TW: ed?
So, really I have been having a poor relationship with food. I weigh 77kg and I've been trying to go on a calorie deficit but it feels impossible because I like to eat a lot, I want to lose weight without even trying and i've been affirming but nothing changes. I want to also live my dream life and manifest everything before school starts, but I've been affirming for 3 years and sometimes feel like there's no hope. Thank you xx
I feel like you're dependent on the 3d for confirmation that you have what you want. I get it, i mean I really do. Seeing it in front of you, feeling it, the opposite of what you want. But you have to know that it is already done. That it is yours. You are the validation. Know that what you want is already done, the minute you decide it was yours. That's it. That's itttt. Believe in that. Scream it out loud for all I care. But that's all there is to it. Persistence. Persist on what you want. It's not about affirming millions of times and then going back and asking where it is, or why it isn't working. It's about affirming and knowing that it's done and that's it. The very fact that you can affirm is proof that it's true. That it's done. Let it be your validation.

How Much Does the H.E.V. actually Weigh?
Hey folks. So as a resident loser and wonderer of useless things I have been trying to figure out how much the H.E.V. Suit from hl2 actually weighs.
There’s no actual good indicator in hl1 for how much the mach 4 weighs so we’re going to be focusing on the hl2 mach 5 model.
Part 1: The Puzzle
First thing that I did was figure out how many cinderblocks gordon weighs. In one of the First puzzles in the game after you get your HEV and the Crowbar + 9mm You have to use 7 cinderblocks to make one side of the See-Saw go down enough that you can jump to the other side. However, if you use 6 cinderblocks it will act as a See-Saw, leading me to believe that gordon, with his crowbar and his pistol, weighs about 6.5 cinderblocks.
Part 2: Cinderblocks
Now, there’s a few different types of Cinderblocks that exist. There’s the standard ones with the two holes and the prongs which I’m sure many have seen before. But the thing is, Is that the Cinderblocks used in the game are not standard Cinderblocks.
For reference:
This is a chart comparing cinderblock sizes and weights.
Tumblr media
And this is a half life 2 cinderblock
Tumblr media
As we can see here the cinderblocks used in half life are the largest and therefore the heaviest cinderblocks on aforementioned chart. (bottom right)
Therefore a singular cinderblock used in the game weighs 52lbs/23.5kg
“But wait Tony!” you say “What about the weapons??”
fear not loyal half life fan, I’ve got that covered.
Part 3: The Weapons
So after reviewing a couple videos and confirming, the two weapons you have at the See-Saw puzzle are the Crowbar and the 9mm
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now after a little research, The 9mm weighs about 1.7lbs/.77kg
The crowbar weighs 18lbs/8.2kg
Part 4: The Guy himself
I want to preface this that this is a lot of speculation that’s based on game lore.
So, Gordon. He’s 6′2″ and looks like a bean pole.
Tumblr media
i mean seriously look at this guy. He looks like your average STEM dad.
But the thing to remember here is that he has been going through Hazardous Environment training, including the Hazardous environment course. Along with being taught how to use the H.E.V. which the weight (we will get to it at the end of this post) will absolutely need him to bulk up at least a little for it.
So now we’re assuming that he has an athletic body type.
Unfortunately the USAmerican health system HEAVILY relies on BMI as a “Healthy Weight” indicator so that’s what i have to use (I tried finding something else if anyone has some good resources for this it would be wonderful if you replied or reblogged this with those)
According to places like Banner Health (which is what i used as reference) the average 6′2″ Athletic man falls between 171-210lbs/77.6-99.25kg. I assume here that Gordon falls around 202lbs/91.6kg
Part 5: The Math
Okay so, we have the weight of the cinderblocks used, we have the weight of Gordon himself, and we have the weight of the weapons. Fantastic! Now to do everyone's least favorite thing, Math.
First The cinderblocks since they’re the foundation (haha get it) of our entire project here.
52/2= 26lbs                                                                  23.5/2=11.75kg
52x6= 312 lbs                                                               23.5x6=141kg
312 + 26= 338lbs                                                         141 + 11.75= 152.75kg
Next we’re going to get the weight of the two weapons
1.7 + 18= 19.7lbs                                                              8.2 + .77= 8.97kg
Great. Now we have all the numbers we need.
338-19/7= 318.3lbs                                                         152.75-8.97= 143.78kg
318.3-202= 116.3lbs                                                       143.78-91.6= 52.18kg
YAAAYYYYY WE FOUND IT OUT
The H.E.V. weighs 116.3lbs/52.18
congrats :]

This Time it's forever
So, I know I promised or rather said I will take my weightloss seriously but life happened and before I knew what was happening, I found myself where I am. It also didn't help that there was a spiritual attack on me that led to me almost dying but I thank God for who He is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, I am making a committment to myself for this weightloss journey again. I started on the 15th of May 2024 weighing 151.8kg..... Yes you read that right. Today I climbed the scale and I am 150.8.kg. My goal is to get down to 80kg but ideally around 72 to 77kg so please pray for me. I also did a 20 minute workout today that killed me but anyhoo it is what it is.
Tumblr media
Pray for me because I didn't do great with my diet today so it is back at the gym for me tomorrow and I have a trip to Ghana coming up so I must loose as much as I can. This time I mean business because time waits for nobody and I need to be healthy asap because who knows if the man God sends me will be patient enough for me to lose the weight eh.

He might be a bit comical, but his ability to catch rebounds is the real deal! He's unbeatable when he puts his mind to it!
happy birthday hayakawa 🥺💕 im glad i could finish this in time to post it today! rebound is love rebound is life etc. using alisayamins scans again for the pages above, and below the cut is the transcription ^__^
Burn it all in a (r)ebound battle!!
He beats them all under the hoop with endless endurance and fighting spirit! His body and technique are still developing, but his enthusiasm and stamina more than make up for it! He contributes to the team's offense with his specialty: rebounds!
PROFILE: ● Height: 185cm ● Weight: 77kg ● Birthday: August 18 (Leo) ● Blood type: B ● Motto: The anxiety that comes from doing nothing is worse than any danger you might face / It's easier to do something than worry about it / Action is worry's worst enemy ● Favorite food: Crab cream croquettes ● Hobby: Modelguns ● Special skill: Target shooting -> likely as in shooting games like in festivals, the kind where you try to hit the prizes? hes a gun enthusiast so im not sure lol but prize games made up most of the results when i looked it up ● Best school subject: World history ● Committee: Physical education committee ● Family: Father, mother, older brother ● Not good at: Tongue twisters ● Special skill (basketball): Offensive rebounds ● Type of girls he likes: A calm / laid-back / easygoing person ● How he spends his time off: Taking care of his modelguns (maintenance) ● Why he started playing basketball: Because the basketball club felt the most intense (passionate) ● Player he has his eye on: Wakamatsu Kousuke
KUROtter!! He'd make a good captain. (Mx. T, Osaka prefecture)
“This time fo(r) su(r)e...! (R)ebooound!!”
Hayakawa Mitsuhiro’s memorable moment: Kasamatsu missed a shot early into the inter-high quarterfinals, setting up the stage for a rebound battle against Touou’s Susa and Wakamatsu! They might have had an edge over him in terms of size, but Hayakawa overpowered them with his intensity and his assist led to a successful shot!!
Kaijou High 2nd year; Hayakawa Mitsuhiro Kaijou's number one passionate guy! He likes to get up close and personal with his opponents while fighting it out under the hoop, and his enthusiasm for rebounds is second to none!!
A rebounder with endless fighting spirit!! He might be a bit comical, but his ability to catch rebounds is the real deal! He's unbeatable when he puts his mind to it!
FAVORITE: Hayakawa's plays are just so passionate and energetic! His amped-up attitude may fire up those around him… or on the contrary, irritate them!?
He's so noisy, he could be called a mood-maker!? He's got too much energy and makes a big deal out of every little thing! It really gets on Wakamatsu's nerves!!
Anyway, isn’t his speech way too characteristic!? Hayakawa not only talks too fast, but he always messes up his r's as well! Just a few words and his presence is already felt! -> im not sure about this one but i think what i put as “characteristic” in the title doesnt just mean like unique but also specifically typical of a fictional character
A word from Fujimaki-sensei! Now that I think about it, I’m not sure that not being able to pronounce r’s is a good trait for a character to have.
KUROtter!! A pure angel who can't pronounce r's! (Mx. N, Ibaraki prefecture)

