*I couldn't find information on where Tereza was from, so I assume she's Croatian because she sang in Croatian. Please let me know if you have a source for what her nationality is!
**Zdravko Čolić is Bosnian-Serbian.
***Danjiel is Montenegrin-Croatian.
****One member of Vlado and Isolda is from Serbia, and the other is from Croatia.

Eurovision 1965 my top 18
Hello again, or should i say, ciao, and welcome to another chapter of this series of ESC tops, and we go now back to March 20th, 1965 when the Eurovision Song Contest 10th edition was held in Naples, Italy after their smashing win in Copenhagen. 18 countries took part and it was the biggest at the time, Sweden returned and Ireland made its first appearance, and went to be a huge player in the contest in a far decade. The contest was won by Luxembourg and France Gall with the song Poupée de cire, poupée de son. And now let’s review the 18 participating songs.
1st Place: LUXEMBOURG/France Gall-Poupée de cire, poupée de son (Real Placing: 1st-32 points)
BEHOLD THE WINNER!!! I’M CRAZY FOR THIS ENTRY AND FOR FRANCE GALL. This song is beyond my words and certainly brought modernity and a breath of fresh air for the contest. AN ABSOLUTE WORTHY WINNER AND FRANCE, YOU’RE A LEGEND.
2nd Place: SPAIN/Conchita Bautista-¡Qué bueno, qué bueno! (Real Placing: =15th-0 points/last)
Again, how could this finish last with nul points? THIS IS AMAZING, Conchita is such a good singer, the performance was amazing, the song is everything, gorgeous singer as well, another injustice in the world of Eurovision.
3rd Place: MONACO/Marjorie Noël-Va dire à l’amour (Real Placing: 9th-7 points)
Awww a cute song, her voice is magical, the music is calm and it’s like a song i would hear walking in the park. Such a lovely song that deserved more.
4th Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Conny van den Bos-T is genoeg (Real Placing: 11th-5 points)
And another great entry from The Netherlands that was ignored by the juries, this is brilliant, her voice is amazing, the song is enjoyable, and the bongoes make this cool. This song gets stuck in my head and I start humming it suddenly.
5th Place: DENMARK/Birgit Brüel-For din skyld (Real Placing: 7th-10 points)
There’s something I enjoy about this one, sounds calm, but also the lyrics are fierce, she sings it so well and makes me feel great. Nice song.
6th Place: AUSTRIA/Udo Jürgens-Sag ihr, ich lass sie grüssen (Real Placing: 4th-16 points)
Again Udo delivers greatness to the contest, the song is amazing, his voice is on point and the lyrics are good. IMO his best entry and it would’ve been an amazing winner, maybe he was looking for victory this year or another year...
7th Place: NORWAY/Kirsti Sparboe-Karusell (Real Placing: =13th-1 point)
I love this one as well, but I think the song needs less orchestration, sounds heavy and the song maybe is more relaxed. Kristi’s voice is playful and cute, makes this song brilliant and good.
8th Place: PORTUGAL/Simone de Oliveira-Sol de inverno (Real Placing: =13th-1 point)
This lady is one of my favorite singers from Portugal, the song is very good and her vocals are superb, also the music is amazing, oh Portugal, many good songs and you were always ignored.
9th Place: ITALY/Bobby Solo-Se piangi, se ridi (Real Placing: 5th-15 points)
Oh what an entry!!! A good singer, nice music, and an amazing entry as well, Bobby’s voice is superb and the backing singers make this better.
10th Place: IRELAND/Butch Moore-Walking the streets in the rain (Real Placing: 6th-11 points)
Ireland’s first entry and it’s a well made Irish ballad, this is the perfect song for a rainy day, Butch has a great voice and the song is beautiful. Well done Ireland, now wait for the best in the next decades.
11th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/Kathy Kirby-I belong (Real Placing: 2nd-26 points)
A modern and accurate song for 1965, well performed but I don’t think this is a runner up, even though I like it, IMO there were better options this year. Nice song and nice singer.
