🌌✨The Empyreal Within character designs of Lotor, Allura, and Ven'tar! I might do Honerva and Zarkon next, we'll see! This is part of an upcoming project that I am super excited about and will reveal in time!!! 💜
Explanations of the outfits below! I thought about them a LOT hehe.
18 year old Lotor: these designs I am the most pleased with! Lotor's official design in the show is very different from the rest of the Galra, which I believe is significant to him venturing further away from the precedents established by his father and cementing his own individuality. However, as an adolescent it makes sense that he would still wear Galra attire, hence the bulky armor (to make him look bigger since he is smaller than the average Galra) and red and gold colors which appear to only be worn by the royal family. I like to think that the insignia on his chest is a symbol for royalty, but is also exclusive to Lotor's identity, as no one else wears that particular insignia in the show. And despite wearing clothes specifically chosen to represent the Galra Empire, I can also picture him wanting to incorporate his own personal tastes, so there are accents of purplish-blue (as blue is part of Lotor's color scheme) and the addition of his waist cape, both of which represent his growing desire for change and independence.
Mid-20's Lotor: this is during the many years of his banishment. I imagine him hopping from planet to planet, concealing his identity as much as possible while adopting a more humble lifestyle and pursuing his passion for exploring. It is during this isolated pilgrimage that he does a lot of introspection, self-actualization, and gains self-confidence both as a man and as the Galra prince. But before that happens, the lack of identity really shows in his clothes -- lots of neutral colors (with a hint of desaturated blue), absence of any insignias or designs that would connect him to any culture, whether Galra or Altean. These clothes in particular were inspired by Jedi ponchos and Sasuke from Naruto: The Last, and perhaps are worn while Lotor is on a desert planet for a short time! And just like with his armor as seen in the show, he has started to wear gloves to cover himself up almost completely, indicating his avoidance of vulnerability and getting close to others.
Ven'tar: for her fortunately I didn't have to change much about her character design! She is Lotor's age when they meet and the only other change I made to her was to take away her big cape so that she appears younger. Since her planet and species name is not revealed in the show, I want to come up with one myself. Caelifera is the scientific name for grasshopper, so I'm thinking I could do something with that!
11 year old Lotor: this design is also taken directly from the show, so I didn't have to do much there :P The cloak he wears in the little doodle is inspired by the one adult Lotor wears in S6E4. In this case, however, it is several sizes too big for young Lotor and drags on the ground.
Allura: sadly we don't know much about Allura's life on Altea, however in S1E9 we get to see tiny snippets of different stages throughout her life and her good relationship with her father, so I used those as references! I gave her braids, short puffy sleeves, and a slightly shorter skirt to give her that innocent little princess look, and then used the colors from her dress in the show to create a cuter and more childlike aesthetic!
If you read all of that you're the best 😆🙏 I'm definitely by no means an expert in character design and have lots more to learn, but I had a lot of fun coming up with the original designs! Especially Lotor's, but no surprise there hehe. I studied many different Galra armor and clothing featured in the show worn by Lotor, Zarkon, Honerva, and Galra commanders. More than anything I just really wanted to see Lotor wearing something different for a change 😂 and then everything else took off from there!

Hello 👋 , may I ask why do you ship Lotor and Ven'tar (I love them💚💜)
I love them too. I guess the big reason is I feel not only is their dynamic mysterious but clearly successful.
Sorry I can't give you more than that at the moment.
P.S. happy New Years!

You probably already know about this, but i was reading an old post where you said how weird it is that Lotor and Keith are perfect narrative foils and I just wondered if you knew there was actually a reason for that? I think (as we can only speculate from what the people involved in the show said) that was by design. However as Shiro was a fan favourite and had unexpected popularity he was written back into the show earlier, despite the fact they had already storyboarded/written at least parts of s4 so they kind of replaced Keith with Shiro in s4 and sent Keith to the BOM. I feel like re-inserting keith back into the narrative though makes so much more sense in some scenes as it explains why some parts felt so *not* lead-up to and out of character and why a lot of loose ends weren’t tied off (Naxzela fallout, Keith being a hybrid never really developed, why the paladins never really mention Keith leaving to the BOM much, Shiro trusting Lotor after very little lead up and giving him the bayard which seems like a much more keith-ey instinctive thing to do, Keith & Lotor’s narrative foils and potential friendship as well as being a perfect way to get the audience to trust and like Lotor even more before his betrayal, Shiro being written suddenly as hot-headed and using Keith’s mannerisms, like his wall leaning thing etc)
There’s an interesting video that explains it a lot better here if you are interested: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iiFiVFxR_Q8
(Also to be clear absolutely no hate to anyone who made the show, it was still great.)
