A perfect present
Tumblr media
A missing moment from the two year time leap before the beach proposal
Sang Yan’s bar is already quite busy when Jiaxu arrives. But it doesn’t take him long to find his friend in their designated booth. There’s food already on the table and he’s grateful because he’s had no time to eat all day. (He’s carefully avoided having to tell Sang Zhi this knowing it would only cause her to worry more.)
“You know once she moves back here you can’t keep this up. She’ll kill you if she finds out you’ve been skipping meals again,” Sang Yan warns him.
Jiaxu smiles. “Is that why you’re feeding me, darling brother?”
Sang Yan scoffs as he always does when Jiaxu teases him like that.
“Jiaxu,” his friend sighs and Jiaxu can hear the worry in his voice.
He places his chopsticks down. “It’s okay. I just worked a little extra now so I’ll have more time available later.”
Sang Yan nods, immediately understanding. “So have you decided what you’re going to get the little demon for her graduation?”
Jiaxu smiles and it does not go unnoticed by Sang Yan.
“Well?” His friend asks impatiently and Jiaxu only smiles a little more.
“I have an idea.” Jiaxu knows he’s probably got a bit of a dopey look on his face but he doesn’t care. These days he thinks he’s always got a dopey look on his face when he thinks about his girlfriend.
As he expects Sang Yan rolls his eyes; more in habit than annoyance. Secretly, Sang Yan has been Jiaxu and Sang Zhi’s biggest fan but he wouldn’t dare let them know that. He enjoys giving them a hard time too much for that. But he also knows that he’s never seen two people more in love and no two people who are so perfect for each other. He has always wanted the best for his sister and thought his best friend deserved true happiness. He just never thought they’d find it with each other.
“Fine. Don’t tell me,” Sang Yan whines and Jiaxu laughs.
“Why don’t you wait until graduation weekend?”
Sang Yan doesn’t answer him as some of their friends come to join them.
It’s not an unwelcome interruption. Jiaxu hasn’t seen his friends in a while and he’s happy to indulge them now with jokes and stories. He’s mindful of them too and notices that even Sang Yan has pulled back on the drinks tonight. At the end of the night he calls them a taxi and they rowdily get in waving their goodbyes. The bar’s quieter now, just a handful of workers, Sang Yan and himself.
His friend has been calling out instructions to his employees before joining Jiaxu at their table again.
“Sang Yan,” he says and there’s something in his tone that has his friend sitting up right almost immediately. “Are your parents free this weekend? There is something I’d like to talk to them about.”
Sang Yan raises a brow. “What is it?”
“Zhizhi’s graduation present.”
Sang Yan sits back, eyeing his friend closely. “Duan Jiaxu, what are you planning? You’re not moving back to Yihe are you?”
Jiaxu laughs. “No! Of course not. Nanwu is where we both want to be.”
“So?” And there’s a playful smirk that Sang Yan’s got that tells Jiaxu his friend might already guess at his plans.
Nevertheless he puts his hand into his pocket and pulls out the thing that has been weighing heavy in his coat all night. He places the soft grey box on the table and leans back to gauge his friends reaction.
Sang Yan looks from him to the box and back to him again. “Are you sure?”
Jiaxu doesn’t answer, merely tipping his head to the side a little. Of course they both know he’s sure but as a big brother, Sang Yan has to ask.
Eventually Sang Yan picks up the box, opening it to carefully examine the ring inside. He whistles as he brings it closer for inspection.
“I’ve always told her I’m going to be good to her and love her for the rest of my life. I’ve worked hard to settle everything here and make sure she’s going to live well when she comes back home. Everything I’ve done has been for her and ... darling brother,” he teases and Sang Yan scoffs, “I would like your blessing to continue loving her not just as my girlfriend but as my wife.”
Despite it all, Sang Yan is speechless for a moment. “You’re ... asking for my blessing too?”
Jiaxu sighs. “I told you before, I didn’t handle it properly when we first started dating. I don’t want this to be like that. I want to do this right.”
Snag Yan looks back at the ring. “I never thought anyone would ever be good enough for Sang Zhi. But I was wrong ... and I’m glad it’s you... so yes.”