thought the wolf would be heavier
Anon, anon, anon, anon, anon, anon.............. Why must you enable me so
Yes, she's kind of light, right? Almost alarmingly light, for a wolf her size.
I mean, keeping the height-to-weight proportion from Ruby as a human, at least: Ruby is tall, but is relatively skinny, a lightweight — not a lot of muscle there, she's lean. So, transforming into her wolf form, she'd keep that proportion. (Or we would have to get into body mass, bone density and all — and that's enough math for one day, let’s save it for later)
EDIT: The normal body weight for a wolf her size would be: if 8-inch paw — 44,9 inches (114 cm)  →  203,5 lbs (92,3 kg) if 10-inch paw —  56,1 inches (142 cm)  → 254.3 lbs (115.4 kg)  if 13-inch paw —  72,9 inches (185 cm)  → 330,70 lbs (150kg)
*a 10-inch paw wolf size being my personal selection for her
But, (and that was a headcanon that popped into my head as soon as I got those numbers), what if we think that Ruby's wolf is that light on purpose. As in: she's not eating as much.
Now that's fun. And by fun, I mean: we get to think of angsty scenarios.
As a human, Ruby would have a fast metabolism, thanks to her wolf healing and all that comes with it, so she wouldn't put on weight that easily. She gets hungry and she can eat a lot, but her body burns it fast.
And, as a wolf, once Ruby learns control, she simply doesn't eat a lot. Because eating as a wolf means hunting for small (or large) animals in a more intimate way, killing them with her teeth, draining life with her mouth — and eating them raw. That's very different from hunting and preparing the meat as a human. Now, as a wolf, she's conscious of the death and the blood she's spilling; it's not as simple.
Most importantly, once Ruby learns control, she's not eating humans anymore. And she's not going on a killing rampage, like she did before.
"The wolf took out a dozen last night". — Man in charge of hunting party in Red’s village. S01E15
A dozen sheep. A dozen. That's 12 whole sheep. Was the wolf eating all of that? A dozen in one night?! Sheep? It's one thing to kill the many hunters that are trying to kill her, but sheep? Why was the wolf killing so much? Are you telling me the wolf could (partially) eat a dozen sheep in one night?
Give me a minute. Google?
How much meat do wolves eat a day?
It has been estimated that wolves consume around 10 pounds of meat per day, on average. However, wolves don't actually eat everyday. Instead, they live a feast or famine lifestyle; they may go several days without a meal and then gorge on over 20 pounds of meat when a kill is made.
That’s, for Ruby’s wolf size (in the 10+ inches range, I’ve decided, you can take me to court), 7.8 lbs of meat a day on average, or 15.7lbs on a particularly hungry day. That’s for a wild, feral werewolf.
And, wild and feral as she was before, she basically ate most of Peter.
Let’s say he weighs 77kgs (https://bodysize.org/pt/jesse-hutch/). And she ate 60% of him.
Tumblr media
And I mean, that’s not even close. What would you say is left here? 40%? 30%? It looks like a quarter of a person. Let’s go with 25%. Meaning she ate 75% of her boyfriend. (Folks, this made it on TV. Do you see that foot there? That was shown on ABC. That’s canon. Can you believe that?)
So 75% of 77kg  is 57.75kg. Of person. Eaten. In one time. On the third night of Wolfstime.
Can you— Take a look at the wolf’s grocery list for those three days, okay:
Tumblr media
(reportedly) 12 sheep;
(at least) 4 hunters (barely even eaten, to be fair);
and (approximately) 57kg of a guy
That’s one hungry, hungry wolf.
But now she’s in control. I’m sure Ruby is not eating as much anymore. She’s lost some weight, she’s prioritizing her meals as a human, so the wolf won’t be as uncontrollably hungry anymore. She’s got a hold on it. She has to.
Yes, her wolf is thin and light and sometimes her stomach will growl louder than she can bare, but it’s better than the alternative.
It’s better than how she was eating before.

She placed at countless events and has been commended a lot for her best ability to crush anyone who thinks they can best her in any way. She also loves to bake, picked up the hobby from her dad and hasn’t looked back. She’s a prankster and has an inkling for horrible memes when it comes down to it.
Talents/Skills/Powers: She has the power to cook or bake anything and have it be perfect every single time and everyone around her thinks she sold her soul or something to achieve that. She’s got a bright smile and her kindness knows no bounds. She’s happy to help others and it doesn’t weigh on her in any way, helping is her pleasure.
Physical Characteristics
Height: 5’10ft (177.8cm)
Weight: 170lbs (77kg)
Posture: She stands tall and is always looking to the sky. She tends to meet everyone’s eyes when they look at her and smile warmly.
Build: Hourglass figure but it’s borderline. Her legs have a lot of stride to them because she works out so often. She’s not too heavy on top but if you catch her wearing something other than a sweater, you can see where her hips dip.
Skin:  She’s outside all the time, so she’s fairly tan. She takes care of her skin so there’s not a lot of freckles to be seen anywhere.

