Simakova was the 2019 Junior World Champion in Rope. She changed nationalities from Russia to Germany but Russia opposed her change and she's currently sitting out of international competition for one year until March 2024. However she is able to continue competing domestically in the Rhythmic Bundesliga. Irina Viner has not opposed all Russian gymnast country changes and I do not know the story behind why she has opposed Simakova's.

I now have a nIcE thought about Tugger.

What happens when an entire country throws a temper tantrum?

Rhythmic Gymnastics is a dumpster fire of a sport full of corruption and abuse which is dominated by Russia and a favorite of Eastern European countries.  In the olympics it’s one of the few remaining single gender sports and involves individuals and groups performing with balls, hoops, clubs and ribbons.  It is so crazy that even the world of Artistic Gymnastics which has it’s own corruption and crazy to go around looks at Rhythmic and goes “too much, so much of the muchness” and tries to pretend they’re not at all related.

To say that Russia wins all the things in this sport is an understatement, and what’s more Putin’s long time mistress and the mother of some of his children is a former Rhythmic Olympic gymnast. The world of Rhythmic Gymnastics is ruled by a larger than life cartoonishly evil coach named Irina Viner-Usmanova as head of the national federation.  She has featured in a documentary about 2016 Rio gold medalist Margarita Mamun where she was horrifically abusive to her and when the producers asked her if she wanted them to take the film of her cursing out and demeaning Mamun out she said no.  She was delighted with how she was portrayed.

In Tokyo the incoming World Champion was Dina Averina and along with her twin sister they were expecting an coronation as is usually the case for Russian champions in this sport.  But Averina has been constantly injured over the years and her routine was an expert composition in avoiding the skills she could no longer do.  Meanwhile Israeli rival Linoy Ashram has been increasing her difficulty and such that despite dropping a ribbon in Tokyo she won (Averina had won at the world championships while dropping a ribbon).  And then Bulgaria beat Russia in the group performance.  

And all hell broke lose.  Horrific abuse aimed at Ashram online as well as the judges.  The international gymnastics federation issued a statement having reviewed the judging and found it proper.  Viner and Russia have threated to sue FIG and the head of the Rhythmic Technical Committee (essentially the head of judging in the sport), also a Russian, was attacked as putting her own personal ambition over that of the nation.  Even though her job is explicitly to be neutral.  Viner has withdrawn Russia’s support for her re-election and she will be forced into retirement.  For not being corrupt.  The Averina twins are being given the awards in Russia reserved for Gold and Bronze medalists and Putin has himself attacked the judging in Tokyo.  

And Viner has publicly talked about how the Averina twins told her that they wanted to go to university and she laughed, said she’d kill them and told them to go back to the gym.

Hate, hate vine nostalgia. The only reason you think it is better than tiktok is you're an fucking adult now and the teens enjoying jokes you dont fully understand makes you feel weird.

Sure, vine's six second limit fueled creativity and comedy in a way that tiktok can often fail. But as someone who remembers vine I can recall that it was nearly entirely a closed club of about 30 viners collaborating together to make the same exact same racist, misogynistic and homophobic jokes interspersed between lazily made sketches sponsored by clash of clans or whatever. Then there's like the ten diamond in the rough viners that make up the bulk of the vine compilations that you nostalgically rewatch but they frankly hated the site and jumped ship to better platforms immediately

Vine failed badly, noone was creating content. Bland ass unfunny cishet people living in the same apartment complex owned the entire platform.