Jiaxu looks momentarily surprised and Sang Yan huffs. “Ya! Did you really think I’d say no?”
Jiaxu does his best not to grin too wide. “I just didn’t think you’d agree so quickly.”
“It’s for Zhizhi and I’m not going to stop her from being happy like she deserves.” He leans forward and says his final piece. “Besides, I know your character Duan Jiaxu. I trust you with her.” He looks over at his friend who is grinning like a fool and it’s almost entirely too much bromance for him to handle.
Sang Yan hands him the box back, ring carefully tucked inside.
Jiaxu smiles as he looks down at it and Sang Yan knows these two are going to be unbearably sappy come post-engagement.
“You’ll be there when I ask her.”
Sang Yan pauses. “You want me there?”
“Hhm, and your parents.”
“Are you sure?” And because he can’t help but tease his friend he adds, “It’ll be so embarrassing for you if she says no and we’re all there to see it.”
Jiaxu laughs. “You think she’ll say no?”
“You think she’ll say yes?”
“Of course she will.”
Sang Yan laughs. “I hope your proposal is as great as your confidence.” An idea comes to mind and he leans forward, mockingly fearful as he says, “I hope you don’t plan to have us dress up in weird costumes or whatever.”
Jiaxu rubs at his jaw thoughtfully. “Actually I had a whole song and dance in mind for you.”
Sang Yan scowls and waves his friend off.
Jiaxu shakes his head. “Relax, darling brother. All you have to do is be there. I thing Zhizhi would love that the most.”
Sang Yan nods his head but can’t bring himself to say that he wholly agrees because once again, Jiaxu has proven just how well he knows his sister.
“So what do you have in mind?”
“Snag Zhi likes the beach and I -“ he’s cut off by his cellphone ringing. He glanced down and immediately grins. He can practically feel Sang Yan’s eye roll as he tells him to answer it.
“Wei.”
“Wei Jiaxu,” comes her soft reply and as it always does, it fills his heart with warmth.
“Did you eat?” She asks and Sang Yan gives him a knowingly look but doesn’t say anything. He sighs, and leaves the table as Jiaxu and Sang Zhi talk.
Sang Yan is back as the bar, checking with his employees when he glances over at his friend. His best friend who is sitting with the happiest look on his face as he talks quietly into his phone. He knows then that no matter what they’ll always be happy. They’ve already proved that things like age and time and distance are no problems for their love. He catches Jiaxu playing with the ring box as he talks to Sang Zhi, that smile on his face that is reserved strictly for Jiaxu’s Zhizhi.
He returns to the table when he sees that Jiaxu is die with his phone call.
“Did the little demon give you a hard time?”
Jiaxu laughs and says no. Sang Yan knows it’s the truth - at least in Jiaxu’s eyes. Because nothing is too much or hard or impossible for Jiaxu when it comes to Sang Zhi.
“Do you think she’ll like the present?” Jiaxu asks him.
For a moment Sang Yan is surprised. Mostly because Jiaxu never doubts himself when it comes to dotting on Sang Zhi. He does it so instinctively that there is never any room for complaint or doubt. But he understands that maybe this is a little different.
“Yes. I think she’s gonna love it. It’s a perfect present for the little demon,” he tells his friend.
Jiaxu visibly relaxes at that as he looks back down at the ring box. He sees the excitement in Jiaxu’s eyes and Sang Yan finds he shares some of that as he imagines what his sister’s reaction will be.
He knows what Sang Zhi’s answer will be. Despite what he told Jiaxu earlier, he has no doubt that Sang Zhi will say yes because he is quite certain he doesn’t know any two people more perfect for each other.