Eyes: Golden eyes.
Nose: Up-turned!
Mouth: Cupid’s bow! Tends not to exaggerate it or anything, simple gloss is what she aims for as she’s not too big on makeup.
Face shape: Oval! Slim and not too much baby fat to be seen anymore now that she’s gotten out of her teen years.
Expressions: Big smile, full of teeth. Wide eyes that are always filled with joy, and a bit of a laugh that lingers when she’s speaking to anyone.
Tattoos/Scars?: She’s got some lingering marks on her arm from where she fell out of a tree once as a kid, it’s not really something you notice as it’s faded over the years but she can feel it and knows that it’s there.
Left/Right handed? Left!
Distinguishing features: That smile of hers is what she’s known for and that’s that. Her height is also something that people point out and make fun of. She doesn’t really let it get to her anymore but there was a time when she felt a bit awkward and ganguly around others who made fun of her for something she couldn’t help.
Who does s/he take after; mother or father?: A mixture of both and then some of her own. She’s got a good mom and dad. She looks more like her mom but most people tell her that she’s more like her dad than any other person. She’s always smiling and helping others, and she’s got his zest for life like nobody’s business.
Style (Elegant, shabby, etc): Athleisure. Comfy.
How does s/he dress or what do they typically wear? Sweats, joggers, loose fitting clothes. She wears tanks and pulls a sweater over her shoulders and calls it a day. She loves to wear things that are easy to get on and get off. She will go for runs whenever she wants to clear her head and it’s easy if you just dress like that. Some call it simple but she calls it comfortable.
Health:. She’s always been someone that hasn’t had any problems with her health. She’s never really been too sick and it’s never been all that hard for her to do what she wants. She tends to have some growing pains every now and again but that’s not really much to whine about or anything when it comes down to it, she says.
Background: Minji lived an average picture perfect life. She has a mom, a dad, and a little sibling that she loves dearly and means the world to her and she would do anything for them. Her parents treated her with kindness and she learned from them that it is the best policy to have a smile and share that with others. She takes that policy to heart. She does everything for everyone with a smile and seeing others look better is what makes her feel good. She isn’t drained by being around other people,  she thrives on that.
She’s always been a big girl, taller than the others in her class. She sort of felt ganguly and awkward when she sprouted up and was taller than a lot of the boys but she got over the teasing eventually. It just didn’t really bother her as much as when she found her passion. She loves to run, it feels like her body is on air when she takes off. It’s just always been a passion of hers. If she’s worried or bothered, she just runs.
Minji has never had to be something she’s not and she’s never been pressured to do something she didn’t want to do. She’s always got what she wanted and never had any worries. She knows that she is very lucky but she wants others to know that they deserve to be treated with respect, even if they’ve been hurt a lot. She does that by baking, she makes the best treats that she learned from her dad to share with others. She makes a lemon tart like you could not believe.
Her dream is to be able to share warmth with the world.

Nozuyama Yukihiro Interview for Animage Magazine
This interview was taken from April 2018 Animage Magazine vol. 478. Make sure to buy it to support Hypnosis Mic and Nozuyama.

Comrades unable to grasp
The mystery of the gambling enthusiast and the radio cassette mystery
——What kind of character is Arisugawa Dice?
Nozuyama: He is someone with gap in appearance. The first time I saw his visual, I got the impression that he would absolutely tear down any guy with his fighting spirit. But as I got to know his character, I noticed that he has a childish or like a youngest child side.  If you just look at Fling Posse, you would think he’s probably the oldest one, but he’s actually the youngest. By the way, he’s the heaviest of the 12 characters, weighing in at 77kg. He’s surprisingly well built, could it be because of the weight of that radio cassette he has in the first illustration...
——First of all, why does Dice have a radio cassette?
Nozuyama: That’s a mystery. Maybe he had it since he encountered Amemura Ramuda, or maybe he’s had it since birth. I hope this will be revealed to us someday (laughs).
——Arisugawa Dice is a gambling enthusiast, isn’t he?
Nozuyama: I’m sure Arisugawa Dice likes any and all types of gambling. Even I haven’t been told why he became a gambling enthusiast yet. He is a young man that seeks the feeling of thrill so much that he once placed his life on the betting table, I wonder what happened and how it happened, I’d be happy if they describe it in the future. He’s crazy about gambling, yet what felt more thrilling than any of his gambling experiences was when Ramuda showed him the “world in which you can battle with hypnosis microphones”. The hypnosis microphone acts directly on the mind and its power can even kill people depending on how it’s used. Dice’s MC name is “Dead Or Alive”, which means “To die or to live”. It’s without a doubt the thrill Dice is searching for.
——What kind of team is Fling Posse?
Nozuyama: They are a cuteish team that makes you feel young. Although this could be because Ramuda, who is the center, is cute. The three members are composed of: a designer, a gambler and a novelist. When I look at the team’s occupations, gambler is definitely the most mysterious one. I wonder if it’ll become an actual occupation (laughs). Out of the four teams, they are the only team whose past isn’t shown. Yumeno Gentaro is also enigmatic, and it seems like Ramuda can’t read the atmosphere properly, it feels like there’s something hidden below the surface. However, even though it’s likely there is something hidden, I think Dice hasn’t noticed anything (laughs). It feels like Ramuda has Dice dancing in the palm of his hand.
——What kind of image does Gentaro have?
Nozuyama: I think that Gentaro catches on less than Ramuda. It looks like he joined Fling Posse by going along with Ramuda, but what is the truth? I can never tell if what Gentaro says is the truth or a lie. He has this mysterious side that attracts me. It’s good to have a character like Gentaro spreading wild ideas. Maybe even the entire “Hypnosis Mic” story is made up by Gentaro, and Dice is just a character in it. Sometimes I have crazy ideas (laughs). I would be scared if that were true. If Dice messes up, Gentaro could think he’s a useless character and erase him (laughs). But, seeing the interactions in the drama CD, Gentaro and Dice seem to get along just fine, so it’s okay.
——I will be asking about the songs now. To start with, twelve people sang in the “Hypnosis Mic- Division Rap Battle -” song.
Nozuyama: I remember that my first thought when I heard the sample was “This has such a serious feeling!”. It’s interesting for a gambler to rap and the song is very cool. But, I was worried about how serious it was. I originally had a “bad” image of hip-hop, so it wasn’t positive. However, when I actually got involved with it, I saw that it wasn’t like that.
——How was it singing your part of the 12 person song?
Nozuyama: Continuing the mic relay from Ikebukuro, as soon as it got to Shibuya it rose up one tone. You can feel Fling Posse’s popness from this part alone. In Dice’s lyrics is the punchline “game-stalling joker”. It’s an impressive word, a favorite of mine. The way I sang this punchline in the sample, there was no force so it had this cool feeling to it. Yet, when I heard that “Dice has a pure child-like side” I changed it to a more bursting way of singing.
——How about your solo song “3$EVEN”?
Nozuyama: Out of the Shibuya Division solos, I think this song is the closest to what people think rap is. You can see a lot of Dice in his lyrics, especially during the “Hit it, hit it” and “It’s but a dream” phrases. Having the punchline be “It’s but a dream” is a bit disappointing (laughs).  Even though he’s born with luck, he’s just barely surviving, life is never easy, right?
The match against Shinjuku requires a meeting?!
——It was announced that entering the new chapter “Battle Season”, Fling Posse will be battling against Shinjuku Division’s Matenrou.
Nozuyama: In Matenrou is my mentor, Hayami Show-san, as Jinguji Jakurai. That’s why I have to stay motivated! Matenrou looks like a cooperative team. Hifumi is very excited, Doppo is the straightman, and Jinguji-san has the image of wrapping them together.
——Jakurai has healing abilities, right?
Nozuyama: That’s right! Even if the three members of Shibuya Division keep attacking Hifumi and Doppo, Jinguji-san can keep healing them. The ability to heal from a distance is a huge problem. So it might be best to attack Jinguji-san with three people. But Jakurai-san could keep healing himself being “quite hard to defeat” and could be hard to handle since there’s still the chance of being attacked by Hifumi and Doppo...
——What do you think is most likely Fling Posse’s strength?
Nozuyama: Fling Posse gives off the vibe of not being the most cooperative team out of the four. They stand out a lot individually. But, having tricky tactics as a strong point, hopefully fighting without understanding might work... It might be necessary to hold a meeting with the three members of Fling Posse!
——What would you like to do with “Hypnosis Mic” in the future?
Nozuyama: I’d like to try a song with the other members of Fling Posse. The three would have a good feeling when brought together, it could have tremendous power. On the Niconama’s lyric match, I was able to show my rapping, if it wasn’t for everyone before I wouldn’t have been able to show this composition, I would be happy to do a live someday. It would be nice to do a mic relay with all 12 members on stage. Also, I would like to write my own lyrics someday. More practice is necessary for now...
——The lyrics used for lyric match on the Niconama live are submitted by the viewers.
Nozuyama: Previously, when I went on the broadcast two days before my birthday I was glad that people sent in lyrics related to it. Our viewers’ skills keep going up everyday, so I have to work hard too. Maybe I should submit something too next time (laughs).
——Lastly, please send a message to the readers!
Nozuyama: We’re finally entering the “Battle Season”. I’m also looking forward to what kind of battles there will be and I’ll keep improving my skills. Please support Fling Posse and take them to the final battle. Thank you!

