I have finally come up with a name for my story featuring Apple!! From now on My k/h/r oc story (at least Apple’s mainverse) will now be referred to as:

Only took me a whole year to figure out ✨

Lost ;; 1

Arms, rested idly by his side, as the nightmare rested; inside the temporary cave, he called home. Long had he drifted; from hidden locale . . . to hidden locale, never really finding a place to call him home . . . all the while if he settled in— who’s to say someone might find him && cause issues.  

Though for now, he found respite—psychically at least.

As his mind drifted further between the plane of reality && his own realm, his body became more still. Often this was the case, as he brought himself into his own nightmarish scene. Darkness . . . 

Darkness for what seemed like an eternity.

His body floating through this darkness, that pulled him further in. Unable to move a muscle,  his tired eye seemingly scans around . . . looking for any picture, anything to go off of . . . rather than just the darkness that closed in around him. Voices rang through, crying, shouting, angry, && distraught— some were familiar, while others distant && unknown.

Somni squinted, as he tried his best to ignore the haunting cries of those he’d tortured in the past . . .  not that anything had any weight to it, as each voice was garbled with the rest; becoming more of a mess of sounds, than actual voices speaking to him.

‘ Hello?? ‘

Something pushed through the mess of tones, Somni flinched && eyes darting side to side as he tried to make out who had spoken out within the tempest of madness.

‘ HELLO?? ‘

❝ Hello, whos there?? who’s speaking??  ❞ He called out, much to his dismay not a single voice responded to his call. && as quickly as he’d been able to make out that single voice . . . again was it lost within the fragmented sounds. Leaving Somni only wondering who had broken through so much mess just to call out to him . . .

what seemed like seconds of silence, felt like hours.

‘ You want help . . . ‘

The voice then called out, everything went silent, all except Somni of the mysterious voice that soon continued to speak out to him in a nurturing manner.

‘ You’ve been looking for so long haven’t you?? why did you give up?? ‘

❝ I didn’t give up . . . I can’t find answers, I don’t know where to look . . . ❞ Somnis voice cracked with dejection as his mouth twisted into a frown. His mind flared at the thought of something else having broken into his realm. No one could do that . . . could they??   He trembled . . .

what was happening?? this had never happened before. . .  Was this even a nightmare?? it couldn’t be. he had a lunar wing . . .

‘ Don’t makeup excuses for your self. you close your self off from others. how do you expect to find an answer when you’re looking all on your own . . . it’s a fool's errand. It’s No wonder you’re so drained . . . ‘

With his head lowered, Somni had no voice to object. What could he possibly say?? there was no rebuttal. They were right . . . whoever this was; was correct && he’d been too stubborn to ever want to believe it. The idea of asking others— let alone people who MIGHT actually have answers. scared him.

He didn’t want to hear rejection.

❝ W-well . . . what do I do?? ❞ 

‘ Reach out . . . ask for help. Someone will help you. ‘

As the final piece of advice was given, what seemed like an endless supply of dark abyss, began to close in on Somni. The air became thin && as he further panicked, he could feel the pull of his mind being brought back to reality— one heavy tug &&

He awoke. 

An arm outstretched as if reaching for something. Tired eyes were locked into a forward stared, looking out into the maw of the cave, the moon hung at its peak. 

Nightfall had barely begun . . . But Somni would not be resting any longer . . .

off in the distance. Tiny paws pad away into the shadows.

hi so i love rereading Non Mortem, Somni Fratrem, it's one of my fave pynch fics!! and i was wondering if you'd ever write one more thing in that verse? because i always wonder how the christmas right after adam wakes up goes... ronan has this moment where he says if adam dies christmas will be tainted forever. and so when he doesn't die, i always wonder how that christmas goes down. because it's supposed to be the next week in the fic after adam wakes!! anyway thank you for writing NM,SF!

i'm glad you like it!!! and. okay so i wasn't initially planning on writing more for that story, but this ask did get me thinking about how the aftermath would go. i probably won't write a fic for it anytime soon, but i can imagine it would be a quiet holiday since adam is still recovering and everyone's still getting over the "holy shit that was stressful" stuff. they'd have skipped christmas altogether if it weren't also matthew's birthday, so they dig up some christmas decorations from the attic and matthew and blue head the operation, while adam scolds ronan for almost forgetting matthew's birthday because "seriously? you just forgot the calendar existed? your mom's spinning in her grave right now" "try not to die around major holidays then, asshole. try august next time" "i'll keep that in mind"

‘Marvelous’ Season Premiere Recap: “In Somnis Veritas”

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains plot details from the Marvelous season four premiere, “In Somnis Veritas,” below.