Also thanks so much for writing little blade! Your attention to detail in world building is amazing and really gives an extra depth to the story and makes it so engrossing.
As you say, we can only really speculate the ins and outs of why certain decisions were made and narrative directions taken, and honestly the fact that there's so much that we as fans simply don't know makes it really hard to comment, but ultimately, whatever the writer's reasoning for doing what they did,,, they messed up.
I'm not even saying this as someone who, obviously, loves Lotor blindly, but to use him as an example, his character arc didn't make sense; I can accept absolutely everything (alteans being used as batteries included) as a valid and narratively-supported exploration of his character up until his declaration that he wanted to commit genocide and wipe out the entire galra race,,, because that went against literally everything his character had been built upon. It wasn't a "twist" that served to prove he'd been pulling a long con, it was just... bad writing, plain and simple. Lotor, who'd been actively working to undermine everything his father had become, is ~revealed~ to want to commit the same atrocity that Zarkon did, just in reverse?? Lotor who begged on his knees for the lives of Ven'tar and her people- Lotor who was so gentle when talking to Allura about everything he'd lost in the past and everything he wished to build in the future- Lotor who was trying to create a second Voltron not as a weapon but rather as a means of supplying an endless source of clean energy for the Empire so that it would no longer have cause to devastate and destroy entire planets... that Lotor?
And look, here's the thing, so they'd planned to kill Shiro off only to be surprised that he was popular and so bring him back, fine, they had enough time to do that and do it well... but did they? Because frankly, Kuron got more dedicated screen time than "resurrected" Shiro, and all they really succeeded in doing was shove an obsolete character into a narrative that no longer had room for him, which was d e e p l y unsatisfying no matter how you slice it. I say this as someone who //adores// Shiro, and wanted nothing more than for him to be alive, but from an authorial perspective it felt deeply disingenuous and like an obvious after-thought. Not to mention, as that video says, "team voltron" didn't feel like a team at all, by the end—they barely knew each other let alone liked one another. Keith's ousting from the squad had so much potential from a "Kuron is a double-agent actively working to destabilise voltron" sort of way, but if they wanted that to work then there needed to be some recognition of what happened? Some apologies from the other paladins for never really fighting for Keith at all? Never understanding he was grieving not only Shiro but Regris too (sans, of everyone, Allura, who was the only person to actually recognise & acknowledge that Keith was in pain)?
Speaking of Allura, she's another character who suffered from what I can only assume was the writers repeatedly changing their minds on the direction of the story and simply shoving her into whatever box best fit. She & Keith at first seemed to be building something important, and while I'm not especially a kallura shipper, god, at least they had an actual foundation for a relationship (in whatever form) hard-won,,, having her throw herself at Lance, who she'd shown ZERO interest in before that point, immediately after her former lover (1) reveals he has a secret colony of her people that he's been using as living batteries, and (2) dIES RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER...? She should have been grieving, and //slowly// healing, but instead she jumps straight into a new relationship that the narrative treats as if it's some sort of epic yet tragically doomed romance rather than an ill-thought rebound?
It just.. it wasn't even a good plot, let alone a satisfying one.
Hunk was originally implied to be the beating heart of the group, except they gave him next to no screen-time only to realise in those last couple of seasons "shit, people are supposed to care about him, errr have a tragic family rescue mission". Lance was treated as a joke from day one, despite being set up to (I personally suspect) become Keith's right hand and emotional support in more than just battle. Keith himself was repeatedly given all the foundations for genuinely solid and satisfying plots only to never quite follow through in the end (learning to let down his walls, to trust, to love- until the entire team casts him out never to apologise for it and only takes him back when they lose their replacement once more / becoming a confident leader and Shiro's successor only for it to be undermined and then thrown back together again when convenient / finding and building a relationship with his mother, except they speed-ran it in one montage and had Krolia leave again soon after).
Truthfully, Pidge is probably the only core character who managed to come out at the end with what felt like a properly concluded arc.
