Vended - S/T
Being the child of a famous musician has to be hard, especially if you’re going into music as well, because no matter what type of music you make, you’ve got both the reputation of your parent(s) preceding you, as well as living in their shadow, so to speak. No matter what, you’ll be compared to them, but it makes sense if you’re in the same genre. Take Vended and their self-titled debut album for example, which just came out recently. These guys are partially composed of sons of two Slipknot members, Corey Taylor and Shawn Crahan. Their sons, Griffin and Simon, are picking up the torch, and it’s both a blessing and a curse that they’re basically Slipknot 2.
Just one look at them, and you can see that their whole gimmick is Slipknot, but I have to give them credit — they make it work very well. I didn’t like debut EP from 2021, as it felt too much like Slipknot and that whole 00s nu-metal / heavy metal scene, so I was cautious optimistic for their debut album. I gotta say, it’s actually really cool, albeit still leaning into their influences (and their dads) just a bit. It’s not enough, however, to where it’s a clear rip-off, because it’s not. You can’t even really call this nu-metal, but it has elements of it.
Instead this album pulls from a lot of different sounds and ideas, and it becomes a smorgasbord of metal and heavy music, versus being a straightforward nu-metal album or groove metal. Everyone sounds great, and it makes sense that Griffin Taylor sounds like his father, because that’s how genetics work, but he doesn’t sound too much like him, either. He isn’t doing a Corey Taylor impression, and I’m quite impressed by that, actually. I also really love how short this album is, because it’s only 37 minutes, so it never stays beyond its welcome. It feels like the perfect length, and its replay value is really high for that.
I’m not going to say it just yet, because I’ve only given the album a handful of listens, but this album could be on my album of the year list. Give it some time, and some more listens, but I could see it there. I haven’t listened to a lot of new music in the last few months that I’ve truly loved, which isn’t to say that nothing’s come out that I’ve enjoyed, but I’ve also been focusing on a few older albums. This is the first new album that I’ve really enjoyed, but it also really surprised me. I didn’t think I’d enjoy this as much as I do, but I really enjoy this thing. They aren’t a Slipknot clone when they could have easily phoned it in, but they’re doing something interesting, so I’m excited to see where their career goes from here.

Griffin Taylor - Vocals for Vended
Super friendly guy! :) I met him while at a local punk show. It was in a skate shop in the middle of a mall. We conversed over music and I told him he reminded me of a skin/sharp. He told me he was in a band and was going on tour with Avenged Sevenfold and Poppy. I completely disregarded it haha. He told me that while touring in Europe he shaved his hair because it started to dread and couldn't put up with it. He pulls it off well.

Vended, The Cathouse Glasgow, 29th may 2024-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vended is a nu metal or alternatively, hard rock duo that was formed in 2018 and is a band consisting of Singer, Griffin Taylor and drummer Simon Crahan from Iowa in the US, who are then joined by bassist Jeremiah Pugh, and guitarists Cole Espeland and Connor Grodzicki when on tour. Vended released their first track "Asylum" on the 21st of september 2021 which is still their most streamed and most popular songs along with tracks "ded to me" and "Nihilism". Vended first ever live gig was during march in 2020. The bands music has been described as intense and energising, personally seeing them live was a powerful experience with an almost ripple like effect of vigor running through the crowd the entire time from start to finish, and i belive seeing vended play at least once should be a bucket list item for all metalheads and heavy music enjoyers everywhere!!

The band consisting of the children of nu-metal legends Shawn “Clown” Crahan and Corey Taylor (Simon and Griffin respectively), Vended are finally dropping their first album!
The first single from the album to drop was “Am I The Only One”, bass like a live wire, a seductive otherworldly melodic vocals sprinkled between the barked chorus, it makes you feel things, my only ‘Knot comparison is the chaotic nature, like a little journey of its own. It’s insanity how much Griffin Taylor sounds like his Dad Corey, “The Far Side” vocally is like early Stone Sour vs early Slipknot, no DNA test needed there at all, musically it’s more nu-metal carnage, but I can’t deny it I can’t not compare it to Slipknot, I’m sorry lads but it just does sound so similar in style! NOT COMPLAINING because I love it but I can’t not point that one out in particular. “Nihilism” came 3rd, clean and unclean duet for a chorus, a tasty extended breakdown, gnarly drum rolls, it’s the most Slipknot sounding track so far but nobody cares they’re incredible at this style like they were born into it, heh. “Serenity” was the last single to drop, it’s got a big thumping riff and a menacing sickly sweet clean chorus, the whole thing just gets bigger and more explosive and magnificent. “Downfall” takes the chyna symbol and smashes it repeatedly over your head, I love that, it’s a lot more playful and is only a couple minutes long so is a short blast.
It’s a great debut album, however that being said I think for album number 2 I am hopeful they will put a touch more distance between them and the Slipknot label BUT only a touch. We must be close to the Knot retiring its been such a long time, I always pray it won’t happen but one day it will, and even then the doubters of Vended will be extraordinarily grateful that they decided to take that style of music and carried the torch on into the next generation, let it never EVER die.