In somnis veritas. “In dreams there is truth.”

And the truth is? We have no idea what these dreams are supposed to mean.

During AE!’s exclusive on-set interviews with the cast of Marvelous last month, Steve Rogers (playing the Captain) shared that the Season 4 premiere would be entirely centered around the concept of dreams. “There are really low points but there are really high points, too,” Rogers had dished, “and it’s just one of those things you know will have that punch and then keep on punching.” But tell us, Captain: when do the punches stop? It’s hard enough to riddle out which dreams and nightmares from last night’s episode are foreshadowing and which ones are just plain teasing! The last thing we need is to know that there are still more hits coming our way.

But we should probably be used to that by now, right?

Another thing we’re used to? Spending the entire week after an episode trying to dissect what the heck we just watched.

In the months between the surprise Season 4 teaser trailer that dropped on The Late Night Show and last night’s premiere, the cast had teased that this season will bring happier days back to our heroes. And while that’s definitely what we thought of during last night’s dream sequences, what does that say about the nightmares?

‘Marvelous’ Season Premiere Recap: “In Somnis Veritas” (continued)

December 12, 2017. 6:52 AM PST.

Last night’s premiere hits the ground running with its theme around dreams: the episode opens with a beautiful shot of an outdoor wedding, complete with white petals on the ground and everyone decked out in suits and pastel dresses. Everything is bright and ethereal, vaguely eerie version of the wedding march playing as the camera pans over the audience until finally settling on the face of the bride: Black Widow. Big shocker there. Even less of a shocker? Her groom, standing under the floral arch: the Captain.

We all knew this was coming. Did it make us any less emotional as we watched the Captain and Widow hold hands and recite vows in front of the crying faces of their loved ones?

Absolutely not.

But just as the Captain peels back her veil for a kiss, we cut to a very grim version of the same scene: it’s nighttime now, with the chairs empty and strewn across the grass, and Widow’s beautiful wedding dress is now torn and covered in blood. Widow repeats her vows, but this time as she recites, “until death do us part,” the vaguely eerie music comes to a stop - and then the Captain bolts upright in his chair. He’d been in the infirmary the whole time, having fallen asleep at Widow’s bedside. She gives him a sad smile and asks if he’s alright, and, in true Captain fashion, he dodges the question altogether and checks on her vitals. He tries to rush off, but Widow gets up to stop him and asks him to stay, and the Captain hesitates before kissing her forehead and promising that he won’t leave.

Meanwhile, we find Thor beating the crap out of a punching bag in the gym. There are flashes back to the scene of his powers getting stripped from him from last season’s finale, his punches getting progressively harder as he relives the memory... and then it gets worse: Agent Hill comes up behind him, touching his shoulder in an attempt to get his attention, but in a flash, Thor has his hands around her throat. The buzz of electricity can be heard as the lights of the training room flicker, and Agent Hill seems oddly calm considering she’s being choked to death, which seems to clue Thor in: he realizes he’s punched the bag straight off of the chain during his dream (nightmare?) and the real Agent Hill is standing unharmed beside him as she gives him a status update: Widow’s memories are still gone, Hawkeye is still out cold, Scarlet Witch is still missing. But he’s only half-listening. He flexes his fingers (yup, powers still gone) and stares at Agent Hill’s neck, terror written all over his face.

Agent Hill asks what’s wrong, but of course, before he can answer, they’re interrupted by a commotion passing through the hallway: Agent 13 and Quicksilver are back with Iron Man, and he’s looking pretty worse for wear.

Access Entertainment! Exclusive Preview: The Late Night Show Just Got a Little More Marvelous

The last time that the stunning Natasha Romanoff was in New York to chat with Peter Quill on The Late Night Show, we expected Quill to give us the scoop on Romanoff’s cozy Hawaiian vacation with her fellow Marvelous co-star, Steve Rogers, which had us all swooning over our screens this summer. But of course, Romanoff dodged the interrogation in true Black Widow fashion: with a charming smile and a downright dirty seduction tactic in the form of a Marvelous teaser trailer, dropping an entire week earlier than scheduled.

Well played, Miss Romanoff. Well played.