#this is low-key a rant post but also a genuine critique#beyond this I don't want to dwell on canon's ultimate direction tbh let's just let sleeping dogs lie shall we?#sa screams back#the author speaks

Would Lotor have ended up with Merla at the end of Voltron?
--------------------------------------
Summery: in the original story, Lotor is married of to a pinning woman named Merla by order of Zarkon. Merla does exist in Legendary defender so taking this and Lotor's psychology and personality into consideration, would they gave been end game?
--------------------------------------
This is an odd question In and of itself and one I don't have a definitive awnser to, however I do find it fascinating enough to consider.
Let's start with explaining the existence of Merla In the Voltron universe.
Original Merla (to my knowledge) first appeared in season 2 of Voltron: Defender of The Universe. She is portrayed with pink hair and light blue skin (there may be a purple tint to her skin depending on the series)
She is a character who appears seemingly out of nowhere as explained by Haggar and brings with her a legendary group of physic women known as the Muses of Norn. She then begins Pining for Lotor in the series however, these actions may have some ulterior motives to them.
Merla is an queen all her own, having conquered and built up an empire herself, her primary capital (planet) is unnamed and men are forbidden to step foot on it. Haggar is fond of her and it's not surprising considering Merla has some supernatural power of her own. Like Narti, Merla can control minds and have a bonded animal companion (Merla has a bird). That being said her power is not as powerful as Narti's but does have its own upside. Merla can't fully control a person's actions, more so, she can plant suggestions in their mind. But she benefits where Narti's power falters in that she does not have to physically touch her victims for her power to work.
And finally, personality wise, she's nothing to write home about. "Merla is sophisticated, snooty, often petty, power hungry and determined to get what she wants by any means. While not as blatantly cruel as Zarkon or Lotor, she’s not a nice person; most people are pawns or obstacles to her. She also enjoys humiliating those she dislikes and uses her powers to do so." A statement taken from a wonderful Voltron fan account on Tumbler who goes further in depth to the character's behavior and understanding.
And cruel she is. Humiliating Lotor, alienating everyone except Zarkon (who's caught the feels) insulting Haggar's appearance and powers, attempting to kill and torture Allura, ect. As stated by "The Voltron Fandom Hag" she does soften quite a bit by the end of the series and even alies with the Voltron Force to save Lotor after she finds he is to be executed (this is due to her growng love for him) Eventually Merla does succeed I'm marrying Lotor, however, the marriage is annulled soon after.
--------------------------------------
Now Original Merla doesn't seem like anyone VLD Lotor would have an infatuation with. But remember she does exist in Legendary Defender as a much nicer person.
Vld Merla first appeared in season 8 episode 2 when we see Honerva's path from Priestess to Empress and her motives behind her actions.
Her features have been heavily changed (similarly with what was done with haggar) and she is now Altean with a slight redder tint to her hair, tan skin and violet eyes. She has a particular fondness to Lotor (for being the savior) and Honerva (for being his mother). She's fiercely loyal, respectful, stronghearted, and has good instincts, recognizing immediately upon Lotor's return that something is wrong. Eventually by the end of the series Merla redeems herself and even earns her place as Coran's Royal Adviser once he's taken the throne.
This version of Merla is not only a good person with a personal love for Lotor, but she also has qualities that are similar to Allura and Lotor's other love interest in the series, Ven'tar. That being said, while I loved the romantic relationship between Lotor and Allura, I couldn't help the idea that perhaps this relationship wasn't as healthy as it actually could be. The reason being, did Lotor actually love Allura in that regard, or did he think he did when in actually she was simply connected to something he had always wanted, the alteans.
It wouldn't be false to say Lotor has chased after everything having to do with Altea and his mother, which only worsened as his animosity with his father and his people grew. This leads me to believe that while Allura is a wonderful person and has many qualities Lotor would find attractive, she may not actually be someone he'd pine for if he had the ability (and sanity) to choose. This makes me question if the altean's were never genocided nor was his mother deceased, would he have chosen Merla? Naturally so considering that allura would have been an adult by the time of his birth, but we're not gonna take that into consideration right now.
Personally, I'd say Merla is a perfect match for Lotor, given the examples and information in the post, but despite that, I don't really have an awnser to give other than my own opinion. This is why I feel this post to be more debatable than anything. There is no groundbreaking proof of my argument while there's also not much (to my research) that could debunk it. It's mainly an opinionated point that can be debated or agreed upon but never considered true or false. So my question stands. If he hadn't died, would Lotor have ended up with Merla and the end of Voltron?
