanging there she kept asking and he kept explaining that they’d split up to cover more ground, and she’d found him when he missed their meet-up time.
“I think that’s enough, Doc, quit fussin’ over me,” he tells her as he shifts on the bed to get up. “Get Sasha for me and I’ll head home, and don’t worry, I’ll keep it elevated.”
“Sasha left after she dropped you off Joel,” she leans back and points to the doorway, where one of the clinic staff has rolled in a rusted wheelchair. “We’re gonna take you.”
“I’m not getting in that thing.”
“Oh cut it out, you already got your tetanus shot.”
—
He gets out of the chair and stumbles up the front steps, forbidding them from helping him through the door and promising to elevate his leg and keep it that way, trying to keep his voice in a whisper and not disturb the house. He hops inside and his fears are immediately realized when he sees Tess waiting for him at the dining room table. Their eyes meet and they stare at each other in silence for a long while before she rises out of her chair and points to an empty one.
“I’ll get you some ice,” she says, walking into the kitchen.
Joel sits in the chair and Tess comes back in, motioning for him to put his leg up on the bench next to him, setting a cloth ice pack gently on his injured leg. She slowly sits down and resumes looking at him. A long silence passes between them.
“You gonna make me ask?”
“Ask what?” he says casually, then she pins him with a look and he drops all pretense, shrugging his shoulders. “I’m sure Sasha already told you.”
“She didn’t tell me why.”
“Why? You already know that too.”
“I know you were out there at the farm, Joel, sneakin’ around, messin’ with her stuff, fuckin’ with her head, I don’t know what all you get up to. But why, Joel? Why?”
“What do you care, anyway?”
“Why can’t you leave her alone?” she hisses
“Why is that any of your fuckin’ business?”
Tess slams her hand down on the table and hisses, “You made it my business when you brought her into my house.”
“Your house, is it?”
“You’re goddamn right it’s my house, and I take care of everyone in it. I sent her to the farm to get some relief from you and your behavior, and you can’t show one ounce of self control? Who the fuck are you?”
“I don’t think–”
“No, you’re not thinkin’, that’s the problem,” she interrupts. He’s stunned into silence. “I’ve taken a lotta shit in my life, Joel, and I’ll keep taking it if it’s for the greater good. I’ve followed you around for years and I’m loyal, but I ain’t stupid. I see you slipping. Everyone does. Everything I’ve done for you, everything I’ve sacrificed for you… you gotta play your role.”
“I’m tired of it,” he whispers.
“You’re not tired of everything it gets you.”
He grumbles at that and mutters something like it doesn’t get me what I really want, and she knows he means you. She knows he still wants you, even when he pretends like he doesn’t. She sees the way he purposely avoids you and looks the other way when you come near. It’s all bullshit bravado, and she fuckin’ knows it. She knows he’s sad, lonely, heartbroken without you. But she needs him to either put up or shut up. Admit it or move on. She can’t have him stuck in this loop of destruction.
“Leave her be, Joel. It’s done with her, it’s over.”
—
Two weeks go by in a blur, Joel doesn’t sneak away to the farm, he avoids Amber at the Thursday meetings, he steers clear of you at the Sunday service. He goes where Tess tells him to go, meets with who she tells him to meet with. His leg heals well and he’s back on his feet much sooner than the doctor expected him to be. He spends his days working with the gardeners in town to get ready for spring planting, and the evenings working in his office to schedule patrols and plan maintenance for sections of the perimeter fencing.
He keeps his head down and keeps his mind occupied. He starts to feel better, and then he’ll lie in bed at night and he’ll hear the door to the tiny room across the hall close and remember you’re not there. It cuts like a knife in his hollow chest, the slow thumping of his heart echoing in its empty chamber. He feels bad for going the whole day without missing you and his stomach gets tied up in knots over everything that happened.
He tries so hard not to think of you, to keep his mind busy with anything else… until he can’t. Until everyone stands up as he introduces Bianca’s baby to the community and then everyone sits back down and there you are. You’re standing in the middle of a pew halfway back, staring daggers through him. Looking at him like he just slapped you in the face. He can’t help but look at you – for the first time in over two months – and watch you come undone.
He sees you run out of the sanctuary and only Tess’ iron grip clawing at his elbow keeps him from running after you. After the service he tells her he’ll meet them in the hall for lunch and she reluctantly leaves him, mouthing behave yourself as she goes.
And then you’re in front of him again, the both of you looking into each other’s eyes. There’s so much fire in yours, he hasn’t seen you look like this since the first day he saw them, backed into a corner of the clinic like a trapped animal, teeth bared and ready to pounce. You start snapping at him, biting him with your words, and he can’t fucking help himself. He bites at you right back. Every sharp barb of your tongue, every click of your fangs, he’s spurred on to hiss and claw in response. You call him a liar and then tell him you don’t care when it couldn't be more obvious that you do.
Why won’t you just admit that you care? Why won’t you just admit that you miss him? Why are you so afraid of the truth?
You brush by him, purposely knocking his arm with your shoulder as you exit and when he turns to follow you he sees Tess in the doorway. She walks up to him and he doesn’t even realize he’s crying until her arms close around him and he’s sobbing into her shoulder.
“She hates me,” he heaves.
“She doesn’t hate you, Joel,” she hushes.
“She does. She thinks that was my baby.”
“Did you tell her it wasn’t?”
“No,” he sniffles.
“Why the fuck not?”
“Cause I’m incapable of doing the right thing. I just keep fucking up,” he sobs. “I keep doing the wrong thing every fucking time. I grab her, I hurt her, I say the wrong thing, I fuck it all up.”
“Why do you think that is?”
“I don’t fuckin’ know,” he wails.
“I do, I know why.”
“Why then?” Joel sniffles.
“It’s easier for you to push her away than it is to let her in.”
—
Joel is sitting in silence at the dinner table later that night, mindlessly picking at his plate, lost in his thoughts. The meal has long-since finished and the women are clearing the table, moving in and out of the kitchen and talking with each other. Beth is excitedly telling them about a barn cat who had kittens last year and everyone is gushing over the talk of adorable kittens.
Joel remembers Sarah finding two abandoned kittens after a soccer game one cloudy May afternoon, two flea-infested little rats hiding behind the practice field’s bathrooms. She’d carried them in her shirt back to him, all three of them crying, begging him to let her keep them. He said no a hundred times but still wound up driving all of them all the way across town to the only vet’s office open on a Saturday. Hundreds of dollars later they were stuffed full of medicine and food and were sleeping curled up in the crook of Sarah’s neck.
She told him she understood when he said they couldn’t keep them forever – allergies, he’d explained – but that didn’t stop big, fat tears from rolling down her face when she placed them into the arms of their new owners.
“You did such a good job taking care of them,” he’d told her, wiping away her tears. “You should be so proud. Look how big they got! You did that! You gave them a shot at a great life.”
“You did it too, dad,” she’d said, hugging him, telling him he also did a good job.
He didn’t do shit, he just couldn’t say no to her. And she thought he hung the moon. She thought he was some kind of a saint. Joel Miller, patron saint of disgusting, sickly little kittens. The man she thought he was… he could never be that man. Not then. Not now. Not after everything he’s done.
And then he realizes he’s sobbing again, at the dinner table, and everyone is staring at him.
“Y– You okay, Joel?” Beth asks.
“Yeah,” he sniffles. “I was just… thinkin’ about Sarah.”
“Who’s Sarah?” Kerri says.
“Can everyone give us a minute?” Tess says.
The room quickly clears and Joel is still sputtering and sniffling at the head of the table. Tess sits down next to him and he slides off his chair, kneeling on the floor and burying his head in her lap, tears rolling down his face and soaking her jeans. He’s muttering I can’t lose her too and sobbing and Tess thinks this might be it, he might finally be ready to face it.
“What’s wrong, Joel?” Tess asks gently.
“She left me, I fucked up and she left, I don’t deserve her, she hates me, I’m a monster and she hates me and I don’t do anything right and I just fail over and over and she can’t stand me and all I do is–” his cries, devolve into a blubbering mess.
—
It’s just before midnight and the house is dark and quiet. Only a lamp in the living room casts a glow on them – Tess and Joel on the couch – where they’ve been sitting and talking for hours. He’s finally calmed down, having talked through months-worth, if not years-worth, of feelings with her. Things they’ve already talked about, things she’s suspected but never had confirmed, and secrets they’ve kept even from each other. It felt cathartic, like a weight lifted from the both of them, and they sit in companionable silence before they head up to bed.
A loud, frantic knocking at the front door makes both of them jump. Tess goes to answer it and all Joel hears is a tandem of words, spilling out like a waterfall so quickly he can only catch some of them. Not in bed… looked everywhere… can’t find... He gets up from his seat and heads to the door, freezing when he sees Danny and Diego’s harrowed faces standing on his darkened porch.
“W– what’s goin’ on?” Joel asks, looking between the two men and Tess.
Tess grabs his arm, bracing him.
“She left.”

aka the sorority! alpha kappa alpha!!
I tried my best to do research on AKA the sorority since I'm not from America. I hope I do this ask justice. I also wrote it from Ony's pov to try something different
Title: Pink & Green Pride
The courtyard at Howard is buzzing with life tonight, the kind of night that makes you feel like you’re part of something bigger. The kind of night everyone on campus will talk about for days. Y/N’s AKA chapter has been organizing this event for weeks, pulling in crowds from every corner of campus. The energy is infectious, and the night’s only getting started.
I’m standing off to the side, just taking it all in. I’ve been to a few AKA events before, but tonight’s different. Y/N’s in the center of it all, and damn, she’s shining like the stars. From head to toe, she’s draped in pink and green—her pearls sparkling in the light, her smile brighter than anything else in the courtyard. She's not just part of the crowd; she commands it. Moving through the sea of people with that confidence that’s all her own, laughing, hyping everyone up—she’s in her element, and it’s beautiful to watch.
After a while, her sisters start lining up for the step/stroll portion of the night. You can feel the air shift. The crowd quiets down, every person on the edge of their seat, waiting for the magic to happen. The AKAs begin their routine, and I find myself leaning forward, eyes glued to Y/N.
The energy they bring? It’s unmatched. The synchronized beats, the rhythm, the power—they’ve got history in every stomp, every clap. It’s not just a performance; it’s a reminder of everything these women represent. And watching Y/N lead it, move in sync with her sisters, chanting with prideyeah, it’s something I won’t forget.
She locks eyes with me for a split second, just long enough for a knowing smile to flash across her face. I grin back, my chest swelling with pride, but she’s right back into the routine, her focus sharp. The steps are flawless, every single one sharp and precise, just like her. I can hear her voice ring out, clear as day, in the chants that echo across the courtyard. And in that moment, I realize how much this means to her—the sisterhood, the tradition, the strength of the women before her.
When they finally finish, the applause is deafening. I’m clapping the loudest, my grin so wide it feels like my face might crack. Y/N and her sisters catch their breath, giving each other hugs and high-fives. She makes her way over to me, cheeks flushed, still out of breath, but her smile is the kind that you don’t need to say anything to understand. It's everything.
“Enjoy the show?” she asks, catching her breath.
“Girl, you already know I did,” I say, pulling her close. “You were incredible out there. That wasn’t just a show—that was... powerful. You, your sisters, everything—it’s something else. I get it now. I really do.”
Her face lights up as she laughs, and damn, I could get lost in that sound. “It’s everything to me, Ony. This, my sisters, our traditions—this is my family. And knowing you’re here, supporting me? It means the world.”
I can’t help but smile, reaching into my jacket pocket and pulling out a bouquet of pink tea roses. "Thought I'd show my support in style. These should match the vibe tonight, huh?”
She gasps, eyes lighting up, and the way her fingers wrap around the stems makes me feel all warm inside. "You didn’t! Ony, you went all out for me, huh?”
“For you? I’ll go all out every time, baby,” I say, watching her hold the flowers to her chest like they’re the most precious thing. “And seeing you out there, all that pride in what you do... makes me proud just watching you, Y/N. For real.”