Fast-forward two months later, just hours before Romanoff was scheduled to appear to tape her slot in tonight’s show, Quill tweeted about being more determined than ever to squeeze out the juicy details about Romanoff’s and Rogers’ Hawaiian getaway. But Romanoff still had more tricks up her sleeve: the audience cheered as Quill announces her arrival... and then promptly went into hysterics at the sight of her head of blonde hair!

Yes, you read that right: the infamous Black Widow is now blonde, and we’re still not sure how we feel about it. Romanoff looked every bit as stunning as we know her to be, but her fiery hair has been such an iconic feature of hers that we’re a little sad to see that it’s gone.

At least, for now it is. “You’ll see,” Romanoff answered cryptically when Quill bemoaned her new color and asked what brought on the change. “It’s a plot thing. Nick and I agreed a wig didn’t do the trick, so the red had to go. But I promise you, it’ll be back. It’ll definitely be back. I miss it already!”

We do, too, and we’re certain Romanoff’s new fiance must feel the same. Rogers has never been shy to voice how much he loved Romanoff’s bold hair color, having done so on social media on numerous occasions, long before the pair had started dating. A fact that was pretty much known following the intimate photos of the two out and about around Maui this past summer, but something neither outright confirmed until Romanoff’s twenty-ninth birthday just a couple weeks ago, when the couple took to Instagram to announce their engagement. Rogers proposed to Romanoff down on one knee at the birthday party the cast and crew had put together for her, and, in his Tweet congratulating the couple, fellow Marvelous co-star Clint Barton shared that, “it took a while for them to come back up for air.”

There’s no doubting that Romanoff could show up in neon pink hair and still look stunning, and Rogers would still be just as head-over-heels for her, a fact that Quill was quick to point it out.

“He better,” Romanoff teased with a bright smile. “And technically he proposed to me twice, so he has to wait for another strike before calling anything off.”

Wait, what?

“He did, he did,” Romanoff laughed when Quill asked if this was true. “He technically proposed to me in Hawaii, except he was really just asking if we wanted to officially ‘date.’ It just didn’t seem like a significant enough term and we kind of joked about it. We were like, ‘is it just dating when we know so much about each other?’ We’ve spent three years together at this point and dating wasn’t going to just wipe us clean of our friendship, so why give it such a vague title? So he went straight to a proposal. And I said yes.”

‘Marvelous’ Season Premiere Recap: “In Somnis Veritas” (continued)

As Iron Man gets rushed into medical, Quicksilver explains the fight with Ultron from that ended in Iron Man barely hanging onto consciousness as they rushed to get him back, while Agent Hill shares how Hawkeye ended up in a coma and how Widow nearly bled to death. Then comes the worst part: Scarlet Witch is missing, and there’s been nothing but radio silence from Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Quicksilver - who had been vocal in his protest to let his sister go off without him - shouts at Agent Hill, ranting angrily, only to storm off when Thor steps in. Agent Hill then shares the news about Widow’s memories and Agent 13 snaps, nearly hitting Agent Hill when she hurls Iron Man’s broken at the wall and then storms off. Thor warily asks how Agent Hill is holding up, but she simply shrugs it off and goes after Agent 13 to comfort her, and elsewhere, Captain runs into Quicksilver and quickly does the same.

If you think things might’ve magically gotten better for our favorite little witch since the finale, then you were mistaken: the first glimpse we get of Scarlet Witch is her sprawled out on the floor. There are indistinct voices and sounds and sights blurring in and out as she struggles to wake up, but then the Winter Soldier’s suddenly comes into focus at her side as he brushes her hair from her face. She’s confused - just as much as we are - and then the scene shifts into another dream sequence with more ethereal lighting and happy yet eerie instrumentals. Scarlet Witch lays on the floor of a gorgeous bathroom, but this time she’s smiling and holding onto a positive pregnancy test (gasp!) as a clean-cut Winter Soldier hovers over her again. Scarlet Witch tells him that “this changes everything,” to which the Winter Soldier reassures her that she can handle it.

With that sentiment still echoing, we shift back to a battered Scarlet Witch still on the floor, with the hallucination of Winter Soldier encouraging her to get up - and so she does. She takes in her surroundings: she’s in some kind of holding cell in the middle of lab with scientists and armed guards everywhere. When she looks down at her arms, she sees marks all over herself as blurry memories of the experimentation flash. Before she can freak out even more, however, a scientist crouches beside her and, predictably, he launches into a creepy story of how he’s waited to get his hands on her and how she has so much beautiful potential. She doesn’t say a word, but like any evil villain, he shares his plot anyway: he wants to bring the world to their knees, and she’s been the missing piece of his equation.