--------------------------------------
Extra: This post isn't my best, but I still hope you enjoyed it.🖤💜❤️✨️

Lotor for the character ask
Hi Anon! Thank you for the Ask!
I'll go with VLD Lotor, though I could do this for all of his iterations.
1. First impression:
Relieved and amused.
I never much liked DotU Lotor for a variety of complex reasons, though I found him amusing in the made-for-US season of DotU that had Merla in it. Voltron 3rd Dimension and Voltron Force doubled-down on the worst ideas for the character, so I was hoping that he'd never show up in VLD. The cliff-hanger in S2 had me anxious because I really didn't want to see another round of stalker space barbarian.
VLD S3 had a great introduction for him, honestly the best intro for all iterations of his character, including the comics. It was easy to see that he wouldn't be another gross stalker space barbarian and that was a relief.
2. Impression now:
(#`д´)ノ Salty.
No thanks S6, S7, S8. What a waste.
3. Favorite moment:
The chase flight when Zarkon is hunting him down.
4. Idea for a story:
How Lotor and Narti met.
5. Unpopular opinion:
I can't think of any
6. Favorite relationship:
Lotor x Happiness
(and of course Lotura, Shotor, and Shotura)
7. Favorite headcanon:
That Lotor and Ven'tar had a relationship and it was a pretty damn good one until Zarkon came along.

VLD S8E2: Shadows
Season 8 Episode 2: Shadows
Transcript by @dragonofyang
Summary: In a series of flashbacks, we learn about Honerva’s history with Lotor and Zarkon across the centuries. We follow her from the events of Season 6 until the present as she looks for Lotor, mixed in with flashbacks of Lotor’s childhood.
[Google Doc]
[Open on a flashback from Season 6, then Honerva transports away from Lotor and his generals to the bridge of the ship.]
Honerva (as Haggar): Commander Mar, the emperor has been taken. The Voltron Paladins have betrayed him. Track him down and return him to me.
Mar: Vrepit Sa.
[Scene change to Honerva in her alchemy chamber.]
Honerva (as Haggar): Have you any word from Commander Mar?
Macidus: Nothing, High Priestess. Communication with Commander Mar has been lost.
Honerva (as Haggar): What of Emperor Lotor’s whereabouts?
Macidus: Still unknown.
[Scene change to Honerva back on the bridge at the ruins of Daibazaal where Kova waits hidden in the debris, then transition to a flashback of Honerva with Zarkon while Kova watches.]
Zarkon: I don’t see anything. Can it be true? I am to be a father?
Honerva: Yes.
Zarkon: And you, my queen, will be the mother to the heir of the Galra throne.
Honerva: Yes. There is much to do. First, we must continue to harvest the quintessence. It will be needed for your son’s empire.
Zarkon: He will be the best of both our people.
[Flashback ends to return to Honerva at the bridge, this time with Kova at her side as they overlook Daibazaal.]
Honerva: I will find you, my son.
[Scene change to Honerva’s alchemy chamber once more.]
Macidus: High Priestess, I am sorry to disturb you.
Honerva (as Haggar): Have you located Emperor Lotor?
Macidus: We still have not been able to ascertain any information regarding Emperor Lotor, Commander Mar, or Voltron. It has been phoebs since Emperor Lotor disappeared. The empire is in a state of chaos. The Blade of Marmora still challenges. We need a strong leader. The druids look to you, High Priestess.
Honerva (as Haggar): Tell them to look elsewhere. The druids are but ash in the winds of infinity. Let them be led by someone of equal esteem.
Macidus: Priestess…
Honerva (as Haggar): Depart my presence.
[Flashback to Honerva and Zarkon in the royal bedchamber.]
Zarkon: What shall we name the boy?
Honerva: I was thinking a name that has deep Altean history. Lotarious.
Zarkon: Lotarious?
Honerva: He was one of the ancient Alteans believed to have established much of the foundation of the engineering that built our world.
Zarkon: Interesting. I was considering a name from mythology. Kaltor. But he did not build the worlds, he conquered them.
Honerva: Perhaps we can honor both traditions.