SSO Circus Comic creation sheet
@ssocircus
Couldn’t help myself, so I’m submitting Capri :’D Hope that’s alright!
Basics
Name: Capri Colder
Nickname, if any: Cap
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Birthday: 4th of April
Place of birth: Stockholm, Sweden
Religion: None, though, is a fairly spiritual person in general.
Pets: Her trusty Jorvik Warmblood companion, Daydream.
Sexuality: Bisexual
Partner: None
Family: Mother and father, both alive and happy in Stockholm. She keeps in touch with them both regularly but tends not to speak of them to others as she’s a fairly private gal.
Appearance
The photo this application is attached to is my own drawing of Capri and I feel like it represents her fairly well!
Height: 178cm
Weight: 77kg
Bodytype: Ectomorph through and through lol
Eye color: Green
Hair color: Black
Hairstyle: Short and simple, tries to keep it somewhat tamed or it’s up in a quick and messy bun.
Skin colour: Rather fair with warmer undertones.
Prominent features (Scars, freckles, moles): Does have a rather big tattoo on her back and up her right shoulder (trash polka style with the theme being horses), has a few scattered scars on left arm after a bad fall from a horse.
Any health problems: Allergic to peanuts and shellfish. Does deal with a case of milder social anxiety, though, manages reasonably most of the time.
How do they dress: Capri tends to favor function most of all and enjoys looser clothing when possible. Doesn’t enjoy too many details and avoid jewelry nearly all the time unless there’s a special occasion. She favors blues and greens and enjoys simple designs, preferably geometrics. Clean cut gal.
Accessories: Usually avoids most accessories, but is occasionally seen with simple bracelets or necklaces of leather and possibly with stones/crystals.
Behavior
Wealth: Decently well off. She was raised to care for her money well and has her finances in an iron grip, often sticking to only spending money on what is absolutely needed and will rarely throw things away unless it’s absolutely necessary. If she wants something, she can usually afford.
Any addictions: None.
Morning mood: Neutral. Capri doesn’t enjoy mornings, but she has little problem getting out of bed. May get cranky if people try to stress her right away or interrupt her fifteen minutes of relaxation when getting up, however.
Usual workday on the circus (Do they help in the stables, clean up after performances, practice etc): Capri is the kind that would happily help with whatever is needed, but prefers more secluded work and would probably mostly spend her time cleaning up/keeping things organized or practice what she does.
Skills/Talents: Has great balance, speaks three languages, quite good at organizing and managing things and knows how to juggle quite well.
Thing they’re bad at: Cooking, controlling her temper, keeping track of time (which is funny given the way she always organizes and manages the rest of her life so well), dealing with children, being patient.
Hobbies: Capri quite enjoys going for walks and working out, often seeking desolate places and exploring the nearby areas. She’s also quite fond of reading and leaning along with training her best pal and horse, Daydream, to do tricks.
Past: Capri first set foot on Jorvik as a child during their family holidays as her mother was quite fond of horses. They spent their summers riding on the island and Capri grew quite fond of Jorvik. When she became older, she decided she wanted to head out to find her place and where she belonged. She wanted to see what was out here and what the world had to offer.
Her first stop, mostly because it was at least somewhat familiar and Capri was a little frightened about heading out all on her own, was Jorvik. She found herself a cheap apartment and took on various jobs, learning much as she went along. Her education had centered around plants and farming and she put her knowledge to use, aiding with the wildlife and farms around.
Then she met Daydream. She’d always enjoyed horses, sure, but Daydream truly felt like home and the restless part of Capri’s soul that wanted to see everything stilled somewhat. She bought him fast and decided to truly give Jorvik a chance as a forever home, though, always keeps a door open for herself should she want to leave the island and continue her search for a place to belong.
Given that she jumps between jobs and tries new things frequently, it is likely that Capri would be fairly new to the circus world.
What do they want in the future:
Any special goals:
Close friends: Capri doesn’t really have any close friends, though would probably consider Tilda Underwell and Jamie Silentborn to be good friends as the three of them has spent a considerable time together on the island during Capri’s years on Jorvik. Being so reserved, it’s not always easy for her to make new friends, either.
Enemies/Rivals: None. She’s hard to befriend and hard to really get against one. Her temper may be brutal, but she rarely actually lumps someone into the category of ‘true dislike’ and isn’t the type to get into rivalries.
Greatest strength: Her determination and drive to go, go, go.
Greatest flaw: Her temper - it truly messes things up quite a lot.
Favorite
Food: Fries & Mayo
Drink: Chai tea
Color: Navy blue
Book: There’s loads, Capri would never be able to pick a favorite.
Film: The Goonies
Music/Song: Happy - Never Shout Never
TV: Criminal Minds
Sport: Downhill Skiing
Motto/Quote: ‘If you live for having it all, what you have is never enough.’
Act
What is their act (Examples): Capri specialized at the tightrope. She would usually do object manipulation.
Do they use any animals? If so, what kinds: No.
Do they usually succeed: Yes.
Are they good at it: Very much so. Capri is by no means skilled enough to become world famous or go into the books, but she stands out from the crowds for sure.
Why do they do it: Because it suits her personality. The tightrope demands focus at all times and up there, she feels at ease. She’s part of the fun, but she gets to keep her distance from the crowds and the other performers. Being a somewhat solitary person that doesn’t thrive when socializing, it’s her little in-between of being a part of something bigger without being in the total center of it. And when she was younger, Capri was incredibly fascinated by Philippe Petit due to her parents having witnessed his New York walk themselves and dreamed of doing something as incredible as it. Her dream never really took off, as her parents didn’t approve, but she still spent a significant amount of time learning about the craft, practicing it and doing little stunts by herself all through her youth and even into her older years. If it’s small and difficult to walk on, Capri would do it. Always.
Do they do it with someone else: No, Capri does her act solo.
How do they dress during their performance: Capri has a few different outfits she would wear, often going for the fairly standard ‘short dress’ that many tightrope walkers wears. She tends to stick to blue colors, but has a few differently themed dresses such as a pirate one, a neon one and a pink one.
What kind of music plays during their performance: I would imagine something ‘classic’ like High Wire: Kentucky Sunrise (Two-Step) by The Big Top Orchestra really or something close to it.
Personality
Capri is a fairly reserved individual and doesn’t enjoy sharing much about herself, preferring to listen and learn. She has a good heart yet fails to show it often, not always sure how to interact with people or how to deal with things. She enjoys helping others and being busy, often taking on big projects and is reliable with her work - even if she tends to show up ten minutes late. With one heck of a temper, she does tend to butt heads with many and sometimes does lash out unfairly at people or get into fights about stupid things. She doesn’t hold grudges, however, and tries her best to own up when she’s done wrong by someone. The friends she does have she treasures deeply and being a fiercely loyal girl, she would go to great lengths to protect them with all her being.
There are definitively times when Capri is too rash and forward, not the type to sugarcoat things once she’d in it. She doesn’t do it to be mean and often reads situations well enough to know when not to run her mouth, genuinely caring but also knowing that sometimes people need hard truths. She’s great at organizing, planning and managing projects but can often struggle a little with communicating clearly with everyone involved in things she does. Crowds isn’t her favorite things either, as she’s not very interested in attention or being the center of anything, but she usually manages alright.
Her mild social anxiety does show at times and usually with new people or when she thinks she’s messed up by saying something wrong or after arguments when her temper backs off. She overthinks things like that a lot and it makes it difficult for her to let people in as she’s so uncertain about many things regarding friendships, socializing and the people around her. But once she’s more comfortable with people, it usually lessens and she does alright. However, she’s still a quite silent and reserved person with friends as well and rarely shares anything about herself unless asked first.