Outside in the snow, Falcon and the Winter Soldier are still right where we left them on a snowy mountainside, but at least they’ve stopped throwing punches at this point. Falcon is working to get a connection going to call the others for back-up as the Winter Soldier attempts to figure out where the hidden lab might be. It only takes a minute and a half (yes, we counted) for the tense silence to diverge into more arguing, but at least this time it ends in a mutual agreement on what direction they need to head in.

      CAPTAIN             (returning her teasing)             Nah. Didn’t need to bother you when I’ve got it handled.

      BLACK WIDOW             Or maybe you just don’t need me?

Captain flinches as if slapped, Black Widow’s smile fades a little, not expecting the reaction. Something feels off...

      CAPTAIN             I always need you. I’ve always needed you.

      BLACK WIDOW             I know.

      CAPTAIN             Do you?

Their eyes meet -- Captain’s fill with emotion, overwhelming Black Widow. Maintaining eye contact becomes too much. She rushes to him, pulls him into a hug.

      CAPTAIN             Sometimes I think you don’t. That I don’t tell you enough.

Black Widow finds this so absurd that she laughs, tearing up, squeezing onto him tighter.

      BLACK WIDOW             So tell me now.

Captain laughs too, and it sounds like relief. In a flash he’s lifting her up and setting her on the counter, pulling her close again. They gaze into each other’s eyes, not saying anything. It’s enough -- it always is -- but in this moment, they both need more...

Black Widow puts her hand on his face, making him meet her eyes. She wants to reassure him, but the heartbreak she sees makes her stop short. His stare is intense -- intensely lost -- and she feels connected to his pain. She hurts just like him.

      CAPTAIN             Thank you.

      BLACK WIDOW             (blinking, tearing up)             For what?

      CAPTAIN             For not saying it’ll be alright. You never lied to me before. Even when you’re not mine, you still know what to say, or not say.

      BLACK WIDOW             I was yours?

      CAPTAIN             (swallowing, visibly fighting to not look away)             Yeah, I think so.

      BLACK WIDOW             (whispering, because she thinks she already knows the answer)             Were you mine?

      CAPTAIN             Yeah.             (cracking a half-smile)             Still am.

      THOR             Barely. The whiskey is helping.

      CAPTAIN             You probably helped more.

‘Marvelous’ Season Premiere Recap: “In Somnis Veritas” (continued)

December 12, 2017. 6:52 AM PST.

Back at the Facility, the Captain, Agent Hill, Agent 13, Thor, and Quicksilver are gathered in the hallway just outside the infirmary wing. Black Widow is sitting in her bed, not at all pretending to be reading rather than eavesdropping as they try to make sense of the turn of events that left the Team in shambles. But they end up with more questions than answers: How could anything drain Thor of his powers, and why? What was so important about the truck Iron Man tracked down that he intercepted it without a plan? What epiphany did Hawkeye have before he chased after Widow and ended up in a coma? Are Widow’s memories gone for good? And where the heck are Scarlet Witch, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier right now?

The conversation (understandably) grows frustrated, but now Black Widow isn’t paying attention. Exhaustion is taking over, and she feels herself drifting out until she finally gets pulled into a daydream: she finds herself in a cookie-cutter suburban house, walking down a hallway lined with frames. She and Captain are in all of the photos being displayed, carefree and happy, and the frame at the end displays an oil painting of Widow in a wedding dress. (The same one from Captain’s dream sequence, to be specific. Coincidence? Not at all.) Then, when someone calls for her, she walks into the kitchen to find Captain carrying a mass of groceries. She teases him about not needing her, but the joke falls flat, and, oh look, there’s that creepy, eerie music again. Captain assures that he does need her and he doesn’t tell her enough, and we get the sense he’s not just talking about groceries. Widow comforts him, and then the dream shifts: same house, same kitchen, but this time Widow and Captain both walk in from the garage carrying groceries. Ah, lovely - positive paralleling. They set the groceries down and Captain hoists her onto the counter, and Widow puts a hand on his face as they gaze adoringly at each other before kissing.

And naturally, this is when Widow is woken up.

