Day 2 - Roots

Morgana is extremely close with her parents and paternal grandparents. As an only child & grandchild, she's certainly never been starved for care or attention, and makes sure to keep in contact even on her more grand adventures.

She's holds nothing but contempt for her maternal grandfather, and has only had the displeasure of engaging with him on a handful of occasions. However, she and her mother make regular visits each year to the grave where her maternal grandmother is buried.

From Esperanto, "Libereco" meaning "Liberty", shortened to "Liberec". Coined by Gent (Gender-Jargon) in June 2024.

Liberec is loosely related to Liberique (link) [PT: Liberique ./. End PT], coined by tumblr user Mogai-Archive in August 2014. The concept of liberty is key to both identities, but the similarities end there. Liberec shares some qualities with Maverique and Alithix.

Liberec experiences can vary greatly from individual to individual, but every Liberec individual embodies a sense of freedom from all oppressive entities that effect their personal experience.

Elements that are essential to the identity include:

a sense of self that feels free from control, interference, obligation, restriction or other hampering condition imposed upon one's. experience and/or identity in any regard

...a sense of self that is free of kyriarchial prescriptions.

Pride Flag

Serperea

Unified by their long, snake-like bodies and atrophied limbs, these were originally classified as Pseudoconchs due to their heavily reduced internal shells. However, after the primitive Snail-Snakes were discovered in Maari, the ancestry of Serperea became clear, and they were reclassified as Euconchs. DNA testing has since shown that they are actually a very old lineage despite their unusual features.

Snail-Snakes:

Pictured: the arboreal snail boa, native to the South Maari island.

These incredible evolutionary holdovers are the sister group to all other Serperea species. Presumably, shelled snakes once lived around the world, but were likely outcompeted by modern shell-less snakes. In the isolated environment of Maari, however, the snail-snakes were able to thrive with no competition. They are relatively small and feed on Hexapods, scuttlers, and young Bounders, and are preyed upon by Maari Terrors and Acualata species.

Labyrinth Snakes:

Pictured: the fringed canopy snake, native to the labyrinth forests of the Ejoan Archipelago.

Highly specialized to live in labyrinth forests, these creatures have long bodies and stubby legs for crawling between the intertwining trunks and thick foliage overhead. They feed on a combination of plant matter, Hexapods, and sapsuckers. Although labyrinth forests are home to a variety of animals, two out of three species found in these unique environments are labyrinth snakes.

Wyrms:

Pictured: the little grass worm, a very common species on the Noxa Savanna.

The most diverse lineage of Serperea, this genus includes everything from small omnivores to anaconda-sized predators. These long, slender creatures can be found on every continent except Amki. Unlike the snakes of Earth, they retain stubby limbs which helps them move around, centipede-like. Although most are small and relatively harmless omnivores, the larger species can pose a threat to Doulori and humans alike, and are best treated with a great deal of respect.

Groundsnakes:

Pictured: the rosy rootworm, the largest species, found in the Interior Crater of Faon.

Blind and nearly colorless, groundsnakes feel their way around with elongated tentacles that have migrated to the tip of their nose (although the species pictured here has heavily reduced feelers, and seems to navigate with almost microscopic hairs lining the body). Due to their elusive nature, they are difficult to study and probably far more diverse than we realize. Living under savannas and deserts, they feed on roots and tubies, and only come to the surface to escape the larger and more voracious Mole-Worms that share their habitat.

Sea Serpents:

Pictured: the Kanese serpent, the most abundant species, found around the Kana islands.

Having completely lost their limbs and taken to the water, sea serpents are found in tropical oceans but never venture too far from land. They spend their days in the sea feeding on paddle-snakes and Icthyomorphs, but return to shore at night to rest. Although they will hiss and ferociously snap their beaks when approached, they are relatively harmless and prefer to flee rather than fight. There is an abundance of them on the islands of Kana.

going to complete this for my 3 active dnd characters, serisínthe, miré, and varin. to iron things out/illustrate their differences in my head in a fun way. these looked fun so please enjoy & i look forward to seeing any you guys do! :flushed:

Animal

Serisínthe: white tailed deer. antlers and eyes caught in headlights. frail/delicate/in death, a dressed up carcass Miré: portland sheep. huge curling horns, fluffy in every sense. social, curious, exploratory Varin: cottonmouth river snake! uhh you know serpents. coiled up and all. odd eyes. not typically aggressive unless provoked

Colors

Serisínthe: valentine's day palette... off-white, deep red pink Miré: foresty pale green, soft brown and lavender Varin: light charcoal, luminous blues and indigo purples

Month

Serisínthe: february! the shortest and least predictable month. it's got holiday chocolates in there. everything ends too soon but it's so cherished you know Miré: may! just after the showers of april, the grounds and grasses are wet against your boots and you're just kind of looking forward with the brisk air Varin: november. something weird and dreamlike about the crest before the end of the year, it's cold and kind of scary because something's almost over, but it's starting again.

Miré: the floor of the detyrwood, in its deepest corners of lush green and whispering wingbeats. in the canopy of the trees or under the open sky, camping in an open field of wildflowers. Varin: in an abandoned apartment behind dilapidated wooden planks covered in ash, by the river's edge, hands washing off in the water. with his back to a wall covered and i do mean COVERED in bones, by stone pillars, eerie sterility and marble.

Serisínthe: i can't tell if this is asking what she would eat or what i associate her with. i think both? i'll try both. SO, STRONG flavors! like very spicy meats or coffee flavored deserts. seri can't taste very well so it's got to be intense. Miré: anything and everything but a forager at heart. nuts, berries, mushies, herbs, the best broth you've ever had in your life. like short ribs or something Varin: odds and ends, sort of scavenging. tough foods, dry things, cured meats. plain pastas, probably a huge noodle guy. might actually be obsessed with different shapes of noodles