Call Me By Fire, ep. 1 & extras rewatch
A mostly-hinged recap of things that still delight me:
Up’s solo stage is the same song Jeff, Danko, & Co. sing in the finale medley
Jeff on the floor crying over how beautiful Ma Xiaolong and Jawn Ha’s dancing is
Newsies extras Boyuan and Jeff perched together on their theme song scaffolding
Boyuan and Victor attempting to greet Jeff in Thai and being incomprehensible  😂
Jeff visibly regretting his life choices after finding out he has 2 days to learn a dance number
Victor being such an extroverted social butterfly that Boyuan ends up translating
‘What if we counted?’ Boyuan ILU ❤️
Day 1 of rehearsal and Jeff’s hand is already in his hair, this will be a marathon of suffering
Victor claiming Jeff as his first Thai friend, only for Boyuan to immediately start listing Victor’s other Thai friends
Welcome to the first week of the CMBF costume department attempting to drown Jeff in fabric
PHIN! (Phin Appreciation Squad)
Jeff and Hu Bing deep in conversation on the bus, hopefully about fashion
The apple apple pineapple game and Boyuan’s inability to say Jeff’s name
Danson and Jeff fanboying over each other's hair
Jeff and Boyuan getting competitive over the acupuncture mats, and Victor yelling ‘Jeff!’ in a familiar tone of outrage before immediately tapping out
Boyuan and Jeff lording it over Victor that he's the baby of the group
The formation of the Jeff Tribe OT3 here we goooo!

Been binging on Hidden love, a Chinese drama lately and it's actually soo cute that my brain is malfunctioning. For my first Cdrama, I believe it's a good start. This was a friend's suggestion and it's living upto the expectations as of now.
I was actually a little irked by how young the kid Sang Zhi looks though. Like her younger self is a 14 year old teen but the girl looks no older than 8 in my eyes and i would have maybe dropped the show on the very first episode if not for Duan Jiaxu's angelic face and smile. But sticking with the show has been worth it coz it keeps getting cuter.
Duan Jiaxu is at this point a neon green flag and he somehow keeps on getting greener every episode. I really don't know how that is possible. I am half way through and that boy is just too nice a person till now. And the kind of nice where you know that the person has a good heart, like they are not doing it to show anything or make someone like them. They are just warm. No wonder Shang Zhi fell so hard because it's kinda impossible to not fall for him.
Tumblr media
Angelic, indeed.
Sang Zhi is a sweetheart as well and her first heart break felt so personal even though you could understand the situation. She really conveys how it feels to have that first crush. I can't wait for these two to finally get together now and be the absolute perfect couple that they would be.
I have another favourite as of now, in the form of Mr Sang Yan. I believe he is the most accurate and wholesome representation of an older brother that i have seen lately. A complete goofball who will tease his sister to death but will hold her while she cries and tell her that he has her back at all times. The literal best, I am not even kidding. I am truly blown by how real his character feels and how much of an impact he has made with the screen time that he has. He is again someone who is just genuinely nice, and it's clear in the way that he treats his family and his friends.
Tumblr media
Some really good representation of men, to be honest. And a really good representation of how puppy love feels. That first crush, the first time someone makes your heart feel all warm. It's painfully sweet and i am truly in for the ride.
**Sharing something other than totnt and my baby boy Rangie for the first time here. Feels weird. But well, I binge a lot and slowly, this is just going to be my space to talk about all my fandom loves.**

Homebound
Tumblr media
Her time at Yihe University is over but it’s far from the end for Sang Zhi. She’s going home to where her heart and happiness reside.
Tagging: @kairadiamond (hope you enjoy this one friend!! 😉)
Sang Zhi sighs contently as she wriggles a little in her seat. She hears a soft sleepy sigh beside her and she grins. Her hand clutches more tightly around the one holding hers. Glancing down, she can’t help but stare at the beautiful addition to her hand. It’s all shiny and sparkly and it fills her with the most satisfying kind of butterflies. Sang Zhi is sure she’s got a sort of dopey look on her face – the ‘puppy love face’ her gēgē calls it but she doesn’t care. She’s far too happy to mind him. Besides, she would be the first to admit she gets some joy out of annoying her gēgē.
She feels the gentle weight of Jiaxu next to her as he moves in his sleep, his head falling atop hers. It’s been a long weekend for them all. Her graduation, proposal and the farewells all rolled into one. But now they’re homebound, and she couldn’t be more excited. She’s missed her parents, and brother a lot. She’s missed them since her first year away. Over the months and years, she had gotten used to missing them in some small way. They talk every day on the phone and she messages her brother till he blocks her but it’s helped ease the homesickness away, just a little.
But she’s missed Jiaxu in a different kind of way. And no matter how often they talk, and text and video-chat, it’s never been enough. Even the visits they made back and forth were just not enough.