[Scene change back to the alchemy chamber, where Honerva kneels.]
Guard: High Priestess, apologies. I was ordered to notify you when Commander Mar returned.
Honerva (as Haggar): What happened to him?
Drick: I found him like this, near death.
Honerva (as Haggar): What does he know?
Drick: His vitals are weak. He has yet to regain consciousness. We may never find out what he knows.
Honerva (as Haggar): There may be a way. Leave. Do you have news of the emperor?
Mar: Yes. I located Lotor’s generals.
Honerva (as Haggar): Where are they?
Mar: They… they attacked me and took over my ship, leaving me stranded.
Honerva (as Haggar): And what of the emperor? And what of the emperor?
Mar: The generals said Emperor Lotor accessed the Quintessence Field.
Honerva (as Haggar): He pierced the veil.
Mar: But then Voltron attacked. The fight ended. There was an explosion. Lotor and Voltron perished.
Honerva (as Haggar): No… No. I must find him. Call forth the Kral Zera.
[Flashback to just after Zarkon and Honerva’s “deaths” in the rift.]
Honerva: Who… who are you?
Zarkon: You do not recognize your emperor?
Honerva: Who… am I?
Zarkon: Where am I?
Guard: Aboard your ship, sir.
Zarkon: Take us home.
Guard: I can’t, sir. Daibazaal has been destroyed.
Zarkon: Get a doctor to this room immediately.
Haggar: Excuse me, my empress. I just need to--what are you doing? I need you to let go of me. Please! Let go!
Guard: Haggar! Haggar, can you hear me? Haggar, answer me! Oh, no. Help! Send help now!
Honerva: Haggar…
[Flash forward to Honerva-as-Haggar laying in bed after Lotor’s birth.]
Doctor: Sire, the birth was difficult but successful. Your son is healthy and in good shape, though we seem to be getting some strange readings coming from him directly. Similar to those that, well, similar to those of the empress and yourself.
Medic: Your son, sire.
Zarkon: Take him away.
Medic: But--
Zarkon: I said take him away! And what of her?
Doctor: I’m sorry, sire. We have her under constant watch, but she remains in this state. She only seems to become aware when we administer her quintessence. I’m hopeful her condition will improve with time, but, sire, we’re going to have to face the fact that our quintessence supplies are finite. The empire cannot continue to run on what we have. And you and the empress… without it, you’ll--
Zarkon: Give me the room. Do you know who I am?
Haggar: You are emperor.
Zarkon: And you?
Haggar: Ha… Haggar?
Zarkon: Do you know of quintessence?
Haggar: Quintessence.
Zarkon: Can you find me quintessence?
Haggar: Yes, my emperor.
[Flash forward to Feyiv, where Galra ships gather for the next Kral Zera.]
Drick: I am lighting the flame. Bow now, and your allegiance will be remembered.
Galra Officer: My fleet would crush yours in an instant, raining fire and death upon you and your clansmen. What makes you think I would ever bow to you?
Drick: Because I have the witch’s favor.
Galra Officer: It matters not. Power rules absolute.
Drick: I invite you to challenge me once the ceremony has begun. A display of the witch’s magic will bolster my claim as nothing else could.
Second Galra Officer: The Archivist!
Galra Officer: And your witch is nowhere to be found.
Honerva: This flame represents Lotor, son of Zarkon, prince turned emperor, emperor that pierced the veil. And my Altean blood coursed through his veins, but the Galra Empire failed him. It was the Galra blood, deeply boiled in traditions of evil, that tainted him. Your ways weakened a god.
Drick: That treacherous witch!
Honerva: The empire is weak. And now, I will end it.
Galra Officer: What’s this?
[Flashback to the Galra Command Center’s throne room, where a young Lotor stands before his father with a Dayak.]
Zarkon: Dayak, update me on the prince’s progress.
Dayak: Yes, sire. Prince Lotor completed the Agotian Trials as you requested. He was successful, even though they were advanced for his age.
Zarkon: What else?
Dayak: His physical stature is below expectation for the blood lineage of the Galra royalty, but his tactical scores are the highest we’ve ever measured.
Lotor: All I do, I do in the name of Galra. Father, there’s a question I’ve been wanting to ask you.
Dayak: Greatest apologies, sire. This one should not be speaking out of place.
Zarkon: Proceed.
