Hey, not new to your blog but wanted to check in and give you some insight on Gray's current character in 100yq. I know you don't follow the sequel because the very idea of Gruvia disgusts you (like it does to all of us) but hey! What's wrong in having some fun?
You wouldn't believe the number of Gruvia fans (yeah you heard me right, GRUVIA fans) have expressed their disappointment in how Mashima is literally using Gray as a ship bait at this point (which was the sole purpose of creating Juvia's character in the first place) and he is a slightly better version of Juvia now (might as well call him Juvia's male equivalent) who has somewhat of his individuality left.
Okay enough now hear me out, in the present arc, literally every single character got their shining moments. Erza got to solo Misaki (she can do enchantments and heavenly body magic like Jellal now), Wendy defeat Haku (she's acknowledged to be a high enchantress by Irene), Lucy won against Kyria (another stardress mix, she can do gottfried singlehandedly and Laxus acknowledged her strength), Laxus defeated Kirin (we got an interesting flashback of the thunder dragon Elexion and revelation of the second generation lacrimas, Laxus literally consumed thider dragon king's soul and earned a powerup). Though I'm disappointed in Gajeel's contribution, even he got to fight God Serena for the time being.
Ask me : what did Gray do?
Gray fought a fodder from the next set of enemies, who can do literally nothing except transmutation. What's that : body swap between your opponent and his lover! (Poorly executed attempt at including Juvia in every Gray moment somehow) The amount of times this very same concept has been used to ship bait the Gruvians is insane. Meredy? Invel? Now another fodder named Sai.
He hasn't done anything exceptional since the Wood God Dragon Arc. His only feat till now is soloing the Raijinshuu. That happened years ago. His fight against God seed, Hakune and Sai have been so underwhelming.
The real Gray fans have been deprived of a great character, the only outcome of Gruvia is more unnecessary Juvia screentime.
Update on 100yq and My Thoughts
Hi there! Thank you for sticking with me for all this time!
Thank you for checking in and giving me some 100yq insight! I haven't read it yet still even though I have the gr///via masterlist given to me by that one great Anon, because yes, you're right, the very idea of gr///via disgusts me, and it disheartens me from even touching the sequel unfortunately... so it really helps to hear what's going on. (I love the Anti network we've got going on here, guys!)
Anyway, onto your ask!
Wow, Mashima is getting so bad at writing gr///via that even the gr///vians are getting upset?? That's honestly hilarious and appalling at the same time. Like now do you understand why Antis, especially those of us who love old Gray Fullbuster, hate gr///via, Pros??? What have we been saying from the beginning?? Gr///via has been poorly written from the get-go, but I guess at least finally some Pros might be seeing the error of their ways. But what’s appalling is that the level gr///via has been pushed to must be astronomical if the Pros are discontent with it…
You're completely right, Anon, gr///via in its essence was always going to turn Gray into mere ship-bait. If you think about it, gr///via is literally built around wearing down Gray's consent and his defenses and self-autonomy and self-agency until he's so broken down that he's fooled into thinking juvia is right for him. Through that process, of course he was going to turn into a character that's completely not who he was before. Not character growth, character dismantling and destruction.
Strong, cool-headed, friend-oriented Gray would never fall for a girl who was never his friend because from the beginning she’s been romantically obsessed with him, who has continuously ignored his wishes and embarrasses him at every turn and who pushes herself onto him whenever they're together. He doesn't have an inflated ego so this wouldn't flatter him at all. So, what does Mashima have to do? Knock him down a hundred pegs until he's on juvia's rock bottom level of sniveling, namby-pamby, wimpy, self-respect-lacking, love-obsessed-and-oriented nothingness that's the opposite of the whole moral of the anime in the first place, which is friendship.
Ugh I'm so disgusted. Anyways, sorry for the tangent, back onto what you were saying.
I'm so sad that we're at the point where Gray has turned into only a "slightly better version of juvia" where he has ONLY "somewhat of his individuality left". Why does it take getting to this point that Pros are finally seeing how gr///via is killing Gray's character and individuality??
Okay, I hear you, Anon, the other characters all did some bad-ass things...
And then Gray...
Uh... wow... Gray gets to fight fodder...
So, if I'm understanding you correctly, Sai can't do anything but turn lovers into each other??? So.... all Sai did was bodyswap gr///via and turn Gray into juvia???? EW???? I'm getting goosebumps, that's so icky to me, gross!!
That's ironically a perfect metaphor of what's happening to Gray right now. He's literally being turned into the male counterpart for juvia just so this toxic, disgusting ship works somehow, and then in the story he literally turns into her. Wow. Bravo, Mashima, you perfectly metaphorically portrayed what nonsense you're dishing out.
I am so sad that Gray has been reduced to fighting fodder, and that his bigger fights are just bland and uninspiring. And seriously, it's been years since he did something exceptional?? And Mashima doesn't see the problem with that?? He's effectively killed one of his most beloved characters just for the sake of the imposing, threatening gr///via fandom, and from what you're telling me, even they aren't happy with the way Gray is turning out. It's so telling that even the butt-load of wholly unnecessary screentime their favorite girl juvia is getting isn't enough to appease the Pros.
Real Gray fans (Anti-gr///vians), and Pro-gr///vians are all unhappy.
So, tell me, Mashima, just who is it that you're pleasing now?
Really, the only answer is juvia herself, and she's the least deserving of happiness out of anyone involved.

Trendy Fashion From The Grammy Awards 2023
Sam Smith and his color-coordinated entourage, which included Unholy partner Kim Petras, drew attention ahead of the main event when they put on a fiery musical performance. Taylor Swift glistened as she arrived in a sequined blue gown that showed off her midriff.
The singer received four nominations for this year’s event, including song of the year for the enlarged, re-recorded version of All Too Well. However, she was unable to win. Harry Styles came in beautifully patterned dungarees with his inkwork on display.
Brandi Carlile was nominated for numerous awards, including album and record of the year. After winning an early award for best rock performance, the suited and booted singer-songwriter reflected on how she had achieved success by defying her mother’s advice.
Bebe Rexha was nominated for best dance/electronic recording for her collaboration with David Guetta; I’m Good (Blue). Despite this, she walked the red carpet in her pink, plunging gown. It was all white for Shaggy, who was nominated for best reggae album for Compton.
Best Moments Of The Grammy Awards 2023
In Los Angeles’ Crypto.com arena, Bad Bunny recreated a Puerto Rican carnival. His mashup of El Apagón and Después De La Playa featured pyrotechnics, scores of dancers, and cabezudos, the “bighead” puppets that march through San Juan every January.
Un Verano Sin Ti, which topped the U.S. charts for 13 weeks last year, earned the best Música Urbana album award. Brandi Carlile performed Americana, while Lizzo performed Special with a gospel twist. She eventually won the record of the year for About Damn Time.
Olivia Newton-John, Irene Cara, David Crosby, and Jeff Beck received heartfelt tributes in the in-memoriam section. Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, and Mick Fleetwood sang Christine McVie’s Songbird, while Kacey Musgraves paid tribute to Loretta Lynn, the “Queen of Country.”
Quavo sang Without You, a song he created after Takeoff’s passing. Celebrating 50 years of hip-hop, almost two dozen rap icons took the stage. Grandmaster Flash’s Flash Was On The Beat, an almost 12-minute medley of hip-best hop hits, opened the concert.
Run-DMC performed Rock The Bells, Public Enemy rapper Yo, Missy Elliot performed Lose Control, and Busta Rhymes performed his high-velocity rhyme from Chris Brown’s Look At Me Now. The Recording Academy gathered hip hop’s biggest names to celebrate 50 years.
The medley featured Blackthought, Run D.M.C., L.L. Cool J, A Tribe Called Quest, D.J. Jazzy Jeff, Salt-n-Pepa, Flava Flav, Ice-T, Queen Latifah, Method Man, Big Boi, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Nelly, GloRilla, and Lil Uzi Vert. Each musician performed fragments of their most memorable songs.
Queen Latifah’s 1993 hit “U.N.I.T.Y”, Nelly’s “Hot in Here,” and Missy Elliot’s “Get Ur Freak On” were among the most memorable performances. The segment was criticized for excluding Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj, Eve, Trina, and Megan Thee Stallion.
Run-DMC played Rock The Bells, Public Enemy delivered a verse of Yo, Bum Rush The Show, Missy Elliot swept in for Lose Control, and Busta Rhymes gave a show-stopping performance of his high-velocity rap from Chris Brown’s Look At Me Now.
Bidding A Goodbye Words

The Spirit of SPARKLE By Constance Cherise
Tumblr media
A precursor to the Broadway musical Dreamgirls, SPARKLE (‘76), a film about three young Black sisters in late-1950s Harlem with dreams of stardom, is commonly believed to be loosely based on the story of The Supremes (rest easy Mary Wilson). Like THE WIZ (‘78), initially, SPARKLE did not do well in the box office, and like THE WIZ, it also became a classic Black film garnering fan loyalty. If the sizzling 1992 rendition of “Giving Him Something He Can Feel” by En Vogue wasn’t proof enough of its endurance, the 2012 remake of SPARKLE (tragically Whitney Houston's final film) should be sufficient evidence.
Directed by Sam O’Steen, with music by ‘70s producer extraordinaire Curtis Mayfield, SPARKLE shares notable ties to classic film. One of its screenwriters, Joel Schumacher, whose extensive portfolio includes the film adaptation of THE WIZ, noted Billy Wilder as his favorite director. In a 2010 interview, Schumacher recalled a mischievous youth, watching black-and-white films in a theater near his home. “I was watching the Golden Era of Hollywood...watching Elia Kazan and John Ford and Alfred Hitchcock, I could go on…” Schumacher stated. Although Robert Stigwood is not credited on screen as the producer, the film was made under the banner of his production company. The all-around entertainment impresario, called by Newsweek “the Ziegfeld of the disco age,” also released the everlasting SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (‘77), GREASE (‘78) and SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (‘78).