Captain looks troubled (obviously) as he walks back into her room, so much so that, rather than brushing it off, he shares with Widow how helpless he feels. Widow doesn’t say anything, but of course it’s enough. It always is with them. Captain thanks her for still being “his” and this catches Widow off-guard. She hadn’t realized that they were this intimate, but it seems like Captain finally has.

Elsewhere in the Facility infirmary, Agent Hill and Agent 13 are seated by a still-out-cold Hawkeye‘s bedside, quietly continuing to puzzle everything out. What bothers them the most is figuring out what Iron Man was chasing after, though we know the truth: whatever it is that Hawkeye figured out was what he told Iron Man to investigate while Hakweye went after Widow so he could bring her back home and clear her name. Because of course Hakweye knew the real reason behind her “betrayal”, too. What doesn’t this man know?

As Agent Hill and Agent 13′s voices fade away, we’re brought into yet another dream sequence: Hawkeye finds himself walking through a farm in the middle of nowhere, and it seems like even he doesn’t know what he’s doing there, but it’s oddly peaceful. A young girl and boy come running out of the house, laughing and playing an intense game of tag, and then shortly after a woman follows. Her attention is on the baby boy in her arms, her hair hiding her face, but all of the excited chatter coming from the kids becomes a blur of noise as the woman turns her head and we’re met with the face of the agent who left Iron Man for dead. Not that Hawkeye would know this. She touches his shoulder and leans in to kiss him, and when she pulls away, the kids are gone and they’re no longer on a farm. Instead they’re in the same warehouse where Hawkeye tracked Widow to, and the mystery woman is dressed in a black catsuit. She gives him a sweet smile, which is disturbing considering that the Captain is practically in hysterics over Widow’s body as she bleeds out on the floor.

The laughter of the kids can be heard again, the little girl exclaiming, ���tag, you’re it!” just as the mystery woman’s smile takes on a sharp edge - and then Hawkeye wakes up. Agent Hill and Agent 13 are immediately at his side, but before they can begin to fuss over him, he says that he “knows what it is.” A man of few words, as always. Agent Hill tells him to lay back down and take it easy, but he goes on to say that he knows what was in that truck: weapons built with extraterrestrial technology, with the designs that had been stolen from him earlier in Season 3.

Yikes.

Meanwhile, back in the snowy mountains, we see Scarlet Witch struggling to stay upright and conscious on the floor as the red wisps of her energy start to materialize around her. The head evil scientist is still rambling, this time about explaining the grueling experiments he’s putting Scarlet Witch under, and that’s when she sees it in the corner of the room: the cube-shaped energy behind a glass containment unit, hooked up to the machine that the scientist is tinkering with. Her energy flares in alarm, which of course catches everyone’s attention. Guns are at the ready, but the scientist is unconcerned as he comes toward her with a tool Scarlet Witch has never seen before. (One of those weapons Hawkeye thought up, perhaps? Seems like a safe bet.)

The scientist grabs her arm, yanking her to her feet, but as soon as he points the tip of the strange instrument to her skin he’s blown back by a ripple of her energy. She flinches, stares down at her hands in surprise at the pain she feels from her own powers, but she isn’t given the time to ponder this: the guards are gathering around her with their guns aimed, shouting threats at her as she starts to gather her energy in her palms. The scientist stares at her in ominous fascination rather than terror, and the cube of energy starts to spark, seeming to react to her powers. The shouting escalates, until finally someone fires a shot - and in a blink, the cube of energy and Scarlet Witch’s energy explode as if detonated. The shot cuts to the laboratory from the outside as red energy bursts from within it, and from just up the mountain, we see Falcon and Winter Soldier watching as the building collapses. Sparks can be seen as everything is crumbling, and there’s a quick flash of Thor at the Facility, wincing in pain as the sparks grow more violent before fading, being absorbed by Scarlet Witch’s red energy. Thor nearly keels over, but the pain fades, replaced by frustration as he hurls the weight in his hand across the gym. He falls to his knees as he breathes heavily, and Agent Hill can be seen watching him from the door, a worried expression on her face.

Back on the mountain, we find Scarlet Witch completely untouched and laying on the snow, her red energy dissolving into the air after having protected her from the explosion. Falcon and Winter Soldier rush to her side, and after a quick check of her pulse, the two look at each other and look visibly relieved. Scarlet Witch’s eyes fly open the moment Winter Soldier touches her, but she eases all at once when she sees that it’s him, and he lifts her in his arms and tucks her to his chest as her body shakes. Scarlet Witch catches sight of her forearm as she’s being carried and immediately tenses when she notices that the fresh marks from the experiments have already significantly faded. She looks alarmed, and slightly terrified, and she catches a red spark from her fingertip before the screen cuts to black.

