Victoria Street, North Melbourne, c. 1880, looking west towards the Benevolent Asylum.
The Benevolent Asylum opened in 1851 to house the poor, the disabled, the infirm and the destitute. The service was relocated to Cheltenham in 1911 and the North Melbourne building was demolished the same year.

My first time in Edinburgh. The architecture, the history, the ambience. I wish I stayed for more than a weekend.

A view up Victoria Street in 1860 from Bank Hey Street with the Crystal Palace Room dominating the junction, it was later demolished during the 90's.
The building in the distance in the period photograph is the house of William Henry Cocker called "Bank Hey" which was built by his father Dr. John Cocker. Today the Victoria Street entrance to the Winter Gardens complex is located at this site.

Victoria Steet, Hamilton Central, 1906 These images showcase the centre of Hamiton town at the time. Many of these buildings have been redeveloped, repurposed or removed. This image shows the heritage and history of the city, showcasing the constant growth and development it has seen to become what it is today. I wanted to explore the history of the city to understand the impact of the differences we see today. To honour the present is the acknowledge the past. Victoria Street is not uncommon, with most cities having a street with this name.