Tumblr media
Another Classic Hollywood tie is Lonette McKee, who portrays Sister. McKee had her breakout role in 1983 as the first mixed-race woman to portray Julie, starring alongside Donald O’Connor, in her Tony-nominated performance of the Broadway musical Showboat. The character was previously depicted by white actresses, most famously Ava Gardner, who won the role over her best friend Lena Horne in MGM’s 1951 film. The decision was made by the studio due to Horne’s race, which she maintained cut her deeply. If you haven’t seen Horne’s rendition of “Can't Help Lovin’ Dat Man,” in TILL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY (1946), watch it and you will understand Horne’s justified frustration.
Although SPARKLE is a story about three sisters—Sparkle, Sister and Delores—and their short-lived rise to fame, the catalyst of the tension in the story truly begins with Sister (McKee). Well aware of her unique beauty, she becomes involved with Satin (Tony King), whose focused attention towards her further inflates her ego cause her to not see him for who he truly is: an abuser and gangster. He openly engages Sister with another woman at his side, and Sister witnesses him punch this woman in the stomach and pull the fur coat from her back. Yet Sister’s reaction seems to be more of excited intrigue. In that moment of silent acceptance, she seals her fate. Not only is it apparent this cannot possibly end well, the resulting repercussions on her and those who truly love her soon come into grave focus.
Tumblr media
In the scene where Satin is introduced to Effie (Tony Award-winning Mary Alice), the mother of the three hopeful sisters, and sits beside her, Effie’s expressionless glare takes over, all her years of wisdom instantaneously coming to the surface. Everything Satin is flashes in Effie’s eyes. Instinctively, Effie knows – and Satin knows she knows – that Sister is headed in the wrong direction. When Effie arrives backstage to congratulate her daughters after a successful show, she straight-talks Sister, cradling her face, looking into her eyes almost as a lover. With precise articulation, she tries to ensure her daughter comprehends her words of wisdom.
“I’ve lived in Harlem all my life. I do know a rat when I see one.”
Considering Effie’s domestic employment, when her white employer notices her sullen mood and states that she hopes Effie considers her “enough of a friend to confide in,” there are multiple takeaways. We can conclude that Effie’s employer is wholly oblivious to her authentic identity and her role as a maid, and we get a snapshot of Effie’s sacrifice for her daughters. Powerfully poignant, Alice's performance embodies a silent strength present in many of her performances. As she quietly endures the deconstruction of her family, you have to wonder about the substantial weight she holds within.
A youthful Phillip Michael Thomas is as gorgeous and equally as captivating in SPARKLE as he was during his days of palm trees, Miami pastels and pink flamingos, portraying the character Ricardo Tubbs in the TV series Miami Vice. Although the film’s main characters are all beautiful women, you simply cannot take your eyes away from him; when Thomas is in the scene, he steals it every time.
Tumblr media
Most famous for her role as Coco in the film FAME (’80), which caused a measurable rise in attendance at performing arts schools internationally, Irene Cara’s career began at the tender age of 3. She was only 13 years old when she played Sparkle, but her performance is so spectacular, she competently rivals her elder co-stars. In a role that could easily escalate to excessiveness, Cara underplays. Her scene with Thomas, after a funeral, is a perfect example. Years in the entertainment industry expertly result in a stellar performance.
With a time-capsule quality much like other Stigwood films, SPARKLE seems like two separate yet cohesive stories – a tragedy that is unexpectedly a comforting diversion. In the end, the abiding spirit of SPARKLE satisfies.

🎮 Alyn x Leroy 🍷Mira x Henry 🍮Tyler x Irene 🌹 Earwyn x Emma 🐶 Rae x Taiyo (Dream eater jokingly) 💫Eva x Kumo, Take your pick out of any of these
🎮 Alyn x Leroy
“Gah ! Take this ! “
Alyn said as she draped herself over Leroy so his car would fall to the side because he couldn’t see the screen. Leroy let out a gasp as he leaned the other way but Alyn is still moving to obscure his vision.
“Alynnnn !! “
Leroy half shout as he tried to move away as Alyn giggled as her car was nearing the finish line. But suddenly she felt as if she’s been lifted up as she shrieked. Leroy was lifting her with his left arm while his right is controlling the controller and threw a bomb at Alyn’s car.
“You - You lizard !!”
Alyn half shout (affectionately)half giggle as all she could see now is their living room.
“I won !! “
Leroy shouted as he placed Alyn down on the couch and grinned boyishly at her while Alyn pouts.
“You cheated !”
“And you did too ! “
“Fine ! Another round !! “
And another round of Mario Kart began.
🍷Mira x Henry
“Hey, “
Henry said as he rubbed Mira’s exposed shoulder. The night was cold but they had each other. On top of the tall building. Mira was sitting with her lag down on the side of the building as Henry sat down next to her.
“Happy anniversary, “
Mira said softly as she smiled her genuine smile at Henry. As Henry pulled out a wine bottle and two beautiful wine glasses.
“Are you serious ? Up here ? “
Mira said jokingly as Henry laughed softly while he poured down the dark red liquid into the glass them handed to her. Mira took it as they clink glasses then mouthed a quiet ‘I love you’. Then took a sip and enjoy their quiet date. Before Mira broke the silence.
“If I get drunk and fell down, I swear I’m going to haunt your handsome ass. “
As they laughed once again.
🍮Tyler x Irene
The theme park was crowded as the couple sat on a bench near the icecream shop. As suddenly Irene stood up and walked into the shop without telling Tyler.
Later she exited with a cone of icecream as she smiled at him.
“Here we go ! Our icy treat for now !”
Irene said cheerfully as Tyler smiled and hold up the icecream cone. Then Irene pulled out two spoons. Before putting two of them on both side of the icecream. As she dug up a small amount of icecream and some topping then put it in front of Tyler’s mouth.
“Say ahh ! “
🌹 Earwyn x Emma
Emma waited for her boyfriend to return as it’s been an hour late for their anniversary. And she’s getting pretty tired so she’s going to go to bed and celebrate tomorrow.
But as she’s walking up the stairs, she heard the sound of keys clanking from the other side of the door and the sound of the door unlocking. She walked down the stair as she’s been greeted with the sight of Earwyn with 4-5 bouquets of various colors flowers. She couldn’t help but a small laugh that escaped her lips.
“What’re all those ? “
“Sorry, I forgot our anniversary, here’s my apology gift. “
“It’s okay, here you are now, right ? “
“— and there’s more in the car - “
“There’s more ?! “
💫Eva x Kumo
“You’re beautiful, “
“That’s embarrassing.. “
Kumo couldn’t help but blush at his lover’s cheesy statement, but Eva didn’t stop as she giggled lightly. Before lying down on the green grass once more, but pulled Kumo down with her as she lied sideways, facing him.
“You know how lucky I’m to have you ?”
Eva stated quietly as she cupped Kumo’s face with tenderness. Kumo averted his eye contacts then Eva leaned in and kiss him softly on his lips. Then Kumo rolled over her as he kissed her with more intensity then pulled away and hugged her close to his heart.
As they fell asleep under the blanket of stars.
this time I didn’t do RaeTaiyo because I did it pretty much, hope you don’t mind me !

Hello! I wanted to ask, could you reccommend any fics with really innocent bottom Sherlock being nervous before his first time with John? And John of course being understanding and gentle with him. Thank you!
Hi Nonny!!
Check out my bottomlock recs, they’re 80% this request :) AND I’m using this opportunity to update that list, it’s been a couple years, LOL <3 Here’s some newer fics I’ve read!
BOTTOMLOCK Pt. 2
See Also:
Bottomlock Pt. 1 (April 2019)
Toplock (Mar 2020)
Erotic Beyond Belief by bloodsoakedleather (E, 748 w., 1 Ch. || Autofellatio, Masturbation, PWP, Anal Fingering, Shameless Smut, Establish Relationship) – John watches as Sherlock demonstrates a particular talent. Part 1 of Johnlock Porny Ficlets
My First, My Only, and My Forever by vintagelilacs (E, 6,220 w., 1 Ch. || Post-ASiB, Virgin Sherlock, Pining Sherlock, Sherlock’s Bum, John’s Scar, Sherlock POV, Body Worship, Fingering, Bottomlock, Promise of Forever / Proposals, Misunderstanding, First Kiss/Time, Loss of Virginity, Virginity Kink, Seduction) – Sherlock narrowed his eyes. He was missing a vital piece of data, he was sure. John had been looking at him oddly ever since they left Buckingham Palace, and the ensuing incident with Irene Adler had only exacerbated his erratic behaviour. What was it? Why would he care that Sherlock was a virgin? There was nothing reminiscent of mockery or pity in his gaze. And then it hit him. John Watson was aroused.
An Interpretation of Viewing Habits by akitsuko (E, 6,653 w., 1 Ch. || Porn Watching, Masturbation, Anal, Friends to Lovers, First Kiss / Time, Declarations of Love, Jealous Sherlock, Fantasizing, John in Denial / Internalized Homophobia, Bottomlock, Pining Idiots, Sherlock Has No Boundaries, Cockblocking Sherlock) – John watches porn. It's a perfectly normal thing to do.If every video he watches happens to feature actors with remarkable physical similarities to his flatmate, well, that's no one's business but his own. Or: John is in denial, until his infatuation with Sherlock is impossible to deny anymore.
To be loved by Strange_johnlock (E, 12,436 w., 8 Ch. || Post S3, Established Relationship, First Person POV Sherlock, Pet Names, Soft Sherlock, Mild ADHD, Protective John, Captain Watson, Body Appreciation, Bottomlock, Rough Sex, Travelling for Holidays, Introspection, Sherlock Loves John So Much It Hurts) – John is so deeply integrated into the work, both as my conductor of light, and as a great shot with a vicious right hook who tackles men -and women- no matter their size all in my defense. He protects me with all he can without question, and this loyalty is surely more than I deserve. Or: Sherlock is counting his blessings.
Kintsugi by distantstarlight (E, 14,772 w., 1 Ch. || Post S4, Emotional Hurt / Comfort, Regret / Remorse, Loneliness, Separation, Drug Use, Healing, Protective John, Sad Sherlock, Dev. Rel., Complicated Relationships, Love, Angst With Happy Ending, Sherlock is Called Freak, John’s Penance, Voyeurism, Doctor/Caretaker John, Guilty John, Detox, Fingering, Love Confessions, Cuddling, Slight Non-Con Turns Enthusiastic Consent, Virgin Sherlock) – Sherlock Holmes becomes estranged from the man he had once considered his best friend after John lets him down horribly in public. It seems that the world's only consulting detective will be on his own once again...or will he?