Have I ever talked about Apple’s living situation in Namimori?

Without giving too much away or spoiling anything I’ll just say that for the first few weeks Apple actually stayed at the Sawada house upon coming to Namimori! Wherein she uses Tsuna’s room after Reborn kicks him out and forces him to let Apple use it (and also his mom tells him to be hospitable to the new guest lol) so he holds in his huffs and sighs in front of [Apple] as he packs up to sleep on a futon somewhere else in the house (grumbling the whole way) lol.

Eventually though, Reborn announces to everyone that the two of them have bought their own residence and will be moving in there. Nana is of course a little sad but expresses joy for them, the kids express the same sentiment (except Lambo who says he’s taking Reborn’s room now and Tsuna who angrily snips back that that’s his room actually). And Tsuna says he’s happy and relieved to have his own space back. The day Reborn and Apple move out comes and goes and that night Tsuna is lying in bed at first excited to sleeping in his own bed again in his own room by himself. Before realizing he can’t really rest and feeling… Well, lonely. He can't help it, you know? He’s been living with Reborn for almost two years now. Heck, at this point he’s even gotten used to having Apple around all the time. So does this mean he’ll be seeing Reborn less? Shouldn’t that make him happy? And yet…? And eventually he falls into fitful rest.

When he awakens the next day it isn’t to a calm and peaceful morning rather it’s to Reborn’s Leon hammer acting as his (very painful) alarm clock. Reborn has come to make sure he didn’t sleep in or get lazy just because he isn’t in the same room anymore.

Tsuna: you came all the way over just to wake me up??? Do you plan on doing that every day!? Won’t that get exhausting? Reborn: it’s not too much trouble at all 🥰 Tsuna: ???

That’s when Tsuna hears some laughing and noise downstairs. He goes down to see what’s happening only to find Apple sitting at the breakfast table chatting happily with his mom, Bianchi, and the rest of the kids. When Nana spots him she goes “Good morning! You’ll never guess who moved in next door!”

And that’s when Tsuna learns Reborn and Apple are his new neighbours ❤️

5) Favourite multi-chapter - how do I even choose x’D

I still love Minotaur’s Maze (even as I can see its weaknesses in structure and storytelling clearly xD). It’s just, I’ve been in love with this concept forever and I finally wrote it and I’m excited for people to get to the plot twists? Which I hope I did a decent job of setting up? :D?

Blood Alone Remains isn’t really a multi-chapter, but it would’ve been if it weren’t an event story. (Well, probably. I can’t really see any good moments to break the story up into sections, but well). It’s long, it should count xD I’d love to rewrite it actually as an original piece and take a closer look at some of those subplots and character motivations :D!

I don’t feel all that happy about Take No Prisoners, And Socrates Asked or These Little Lies anymore, surprisingly? Like, I could do a way better job of them if I were writing them now, but I guess that’s normal and just shows my progress? I still love them for what they were but I want them to be better xD”

Your Prince Is In Another Castle occupies a weird place for me, because it is @kaysno‘s and mine brainchild and I love it and there’s awesome plot we will (hopefully) get to one day, but on the other hand, the beginning is so old it could use a rewrite? lol idek. I wanna finish it just to maybe work on a sequel?

19) Apropos sequels: yes there are, and it’s a lot of them and I never have enough time between stories I’m writing and want to write xD

Prince is definitely one (we’re gonna need a funky King title probably lol). I’m already lowkey plotting one for Minotaur’s, too. Eternity, Eventually is still missing part 3 of the series, which will be the final part. I want to play around a bit more in the ‘verses of Heroes Are A Myth and Feral Heart, too, though not serious sequel levels at this point, more like explorations of character and world?

I’m going to skip my other unfinished series because yes, they’re all getting more installments (eventually).

I’ve been playing with the idea of adding one or two more parts onto Ghost Story, actually, to explore how Jeremy, Ray and Ryan work together and maybe get them into a romantic relationship? Shenanigans of trying to recover Jeremy’s body? Angst as Jeremy and Ryan have to deal with Ray being a mortal while they are… not? :D?

Club Omega is another big one where I have several smut and relationship developement ideas I’d love to play with. And I have half a plot for Nothing Left To Do But Stick With You where Jack and Geoff move on with their Quest (and maybe get together? :D?) but are also oblivious idiots. And I kinda wanna go back to the Shifty Business AU and explore some other characters and how they fit into the universe and their backstories?