She takes a deep breath, her heart racing at my words. She pulls me into a hug, and for a moment, it feels like the whole world is just us. She holds me tight, and I can feel the energy between us shift. This is more than just a boyfriend cheering on his girl—this is pride. Her pride, and mine in her.
"You know," she starts, voice soft, "if my sisters knew you were over here playing Mr. Supportive, they’d probably be all over you. Askin’ for tips on how to find a man like you."
I laugh, tipping her face up so I can look into her eyes. "Tell them I’m taken. Lucky for you, huh?"
She laughs, and the sound hits me like a shot of warmth. "Lucky for me, for sure." She leans up to kiss my cheek, soft and sweet, before pulling back. She still has my hand in hers, and we start walking back toward her apartment, the crowd beginning to thin out behind us.
The night’s winding down, but I can tell she’s still buzzing from the performance, the energy of her sisters, the pride of seeing everything come together. When we get back to her place, she kicks off her heels and gets comfortable, slipping on an oversized AKA sweatshirt. Her pearls are still around her neck, and I can’t help but smile at the sight. She catches my eye, noticing the grin tugging at my lips.
“Still wearing your colors, huh?” I tease, pulling her into my arms as we settle on the couch.
“Always,” she replies, curling up against me. "Just like you. Always out here hyping me up like my personal cheerleader.”
I chuckle, running my fingers along her arm. “You’re my girl. Hype’s what I do. You give me so much to be proud of, Y/N. Seeing you and your sisters out there tonight, y’all looked like you could take on the world.”
She smiles, resting her head on my shoulder. “Feels like I already am… with you by my side.”
The soft hum of the city outside their window is a distant background as I hold Y/N close. The night’s been long, and we’re finally back in her apartment. The only thing left is this peaceful silence between us, a comforting space where the world slows down, and it’s just the two of us. I tighten my hold on her as she snuggles deeper into my side, feeling her warmth against me. The scent of the roses I gave her still lingers, and I can’t help but smile at how much they seem to suit her—like everything about her does.
She speaks up, her voice soft, almost like she’s mulling over her thoughts. “Sometimes, I forget how powerful this whole AKA thing is. I get so caught up in the day-to-day of it all—the meetings, the events, the pressure—and I forget what it all stands for.”
I move a little, brushing her hair back gently, my fingers tracing the curve of her cheek as I speak, my voice steady. "Yeah? But you always remind me. Every time I see you in those colors, leading your sisters, being so damn confident... I know it means more than you can even say. I can see how proud you are, how much it’s a part of you."
Y/N smiles, and I swear, it’s like the world’s brighter just from seeing that. She leans into me, resting her head against my chest, and I feel her relax against me, her breathing slowing as my words sink in. I’m not just talking about her sorority—I'm talking about her. The woman she’s become. The woman I get to love.
“I’m lucky to have this,” she says softly, her fingers playing with the edges of her pearls. "Not just AKA, but this—" She gestures between us, her eyes soft as she looks at me. "You. The way you’re always there, supporting me even when I know I’m probably drowning in work. You’re the best part of all of it."
Her words hit me like a wave, and I can’t stop myself from pulling her even closer, brushing my lips over her forehead. "I can’t help it, Y/N. You deserve to be supported. You deserve all the good things. And I’m here for it."
She lets out a sigh, and I feel her body settle even deeper into mine. "You really know how to make me feel like I’m on top of the world."
"You are on top of the world," I murmur against her hair. "And I’m just lucky to be in your orbit."
Her laugh is soft, but it’s full of affection. "You're something else, Ony."
We stay like that for a few moments, basking in the quiet, the warmth of each other’s presence filling the space between us. But eventually, she stirs, and I feel her pull away slightly as she stretches her arms above her head.
"I should probably get some rest. Got a ton of homework to finish before class tomorrow." Then she shoots me a playful grin. "But first... I’m about to treat you to a little late-night snack."
I chuckle, following her into the kitchen. "Now, you know I’m never turning down food, especially if it’s you offering it."
She moves around the kitchen with that same confidence that always leaves me in awe. Watching her in action, seeing how she balances being a powerhouse in AKA and a beast in the classroom—it’s like seeing the perfect storm. She’s strong, capable, smart. Everything about her pulls me in, every damn time.
Turning back to me, she catches my eye with a grin. "How’s it feel, huh? To see me in action? Whether it’s in the classroom, at an event, or cooking you up something to eat—I’m always in control."
I walk over, wrapping my arms around her from behind. "You’ve got all the control in the world, baby. I’m just happy to be along for the ride."
She leans into me, and we just stand there for a while, the steady rhythm of her heartbeat syncing with mine. After a few more minutes, she finishes preparing the snack and plops down on the couch, patting the seat beside her.
"Alright," she says, that mischievous smile never leaving her face. "Let’s eat. Tomorrow's gonna come quick, and I’m gonna need all the energy I can get to juggle classes, AKA, and... well, you."
I sit next to her, taking the food she made and stealing a bite as we talk, laughing at the little things and sharing bits of our lives. As she gets into talking about her chemistry project and how her sisters are planning their new charity initiative, I can’t help but admire her. She’s got so much going on, so much she’s balancing, but she does it all with this fire I can’t stop watching.
She’s unstoppable, and I get to be here, right beside her, cheering her on.
"You ever stop talkin’ about chemistry for two seconds?" I tease, nudging her playfully. "I thought I was the one who was supposed to be all into science."
She grins and rolls her eyes. "Not when it’s this interesting. Besides, you know you love hearing me talk about it."
"Yeah, I guess I do," I reply, my voice softening. I rest my hand on her knee, giving it a gentle squeeze. "You got me. You always do."
She laughs again, the sound light and easy. "You really do talk like you’re mine, huh?"
I chuckle, leaning in close to her. "If I’m not, then I sure as hell want to be."
The way she looks at me in that moment, something shifts. It’s more than just teasing now—it’s like there’s this deeper understanding between us. She doesn’t say a word, but I see it in her eyes, and before I know it, she’s leaning in, her lips meeting mine.
The kiss is soft at first, tentative, like we’re savoring the intimacy. But soon, it deepens, and all I can feel is the pull of her—the way our hearts sync up, the way she makes me feel like I can conquer anything as long as she’s by my side. When we finally pull away, our foreheads rest together, and I whisper the words that feel truer than anything I’ve ever said before.
"I’m here, always."
She smiles, and it hits me like a wave. "I know, Ony. And I’m right here with you."
As we sit there, tangled together in the quiet of her apartment, the world outside feels miles away. I know one thing for sure—this is it. She’s everything, and I’m not going anywhere. Not now, not ever.

smutty ask: Loki & YN having to hide in a cramped closet/narrow space to not get caught by HYDRA agents on their mission. bodies pressed together, breathing gets heavy… 😏🥵
Finally getting around to this! 😂
When in Space...
Loki x Loki x F!Reader
Drabble, 2k words
Warnings: 18+ , heavy make out session, heavy petting
You slowly walk down the entry hallway, footsteps gently padding the concrete floor below you. Loki walks past you with long strides, shaking his head.
“Our intelligence states that this station is abandoned, no need to be so cautious with your footing,” he casts a teasing smile back at you.
“Yea, well you just…you never know…”, you feel a blush creep over your cheeks as he continues to smile while walking backwards a few feet in front of you.
He’s wearing his new mission suit- tight dark green leather that accents his body shape flawlessly. The perfect “V” of his broad shoulders and narrow hips. His long legs are accentuated by darker leather emphasizing his strong quads. It’s all you can do to keep from drooling.
You shake your head and try to focus on the reconnaissance mission. This is your first mission alone with Loki, and first mission in space. You had been up to the SWORD station in Earth’s orbit once, but that was just to meet the various SHIELD agents and heroes who protected Earth.
This time it was different- an abandoned HYDRA station only recently discovered. Who knew what sort of traps lay for unsuspecting invaders. And you can’t have a weapon other than knives, which you’re not as proficient at, creating more vulnerability than normal.
Making it extra difficult, it’s just you and Loki- and you’re rarely alone with him nowadays on purpose. In this moment, there are no distractions by teammates, no quick ways for you to excuse yourself when Loki makes a joke or winks at you. No way to hide your crush on him amidst the chaos of your lives. Just the two of you- alone on a spaceship.
“Well, actually we do know, and you’re walking quite slow, so please increase your speed. I’d like to get to the computer chambers Rogers spoke of so we can gather our information and leave this abandoned trash heap,” Loki spoke matter of factly as he led the way, and the two of you turned left around a corner. You trot up next to him, speed walking to keep up with his strides.
“What are you in such a rush for? Got a hot date when we get back to Earth?”, you joke sarcastically.
“Something like that,” he looks down at you and winks with a devilish smile.
“Ah, of course you do!”, you look away and try to hide your feeling of disappointment bubbling up.
Your mind wandered for a moment, wondering who it was this time- since he’s been on Earth he’s reveled in the attention of a variety of famous and highly desirable women.
You feel a knot build in your stomach from thinking about his dating quests, so you take a deep breath, pushing your feelings aside.
Focus on the mission, and not your raging crush on Loki.
You pull up your comms link on your wrist, and take a look at the map. The information is outdated and may not be accurate, but that’s part of this mission- to confirm current intelligence, and gather anything else that may be of use.
“Ok directions say to take a left down the hall here…” you look up to see there’s only a straight corridor, and now there are panes of glass lining the right side of the hallway with a view of space.
You stop for a minute, distracted by the beauty of the sea of stars and depths of blue and black spread before you.
Loki slowly comes to a stop, watching your pause, and walks up to you with a bemused look.
He stands next to you, crossing his arms and gazing out of the windows with you. You look up at his broad frame standing very close, mere inches away. The outline of his pale, sharp jawline is a stark contrast to his dark hair- much like the stars against the blackness of space. He’s just as breathtaking as the view. You look back at the expanse of the solar system, enjoying the quiet moment.
“It really makes you feel insignificant, doesn’t it?,” you quietly ask Loki, feeling like you are in a trance from the beauty before you. The vast emptiness calling you, promising answers yet withholding them.
“Normally I would say absolutely not, but-,” he paused, shifting his body and craning his head towards the direction you had been walking in.
Slowly, and completely silently, he walks ahead, motioning at you to stay still, bringing a long finger to his mouth to direct you to be silent while his casual demeanor turns serious. You look at him confused, but you know that something is amiss, given his shift in intensity.
A moment feels like eternity as he stands against the wall and listens, while you stand absolutely still, trying not to breathe loudly. Quickly, he walks towards you, grabbing your wrist tightly and dragging you to the wall where he was.
“Loki-what-”, you stammer, worry beginning to creep in as you nearly trip over yourself.
“Shh!”, he hushes you as your body is pushed into the very small closet that you didn’t realize was there. It’s a very small server room, the technology long gone but metal shelves remain. You feel his strength as he shoves you up against the metal shelving, as Loki closes the door quietly behind him.
Loki’s hard chest pushes against your back, his body flush with yours in the tight quarters. The sound of blood and adrenaline pumping courses through your ears, and panic begins to set in.
Loki begins reciting something in a language you don’t know, and you see green flashes in the corners of the closet.
You wince as you move your arms to rest on the shelf, trying to get comfortable and not think about Loki’s crotch ghosting your ass. You feel a wave of heat in your core despite the dangerous situation. This is uncomfortable in more ways than one, you inwardly groan.
Loki gently reaches down to your hips, shifting himself and positioning the two of you facing each other so you aren’t up against the metal shelving. You are now facing him, your face in his chest, as he pushes his thigh between your legs and pulls you closer. Another warm flush to your crotch.
“I’ve set a silencing spell, we can talk now”, Loki assures you, as your eyes get accustomed to the near blackness of the closet. The light under the door is just enough for you to see one another and the outlines of the room.
The two of you look in each other’s eyes, and you realize you’re panting from the exhilaration.
“What did you hear?,” you ask while trying to not move, knowing he’d notice any slight adjustment of your hips. There isn’t any space between the two of you, and you briefly think of all the times you fantasized about grinding yourself on his muscular thigh.
“Voices. We are not alone on this vessel,” he warns while you stare into his eyes. Even in the dark of the room, you could see the piercing blue.