The shape of the world around us by Salambo06 (E, 15,058 w., 5 Ch. || Lumberjack John / Botanist Sherlock, Different First Meeting, John Has a Beard, Light Case Fic, Flirting, First Kiss / Time, Masturbation, Love at First Sight, Horny Sherlock, John’s Bum, Bottomlock, Tenderness, Virgin Sherlock, Pining Sherlock, Shy Sherlock, Sexual Fantasies) – Looking through the bush, Sherlock felt his heartbeat quicken as a man passed in front of him. Sherlock frowned, trying to get a closer look despite the bush. The man was wearing a red plaid shirt rolled up to his elbows, and Sherlock couldn't take his eyes off the man’s arms. Muscular, slightly tanned with golden hairs along his forearms. For some unknown reason, Sherlock found himself imagining them around his waist, holding him tightly. Closing his eyes for the briefest second, Sherlock shook his head. Opening his eyes and looking back to where the man stood only a moment prior, he found himself alone. Great, now his only chance to find his way back to town was gone. “Why are you wearing a suit?”
The Invocation of Saint Margaret by Ewebie (E, 15,831 w., 1 Ch. || POV John,  Crossing Timelines, Light Angst, Fluff, Series 3 John / Series 1 Sherlock, The Matchbox, Mushy Romance, First Time, Bisexual John, Pining John, Bottomlock, Love Confessions, Sensuality, Emotional Love Making, Snippets of Time) – When Sherlock Holmes opens the matchbox from The Sign of Three and John finds himself years in the past, back to that first dinner at Angelo's with a much younger Sherlock Holmes. Is he dreaming?
A Silver Sixpence by _doodle (NC-17, 16,400 w., 2 Ch. || LJ Fic || For a Case / Case Fic, Fake Relationship, Humour, Romance, Marriage Proposal, Awkward Idiots, Cuddling, Touching, Kissing, Love Confessions, Bed Sharing, Friends to Lovers, Fake Until It’s Not, Schmoop and Fluff, Bottomlock) – “John, we need to get married. It’s for a case, not any romantic notions on my part pertaining to our partnership,” Sherlock said, with brutal honesty, and without even looking up.
Traitor's Gate by roane (E, 17,714 w., 6 Ch. || Post-TRF, Case Fic, Mystery, Bets and Wagers, Undercover for a Case, BAMF John, Scientist Sherlock, Teasing, Established Relationship, Military Base, Sexting/Texting, Military/Uniform Kink, Frottage, Dirty Sex, Anal, Bottomlock) – John and Sherlock go undercover at a top secret government lab to find out who is selling research. John is back in uniform and Sherlock is back in a laboratory, but they have to pose as strangers. Sherlock thinks he'll have an easy time of it, but John has his doubts. It's up to them to find out who is responsible for putting a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands, and try to keep their hands off each other at the same time.
Out of the Woods by SilentAuror (E, 20,471 w., 1 Ch. || Post S4, Romance, Slow Burn, Flirting, Drunk Sex, Practical Jokes, POV Sherlock, Bottomlock, Possessive John, Pining Sherlock, Frustrated Wanking, Frottage, Hand Jobs, Blow Jobs, First Kiss/Time, Virgin Sherlock, Love Confessions, Soft Sherlock, Dancing, Bum Appreciation, Hanging out with the Yard) – Sherlock is fairly certain that John has taken to flirting with him of late, but can't be entirely certain of it. At least, not until a case takes them into a forest, along with Lestrade's team and something happens that will change everything about their lives...
Insanity in the Middle by DotyTakeThisDown (E, 28,010 w., 8 Ch. || Equestrian Sports AU || Alternate First Meeting, POV John, Pining John, Bottomlock, Clueless Sherlock, First Kiss/Time, Passionate Kisses, Hand Holding, Caught Making Out, Bed Sharing, Spooning, Blow Job) – John is a world-class eventing rider with a gold medal and several four-star wins to his credit, but he's never won at Rolex. Sherlock is an up-and-coming rider taking the sport by storm.
The Case of the Vanishing Pants by SwissMiss (E, 44,025 w., 6 Ch. || Five and Ones, Post-TRF, Case Fic, UST, Homophobia, Friends to Lovers, Pining John, Showering Together, Couple for a Case, Sherlock’s Bum, Fantasies, Jealous Sherlock) – Five times John and Sherlock lost their pants in the course of a case.
Anchor Point by trickybonmot (E, 49,856 w., 80 Ch. || Truman Show AU || Psychological Drama, Suspense, Slow Burn, Dark Characters / Fic, Alternating First/Third Person, Protective John, Anxious/Worried Sherlock, Tender Moments, Love Confessions, Hand/Blow Jobs, Cuddling, Jealous John, First Kiss/Time) – The world tunes in nightly for Sherlock, the ultimate in reality TV: Sherlock Holmes, a real person with a legendary name, unknowingly lives out his life in a staged setting contrived by his brother. Things get complicated when a retired army doctor joins the show to play the part of Sherlock's closest friend. This fic borrows its concept from the 1998 film, the Truman Show. However, you don't need to have any knowledge of the movie to enjoy this story.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse by SilentAuror (E, 50,635 w., 1 Ch. || Post-S4/S4 Divergence, Case Fic, For a Case / Reverse Fake-Relationship, Conferences, Marriage Equality, Travelling / New York, Pride, Homophobia, Bottomlock, Marriage Proposal, John POV, Sexuality, Love Confessions, Emotional Love Making, Public Hand Jobs, Blow Jobs, Passionate Kissing, Needy/Clingy Sherlock, Virgin Sherlock, Touching / Hand Holding, Bed Sharing, Little Spoon Sherlock, Intense Orgasms) – John and Sherlock go to New York to attend a conference run by the National Defence of Traditional Marriage Coalition in order to investigate the potential bombing of the annual Manhattan Pride parade. As the conference unfolds, John finds himself repulsed by the toxic ideology being presented, which becomes relevent to his own unacknowledged issues and his friendship with Sherlock...
Perdition's Flames by i_ship_an_armada (E, 63,435 w., 21 Ch. || Treklock AU, Est. Rel, Genetic Engineering, Angst & Fluff, BAMF!John) – Sherlock would do anything to save him. Risk anything. Give anything. His money, his life. His soul. What he does, though, is change both of their destinies forever. Genetic re-engineering is the only option left. It turns out researchers underestimated the life expectancy and potential abilities of genetically re-engineered subjects. The British government and what would eventually become the United Federation of Planets, however, had not. Part 1 of PF Universe
Not Broken, Just Bent by Schmiezi (E, 87,585 w., 43 Ch. || Pining, Love Confessions, Rape/Sexual Assault, Torture, Hurt/Comfort, Heavy Angst, Villain!Mary, Suicidal Ideations, Main Character Death, Sherlock First Person POV, Parentlock, Sherlock’s Mind Palace, Grief/Mourning, Emotional Love Making, Possessiveness, Depression, PTSD, Kidnapping, Virgin Sherlock, Eventual Happy Ending) – "For a second, I allow myself to remember teaching John how to waltz. There is a special room in my mind palace for it. A big one, with a proper parquet dance floor. For a second, I go there. I remember holding him, closer than the World Dance Council asks for, excusing it with the fact that we are training for a wedding, not for a competition. For a second, I feel his hand on mine again, smell his sweat, hear the song we used. For a second, I allow myself to love him deeply. For a second, only a second, that love reflects on my face." Fix-it for S3, starting at the end of TSoT. Evil Mary.

But seriously, why do I never hear about Irene Iddesleigh around the Internet? It’s practically The Room of late Victorian literature! I have to tell y'all about this book. See here:
Got published because Amanda McKittrick Ros’s (the author’s) doting husband paid for it, but not for the “I want to have more control over publication/don’t need the traditional system” reasons—no, she simply thought her writing was too amazing for that
Mark Twain called it “one of the greatest unintentionally humorous novels of our time”
C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien would deadass have reading parties where whoever could go the longest without laughing won
“Hope is like a shimmering oaken ship on the turbulent seas of discord, fear, and impertinence, cast by the hollow winds of despair. The sun’s rays of goodness and victory tumble down from the heavens, but lo! The clouds of uncertainty beat them back as though"—ALMOST EVERY PARAGRAPH IS LIKE THIS. Metaphors and similes and alliterations and melodrama is the entire book.
a humorist from that era named Barry Pain (lmao) called it the book of the century. At first he found it funny, but then apparently he “shrank before it in tears and terror”
When Ros read what Pain said, she called him a “clay crab of corruption” and then claimed he did it because he was secretly in love with her (my gosh. her mind)
And for all that, it’s not even just the outrageously
🌌 purple prose 🌌
that’s the whole issue here. The plot is basically just
Act I: I’m going to willingly marry a man I hate, and I hate him because he isn’t my secret lover >:(
Act II: I hate him even more each day but we have a kid, oh and I’m having an emotional affair with my secret lover
Act III: husband discovers affair and locked me in a “cursed” room for a year (Charlotte Brontë is literally shaking) but I escape to America with my lover. Huh? I have a child? Never heard of him
Act IV: I somehow legally marry my lover in America and will live there the next fifteen years, but whoops! Suddenly he’s super bad with money and also a drunk and abuser and hits me and then dies by suicide
Act V: I go back to England. Nobody recognizes me even though I’m, like, 35, but they all hate my guts and love my dead husband. My son got the whole story from his dad and hates me the most. I’m sad. I walk to a cottage my lover used to use and literally drop dead. The end
So if you’re looking for something ridiculous to read and be entertained by, I can heartily recommend Irene Iddesleigh. It’s about 100 pages, so it isn’t a slog (somehow)—I read it in an afternoon. You can read it storybook style here or find it over at Project Gutenberg. It’s what Tolkien and Lewis would want.
In case you aren’t convinced yet, though, allow me to show you.

Until now he was inclined to be prejudiced against the snares and allurements of women, but he strongly resolved to try gradually and abandon every unkind thought harboured in his mind against them, fearing lest all his conjured imaginations were both unjust and selfish; and determined to drown them for ever in the clashing gulf of fate, felt a prouder and happier mortal than before.