And possibly a (shippy?) spin-off/sequel for I Try To Picture Me Without You where Jack and Gavin go to a party for a con? Or maybe the doolray spin-off instead? :D?

29) Stories that don’t get much attention

Ohhh boy, yeah. I think every writer has like their secret fave story they were super excited to share and then the reception ended up being rather lukewarm in comparison. In general, I feel like my jackeoff and mavin fics tend to underperform? Idk if that’s an experience across the fandom or what but that’s my general take away.

Like, I expected it for stories like Heroes Are A Myth which has several points against it: it’s a rarepair, it’s femslash and it’s not one of the major popular AUs in this fandom. At 1 comment and 11 kudos it’s my lowest ranked fic in the ragehappy fandom. (I’m honestly shocked it got as many as 4 bookmarks.)

Similarly, In Somnis Sirena only has 1 comment and 20 kudos, but that’s not shocking me either because it’s smut, it’s het, and I think turnwood should absolutely also be considered a rarepair, no matter how many jokes have been made about it. Actually, the jokes and consequent back and forth about appropriate behaviour etc. might factor in negatively as well. And again, not one of the major au.

I’m kinda sad that Blood Alone Remains is my third lowest ranking fic, considering how much heart and effort I put into the story. Again, I get it - it’s gen for the most part, and when it’s not the ship is het (Lindsay/Michael, which again not the most popular). It’s a long story for a one-shot at 20k, and I don’t think from what I heard during and after that a lot of people were even aware of the event happening that I wrote it for. So yeah, 4 comments is actually pretty good I guess for what it is, but just 24 kudos does make me a little sad.

I do understand why Minotaur’s Maze isn’t doing so hot, and I honestly didn’t expect it to (7 comments, 35 kudos so far). For one it’s still a WIP (publicly, anyway), so I’m kinda holding out hope that once it’s finished some more people will come and read it. On the other hand it’s raywood, and while that once was a popular ship, it’s had time to fade (or be bullied out of fandom, lbr). Complicating that, the raywood tag on Ao3 seems decently active (relatively, anyway), so I have to assume that the core network of fans probably know each other and I’m a new entity in the tag, which generally doesn’t garner much trust and favour immediately.

The other half of the ships being mavin doesn’t seem to help too much, since, again mavin is a ship that gets an author very little feedback comparatively.

Case in point: The Catch (6 comments, 91 kudos) and The Closet (4 comments, 60 kudos). They’ve slowly been amassing some kudos over time, so maybe 90 kudos seems ludicruous to harp on about, but it’s been a very slow process indeed. Tbf they are part of a series, and unless a series becomes super popular, installments within a series tend to perform less well than one-shots in my experience. Though again, it kinda depends on the ship.

I want to bring up two more stories and then I’ll stop rambling xD

I generally bring up Proper Procedure for this question (7 comments, 67 kudos/ a lot more since last time, so I suppose bringing it up constantly helps) - and I think the lack of attention to this story is partially my own fault. I’ve tagged it extensively, amongst others cheating and domestic violence. Which are not things actually happening within the story, but things presumed by the PoV character to be happening. I think it’s fair to warn anyone who might be triggered or squicked by these things, but I certainly didn’t do myself any favours by tagging them.

And the last one is Double Cross (4 comments, 37 kudos). Which again - it’s gen, it’s platonic Ryan & Meg which surprisingly only does slightly better in kudos and about the same in comments, depending on how lucky you get. It’s kind of a shame because I love their friendship? But writing turnfreewood gets a bit more encouragement so why not write about their friendship in that scenario then, right?

Sonmi was always a bright and cheerful girl. She tried her hardest even if work was tiring and unhealthy. She loves being around people and it’s very important to her to be liked. As one of the younger, smaller girls of her family, she grew up protected and cared for, despite the harsh conditions her family lived in. She’s optimistic and brave, easily accepting and adapting in most situations. She can be a little sheltered or naive, having never really seen anything of the world but the factory and her house.

However, the trauma she went through when the Reavers hit her ship has her massively unhinged and broken. While still generally kind and trying hard to be optimistic, her love for people has turned into a sickly co-depedence and intense fear of being alone. She doesn’t feel safe anywhere, which leads to moodswings between clingy neediness or reckless abandon. She’s vulnerable and alone, and every impression can wrap her one way or another now. In a sense, she’s a paper scrapped clean, the blood washing any sort of upbringing away, and all that she will see from now on will shape her into what she will become anew.