12th Place: FINLAND/Viktor Klimenko-Aurinko laskee länteen (Real Placing: =15th-0 points)
I like this one, he has a great voice and the song is good, a nice entry overall and his style with that beard is nice. Certainly an enjoyable song.
13th Place: SWEDEN/Ingvar Wixell-Absent friend (Real Placing: 10th-6 points)
This song is good and Ingvar surely has a good operatic voice, but what annoys me it’s that he sings in English, I like more the Swedish version because it’s more powerful. The music sounds dark but it’s well made.
14th Place: BELGIUM/Lize Marke-Als het weer lente is (Real Placing: =15th-0 points/last)
This one it’s relaxing and her voice is amazing, the music is good and what a performance, a cool entry overall.
15th Place: FRANCE/Guy Mardel-N’avoue jamais (Real Placing: 3rd-22 points)
As with the German entry, I have a conflict with this, the verses are good but that chorus... annoys me, he sings so well but the song... not my cup of tea.
16th Place: GERMANY/Ulla Wiesner-Paradies, wo bist du? (Real Placing: =15th-0 points/last)
I have something weird with this song, one part of me likes it, but another part of me dislikes it, maybe the best part are the verses and the music in it, but the chorus it’s kind of a letdown. Not that good but absolutely not a nul pointer.
17th Place: YUGOSLAVIA/Vice Vukov-Čeznja (Real Placing: 12th-2 points)
I like this more than his entry in 1963, but I still think this needs something else for being a great entry, nice voice again and cute song, but it feels incomplete.
18th Place: SWITZERLAND/Yovanna-Non, à jamais sans toi (Real Placing: 8th-8 points)
I don’t know why but I don’t like her voice so much and the song is quite plain and boring, also forgettable even though this was the last song of the evening.

(FOX004LP) ALFI KABILJO: SEX, CRIME & POLITICS - Cinematic Disco, Jazz & Electronica from Yugoslavia 1974-1984 (Limited Edition) (Gatefold LP)
Six vintage cinema classics scored by famous BAFTA nominated Croatian composer Alfi Kabiljo are compiled here for the first time in one album. Films include first feature soft-porn in Yugoslavia (Honeymoon / Medeni mjesec), genre gems like Journalist and Deps and many more. A subtle musical drive into 70's Zagreb night clubs, smokey bars and shady characters from the other side of law. Journalists, gangsters, politicians, diplomats and ladies of the night make this disco, funk and jazz themes well-suited socialist version of Bernard Herrmann's Taxi Driver.
All tracks are transferred from the original master tapes, selected and programmed by Fox & His Friends owners Leri Ahel and Zeljko Luketic.
Full color, gatefold LP is out December 23, 2019. BUY HERE!
Featuring music from the films: DEPS (Deps, 1974) Directed by Antun Vrdoljak Starring Bekim Fehmiu, Milena Dravić, Fabijan Šovagović & Relja Bašić NOVINAR (The Journalist, 1979) Directed by Fadil Hadžić Starring Rade Šerbedžija, Fabijan Šovagović, Stevo Žigon & Milena Zupančič USPORENO KRETANJE (Slow Motion, 1979) Directed by Vanča Kljaković Starring Relja Bašić, Boris Buzančić, Lela Margitić & Mia Oremović ZLOČIN U ŠKOLI (School Crime, 1982) Directed by Branko Ivanda Starring Zlatko Vitez, Miodrag Krivokapić, Zdenka Heršak & Žarko Potočnjak MEDENI MJESEC (Honeymoon, 1983) Directed by Nikola Babić Starring Slobodan Milovanović, Biserka Ipša, Nada Abrus & Ksenija Prohaska AMBASADOR (The Ambassador, 1984) Directed by Fadil Hadžić Starring Miodrag Radovanović, Elizabeta Kukić, Voja Brajović & Inge Appelt
At the time of the release of this record, Alfi Kabiljo will be celebrating his 84th birthday. One might think that this can be an occasion to slow down and reflect on the past, as many of his colleagues would do, but this certainly does not apply to versatile and busy Croatian composer. He is still working, writing music, conducting, arranging and above all enjoying his craft and life. His opus involves music for over 50 films, 100 TV episodes, numerous commercials, theatre productions and easy listening pop music. His nickname in Yugoslavia, now in Croatia, is still “The King Of Musical” with “Jalta, Jalta” (1971) being the record breaking success all over the world. Helping the careers of pop stars like Radojka Šverko, Tereza Kesovija, Ana Štefok and Vice Vukov, Alfi travelled, conducted and performed his music all over the world, from Japan to America.