But time would solve the problem and heal the wound which penetrated so deeply his bosom. Yea, a short time he hoped would bring his creeping fever of endearment under the binding stay of appointed authority, and heal its weakening effects with the sacred salve of truth.

Chapter IV: When on the eve of glory, whilst brooding over the prospects of a bright and happy future, whilst meditating upon the risky right of justice, there we remain, wanderers on the cloudy surface of mental woe, disappointment and danger, inhabitants of the grim sphere of anticipated imagery, partakers of the poisonous dregs of concocted injustice. Yet such is life.
Chapter VIII: A word of warning tends to great advantage when issued reverently from the lips of the estimable. It serves to allay the danger pending on reticence, and substantiates in a measure the confidence which has hitherto existed between the parties concerned. Again, a judicious advice, extended to the stubborn and self-willed, proves futile, and incurs the further malice and fiery indignation of the regardless, the reckless, and the uncharitable.
Chapter XIII: It is astounding to view the smallest article through a magnifying glass; how large and lustrous an atom of silver appears; how fat and fair the withered finger seems; how monstrously mighty an orange; how immeasurably great the football of youth; but these are as nought when the naked eye beholds the boulder of barred strength—a mountain of mystery.
Every chapter has a paragraph like this. I won’t spoil them for you.
Such is life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“My dearest and much beloved, I assure you your remarks have astounded me not a little! Your words sting like a wasp, though, I am quite convinced, unintentionally. You are well aware that within a short period I will be marked  out publicly as mistress of Dunfern mansion—an honour revered in every respect by me; an honour to which I at one time dare never aspire; an honour coveted by many much more worthy than I, whose parentage is as yet bathed in the ocean of oblivious ostentation, until some future day, when I trust it shall stand out boldly upon the brink of disclosure to dry its saturated form and watery wear with the heat of equality. You are about to place me in a position which cannot fail to wring from jealousy and covetousness their flaming torch of abuse. Yes, Sir John, on me you have not ceased to lavish every available treasure and token of your unbounded love. You have been  to me not only a loyal admirer, but a thoroughly upright and estimable example of life’s purest treasures. You have resolved to place me by your side as your equal, whilst wealth in boundless store is thirsting for your touch. You have elevated my unknown position to such a pitch as to defy taunt or jeer, and at any time if I may have, seemingly, ignored your advances, it was purely want of thought, and not through any underhand motive or scheme whatever.
“I assure you your allusion to my verbal answer last night is very pronounced, and may be overlooked on the ground of pure disappointment. Our time of singleness  is now short, and begging your forgiveness for my seeming neglect or indifference, I hope the tide, which until now has flown so gently, may not be stayed on the eve of entering the harbour of harmony, peace, and love.”
At the commencement of Irene’s answer of lavishing praises and flimsy apologies, her affianced moved to the opposite corner of the rustic building to scan the features of her he wholly worshipped and reluctantly doubted. Every sentence the able and beautiful girl uttered caused Sir John to shift his apparently uncomfortable person nearer and nearer, watching at the same time minutely the divine picture  of innocence, until at last, when her reply was ended, he found himself, altogether unconsciously, clasping her to his bosom, whilst the ruby rims which so recently proclaimed accusations and innocence met with unearthly sweetness, chasing every fault over the hills of doubt, until hidden in the hollow of immediate hate.
Ros is so close to being self-aware at the start of the last paragraph here, but then it’s lost in the same circular language found throughout. Ah, well.

Too late pt.2 | Irene
Genre: angst, fluff
Wordcount: 1,371
Tumblr media
The rest of the evening was spent in comfortable chatter. Irene tried her best to sell her story about being fine and only being a little upset about something in class. You seemed to buy it though. Your best friend telling you that she accepted your girlfriend felt like being on cloud nine. Finally, everything was alright again.
At least for the night.
But the peace was short-lived. There were no new problems between Irene and you. If any, the opposite. It felt like old times and you enjoyed every second you could spend with her. A little too much maybe. Wendy and you, however, fought almost daily. You had worked fine as friends, but as lovers, your opposites seemed to clash. You could never agree on anything and you found yourself fleeing from your fights by spending more time with Irene again, who didn’t seem to mind. Although she nipped every conversation that you started about your relationship in the bud.
Irene had no interest at all in being your counselor, but after a while, you had to talk about a specific topic with her. You didn’t want to force her to do something she so clearly despised, but this time you had to be selfish. You were desperate. You were lounging on her bed with the credits of a Kdrama rolling on screen, when you couldn’t hold back one question that had been bugging you anymore.
“Do you think I should break up with her?”
You asked Irene, in need for your best friend to help you get out of this mess. But Irene avoided your gaze. You didn’t understand why Irene was so reluctant to talk about Wendy, but you could see that she was internally torn.
“Don’t put me in this situation.”
She suddenly said barely above a whisper, letting her head hang in defeat. You reached out to her in concern, lifting her chin up with your hand.
“What do you mean? What situation?”
You asked confused, starting to feel panicked when you saw tears welling inside Irene’s eyes.
“Can’t you see?”
Her desperate voice broke, breaking your heart at the sound.
“No, I don’t understand.”
You stammered, ready to do anything to make Irene feel better.
“I can’t answer your question, because my answer would be too selfish.”
Irene now looked into your eyes and you stroked away her tears.
“What are you talking about? You are the least selfish person, I’ve ever met.”
Irene laid her cheek into your hand, searching for comfort, too tired to fight back her feelings anymore.
“But this time I would be. Because...”
She took a last glance at you, debating whether she should risk losing you forever. But her heart won the fight this time.
“Because I’m in love with you, Y/N.”
The words hung in the air like a heavy veil and you stared at Irene blankly.
“But you rejected me...”
You thought out loud, thinking back to the heartbreak Irene had brought over you, making your heart ache again.
“I lied.”
Irene sobbed, burying her face into your hands.
“You deserve better. I thought I could fight back my feelings, but I can’t. Not anymore, Y/N.”
When she looked into your eyes again, you could see the desperation in them. She needed you to redeem her. In whatever way. Either by breaking her heart or giving her yours in return since you had hers for a long time now.
But you couldn’t make that decision now. Your head was spinning. It was like your memories of the past years with Irene played in your mind at the same time. You remembered how you met her. How you first fell in love with her and how you fell out of it again. But did that really ever happen? Or had Wendy always been a distraction to the fact that you had only wanted Irene all this time?
Your mind was racing, and you needed it to stop. Without saying a word, you stormed out the room, leaving a crying Irene behind that hugged her own legs in need for comfort, feeling her heart breaking into two.
Irene spent the next days hiding inside her room. She didn’t feel like interacting with other people and although she normally cared a whole lot about her classes, she couldn’t even bring herself to do that. She heard a knocking on her door and when she opened it, her eyes became wide, because instead of the pizza guy who she was expecting it was you standing in front of it. Both of you just stared at each other before Irene moved to the side so you could pass her. You immediately made your way to her bed, plopping down on it like you usually did.
“I think we should talk.”
You broke the silence while Irene was still standing at the door in an unaltered position. She shook her head at your words, closing the door and sitting on the chair in front of you.
“I broke up with Wendy.”
You stated bluntly and Irene didn’t know how to react. Partly, she did feel sorry, because she actually liked Wendy and she also didn’t want to get her hopes up that you broke up with Wendy to be with her instead. On the other side, she couldn’t stop her heartrate to pick up, only at the thought of having a chance. Her mouth opened and closed in search for the right words and you looked at her expectantly.
“Y/N...”
Your name was all that could leave her mouth and you sighted.
“After all, you still don’t talk to me?”
You said bitterly, stroking your hair out your face in frustration.
“I’m sorry.”
Irene said, feeling your eyes on her with a searching look for more answers.
“I’m sorry for not being honest. But I’m also sorry for your break up. I know that Wendy meant something to you and although I was heartbroken to see you two together, it was always more important to me to see you happy.”
She said honestly this time, deciding that the lies between the two of you had actually never helped anyone.
Your eyes were fixed on her with a firm gaze and she started to shift uncomfortably in her seat. She knew how much she had hurt you. The guilt had been with her ever since she broke your heart.
“I think you have a lot of making up to do.”
You suddenly spoke up, making her flinch a bit.
“I know, I’ll do anything you want, Y/N.”
Irene answered, ready to do whatever it took if you only kept her in your life.
“Then take me out on a date.”
You stated confidently, looking straight into her eyes that widened in shock for the second time that day.
“What?”
She asked in disbelief and you sighted in response.
“We have wasted enough time, don’t you think? And the lies weren’t really helpful either. Although I wanted to hate you, I couldn’t. You have always been the only one for me. So why don’t we cut this game and do what we both have been wanting to do all this time?”
Irene was at a loss for words, but not because she didn’t know whether she liked your proposition, but because she had dreamt about this moment for so long that she wasn’t sure if it was for real this time.
“You have to answer me, Irene. I can’t wait forever. Don’t be too late this time again.”
You gave the ultimatum, not wanting to go through all the heartbreak again.
“Y/N?”
Irene asked and you hummed in response.
“Do you want to go on a date with me?”
The words she had been craving to ask you finally left her mouth and you tried hard to seem like you had to think about your answer. But you couldn’t fight back the smile that was drawn to your lips.
“I would love nothing more.”
You said, reaching out to take Irene’s hand, who took yours to her lips to press a kiss to your knuckles.
“Rather late than never, huh?”
She joked, making you roll your eyes in response while you pulled her into your arms savoring your heartbeats finally beating as one.

The long-awaited sixth and final installment of the Queen’s Thief series! I asked for this book for my birthday back in October (said it was the one thing I truly wanted) and then I read it at breakneck pace in the two or three days that followed. I waited until now to write about it (tragically lame) and, in the meantime, loaned my copy to my sister…my writing about this awesome book leaves something to be desired. I’ll probably re-read the whole thing sometime this year.
As in books 3-5 of this series, The Return of the Thief shows us Eugenides through the eyes of someone else, although this book follows, more closely than books 4 and 5, the events that have Eugenides at their heart (like the lynchpin that he is, peace-keeper on the Lesser Peninsula, but also the centroid of the mechanism, controlling the events around him as these weave intricate patterns). Our young narrator is Pheris, of the house Erondites, heir of the most troublesome of Attolia’s barons. But no love is lost between Pheris and his family, as the young boy’s physical disabilities make him an embarrassment to them. Like Eugenides himself, Pheris leans into the things that make him underestimated by others, and, in doing so, he observes a lot, but is suspected of nothing. When he’s sent to the palace by his grandfather, to serve like many young heirs as an attendant to the king, his physical (and assumed mental) disabilities are intended to be seen as a direct insult to Eugenides.