Lotor: I would like to know about my mother. Please, Father, what happened to her?
Zarkon: I will tell you this and no more. She was my only weakness, but now she is gone.
Lotor: What was her name? What was she like?
Zarkon: Enough.
Lotor: Please, Father, I must know who I come from.
Zarkon: I said enough! If you do not remove his impurities, then I will find a Dayak that can.
Dayak: He will be punished accordingly. We will sear him down to his inner fire so that he may burn the universe. Vrepit Sa!
[Flash forward to Honerva, returning to Daibazaal after the Kral Zera.]
Honerva: My son.
[Flash back to Zarkon’s throne room, with a preteen Lotor at his side.]
Guard: Sire, your audience is requested in the Kandar wing.
Lotor: Father, may I accompany you?
Zarkon: You will stay here.
Lotor: But I want to join you. I have learned much of our--
Zarkon: You are an insolent boy. You may be the prince, but I am your emperor.
Haggar: Do not touch him. He will hurt you.
Lotor: What is his name?
Haggar: He has no name.
Lotor: Then I shall name it. Your name will be…
Honerva: --only Kova.
Haggar: Kova. His name is Kova.
Lotor: This creature pleases me. It will be mine.
Haggar: My lord…
Lotor: You may be the high priestess, but I am your prince, and you will do as I say. Isn’t that right, Kova?
Haggar: Yes, my lord.
[Flash forward to Honerva arriving at the first Altean colony.]
Merla: What are you doing here? Answer me.
Honerva: I am Honerva of the planet Altea.
Merla: That is impossible. Altea was destroyed over ten thousand years ago.
Honerva: A powerful portent that is shared with the birth of my son, Lotor.
Merla: Lotor’s mother?
Honerva: Lotor is gone.
Merla: How did he die?
Honerva: Voltron. To all of you who believed in my son so justly, your faith will be rewarded. I have come here today to continue my son’s mission and for that, I need you all.
Luca: We are your humble servants as will be the members of our sister colony once we inform them of the news. Do you know of their whereabouts?
Honerva: Unfortunately, they have also fallen to the evils of Voltron. Voltron and the Galra will pay for what they have done. With your help, I will resurrect my son’s dream.
Merla: We pledge our allegiance to you, Honerva, mother of Lotor.
[Flash forward to Honerva’s ship flying toward the white hole that hides Oriande.]
Honerva: This ancient land was created through powerful magic. Alteans would travel here to learn the secrets of our race. We have a long and difficult road ahead of us, but our path is true.
Merla: We will do anything to bring Lotor back.
Honerva: I know.
Merla: The acolytes have worked tirelessly. The prototype is ready.
Honerva: Excellent work. Find me the most faithful amongst us.
Merla: Yes, my queen.
[Flashback to Lotor’s colony planet, where the Galra Command Center orbits as it’s constructed.]
Ven’tar: Are you nervous?
Lotor: No, Ven’tar. This is my chance to finally make a difference, to show my father what we are capable of.
Zarkon: Update me on your progress.
Lotor: Our quintessence yields are some of the highest in the empire, and we’ve been more efficient than any other. By working alongside the denizens of this planet, like Ven’tar here, we’ve outsourced--
Zarkon: You dare work with this pitiful race as if they are your equals?
Lotor: It is working. We have outpaced even the most generous projections.
Zarkon: The heir to the Galra throne should not sully our honor by working with his subjects!
Lotor: It is the way my mother’s people would have done things. You thought I couldn’t find out about my own mother? About her people? You thought you destroyed every remnant of Altea, but you cannot unless you destroy your own son, as well!
Zarkon: Enough! You are to crush this planet beneath your heel!
Lotor: Never!
Zarkon: Then I will!
Lotor: You wouldn’t. You can’t! Father, wait! No, please do not do this, Father. Do not make these people suffer for my actions.
Zarkon: It is already done.
Lotor: I will do as you ask. The people will serve the Galra. No… No!
Zarkon: You are hereby banished from the empire. Forced to live out the remainder of your days remembering your failure here.
Lotor: Have you nothing to say, witch? Surely even you can see the folly of your master’s actions.
[Flash forward to Honerva as Haggar on the bridge of her ship.]
Honerva (as Haggar): Commander Sendak.
Sendak: the Lions of Voltron have arrived as you suspected. Shall I capture them for you, High Priestess?