You totally don't have to answer this if you don't want to and I mean absolutely no disrespect or am I meaning to make you uncomfortable but can I ask at what weight you started to fear for your health? I've always had trouble with my weight and it's peaked again recently and I feel so defeated and lost..
Don’t worry, darlin’, you’re absolutely fine!
I’ve been ‘over’ my ideal healthy weight for a while. For my height, build, daily activity, etc., I would be ideal at 150lbs (68kg) though most charts would have me around 135lbs (61kg), I’m not going to attempt that.
For most of last year, I was hovering around 170lbs (77kg), which gave me some pause. I was a little upset with it, but I didn’t feel as if it were terrible. However, over the course of 2017 I started noticing clothes getting tighter, my physical abilities were diminishing, and I was developing some unhealthy habits.
Earlier in December, I stepped on a scale for the first time in months, and I was 195lbs (88kg). I’m not so much concerned with the size I am so much as my physical abilities, and the risks that come with so much weight around my heart and organs, (also, I don’t want to buy new clothes right now). I’m short. I don’t have a extremely active daily life, and those things combined are raising the probabilities of something going wrong.
My concern stems from bad genes on both sides of my family. I haven’t been to a doctor in a while, and the last time I went, she was warning me that because of my blood, there is a higher chance of me having problems. I don’t want to deal with doctors and medical things, (also I don’t have money for new clothes. I like mine.)
Bodyweight fluxes during life. Stress will affect it, women’s cycles will affect it, numerous other things will affect it. But, the reason I am putting my foot down is because this is my doing. My eating habits have been unhealthy. I’ve gone from not eating enough last year to eating far too much (a problem I’ve had since childhood).
Whatever weight you are at or whatever one you want- be sure it’s healthy for you. Don’t try to change for looks or image. If it is your health that’s the concern, then don’t feel defeated, hon. Small changes can go a long way. Don’t tell yourself you can’t have things. Ask yourself if you truly want it. Before you make a decision, try to pause and think long term. It’s easy to get discouraged and feel defeated. It’s easy to be crushed by this impossible sounding goal, but it’s not impossible. One day at a time. Take life one day at a time. And when you fall, don’t allow yourself to stay down. Forgive yourself, dust yourself off, and keep going. One slip doesn’t equal failure.
Pain is not failure. Getting off track isn’t failure. It is hard. It is painful. It SUCKS at times and it’s AMAZING at others.
You’re not defeated, darlin. We can do this. ♥︎

—— ❝ tell us, what kind of person are you ?? ❞
[ star sign ] sagittarius - curious and energetic, sagittarius is one of the biggest travelers among all zodiac signs. their open mind and philosophical view motivates them to wander around the world in search of the meaning of life. sagittarius is extrovert, optimistic and enthusiastic, and likes changes. sagittarius-born are able to transform their thoughts into concrete actions and they will do anything to achieve their goals. like the other fire signs, sagittarius needs to be constantly in touch with the world to experience as much as possible. the ruling planet of sagittarius is jupiter, the largest planet of the zodiac. their enthusiasm has no bounds, and therefore people born under the sagittarius sign possess a great sense of humor and an intense curiosity. freedom is their greatest treasure, because only then they can freely travel and explore different cultures and philosophies. because of their honesty, sagittarius-born are often impatient and tactless when they need to say or do something, so it's important to learn to express themselves in a tolerant and socially acceptable way.
[ alignment ] chaotic good - a chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. he makes his own way, but he's kind and benevolent. he believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. he hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. he follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society.
[ enneagram type ] type seven, the enthusiast - sevens are extroverted, optimistic, versatile, and spontaneous. playful, high-spirited, and practical, they can also misapply their many talents, becoming over-extended, scattered, and undisciplined. they constantly seek new and exciting experiences, but can become distracted and exhausted by staying on the go. they typically have problems with impatience and impulsiveness.
[ colour personality ] deep pink, #FF1493 - your dominant hues are red and magenta. you love doing your own thing and going on your own adventures, but there are close friends you know you just can't leave behind. you can influence others on days when you're patient, but most times you just want to go out, have fun, and do your own thing. your saturation level is high - you get into life and have a strong personality. everyone you meet will either love you or hate you - either way, your goal is to get them to change the world with you. you are very hard working and don't have much patience for people without your initiative. your outlook on life is very bright. you are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.
[ what plants best represent you ] dandelion: scrappy and tough, you’re a pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps kind of person. you don’t give up easily and you often thrive in situations that others would find discouraging. you have an instinct to serve others and see yourself as most useful in times or places of crisis, but you may over rely on your toughness and forget how sensitive you really are. echinacea: a protector. with an amazing blend of optimism, nurturing and goodwill, you lend your strength and energy to those in need. your seemingly infinite goodwill and boundless supportive energy make you the one people turn to when times are tough. your greatest strength is, of course, also one of your weaknesses, especially if you neglect to take care of yourself. at times like these, it’s a good idea to take a step back and focus some of that protective energy on yourself. ginger: spirited. a feisty and fiery companion, quick with an opinion, a laugh or an idea. warm, friendly and inviting, you never allow an awkward moment to pass. in fact, even cold and distant people warm up to you more quickly than others. negative experiences or too much indulgence, however, can send you into a bit of a tailspin, and when hurt you may become quite cold and distant. ginger people do best when their natural warmth and affection is flowing freely, giving them easy access to their love of life.
[ theme/character song ] ‘ cigarette daydreams ’ cage the elephant - you can drive all night, looking for the answers in the pouring rain, you wanna find peace of mind, looking for the answer
—— ❝ do you have anything more you wish to say ?? ❞