Pheris’s role as king’s attendant places him in close proximity to Eugenides, allowing a narration of plot from eyes that are nearby, but that do not see everything. This narrative viewpoint relies, as so much of this series as a whole does, on the incorrect assumptions that other characters make about Eugenides—often to those very characters’ downfalls. The reader is, of course, no longer fooled; we know Eugenides’s omniscience. And, early in this book, I worried this trope of dramatic irony was used and worn. I couldn’t imagine a better foil character for Eugenides than Costis, who is his straightforwardness and courageous foolhardiness, is the perfect complement to Gen. When Gen jokingly says “jump,” Costis doesn’t even stop to ask “how far?” Their dynamic is beautiful and, often, comedic. Attolia as counter-point to Eugenides provides another unparalleled character dynamic, vastly different than the one between wily Gen and earnest Costis, as Attolia’s set of strategic moves—more serious and calculated, more “textbook” than her husband’s—complement Eugenides’s at turn-after-turn. The irony, for Attolia and Eugendies, exists between. We, as the readers, are somehow left out of their cosmic inside joke, only glimpsing it here and there, while we laugh repeatedly at Costis’s expense.
Where would Pheris land on this spectrum? Was there another counter-point to Eugenides that could show him more fully than these other characters had already done? I was pleased to realize that the Eugenides that Pheris drew forth was the one twisted with insecurities, the one fighting a real battle between himself and his god who holds him up, but who also—as Gen knows so well—will one day let him fall. In placing a character near to Eugenides whom Eugenides does not need to perform for, someone who he must see himself in, we see Gen at his most vulnerable. There is more about Gen that the reader needs to see and to understand. While we, too, once underestimated Gen (along with Attolia, along with Costis), Turner reverses this on us and shows us that we also must not overestimate him. Here is Gen the man, the mortal—in the clutches of a wild destiny, but still fallible and human.
Pheris realizes these things in his own way and on his own time. His loyalty to Eugenides isn’t easily won, which is true, too, of Attolia, of Costis. But it takes a different thing for each of these characters to turn themselves to pivot around Eugenides, to believe in him, to see him for who he truly is.
For Attolia, this took mutual love, a love that is still being spun out and examined in this final novel, entirely within Eugenides’s insecurities. Eugenides, we see here, questions Attolia’s love for him repeatedly, not out of doubt of her, but out of doubt of his god. Does his wife love him, against her will, because this is what he asked for? This is the place where the novel ends, in the poignant Epilogue that answers Gen’s questions about Irene’s love. I understood, from this final book, that Eugenides never questions his love for Irene. When he is sickened by their history, by his loss of his hand at hers, this is not fear nor doubt of his own love, which I think might be the first interpretation a reader, or observer, would have of his actions. Instead, Gen wonders and worries over how she can love him. He did not doubt her hatred at a point in time in their pasts. How can he reconcile those memories with her love now, if not through the intervention of the god that he sees make the impossible possible in his life? Attolia, somehow, understands Gen and is changed deeply, irrevocably by her understanding. Attolia seems like someone who, without the well-fit complement to herself who is Gen, might never have loved or considered a partnership, contented in herself as she was. She is never lessened by Gen, to the contrary. She tries repeatedly to build him up, to force his hand, to yield power to him, to make him openly show himself as the king she knows him to be. The strength of her conviction in him is always stronger that his own. She does not question herself, either; firm and objective where Eugenides flows, malleable, changeable, and moody.
We do see Eugenides try out certain kinds of power, and face Attolia’s correction, in this sixth book. One of the most startling parts of the novel was Eugenides’s attempts to convince Attolia to stay behind from the battlefront when she is pregnant (because, why, I wondered, did he even try), but this shows he has but little of his normal strategic restraint when it comes to his feelings about his wife. I adored the scene where he nearly kills Attolia’s lame suitor with a knife thrown just moments too late, which, like his attempts to keep Attolia from riding into battle, seems theatrical in nature, like a play staged for the benefit of their onlooking kingdom (how telling that we see the festival plays that satirize Eugenides as the one-handed king, and, whole the king behaves like he’s offended, but we all know he loves a good drama). The truest, realest moments of Gen and Irene are hidden from the eyes of everyone. Pheris, only by chance, gets the smallest glimpse: the two with couches pushed together, asleep in each others’ arms after Eugenides altercation Attolia’s suitor. Attolia did not bend to Eugenides, but she is reshaped by him. She, too, although she did not know it and did not long for it, was lonely for love, as we’re shown in the Epilogue where we return to the scene where Gen first saw her dancing alone in the gardens. It was not the will of the god that changed her, but only the slightest nudge of the circumstances—so that a boy saw a girl, who was lonely, but also strong, and rebuilt his life around trying to be with her. Eugenides weaves the strings of fate, yes, but how can we possibly fault him the end goal? Becoming king is the irksome side effect of being married to the woman he’s always wanted.
For Costis to orbit around Eugenides took the dismantling of his settled, square worldview. Like Attolia, he is changed. Like Attolia, this change is organic. We’ve never seen Eugenides browbeat someone into submission. Even his enemies are brought low through their own failures. This doesn’t, of course, mean that Eugenides takes his victories with grace; he wouldn’t be Gen without that horrible self-satisfaction, stubbornness, and studied laziness. Costis valued a certain kind of strength. He needed to see Eugenides was capable of this kind of strength, and in seeing this—at the end of book 3—he truly understood the choice Eugenides makes to prioritize other types of strength. That other men’s brand of pride is worth nothing. That saving face is worth nothing. That traditional masculinity is worth nothing. That winning is worth very, very little. Especially, when, on the other side of the scale is the safety of someone you love. Is yourself that need to live with forever. Is information that could make the difference, all the difference in the world.
We see Costis who has been reshaped by Eugenides in book 5 of the series. He is a more cautious speaker and thinker, willing to plan many steps ahead, willing to hide more of himself. But he is still righteous, still blundering, still a country boy, and an excellent counterpoint to refined Kamet who is very ready to underestimate someone with these characteristics, giving Costis is own type of Eugenides energy. I left book 5 feeling somewhat dissatisfied, longing for more emotional unpacking between Costis and Kamet. I was sad that these two were only side characters in book 6, but we got tidbits and hints at the blossoming love between them (I mean, who moves to live alone in the country with someone unless they are rustic lovers?!) Through Relius and Teleus’s characters (two stoic figures who have a complex emotional undercurrent to their relationship) we get another look at queer love in the world of the Queen’s Thief. There’s also a subtle nod to the support, care, and affinity among a queer community in Attolia when Kamet dances with Relius, while Costis dances with his sister, at the celebration at the very end of the book. Pheris also bonds closely with Relius and I wondered if Pheris’s character is perhaps asexual (he’s adamant that he doesn’t think he’ll ever fall in love). These characters’ identities are complex, and never simplified, and there seems to be a resistance on the author’s part to spelling out their sexualities and romantic entanglements exactly. But this is not unlike the primary heterosexual relationship at the heart of the series: the most intimate moments take place “off stage,” and we, the readers, see mostly the waves of impact made by their love and commitment and by their nuanced understandings of each other.
For Pheris to see Eugenides and to be changed by him takes Eugenides’s vulnerability, in combination with Pheris seeing and understanding the hand of his god on the king. Pheris lives in his own circle of misery (afraid of the treatment of his family even within the palace, a legitimate fear we know after Juridius threatens him), one that Eugenides reaches into in a way that might surprise someone who did not know Gen’s brand of kingship well. When Pheris falls ill and is feverish, he has fragmented memories of the king at his side, caring for him in the middle of the night. Pheris also see Eugenides sick and debilitated repeatedly. In one of the most intense sections of the book, Pheris sees Eugenides fully operating under the hand of his god when the king is captured by the Medes when the two camps are staked out on the plains of battle. Pheris follows the king into the Medes’s camp receiving little resistance from others. He hides in the king’s place as the king goes on a mysterious killing spree, removing the leadership of their enemies. As the two escape the camp, Pheris sees in Eugenides a harsh energy that is inhuman, as inhuman as the lightness he exhibits in a game of chase—where he jumps from balconies and leaps for hanging chandeliers—throughout his own palace.
Early on during his time in the palace, Pheris too sees a god appear before Eugenides and guide him back onto the path planned for him: in this case, that path is to keep Pheris at his side and not send him back home, as Eugenides wished to do after learning of Pheris passing information (albeit against his will) to Juridius. Eugenides, Pheris sees, is often upset and bitter about this intervention of the gods, especially as the gods’ give instructions he cannot wish to follow, yet he understands, utterly, the power of the gods. From this, Pheris does not learn to obey Eugenides above all else. He still frees his traitorous uncle Sejanus from right under Eugenides’s nose and helps him escape from the united Lesser Peninsula army’s camp. This is an instinctual choice that pays off, as Sejanus later warns the gathered Attolian-Eddisian-Sounissian army about a pass where a smaller section of the Mede Army is trying to invade the Lesser Peninsula and catch the defending army in a pincher move. With Sejanus’s warning, a small band of Attolians and Eddisians, led by Eugenides, cut the Medes off at the pass, nearly with disastrous consequences. The ways in which Pheris shows his commitment to Eugenides, such as blindly following him into the Mede camp with no concern for himself, but still operating independently from him, particularly in his interactions with Sejanus, set up Pheris as a complex figure in Eugenides’s world, one ultimately guided by his own inner compass and worldview, in much the way Eugenides himself is.
This book epically culminates the series, drawing the plot lines of Attolia, Eddis, and Sounis together in one novel, as the countries unite under Eugenides—to whom the other nations swear fidelity—to drive the Mede Empire back and maintain their freedom and independence. With Attolia’s successful pregnancy after a few miscarriages, and the birth of an heir who can continue the unified governance of the Lesser Peninsula, we end this novel on a note of pure celebration, both human and god-blessed, as the characters take to the rooftops to dance, granted Eugenides’s smooth confidence as he dances with a god who has not let him fall.