“Did you hear what they were saying?”, you ask, glancing away from his gaze as your mind suddenly processes all of your senses from the last few minutes at once in the dimmed space. You bask yourself in his smell- warm, with an unknown spice to it. You’ve never been close enough to smell him like this, and it’s intoxicating.
No, but we should take respite and come up with a plan,” Loki sighed, and you feel his breath on the top of your head, making you shiver.
You feel sheepish, not sure what you should do. Normally your mind was sharp with strategy, but you can hardly focus with Loki’s powerful leg in between yours. It's taking every ounce of willpower not to kiss him right now. You suddenly notice that his large hand is against your back, and you feel warmth flood your core again.
“So much for this being quick. I guess you’ll be late for your date, huh?,” you joke, immediately regretting what you said.
“We are in a hostile situation with potential enemy combatants, but yet you are concerned about my personal life?”, he lifts your chin so your eyes meet his. A smile is on his face, but this time he doesn’t seem to be mocking you.
“I…uh…”, you stammer, words disappearing.
Loki begins to chuckle, and you can feel it in your chest. You would gladly walk out of the closet right now to spare yourself from this embarrassing situation.
“Oh you dear creature, jealousy does not befit you,” he cooed, beginning to run his hand up your back, gently forcing you tight against him.
Loki leans down, gently pushing the back of your head towards his, and kisses you gently. Desperately, you push back against him, opening your mouth for his tongue, beckoning him to kiss you deeper. You wrap your arms around his shoulders, running your hand through his soft hair.
Loki’ kisses you more intensely, as the heat between the two of you intensifies, all the worry of your situation disappearing in a moment of pure lust. You can feel his hard cock pushing through his tight leathers, and your hips begin to grind on his thigh. Loki moans as his hands grab your ass, holding you tight to him while he explores your mouth, his tongue massaging yours expertly.
Wetness is beginning to soak your panties as your make out session heightens when he begins to gently thrust his hips, and you can feel the stimulation on your clit. The two of you are moaning and grinding on each other, neither of you resisting your basest urges.
Loki reaches for your pants, his fingers touching your zipper and you take his cue, exploring his pants for a fly to open while the two of you continue your messy kissing.
Suddenly, light bursts into the closet as the door bursts open and you feel the light wind around the two of you.
A gasp escapes your lips and you tense up as Loki breaks the kiss and the two of you look at the man standing before you. Your brain immediately recognizes the man as not a threat. Your heart is pounding and you can barely calm yourself down.
“Director Fury, nice to see you,” Loki smiles smugly, as you feel his hands move from your ass to your hips.
“And just what the hell do you two think you’re doing?”, Fury asks, glaring at the two of you intertwined in the closet.
A wave of embarrassment creeps over you as you realize the scene before him: you and Loki, wrapped in each other’s arms, hair messy and looking like two hormone ravaged teenagers.
You let go of his hair and leathers, trying to adjust yourself to look presentable (to no avail) and clearing your throat while you looked mortified and try not to make eye contact with the Director.
“Well we were called in for reconnaissance. However, when I heard your team, I figured we should take a moment to ourselves,” he mischievously smiled down at you.
As it dawned on you what happened, your eyes widen in shock at Loki. Still unable to say anything, you looked back and forth between Loki and Fury, unsure what will happen next.
“...now, if you’ll please excuse us for five more minutes, then we will gladly join you and your team to share information,” Loki said casually as if you weren’t riding his thigh in a dark closet.
Loki reached out, casually closing the door in front of a disapproving Nick Fury.
“You knew it was them?!”, you suddenly found your voice, peeved at Loki for lying to you.
“Of course darling, this was simply a ruse”, he smirked down at you, before putting one hand back on your bottom while another reached up to your breast to gently fondle it. You tried to ignore how good he was making you feel.
“A ruse for what, Loki?”, you asked, disarmed by his gentle groping, as he begins to thrust himself against you again. You accidentally let a moan slip out as you feel the headiness of your lust cloud your thoughts.
“Don’t act so coy darling, I’ve known you wanted me for some time. Now stop prattling on, we only have a few minutes and I want to make the most of it,” he planted another passionate kiss on your lips, and you melted into his arms, not a care in the world.

(part 5 of November Paramedic; part 4 is here and the AO3 version is here.)
Liquid sound courses through Eddie's body. His fingers dance over Sweetheart's strings, hitting every note perfectly. Behind him, Gareth is going at the drums like a beast while Jeff and Marv have gravitated together, now playing back-to-back. In front of him, a wall of people is pogoing, restricted by The Behemoth's 'no moshing policy'. When he launches into the solo, their headbanging turns so vicious they're but a wild sea of hair with haphazard devil horns sticking up. Solo over, he grabs the mic to roar the outro lyrics.
The audience screams; Eddie's ears ring. His veins hold more adrenaline than blood and his life has never been better.
"Thank you! You've been glorious tonight!" He sweeps his sweat-soaked hair from his face and winks at a cluster of girls in the front row. "We're Corroded Coffin and you'll see us here again soon. For now, thank you and good night!"
On his way off the stage, he catches one of the girls' hand and drops a kiss on her palm. She beams, face pink, as her friends shriek.
It's not his favorite thing about performing. He likes playing on stage because of the release, because of the building nervosity that erupts with the music. He likes it because it's fun. But the electricity between him and the crowd? The charged looks of pure want from men and women alike?
It doesn't make it worse. He's not burdened by being desired.
They congratulate each other outside as they deposit their guitars and few pieces of personal equipment in Eddie's van. Gareth is especially bouncy, telling Eddie over and over how he was great, he was on fire, he was invincible. Eddie would've questioned the post-show hype if he hadn't immediately demanded they go back inside for drinks; if Gareth thinks he can flatter himself into a free round, he's correct.
After the fresh June night, the air inside The Behemoth is stiflingly hot. It plus the hum of the patrons leave a cloying buzz in the back of his head. He might only stay for the one round before going home. Possibly two if those front-row ladies decide to pay; they're eyeing him right now. Sure, they're not Eddie's type, but that's what the other guys are there for.
Except when the women approach, Gareth shuts them off by pulling Marv in between them and steering Eddie in the opposite direction. Pushing Eddie forward, seemingly uncaring if Jeff and Marv keep up, he goes on his tip toes and hops every other step to peer above the crowd.
"Are you looking for someone?" Eddie asks.
"Noo, I just thought I saw someone at the bar…"
"Yeah, that means you're looking for someone, dipshit. Who is it?"
"It's… Uh…" Gareth says inattentively, scanning the bar area.
A large hand clamps around Eddie's shoulder, turning him around. He promptly swallows his tongue.
"Dude, you were great!" Steve says, smiling so big it could sustain a small country with power for the winter.
His hair is fluffy tonight, lying in a soft swoop. He's wearing a charcoal Henley, sleeves rolled to his elbows, tufts of chest hair peeking out from between the undone buttons. And he's got glasses on. Fucking glasses. Thin wireframes, an elegant complement to his beautiful face and delicate contrast to his hunky everything else.
Eddie's reply is strangled nonsense that drowns in Gareth's shouted, "Hey! You made it!"
"Yeah, man! Thanks for the invite!" Steve says, extending his hand for a shake.
"Anytime, dude! S'great to see you," Gareth replies, slapping and grabbing Steve's hand in a perfectly executed man-shake. Like they're a pair of fucking frat bros.
But that isn't the important part. No, the important part here is the word 'invite'. Who, when, where, and above all what the fuck??
"We loved it!" Robin says from half behind Steve. Because of course she's also here, wearing a patterned blazer that should clash with her differently patterned button down, yet doesn't. She continues gushing about the performance as Steve nods along and the rest of the band interject their gratitude whenever she pauses for breath for longer than a second. Eddie is the only one who hasn't said a peep.
He needs to fucking peep.
"Glasses!"
His exclamation has the others turn and stare so fast their necks snap. He ignores Gareth's snicker, cheeks burning. One of these days he will run into Steve without acting like a fool, but not today.
"What?" Steve says, his already huge eyes magnified by the glass. Damn, his lashes are long and dark.
"Y-You got glasses. I didn't know that."
Steve's brows jump, as if he forgot he's wearing them. He briefly goes cross-eyed as he tries to look at the spectacles resting on his nose. Then he lets out a giggle that's so cute it hurts.
"Oh, yeah. I usually wear contacts, but they expired and the new ones haven't arrived yet." He scratches beneath his eye, pushing the glasses askew. "I'd just wear the expired ones, but…"
"No!" Robin snaps. "It's bad for your eyes!"
"Yeah."
"You need to take care of yourself!"
Steve levels her with an unimpressed look, cocked eyebrow and pursed, plush lips included. "That's rich coming from someone who stopped eating halfway through an Alfred Hitchcock marathon because she didn't want to pause Saboteur to go grocery shopping."
Robin puts a scandalized hand to her chest. "I'm a linguist, not a medic. I can do whatever I want."
"That's not-"
"Anyway!" She smiles at Eddie and the guys. "You rocked. We had a blast. Steve even danced."
"That wasn't dancing. I was keeping you from faceplanting when you tripped over your own feet."
"Steve, go buy us drinks," Robin says.
"Why me?"
"They brought the entertainment; we'll bring the refreshments. And I'm broke. So chop-chop!"
She claps twice an inch from his nose tip. Steve rolls his eyes, but obliges, striding off toward the bar. Robin emits a witchlike cackle at getting her way.
Eddie elbows Gareth in the ribs hard, gritting out, "You invited them, huh?"
Gareth grins impishly even as he rubs the most certainly bruising spot. However, Robin's villainous glee melts away; she frowns.
"Is that a problem?" she asks.
Shit.
"Oh, no, no!" he says.
"Never!" Gareth shouts.
"New faces in the audience is always a cause for celebration," Marv says.
"He just didn't expect to see you, is all." Jeff steps between Eddie and Robin, wearing a disarming smile. "Gareth didn't tell any of us we had special guests waiting, but it's great to have you here. I'm Jeff."
Robin hums and appraises them with suspicion, eyes lingering on Eddie. Then she smiles; it would've been pleasant if it wasn't so sharp.
"Let's grab a table," she says.
They pick one in the quieter part of the bar. The booths don't fit more than four people, five if you're determined, but they solve it by having Gareth perch on the adjacent window ledge and by Robin sitting on Steve's lap.
It's first when Robin asks for details about the band that Eddie realizes how golden the opportunity is. The previous times he's met Steve, he's been at a disadvantage. Injured, caught by surprise, distracted by tight jeans or sweat rolling down necks. And yeah, he was surprised today, too. And he won't claim that it's easy to focus whenever Steve reaches for his glass, exposed forearm flexing with the movement.
Nevertheless, this is Eddie's turf. This is his stage. Here, he is king. And he will hold court like his life depends on it.
He talks about the band. He talks about their influences, about guitars, about the lyrics he writes. Robin participates in the conversation by making connections to punk music, but Steve only listens, eyes darting between them all like it's a five-way ping pong match and his attention is the ball. But mostly, he's in Eddie's palm, staring like only he has the answers. Fuck, like he is the answer.
It's enough to give a guy a god complex. The person who was created to be looked at is now looking at him.
It makes him bolder. Makes him touch Steve more, touch him longer. Close the distance between them when he speaks and zeros in on Steve's lips when he replies. And Steve… responds? He thinks? It's difficult to tell, because Steve's reciprocal touches are restricted by the lapful of Robin, and he seems to have a habit of looking at everyone's mouth when they talk. The boys appear optimistic, though, sending him encouraging signals from across the table and the window. He'll just have to use it as fuel and keep on trucking.
Somewhere along the way they move on to D&D. Steve remains enrapt by Eddie's every word, hanging on to the golden threads he spins. His only actual contribution comes at the end, asking if their game has space for one more. Eddie’s pulse jumps in his throat.
"Methinks we do." He leans back, exposing his neck, while giving Steve his best bedroom eyes from above the rim of his glass. "Why, you interested?"