Losing Weight With UFC Fighter Steven Ray
Losing Weight With UFC Fighter Steven Ray - http://mmauk.net/2019/05/31/losing-weight-with-ufc-fighter-steven-ray/
Losing Weight With UFC Fighter Steven Ray
This weekend Scottish UFC fighter Steven Ray takes on Leonardo Santos in Stockholm at UFC Sweden.
After his weight cut Ray posted on his Facebook page details about his weight cut and advice on how to lose weight.
Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day anyone looking to lose weight, shape up etc etc.
Let’s say it’s weight loss we’re talking about here since that’s probably the most popular.
Before we start let me put it out there that I love junk food after my fight First thing I’ll be having is most likely pizza.
Photo 1 – 1 week before my surgery start of February and to be fair I was still training regularly just my diet wasn’t 100% I was trying to eat clean for a bit because I knew I had surgery soon too. Around 84kg
Photo 2 – around the start of my fight camp (April 6th) (8 weeks ago) roughly 82/83kg
Photo 3 – making weight for my fight (may 30th) 70kg although after rehydrating and eating some food I’ll be roughly around 77kg
To lose weight you have to be in a calorie deficit this is fact. If you’re eating good and not getting the results you want it’s because you’re eating too much pure and simple. Yeah sometimes your weight can fluctuate due to salt holding water etc but over a period of time if your weight isn’t coming down gradually it’s because your eating too much and aren’t in a calorie deficit.
Can you eat junk and lose weight? Of course it just makes it way more difficult because the junk will have more calories than good food which means you get to eat less food. I had a cheat day every Saturday where I ate what I wanted during that day I will have ate chocolate a takeaway maybe ice cream etc. I Still tried to watch my calories though so I didn’t over do it.
One thing I would recommend is getting my fitness pal it’s also free I used it a fair bit this camp to keep track of my calories and I ended up eating more than I used to and had more energy etc but there was some surprising things I seen as well for example having a skinny latte with the syrup in it from costa worked out way more calories than I thought it had in it. 41 calories per pump i am sure it was of the syrup alone and they use 4 pumps. 164 calories from the syrup alone something along those lines.
Below is an example of what I’ve done for my fight camp I write this in at the start then fill in the weights as I go. Once per week. And as long as I was losing 1kg per week which was my rough goal per week then I knew I was on track if I didn’t I would know I need to adjust.
Weight cut Stockholm 2019
Sat 20th April 79kg (jits comp) Sat 27th April (art of combat) 79.2kg 4th May 78.4kg 11th May 77.2kg (3 weeks) 17th 76.9kg 18th May 75.8kg (2weeks) Mon 76.8kg Wed (start salt) 75.9kg 25th May 74.9kg 26th 75.4kg (Sunday) Fight week Mon 27th 74.7kg Tues 28th 74.6kg Thurs after food etc 164.5lb (8.5lb out) 31st May 70.3kg
There’s far too many people out there with too many excuses. If you want to lose weight but aren’t then it’s because you’re eating too much or being lazy!
If you really want it then make it happen.
Goals is one of the most important parts of this. Could I make 70.3kg if I didn’t have a fight probably not unless something else was on the line that made me want or have to do it. If I could eat pizza on a Saturday night would I ? Probably! But I had some goals even before my fight to hit a certain weight (my jits comp) Set yourself goals, short goals and long goals whatever they may be it could be to hit a certain weight. It can also be fitness related like run 1 mile then the longer goal run 5k etc you will eventually get there.
I hope this post helps some people out there trying to lose weight/shape up. During this process I try to eat clean 6 days per week or at least 5. (Mon-fri) sat I usually eat clean during the day and junk at night. Sunday depending how close the fight is would be cleanish or cleaner closer to fight.
As for training I recommend trying to train 5 days per week if you can and have 2 days off. If that’s too much then build up to it.
Anyway write down some goals on your notes or on paper or whatever short and long.
Peace out and good luck if anyone gonna give it a try.

