i forget sometimes that lady asha and eva, jude's mother, were both friends in court. like during the time eva married to madoc and pregnant with vivi, lady asha was still the high king's lover. and now im imagining if destiny didn't get in the way and if cardan and jude were not meant to rule elfhame (cardan being prophesied to be the destruction of the crown and ruination of the throne, in turn securing jude's prophecy that she would surpass madoc) eva never would have gotten said prophecy that her child was in danger from madoc and consequently would have stayed with him. again consequently, lady asha would not have fallen out of favor with the high king when cardan was born (bc baphen wouldn't have given eldred that prophecy) and probably would have stayed a courtier. eva may have had jude and taryn with madoc, making her part faerie like vivi, culling her desperate need to do anything to be accepted by a world that is not kind to humans.

what i'm getting at is that a favored son of the high king and a skilled daughter of the grand general would probably have been engaged for an alliance anyways, even if they weren't fated to rule.