"Not me," Steve says; Eddie barely has the willpower to smack his head against the table with disappointment. "But Lucas plays. Or he used to. His… what's the term? His group?"
"Party," Jeff says.
"Party. They're scattered all over the world now. I think he misses it."
"He hasn't said anything about it, but…" Robin trails off. Steve jostles her.
"You never talk about band, but you miss the trumpet like hell, don't you?"
"Ugh, I dooooooo!" she says, kicking her legs.
"We can bring him aboard and see how he fits," Eddie says. "If he so wishes."
Steve smiles like Eddie just promised Lucas a kidney. "Thanks."
Eddie gulps a large mouthful of beer to wet his drying mouth. "Anything for you."
They leave soon after that for food. Gareth especially needs it, starting to become tipsy on his stomach of nothing but beer. Although, outside, it becomes clear he passed 'tipsy' a while back when he climbs onto Jeff's back and yells, "Race!"
Jeff laughs as he hikes Gareth farther up. Robin glances at Steve, then spins away and mounts Marv's back instead.
"I promise I'm lighter than I look," she says.
"You look as light as your namesake," Marv says; she gently smacks his shoulder.
"Don't flatter me; I'm immune."
Gareth, holding Jeff’s hoodie like it's a horse's reins, points to the 7-Eleven sign glowing faintly in the distance. "Onward!"
Marv whinnies realistically enough for Robin to guffaw, and then they're off, their shoes clomping against the pavement and they howling with laughter. Still by the bar, Eddie and Steve share a giggle before following suit at a slower pace.
"Ah, youngsters," Eddie says dreamily.
Steve knocks their shoulders together. "You're not that much older."
"Well… Gareth's turning 21 and I'm 25, so a bit?"
"I'm also the oldest in my friend group." Steve shrugs. "It happens."
Gravel crunch beneath their soles. The air is cool and the sky is yellow with light pollution. Indianapolis is alive and full of noise, but their bubble has space for only them to walk side by side, close enough to touch but not doing so. They have an approximate ten-minute walk until they reach the convenience store. Unless the others return to them, that's ten minutes alone.
Eddie must use them wisely.
"So… how long have you been a paramedic?"
"Oh, um." Steve scratches his neck. "It's been almost four years. I'd actually been certified for less than a year when I got asked to be in that calendar. Not even a year in and I'm supposed to represent paramedics as a whole." He chuckles, mumbling, "That was fun."
"Did you make anything from it?"
"No. Every cent went to charity. Can't remember the name of it, but they provide vaccines to children in developing countries. Measles, polio, hepatitis, tetanus. That sort of stuff."
"Is this your childhood dream then?"
"Nah. I didn't want to be anything when I was a kid. When teachers asked what we wanted to be when we grew up I just said I wanted to be like my dad. He's the CEO of a huge electronics company. Mom is a socialite and philanthropist. They wanted me to inherit the company, but I…" Steve pulls a sigh from deep in his chest, throwing his head back to watch the starless sky. "I was a meathead jock. More interested in being keg king than keeping up my grades. Only reason I graduated on time was Nancy – we used to date. She's a study-beast. Makes great flashcards. Anyway, there's no way I'd ever get into a university good enough for my parents. I wasn't interested in the business degree dad wanted for me; I didn't even bother applying for college. It felt like a waste of time."
Eddie whistles, drawn out and low. "Bet they were thrilled when they found out."
Steve laughs humorlessly. "Yeah. Dad forced me to work this shitty retail job because of it." He halts, drawing himself up and pulling his mouth down. Giving Eddie the most disdainful look he's received, he says in a voice too pompous to be his own, "'If you don't follow the path to the top I laid out for you you'll end up here, at the bottom'." He rolls his eyes, himself again. "That's what he was saying. It backfired on him, because that's where I met Robin. Spent six months on that job, being a fucking aimless disappointment, and then…"
"Then?" Eddie asks, and now it's him desperately grasping at the thread. He needs to know. Anything Steve is willing to give, Eddie will accept.
Steve chews the inside of his cheek. Head hanging, hair falling into his face and glasses sliding down his nose, he resembles a model from an art student's angst-ridden project. Or maybe a movie star in an independent art house film. He just looks like art, okay? Beautiful and out of reach, which only makes you want to touch him more.
"It's kinda private," he says. "For Robin, I mean. The point is it opened my eyes to emergency services. I knew that was something I'd like to do. With some encouragement from her… I did it." He smiles at Eddie like they're sharing secrets. "Turns out studying is more fun when you're interested in the curriculum. My parents disowned me, but it's worth it. I'm as far away from being him as I can come."
He slows his steps then, face sobering before he barks a shocked laugh. The apples of his cheeks are pink.
"Fuck, that just flew out! I'm not usually like this; it's Robin who can't put a cork in it." He laughs again, softer, and levels Eddie with a gaze that borders on adoring. "You're easy to talk to."
Eddie nods. His lungs are burning, he must gasp for breath before speaking. "It's a finely honed skill…"
He swallows, licking his lips. Anything Steve is willing to give, he wants to give back. To take and give. To know and to be known.
He chokes out, "I almost turned into my dad."
"Yeah?" Steve says casually, unaware of the knife Eddie just plunged into his own chest and cut himself open with. "What's he?"
"Prison."
"What?"
Eddie nods breezily. He puts his trembling hands into his jacket pockets. "Petty stuff, but it stacks up. He taught me a few things, though, so if you ever need to hotwire your car or pick a lock… I'm your guy!"
He pulls out his hands to point at himself with both thumbs before shoving them back in. His voice is shriller, and his body's getting the jitters. Can't be still, can't shut up, and now Steve is eyeing him with… sadness? Not disgust, at least, or mistrust.
"But you're a mechanic now, right?" Steve says.
"Yeah. Learned it from my uncle – he took me in after the ol' sperm donor got caught. Greatest man I know, my uncle. I was a crap student," Eddie says, because why not. What's this after divulging about his dad? Nothing! Might as well disclose his aptitude for crime and philistinism. "Completely aimless. Still am. Redid senior year twice."
"Shit."
Grimacing with empathy, Steve sidles up until their elbows brush. A smidgen of tension leaves Eddie as he leans into Steve's warmth.
"Uh-huh. My peers started looking at colleges and all I thought was 'death before higher education!' So, I used my savings to move to Indy and got a job at a garage. It's not what I strictly want, but it pays the bills. Keeps me housed."
"What do you want?" Steve asks, like he wants to know and not just to be polite.
Eddie balloons his cheeks and puffs out the air. "I don't know. I'm passionate about music, but mostly as a hobby. Doing it professionally seems like it sucks. It's all I got, though. That and D&D."
"That's okay." Steve throws an arm around Eddie, and then they're flush. Ribs to ribs. Not an inch separating them. Close enough for Steve's skin to vibrate with Eddie's heartbeat. "You have time to figure it out. And being a mechanic in the meantime is great."
"It-It's not as meaningful as saving lives…" Eddie says, shaking his hair forth so it curtains his face.
Steve hooks the curls around his finger and tucks them back behind Eddie's ear. Holy shit. If Eddie hadn't been clinging to Steve, his jelly-legs would've collapsed and made him eat asphalt.
Steve's gorgeous grin still sends him stumbling a step.
"Sure it is. I bet you've saved someone." Steve leans in, breath ghosting across Eddie's cheekbone as he murmurs, "You'd save me. I know how to change tires and check the oil, but if it's something else? I'm screwed."
Eddie turns his head; their noses nearly bump. Steve's gaze flicks from his eyes to his mouth, indecisive. It chooses his mouth when he pokes his tongue out and drags it over his lips.
"Don't worry, big boy," he says, voice gravelly from use and their proximity. "If you're ever in trouble, just come to me and I'll take care of your engine."
Steve's breath hitches; he flinches back. For a moment Eddie's sure he went too far. But then Steve giggles like a schoolgirl. He ducks his head, face flaming red.
"Cool," he says weakly. "If you ever… heh, I was going to say 'if you ever need the kiss of life, come to me', but… don't." He's leveled himself with Eddie again and is looking at him sternly, though the effect is somewhat ruined by the humor glittering behind his glasses. "Don't ever get fatally injured. Okay?"
Eddie runs a hand down Steve's back, feels him shiver, and looks at him from beneath his lashes. "I make no promises."
A minute later they're caught up with their friends, who are very kind not to comment on how they're plastered to each other.
They buy their food – subs, nachos, chips, cookies, and juice, Steve paying for Robin's after she begs – and wander back to the parking lot by the bar. As a group, so no more clingy cuddling. Just as well, because Eddie's hot enough to erupt if touched again.
Steve didn't get the memo, though, because when they're saying goodnight and about to climb into their respective cars, he pulls Eddie into a hug. A real hug. Two-armed, chest-to-chest, sniffing-the-other-person's-hair kind of hug.
"S'been fun tonight," he says, squeezing Eddie tightly. "This is gonna sound sappy, but I'm glad we ran into each other again."
Ran into each other again.
Ran into each other.
It's a barrel of ice water over Eddie's head. His whole body constricts, shoulders hiking to his ears, jaw clenching. Because they've never actually done that, have they? They ran into each other once, but never again. Every single one of their meetings since has been orchestrated. Made to happen to satisfy Eddie’s obsessive crush. And Steve has no idea.
He doesn't know Eddie is a capital-letters-only FREAK. He doesn't know Eddie gets his rocks off to charity calendars. Fuck, he doesn't know about the calendar.
He has to know. If there's anything Eddie has learned from his millions of failed relationships, it's that there are things you have to know, and this is one of them. Because what'll happen if Steve finds out years from now from someone who isn't Eddie? A shit show, that's what!
Eddie wants for it to be a 'years from now'. He wants to feel Steve's hugs and see his eyes behind thin wire glasses. He wants to smell Steve's shampoo and hear his voice go soft as it says the names of the people he loves.
He wants to take and to give. To know and be known.
Steve has to know.
But how will Eddie tell him?

𝖲𝗍𝖺𝗋𝖽𝗎𝗌𝗍 - 𝖢.𝖲. (𝗉𝗍. 1)
Synopsis: (Chris's POV) Chris would do absolutely anything to keep his best friend safe and happy.
Warnings: Language, small use of the word r*pe (nothing happens), alcohol/over drinking, fluff
Word Count: 2k+
Chris’s POV
My eyes were locked on her. I couldn’t help but smile as I watched the way she moved her body on the dancefloor. She was so effortlessly beautiful. She always had been.
I was fascinated by her the second I met her at nine years old. It was the first time I ever felt any type of feeling for a girl. The way she smiled and waved at me from across the street as she helped her parents carry boxes inside. I couldn’t help but smile back. And when my mom insisted me and my brothers go help our new neighbors, I got choked up in her presence.
But that’s a story I’ll reminisce about another day. Right now my job as her best friend was to protect her at all costs. Y/n had a lot of ups and downs in her life and I was by her side for every single one of them. But now that we were in our 20’s living in LA, free from the confines of our parents and hometown, she really loved to let loose and forget everything that ever happened to her. I loved watching her have fun but she wasn’t always the most graceful drunk. And if I’ve learned anything from the guys that frequent the sleazy bars and clubs downtown, it’s that they have no respect for women, which made my drunk and vulnerable best friend an easy target.
So yeah, while my brothers and friends were also letting loose, I always had an eye on Y/n and remained close enough to her to rescue her if she needed me but not too close that I was hovering like an overprotective dog.
Me and Matt both threw back a shot of whiskey at the bar. I checked my phone, it was 11:34 pm. Taking me all of two, maybe three seconds tops. I glanced back over to where I had last seen Y/n and Madi dancing but now Y/n was missing. I make my way through the sea of people towards Madi.
“Where’s Y/n?!” I yell over the music.
Madi looks around. “I don’t know! She was just here!”
I could feel my stomach tighten as I looked around the room. She couldn’t have gone far, I only looked away for two seconds. My eyes landed on her new gold dress, she was barely able to walk, leaning on some random guy for support as he led her towards the exit of the club.
“Y/n!” I yelled, pushing past people to get to her as quickly as I could. I reached out and grabbed her arm, spinning her around to face me. “Y/n! Are you okay?!”