notes. panthers and wolves never get along, that much is a given.
genre. soulmate!au, enemies to lovers!au, hybrid!au, rival gangs!au, drama, romance, slow burn, angst, hurt/comfort
warnings. depictions of violence, swearing, eventual smut
you don't meet jeon jungkook on good terms.
how could you, when he was the prized prince of the wolf pack? he knows exactly who you are even though neither of you are shifted, your scent that apparent. he's fought enough panthers by now to know one a mile away. every chance of enjoying your time at this club flies out the window the second you acknowledge each other, but you credit him for not being as reckless as wolves are stereotyped. only yesterday did a member of your pack and his go head to head downtown, narrowly escaping fatal injuries. this was neither the time nor place for another fight and you both knew it.
irene scowls at the huddle of wolves over her martini before turning away, nose upturned. "surprised the dogs aren’t marking this place as theirs."
"give it time," seokjin hands you your drink. "shall we go somewhere else? i really don't have it in me to stare down a wolf all night."
"speak for yourself," you huff, forcing jungkook to follow your eyes when you pass across the room. wolves and panthers never got on no matter the faction or colony, that much was a given. but namjoon's pack was at the top of your shit list for what his ancestors did to seokjin's. although your instincts as a solitary predator won out most times, when it came to jin it was different. he was the closest thing you had to a big brother and so his enemies were yours.
irene steadies a hand on your shoulder until you meet her eyes. "hey. you know jeon's always been a bratty little prick. and hani's already got her tail up from last night, so let's just go."
"next time," seokjin slings an arm around your neck to physically swerve you to the exit. had he left you to challenge jungkook a few minutes longer, you surely would have bared your teeth.

The Omen au final part
N/A: Here we go. The last part, btw, I know Doom has a son but is funny how sometimes even Marvel forgets so...for this au I have an idea. Doom has a son who is bastard and wanted to be the next in line for the throne but Mike got this first.
@djinmer4 @dannybagpipesarecalling @bamfoftheundead @everykurt
Victor II is the son of Doom with one of his ladies-let´s put nicely as no one has any doubt what the said the lady was truly up to with her liaison with Doom- thanks to his "right of the lord" and managed to convince the child, Lucinda, from Roma´s origins, was elected as she even devises a fake marriage with Steven to get Doom´s attention and mission accomplished. Yet, Doom has no real interest in the baby.
Victor II was considered a bastard and with Doom not being interested in heirs it seems Victor II could have a chance in be the next ruler. And this was even increased as Doom himself provide for his tutelage and Victor II was so sure he was the next heir...but, now, all his mother´s plans and all his "father" (as Doom refuses to be his father. Steven takes the mantle) are for nothing.
"Michael Darkholme is the ruler?!" Victor II asked angrily spatting words at the news his mother is revelling and Steven is showing the same sentiment at the situation. All this was for nothing?
"Victor, the battle is not over!" his mother tries to sway him to the light. Giving hope that he can be the king of this nation, yet, Victor II is not having in his heart to believe.
"Mother, he never officializes me, never adopted me. What´s the point if he pays me for my education in fancy schools and colleges if in the end...I´m nothing for him. Mother, Mother what I do now?"
And all the mother cna do is hug her child and promise her-with all her heart as she´s crying sharing the pain of her only son- things will be better. The battle is not over.
"You were the one in line for his throne...if something were to happen..." She speaks loudly to herself and has a cunning gleam in her eyes. "If this strange blue boy were to vanish...my son would be back to the line of the throne"
"But...Doom ...may pick others to be in my rightful place"
"No, Doom is an arrogant man. If one adopted child won´t work for him. He won´t adopt ever again."
And the family plots together to secure their place in the throne. Victor II is happy to have such a mother at his side. Latveria will be ruler by someone with power and Victor II knows this person can be only referred to him and only him.
What´s stronger than a sorcerer?
_________________________________________________________________________________________
Terry Pryde notices the change of Doom-well, she never liked the man in the first place but Terry is nothing if a very perceptive person-and now Doom looks more depressed then ever. Right now, the man is looking at one of his paintings and Terry is unluckily to be there.
To be fair. She thought to herself, he never once told me if I truly can walk around here or not and never once stop me...if I´m that much of a bore for him...please God, let continue to be so.
Sadly, Doom did notice her-he stops his painting. A woman with curly raven hair and an angelical expression - and instead of being angry or something similar to the man, king, sorcerer or whatever- invites Terry to see his painting.
"Is my mother! Isn´t she amazing? I lost her when I was a small child ...and now I´ll get her back, isn´t that amazing?"
"Magic, I suppose" is what Terry speaks. "then why are you so depressed?"
"I...don´t know"
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Mephisto honours his deals if nothing else-and Mephisto loves to play with the part of "nothing else"- and right now he has Doom´s mother next to him as Doom needs to fill his part of the deal, yet, the mother still believes in the best of her son. Something is amusing in her talk that allows Mephisto to make a small parallel with Raven Darkholme.
"So, you think your son won´t do it? Even if is the cost of your soul?" Mephisto asked amused at the mortal who while trembling in fear at his presence-and funny enough, Raven did tremble in fear at his sight once and never again- spoke with confidence how her son is noble and will never do such act.
Mephisto´s smile grew wilder when Doom shows up with Michael Darkholme next to him-his eyes are visibly showing his reluctance while Michael looks far too concealed to be either afraid of Mephisto or angry-and Mephisto watches in satisfaction as Doom´s mother (her name is long forgotten by Mephisto) looks in horror at her own son.
"NO, please, tell me you won´t do it" she´s begging and Doom ignores her as he speaks directly to Mephisto now. "Here is Michael your son...I brought him here...to hell as you requested. You can dissipate the illusion now" and adds "give my mother back!"
And the woman is now free to go to her son, however, she remains unmoved looking at Doom as if he slapped her face. "Victor, how could you? Made a deal with Mephisto? Sacrifice a child for this ..." and she crosses her arms at this.
Mephisto ignores this scene-a very amusing one if you ask Mephisto about it- and is looking directly at Michael. "You´re blue, just like her. Hello, Michael, I´m your father" silence is the answer as Michael only stares emotionless at his so-called father.
"I want to make a deal with you" and this time Michael decides to speak-never once he looks at Doom who was on his knees begging for his mother to listen to him.
"What can you give me that I won´t already be able to get it?" his answer is a bit colder and malicious-he´s aware of that, but, dealing with a smaller version of Satan Michael believes he´s free to speak a bit more cooler- as now his golden eyes turn crimson. "Father, you really don´t know...just like she never knew me...you thought I would bend down? No, no one will lock me up ever again" and with his own will Michael managed to destroy this part of Hell.
Now, they´re transported in a pocket dimension that Michael controls and Mephisto is impressed as is terrified-even more so as Michael is taking Doom´s soul and slowly changing Mephisto´s form into something less demonic as the mother was drifted away.
"Michael! What you did to my mother?"
"Show her mercy by freeing her from you!"
Mephisto is full human now. Doom is a statue now. Michael is breaking the statue piece by piece and as Mephisto has no power is easy prey to Michael.
"How about a deal, father? I´d not kill you here and there and you´ll never show your face here again or bother my plans..." and he smiles deep down Michael knows Mephisto is a toy from Zaorva and he can´t kill it, but, a bit of terror does not hurt anyway.
Mephisto gulps and curses himself. He thought this would be easier.
Oh my dear Mephisto. HER voice echoes in his mind. Kids can be so rebellious sometimes.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
"So...Mephisto shows up?" Kitty asked fearfully as Michael is giving the story of what truly happened "and you and Doom fought him?" Michael nods solemnly as he looks at the body display on the bed- fake as it can be no one managed to tell this is not a human body and certainly not Doom.
Not even Terry who is distrust of everything related to Michael can see an error in the body or in the story. If magic exists, if demons exist. Why not satan?
Clea is wiping at the loss of her boss-never lover as she couldn´t love him as he wishes- and thought the best way to honour his memory is to assert who will be on the throne- and she chooses now to speak how Michael is the next ruler of Lavteria. "Is what Victor would have wanted"
Michael looks at Kitty to see her reaction-this time there´s no pretence here- and Kitty opens her mouth and closes as she asks one thing only- "Michael, what we do?" Oh, this to Michael knows well enough.
"We shall honour Victor´s wish. I never wanted to be a ruler...but, I can´t leave Latveria without a king even more as is because of me Doom died" is a confession that earns sympathetic glares from everyone thanks to his fake story.
"Oh, Michael" Kitty hug him. Michael hugs her back. He´s not a good person. He knows, but, he hopes to not spiral down to madness and nothingness.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
It has been a year ever since Doom´s death shock the nation and the world- his heroic sacrifice to save a young mutant who he saw as his own son- is a story that people love to share and tell and Rogue is often hearing tales as Michael Darkholme ruling Latveria, well, not officially as Michael has now 16 years old but people seem to expect great things from him.
"Mommy" Rogue speaks to Irene who is listening to the news of Michael as well. "You saw this would happen?"
"Michael will be a good ruler and a good husband...And Rogue, my child, Michael is fine right now"
"Without us?" _________________________________________________________________________________________ "Michael!" Kitty speaks as the azzure boy-now a bit taller since last year- is guiding her hand towards the city and showing the changes his suggestion caused and Kitty is the one impressed and in awe at the sight of what they accomplished. "This is amazing!"
"I know...We did this together"
"Yes, together!" she flashes a gentle smile and her hand still holding his. Michael is so happy to the point he didn´t even notice a pair of eyes looking at his form with anything but contempt.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Mystique manages to infiltrate the house where Victor II is located-as all people present have one thing in their agenda how to take Michael out of the throne- she arrives there to see Victor II, Clea and Scarlet Witch present.
