Literally can't pay my rent until I get paid for September, which hasn't happened yet. Today is Friday, and Monday is the last day of the month. I'm so tired of being poor.
#i still cringe to call myself 'poor' bc i have my own apartment and can afford groceries#and even fun stuff like museums and cafe visits and public transport sometimes#but the reality of the matter is that after i pay off my student loans every month#i do not have enough money left to pay the following month's rent#and that's the way it's been my whole life#all my groceries and museum visits and coffee come from those few hundred euros left over#my whole life i've been choosing between 'having savings' and 'having even the smallest most humble life' and obviously i choose the latter#i never go to the movies#i buy all my clothes second hand (got some this past month after not having bought any new clothing in almost two years)#i have visited a museum TWICE this year#i go to restaurants like... once a month max#i am living the most frugal life that i possibly can without denying myself all pleasures#i don't even have netflix or anything like that! i only very rarely order delivery! i cook my own damn meals!#you get the picture#and yet still: one single missed paycheck is enough to potentially fuck up my life seriously#i've never missed a rent payment in my life but i'm scared it may happen this time#just wrote to HR of my former employer (who is supposed to still be paying me through october) to politely ask where my paycheck is#it's probably coming today (i sure as hell hope so) but if it doesn't... i legit don't know how i'm going to pay my rent#my rent is 673 euros and i only have 400 in my bank account#i probably have enough food in my pantry to survive for a month if i had to#but i've never missed rent in germany before (or ever) and i have no idea how long they'd wait before evicting me for non-payment#i'm scared. and i'm tired of being apparently the only fucking person in my social groups who is this poor#i am an over-educated 37-year-old professional who typically gets classed with the 'expats'#but one missed salary payment has me thinking about eviction and affording groceries#this is what i mean when i say i'm an immigrant. not an expat.#those people with their apple watches and co-working spaces and spontaneous trips to thailand or brazil are... a world apart from me#how come everyone i meet is so damn rich? where do i find fellow poor friends?#anyway i'm stressed. and i'm so so tired of spending my mental energy worrying about money#cosmo gyres#personal

I’d beg for him to visit a Hispanic country (my own background lol) but visiting Brazil seems much more likely

either Dan and Phil don't give a fuck, there's some budgeting issues going on or they REALLY need to change whoever is managing them.

Hi! Is Oli also in Brazil? Haven’t seen him at the airport pics
I'm not sure. I can only see his two bodyguards in the pictures, not even Matt. But they could have gone out separately

H.M. The King's speech at gala dinner, World Scout Foundation
Your Highness, Dear friends and guests,
It is a joy to be here with all of you – BP Fellows and supporters of scouting. This time in the city of Rio de Janeiro at our first ever BP Fellowship in South America.
Brazil holds a special place in my family’s heart. I am always touched by the kindness of Brazilians, and grateful for the welcome extended to us scouts at this BP Fellowship event.
It is a pleasure to see how scouting continues to grow in Brazil and to celebrate this centennial milestone of the National Scout Organisation together.
In scouting, we believe in empowering young people by giving them the leadership and life skills they need to become caring and active citizens. We want to inspire them to be peacemakers and community leaders who are constantly ready to help others.
Scouting has always been important to me and my family. My father, Prince Gustaf Adolf, was the chairman of both the Swedish Scout Union and the International Scout Committee. I am almost sure he saved the notes from all the scout meetings he attended, and there are many photoes showing the many jamborees he participated in.
My Godfather, the peacekeeper and negotiator Count Folke Bernadotte, who also was a scout, even wrote a book about scouting. He believed that the true spirit of scouting embodies the need to do something good for others every day.
This principle of kindness was something I experienced firsthand when I joined the scouts about 70 years ago. It did not take long before I realised that scouting is so much more than tying knots, lighting a campfire, or navigating a map through the woods. It is about engagement - the desire to be part of something greater, to stand up for one another, and to make a difference in the world.
Dear friends and guests,
At the Impact seminar, I was moved by the scouts from Brazil, Honduras and Mexico. Thank you all for sharing your stories and showing us how scouting transforms lives.
We learned how Brazilian scouts did not hesitate to help others in the face of devastating floods in Rio Grande do Sul. And how scouts here are working hard to welcome young people from all backgrounds into scouting, including those growing up in vulnerable communities.
Tonight, it has been a pleasure to recognise more BP Fellows and Honours Programme Members. Thanks to your support, even more young people will experience the joys, adventures, and challenges that so many of us have known both when we were young, and throughout our lives.
I encourage you to do everything you can to support scouts worldwide. In doing so, the scout movement will continue to serve even more young people and their communities.
As Ahmad Ahlendawi is moving on to new adventures, I want to take this opportunity to thank him for his achievements as Secretary General for the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Under Ahmad’s leadership, national scout organisations have reached a record of 57 million members. Moreover, scouting has expanded to more than 10 new countries. That is worth applauding!
Finally, I would like to thank you all for everything you do for world scouting. Let’s do more together!
Speech held by H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Oct. 27, 2024.