Kabiljo's pioneering work with synthesizers led him to be a first composer in Yugoslavia to play with expensive Fairlight CMI machine in the 1980s and to have The National Philharmonic Orchestra in London available for recording sessions (Sky Bandits, BAFTA nomination). In this selection of mostly unreleased film scores, we focused on his love of classic disco beat, combined with funk, jazz and lush orchestrations, typical for the shady Zagreb nights, populated with unsolved crimes, worked up journalists and ladies of the ‘oldest trade’. One of the films, Honeymoon, labelled first soft-porn in Yugoslavia, caused scandal and critical backlash, but Kabiljo never seemed to bother with provincial labels or morals. The sum of six different films compiled here somehow override its parts and make the continuous flow of one completely new and imaginary film called Sex, Crime & Politics.
Composed, Arranged and Conducted by Alfi Kabiljo. Recorded by Petko Kantardžijev at Studio Jadran Film, Zagreb. Musicians: Branko Košir (String Section Leader), Marijan Domić (Trumpet), Mladen Sedak-Benčić (Flute, Alto Flute, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone), Vedran Božić (Electric Guitar), Mladen Baraković (Bass Guitar), Duško Mandić (Guitar), Svemir Opara (Guitar), Salih Sadiković (Drums), Boris Benini (Percussion), Srećko Zubak (Hammond Organ), Jaroslav Kubiček (Synthesizer), Darko Lukač (Synthesizer), Zlatko Tanodi (Synthesizer), Alfi Kabiljo (Synthesizer, Piano), Robert Schwabenitz (Transcription).

“Elderly” folks like me may remember the late Dudley Moore’s classic skit (if you don’t you can watch it HERE) where he plays multiple variations on the Colonel Bogey March and then is unable to end it. He plays coda after coda after coda, but they never resolve. The Living Room Theatre’s production of Lucy’s Wedding, written and directed by Randolyn Zinn, has that same rambling, unwieldy feeling and is equally hilarious. Comedy run amok.
LRT presents just one production each summer at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington. The production is site-specific, and the actors cast live, eat, and rehearse together, I offer this little preface so that you understand the dynamic of this group. There are lots of new plays on the boards this summer, but Lucy’s Wedding is nurtured by its creator and owned by the performers in a unique way.
The play has been evolving over many years. Initially it was a 10 minute play, then a one act, and now it is a full length two act play. I was unable to decide which were the original 10 minutes content, but Act II is clearly the add-on. Act I, which takes place on Lucy’s wedding day, remains a self-contained work. Act II, set the following Christmas, merely updates us on the character’s lives five months later. Luckily they are engaging characters, winningly played by a lively and talented cast.
Last season LRT presented Lucy Caldwell’s Irish adaptation of Chekhov’s Three Sisters. Lucy’s Wedding is also the tale of three sisters, and it sprang originally from Zinn’s own thoughts and memories of growing up as one of three sisters – although she is quick to point out that the play outgrew its autobiographical roots long ago.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
This is most adamantly a play about women. The central family is a matriarchy consisting of Gaga (Kirk Jackson), her daughter Peggy (Karen Trott), and Peggy’s three adult daughters Merle (Sara Canter), Doreen (Colleen O’Connor), and Lucy (Julia Valen). Gaga’s husband, Otto, and Peggy’s husband, Farley, are dead, although the latter does make some ghostly appearances in the person of LRT co-founder Allen McCullough . Doreen’s husband, Donald, chooses not to be present. Lucy’s fiancé Cal (Michael Broadhurst)and his brother Eliot (Will Gallacher) are the only living male characters on stage.