Honerva (as Haggar): No. Destroy them.
Sendak: Vrepit Sa.
Honerva: Voltron has been found. It is time to test our first Altean acolyte.
[Flash forward to Honerva standing before the Alteans, lined by mechs on either side.]
Honerva: Today, the light of the universe shines inside our most brave. The dream of life is realized through her actions. For Luca the first acolyte, we shine in Lotor’s bright luminescence!
Luca: Voltron will pay for what they have done.
Honerva: May the light guide you. Rise and avenge my son.
End.

@mermaider00, I wanted to thank you again for standing up for Loturas and also blocking the anti who has been harassing and stalking us, even though that person was a supporter in your Ventor fandom. That really meant a lot to me and to others as well. So I wrote a little something for you, as a gift in thanks! It’s my hand at a bit of a Lotor and Ven’tar drabble, haha. I do hope you like it! <3
The Beginning of It All - A Lotor and Ven’tar Drabble
Her voice was a soft warble. “What is that from?”
Prince Lotor of the Galra Empire looked up from his desk, his brow in a puzzle of distraction, his white hair in a disheveled twist about his shoulders. His eyes followed the point of her finger, which aimed at his wrist. And then he looked away, back down at his datapad. “You are very observant, Lady Ven’tar.” His voice strained. “To see such a scar.”
The alien woman clasped her thin hands together before her. Her little antennas atop her head twitched with an anxiety. “I am sorry,” she said softly. “I should not ask.”
Lotor hesitated in his work. He swallowed down a hard emotion as he turned up his palm, the white scar on his wrist snaking up, beyond his sleeve. “There is no shame in curiosity.” His eyes flickered to her, searching her with an increasing emotion. “If you must know, it came from my father, for whom I am forced to...” His voice caught strangely and fell flat. “...work.”
Lady Ven’tar’s big, wide eyes held his gaze for the first time, in surprise.
His own eyes began to mist. Despite his violent Galran history and upbringing, the man appeared as a glass statute. Frail. Cracked. He looked back down, his shoulders bowing in. His breath caught strangely, and he said, voice halted, “Apologies.” He shakily hid his hand, hiding it under the table.
The woman’s perceptive gaze followed his actions, and her head tilted. Her pretty features saddened. “Ah. I see now.”
“What is it that you see?” he asked, not looking up.
“You are of the Munya,” she declared softly.
His misted, blue eyes rose back up to her. “...The Munya?”
“Yes. The Galrans who suffer with us.” For the first time in their interactions, the woman managed a weak smile. “There are others like you, in the ranks of your people. Very sad. Many scars.”
The prince did not speak for a time. “Why afford us your sympathy?” he asked, velvet voice tightening. “I do not liberate you, for fear of my father and my own life, just as these other soldiers fear as well.” His voice dropped into a dreary mumble. “If any of them truly exist.”
Lady Ven’tar delicately unclasped her hands and began to dust her modest sleeve. Her voice lifted in a lighter warble. “It is difficult to stand alone. The power of the Ultoo bug is not in the Ultoo, but in the hive.”
That stiffened his shoulders. “…Then you speak treason,” he whispered. His white brows furrowed. “You would speak of uniting such soldiers, raising a rebellion. To me, the son of your oppressor who yet commands you?”
She gave him a wide, airy look.
The Galran prince managed a weak huff, almost incredulous. He blinked rapidly. “Do you realize, Lady Ven’tar, the punishments you could accrue if my father heard such talk?”
She asked lightly, her voice a stronger warble, “How would your father hear if you do not tell him?”
Lotor hesitated again, searching her wide and innocent eyes to see there was great calculation in her. And knowledge.
There was a heavy silence between them, with punishment and death in the balance.
After several ticks, Lotor raised his scarred hand back up, resting it upon the desk. He leaned forward, vulnerable with hope. “We are surrounded. My father demands quintessence deliveries every three quintants, or I receive punishment as well. You speak of…Munya Galrans, but for however many may like to overthrow my father, there are thousands more who would slit our throats in his name alone. How would such a rebellion even begin?”
The beautiful woman smiled then, for the first time, laughing at him with her eyes, almost affectionate. “Fearful Prince, it already has.”

