Sunday 1st May 2022 I went to sleep in my tent that night just after helping set down the Mach arena at the end of the comedy festival. While we were putting away all of the chairs, I became so angry for seemingly no reason. Now that I was in my tent I was crying so much because I'd finally worked out that there is no place in the world for me. No group I really belong to. I'd been wanting to go to mach fest since it first started and I'd heard about it on the radio. Now that I was at the end of my first festival with nothing at all to show for it something broke in me. When I woke up on Monday morning I was too afraid to even move because I'd got it in my head that any move I made would be the first step in me killing myself. And then I packed up my tent and my dad came and picked me up and we went home.
I can't remember how the idea came to me, but I decided it's a good idea to have some kind of time limit. If I can't sort myself out in, say, the next two years then what's the point of being here anymore. Plus it puts off thinking about the grim details and partilars for a little longer. After learning the concept of a TK day, well that matched up close enough. "When youre ten thousand days old, about twenty seven years and four months old, you should be able to do everything else anyone else is doing and, what's more, you should know what it is you want to do." Well that day was approaching and all I knew that I wanted to do was to die.
So what happened since then? Basically, I just got too depressed. The initial taskmaster mania (I do genuinely think the initial episode I had involving taskmaster was an episode of hypomania) back in 2021 also brought on this very freeing sense that it simply didn't matter if I was hurt or died. As a specific example, one specific fear I had about trying out stand-up is that someone would throw a bottle at me (nothing like this has ever happened to me, I don't know where this fear came from), but the episode I was having gave me the strong sense that that didn't matter at all. I'd get a bit bruised oh well who gives a shit. This then festered into actual suicidal ideation after mach fest (which got partially obscured by the taskmaster treasure hunt, but that's a bit of a tangent).
On 20th January 2023, tantacrul released a video called Encouraging the Young to Die - The Most Toxic Site I've Ever Seen. This video talked about forums and such that encourage young people to kill themselves. This video had kind of the effect to break up my thinking a bit. I think it would probably be a bit overdramatic to say it saved my life. I reckon the general trend on my feelings would have been the same since nothing ever happens but it's notable.
By the end of 2023/start of 2024, being a taskmaster fan had become unviable to me emotionally. Something about the suicidality was important for the sense of freeness it brought, and with that gone, taskmaster became uninteresting to me (there are also other things involved in that conclusion but they are not relevant to this post). I simply have no desire to watch or engage with taskmaster anymore.
So now it's March 2025. I meant to write some version of this post in January. I'm ten thousand and something days old. I'm still really depressed. I still feel unviable. Maybe the fact I've been living at my friend's house for the past nearly three months stopped me doing anything but probably it didn't. Who I am now is of no risk to myself. Nothing ever happens.