Matrix PowerWatch X review: The would-be future of wearables It’s about time the smartwatch fitness tracker industry did something interesting. We only need so many devices to count calories and measure heart rate. The Matrix PowerWatch X might be just the shakeup that we’re looking for. This watch has pretty light fitness and “smart” functionality, but nevertheless grabs attention with one show-stopping feature: it never needs charging! That’s right, this is a watch with a digital display and accompanying app that you can wear indefinitely without ever needing to look for a power outlet thanks to its proprietary thermoelectric technology. The PowerWatch X (like previous models) is powered by your own body heat, charging as you wear it. We’ve all seen analogue timepieces pull a similar trick by using kinetic energy. However, that a digital watch with notifications, a stopwatch, and more never needs a charge is really interesting. Is the Matrix PowerWatch X a device you’ll want to wear on your wrist? Let’s take a look in our full Matrix PowerWatch X review. Features and capabilities As I alluded to earlier, this watch isn’t all that smart. It’s light on fitness tracking features too. It’s got a clock (of course), as well as a stopwatch mode and a running mode. It can receive notifications (SMS and phone calls), count calories, steps, and track sleep. Matrix also says customizable watch faces are coming. All this runs on a custom, very light OS, which you navigate with two buttons and a dial on one side of the device. To change settings and access your data, you need to use the accompanying app for iOS and Android. Instead of a heart rate monitor, the watch calculates calories at least partly by your body heat. Seeing as the body converts heat into energy, it’s theoretically another route for getting a good estimate. Apparently, the body generates 100 watts of heat at rest, and that number then jumps to a kilowatt when exercising! That body heat is what gives the watch its longevity. Never having to take your watch off to charge is very cool, and it also makes a lot of sense for a fitness tracker. After all, if you’re meant to count your steps and track your sleep, when exactly are you meant to charge these things? Moreover, this could be very useful for someone doing a long expedition who doesn’t want their device to die halfway through the trip. It’s also going to win favor with the environmentally friendly crowd, seeing as bioenergy is pretty clean! For the average Joe, it might sound like a small thing, but it’s strangely liberating knowing you’ll never have to charge your device. (Even if most fitness trackers only require charging once every few days or even weeks the rest of the time anyway!) Interestingly, it’s not so much your body heat alone that charges the device, but rather the differential between your body heat and the ambient temperature. If you’re running and getting hot somewhere that is very cold, that actually charges it faster. When you take the device off, it enters an idle mode, saving your data until you next put it on. Apparently, it can last in this idle mode for up to two years. Performance So, there aren’t a ton of features here aside from the battery, which might lead you to expect the watch would perform those few jobs really well. Not so much. The notifications are very basic, to the point where you’re literally just being notified that you have a call incoming, or an SMS received, and who it is from, rather than what it says. You’ll need to open your phone to learn anything about it. Worse, sometimes they don’t come through at all. The predecessor to this device — the Matrix PowerWatch (the X is new) — actually comes without the notifications. You could always save yourself a few bucks and some frustration by getting that instead. Then there’s the sleep tracking, which flat out doesn’t work as far as I can tell. It’s supposed to auto-detect when you doze off and there is no way to start the tracking manually. According to the Matrix PowerWatch X, I haven’t slept a wink in the past three days. Disappointing! The sleep tracking just flat out doesn’t work as far as I can tell. Step counting fairs a little better and largely correlates with what my other devices tell me. Calorie counting is definitely a little strange though. I’m 77kg with around 11 percent body fat at the moment. Yesterday I walked 6,923 steps and did a 40-minute workout, but apparently only burned 1,500 calories. That is way off, and I would expect to see at least 2,400 calories. This could be at least partly because the device wasn’t tracking my sleep — you burn a surprising number of calories at night. It could also be due to the simple fact that heat alone isn’t enough to calculate calories accurately. If it was combined with a heart rate monitor (which would require significantly more juice to power) that would be a different story. Working out with the MATRIX PowerWatch. It can only track runs unfortunately but also seemed to fail to notice I burned extra calories for this hour… Moreover, I’m not convinced the device is actually doing any BMR calculations to work out how many calories I burn at rest. You can input your details into the app, but it never explicitly asks you to. Since finding that option, I haven’t noticed much difference. I love being able to see the power meter on the watch face — telling me how much electric power my body is generating — but that information doesn’t really correlate with anything particularly useful (it seems to go up and down randomly with no relation to what I’m actually doing). I’m not convinced it’s more than a gimmick, though it’s admittedly a cool one. The app The app is also disappointing. When I first received my review unit, I eagerly installed the app and got ready to set up the device, only to find it wouldn’t pair via Bluetooth. I tried again and again — even on a different phone, in case it just wasn’t playing nice with my Honor 10. Well that’s disappointing… Checking reviews on the Play Store, it turned out I wasn’t the only person experiencing this issue. Seeing as you need to sync the device to set it up, I actually worried I wasn’t going to be able to write this post! Luckily, when looking at the IndieGoGo page for the original Matrix PowerWatch (which uses the same app), I spotted a comment that mentioned their watch would sync only one in every 10 attempts. I decided to persevere and eventually it paired. Since then, syncing has been a little more reliable (though not perfect). The biggest issue otherwise is that the app is incredibly bare bones, providing barely any more information than the watch face itself. Interaction is also awkward, to the point where scrolling doesn’t quite work for inputting numbers meaning I was forced to press “+” 30 times to enter my age (it starts at 0) and 77 times to enter my weight! This is pretty much it… The app is also incredibly power hungry. I’ve had to charge my phone significantly more frequently while using it. Hopefully this will receive some attention going forward. The design Although the concept is cool, the design of the device isn’t quite so space age. I like to think a watch powered by bioenergy is the kind of thing Tony Stark would wear. Sadly, I just can’t see him — or anyone who loves premium tech — being particularly eager to flaunt this design. Although the concept is cool, the design of the device is also not quite so space age. It’s not hideous or anything. It’s just not as svelte or curved as a lot of the competition. Nor is it as refined and elegant as an old-school analogue watch. The detailing falls flat, and it’s just kind of chunky. It’s also really large, at 13.5mm thick with a 50mm diameter and 60-70g weight (I don’t know why this number varies so much either!). The size doesn’t just make the watch a little ostentatious, it also makes it somewhat awkward and occasionally uncomfortable. It gets sweaty, catches on things, and it’s difficult to sleep with. Its included strap is rubber too, which tends to get hot and adds to the uninspiring look. You could of course change that should you so wish however. The Matrix PowerWatch: thick! On the plus side, this watch is also waterproof up to (down to?) an awesome 200 meters — making it the most water-resistant smartwatch on the market, according to its manufacturer. It uses aircraft-grade aluminum, making it very light and durable. It certainly looks rugged. The display itself is black and white and the UI is predominantly text based. It’s fairly visible in direct sunlight, but there’s no backlighting. You can turn on a small light in one corner for reading the time in the dark though. In future, Matrix Industries says it will bring a range of customizable watch faces to the gadgets. Taking a quick look at reviews and comments for the first Matrix PowerWatch though, the company already appears a few months behind schedule in this regard. As mentioned, interaction is handled by two buttons and a dial. These are rather fiddly to use. It’s not always intuitive navigating through menus or starting and stopping the timer, among other things. I’m not really sure what the point of the dial is. It can scroll through some settings, but so can the mode button. Hopefully, this is an indication of upcoming features? Closing comments I can’t help but feel I’ve been a bit harsh on the Matrix PowerWatch X. The device is no doubt a laudable attempt at doing something different in the smartwatch space. I always have a soft spot for crowdfunded projects. The watch is also pretty expensive. The Matrix PowerWatch X goes for $279, which is about the same as the Garmin Vivoactive 3 or the Fitbit Ionic, both of which offer considerably more options and features. Even the notification-less, 50m resistant original Matrix PowerWatch is $199. Right now, it doesn’t really deliver on its potential. It has a lot of bugs and growing pains, and it’s not particularly good looking or comfortable. It feels more like a tech demo than a finished product. Even if you’re a wealthy early adopter who just wants to show off with something unique, this hardly looks like the kind of thing you’d actually want to wear out and use as the conversation piece. You probably shouldn’t buy this watch, but I hope Matrix Industries keeps making more. If the company can make the watch slimmer, improve its design, fix its software, and iron out the bugs, it could have something really special. There’s a lot of potential here, but the Matrix PowerWatch X just doesn’t nail the execution. , via Android Authority http://bit.ly/2MHPqKL