“Chrisssyyyyy!” She beamed and fell into me, wrapping her arms loosely around my neck. “I’m drunkkkk!”
“Yo, do you mind? I’m tryna get some tail!” The skeezy fuck that had his dirty hands on her said to me.
“Uh, yeah, I fucking mind!” I snapped back at him, pulling Y/n to my side. “Back the fuck up, homie!”
“What’s going on?!” Nick asked as he approached with Matt and Madi.
I handed Y/n off to Madi. “This fucking sleaze bag was about to take Y/n home and fucking rape her!”
“I wasn’t gonna rape her, man! She said she was down!” He replied.
“Does she look like she’s in any state to consent?!” Nick shot back at him.
I could feel a heat rising in my chest as he eyed Y/n again.
“Looks like she takes it all the time!” The guy laughed and it triggered an immediate reaction in me.
Before I even knew what was happening, my fist crashed against his jaw, knocking it out of place. He attempted to swing back but I was already two steps ahead of him, laying into him with everything I had.
“Chris!” Matt and Nick yelled simultaneously, grabbing my arms and pulling me away as a few other people dragged the guys limp body away from me.
“Say it again, homie! See what fucking happens!” I was screaming at him. “Oh what’s that?! Can’t talk with a busted ass jaw?!”
“You three, out!” The bouncer yelled, grabbing me, Nick, and Matt and throwing us out the front door. “Get out of here before the cops show up, kid.” He said to me.
“I’m not leaving without Y/n.” I told him.
“We’re coming…” Madi said, guiding Y/n out of the club.
I took her into my arms once again and tilted her chin up to look at me. “Y/n, sweetheart. Look at me.” I said to her, it took a moment for her eyes to focus but once they did she smiled. “You okay?”
“Mhmm,” She giggled. “I missed you!” She had no recollection of what just happened.
I was annoyed with the events that just took place but her honey soaked voice always made me smile. “Let’s get you home, yeah?”
“Mmmmkay…” She agreed. “
“Is she okay?” Matt asked.
“She’ll be fine. I’m taking her home.” I told them. “You guys can stay out if you want.”
“You sure you don’t need any help?” Nick asked.
“I got her. Go have fun. I’ll see you guys in the morning.” I said, crouching down slightly. “Get on my back, sweetheart.” I said to Y/n.
She sloppily threw herself against me, wrapping her arms around my neck and I helped her onto my back. She was minutes away from passing out and since home was right up the street, I didn’t mind carrying her.
“Alright…text us when you’re home.” Matt said. I gave him a mock salute and made my way towards my house.
-
“Y/n, wake up!” I whispered to her softly as I let her down. “We’re home.”
“Hmm?” She hummed.
“We’re home. Let’s get you to bed, okay?”
“Chris, I don’t feel good…” She said.
“Are you gonna be si-” I was quickly cut off with the answer to my question as she threw up all over her new dress. “Fuck, sweetheart, come here.” I shifted her to the side so that she was aiming for the bushes as I held her hair back. “Just let it out.” She puked for a full minute before finally being able to catch her breath.
“I might have drank too much…” She said softly. Her voice was hoarse.
She seemed so weak and pitiful. It broke my heart. I hated seeing her like this. “It’s okay, let’s get you cleaned up, okay? Can you walk?”
She nodded. I led her into the house and helped her downstairs to my room. I turned on the shower and grabbed her some towels. “I’ll grab you some clothes to wear. Do you want me to wash your dress?”
“Yes please…” She said softly.
“I’ll be right back,” I said as I closed the bathroom door, allowing her to strip out of her dress and heels. I went to my dresser and grabbed my favorite t-shirt and a pair of basketball shorts. I also grabbed her a bottle of water. She already had her own drawer in my bathroom with all of her basic necessities. She stayed over all the time so I wanted to be sure she had everything she needed. I went over and knocked on the door. She swung it open, a towel draped around her body and mascara running down her cheeks.
“Y/n, what’s wrong? Do you feel sick again?” I asked.
“No. I’m just…I’m sorry…” She mumbled.
“Hey!” I said, taking her chin between my thumb and index finger, forcing her to look up at me. “Don’t be sorry. Everything is fine, alright?” She sniffled softly and I pulled her in for a hug, placing a soft kiss on her forehead. “Take your time, get cleaned up, okay? I’ll make you something to eat and then we can go to bed, yeah?”
She nodded in agreement and I smiled at her. “Here’s some clean clothes and water. Give me your dress, I’ll throw it in the wash. She handed me her dress and I moved to close the door. “Yell if you need me, okay?”
She smiled in agreement and with that, I left her alone to gather herself. I headed upstairs and threw her dress in the washer. I looked at all the cycle options with confusion, trying to decide how exactly this machine worked. I picked up my phone and texted Matt.
Chris: How do I work the washer?
Matt: What are you washing?
Chris: Y/n’s dress. She got sick.
Matt: Just put a little bit of detergent in, turn it to delicate and press start.
Chris: Thx bro
I put my phone down and sighed. I went to the freezer and grabbed a pizza, throwing it in the oven before I thought back on the events of the night. I couldn’t fucking believe how shitty some people were. What if I hadn’t caught Y/n in time? What if she ended up in that dude's car and he took her home to do God knows what? It made me sick just thinking about it. I looked down at my hand and noticed the dried blood on my knuckles. I didn’t notice it until now but the second I realized I had split one open I began to feel the pain.
I went over to the sink to scrub my hands, hissing as the water ran over the gash on my knuckle, proving to be a lot larger than I had originally thought. I opened the cabinet above the microwave where Nick had dedicated a space to cures for any ailment. I pulled out the first aid kit and wrapped a bandage around my hand, using my teeth to tear the cloth.
The oven went off and I pulled the pizza out, cutting it and throwing a few slices onto a plate. It was a regular cheese pizza but I knew it would help sober Y/n up a bit so she could hopefully sleep peacefully tonight.
I grabbed a Pepsi and water from the fridge and made my way downstairs. When I got to my room, Y/n was still in the shower. I put her pizza and water on her side of the bed and grabbed the remote, flipping through the channels to find something decent to watch at this hour. I finally landed on Spongebob and thought that would be a good option to fall asleep to.
I heard the shower shut off and I scrolled my phone as I waited for Y/n to join me in bed. It was another 20 minutes before she finally emerged from the bathroom.
“Hey! How’re you feeling?” I ask her as I pulled the covers back for her to get into bed. She looked so cute with her braided hair and bare face with my t-shirt draped over her like a dress.
“A little better,” She shrugged. “Less drunk.”
“Good. Let’s get some sleep, sweetheart.”
“I don’t even remember what happened tonight. I completely blacked out.” She said as she sat in bed and hugged her knees to her chest.
“Don’t worry about it,” I said, pulling her into me. “Everything is fine. You’re here and you’re safe, okay?” She nodded and rested her head on my shoulder. She felt so weak and fragile. “Do you want some food? I made pizza if you want it.”
“Maybe in a bit,” She sniffles. “Can we just cuddle first?”
“Of course, come here.” I leaned back and Y/n rested her head on my chest. I dragged my fingers softly over her back, willing her to sleep while she had an arm and leg draped over me.
In less than ten minutes I could hear soft snores escape her lips and I smiled. I felt like such a dick for losing sight of her. I had to keep reminding myself that she was here with me and safe. Nothing could hurt her now.
She was an adult and she could do as she pleased. But I so badly just wanted to spend eternity with her here in my room where I knew I could protect her from all the evil of the world. She didn’t deserve the shit life has thrown at her and watching her drink her pain away broke my heart. I wish I knew how to help her…

The Warriors and their Odyssey of misogyny
I can’t stop thinking about how The Warriors is more relevant now than ever, especially in the wake of the 2024 election. This isn’t just a story about gang conflicts and survival—it's a brutally honest reflection of the world that marginalized people have to navigate every day. At its core, it’s about fighting through a sea of misogyny and toxic masculinity to survive in a system that’s dead set on crushing those who don’t fit its narrative.
Let’s start with Luther. He’s a white incel in every sense—angry, destructive, and, above all, ready to deflect blame the moment he’s caught in his own violence. After killing a black female activist, he immediately accuses the Warriors. Cleon, a character who knows what it means to fight for your community, begs for reason, for justice. But it’s hopeless—Luther’s lie spreads through his gang the Rouges, and every gang believes him. They want to believe the white man’s narrative. This is how the Warriors become outcasts, hunted by everyone.
What’s chilling, though, is how The Warriors dives deep into the nuances of toxic masculinity, showing it in forms we recognize all too well.
First, we have the Turnbull ACs—the poster boys of hyper-masculine violence. They’re the first to pursue the Warriors, and they’re more than willing to turn their hunt into something brutal. The ACs don't just want revenge; they want to dominate, to assert their power over the Warriors in every violent way possible. All in the name of Cyrus, no less—a symbol of a leader they’ll never understand. And they’re acting this way because of a lie, blindly following a dangerous white man’s narrative without question. It’s the rawest depiction of machismo and rage—almost an anthem of how Men of Color end up perpetuating harmful Eurocentric viewpoints just be a part of a society that hates them too.
Then come the Orphans. The Orphans are all talk, acting like the typical online "alpha males" we see on Reddit or Twitter. They talk big about their strength and what they’d do to women, but they’re nothing but insecure. The moment a more feminine-presenting Warrior flirts with them, they back down, only to puff up again when Mercy questions their manhood. It’s pathetic, really, but also painfully real. As soon as the Warriors fight back, the Orphans crumble, showing us exactly how performative their masculinity truly is.
Then there’s the Hurricanes—the only group to stand with the Warriors. They’re queer, and they know what it’s like to be outcast, to run because society sees you as something to be destroyed. The Hurricanes offer a quiet, resilient kind of mentorship, showing the Warriors that they don’t have to run—that they can fight. The solidarity here is beautiful, and historically resonant. Queer rights and women’s rights are so deeply intertwined because they’ve both faced the brutal crush of patriarchy, especially from those determined to keep the world “pure” and “safe” for white, conservative ideals. The Hurricanes help the Warriors see their own power, and it’s their influence that eventually allows them to survive.
But the most frightening group? The Bizzies. They’re the “nice guys,” the false allies who sing about being there to help. In their song “We Got You,” they say everything marginalized people want to hear. They’re supportive, kind, and reassuring—until they get you in a dark place, where your screams can’t be heard. Cowgirl lets her guard down with them, only to find out that their support was a façade. The Bizzies are insidious because this happens all the time in real life. Fake allies talk about helping marginalized people but vanish or even turn hostile the moment things get difficult. In 2024, we’re reminded every day that this kind of allyship is hollow.
A recent Vulture review questioned why most of the male characters in The Warriors are “bad” and argued that this one-sided view “limits” the story. But here’s the thing: this isn’t one-sided for those of us who are marginalized. For women, queer folks, and people of color, this is our reality. The Warriors reveals what’s true for many of us: that we have to rely on each other, and that the fight for our own freedom is in our hands because no one else will fight it for us without diluting or dismissing it.
In a way, The Warriors is the sequel to Hamilton we need in 2024. It’s a call to action, a piece that understands what it means to exist on the fringes of a world that was never designed for you. For those who think this story isn’t “realistic,” I urge you to think about what it means to live without the privilege of being heard, of being believed. This is the life marginalized communities face every day—the struggle of knowing that no matter how loud we shout, society might never listen.
We’re the ones who have to make our voices heard. And The Warriors reminds us that we’re not alone in this fight.

The town of Port Royal was crowded with men of different ilk the likes of which you had never seen. The Hangman had docked in the early hours of the morning, and once you had finished helping Bob prepare and serve breakfast, you had dragged the young man down the gangway and onto the street, heart hammering away with excitement.
“We can’t be gone too long,” Bob said, grinning at your clear excitement. “We have to be back in time to prepare supper.”
“What’s the point of traveling if we can’t even see the sights?” you scowled, pushing your way through the heavy throng of people around you. A few men gave you dirty looks as you did, but you paid them no mind. Men were rarely able to back up their bark with enough bite, in your experience, but you pressed onward without so much as a second glance at them.
