Stefan Frühmorgen aka Urban Junior is from Zurich in Switzerland who started his music career 'beliefe it or not' in the end 90's, in a Boy-group called HNO. but he changed big time and we present you his third long player on Voodoo Rhythm Records, he had a creative brain atom explosion during the Corona period and we had to choose these 14 killer tracks from 35 great songs, the impact of which can hardly be topped, they tell you the stories of dishonour and punishment, sadness and the rudimentary everyday life of a punk rock one man band star The Stupidity of punk and the simplicity of techno combine the despairing soul of the blues. this man has everything in one! Urban Junior is a musical and physical phenomenon. This is higher level electro trash garage boogie disco blues punk, second to none Super unique. the lyrics are a poetic revelation between frenzy, fear, anger, sadness and hope. Urban et Orbi - 14 brand new bangers. Crunchy and creamy, Stompy and Screamy, Stitchy Itchy and Streamy...whatever he does, he kills it!!! p.s. I don't want to set the world on fire....

It was a surprisingly beautiful day in Hell.

The day people on Earth celebrate that Jesus has risen. He died for humanity's sins and when the calendar shows that it's that day, Hell is... in a calm state. Sinners are less violent, the citizens of Cannibal town don't feel hungry and your love, Alastor, uses his phonogram. He never believed, if anything he hated Christianity because of the colonisers of his homeland. He has shared the stories his mother used to tell him. The way she had introduced him to the Voodoo practices of their people.... How Alastor had used them for harm.

A soft golden light fell against the windows of your adobe. Temperature in Hell was surprisingly normal. Not too hot and not too cold either. It could be spring. There could be flowers.

Alastor had been surprisingly emotional since the morning. It's like there was a hidden significance for him in the way the bells of Heaven could subtly be heard, as the angels announced the triumph of their Lord over Death.

He had made you coffee in the morning. He had combed your hair and gifted you a beautiful brooch. His big, doe eyes were on you as you had dinner together. Alastor enjoys cooking. Apron on, humming an old tune and tail picking through his untucked shirt... You would have never thought you'd find love in Hell.

Jambalaya was delicious as always. You were about to ask him why all this? Were you celebrating something?

But the phonogram started playing your favourite.

"I've lost all ambition for worldly acclaim

I just want to be the one you love..."

Alastor took your hand and gracefully walked you to the balcony.

The soft light illuminated his features and you swear you could imagine him as a human. No razor sharp teeth, no antlers or unnatural height. Just an ambitious young man. Still you couldn't help but get lost in his red robs. Long and curled lasses framed his limpid eyes. They're large but soft... The eyes of a child even though they have witnessed such horrors... The eyes of naivety even though Alastor is far from naive.

He started to gently shift from hoove to hoove, his arms wrapping around your waist. You took the hint and wrapped your own around his neck. You spent a moment swaying in the rhythm of the song. You then looked up. He was staring at you intensely. Alastor's eyes were scanning over your features with subtle melancholy, with hidden longing. Eyes, nose, lips and back up.

"Mo linm twa."

The kiss that followed was slow and lasted for many seconds.

And then he was gone. For seven years.

So you want to learn about Louisiana Voodoo…

For better or worse (almost always downright wrong) Louisiana Voodoo and Hoodoo are likely to come up in any depiction of the state of Louisiana. I’ve created a list of works on contemporary and historical Voodoo/Hoodoo for anyone who’d like to learn more about what this tradition is and is not (hint: it developed separately from Haitian Vodou which is its own thing) or would like to depict it in a non-stereotypical way. I’ve listed them in chronological order. Please keep a few things in mind. Almost all sources presented unfortunately have their biases. As ethnographies Hurston’s work no longer represent best practices in Anthropology and has been suspected of embellishment and sensationalism on this topic. Additionally the portrayal is of the religion as it was nearly 100 years ago- all traditions change over time. Likewise Teish is extremely valuable for providing an inside view into the practice but certain views, as on Ancient Egypt, may be offensive now. I have chosen to include the non-academic works by Alvarado and Filan for the research on historical Voodoo they did with regards to the Federal Writer’s Project that is not readily accessible, HOWEVER, this is NOT a guide to teach you to practice this closed tradition, and again some of the opinions are suspect- DO NOT use sage, which is part of Native practice and destroys local environments. I do not support every view expressed but think even when wrong these sources present something to be learned about the way we treat culture

*Start with Osbey, the shortest of the works. To compare Louisiana Voodoo with other traditions see the chapter on Haitian Vodou in Creole Religions of the Caribbean by Olmos and Paravinsi-Gebert. Additionally many songs and chants were originally in Louisiana Creole (different from the Louisiana French dialect), which is now severely endangered. You can study the language in Ti Liv Kreyol by Guillery-Chatman et. Al.