Nothing would compare to having him right there. Sang Zhi admits that perhaps she’s grown a little (or a lot) greedy for his presence in her life. Now that they’re heading back home to Nanwu, she’s excited to feel that again. To see him endlessly without worrying about their time coming to an end.
She knows her excitement and happiness has been palpable and the only thing that has made it all sweeter is that Jiaxu seems more excited about it all than her – if such levels of excitement were even possible.  Sang Zhi knows they’re probably wearing her poor gēgē and his patience very thin but he’s always been a good sport about it all. If she didn’t know him as well as she did or trust the friendship Jiaxu and Sang Yan shared, she might have worried … or even cut him some slack. But he’s her silly dog and she’s his little demon and now they’re all heading back home – together – for the first time in what seems like forever.
She can’t help the soft happy little sigh that leaves her as Jiaxu absently rubs her hand with his thumb. She snuggles down closer to Jiaxu and she knows now that he is not nearly as asleep as she initially thought.
Sang Yan grumbles and Sang Zhi giggles.
“Ya! You two are unbearable,” He complains. “Can’t you do all this once we get back home? In fact, why are you even doing that while I’m right here?”
“What are we doing?” She asks with a raised brow as she looks at her brother. “We’re not doing anything wrong!”
“This is too much,” Sang Yan goes on, pointing between them.
“Don’t be jealous gēgē. Your turn will come.”
Sang Yan scowls. “Hey little demon! I already told you; I have a girlfriend.”
“Ah yes! This mysterious girl that no one’s met. You know make-believe girlfriends don’t count, gēgē.”
“You’re very cheeky today.” Sang yan comments looks at her. “We should leave you here for another week.”
“I’m afraid I can’t let you do that, darling brother,” Jiaxu says. He opens his eyes, looking down at Sang Zhi and they both ignore Sang Yan’s eye roll. “I can’t leave my girlfriend behind.”
“Jiaxu, I’m not your girlfriend anymore,” she says sneaking a look at her brother.
Jiaxu chuckles. “Right! You’re not. Girlfriend is not your title anymore.”
“It’s fiancée now.”
Jiaxu grins and leans down to give her a quick kiss.
“Ya! Enough!” Sang Yan scolds and they laugh. “Why did I have to sit here?”
“Don’t blame us, gēgē. It was your choice.”
“It was not!” Sang Yan argues and he’s right about that much.
By an absolute twist of fate, he ended up sitting next to them. Their parents had flown back the day before. So, it was just them in Yihe for one last night before heading home. Sang Yan had not planned to sit right next to them, knowing how unbearably sappy they would be but the airline told him there were no other seats available and he had not choice but to take it.
Someone, somewhere was laughing at his luck.
Jiaxu turns and looks at his friend. “Don’t fuss too much, brother. We’re almost there.”
“Not soon enough,” Sang Yan mocks but settles back into his seat. For good measure he pulls his headset on and does his best to ignore the two beside him.
Sang Zhi smiles and then goes back to looking at her ring.
“Do you like it?” Jiaxu asks.
“Hhm, I love it. It’s beautiful. Xièxiè Jiaxu,” she says and pushes herself a little up to kiss him.
She can feel his smile against her lips and reminds herself that they cannot forget where they are right now. They will have time for longer hellos once they’re back home.
“Are you happy to be going home?” Jiaxu asks.
She nods but she knows what he is really asking. “I’m going to miss them. It’s strange to think how fast time has gone. I didn’t expect to love them as much as I do. But I’m sure we’ll see each other as often as we can.”
“You made good friends at university, Zhizhi and it’s okay to miss them. Just tell me and we’ll go back anytime you want to see them.”
She’s visibly happy by that and he takes her hand, wrapping it around his arm, thereby pulling her as close as possible. She leans her head against his shoulder again, sighing contently once more.
As her eyes close, sleep trying to slink in after all the excitement of the long weekend. But she’s been resisting it for most of the flight. Not wanting to miss a moment with Jiaxu.
She feels Jiaxu sigh against her and then he says, “Get some sleep Zhizhi. We’re almost home now,” and presses a kiss to her forehead.
So, she does, knowing home and everything she wants awaits her on the other side.