My first published contribution to the Voltron: Legendary Defenders fandom! I love Ventor so much, this particular scene comes from the fantastic fanfiction “Dreamless” (Ao3) written by @mermaider00. Made me cry so hard, the water in the pic is actually a pool made of my own tears lol. Also forgive the bad quality, Tumblr won’t upload the full hd file... weak.

Heyo! So, less of a question, but I just wanted to say that your fic has officially become my go-to whenever I need some delicious Good!Lotor in my life. Like just the other day I started thinkin how dirty canon did him and had to reread your fic to make me feel better. Oh! heres a question (tho you may address it in LB, but...): what are your thoughts on Canon's Haggar/honerva redemption where as lotor was last scene as a melted blob? I could sorely use some Lotor defense rn....
(⁄ ⁄>⁄‿ ⁄<⁄ ⁄) ahhhhhhhh that's very sweet of you to say, tysm my love!! Lotor honestly deserved so much better than canon ultimately gave him, so I am happy to be of service ♡
As for condemned!Lotor vs redeemed!Honerva....................... I have gone OFF on this topic several times before and it drives me absolutely mad every damn time because,,, like,,,,,, what a fucking joke?? So the abused child was, yes, willing to sacrifice the few to save the many, but in wHAT FUCKING WORLD IS THAT WORSE THAN HAGGAR WHO EXPERIMENTED / TORTURED / KILLED FOR PERSONAL GAIN AND ALSO CREATED THE KOMAR?
R E A L L Y
I don't think I can surmise my distaste for this particular Choice™ any more concisely than I did in the tags of a post from three years ago:
#here's a complaint I have from canon: you're telling me that little star-explorer Lotor- #-who did everything he could to work //with// the people of Ven'tar's planet rather than subjugate them as Zarkon wanted- #-failed at Oriande.. while Haggar succeeded? H a g g a r #I don't CARE that she used to be Honerva or that she retrieved her memories of that time before entering Oriande #the last trial was presented as one designed to unveil the participants' moral disposition.. and you want to tell me that it found: #''I will work alongside the people and beg my father on my knees to spare them'' Lotor #somehow a //worse person// than ''I designed the Komar turned Naxzela into a bomb and enjoy experimenting on conscious beings'' Haggar #...........nah
#//do not// what they did to my boy was an abomination#not to mention the way canon essentially doubled down on the ''you will inevitably become your abuser'' narrative-#-by having Lotor ultimately declare he wanted to kill the entire galra race.. what the hell were they THINKING#canon and I are not friends#Ao3 Little Blade#sa screams back#the author speaks#prince lotor

To My Anonymous Asker:
I got an ask from you wondering what my Voltron ships are. I honestly don't know what happened but the ask was gone when I checked again and I can't figure out what to do to get it back so if you come across my page again these are the answers to your ask. I'm sorry it took so long, thank you for having an interest in my blog and me.
-----------------------------------
My OTPS: Zaggar/Zonerva, Kaxca, Allurance
LGBTQIA+: Lunk, Adam/Curtis/Shiro, Zethred/Ezor, Allura/Romelle, Veronacxa, Klance (but only a little bit)
Rare Pairs: Romelle/James, Haggar/Raht, Tavo/Merla
Other: Lotor/Ven'tar, Lotor/Allura, Allura/Kolivan
---------------------------
Over all I'm relatively comfortable with most of the ships in the series but these are just the ones I think of the most.

It was my pleasure to be partnered with @astrodances for this year’s @galrabigbang! Their fic takes place in a delightful reality in which, at the point where Zarkon decides to destroy Ven’tar’s planet, Lotor is able to rescue his friend and flee the Empire. I chose to illustrate a pivotal scene where, on their quest to find a way to bring down the Emperor, they discover the slumbering Castle of Lions...
As the group spread out to inspect their surroundings, Acxa took to the console to try to activate it, with Narti hovering over her shoulder. Yet as the rest of them gazed about, a pneumatic hiss sounded, and they jumped around to see the two center-most platforms opening. A pair of pods rose from them amid a burst of frost, leaving the room in silent awe.
"Cryo-pods," Lotor breathed. With two silhouettes lurking within. It...it can't be...
He dared to make the first move, walking over to the left pod while Ven'tar took to the other, Kova peering curiously around their ankles. As the condensation from the glass cleared, Lotor's mouth fell open in astonishment.
The fic is called Emperor of a New Dawn by AstroPhantom on AO3; please do check it out!