"Are we ready to do this?" Mystique asks as Terry Pryde enters in the room locking eyes to Mystique. "We need to take Michael down...we all have reasons to be here...I just want my son back. What happens with the nation of Latveria does not concern me"
"I just want my daughter to be safer from the Antichrist"

–––– song prompts
here is a list of twenty-five of my favourite songs that i think can turn into exciting stories or plot lines. please tag me if you do any of this, because i would like to see your take on the these songs! there are two ways that you can do this; you can simply base your story off the whole song, or just the snippet of the lyrics that i put in this post. have fun!
edit: i put the jonas brothers’ lyric on sam smith’s leave your lover, but it is now corrected!
while we’re young by jhene aiko
–––– baby, while we’re young, i think we should do something crazy. like say ‘fuck everyone’ and just run away from the daily routine. i’m telling everybody you’re mine and i like it, and i really hope you don’t mind, i can’t fight it. you know i cannot hide it ‘cause i am so excited that i finally decided on you. ‘cause it’s been another perfect day with you, wanna lay with you, spend the night with you, then spend my life with you, alright. baby while we're young we should just have fun; we should just do whatever we want and tell everyone that we fell in love with each other, that we found the one in one another.
like a star by corinne bailey rae
–––– just like a star across my sky, just like an angel off the page, you have appeared to my life, feel like i'll never be the same. just like a song in my heart, just like oil on my hands, oh, i do love you. still, wonder why it is; i don't argue like this with anyone but you. we do it all the time, blowing out my mind.
capital letters by hailee steinfeld
–––– but then there was you, yeah, then there was you, pull me out of the crowd, you were telling the truth. i got something to say now, ‘cause you tell me that there's no way i couldn't go, nothing i couldn't do. i want to get louder, i got to get louder. we 'bout to go up baby, up we go, we 'bout to go up baby, up we go. we're blowing out speakers, our heart a little clearer. we 'bout to go up baby, up we go, we 'bout to go up baby, up we go. for worse or for better, gonna give it to you in capital letters.
all the way by frank sinatra
–––– when somebody loves you, it's no good unless he loves you, all the way. happy to be near you when you need someone to cheer you, all the way. taller than the tallest tree is, that's how it's got to feel. deeper than the deep blue see is, that's how deep it goes, if it's real.
the way you look tonight by frank sinatra
–––– some day, when i'm awfully low, when the world is cold; i will feel a glow just thinking of you and the way you look tonight. yes, you're lovely, with your smile so warm and your cheeks so soft; there is nothing for me but to love you and the way you look tonight.
easy by mac ayres
–––– feeling like i'm runnin' away. never had the chance, chance to say: i can say that loving you is easy, i don't need to prove a single thing. somewhere along the way i guess you got under my skin. i put all my cards out on the table, you ain't ever gonna show your hand. iwould rather hold you close than try to understand.
day 1 by honne
–––– you'll always be my day one, day zero when i was no one. i’m nothing by myself, you and no one else; thankful you're my day one. i got lucky finding you, i won big the day that i came across you. ‘cause when you're with me, i don't feel blue. not a day goes by that i would not redo. everybody wants to love, it's easy when you try hard enough.
so close by jon mclaughlin (enchanted soundtrack)
–––– you're in my arms and all the world is calm; the music playing on for only two. so close together and when i'm with you, so close to feeling alive. so close to reaching that famous happy end. almost believing this one's not pretend. and now you're beside me, and look how far we've come. so far we are, so close.
i like me better by lauv
–––– to be young and in love in new york city. to not know who i am but still know that i'm good long as you're here with me. to be drunk and in love in new york city; midnight into morning coffee, burning through the hours talking. damn, i like me better when i'm with you. i knew from the first time, i'd stay for a long time 'cause i like me better when i'm with you.
paris in the rain by lauv
–––– all i know is, we could go anywhere, we could do anything, girl, whatever the mood we're in. yeah all I know is getting lost late at night, under stars, finding love standing right where we are, your lips, they pull me in the moment; you and i alone and people may be watching, i don't mind 'cause anywhere with you feels right, anywhere with you feels like paris in the rain. we don't need a fancy town or bottles that we can't pronounce, ‘cause anywhere, babe, is like paris in the rain when i'm with you.
tightrope by michelle williams (the greatest showman soundtrack)
–––– some people long for a life that is simple and planned, tied with a ribbon. some people won't sail the sea 'cause they're safer on land to follow what's written; but i'd follow you to the great unknown, off to a world we call our own. hand in my hand and we promised to never let go, we're walking the tightrope; high in the sky, we can see the whole world down below, we're walking the tightrope. never sure, never know how far we could fall. but it's all an adventure that comes with a breathtaking view: walking the tightrope with you.
rewrite the stars by zac efron and zendaya (the greatest showman soundtrack)
–––– you know i want you, it's not a secret i try to hide. i know you want me, so don't keep saying our hands are tied. you claim it's not in the cards; that fate is pulling you miles away and out of reach from me. but you're here in my heart, so who can stop me if I decide that you're my destiny? what if we rewrite the stars? say you were made to be mine. nothing could keep us apart, you'd be the one i was meant to find. it's up to you, and it's up to me, no one can say what we get to be. so why don't we rewrite the stars? maybe the world could be ours tonight.
when you look me in the eyes by jonas brothers
–––– if the heart is always searching, can you ever find a home? i’ve been looking for that someone, i'll never make it on my own. dreams can't take the place of loving you. there's gotta be a million reasons why it's true. when you look me in the eyes and tell me that you love me, everything's alright, when you're right here by my side. when you look me in the eyes, i catch a glimpse of heaven. i find my paradise when you look me in the eyes.
can i be him by james arthur
–––– you walked into the room and now my heart has been stolen. you took me back in time to when i was unbroken. now you're all i want and i knew it from the very first moment, 'cause a light came on when i heard that song and i want you to sing it again. i swear that every word you sing, you wrote them for me, like it was a private show, i know you never saw me. when the lights come on and i'm on my own, will you be there to sing it again? could i be the one you talk about in all your stories. can I be him?
so this is love by irene woods and mike douglas (cinderella soundtrack)
–––– so this is love, so this is love. so this is what makes life divine. i’m all aglow, and now i know, the key to all heaven is mine. my heart has wings and i can fly; i’ll touch every star in the sky. so this is the miracle that i’ve been dreaming of. so this is love.
right here, right now by zac efron and vanessa hudgens (high school musical soundtrack)
–––– can you imagine what would happen if we could have any dream? i’d wish this moment was ours to own it and that it would never leave. then i would thank that star that made our wish come true, ‘cause he knows that where you are is where i should be too. right here, right now, i'm looking at you and my heart loves the view, ‘cause you mean everything. right here, i'll promise you, somehow, that tomorrow can wait for some other day to be. but right now, there’s you and me.
the last time by eric benet
–––– the first time i fell in love was long ago. i didn't know how to give my love at all. the next time i settled for what felt so close; but without romance, you're never gonna fall. after everything i've learned, now it's finally my turn. this is the last time i'll fall, in love.
a love that will last by renee olstead (the princess diaries 2 soundtrack)
–––– i want a little something more. don't want the middle or the one before. i don't desire a complicated past. i want a love that will last. say that you love me, say I'm the one; don't kiss and hug me and then try to run. i don't do drama, my tears don't fall fast. i want a love that will last. i don't want a just a memory, give me forever. don't even think about saying goodbye 'cause i want just one love to be enough and remain in my heart till i die.
1000 years by kt tunstall and bleu (tinker bell and the neverbeast soundtrack)
–––– a thousand years is a long long time, even for a star up in the sky. i could count the tears and the long long nights, but i'd rather just remember how you smile. in a thousand years, i know that our love will still be here. so close your eyes, my dear, knowing that our love is going to last one thousand years.
can’t sleep love by pentatonix
–––– tell me, am i going crazy? tell me have i lost my mind? am i just afraid of loving, or am i not the loving kind? kissing in the moonlight, movies on a late night, getting old. i've been there, done that; supposed to be hot, but it's just cold. somebody wake up my heart, light me up, set fire to my soul. 'cause i can't do it anymore. give me that can’t sleep love. i want that can't sleep love; the kind i dream about all day, the kind that keeps me up all night. give me that can't sleep love.
once upon a dream by mary costa and bill shirley (sleeping beauty soundtrack)
–––– i know you, i walked with you once upon a dream. i know you, the gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam. yet i know it’s true that visions are seldom all they seem, but if i know you, i know what you’ll do. you’ll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream.
leave your lover by sam smith
–––– i don't have much to give, but i don't care for gold. what use is money, when you need someone to hold? don't have direction, i'm just rolling down this road, waiting for you to bring me in from out the cold. you'll never know the endless nights, the rhyming of the rain or how it feels to fall behind and watch you call his name. pack up and leave everything, don't you see what i can bring? can't keep this beating heart at bay. set my midnight sorrow free, i will give you all of me. just leave your lover, leave him for me.
get here by oleta adams
–––– you can reach me by railway, you can reach me by trailway. you can reach me on an airplane, you can reach me with your mind. you can reach me by caravan, cross the desert like an arab man. i don't care how you get here, just get here if you can. you can reach me by sailboat, climb a tree and swing rope to rope. take a sled and slide down the slope, into these arms of mine. you can jump on a speedy colt, cross the border in a blaze of hope. i don't care how you get here, just get here if you can. there are hills and mountains between us; always something to get over. if i had my way, surely you would be closer. i need you closer.

Carole Lombard and William Powell: Friends, Lovers and Co-Stars By Kim Luperi
Tumblr media
Some people might find it hard to work alongside an ex-spouse. Especially in a movie that requires their characters to fall in love. But that’s exactly what Carole Lombard and William Powell did in the highly acclaimed screwball comedy MY MAN GODFREY (‘36). Lombard and Powell’s Oscar-nominated performances rank among their best, but while their characters meet at the start of the picture, the actors themselves had been good friends and lovers for a number of years.
William Powell had spent almost a decade in Hollywood by the early 1930s. The suave actor transitioned into lead roles with the arrival of talkies and early was best known for playing detective Philo Vance in films such as THE CANARY MURDER CASE (‘29). Powell palled around with a close group of male buddies, but his social activities appeared to slow as he approached 40.
The opposite seemed true for outspoken Carole Lombard. In her early 20s at the start of the 1930s, Lombard was razor focused on her career and enjoyed hitting Hollywood hotspots. With over 40 features and shorts under her belt, several for comedy legend Mack Sennett, Lombard was slowly rising up the Hollywood ranks, though she had yet to establish the spirited screen personality she’d grow into.
