Vervet monkey - Wikipedia
Interesting animals. The females communally raise the young in groups. They also exhibit spiteful behavior where one will destroy a competitor's food without eating it.

Some monkeys are just so precious
(Scroll To The Bottom For Video)
Youtube recommended me this channel a while back and today I came across this video that really just proves a lot of things about monkeys (not apes, monkeys). Yes, monkeys can be harsh in some ways, but oh my goodness do some of them have such a sweet nature. This example being adult vervet monkeys coming to the "rescue" of screaming baby monkeys even if they do not know the babies and have never met them.
I really did not expect that at all. I thought they would be like other animals where they do not take in babies from outside their own group, but I guess it does make sense in a way. Monkeys are social animals that like larger group sizes.
I highly recommend giving this a watch for any animal lovers out there or even just Monkey King fans (haha, I see you). You might get some inspiration from a behavioral standpoint when it comes to the many depictions of Sun Wukong in modern media such as Nezha Reborn, Monkey King: Hero is Back, Uproar in Heaven, Lotus Lantern, Monkey King Reborn, Monkey King(2014), Netflix Monkey King 2023, and Lego Monkie Kid.
These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head where Monkey King really does act exactly like a monkey at times. Even though Sun Wukong is not supposed to be just a Monkey, these movies/shows depict his monkey traits very well whether it be how he interacts with others/socializes, or his mannerisms in general. Seeing how vervet monkeys behave reminded me of this fact with how playful and protective Monkey King often gets when children are in the picture or it's someone who is far younger than him, it's really nice to see.

End note: After watching this, I got really interested in how prehensile tails work and how tails only for balancing work. I'm also curious to know how macaques/baboons stay balanced when they only have stubs or short tails. I might just make a whole post about nothing but monkey tails sometime this week.

Vervet monkey (Chlorocebus pygerythrus). I’m not why this one was photoshopped into the oats guy, but you could say that, much like real life Quakers, they keep it simple, style-wise:
Tumblr media
Their coats are light gray, that becomes lighter on the underside of their bodies with their faces, hands and feet being darker. Nothing anyone who preaches plain dress would have an issue with. Except for males, that is, whose private bits are…
Uh. I’m not sure if I can show this kind of thing here. They’re primates, so it might look a bit too human-like for Tumblr’s tastes and I really don’t want my blogs to get marked as explicit. But at the same time, you can’t talk about vervet monkeys without drawing attention to… hold on. I’m gonna make a SFW alternative to show you what I mean real quick.

This leopard was very well camouflaged on a hillside with thick brush.
The guide found her because he noticed monkeys shrieking their warning sounds in a tree some distance away, and started searching in the direction they were watching.

You can see the roof of my tent through the bushes behind the leopard.

So she was very close to camp but I only saw her once.
She stayed put when we moved on, disappearing back into the greenery as soon as the angle changed.

Bale mountains vervet (Chlorocebus djamdjamensis)
This shy monkey is incredibly unusual, even by the standards of Old World monkeys: it’s an African bamboo specialist. Found only in a small area of Ethiopia known as the Bale Mountains, it lives in bamboo forests. It is however more adaptable than other bamboo specialists like the giant panda, and also eats fruits, small animals, and the leaves of other trees.