“Pete, we are seeing the sights,” Bob chuckled behind you.
You turned to fix him with a scowl. “We’re seeing, but we aren’t appreciating. How can we when we only have a few hours?”
“I think you’re overestimating how much there is for us to do around here,” he laughed. You paid him no mind as you neared the market of the old pirate hub. Men bargained with each other at several of the different stalls, and groups of women were scattered along the streets looking for paying customers to share their bed for the evening.
“Ahoy, handsome,” a pretty redhead grinned at you as she leaned over the railing of the brothel. “You look like you’ve hardly reached manhood, and I don’t suppose you have much experience under your belt. Can I interest you in some lessons?”
“I, uh,” you stammered, blinking up at her nervously. “No, thank you, miss.”
“Shame,” she smirked, eyes looking behind you. “And what about you, sailor?”
You turned to see Bob looking as red as a tomato as he glanced nervously at you. “No, I’m fine.”
“Well, I’ll be here if either of you change your mind,” she grinned, tossing her long curls back to show off her ample cleavage. “Just ask for Lucy when you come back.”
“We’ll keep that in mind,” you blushed, hurrying to move forward with Bob hot on your tail. The two of you continued on a little farther until a glint of light caught your eye. You walked slowly up to the stall, several men grousing at you as you crossed right in front of their paths, but you paid them no mind. Your eyes were locked on a beautiful necklace that lay on top of a small wooden chest at one of the stalls. The golden chain held a six-pointed star, tiny diamonds encircling a burning opal. You had never seen something so beautiful before.
“I see you’ve found the soul of Polaris.”
You jumped, looking up to see an older man with a salt and pepper beard staring down at you. His accent was foreign, and if you had to guess, you’d say the man was from somewhere in Scotland.
“Is that what this is?” you asked him, looking back down at the jewel.
“Aye,” he continued, folding his arms. “They say a sea witch fell madly in love with a sailor long ago. When the two finally met face to face, the witch proclaimed her love for the man, but what she didn’t know is that the man was disgusted by her form. You see, the sea witch was also a mermaid, a siren of the sea. For while the witch was fair of face, the sailor knew what monster lay beneath the surface. So, he told her that he would only accept her love if she offered him something valuable.”
“And that was the gem?” you asked him, eyes wide. The old man chuckled with a shake of his head.
“No, lad. Wasn’t the gem,” he explained. “Was what the gem holds. There’s nothing more important to a sailor than the north star herself. Every man worth his salt knows that much. No, the gem holds an ancient magic. A magic to calm the sea and guide men to what it is they need most.”
“Which is what?”
“I don’t know,” he shrugged. “It’s different for every man.”
“Why are you selling it if it’s so valuable?” Bob chimed in, eyes narrowed at the man.
“Because it showed me that it’s time to pass it along, and I’m nothing if not a man who loves a proper sale,” he grinned. “Are ye interested?”
Before you could answer, Bob grabbed your elbow, pulling you away.
“No, we’re not,” he huffed out. You let out a cry of protest as he dragged you through the crowd. It wasn’t until the merchant faded from view that he finally slowed down, and you jerked your arm out of his hand.
“What was that about?” you griped, glaring up at him. He looked around the crowd wearily before shaking his head.
“Just didn’t like the look of him, is all.”
“Oh, that’s all?” You scoffed, crossing your arms. “What if I wanted to buy it?”
“Yeah?” Bob bit out a sharp laugh. “With what money?”
You were silent for a moment, and he nodded. “That’s what I thought.”
“You don’t have to be such an ass, you know,” you muttered, looking away dejectedly. You heard Bob sigh before he placed a hand gently on your shoulder.
“Look,” he began, “I’m sorry. I just don’t like anything having to do with magic or witches or anything of the sort.”
“Why’s that?” you asked him.
Bob didn’t answer you, instead looking somewhere off in the distance before grinning down at you.
“C’mon,” he said, once again pulling you through the crowd. “There’s something I want you to see.”
You allowed him to tug you along, the crowd thinning as the two of you moved closer to the edge of town. Finally, the cobblestone streets gave way to white sands and the stunning blue of the ocean. You felt your breath catch in your throat as you looked out onto the horizon. How you hadn’t noticed it when you departed the ship earlier, you didn’t know, but now your gaze was transfixed by it. This blue was so different from the blue you grew up seeing every day. Where your home’s waters were usually a dark, stormy blue, Port Royal’s water shined like topaz.
“I didn’t know the sea could look like this,” you breathed out.
“I knew you’d like it,” Bob smiled, turning his focus to the water before you. The two of you stood there in silence for a few moments before Bob turned to you once more. “C’mon, we best get back to the ship.”
“What’s all the commotion up there?” you asked Bob, hearing the stampede of footsteps above you on the main deck. Bob glanced up, a smile crawling onto his face.
“Sounds like they’re back aboard,” he grinned, rushing towards the door.
“Who is ‘they?’” you called after him, but he was already gone. You sighed, eyeing the ingredients for dinner before making your way after him. A crowd had gathered by the gangway, and you stopped at the edge where Bradley stood.
“What’s going on?” you asked him.
He shrugged. “Guess we’re here to pick up two other crew members from what I’ve gathered.”
You hummed, craning your neck to try and peer over the horde of men. You managed to catch a glimpse of two figures on the other side of the crowd; one man and one woman.
“Natasha!” You heard Bob cry. You saw the head of sandy hair bounce up to the woman who smiled at him. “How was it? How did it go?”
“Bob!” Natasha hollered as she pulled the young man in for a tight hug. “It’s good to see you. It was great!” She gestured to the man beside her. “You should have seen Mickey haggling with that old codfish! Thought we might get away without payin’ a cent there for a second. And then just when we had him, the codger backed out.”
She grimaced at the memory. “Couldn’t for the life of us figure out why he would back out at the last second. Just as we were headed back here though, he stopped us and offered another deal, one too good to pass up.”
“And so you took the deal.”
Everyone turned to see Jake, having just come from his quarters, at the edge of the crowd. He strutted towards the pair with a cocky smirk.
“You bet your ass we took that deal,” grinned the man, Mickey, as the captain approached. “We were leaving with it one way or another.”
“Lucky for the old man, he came to his senses,” smirked Natasha, arms crossing in front of her. Jake hummed as he stopped in front of them.
“And where is our little treasure?” he asked them. Mickey rifled through his pockets before pulling something out. The chain dropped to reveal a six-pointed star with tiny diamonds surrounding a burning opal. You gasped as Mickey handed the necklace over to Jake, who quickly pocketed it. He turned back to the rest of the crew.
“Alright, you lot. Show’s over. Get back to work! We set sail in an hour.”
The crew clambered to prepare the ship for launch, but you continued to stare at the small group on the other side of the ship.
“I’m going to freshen up in my quarters,” Natasha told the two with a smile, already making her way to where the cabins were housed. You gaped before looking over at Bradley.
“Bradley,” you hissed at him. Bradley swallowed thickly.
“She’s a woman.”
“Yeah.”
“She’s got a cabin on the ship.”
“Yeah.”
“She’s a member of the crew.”
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Yeah.”
Before you could say more, Bob had come bounding up to you. “Are you ready to get back to cooking?”
You shot one last glare at Bradley, who looked everywhere but back at you. That idiot.
“Yeah,” you grumbled, turning to head back into the hull. “I’m ready.”
“Why is that woman a member of the crew?” you asked Bob as you scrubbed at the pot in your hands. “I thought woman weren’t allowed on ships?”
“On most ships, yes,” he told you as he finished dishing out portions for the crew. “But Jake doesn’t really care who is crew is made up of as long as they carry their own weight and don’t cause any problems.”
You hummed. “So anyone can just join, huh?”
“I suppose,” he mused. “Jake doesn’t let anyone join the crew unless he thinks their worthy and have something to offer. A lot of men were skeptical when Nat first joined, but she quickly made a name for herself as the Phoenix.”
“The Phoenix?” you questioned, pausing your scrubbing to look at him. He nodded with wide, excited eyes.
“Yeah! Whenever we come upon a ship to plunder, she does this thing where she’ll light the ends of her coat on fire. It smolders, giving her this terrifying look like she just rose out of the flames. That’s why, ya know…”
“The Phoenix,” you finished for him, turning back to your work. “Do you all have nicknames like that?”
“Some of us, sure,” he replied. “But our names work just fine. Now help me pass these out to the crew.”
You moved to help him and the two of you began taking the dishes out to where the crew had gathered around the massive tables.
“Cabin boy!”
You turned to see Natasha waving at you with a mug of ale.
“Come join us,” she grinned. You glanced at Bob who nodded.
“Go, I can get the rest,” he smiled. You nodded back at him and made your way over to where Natasha sat with Reuben and Mickey.
“Take a seat, cabin boy,” Natasha grinned, taking a sip of her ale. You did as she commanded, eyes darting between the three sailors as they stared at you.
“Is it true?” she asked you with a raised eyebrow.
“Is what true?”
“That your dad is Maverick Mitchell!” Mickey grinned, leaning in closer to you. A large figure slid in beside Reuben.
“What are we talking about?” Bradley asked, glancing between you and the other three.
“We were just starting to ask the cabin boy here about his father, Rooster” Reuben told him, taking a bite of his food. Bradley’s mouth set in a firm line as the three turned their attention back to you.
“What was he like?” Mickey asked you, practically bouncing in his seat. You shrugged noncommittally as you took a bite off your own plate.
“I don’t really know what you're expecting me to say.”
“Well, was he just as daring as the stories say? Did he take you out on his trips? Did you help him plunder? Did he ever find the treasure he was looking for?”
“Alright,” Natasha groaned, setting a calming hand down on his shoulder to stop him. Bob chose that moment to join the lot of you, sliding in next to her on the opposite side of the table. “Settle down, fanboy.”
“I can’t help it!” He hollered. “It’s not every day you meet the kid of one of the greatest pirates known to man.”
You stilled, seeing Bradley tense up on the other side of Reuben.
“What?” You whispered, eyes wide as you stared at Mickey who stared at you uncertainly.
“Pete Mitchell was your father,” Mickey said slowly, glancing around the table. “Right?”
“Yes, he was,” you said firmly.
“Pete Mitchell, better known as Maverick,” Reuben rattled off, “was a world renowned pirate of the highest order. His very name struck fear into the hearts of many a ship’s captain and crew. He was respected both far and wide by civilians and sailors alike.”
“Until one day he just disappeared,” Natasha added, studying you curiously. “Said his life’s mission was to find the greatest treasure the world could offer, and he plundered and stole for decades before dropping off the face of the earth.”
You felt like you were going to be sick. You didn’t know this man they were talking about. You knew the man who told you stories before bed, who showed you the proper ways to tie different knots, who always treated you kindly and had a smile at the ready for you, who never once raised his voice in anger at you or your mother. The man they were talking about was a stranger.
Without thinking, you grabbed the nearest cup to you, Natasha’s, and downed it. The ale did little to ease your comfort, and you grabbed Reuben’s next and did the same.
“Woah there, cabin boy,” Reuben called out as you reached for Mickey’s. “Slow down there.”
You didn’t want to slow down. You wanted to forget. You downed Mickey’s cup and searched for more. The men to your right had watched the scene unfold, and one of them let out a low chuckle before pushing his cup towards you.
“There ya go, cabin boy!” He laughed. “Drink up!”
You happily obliged him, downing the nearly full mug in only a couple of gulps. You stood, head already beginning to feel both light and heavy all at the same time. You had never had more than one cup of ale before, but you weren’t worried about that fact in that moment. You stumbled on your feet as you made to move towards the barrel that had been opened for that night’s dinner.
“No,” Bradley said from behind you, having gotten up when you did. “You’ve had enough.”
You whirled around to face him, nearly falling on your face in the process. “I’ll decide when I’ve had enough,” you hissed up at him, trying and failing to push past him as he gripped your arms.
“That’s enough,” he growled down at you, but you continued to push at him until he gave you a gentle shake. “I know you’re upset, but this is not how you should be handling it.”