I will not give away the plot but suffice it to say that these are definitely people who put the “fun” in “dysfunctional” with broad slapstick comedy. The family is devoutly Roman Catholic and Gaga has memories of her mother and life back in the “old country,” the Alsace-Lorraine, an alpine region between France and Germany. \There are the usual siblings squabbles and rivalries. Merle is the sister who has escaped the Midwest, moving to New York to pursue a career as an artist. Lucy still lives at home with her mother and grandmother but that will change with her marriage. And while Doreen is married with a home of her own, she lives close by and still identifies herself strongly with her birth family since she and Donald are childless.
The play begins with Lucy dreaming, and over the course of the show all the other characters recount or reenact dreams of their own, often to side-splitting comic effect. Towards the end of Act I Cal and Eliot perform an hilarious version of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” with delightfully mangled lyrics as part of a fight scene, and towards the end of Act II Gaga’s dream of dancing with Jesus comes true. (Yes, Jesus makes a cameo appearance. Why not?)
Over the course of rehearsals in New York and then in North Bennington Zinn has encouraged and allowed each performer to really inhabit their characters, so all of the performers are perfectly suited to their roles – and vice versa. Some of the actors, notably Trott, have been involved with the show for a long while; some, like Broadhurst and O’Connor, have been with LRT for several seasons, and others are newcomers. Each brings their own unique spark of life to the production.
Two performances are notable for their physicality. Broadhurst is a fine physical comedian and his Cal is just a whirlwind of anxiety and energy, whether sober or, in Act II, totally sloshed. While Broadhurst is perpetual motion, Jackson, with his silver hair neatly clipped to the side, is tightly constrained as the wheelchair-bound Gaga, who demands that she be integral to every refuses to be excluded from the goings-on.
Since LRT usually performs in non-theatre spaces, there are no sets. Three different spaces within the Park-McCullough Carriage Barn are used – one for each act and a third for a very brief scene that takes place just before the start of the second act – and the audience is moved rather than the scenery. Chase McCloud has designed the lighting, which I cannot really comment on since I saw a matinee performance and natural daylight washed out many of the effects. His sound design, however, was smart and well executed.
The play is set in the 1980’s and many of the costumes harken back to that gaudier, chintzier time in fashion. Costumes have been loaned by Sherry Recinella and Emily White is credited with “Special Costumes,” while Richard McPike is the creator of the “special undergarment.” My companions and I actually differed on which undergarment we thought was the special one, which proves that there’s more than one exotic underpinning on display!
Lucy’s Wedding runs two and a half hours with one intermission, and it could easily have that extra half hour trimmed off. Tightened up this would be a really hilarious show. In its current form it is a happy meander from one character’s moment to the next, with many hearty laughs along the way.
Lucy’s Wedding, written and directed by Randolyn Zinn, is presented by the Living Room Theatre in the Park-McCullough Carriage Barn at 1 Park Street in North Bennington, VT, from July 17-28, 2019. Producer Roger Cooper, Project Manager Rocky Friedman Vargas, Lighting and Sound Design by Chase McCloud, Special Costumes Emily White, Special Undergarment Richard McPike, Costume Loans Sherry Recinella, Masks Julia Toacaci, Miscellaneous Sewing Anne Cooper, Graphic Design Angus McCullough, Rehearsal Assistant Monique Vukovic.
CAST: Julie Valen as Lucy, Will Gallacher as Eliot, Karen Trott as Mom/Peggy, Kirk Jackson as Gaga, Sara Canter as Merle, Colleen O’Connor as Doreen, and Michael Broadhurst as Cal.
Performances July 17-20 and 24-27 at 7:30 pm, matinees at 2 pm July 20, 21, 27 & 28. Suggested contribution $30. Since seating is limited and the show can only run TWO WEEKS, reservations are a must! Best to reserve online at [email protected]. Or by phone: 802-442-5322

Eurovision 1963 my top 16
Hello and welcome again to another chapter of this series about the ESC. And we are talking about 1963, and it was held on London, United Kingdom after France decided not to host again the contest in a short period of time, and it was held on March 23rd 1963. 16 countries took part and again the voting system was changed. The voting was controversial because of the Norwegian voting but you can find more about it on Wikipedia. And now, with the songs.