THERE IS NO NEWS, THERE IS ONLY THE TRUTH OF THE SIGNAL.

I.

In her dreams, Somni will remember Beaumonde as a living machine. The smoke and the blue lightning strikes piercing through the sky, the light dancing over her mother’s face. How the city never slept, the gears always turning turning turning. The people and the gears, always in sync, always moving. She remembers the ashes, swirling through the air like snow, like falling stars.

II.

In her dreams, Sonmi remembers the people. Her mother, ash smudges on her face, hair tied back, tired eyes. Her father, missing three fingers from the accident before she was born, still strong when he hugged her. Cousins and aunts, all together in the small house, how it was always so lively. The noise from the gears grunting with the giggles of the baby. The red moon against the blue washing of the lightning, sharing a soda during breaks. A dinner table taking most of the room. Always, always, everyone saying we’ve got mouths to feed. Always more mouths and always less food. Always a little void in her belly unfilled. More than the void, she wants to remember everything that was filled, every little bit of space taken, the weight of it in the hollows of her bones. So many names, so many smiles and eyes crinkling just ever so differently under the light. She needs to remember the names. She needs to remember them all.

No one else will.

III.

In her dreams, Sonmi remembers the factory. As long as she can remember, there is the factory. Blue Sun shining bright. She makes food, but there’s never enough of it in her own home. She slithers between the gears as they groan, cleaning them, keeping them working. Small spaces, so Sonmi fits best. Girls like her fit best. All day, the oil and the smell of food she can’t have, all day crawling in and out of gears. They don’t wait for anyone.

Neither does life, she knows now.

IV.

Grandmother falls ill. They all do, eventually. The ash and the smoke and the ever-turning gears, it’s not meant for people, says dad. It’s not meant for humans. He says, ages ago the whole world was theirs to rule, but now the machines do.

But father is strong and mother is smart, and there are many planets now. On one of them, surely humans still rule the world. Sonmi wonders what lies beyond the smoke and the lightning.

More darkness, she knows now.

V.

Mother and father can only pay two fares, but Sonmi is small and agile, thin from the work and the lack of food. She curls up in the suitcase and it’s like a game. She was always best at hide and seek. There is a hidden board they carve in their room and for the next two weeks, that will be Sonmi’s home. Two weeks, and then she’ll feel the sunshine and the rain, and breathe air clear like the sterilized water they use to clean the cogs. Mother promised her candy, a real dress. It won’t get dirty anymore, after all, not in Persephone. Everything’s clean there.

VI.

In her nightmares, she’ll remember the kitchen, the sound not like the creaking of metal but like a rat scratching its way through, scratching, scratching, scratching, until the metal gives, until it rips open like a gut, spilling out oil and stars like guts.

VII.

In her nightmares she doesn’t run, she sits still like an object, weightless in space, her bones just a frame around an empty thing. She is a ghost, a wasteland planet, quiet and unnoticed. The Reavers don’t see her, but he sees them. They make noises that sound like laughter, grating like screeching gears. It’s louder than her heartbeat, it’s louder than everything she is at all. Everything aboard is screaming, screeching, shrieking, but Sonmi is quiet. She is quiet when they pierce her father to the wall, when the same spear pierces her shoulder. Not a sound now, not a breath.

VIII.

Her mother’s bloody body twitches above her, but if she doesn’t think about that, she can think of the grate that no one knows about. Her legs are crushed, bones like glass peaking out in places, like they don’t want to be confined to her skin anymore. Nothing wants to stay confined. Her father is screaming, they’re eating his arm. Sonmi eats chicken the way they eat arms, but she can’t giggle about that now. There’s a grate. They haven’t seen her yet, not really, they haven’t dragged her across the room like they did with the others. She thinks that might mean something. She thinks about the grate, mostly, every little detail of it carved like scars in her mind.

IX.

And then stillness is the universe. Then a void, a distance between her and everything else in the world, like a star in an ever-expanding galaxy of darkness. Then they are gone.

X.

It’s just a nightmare. It’s just a nightmare. She doesn’t have to tell this story like she was in it. She doesn’t have to remember the screaming like it washed over her. She doesn’t have to taste the blood. It’s just a nightmare. She’ll wake up.

Any second now, she’ll wake up.