You stared up at him, studying him. Why was he being so calm about this revelation that had just been dropped into your lap?
“You knew,” you breathed, tears pooling in the corners of your eyes. “You knew, and you didn’t tell me.”
Bradley stiffened, hands tightening ever so slightly on your shoulders. He looked defeated as he let out a sigh. “He didn’t want you to know.”
“Bastard!” you screamed at him, your struggle renewing with a vengeance.
“What’s going on here?”
All of you stopped and turned. Javy stood at the end of the stairs, eyes scanning the room and the scene before him. He frowned when he saw the state you were in.
“Cabin boy,” he said slowly, eyes always studying you. “Go get some air.”
You took a breath before pushing at Bradley who stumbled back half a step. You staggered toward the stairs, hearing Javy address the crew. You didn’t hear what he said, too focused on making it up to the main deck.
The air had grown cool as the sun began to set, and you staggered towards the edge of the boat. You grasped onto one of the ropes, feeling your resolve start to break. The tears started to fall and you let out a shaky sob into the wind.
“Rough night, cabin boy?”
You turned, vision hazy from the ale, to see Jake standing a few feet away from you.
“What do you care?” You muttered, frowning at him. He let out a low chuckle before walking over to lean against the side of the ship next to you. The two of you stared at one another for a few moments, but said nothing.
“He was a pirate,” you whispered, almost inaudibly, the tears still flowing down your cheek. Jake nodded.
“Aye,” he said. “He was.”
“But he was a good man,” you frowned, more of a question than a statement. Jake cocked an eyebrow at you.
“Can’t a man be both?”
You shrugged, head starting to feel even heavier. “I suppose so.”
Jake let out another chuckle, leaning into you a little more. “You suppose so?” he teased.
“Yeah,” you nodded sleepily. “S’pose so.”
Jake reached up to cup your cheek as he watched you. “How much did you have to drink down there tonight, Guppy?”
“D’unno,” you muttered, subconsciously nuzzling into the palm of his hand. “More than I’ve ever ha’ before.”
The two of you stood in silence for a moment before your eyes shot open, staring at him. What did he just call you?
Jake watched you with a knowing smirk as you struggled to form a coherent thought through the alcohol induced haze.
“You catchin’ up there alright, Guppy?” he asked you, a grin breaking out over his face.
“How long have you-?”
“Since you walked up to the ship behind Rooster, sweet girl. You think I’d just forget a pretty face like yours?” he laughed as you scowled up at him.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” you snapped.
He shrugged. “Figured things would be much more interesting this way. Besides, you looked so cute thinkin’ you had fooled me into thinkin’ you were a boy. Wanted to see how long you’d play into it.”
“So why bother saying anything?” You grumbled. His grin dropped as he stared at you with a stern expression.
“Cause you went and did a stupid thing like gettin’ too drunk. Now I gotta worry ‘bout you ‘round some of these men.”
“You don’t trust your own men?” You asked him, eyebrow raised. He chuckled lowly, placing a large, warm hand to the small of your back.
“While I believe they aren’t stupid enough to try anything with me or your brother on board the ship, I’d sleep much better tonight havin’ not taken the chance.”
“Wait,” you said, his words catching up with you. “They know?”
Jake laughed at that. “Darlin’, everyone knew the moment you set foot on the ship. That brother of yours needs to work on his disguises.”
You scowled up at him as he helped you towards the cabins. He beamed down at you, eyes twinkling, and you could have sworn you saw a blue mist twirl in his pupils as he stared down at you.
“C’mon. You can bunk with Natasha from here on out.”

feeding my mutuals with more desi skk content ft Chuuya’s mom! I wrote this snippet a while back so I hope you guys still like it!
—
“Hello? Is this the Armed Detective Agency?”
Dazai looked up from his desk where he had his headphones on, reading rather than working. Usually he’d let someone more eager deal with the walk-in client but unfortunately for him, everyone had made excuses and was already gone.
“Uh.. hello?”
Judging from the voice, their new client was a woman. This wouldn't be too hard for Dazai then. He slipped his headphones off and made a dog ear on the side of his page before jumping off the chair. Quickly painting a pleasant smile on their face, he looked at their walk-in, greeting her with great earnestness.
“Welcome to the Armed Detective Agency, dear madam! My name is Dazai Osamu, how can I help you?”
He studied her while keeping up a good smile, bowing his head down slightly. Now, Dazai isn’t an impolite person but the first thing he noticed about her was her height. She was short. Most Japanese women were quite short but she also had a rather broad figure. Along with that, she had large black eyes, pairing perfectly with her graying black hair that was tied back into a ponytail, dark freckles scattered across her tanned skin. If he didn’t know any better, Dazai would assume she was a beautiful model despite seeming like she was in her 50’s.
“My name is Layla, Layla Kashimura and here to ask for help, help to find my son.”
“A missing persons report?” Dazai titled his head to the side, blinking curiously. “Did you try to go to the police?”
“Um…” Layla sighed a bit, shaking her head. “No, it’s complicated, can I explain it to you? Please?”
Desperation. There was a light of desperation that was clinging onto hope in her eyes. He could only wonder what led her to such a path.
“Of course.” He led her towards the couch, sitting down in-front of her with his back straightened, still maintaining the ever pleasant smile.
He watched Layla take a couple of deep breaths, as though she were trying to calm herself, pace herself before she spoke up.
“Before I tell you anything.. I should start from the beginning from when I first moved here.”
Dazai nodded as he closed his eyes, leaning back on the cushions. Layla wrung her wrists as she continued to speak.
“When I came here for university.. I barely knew anybody. I didn’t have a lot of friends but there was one man who was kind enough to help me and was willing to become my friend. After university, the two of us got married and he got a job as a doctor in the military.”
She paused for a moment, moving her gaze to stare outside the window.
“That’s when… things started taking a bit of a turn. We were already a few years in and had a child, a five year old boy and we lived by the seaside together and I was pregnant with my daughter by that time.”
Dazai nodded the entire time as she spoke. Layla, herself, was staring off into space a lot while she talked.
“One day, I left my children at home with my husband because my job needed me to take a one night trip to Tokyo. When I came back.. my son was gone.”
Dazai didn’t know what it was. The silent pain in her voice or the chilling sensation that was going down his spine.
“My husband said that he died in a swimming accident and the body was forever lost to the sea. I couldn’t bear it, the pain and suffering of it all…”
“For so long, I was so angry. I blamed myself for leaving him alone that day, I told myself that I should have never left Tokyo and if I did maybe he’d be alive right now, he'd be okay and he’d have grown up into a.. happy healthy boy…”
Tears formed at the corner of her eyes with each word feeling heavier and heavier. Dazai said nothing; he has no right to speak about the pain of a mother.
“Then I found out… My husband lied.”
Anger. Rage was pooling in her voice as her hands closed into fists.
“He gave my baby away to the Japanese government for experiments and I found out when it had been 15 years since I had lost him. He lied to me, gave my son away and said nothing as I let myself crumble into an empty shell…”
“What did you do to him?” Dazai prompted in between, watching her with a blank expression.
“I just divorced him. Took everything, all the money, my daughter and left for Yokohama. I haven’t heard from him since but he left with some comfort of knowing that.. he’s probably still alive. He’s probably twenty-two years old now and I hope he’s lived a good life..”
“But I want to know if it’s possible to find him. Please.”
Dazai tapped his finger with his chin a bit, leaning over the table to meet her gaze.
“Can you tell me what your son's name is?”
“…”
“Chuuya. Kashimura Chuuya. That was his name.”
Dazai blinked for a moment, Layla watching with him slight confusion until he spoke up again.
“Does your son have a scar on his wrist? A birthmark anywhere..?”
“Why.. I think so..” She murmured a bit.
…
Curious.
Biting her lower lip for a moment, she instantly sat up and reached for her handbag. Dazai observed Layla as she pulled out a small photograph from her wallet, handing it to him. It was quite old, some of the color faded but it was enough for him to see the boy in the photo. A boy with dark red, almost black hair and tanned skin was clinging onto his mother with a wide smile on his face, the beach being right behind them; the warmth from the image was infectious. The smile on the boy was infectious. Dazai only knew one person who had such a genuine smile.
“… Miss Layla.”
He spoke up after a while. Dazai felt as though his throat had been dried up, his very soul being burned by the other’s gaze.
“… I might have a good idea as to where your son is.”

Met Gala 2023: My Top 10 Women’s Looks
Here we go, this is my 10 women’s looks from the Met Gala 2023. Just to remind everyone that my opinions are mine alone, so feel free to agree or disagree with me as much as you like. However I will not tolerate any hate personally aimed at me if you disagree with me to the point where you want to start an argument. So let’s keep it respectful, clean (language wise) and more importantly let’s have some fun with this. Like I said, if you’re looking for an argument, then you’re following the wrong fashion blog.
1. Kim Kardashian wearing Schiaparelli. This was the first look I saw this morning when I switched my phone on and I was blown away by it. I honestly didn’t know what to expect from Kim after her look from last year that got a lot of people talking. So I was pleasantly surprised to see her in an original design that shows off her body in all the right places and I love the draped pearls across her breasts (which are actually covered by a nude bra). Overall it was another Met Gala and another show stopping moment from Kim Kardashian.
2. Doja Cat wearing Oscar De La Renta In comparison to Jared Leto, Doja Cat understood the theme and took it to a whole other level that was both unexpected but not at the same time. I loved the use of prosthetics that complimented her simple yet stunning crystallised gown. Plus who doesn’t love a gown with a hood that has cat ears coming out the top that makes you look like a fashionista rather than someone attending a Halloween party?
3. Gigi Hadid wearing Givenchy I’m a sucker for a black gown that comes not just with a corset but a lot of tulle draped perfectly in all the right places as well. Gigi just looked stunning in this and considering a lot of attendee’s were also wearing either black or white, her Givenchy gown stood out when I was scrolling endlessly through all the looks earlier today. Simple, yet perfect sums up her look that I couldn't not add to my top 10 favourites. 4. Cardi B wearing Chenpeng Studio I just loved the edgy yet alternative bridal look that also incorporated a masculine energy through the shirt and tie design blended with a corset that still made the overall gown look and feel feminine as well as beautiful. I’m not a fan of Cardi B as a rapper but like Kim Kardashian her Met Gala looks have never disappointed and I think this look was one of her best yet.
5. Devon Aoki wearing Jeremy Scott Even though it’s yet another black & white gown, I just love the cartoon styled wings on the bust line of the corset. To me it made this gown stand out in the sea on monochrome that plagued the Met Gala 2023. Without that unique design, this gown would’ve gone unnoticed and it would’ve easily become another gown that was worn to the wrong event.
6. Florence Pugh in Valentino Florence has been killing it with her red carpet looks in the last 18 months or so, so it was no surprise that she would turn heads at the Met Gala. Whilst I'm not a fan of Valentino since Pierpaolo Piccioli took over as creative designer when Maria Grazi Chiuri left for Dior back in 2016, I can’t help but love this look. A simple white gown paired with a huge feather crown just looked stunning on Florence and it’s another reason why we love seeing show stopping numbers like this one.
7. Glenn Close wearing Erdem Moralıoğlu Similar to Florence Pugh’s look, Glenn Close just looked phenomenal in her Erdem Moralıoğlu design. Once again it was simple yet stunning and I loved the colour on her. It suited her to a tee and what better way to pair a simple gown that with a huge pale blue cape and the sparkliest jewellery of the night. It just goes to show that anyone of any age and can look amazing when dressed perfectly for the Met Gala.
8. Liu Wen wearing Tory Burch I just love how simple the gown is yet at the bottom it’s filled with white flowers that make the Tory Burch gown stand out amongst hundreds of Met Gala looks. The whole look screams red carpet but it’s also the ideal gown for a bride who doesn’t want to wear white to her wedding. Liu Wen just looked stunning in it and it’s why her look has made it into my top 10.