1st Place: DENMARK/Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann-Dansevise (Real Placing: 1st-42 points)
MY WIG FLIES EVERY TIME I HEAR THIS. Magical, enchanting, timeless... I can’t describe my love for this one, and of course this is a worthy winner, despite the controversy surrounding it’s victory. A marvelous song from Denmark and one of my fave winners ever.
2nd Place: ITALY/Emilio Pericoli-Uno per tutte (Real Placing: 3rd-37 points)
This one is something I enjoy listening at and it was far from Italy had sent before, and it worked out. Maybe this in other year would’ve won but the competition was very tough. His performance is great and enjoyable.
3rd Place: GERMANY/Heidi Brühl-Marcel (Real Placing: 9th Place-5 points)
I love this song, it’s catchy, upbeat, and her performance always makes me smile because it’s too uplifting and maybe her voice isn’t the best here but i enjoy it.
4th Place: FRANCE/Alain Barrière-Elle était si jolie (Real Placing: =5th-25 points)
I adore this song so much, the music, his voice, the orchestra, the lyrics, everything is marvelous. One of the songs I enjoy the most in the 1960′s, and well done France.
5th Place: MONACO/Françoise Hardy-L’amour s’en va (Real Placing: =5th-25 points)
The first yé-yé style song in the contest and with one of the best singers this year, I love her song and her style is awesome, makes me feel calm even the song is quite sad. Such a nice entry.
6th Place: SWITZERLAND/Esther Ofarim-T’en va pas (Real Placing: 2nd-40 points)
In this year this is one of the songs that was involved on the controversy I mentioned before, and this would’ve been a good winner, she’s a good singer, the music is good but my heart belongs to another song...
7th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/Ronnie Carroll-Say wonderful things (Real Placing: 4th-28 points)
This is good and Ronnie’s is a good singer. The song is nice and has a winter vibe to it. I think this is wonderful and well performed.
8th Place: LUXEMBOURG/Nana Mouskouri-À force de prier (Real Placing: 8th-13 points)
One of the best songs this year, Nana’s voice is so amazing and the performance is good, the music is good and the song overall is nice. Good entry from Luxembourg.
9th Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Annie Palmen-Een speeldoos (Real Placing: =13th-0 points/last)
This little song makes me feel like I’m inside a music box, dancing and turning around. Her voice is good and the song it’s kinda memorable, the music is very calm and enjoyable.
10th Place: SWEDEN/Monica Zetterlund-En gång i Stockholm (Real Placing: =13th-0 points/last)
Ah I enjoy this so much, her voice is superb and the song has a jazzy vibe to it. Calm but entertaining, a cute song overall.
11th Place: SPAIN/José Guardiola-Algo prodigioso (Real Placing: 12th-2 points)
This is something I would hear on the classic radio of my country, the lyrics are good and his voice is good, but not remarkable, the music is what makes me like this song.
12th Place: BELGIUM/Jacques Raymond-Waarom? (Real Placing: 10th-4 points)
This song is good, he’s a good singer, and iMO the most handsome singer of the 60′s, overall a good entry.
13th Place: NORWAY/Anitta Thallaug-Solhverv (Real Placing: =13th-0 points/last)
For me the beginning is the best part of the song, but when it progresses fails flat and it’s a bit boring, but certainly better than the previous songs. Her voice is very sweet.
14th Place: AUSTRIA/Carmela Corren-Viellecht geschieht ein Wunder (Real Placing: 7th-16 points)
Her voice is something that makes me wonder if I like it or not, and the song it’s not that bad, but it isn’t something remarkable for me. The music is amazing and reminds me of a song of a 60′s movie.
15th Place: FINLAND/Laila Halme-Muistojeni laulu (Real Placing: =13th-0 points/last)
This one is sweet, but also a bit boring and forgettable, the only part I can remember is the la la la because it was featured in 2014. Nice singer though.
16th Place: YUGOSLAVIA/Vice Vukov-Brodovi (Real Placing: 11th-3 points)
Sadly and with all the pain of my heart I must say that I can’t remember this song after it finishes. Vice’s voice is good but nothing else.