Tumblr media
Powell and Lombard were two people probably not destined to make each other’s acquaintance without the help of Hollywood; even when they did, some worried his more refined nature would clash with her blunt personality and language. So, when the actors reported to set for MAN OF THE WORLD (‘31), in which Powell plays a blackmailer who targets Lombard and her uncle in Paris, a meeting was arranged before cameras rolled to discuss the picture and test their compatibility. In reality, no one needed to have worried. As recalled in Michelle Morgan’s book Carole Lombard: Twentieth-Century Star, Powell told a reporter: “The day I met Carole I had the same feeling as a 16-year-old boy on his first date. I was embarrassed and fidgety. I worried over whether or not I was making a good impression on her.”
Powell may not have won Lombard over in MAN OF THE WORLD, but their palpable chemistry spilled off-screen. They were “torridly fascinated with each other,” Picture Play reported. Seeking to capitalize on any free publicity their romantic relationship offered, Paramount quickly paired the lovers in LADIES’ MAN (‘31), released about a month after their first picture. Once again, Lombard falls for an unscrupulous Powell, but they don’t end up together at the end.
Tumblr media
That 0-2 streak onscreen paralleled their real-life relationship at that point. “I think I asked Carole to marry me on average of every half hour,” Powell quipped. He initially wanted Lombard to quit acting, but she certainly wasn’t going to give up her career, so she continued to resist his proposals. Once Powell changed his tune and committed to fully supporting Lombard’s endeavors, she agreed to marry him, and they wed on June 26, 1931.
Lombard tried to be the wife Powell wanted and he became her greatest advocate, but their personalities and priorities proved too fundamentally different, and the pair split amicably in July 1933. Lombard explained to Movie Mirror: “We couldn’t make each other happy because there was never complete contact between our minds and our natures… And even though we were devoted to each other and still are, our marriage was doomed to failure.” The fondness the actors openly showed each other led to speculations of reconciliation, but friends they remained, and they eventually moved on to new relationships.
Curiously, the year following their divorce became a key one for the ex-lovers. Powell’s move to MGM and subsequent popular pairing with Myrna Loy in MANHATTAN MELODRAMA (’34) followed by THE THIN MAN (’34) changed his career. Meanwhile, Lombard found true stardom in TWENTIETH CENTURY (’34), a foundation of the screwball comedy genre.
Tumblr media
If TWENTIETH CENTURY verified Lombard’s comedic prowess, two years later another quintessential comedy, MY MAN GODFREY, solidified her as one of screwball’s queens. Amusingly, it was her ex-husband who pitched her for the part of the scatterbrained socialite Irene. Detecting parallels to their own romance in the characters, Powell refused to take the role of forgotten man-turned-butler Godfrey if Lombard didn’t play opposite him. Though the whole experience proved joyous and successful for all involved, it turned out to be the last time Powell and Lombard shared the screen.
The actors retained a fierce friendship off-screen, supporting each other professionally and personally. “I admire him as an actor and a man,” Lombard said of their platonic relationship. “I know that we are vital to each other. We have a mental balance founded on respect.” That they did, and the stars remained close until Lombard’s death in a 1942 plane crash, a tragedy that shocked the film community and particularly devastated Powell.

do u have any fics with John being oblivious? I just ♡ that kind of stuff
Hi Nonny!
Yes! I do have a few that I properly tagged, so I know I’m missing a tonne more, so as always, I’ll give you what I have tagged, and I’ll request my lovelies to suggest their own fics!
CLUELESS / OBLIVIOUS JOHN
Dinner With John by Zang Bluetterfly (T, 505 w., 1 Ch. || Friendship, Romance) – "Let's have dinner, John." Sherlock secretly smiled. Irene had been right: he had rejected her dinner's invitation because he already had John by his side, even though the doctor was still clueless about Sherlock's true feelings for him.
Five Times John Watson Remained Oblivious (K+, 1,154 w., 1 Ch. || Five and Ones, Romance, Friendship, Asexual Sherlock, Queerplatonic Relationship) – ...And one time he didn't. asexual!Sherlock/John.
Untouchable by greengrapegaze (T, 1,368 w., 1 Ch. || Pre-S3, UST/URT, Oblivious John, Lonely Sherlock, Angst with Happy Ending, Emotional Hurt / Comfort, Emotional Sherlock, POV Sherlock, Pining Sherlock) – “He never would. Petty, childish, immature-bitter. Jealous. She had all that he wanted. All he could never have.” Part 1 of Steps to a Bittersweet Symphony
Five Times Sherlock gave John a Pebble and One Time John Returned the Gesture by grimmfairy (NR, 1,895 w., 1 Ch. || Love Confessions, Penguins and Pebbles, Nervous / Pining Sherlock, Oblivious John) – Sherlock isn't good with words, so he decides to tell John his feelings the way penguins do, by bringing him pebbles with different meanings. John catches on.
Love Hurts by Grac3 (T, 2,215 w., 1 Ch. || Magical Realism, Pining Sherlock, One-Sided Pining / URT, Sherlock / John Whump, Angst, Ambiguous Ending) – In a world where someone's physical injuries manifest themselves on the person who is in love with them, John didn't think that there would ever be anyone who was willing to risk falling in love with him - until he got shot on a case, and it didn't hurt. Unrequited Johnlock.
and stand there at the edge of my affection by coloredink (G, 2,683 w., 1 Ch. || Fluff, Letters, Clueless John) – "You've written love letters," Sherlock asserted.
Let Go by thisisforyou (G, 2,743 w., 1 Ch. || Friends to Lovers, First Kiss, Fluff, Anxious / Worried Sherlock) – In the end, separating John's things from Sherlock's in the chaos of their sitting room is like pulling a limpet from a wet rock. Especially when the rock is clinging on for dear life, because Sherlock doesn't want to let go. Short, fluffy h/c Johnlock oneshot.
Until the End of the World by SarahCat1717 (G, 3,049 w., 1 Ch. || Angst, First Kiss, Pining Sherlock, Oblivious John, Drunkenness) – Taking place in Season 3, John listens to an old favourite song and sorts through his memories and feelings about Sherlock and Mary.
The Prize We Sought Is Won by deathfrisbees (E, 4,610 w., 1 Ch. || First Time, Mild D/S, Oral, Military Kink, Bottomlock) – Sherlock's in love, or in lust, or both--unfortunately, the object of his affections is not only his completely oblivious flatmate, but said flatmate would probably run screaming into the hills should he find out. John's been invited to a wedding--unfortunately, the groom used to serve under him back in Afghanistan, and requests that John wear a uniform he's honestly not sure he fits into. Unfortunately for both flatmates, Sherlock's got a military kink the size of Kandahar and John wants to know if he actually can fit into this uniform or if his eyes are deceiving him. It goes from there.
Given In Evidence by verityburns (M, 5,034 w., 19 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || Post-TRF, Angst, Drama, Case Fic, Romance, BAMF!John, Submissive Sherlock, First Kiss, Humour) – Coming back from the dead can be a complicated business. With a new case on the horizon, rebuilding a life is one thing... rebuilding a friendship quite another. For Sherlock and John, things may never be just the same...
Five Times John Noticed But Didn't Really by ScandalousMinds (T, 6,383 w., 1 Ch. || Domestics, Fluff/Angst, Bratty Sherlock, Idiots, Pre-Slash, Jealous Sherlock, Love Confessions) – 5 times John (thought) he noticed something peculiar about his and Sherlock's relationship but really missed the obvious.
In Which "John" Becomes a Synonym for "Help" by asignoftwo (T, 7,391 w., 1 Ch. || Injured John, Worried Sherlock, Fluff) –  After the fall Sherlock returns to Baker Street and is reunited with John. When John is injured on a case Sherlock is faced with the reality that he could lose John again, and it tears him apart.
The Wrong Wagon by DancingGrimm (E, 35,663 w., 20 Ch. || Alternating POV, Molly/  John [Molly pines for John], Public Sex, Casual Sex, Obliviousness, BAMF!John, Awkwardness, Angst & Humour, First Time, Virgin Sherlock, Jealous Sherlock) – Molly sees John in a new light and realises that she may have hitched her horse to the wrong wagon...or something like that. John pines for Sherlock and worries what he will think if he ever finds out. And Sherlock doesn't know what Molly's up to...but he knows he doesn't like it.
Classified(s) by blueink3 (E, 36,153 w., 4 Ch. || Wedding Date AU || Fake Relationship, Jealous, PIning, H/C, Idiots in Love, Happy Ending, Mary is not Nice, Escort Service) – Clara's American father is the ambassador to some such territory that Great Britain probably used to own, but she (and Harry’s undying love for her) is the reason John is getting on a flight at 12:30pm, flying across the second largest ocean in the world, and pretending to be in a perfectly happy, healthy relationship with an undoubtedly perfectly coiffed stranger. See, Clara is not only American (and wealthy to boot), she's also best friends with John’s ex-fiancée. Whom she's placed in the wedding party. As Maid of Honor. And John just happens to be Best Man. Bloody brilliant.
A Promise Made to Be Broken by PlantsAreNeat (E, 37,018 w., 7 Ch. || Fake Relationship, Pining, Slow Burn, RST, Eventual Relationship, POV Sherlock) – A young John makes an ‘if we’re still single at 40, we’ll get together’ pledge to a woman who ends up all wrong for him. She keeps reminding him of the promise, and won’t let go of it. John asks Sherlock to pose as his boyfriend at a family wedding, so as to dash her hopes permanently. Sherlock, who has at last acknowledged his feelings for John, reluctantly agrees despite knowing how painful it will be to ‘have’ John, but not keep him.
Points by lifeonmars (E, 53,791 w., 42 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || HLV Rewrite / Canon Divergence, Married Life, Pregnancy / Baby Watson, Drinking to Cope, Boxing / Fisticuffs, Clueless John, Angst, Minor Medical Drama, Tattoos, Christmas, First Kiss/Time, Eventual Happy Ending, Love Confessions, Doctor John, Sexuality Crisis, Slow Burn, Case Fic, Drugging, Blow/Hand Job, Emotional Love Making, Parenthood, Passage of Time) – What if His Last Vow never happened? This fic picks up a few months after John and Mary's wedding, in an alternate universe where Magnussen doesn't exist, but Mary is still pregnant. Life continues -- just in a different direction. And slowly, Sherlock and John find their way to each other.