U.S. Weightlifting Has Its New Olympic Hope. He Just Needs to Get Through High School.
Joseph McCray
"What’s next?"
That’s the question that, in part, led to the resurgence of the U.S. men’s Olympic weightlifting team.
When Harrison Maurus was 11, his sport was gymnastics—and right around then, gymnastics stopped being interesting. The time commitment was too much, and he “was never gonna go very far” in the sport, he says—so he decided to put his power and explosiveness toward other endeavors.
Even at 11, though, Maurus hit the weight room with his coach, Kevin Simons, to stay in shape. As luck would have it, Simons also coached in the weightlifting spectrum, so he recruited Maurus for the sport. “I was really strong and he recognized that and he just kept going with it,” says Maurus, now a 17-year-old high school senior.
At first, the two set their attention to powerlifting—squat, bench press, and deadlift, the sport of brute strength. But during Maurus’ lone year in powerlifting, he veni, vidi, vici’d the sport.
[RELATED1]
"I quit gymnastics at age 11 and trained in powerlifting for a whole year," Maurus says. “I started powerlifting at the age of 12, and I started Olympic weightlifting at the age of 13... Then, after 2012, we kind of hit the top end of what I was going to do with powerlifting—I had already won Nationals for my age division in powerlifting—so it was kind of like, what's next? Then we moved into Olympic weightlifting, and I've been doing that now for close to five or six years.”
Same stuff, different day
An average day for Maurus, he says, consists of waking up at 7 a.m. and arriving at Auburn Riverside High School by 8. He’s in classes until 2:35 p.m., and then at 3:30 heads to the gym, where he'll work out until “six-ish”. Then the 17-year-old (he’ll turn 18 in February) comes home to eat dinner, do his homework, and get some shuteye.
“I’ve been repeating that five out of seven days every week for the past year,” he admits. “I take Sundays off; that's just because he doesn't open the gym. If he opened the gym, I'd be there on Sunday.”
During the summer, though, training becomes a beast. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, he’ll do two-a-days—working out in both the mornings and afternoons to get in a little extra technique work and break up some of the strength movements, he says.
“I really enjoy two-a-days,” Maurus explains. “I feel like it gives me something to do in the summer so I don't get bored too quickly. I feel like I make the most progress when I do two-a-days.”
Ho-hum.
Lifting his interest
Maurus says his favorite part of Olympic weightlifting is trying to push himself. He also enjoys how easy it is to measure your progress: “I mean, it's literally just adding weight to your lifts.”
[RELATED2]
Another allure of the sport is the travel: He's been everywhere from Peru (twice), El Salvador, Malaysia, Thailand, and Mexico, with trips to Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and the Dominican Republic lined up in the coming year.
“Malaysia was my first Asian trip, and it was really fun,” Maurus confesses. “That was for Youth Worlds, [where] I took silver, so it was a really good competition for me. They had some awesome food. It was a great team. My mom, my sister, my coach, and my coach's wife all went, so it made for a really cool trip for all of us.”
The trips also help solidify the bonds with his teammates. Traveling to foreign countries—sometimes for as long as two weeks at a time—helps everyone get to know one another, and forges enduring friendships.
“I've gotten to know a lot of [my teammates] real well, and, yeah, we do stay up-to-date and everything,” he says. “I mean, we see what each other is doing on Instagram, we talk to each other, figure out where people are. It's cool. I've made a lot of good friends.”
He adds that he doesn’t have a favorite lifter, per se, but enjoys taking in the technique of good lifters everywhere to sharpen his own skill set.
“I definitely like watching the technique of a lot of really good lifters that we have here in the U.S.,” Maurus says. “Of course, also watching the international lifters’, like the Chinese, beautiful technique. There's no one person. It's fun to see how people move differently throughout the world.”
Break a leg…or some records
Perhaps no trip was more satisfying for Maurus than a recent domestic trek down I-5. In late November/early December, Team USA showed up for the 2017 IWF World Championships in Anaheim, CA—and didn’t leave before making its mark. More specifically, the team ended a pair of medal droughts for the red, white, and blue, while Maurus crushed one of his own records.
The lifting phenom earned bronze medals in the men’s 77kg weight class via a 425-lb clean and jerk, and a 767-lb total. The last male lifter to accomplish that was Wes Barnett, who earned a silver and bronze in the 108kg weight class in 1997. The last woman to pull off such an achievement was in 2005, when Cheryl Hayworth won two bronzes.
“That was actually amazing,” Maurus said of his accomplishment. “It didn't really sink in my mind that, holy cow, I had just broken my own record that I had set a couple months ago and became the first American male [to medal] in 20 years.
“On my second clean and jerk, my leg seized up and I had to pass my third lift, so I was in the back getting worked on by doctors trying to get my leg to let go. I actually didn't know I had won until the head coach came over and gave me a hug and told me I had won third place, so it was kind of shocking to me. It was cool. It was really cool.”
[RELATED3]
Coach Simons definitely concurs, as he’s previously told M&F: “I could not be more proud of the kid. I’ve been working with him since he was a little boy, since he was 10 years old. To see him become one of the greatest American weightlifters of all time is surreal. It’s amazing.”
So now what’s next?
Maurus says he wants to go to college—immediately, with no year off after high school, although he says he'll most likely take a break from school in 2020 if he makes the Olympic team. Two schools, the University of Washington and Hawaii Pacific University, have already accepted him.
Both colleges have their appeal: “U-Dub” is close to his Auburn, WA, home, while the latter has a doctor of osteology program, in which Maurus would love to enroll and make his post-lifting career.
“Seeing how my chiropractor, physical therapist, and all the team doctors on Team USA work with athletes and help them, I want to return the favor to the next generation of weightlifters or schools or athletes in general,” Maurus says. “I mean, you're only gonna be able to be a weightlifter for so long. But being a doctor, that'll hold you through your life.”
Bringing the first medal—two, actually—in 20 years to the U.S. men’s weightlifting team? Check. Having a good head on his shoulders and an incredible work ethic? Check. Showing modesty, tact, and decorum along the way? Check.
Giving back to future athletes by returning the favor of helping people? That’s what’s next.

Quinn’s book: Weightlifting Movement Assessment & Optimization: Mobility & Stability for the Snatch and Clean & Jerk
In May 2017, Quinn released a book to help weightlifters assess their olympic weightlifting movements, breaking down lifts phase-by-phase.
2:45
Quinn’s background
Quinn is a physical therapist by trade. He sees patients for physical therapy (PT) work, trains clients in strength and conditioning, and competes in olympic weightlifting himself.
In high school and college, he played football and did olympic weightlifting. After college, he became a strength and conditioning coach, but quickly realized he wanted to offer more than written training programs and teaching lifts. Today, he’s living his dream as a PT, with his office attached to a barbell gym.
Quinn’s college football days
4:10
Load and stress is what causes adaptation
Quinn previously spent two hours at the gym warming up for workouts with passive mobility exercises, but after a while realized he wasn’t really getting anywhere. Nothing was changing. When Quinn delved into the science, he discovered all those lower level PT exercises weren’t benefiting long-term training and health. Instead, he found evidence that load and stress is what causes body adaptation.
7:40
Practice movement patterns in warmups
Instead of foam rolling and static stretches as a warmup, Quinn suggests doing the movement you’re going to train in different variations. While passive exercises like foam rolling only help prime tissues on a local level vs. the whole body, warmups help increase blood flow and core temperature. When you practice the patterns you plan to train, you make the most of your warmup.
For example, if you’re going to squat, just start squatting. The first five squats will feel grindy and won’t be in full range of motion, but after enough reps, your body will naturally find itself in better positions.
“The first squat always feels like dog shit. ALWAYS.” — Quinn Henoch
11:12
Corrective exercises have a wide variation
Corrective exercises come in all shapes and sizes. Whether someone is injured or needs to gain confidence in a movement, Quinn takes a top-down approach. The idea is to practice the closest variation of the movement under load.
For example, for the snatch, the first tier corrective exercise is snatch balance. The next tier is an overhead squat, etc. Quinn won’t make someone do dead bug if they have some pain in their shoulder. Instead, he would use dead bug for someone who has issues just moving.

28:35
Mobilize actively, with intention, under load
Current research shows low level mobility exercises (i.e. foam rolling or static stretches) are only good for short term changes in perception and range of motion. Short-term changes means your mobility is going to bounce back into the default unwanted position.
To make long lasting changes on tissues, tendons, and tolerance, the body needs volume and intensity on top of range of motion. Only then will it adapt to the new position and movement.
To make the most of your mobility, do a combination of isometric, eccentric, and tempo work exercises with the range of motion that is comfortable for you at the time. Perform the movements slow and under load, but not too much load. And always control the movements.

34:43
Figure out your symptoms’ trigger
When one of your body parts is firing up, try to figure out the symptoms’ trigger. Triggers can be induced by volume, intensity, range of motion, or a combination.
For example, volume trigger could be induced after a certain amount of reps. If you squat 5 sets of 8 reps, and towards the 4th or 5th set something is fired up (i.e. your knee or ankle), you might have a volume issue. On the other hand, if a certain number on the bar gets your body part fired up, then it might be an intensity issue.
“Best mitigating factor for reducing injury risk is monitoring overall workload.” — Quinn Henoch
41:25
Teaching principles to experiment yourself
Quinn’s goal is to empower athletes so they can control their own situations. His philosophy is to take an individual approach, even at bigger groups, by teaching athletes principles on how to experiment themselves. Check out his new book on how to assess yourself.
44:00
Don’t be shy to mobilize with decent load
Quinn likes to mobilize with heavy loads, so the body gets adapted to the range of motion in the position while getting strong. Similarly, Stan “Rhino” Efferding (Episode #281) likes to do the same.
“Calf raises could be your best mobility drill.” — Quinn Henoch