9. Salma Hayek wearing Gucci I just love that it wasn’t black or white and the sharpness of the red looked phenomenal on Salma both in the PVC corset and the long tiered skirt. Plus the subtle draping of the pearls as straps just topped the look off altogether. Once again I loved everything about it and I can’t fault it at all. It was perfect. 10. Tems wearing Robert Wun This gown was a standout for all the right reasons. Tems looked absolutely gorgeous from head to toe and I love how all the feathers are perfectly placed on both the gown, the gloves and the headpiece from stepping over that line from haute couture into a costume. The shape of the gown also compliments her body to her a tee and I couldn’t think of anything better that Tem’s could’ve worn to the Met Gala. So this concludes my top 10 looks from the Met Gala 2023. I have to say picking this list was hard because there were so many another amazing designs worn last night, however these 10 stand out to me the most. Feel free to leave your opinion in the comments about which was your standout garment from last night, perhaps it’s on my list and perhaps it’s not.
I look forward to hearing what you all have to say about this year’s fashion.

The Secret Exchange Diary of the Beauty and the Tyrant (His POV)
These translations are not intended as a replacement for the game. Please support Cybird by buying their stories. Expect grammatical errors. Not 100% accurate.
CW: Slightly Suggestive
Emma: “Prince Silvio, would you like to exchange diaries?”
Silvio: “Ha?”
We were chillin’ out in bed after taking a bath together when Emma suddenly proposed an unexpected idea.
Emma: “We’ll show each other our diaries.”
Silvio: “Who would do something so embarrassing? I ain’t gonna do it.”
Emma: “You really think it’s embarrassing? Your voyage log is in a book, you know?”
Silvio: “Those two are different things. I won’t do it even if you ask me to.”
(Her head is really full of such fantasies.)
Emma: “Fine.”
Not expecting me to disagree, she easily backed down.
Emma: “Then, it’s okay if I send you my diary alone, right?”
Silvio: “What’s your goal here?”
Emma: “It’s a secret.”
(I don’t get it.)
I could tell she was up to something, but I couldn’t put my finger on it.
(Never mind. If she’s satisfied with it, fine.)
Silvio: “You’re going to send it anyway, aren’t you? Fine, I'll go along with it.”
Emma: “Thank you!”
She giggled and hugged me around the waist.
(I don’t really get how women think.)
Just like what she said, from that day on, she really did send me her diary.
Today I holed up in the castle's library to learn about the history and transition of Benitoite.
I've always known that the country is famous for its sea and trade. However, it was Prince Silvio's voyages that gave Benitoite the edge over other countries.
He had three major voyages in the past.
All of them were his greatest achievements that had already been compiled in history books.
My fiancée was really cool. I couldn't help but fall in love with him even more as I read about him in history books.
But what he achieved so far was not limited to voyages.
I'd like to know everything about him.
I might fall in love with him each time and suddenly want to hug him, but I hope he forgives me then.
(........)
(How can you write something so cringy?)
After reading her diary during my break, I closed it, and for some reason, my face wouldn't stop blushing.
It was so embarrassing that I almost jumped into the water but resisted and just ruffled my hair.
(But what's in it for her by giving it to me?)
(It's not like she has anything special to tell me. If anything, it just makes me feel good.)
(This is like a love letter now. Ah, damn it.)
It was sickening as a trader to benefit from the diary alone because the principle in business is fair trade.
Receiving Emma’s diary alone wasn’t fair.
(If she's only giving this to make me write a diary, then that's quite impressive.)
She might be a sassy woman, but I didn’t think she would use this kind of tactic.
(No point dwelling on it. I just have to ask her.)
Silvio: “Why do you want to exchange diaries?”
As soon as I finished my official duties, I stormed into her room and blurted out these words.
She was apparently studying hard, with a stack of history books on her desk.
She widened her eyes at my sudden visit, but stopped writing.
Emma: “I heard a rumor that you might be going on a voyage soon.”
(You already heard about it, huh?)
It was just a minor voyage一one that would leave the castle empty for a few days. But despite knowing this, Emma didn’t look too happy.
Emma: “This is the first time I’m going to be separated from you here in Benitoite.”
Emma: "I know you often go sailing, and there'll be times when we won't be able to see each other in the future, so I thought if I wrote a diary, I'd miss you a little less."
Silvio: "I see..."
I ended up clutching my head and grunting.
(If that's the case, you should've said so from the start. Why can't you do something as cute as this?)
Silvio: "It wouldn't make sense if you were the only one writing the diary."
Emma: "That's not true."
Emma: "Just having my diary will make you remember me when you go on your voyage. Pretty wicked, huh?"
(What's so wicked about it, you idiot?)
I ruffled her hair messily in annoyance at her overwhelming cuteness.
Emma: "Are you mad?"
Silvio: "Why would I be mad?"
Emma: "Because it was pretty selfish."
Silvio: "*sigh* It's not even close to being selfish."
(To be honest, I was planning to take your diary without telling you.)
Emma: "Then why did you mess up my hair?"
Silvio: "I just feel like it."
Emma: "Don't mess it up just because you feel like it!"
Silvio: "Shut up. I'm in the mood for this."
Now that I'd heard the reason, I couldn't bring myself to be embarrassed.
As I continued to mess up Emma's hair, I remembered again that no Benitoite businessman should ever break the most basic and important principle.
(It ain't my style, though.)
(Tch, I guess I don't have a choice.)
A few nights later, I returned to my room after finishing my work and heard the sound of lively footsteps thumping from the corridor.
Emma: "Prince Silvio!"
Silvio: "!?”
The door swung open with a bang, and Emma jumped into my chest like a rabbit.
Without giving me a chance to react, she suddenly hugged me, causing my body to freeze in surprise.
Silvio: "How many times do I have to tell you not to startle me?"
Emma: "This is not the time for that!"
She moved away from me and held up a diary.
It was the diary I purposely left in her room when she wasn't there.
(I left it there because I couldn't stand to see it being read in front of me.)
Emma: "I didn't expect you to write it."
Emma: "The content一"
Silvio: "Don't say it! Don't say it out loud!"
Emma: "I can't?"
Silvio: "You can't, you idiot."
(I want to get the hell out of here right now.)
Anticipating this, she blocked my way.
Emma: "Then let me tell you what I think of一"
Silvio: "I don't want any feedback!"
Emma: "I'll only say one short phrase."
I tried to cut off her words, but she quickly covered my mouth.
(This bitch...)
Emma: "I love you!"
I gulped, and my heart thumped loudly in my chest as I saw her face up close, beaming with delight.
Silvio: "You're getting carried away."
Emma: "Of course, I'd get carried away if I read that. It was like a love letter一"
This time, I put my lips on hers and took the words I couldn't bear to hear.
Silvio: "Don't say anything else."
(I don't want to remember it.)
Every time she tried to speak, I kissed her lips and entwined my breath with hers.
I held her hips and felt a slight tremor in my palms as I deepened the exchange of our tongues.
(I won't let you say anything cheeky for a while.)
Just to be sure, I kissed her more deeply, and lewd wet noises echoed around the room.
I knew that if I did this, she'd be even more embarrassed than I was.
When I took everything away from her, Emma turned her teary eyes upward, her breath uneven.
Emma: "Are you embarrassed?"
Silvio: "So what if I am?"
Emma: "Nothing."
She only grinned and said nothing about what I did, which would normally make her blush and complain.
Silvio: "Are you sure you want to be smiling like that?"
(Is my diary really making you that happy?)
I pushed her against a nearby wall and put my knee between her legs.
When I forcefully shook her, I could see from her expression that her composure had vanished.
Emma: "W-What do you think you're doing!?"
Silvio: "If you humiliated me, it's only fair that you should be humiliated as well."
Emma: "Ngh…I didn't humiliate you."
Silvio: "You ain't convincing me."
I unbuttoned her blouse and forcefully pulled down her upper garments.
As I mercilessly squeezed her exposed breasts, she began to moan.
(I was trying to keep you quiet, but if you keep making that kind of face, I wouldn't be able to hold back either.)
I lifted her skirt and continued to stimulate her directly with my knee.
When I smirked at the faint wetness I felt through my clothes, she noticed and looked away, blushing.
Emma: "Did you really hate the diary so much?"
Silvio: "If I really didn't like it, I wouldn't have done it."
I let out a small laugh, and despite her becoming somewhat disheveled, she laughed as well.
Emma: "Then, please stay with me for a little longer."
Silvio: "Ha?"
Emma: "Is that a no?"
(.........)
There was no way I could resist her request, seeing how she carefully held the diary.
Silvio: "I'll go along with you as much as you want if this makes you that happy. Damn it."
Swearing, I hold Emma in my arms and lay her on the bed.
As I sank her into the bed, the diary slipped from her hands, its pages flipping open.
I'm off to the shipyard today for a meeting to discuss the new voyage.
I'd most likely be sailing in a few weeks at this rate.
I plan to return in a few days, but I kinda feel bad leaving you alone.
We'll use an unknown route this time, so the danger is uncertain. This is why I can't take you with me.
I'll be back as soon as I can because you seem to be more lonely than I thought.
As you know, I'm a businessman before I'm royalty.
I will probably go on less risky voyages as I take over the throne, but I don't intend to stop because Benitoite has made rapid progress by crossing rough seas and creating new trade routes.
My way of doing things is different from my old man's.
I may make you lonely and worried, but I will spoil you when I can be with you.
I'll keep up with the diary, and if there's anything else you want me to do, just let me know.
I'll even do a few outlandish things for you.
I can't help but fall in love with you, too, every single day.
Fin.

Jaime: Has she appeared?
Marta: Yes, safe and sound. Begoña just confirmed it; Digna called to tell her.
Jaime: Digna?
Marta: Julia went to the Merinos’ house. She was scared to come back here after what she did.
Jaime: Oh, my poor girl!
Marta: Digna will bring her back now. You can relax, okay? Who would think of running away like that?
Jaime: Well, I’m not a cripple. It’s nice to think that I can be part of the solution.
Marta: That’s what I wanted to talk to you about since no one else is home. Though I’m waiting for Fina. Ah, here she is.
Fina: Hello, Jaime.
Jaime: Fina. What’s this little ambush about?
Marta: Please, sit down.
Fina: We’ve been thinking about an alternative where everyone wins.
Jaime: Wins? With death, there are no winners.
Marta: Come with us to Barcelona, Jaime.
Jaime: What? What kind of nonsense is this?
Marta: You’ve always said it’s a heavy burden for you that I give up everything to stay by your side. Well, we’ve found a solution.
Fina: If the three of us go, Marta and I can stay together.
Marta: Jaime, you’ve spent most of your life at sea, and I want to be with you. We’d be far away, but why cling to this family?
Fina: We’d be with you.
Jaime: Girls, it’s a beautiful gesture, but I’d be a burden.
Marta: No.
Fina: Of course not, because we’d both take care of you.
Jaime: Well, that’s what you say now, but then you’ll want to live your lives, and you’ll have a dying man to care for, not knowing for how long—months, weeks…
Marta: Jaime, listen. In this house, it’s suffocating. Leaving here would do us all good, okay?
Fina: Up until now, we’ve seen leaving as a punishment or exile. Now we believe it could be an opportunity—a new beginning.
Jaime: A beautiful love story where I’d just be a burden.
Marta: You’re wrong. You’re the solution. Two women alone in a house might raise eyebrows, but a married couple with…
Fina: With the spinster cousin, that’s more…
Jaime: I see you’ve thought of everything.
Fina: Jaime, if not for yourself, do it for Marta. She adores you and won’t leave you alone during such a difficult time. I know it’s not ideal, but who said life was?
Marta: And maybe later we could add an experienced driver to the mix.
Fina: Well, we’ll see about that. We’ll have to convince him—he mentioned coming in a very offhand way.
Marta: We need to adapt to the twists of fate. This gives us a chance to take a path we never imagined. But perhaps it’s the right path.
Fina: We’re not leaving without you.
Jaime: Well, you’re very convincing. I’ll go with you.
Marta: Thank you.

Jesús: Are you seriously suggesting we put Tasio García in Braulio’s place when he retires?
Marta: What’s your problem with Tasio?
Carmen: I want you to know that if you need a shop manager to coordinate the different sales points, you can count on me.
